I surpress a sigh, intent on not letting Michael ruin this night for me. When the news of Isabel dating Kyle can't bring me to tears, than one Guerin can't do that either.
"See Liz, even he's agreeing with me." I tell her, ignoring Michael. "So, whenever you feel like having a drink - you know what to take."
I just wonder why Michael chickened out from his earlier statement. From what I've seen so far, he gives a damn about what others think.

I wrinkle my nose at Alex’s suggestion of a Tom Collins because eww its so gross.
“We should have some champagne.” I state, “This is a celebration after all.”
This time its Alex’s turn to wrinkle his nose in disgust and I roll my eyes as he says, “That stuff tastes foul,”
I somehow doubt that Alex has ever drunk the real expensive champagne that has graced the tables of many of my father’s dinner parties. In my experience, its only the cheap champagne, which tastes like cat pee since its just sparkling white wine and the Champagne Dom Perignon, which I intend on ordering as soon as the waiter returns is neither cheap or disgusting tasting. "Dom Perignon is delicious, thank you very much!"

"She doesn't have to have alcohol at all if she doesn't want it," I say, repeating Alex's earlier assurances. "She's allowed it now, but it's not required."
I take a glance at Liz's dad, wondering if they'd have something to add to this conversation. Then say to Liz, "Maybe you've had something at home that you like?"

"Dom Perignon is delicious, thank you very much!"
"Well, then you can gladly have my share of it too." I say. Not that I can drink anything with alcohol since I'm driving. At least she didn't talk about Crystal ... or do only *cool* rappers drink the Crystal .. or, God beware, can't Isabel afford that expensive stuff. No, she probably can.
But it doesn't sound good for the future when Isabel's a champagne girl and I'm more a Tom Collins guy. Hmmm ... beer won't really be her thing either.
"Any other cocktail that would suit you better than a T.C.?" I ask her. T.C. isn't the only cocktail I like, so there is still hope.
KYLE
Champagne? Oh please not. Just a cool beer would be awesome. In a champagne flute if it has to be but ... beer! And isn't that Dom Peri... stuff expensive? I can't image the Parkers wanting to pay so much for champagen for each of us. Or do we have to pay?
"I'd really be content about beer." I state, kinda interrupting Alex's and Isabel's talk but ... oh well. "What about you?" I ask Tess then.

I roll my eyes at Kyle’s input into the conversation before ignoring it completely. I’m just so glad that Alex is talking to me, I mean not that he wasn’t talking to me before, it was just a little weird. I can’t explain so I’m not going to even try.
Hmm, what cocktails do I like? “Mango Margaritas are awesome, Tequila sunrise is another awesome cocktail. Oh and Tequila Mockingbird is just a classic,” I say, deciding to stop my list at three cocktails otherwise I’ll end up sounding like a raving alcoholic. “I’m kinda a Tequila sort of girl,” I state when I realize that all the cocktails I’ve mentioned involve Tequila.

I nod when Isabel is finished, knowing all the drinks she mentioned. "Okay, I prefer strawberry taste more to mang but I guess I can deal. Hm, might be better to not challenge you to a tequilla shots contest tough since I rarely drink Tequilla." I finish with a laugh.
"So, since you mentioned the champagne earlier," I continue with a laugh, "is that something you'd recommend for a date? That I order it for the woman?"
Maybe that will get me some plus points with Ashley - a girl that actually wants to go out with me. Okay, it's just a movie and then probably coffee but ... you never know. Maybe there'll be a second and a third date.

“Not the Dom Perignon unless you really like the girl since it cost $194 a bottle. Cristal is also a no go unless you’re P Diddy.” Or Jake, I add silently, remember the way Jake had ordered it on our first date. “But of course, it all depends on the girl and if she actually likes champagne.” I finish with a shrug.
The question is harder to answer then it first seems. Back home, the answer would have been simply. I mean, $300 is just short change for a bottle of champagne but Alex isn’t from back home. He’s from Illinois and I know it sounds stupid but it is like a completely different world from New York.
After thought hits me as I think about Alex’s question. “Why?” I ask, raising an eyebrow. “Have you got a big date lined up?”

I listen to all the alcoholic recommendations flying at Liz at the same time and almost have to shake my head in amusement. What is it about being a young adult (or should I say, American young adult) and having this fascination with a drink whose sole purpose is to lower one's inhibitions and kill off brain cells? I just don't get it.
Kyle interrupts my thoughts to ask me if I'd be content with just a beer. I don't even have to think about my answer. "The only beer I drink is of the 'root' variety," I say with a smile, holding up my glass of still-fizzing root beer. "I'm not the alcohol-drinking type. I've only had some on a few, rare, occasions. What is your favorite kind of beer, Kyle?"

"No, not a big date. A girl from work asked me out to a movie and coffee. There won't be any champagne needed." I laugh. "But who knows, maybe there'll be more than one date." I think about what I said. "I'm not even sure if it qualifies as date. Have to ask Ashley that tomorrow or if it's just a friendly get together between coworkers."
What am I talking? I should make this into the biggest date in history in front of Isabel and I'm being a total wuss talking about it not being a date. Great.
"It will certainly be great no matter what it turns out to be." I finish kinda lamely.

ISABEL
Alex has a date. With Ashley. And it kinda hurts a little that he didn’t tell me sooner. I mean, I thought we were friends and aren’t friends suppose to share things like this?
And who the hell is Ashley? That’s what I would like to know. I think back over the last week, trying to remember if I had met this Ashley during one of my visits to Alex during work. Ashley? Ashley? The name was ringing a bell and…
Oh eww, its that redhead that is always giving me the evil eye whenever I go and talk to Alex. I should have known she was after him, she did after all have that man hunter look in her eyes.
“That’s nice,” I say with a tight smile. I take sip of my wine and try and think about happy thoughts but I can’t get over the fact that Alex didn’t tell me sooner about this whole date thing.
