Chapter 11
Quotes from "Toy House" and "Crazy"
Michael’s Room
February 25th, 2000 – 6:03 A.M.
“Good Morning.” Liz called out, carrying a tray of eggs, bacon, sausage, and Snapple into her parents’ room that had become Michael’s room since he moved in. She told him to redecorate the room and make it his own because she couldn’t bare going inside the room if it looked like her parents were still living there.
“Uhhh. Get out.” Michael whined underneath his pillow. Liz set the tray on the end table and walked to the window to open the shades. “Uhhh. What time is it?”
“Morning, made you some breakfast.” Liz said happily as she set the tray on Michael lap and sat down by his legs.
“Okay, new rule, let’s pretend I’m a vampire instead of an alien…and if you wake me up this early and surprise me with sunlight…I die…are we clear?” Michael warned.
“Mm hmm.” Liz nodded with a smile. “Oh, here. I didn’t know how much you wanted.” Liz said handing Michael a bottle of Tabasco sauce.
“Okay, I know you’re breaking some natural law by being that happy. What’s up?” Michael asked annoyed by her happiness. “What cheesy romantic thing did Max do now that I know I’m gonna get the third degree about later with Maria?”
“Max hasn’t done anything today.” Liz said shaking her head without dropping her smile.
“What, no note? No flowers? No flashes?” Michael asked surprised.
“Nope.”
“Come on, spill it already.” Michael demanded.
“I wanted to thank you because what ever talk you had with him made me the happiest girl I know.”
“Yeah, don’t mention it…really…stop mentioning it because Maria keeps barking at me about it. She wants more romance.”
“Well can you blame her?”
“Don’t start it.” Michael warned, not needing to hear a lecture from her as well. “Why don’t you tell me the real reason why you’re here?”
“Okay, but you can’t tell anyone…especially not Max.”
“Sorry, kiddo. Can’t make that promise. Max’s the King.”
“We’ll if Max the King, what do you think that makes me?” Liz asks wickedly.
“Uh, an evil blackmailer.” Michael responded without thinking.
“I’m really offended. I would be an evil blackmailer if I told you that I will tell Maria that you referred to her as a dog and that you canceled “date night” so you could go watch a hockey game.” Liz threatened.
“Hey, those were extenuating circumstances.”
“Yeah, I’m sure Maria will understand.”
“Fine, I won’t tell, but for the record, I don’t appreciate being the blackmailed.” Michael states.
“Noted. Now come one.” Liz said hitting his leg and waiting for him outside of his room.
Liz’s Room
“What is it?”
“That.” Liz said pointing to her melted radio.
“Did you?” Michael asked stunned.
“Mm hmm.”
“We have to tell Max. You got your powers, what, two years before you were supposed to.” Michael said surprised. “How?”
“Well, last night I had a dream…sort of a nightmare…about Tess…and that’s when that happened.” She said pointing to her radio. “I tried to come up with a reason why this was happening and I could only come up with one…when I got my powers in the future, I got them when I was feeling all this tension and hatred towards Tess and Max being together…”
“But they’re not…she’s not even here.” Michael stated.
“Not now, but she will be in like, what? A week? How would you feel if you knew Billy Darden was coming in a week?” Liz asked seeing Michael’s eyes flicker and then a vase Liz had on her dresser shatter.
“I’ll fix it later.” Michael mumbled apologetically, getting an understanding nod from Liz.
“See. That’s how I feel. I guess when Max gave me my future memories, all those emotions I was feeling subconsciously activated my powers.”
“Okay, you’ve been watching Power Rangers too much. We don’t activate our powers…we don’t have magic rings or a secret layer.”
“So, what’s the pod chamber?” Liz commented but saw Michael was losing his patience. “Okay, I’m sorry. Just…I need you to help me get them in control before Max finds out.”
“Well, my services and dignity don’t come cheap.” Michael explained.
“Oh, uh, how about $50?”
“$50 and the place next weekend.” Michael added to his negotiations.
“Deal.”
“Alright, so now that that’s over…I’m going back to sleep.”
The Crashdown
“Hey.” Max greets her with a kiss on the top of her head and then notices she was about to leave. “New home delivery service?”
“Huh, oh, no. I heard Kyle got hurt the other day playing basketball.” Liz informed him as she gripped on to the pie she had in his hand. “I feel bad because I tried to talk to him before the game…you know to fix things…and I guess I distracted him.” Liz confessed.
“I know the feeling.” Max said in a flirtatious tone as he cupped her cheeks. “You’re really warm.”
“Yeah, I think I’m getting the flu…remember I was suppose to get the flu before the…you know…the camping trip.” Liz said sadly knowing she wouldn’t be able to go anymore since her parents were gone. Max gave a faint smile to signal that he knew what she was feeling and then heard the order bell being rung, reminding him of Michael.
“Have you seen Michael?” Max asked trying to look through the order window from where he was standing. “I feel like he’s avoiding me.”
“Um, uh uh.” Liz nodded frantically, knowing exactly why Michael had been avoiding him and then heard the bells of the restaurant door jingle and saw Kyle hopping in on crutches. “I’m gonna…”
“Go ahead.” Max said before heading out the door.
“Hi.” Liz greeted.
“Hi.” Kyle answered.
“I was just about to go see you.”
“You were? Why?” Kyle questioned as he sat down in a booth.
“Well, I heard what happened and I wanted to bring you some pie and study notes from Ethics.” Liz answered as she sat across from him, pushing the notes and pie to him.
“It's guilt, isn't it?” Kyle asked. Liz just looked at him confused. “The pie, the study notes. It's guilt. You feel responsible for my ankle.”
“No, Kyle, I don't feel...I don't feel responsible for your ankle.” Liz quickly denied his alligations even though that's exactly how she felt.
“I just found out that I'm gonna miss the rest of the season.” Kyle informed her with a depressed expression.
“Kyle...I'm sorry, Kyle. I, I...” Liz stammered not knowing what to say.
“Ooh.” Kyle announced pointing out Liz’s obvious guilt.
“I admit it, ok? You know…I feel a little bit responsible. I shouldn’t have stressed you with what was going on before your game…you probably had a lot on your mind. Look, Kyle, I know what it feels like to have somebody, like, break up with you, and I just...I just wanted to say that I'm...I'm really sorry, you know, about how all of it ended and everything, and I am...incredibly sorry about you missing the rest of the season.” Liz apologized feeling even more guilty as she apologized.
“I'm only gonna be out two weeks. I just said that to prove a point. Anyway, about...what happened with us...I just wanted to say, you...you were pretty straight with me and I wa acting like a possessive jerk. And you...you told me it was over, and...and...and I, I didn't listen. I didn't let it go." Kyle declared.
“Is, um, excuse me? Are you apologizing to me?” Liz asked with a smile plastered on her face.
“I guess.”
“Wow. I...you know, I wasn't aware that this was part of your repertoire.“
“I didn't either.” Kyle replied with a small chuckle of disbelief.
“So, then, what changed?”
“I don't know. I, I was, like...I was just laying there for like 2 days, and it gave me some time to think. And then there was this whole thing on Sally Jessie. You know, "ex-es on a rampage," and it just...it gave me some perspective, so...but anyway, I just...I think it would be great if...you know, if we could, you know, maybe we could be friends.”
“Well, it...um...sure. We could...you know, we could work towards that.” Liz replied with a grin.
“So...anyway, about, uh, about lunch...I was hoping for something high in both fat and cholesterol and lacking in any inherent nutritional value.”
“I think that you are just in luck. Let me show you. Right here on the menu us our fatty section. This right here, there's, like, 4 pounds of sugar...”
Liz’s Room
March 2nd.
There are days when everything seems wrong, when little things just irk you for no good reason. And then there are days like today when the whole world just sings to you from the minute you open your eyes in the morning, till the minute you shut them again at night. Last night, Max took me to “Senior Chow’s”. He’s so romantic. He altered our fortune cookie of course to the fortune’s our future selves had, which made it even more romantic. I find myself wondering how someone can want us to be apart…if they could only see how happy we make each other…but I guess that doesn’t apply to inhuman people like Tess and Naseado. Tomorrow’s the big day. I wonder how it will go?
West Roswell High
March 3rd, 2000 - 5th Period
“Anything?” Maria asked waiting for Liz by her locker.
“Nope. Nothing.” Liz said shaking her head as they walked to a study area. Liz lies down on Maria’s lap and Maria starts twirling Liz’s hair. “I so don’t want to be here today...but I’m kind of glad that it’s a Friday.”
“Why are you here? If I were you, I’d go find Max and tell him to take you home. There’s Casanova right now.” Maria announced spotting Max and Michael walking towards them. Michael came up to Maria and kissed her on her forehead as Max did to Liz.
“Hi.” Liz greeted in a sad voice.
“Still not feeling better?” Max asked concerned.
“Not now, Moon Doggie. You have all weekend to play Doctor.” Maria teased, knowing that Liz was staying over Max’s house for the weekend with the cover of her and Isabel in the works of some big school project, while she and Michael had the house to themselves, she still questioned what made it possible and made a mental note to find out later on.
“Hey, sorry we’re late.” Isabel announced, walking up to them with Alex.
“So how are we doing this?” Alex asked.
“We meet for lunch 6th period and then go back to my house after school.” Max says going over the plan.
“Wait, I have to get my stuff.” Liz announced as she sat up.
“Well, I can take you to your house to get your things, I won’t be doing anything tonight.” Alex offered.
“That’d be great.” Liz said and then they all heard the bell ring to start 5th period.
Lunch Room – 6th period
“What’s the matter?” Alex asked Isabel, noticing she was really nervous.
“Nothing, it’s just…it’s hard to concentrate with all the face-sucking going around.” Isabel commented in disgust as she pointed out Max and Liz and Michael and Maria who were all cuddly with each other. “We’re still going star gazing right?”
“Uh, yeah. Got a spot picked out that’s perfect in Frasier Woods.” Alex informed her.
“Frasier Woods, huh?” Isabel questioned playfully seeing Alex blush as he attempted to explain.
“Can I join you?” A small voice asked. “If you're busy, I could...”
“No. Have a seat. Join us. Sit down.” Isabel directed anxiously.
“Thanks. I'm Tess.”
