Chapter 11

Post by lizard_queen »

Hey everyone out there in Roswell Land!

:smilecolros:

Thanks for all of your reply's, and i know that Kyle seems to be in a bad place at the moment, but it should get betetr, i hope! :P
I'm glad you liked the dream. The Sugarcult song was the inspiration for it, which ironicly, i'm listening to right now as i type this! :D

Anyway, i have atleast 15 pages of history to do so instead, i decided to post this chapter. If you havn't noticed, i'm trying to postpone doing my homework as much as possible.

Also, as i said before, i live in Australia, so i don't know how long it takes to get from Roswell to Phoenix, so please don't hurt me for assuming that it takes longer than it does... please?

I hope you like it...

Enjoy

Chapter 11

Michael woke with a start, as the pounding on his door got louder. He rubbed his eyes with his hand and let out a sleepy sigh. He stumbled out of bed, tripping over a shoe he had thrown off the night before. He slowly walked through the lounge room; a large yawn escaping his mouth as he once again rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up.

“Alright…alright… I’m coming!”

The pounding on the door ceased, and instead a large red glow from the keyhole illuminated the room for a brief second before returning back to darkness. He stopped and extending his arm, his palm vertical to the wall, ready to fire at any intruder who was also an alien. The door slowly opened and he heard the mumbling of a familiar voice.

“Why do we need Michael?”

“So he can punch you while I’m driving!”

He forced his hand down to his side as the two figures walked through the door. Max had a stern look on his face, which automatically told Michael that this was not a social call. His hands were wrapped around Kyle’s arm, his knuckled white from the pressure of his grip. Michael gave a slight nod to the two people who had disturbed his precious sleep and another large yawn, placing a hand over his mouth.

“Maxwell…Valenti… What’s going on?”

Max’s eyes gleamed with anger as he looked right at the sleepwalker in front of him.

“We’re going to Phoenix! Get your things!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She rolled over in bed, her eyes fluttering open slightly so she could get a glimpse of her surroundings. The sheets clung to her overheated body as she sat up, feeling the dizziness invoke her. Liz’s feet trembled as she placed them on the hard, cool ground. She wiped away the sweat that was forming on her forehead as she felt the cool floor under her toes.

Her temperature was a lot higher than normal, and everything she touched felt as though it was on fire, the heat burning her skin when she came into contact with the object. Her vision was blurry as she slid off the bed, collapsing on the ground below her. The coolness swept through her body, easing the pain the slightest bit. She clung to the floor, rolling around so it touched all of her skin.

The room suddenly became icy and she started to shake, her body immediately going numb from the sudden change in temperature. Liz crawled back over to where her bed was, pulling the sheets off and covering herself in them, trying to get feeling back in her arms and legs.

Tears streamed down her face as she whimpered, desperately needing help, but having no one to help her. She crawled further under the blankets until they blocked out the dim light of her room, her tears wetting the fabric surrounding her as she cried his name…

“Max…”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Why am I here? I already told you all that I know!”

“Maxwell, he has a point! Why is he still here?”

“He’s here so if I find out he’s lying, I don’t have to wait until I get back to Roswell to beat the crap out of him again!” Max turned his attention back to the road, feeling Kyle’s uneasiness as he sat behind him staring out into the vast desert.

“We’ve been driving for two and a half days! Believe me, if he’s lying you won’t have the chance to beat the crap out of him because I would have already started!”

Kyle could tell by their tone that they were serious, yet he couldn’t help but wonder why they chose physical violence if they could blast him into orbit with one point of their fingers. His hand clutched a raw steak to his eyes, too afraid to ask if Max could heal it for him. He mumbled something under his breath, hoping that they hadn’t heard.

“Nice to feel wanted!”

Max’s phone started to vibrate on the dashboard. He glanced at it, before turning his eyes back to the vast desert road in front of him. He didn’t have to read the number, he automatically knew who was calling him. Michael picked it up and stared at the number, throwing a questioning glance in Max’s direction.

“Aren’t you going to answer it?”

“It’s Tess…”

“Oh, right well… How many’s that in the last hour? Four times she’s called?”

“Something like that!”

A city was visible in the distance, a cloud of dust surrounding it as it emerged from the horizon. Kyle sat forward, leaning against the seat in front of him, knowing that they were almost there and contemplating who he should be more afraid of… Max and Michael when he tells them that he doesn’t know where exactly she lives; or Liz when they do find her and she discovers that Kyle broke his promise.

“Where to now Valenti?”

Kyle’s gaze was torn away from the city appearing in front of him and drawn back to where Michael was staring at him. Here goes nothing…

“I… uh… I don’t exactly know where she lives!”

“What was that?”

“All she told me was that she lives across from a small shopping mall… nothing else except that it was in a dingy sort of neighbourhood!”

Michael turned back to face Max, his fury flowing into his veins, making his face turn bright red. Oddly enough, Max seemed extremely calm. He was staring ahead of him, concentrating on the road in front.

“Maxwell… didn’t you just here Kyle… He doesn’t know where she is!”

“I do…”

“What?” Michaels was clearly freaked out by this information. He raised his eyebrows in a suspicious manner and stared at the alien on the seat next to him. Max tore his concentration away from the road and looked directly into Michael’s eyes.

“I can feel her!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liz walked down the corridor to her apartment. The bags of groceries banged against her legs as she walked, causing her to stumble a few times. It was weird, the sickness. This morning she thought she was going to die because she was in such a bad condition, but in the last few hours she had suddenly gotten better. She almost felt healthy now, except for the odd sniffle or cough.

She felt so much better that when she went to fridge earlier thinking that she might actually be able to digest something and keep it down, she realized that it was empty.

Liz rested the bags in front of the door whilst she searched through her pockets for her key. She felt the alien key ring and pulled it out of the pocket. Her hand brushed against the door and it moved open slightly, leaving a small crack to peer through. Her clothes were strewn everywhere and her suitcase was lying open on the floor. The table was kicked over and her only chair was somewhere over the other side of the room.

She pushed open the door further to get a better look. It almost looked as bad as the first day she had seen it, except it no longer had the smell. Slowly, she took a small step inside the room, her eyes flittering around the room, looking at the damage.

"Hello? Is any one in here?

A hand grabbed her from behind and flung her across the room. She fell hard onto the ground, the figure coming closer to her with fast pace. As an automatic reaction, she screamed, her voice ringing through the room and out into the corridor. A hand collided with her face, throwing her head to the side as she whimpered from the pain…

Sorry it's so short. :?

Chapter 12

The man grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her upwards. He had a balaclava over his face so she couldn’t see what he looked like. The only things visible were his lips and eyes. He threw her against the wall, pinning her in place with her arms above her head. His knees clenched her legs together so she couldn’t kick. His eyes were grey and cold as he looked at her, his face inches from her own. Her bottom lip was shaking from fright as he put pressure on her wrists, pushing her further into the wall.

“Please… please don’t… don’t hurt me!”

Her voice trembled as she spoke, causing a menacing smile to cross his lips. His voice came out cold and harsh, striking right through her heart.

“No… I wouldn’t dream of hurting you… at least until we’re done!”

Liz’s eyes opened wide at the comprehension of what he meant. His lips forcefully joined hers, his tongue thrusting into her mouth. Her screams were muffled by his mouth forcing down on hers. He held her arms above her head with one hand now, the other hand moving down to her chest, where he ripped her shirt apart. His hand then moved down between her thighs, prying them open with such strength it made her scream even louder. His hand moved down her crotch as he groped her, the only thing between her and his dirty fingers being the thin material of her underwear.

His mouth left hers and went down to her open chest. He bit down on the skin of her left breast just to hear her screams get even louder. His disgusting tongue licked her flesh, sending shivers up and down her spine as she continued to scream. He lifted his mouth so it was inches from her breast and yelled at her in a cold, stern voice.

“Who the fuck are you screaming to? No one will come and help you! The only people who live in this building are geriatrics and drunks! Now shut the fuck up and enjoy yourself!”

“Someone! Help me! Please! Help me!”

Her cries of help got even louder as she screamed with everything she had, desperately needing someone to help her, but knowing it was useless. He pushed her further into the wall, trying to make her stop screaming but failing miserably. Instead, he grabbed her left hand and put it on his crotch as he pulled down the zipper on his filthy jeans. He forced her hand around his dick, guiding it up and down his shaft with his own. He moaned into her, thrusting his hips up against hers as he pinned up against the wall.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as he forced her to commit the act, her screams echoing throughout the room, not to be heard from anywhere out side these four walls.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max pulled the Jeep to a stop outside a sordid looking apartment block. He pulled the key out of the ignition and sat back, letting out a deep sigh as he ran his hands through his hair.

“Which room?” Michael stared up at the building in front of him. He knew Liz, maybe not as well as Max, but he knew that she would have to have been in trouble if this was all she could afford in the way of living space.

“I don’t know… But I know she’s here! I can feel her…”

“And look…” Kyle pointed across the road to a small shopping plaza, consisting of a bread shop, newsagents, butcher and pawnshop. “… I wasn’t lying about the shops either!”

Michael got out of the car and walked around to stand in front of the building, staring upwards at the tiny windows, the only clue that there was in fact something inside the brick frame.

“So, are we just gonna keep on going up until you feel her, or what?”

“I don’t know…”

“We could knock on every door, but I doubt that we would get many happy replies!”

“Looks like we’re going up then…”

Max started on the staircase, only taking every second step as he anxiously walked. Michael and Kyle followed behind, trying to avoid touching anything unless they were wearing sterile clothing and gloves. Michael stopped dead in his tracks as a sound reached his ears.

“Maxwell…”

Max stopped and turned to look at the boy just a few steps behind him.

“Do you hear that?”

Max concentrated on trying to find what Michael was listening to. His ears soon picked up a high pitch scream coming from a hallway two flights up. Kyle stood back, listening to the painful screams before realizing who they belonged to.

“Max, isn’t that…”

“…Liz!”

He bolted up that staircase, Michael and Kyle trailing hot on his heels. Her screams were getting louder as they ran down a corridor. He ran with everything he had, heading towards the scream that he immediately recognized.

He screeched to a stop in front of a bag of groceries and flung open the door, gasping at the sight he saw.

Liz was pinned up against a wall by a man dressed in dirty jeans, a black shirt and a balaclava. She was screaming as tears ran down her red cheeks, whilst the man thrusted into her hand he held around his crotch.

Max extended his arm, ready to choke the life out of the rapist. A bright light came out of his hand, filling the confined space breifly before vanishing. The man flew across the room, landing hard against a refrigerator and falling to the floor. Liz slid down the wall and landed on the ground, her eyes full of fear as she cried.

Michael and Kyle ran over to the unconscious man on the floor whilst Max bolted straight for Liz. He skidded to a stop in front of her and dropped onto his knees. As if a reflex, his arms tightly went around her waist and he brought her closer to his chest. He entire body was shaking violently as he ran a comforting hand through her hair. Her tears penetrated the shirt he was wearing, a large wet patch sticking against his skin as he held her tighter, rocking her back and forward on his lap.

Her voice was shaky as she spoke, all of her pain and fear from the last month exploding into tears as soon as he touched her.

“M...m …Max?"

Breaking Benjamin - So Cold

Crowded streets are cleared away
One by one
Hollow heroes separate
As they run
You're so cold
Keep your hand in mine
Wise men wonder while
strong men die

Show me how we end this all right
Show me how defenseless you really are
Satisfied and empty inside
Well that's alright
Let's give this another try

If you find your family
Don't you cry
In this land of make believe
Dead and dry
You're so cold
but you feel alive
Lay your hand on me
One last time

It's Alright

Chapter 13 ~ Soooo Bored! :(

Post by lizard_queen »

:P First of all, lets give a giant applause for Fanatics being back up and running! Yay!

:D *applause* :D

Wow, these colours are fun!

Now that i have that over with.... i wrote this chapter ages ago, and i really couldn't be bothered actually dealing with the rapeist dude at the time, and i still can't be bothered, so thats why Liz decided to do what she does... if that makes any sense???

Maybe it will make more sense after the next chapter... but just because i feel like being a poo, i'm gonna keep you confused for a while.... he he! :P

Chapter 13

Tess angrily threw the phone across the room. They had been gone two days, neither of them even bothering to ring and tell her where they were. She had to congratulate Kyle though. He kept her away from Max; he never gave in and told him where she was… until now.

She disgustedly shook her head at the thought of what they were probably doing right now. It amazed her that one minute he could be making out with her, and as soon as someone mentions her name, he was off in the clouds. She mocked him in a squeaky voice, her sarcasm flowing off her in waves, mixed in with anger and jealously.

“Oh my beautiful Liz! Why can’t you love me? I’m just a stupid lovesick bastard whose knees go weak at the first sight of a human! I don’t care about my destiny; I want to be with you! But you don’t want to be with me, so I’m going to walk around acting all depressed and vulnerable so hopefully you’ll notice me and give me head!”

She just didn’t understand what Liz had that she didn’t? Tess was practically throwing herself at him, whilst Liz was ignoring him, trying to go on with her life by running away, and he still chose her. It made no sense! Tess was made for him, literally, but all he could do was pine over her.

It made Tess sick to witness such human behaviour. They weren’t human! They were Antarian, with a little splash of human so they could survive on earth. She now understood why Nasedo always taught her to block out her human emotions, they made you weak. One look at Max was all she needed to figure this out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liz clung onto his shirt for dear life, not wanting to let him go in fear that he wasn’t really there, and that if she did remove her death grip, he would fade and she would be back in her apartment with the man trying to rape her.

Max softly stroked his fingers through her once silky soft hair. It wasn’t just comforting for her, but for him aswell. Her small whimpers into his chest brought tears to his eyes as he held her tighter to his chest, never wanting to let her go again.

Liz sat on his lap, clinging on tightly as they rode in silence. Michael drove the Jeep down a long dusty road before pulling it to a stop in front of a small motel. Kyle and him hopped out of the front seats and went to get two rooms, one for them, and one for Max and Liz. They both knew that they wouldn’t want to be apart tonight.

Liz shivered from the cold when they stopped. Max pulled his head back from its position resting on her head and he lifted her head up so she was looking into his eyes.

“Wh… where are we?”

“Motel… we thought it would be better than your place, considering the mess it was in.”

“Oh…”

Liz sat up, slowly releasing her grip on his shirt. She pulled her arms tightly around her, still shivering from the cold desert air. Max reached over and picked up his leather jacket. He gently placed it around her trembling shoulders, not wanting her to get sick. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying and she looked in desperate need of a shower, some food and then sleep.

“Thanks…”

Kyle walked back towards the Jeep, avoiding making eye contact with Liz, afraid that he wouldn’t be able to take her deathly stares. He handed a key to Max and picked up his backpack from the seat next to Liz.

“Michael and I are in room 11A, you two are in 10C…”

“Thanks Kyle…” He watched as Kyle walked over towards the stairs that led up to the second story of the building. Max looked back at Liz who was sitting awkwardly on his lap, pulling his jacket closer around her body as she shivered from the cold.

“We should probably get you warm…”

“Yeah…”

She slowly stood up and climbed out of the car, still not really sure about what had happened in the last three hours. Max climbed out after her, pulling two backpacks out after him. He held them both in the one hand and placed his other on the small of her back, gently guiding her towards their room.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Hello?”

Michael smiled at the sound of the sleepy voice on the other end of the line. His voice was soft and full of sympathy for the girl who was just waking up.

“Hey…”

“Michael?” Maria suddenly sounded wide-awake. She sat up in her bed and pulled the covers around her cold body. “Where are you?”

“Phoenix… We arrived about 7pm.”

“Oh…” He knew the question that she wanted to ask, but he also knew that she wouldn’t. She was too afraid to show any sign that she cared about Liz or where she was, in fear of getting hurt again if she did. He answered her silent question, hearing the relief in her voice when he spoke.

“We found Liz!” He paused for a moment, listening to the small sigh that had escaped her lips as he told her. “She’s in a bad way Maria!”

“What do you mean?” She tried not to sound to eager to hear the answer, trying to sound like she didn’t care, but they both knew that it wasn’t true.

“When we found her, she… she was… about to be raped!”

Maria gasped, quickly putting her hand over her mouth to muffle the sound. She pulled the blankets closer around her, her heart beating faster in fear of what had happened.

“W…wh… what?”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hot water pounded on her bare skin, massaging her aching body as she slowly turned around, feeling the warmth fill her entire being. She yelped when the water hit a particular spot, jumping over to the corner of the shower, escaping the water stream. Looking down at her breast, she saw the teeth marks that the man had embedded there. Small drops of blood washed over her skin as she gently massaged it with the soap, trying to clean away any traces of the man.

She had a giant bruise forming across her back from where he had slammed her into the wall. Her face stung as a mark formed over her cheek from where he had hit her, and her wrists were bloodied and beaten from the forced her had held them with. She squinted when she moved, feeling the pain in between her legs when they brushed up against each other. Her thighs were red and badly bruised from where she had been assaulted, forcing her to give him pleasure as she screamed for her life.

Liz leant against the wall, slowly sliding down the wet surface until she was sitting on the floor. She pulled her legs up close to her chest, holding them steady at her ankles as the water softly hit her naked form. She sobbed softly to herself, sick of crying, sick of being weak, sick of being herself…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max leant back against the pillow, his hands behind his head as he stared up at the plain white ceiling, recalling the events of earlier, after they had just found Liz.

Her voice was shaky as she spoke, all of her pain and fear from the last month exploding into tears as soon as he touched her.

“M…m…Max?”

He breathed in her scent, nuzzling his face in her hair as tears welled up in the corner of his eyes.

“Shh… it’s okay! I’m here now! You’re okay!”

Michael and Kyle stood over the body of the man, lying face down on the floor. Kyle quietly kicked his side with his foot, putting in all of the effort he had to harm the man just as he had harmed Liz.

“He’s unconscious! Man Maxwell, that was one hell of a blast! He’s out cold!”

Max slowly turned his gaze away from Liz’s weary face, and he focused on Michael and Kyle standing over the man. Kyle turned to look at the two huddled together on the floor, neither ever wanting to let go of the other again.

“What do we do with him?”

“I don’t know!”

“What do you mean you don’t know? Call the fucking police!” Kyle stepped towards Max angrily, but stopped as soon as he saw Liz flinch in his arms, trying to hide more by just about sitting on top of him. Max stroked her hair soothingly, feeling her relax a tiny bit. He turned his head so he was facing Kyle, and spoke in a soft tone, so to not scare the frail bundle in his arms.

“Fine, call the police! Do what you want to Kyle, but I don’t want Liz staying here tonight!”

“So take her home! Take her back to Roswell like you planed to do in the first place!”

“If we call the police, we can’t!”

“Why not?”

“Because, the police will want to question her you dingbat!” Michael looked up from the body lying on the floor. “If we call the police, they’ll want to question Liz about what happened here tonight, and they won’t let us take her home until he’s gone to jail! And there’s no guarantee that he will go to jail!”

“He tried to rape her! He should burn in hell!”

“Kyle, just look at her! Do you think she’s in any position to try and explain to the police what he did to her?”

“STOP SHOUTING!” Everyone turned their heads to where the girl was huddled up against Max’s chest. She was shaking all over and her face was all bunched up in an angry scowl. She nuzzled her head into his shoulder, taking a deep breath before speaking again, her voice soft and frail. “Please… stop shouting!”

Max sat up as he heard the bathroom door open. Quietly, she stepped into the main room, holding her arms tightly across her chest, trying to shield herself from the outside world. She slowly walked over to the bed and sat down at the far end, avoiding looking Max in the eyes.

He stood up, slowly taking a step towards her, afraid that she would run if he got too close. Her wet hair draped around her face, coving her bruises and cuts, and her dark eyes. She held onto the white robe tightly, trying to cover all of herself from anyone’s prying eyes. Max gently sat down next to her, close enough for her to feel safe, but far enough away so she didn’t feel crowded.

He ran his fingers through her wet hair, feeling them immediately dry with his touch. His hand emitted a small blue glow as the water evaporated, leaving her hair silky and clean, just like before.

“Thank you…”

Her voice came out as a squeak as she slowly drew her gaze away from the spot on the floor she had found so fascinating. Her eyes locked with his and a small smile crept across her face. To the observer it would look as though nothing had changed in her facial expressions, but Max could just see the edge of her mouth lifting upwards, before it was gone. “… for everything you did… thank you!”

Max gently brushed her cheek with the back of his hand, feeling her silky smooth skin against his. He slowly nodded his head, understanding the full meaning behind her words. He stumbled in his words, unsure of how to ask her if it was all right if he could sleep next to her, just holding her in his arms, feeling the warmth that radiated off her body.

“Do… do you want to sleep? You look really tired!”

“Um… if it’s okay with you, could I just watch some TV?”

“Sure…” They both sat back against the pillows, positioning themselves so they could see the television on the table at the end of the bed.

Liz’s eyelids grew heavy as she stared at the glowing box, projecting the light from the images appearing on the screen around the room. Somehow during the last half hour, she had managed to mauver herself so her head lay on Max’s chest, using it as a pillow, and his arm had somehow become wrapped around her waist, holding her tightly against his body.

She slowly closed her eyes, giving in to the temptation that was sleep, feeling safe and warm in his arms, something that she hadn’t felt for a long time.

Chapter 14

Post by lizard_queen »

Howdidly Doodly ppl. The song at the end of this is by a really good Australian band... and i put this song in here because of Liz's dreams that are haunting her...so yeah...
Also, incase you haven't noticed yet, i'm not really good at writing violence, so sorry.
enjoy:

Chapter 14

Without breaking the kiss, he backed her into the wall, standing so close that no air could pass between their bodies. Her fingers played with the short bits of dark hair on the back of his neck as their tongues duelled, exploring each others mouth. His hands roamed all over her body, tracing every contour, every crevice, until he knew the map off by heart. His hand went down the outside of her thigh, curving around the back of her leg to cup her ass.

He gently pulled her wavering legs off the ground and she wrapped them around his waist. He held her tightly against his body, relying on the wall behind her to hold them steady.

His lips left her mouth and trailed down her jaw and onto her neck, sucking gently on her skin as she moaned, loving the sensation he was giving her. She lifted his mouth back up to hers, looking into his amber coloured eyes before devouring him.

“Max…”

She moaned his name into his mouth before breaking away, gasping at the need of oxygen. His lips once again followed a trail down her jaw and neck, this time not stopping till he reached the top of her breast. She arched into his touch, feeling him gently nibble at her skin.

She suddenly screamed as he bit her, this time drawing blood. She pulled her hand away from the back of his neck when she realised that he was now wearing a balaclava. He lifted his head, licking his lips as he looked up at her. He was no longer Max, he was now a nightmare.

She screamed at the top of her lungs as he wrestled with her, trying to get her to unzip his jeans. He pushed her further into the wall, violently rubbing his groin against the inside of her thigh. She continued to scream, her voice hoarse from the continuous strain. Salty tears trickled down her face as she struggled against the man, knowing that she had no hope. She screamed one last time, her voice echoing throughout the building.

“MAX!!!!!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max woke from a deep sleep as he felt something connect with his groin. He curled up into a ball on the bed and whimpered, holding his crotch with his hand as the pain subsided. He slowly opened his eyes, getting ready to blast Isabel for kicking him, when he noticed that he wasn’t in his room, or his bed. He also noticed the girl lying on the bed next to him, her body jerking around uncontrollably as she kicked at the air, chasing away invisible monsters haunting her dreams. He quickly sat up and leant over her body, shaking her gently on the shoulders as he yelled her name.

“Liz! Liz! Wake up! …Liz! You have to wake up!”

The twisting and thrashing of her body slowly subsided and she let out a small whimper as she opened her eyes. Bright amber eyes full of concern and fear stared back at her, sending a wave of sadness throughout her entire body. Those were the eyes she longed to stare into for all eternity. Those eyes belonged to the person she wanted to wake up next to for the rest of her life. She wanted to touch him, to caress him, to love him, to hear him scream her name all night long, just like in the dreams. But that was all they were… dreams. They were nothing more, and they could never be.

Liz shuddered as she slowly sat up, feeling the coolness against her clammy skin. She pulled the sheet up closer to her body, trying to hide from nightmares that plagued her mind, monsters that lurked in her memory, waiting for their moment.

“Hey?” Liz could swear that there was a hint of fear in his voice, but she shrugged it off, knowing that it was probably just her mind playing tricks on her. “You okay?” He gently stroked her cheek with the back of his hand. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, needing desperately to get lost in a sea of Max Evans, but knowing that it would never happen, it could never happen!

She shakily managed to produce a small nod, knowing that it probably looked like a twitch to Max. He gently pulled her closer for a small hug, burying his face in her soft hair, taking in her scent.

Somehow, Liz managed to drift back off to sleep; her body spooned up against Max’s. Sleep didn’t come as easily for him. He studied her facial expressions whilst she slept silently, watching the way her eyebrows crinkled together every now and then as she dreamed about God knows what.

The dreams. He wondered if she had them aswell, if it was some weird alien connection he had given her when he healed her, or if it was just his horny teenage imagination, which it definitely could have been. He slowly closed his eyes, smiling sheepishly that the last thing he saw was Liz, and she would be the first thing he saw in the morning!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Fuck! What's Max gonna say when he realises that he got away?”

Kyle walked over and stood looking up at the small window, disbelieving that any one could have escaped through such a small space. They had left the man lying unconscious on the ground, not calling the police. Why? He honestly had no idea; he just did what Max told him to do, despite all of the arguments. He knew that Max just wanted to make sure Liz was safe, but he still didn’t see why they hadn’t called the police, it made no sense.

Michael walked over and stood next to Kyle, looking up at the broken window. The glass crunched under his shoes as he walked, deleting the strange silence that filled the room. The man had probably woken up during the night, not remembering what had happened until he realised that they had melted the locks on the doors so he couldn’t escape. Michael didn’t think twice about the window, assuming that the man couldn’t fit through it, but he had been proven wrong.

Max was gonna flip when he broke the news to him.

Michael let out a harsh sigh and then turned back to face the rest of the apartment. It looked like it had been seriously trashed, whether it was before or after the man broke in was unclear, but it really didn’t look too healthy.

“Let’s just get Liz’s things then get out of here! As soon as I get back to Roswell the better!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max opened his eyes, aware of the loud banging coming from the door. He slowly uncoiled Liz from his arms and pulled the blanket up around her, making sure that she was warm before he left her side. He took a moment to study her face, the way she looked so pleasant after everything she had been through, the way she looked so young, so innocent… the way she looked like she wouldn’t hold a dark secret, the same dark secret he had given her. Max tore his eyes away from her and started for the door, millions of thoughts rushing through his head.

If it wasn’t for me, she would still be living a normal life, safe in her home, not running away from it, from me!

But if I didn’t heal her, she would have died!

I could have come up with a cover story… something that didn’t involve putting her in danger!

She’s smart; she would have figured it out eventually!

I could have left, instead of her running away, I could have…

I could have told Tess to leave, I could have told her that Liz and I are meant to be together, and I don’t have any destiny with her…

I did tell Tess that! I did, but she didn’t listen!

His bantering thoughts were interrupted with a loud noise on the other side of the door. The voice was muffled, but it was no mistaking it was Michaels.

“Maxwell! Open this fucking door right now! We have a problem!”

Something For Kate - Monsters

I was hanging upside down from the overpass,
Waiting to discover something about the world.
I couldn't get with the program and I couldn't listen to them
It was like trying to think in reverse.
And i don't want to slide into apathy,
And i don't want to die in captivity,
But these monsters follow me around
Hunting me down,
trying to wipe me out

Wipe me out

I was hiding away under water
Waiting for distance and buying some time
Trying to be two hundred thousand years younger
So I could excuse myself from humankind
'Cause I don't want to be a container
Or a bastard with a ten page disclaimer
But these monsters spin me around
Get me down, just try and shut me out

Shut me out

Hold it in your head
Believe and make believe and make believe

I was hiding away under water
Waiting for distance, waiting for time
And I don't want to slide into apathy
And I don't...
And I don't want to live in captivity

Chapter 15??? I've lost count...

Post by lizard_queen »

Okay ppl, we've come to the end of the finding Liz Parker bit, but never fret... there is still heaps more to come. And i mean HEAPS more. i've written like 20 more chapters after this. Yay! That is, if anyone is still reading this after i'm done!
Thank u 4 ur replys... and it will get better...

Chapter 15

“He got away?” Max raised his eyebrow in Michael’s direction, trying to gather it all in and still remain calm. He took a step outside and closed the door behind him, not wanting to wake up Liz.

“Out the window, yeah!”

“Out the win… he could actually fit?”

“Maxwell, I’m serious!” Michael paced back and forth, absently scratching his eyebrow with the side of his finger.

“So am I! I don’t think even Liz could fit out that window, it’s so small!”

“Yeah well, he managed to fit! I don’t know how, but he did!”

“So… we don’t know where he is?”

“No! My god! What is it with you? Get one glimpse of Liz and all of a sudden you have the IQ of a two year old! Focus Max!”

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, scratching behind his ear before looking up at Michael and putting his hands in his pockets.

“I don’t see why we didn’t just call the police! Maxwell, if that was Maria in there, and she had almost gotten raped, I would have called them straight away! I would want to know that the sick bastard who tried to hurt her was behind bars for the rest of his life!”

“Well actually… you would probably beat him to death before you called the police!”

“That’s not the point! The point is that he’s now out there, and he could do it again to some other girl, or he could be focusing on Liz and he could follow us back to Roswell! It’s too late to go and call the cops now! What’s going on Max? This is not like you! You’re always siding with the law instead of taking things into your own hands! Why didn’t you call the police like I thought you would have?”

His eyes looked at a black dot on the ground in front of him, not wanting to make eye contact with an angry Michael. “She told me not to!”

“What?” The words came out of his mouth like venom, sounding a lot harsher than he intended.

Max lifted his eyes to meet Michaels, the rage building up inside him until he couldn’t hold it any more. “She told me not to Michael! And unlike you, I actually listen when someone I love asks me to do something! While you and Kyle were to busy yelling at each other about calling the police, she told me not to! I didn’t ask why! I didn’t try and make her do something she didn’t want to do! I listened to her!”

“Are you going to listen to her when she says that she doesn’t want to come back to Roswell? I doubt it!”

Kyle opened the door to his room and walked along the balcony, heading in the direction of the yelling. As he walked around the corner, his suspicions were confirmed when he saw that it was Michael and Max.

He strolled over towards the two arguing aliens, scratching behind his neck as he let out a loud yawn.

“Hey guys! Wanna’ keep it down? You might wake up Liz!”

“Too late!”

Her voice was squeaky as she stood in the doorway, her arms crossed over her chest, shivering slightly from the cold. She looked alot better than before, now that Max had healed her and she had gotten a good sleep. How, Max had no idea, but she slept. It might have had something to do with him being there, or it could have just been that she was exhausted. The t-shirt she had was no doubt Max’s as it hung low on her, covering right down to her knees. Her hair was tousled from sleep and hung low around her shoulders and face, clouding her eyes.

Max turned around to find her staring at him with vicious eyes. She gave a small huff and stepped forward, pulling her arms tighter across her chest, trying to make herself feel safer than she really did.

“Were you even going to tell me? Or were you just gonna put me in a car one day and not let me out until we get back to Roswell?”

“Liz… it’s not like that…” Max stumbled with his words, trying to find what to say, but she cut him off before he had the chance.

“Really Max? Tell me what's its like then? I really want to know!” She took a step forward so she was right in his face, her eyes burning a hole through his heart. Liz’s voice went low, so only he could hear as she whispered in his ear. “I can’t believe I trusted you! Why can’t you aliens just fucking leave me alone?”

She ran off before he had the chance to process what she had just said. He watched as she disappeared behind a corner, willing his mind to run after her.

“Liz! Wait…”

Kyle stepped in front of him before he could go anywhere. “Max… let me…”

Max stood dumbfounded as he watched Kyle disappear around the same corner that Liz had moments before. He just wanted her to understand, to see that he just wanted her to come home and be safe… he just needed her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liz collapsed against a brick wall, sliding down until she was sitting in the dirt leaning back, trying to catch her breath. She lifted a shaking hand and wiped away the tears pouring down her cheeks, willing the world around her to just leave her alone.

She heard the sound of shoes hitting the pavement, getting louder as the person got closer. She raised her eyes to look in the face of the intruder and was taken back when she realised that it wasn’t Max.

Kyle sat down next to her, leaning back against the wall as he let out a short sigh. He turned his head towards her and raised one eyebrow, the corner of his mouth going upwards slightly in an apologetic smile.

“You okay?”

“Umm… yeah… fine…”

Silence filled their surroundings, the wind blowing in small puffs as they stared at another wall less than four metres away. Kyle was the first to speak, needing to get this over and done with so he would have a clear conscious later.

“I’m sorry Liz…”

“Sorry for what?”

“For telling them… I didn’t mean to, really… but in my defence they didn’t give me much choice!” His raised his index finger and pointed towards his eye where a black bruise was showing. He could clearly see the sadness in her eyes, the conflicting emotions swirling around in her head, each battling to be expressed.

“You kept your promise Kyle! You only told them after they used force… besides… if you didn’t tell them… I probably wouldn't be alive right now... or a virgin!"

Her eyes returned to the ground as his arm went around her shoulders, pulling her closer to be enveloped into a giant hug. He looked up as a shadow loomed over them. Max stood a few feet away with his hands in his pockets. He looked so pathetic, so lost; Kyle couldn’t help but smile. He whispered in her ear before pulling away.

“I’m just glad your safe!”

A small smile spread over her face as he stood up. He gently patted Max on the shoulder before walking off, leaving them to sort out their own problems.

Max stood sheepishly, biting his bottom lip as he debated whether it was a good idea to disturb her. He watched as she played with her fingers, trying to ignore his presence. He sat down against the wall, leaving a gap between them so he wouldn’t crowd her.

“Liz… I’m sorry…”

She looked up from her hands, fire blazing in her eyes, a clear warning not to piss her off. “What are you going to do Max? Bore me into coming home by using one of your stupid speeches?”

Her words shocked him, leaving an open wound in his heart. He was left speechless for a few minutes before regaining his voice. He knew it sounded stupid before he even said it, but that still didn’t stop him.

“You think I’m boring?”

“You can’t control me Max! You may be able to run the lives of Michael, Isabel and Tess, but you’re not my king so you have no right to tell me what to do!”

“Liz, I never once tried to control you!” Max said as he leaned in closer, trying to argue his point and be closer to her at the same time. It was soothing for him, being in her presence, and he wondered if it was the same for her.

“Yes, you did Max! Just by you coming here proves that!”

“Kyle said that you were sick… I just… I just wanted to make sure you were okay…” He studied the ground in front of him, avoiding her deathly eyes as he tried to voice his feelings.

“Do I look sick Max?”

He looked up and noticed that she had a point… except for the fact that she was a little red she looked normal, healthy, pardoning the marks still left from her assault. “Well no… but you do look a little flushed!”

“That’s because I’m angry! God! Why can’t you people just leave me alone?”

He had no other choice. She may not want to go back because of him, but he knew that she would for her family. “Maria misses you... and your parents miss you…”

His words snapped her attention. She was suddenly filled with a rush of conflicting emotions. Max could see it was working from the expression on her face, and he refused to feel guilty until she was back in Roswell.

“…Your dad even hired a detective to try and find you. He somehow got the impression that you were no longer in the country and that you went to Mexico… I think Kyle had something to do with that!” He paused for a second, seeing the beginning of tears forming in her eyes, knowing that what he was saying was getting to her. “Liz, I know that you won’t come back to Roswell because of me, or because I need you there, but don’t punish your parents for something that I did. They don’t deserve it, they’re good people and they really miss you…”

Liz bit her bottom lip, trying to hold back the tears but failing as she felt the thin drop of water slid down her cheek. The sincerity in his voice was too much and all of her control slipped away when she felt Max’s arm go around her shoulder and pull her closer. She cried into his shirt, her head resting on his chest, taking comfort in how safe she felt in his arms, how safe she had always felt.

Max buried his face in her hair, taking in the deep scent she held that made him forget everything else but her. He fought back his feelings of guilt and pain that she wouldn’t go back for him, and let a feeling of clarity sweep over him as he pulled her closer, knowing that she was coming home, back to Roswell.

Empty Apartment

Call me out
You stayed inside
One you love
Is where you hide
Shot me down as I flew by
Crash and burn
I think sometimes you forget where the heart is

Answer no to these questions
Let her go, learn a lesson
It's not me, you're not listening now
Can't you see something's missing?
You forget where the heart is

Take you away from that empty apartment
You stay and forget where the heart is
Someday if ever you love me you'd say it's okay

Waking up from this nightmare
How's your life, what's it like there?
Is it all what you want it to be?
Does it hurt when you think about me?
And how broken my heart is

Take you away from that empty apartment
You stay and forget where the heart is
Someday if ever you love me you'd say it's okay

It's okay to be angry and never let go
It only gets harder the more that you know
When you get lonely if no one's around
You know that I'll catch you when you're falling down
We came together but you left alone
And I know how it feels to walk out on your own
Maybe someday I will see you again
And you'll look me in my eyes and call me your friend

Take you away from that empty apartment
You stay and forget where the heart is
Someday if ever you love me you'd say its okay
It's okay
It's okay

Chapter 16

Post by lizard_queen »

Hey everyone. Just a note, i chose this Gomez song because it was the one that was playing in the background of Max and LIz's first Kiss, until they changed the audio for the DVD. Any whoo...the next chapter:

Chapter 16

They had been driving for a day and a half, getting closer to Roswell every second. Michael took the wheel after Max got too tired and started to swerve off the road, scaring Kyle so much he refused to continue on the journey until they had a new driver. Max reluctantly gave the wheel over to Michael and fell asleep in the passenger seat shortly afterwards. Liz had been asleep for the past hour, resting her head on Kyle’s lap, curled up in a ball on the back seat.

Kyle looked down at her peaceful expression and was amazed by her strength and her power considering what she had been through lately. He knew that she wouldn’t have been able to get through this without Max, no matter how much she denied it. Anyone could see the effect they had on each other by just looking at them when they were in the same room. They needed each other; it was as simple as that.

Liz pulled her legs closer, swept away in a sea of dreams…

The girl sat on a beach chair on her balcony, scribbling in her journal silently as the candle light around her flickered across her smooth skin, giving her the appearance of almost glowing. A whisper came from the ally next to her, drawing her attention away from her words.

“Liz! Are you there?”

She walked over to the edge of the balcony and peered over, seeing the hopeful look in the boys amber eyes. They smiled simultaneously, as if they could read each other’s thoughts.

“Hi!” The boy’s smile widened as he spoke, as sense of relief flooding over when he saw her face, highlighted from the candle light.

“Hi!”

“Can I come up?”

“Yeah, sure!”

She walked over to the chair and closed her journal, turning back to see Max quickly scale the ladder and land softly in front of her.

“Very Impressive!”

“I try…”

A sheepish smile crossed his face as she grabbed his wrist and pulled him out of view of her window, hoping that her parents didn’t hear anything. They stood looking into each other’s eyes, their body’s inches away, their breaths mingling as they spoke. Liz gently ran her hands along his wrist, absently stroking his skin.

“You really can’t stay long…”

The disappointment was evident in his eyes but he pushed it back, knowing that she was right, as much as he hated to admit it. “I know, I just wanted to tell you that I’ve been thinking a lot about last night…”

“Yeah, me too.”

“When I saw Valenti taking you away like that… It just hit home for me, you know? How much knowing me has screwed up your life…”

He looked away, forcing himself not to look in her eyes otherwise all of his control would leave and he would do something that could change everything. She spoke, demanding attention from his eyes as she continued to stroke his wrist without realising what she was doing.

“No, it’s just the opposite!”

“Thank you for saying that.”

“It’s the whole truth Max.”

He could feel everything slipping away, reality fading away until it was just him and her, and he couldn’t let it happen. As much as he wanted to, he couldn’t do that to her. Max looked into her deep brown eyes and his breath caught, leaving him speechless for a brief minute before snapping back to veracity. “I better go…”

He took a small step closer, the distance between their heated bodies becoming smaller without them even realising.

“Why?” Her eyes enveloped him, making everything around them fade, his self control completely destroyed.

“Because if I don’t go right now, things are gonna change.”

“Change, how?”

His hand threaded through her dark hair, brushing it back behind her ear. “I’m gonna have to touch your hair… because it’s so soft…” His hand moved to stroke her cheek, her hot skin causing flames to spark against his as he looked in her eyes, seeing all of her. “And I’d have to tell you that, no matter what happens, it’s all worthwhile for me because we’re together…”

Liz leaned into his touch, their lips being drawn closer by some otherworldly force. “And then?” Her eyes filled with desire and hope as she looked up at him, their bodies inching even closer together.

“And then… I’d have… to do this…” Max whispered as his lips closed over hers, gently tasting her before breaking away. He looked into her eyes, seeing everything she saw, feeling everything she felt when she was with him. He needed reassurance that what he was doing was okay, and that he wasn’t crossing any boundaries.

Her hand snaked up around his neck and pulled his lips back to hers. His arms went around her waist, pulling her body tightly up against his as he passionately kissed her, being swept up in all that was Liz Parker. He gently caressed her back with his hand where her shirt had ridden up, the skin-to-skin contact sending electricity everywhere through him. He parted her lips with his tongue, exploring her mouth gently, savouring the moment before breaking away, panting for breath as he looked into her eyes.

His grip became tighter around her waist and she struggled to get free. She looked down at his arms suffocating her before looking back up at his face. Her eyes became large as she saw that his face was covered with a black balaclava. She banged her hands against his chest, screaming loudly, hoping her parents would hear her, but no one came to help…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

…He parted her lips with his tongue, exploring her mouth gently, savouring the moment before breaking away, panting for breath as he looked into her eyes. He had been waiting to do this for so long, telling himself that it could never happen, that they were too different, yet now that he had it; he wouldn’t trade it for the world. His lips once again met hers and she moaned his name.

“Hmmm…Max…Max…”

“Max! Max, wake up!”

He jumped in his seat, suddenly realising where he was. Kyle was shaking his shoulder, his voice frantic as he stared down at the sleeping girl. Her body was jerking violently as she dreamt. Michael quickly pulled the jeep over to the side of the road, hitting the breaks down hard as he watched in the mirror. Max jumped over the seat and into the back, shaking Liz’s shoulders as he tried to wake her from the depths of sleep.

“She won’t wake up… I’ve already tried… She just started jerking around and…”

Max seemed oblivious to Kyle’s distressed voice, concentrating on trying to wake Liz up. He grabbed her arms that were thrashing around in the air and straddled her legs, stopping her from kicking him.

“Liz! Liz!” Knowing it was useless he looked up at Kyle’s distraught face. “Kyle, hold her arms for me… I’m gonna try something.”

He did as told and held her shaking arms tightly, feeling how much she was fighting against his grip. Max put his hands on either side of her face, trying to open their connection.

He could feel her pain, feel how panicked she was and how scared. He pushed past it all, trying to find where she was hiding. Images flashed past him, thoughts and emotions but he shrugged them off until he found the right one.

The man was holding her tightly against the brick wall on her balcony. Max could see her screaming in pain but he couldn’t hear anything. He tried to take a step forward but his feet were glued to the ground. He called her name, trying to get her attention but he too had no sound when he spoke.

Max pulled out of the imaged and continued his search through her mind, feeling her getting closer the further he pushed. He soon found her, curling up in a ball, hiding in the depths of her mind, hiding from the outside world. He extended his hand, urging her to take it, but she retreated even further, afraid of getting hurt again. Max took a step towards her huddled form and gently picked her up, carrying her out of her mind and back to reality.

They both gasped as the first rush of air hit them. Max fell backwards against the seat, worn out from the use of his powers and how hard she resisted. Liz opened her eyes and sat upwards, falling back as everything around her started to spin. Sweat covered Max’s forehead as he struggled to get his breathing back to normal, never taking his eyes off her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max pulled the jeep up in front of the UFO centre, staring across the street at the lights on the sign for the Crashdown. After he finally got Liz out of her dream, they once again continued driving, wanting to get back to Roswell before dark. It was strange being in her dream, in her mind. It almost seemed as if she was having the same dream as he was, but hers was plagued with thoughts of her attack, turning their first kiss into a nightmare.

He looked over at where she was sitting in the passenger seat. They had already dropped Kyle and Michael home in an attempt to avoid it being harder for Liz than it already was.

“Liz?” asked Max, knowing that she was hesitating. He knew that she was afraid of how her parents would react when she just showed up again. He knew her fear because he could feel it. It came off her in waves, almost suffocating all of his own emotions.

He gently placed his hand on top of hers, gaining her attention as she tore her gaze away from the doom that awaited her. Her eyes met Max’s and she automatically broke down. She started shaking her head back and forth as she looked between him and the Crashdown in horror, panic sweeping over her entire body as she curled up in a ball, not wanting to face what ever was awaiting her.

“Liz…”

“No! I don’t want to go back! No!”

“Liz, come on… you have to eventually!”

She looked up at him with tear filled eyes, pleading with him one last time. “No! Max… you don’t understand! I can’t! I can’t face them yet! Please don’t make me do this!”

She griped onto his shirt, holding on tightly as he watched her. Max brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and she relaxed slightly, letting go of his shirt. “Please Max, don’t make me do this, not tonight…”

He nodded his head and turned the key in the ignition. Putting the Jeep into gear they drove off down the street, heading toward the only place he knew she would feel safe that night.

Gomez - We Haven't Turned Around

We came, we came, we came again
To stem the tide and point the blame
Came back for more
Came back to see what you had in store
Everyone join the line, everyone

So you wanna spin the world around?
And anybody else

So you wanna make catastrophe?
Won't you send it right over to me

To steal the time and haunt the graves
Just because he's there
Don't mean you see it anywhere
Maybe it's a trick of the light
Maybe

Is anyone actually reading this anymore, or have you all given up?

Chapter 17

He quickly walked into his room, throwing his bag on his bed before heading straight over to the window where she was waiting. Opening his window, Max looked out to find nothing, and immediately thought that she had decided to skip town again. A rustling noise came from further down and after sticking his head out to get a look at what was making the noise, he was relieved to see it was her.

She was standing with her back to his window, her arms crossed over her chest as she gripped onto her sweater, waiting for him to take her inside.

“Liz!” She turned around as he whispered her name, her eyes red from crying and her knuckles white from her hold on her clothes. She slowly walked over to his window, and held onto his outstretched hand as she stumbled inside, shaking from the inside out. Max caught her as she fell and held her close as she cried against his chest, all of her emotions tangled in her mind, blending together, confusion so great that she no longer knew what she was crying about.

He slowly directed them back so they were standing next to his bed. Without breaking his hold on her, he lay them down on top of the covers, pulling her even closer, almost as if he was afraid he would loose her.

Max watched as she cried, stroking her hair and whispering soothing words in her ear, noticing when her cries became sobs and her breathing evened out; the first signs of sleep. He closed his eyes, wanting to reach the peaceful place in between awake and asleep, wanting to feel the calmness and tranquillity, but being interrupted by Isabel’s booming voice as she opened his door.

“Max! When did you get back? How come you didn’t tell me you…”

She stopped as soon as she saw Liz asleep next to him, her head resting on his chest, her face red and covered with drying tears. Max lifted a finger up and placed it on his lips, signalling for her to keep quiet. All Isabel could do was stare at the picture in front of her, her mouth opened wide as she gasped.

Max gently rolled Liz off him and pulled the blankets up around her to keep her warm before moving out into the corridor with Isabel following him. He leant back against the wall and let out a deep sigh, his head thrown back as he rubbed his eyes.

“Hey Is… I’m back! Miss me?”

“Max! What is she doing here? I thought the idea of your ‘Quest For The Holy Liz’ was to return her to her own home, not ours!” Her whispers were harsh as she spat at him, her eyes accusing, burning a hole through him.

“It was… it is! She just… wasn’t ready! I’m taking her back first thing in the morning… she just needs some sleep and to figure some things out first Isabel, that’s all.” Max continued to rub his face, trying to wake up after his relaxing moment, as brief as it was.

Isabel shook her head at the sight of her little brother. His hair was messed up and he could barely keep his eyes open. “What has she done to you?”

“What?” He forced his hands down to his side, his eyes red from being rubbed to much as she stared at the blonde in front of him. She had a small smile plastered on her face, almost sympathetic in its own way.

“You would never go to this much trouble for Tess!”

“Isabel, you wouldn’t even go to this much trouble for Tess!”

“That’s not the point! Liz has some sort of hold on you Max…”

“Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?”

“Not quite sure yet. I guess we’ll just have to see!” She turned and walked down the corridor to the lounge room, quickly flashing him a small smile before she disappeared around the corner.

Max smiled to himself as he pushed off the wall and waddled back to his room. He opened the door and his smile grew wider as he took in the picture before him. Liz Parker. In his bed. Asleep.

He had never seen a more beautiful sight. Her hair was tousled over the pillow and down her back, shining from the light of the street lamp outside his window. She was curled up in a ball, her knees pulled up against her chest and she clung onto the sheets over her, trying to anchor herself into this world so she wouldn’t slip away.

Max quietly closed the door behind him, sealing it shut with his powers on the off chance his parents decided to wake him up in the morning. He hopped under the warm blankets of his bed and rolled onto his side so he was looking directly at Liz’s face. She shifted positions in her sleep, spooning herself against his warm body before letting out a small sigh and falling back into her dreams. It was a while before Max closed his eyes, not being able to tare his eyes away from her sleeping form. When he did finally sleep, his dreams were, as always, Liz.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liz had woken up to unfamiliar surroundings, her head spinning from the giant headache she was now carrying thanks to a night of crying herself to sleep. She took a deep breath, taking in the scent of Max, and all of her memories of last night came flooding back to her. She hated doing this to him, keeping him in the dark, using him as a shoulder to cry on, knowing that as soon as they became too close she would have to pull away, again. I wasn’t fair on him, and she longed to tell him, she wanted to so much, but she couldn’t. She had made a promise to one Max, and even if he no longer existed and probably never will again, she would still keep her word, even if it killed her.

Liz was startled out of her thoughts when the door opened. She pulled the blankets up around her, griping them tightly as she awaited the entrance of the person who had opened the door. She let out a small sigh when she saw Max carrying a tray of food in one hand and a cup in the other. He gave her a warm smile as he kicked the door closed behind him. He laid the tray on the bed next to her and placed the coffee on the nightstand.

“I thought you might want some breakfast before we have to go and…” he left the rest of the statement hanging, knowing perfectly well that she would try and get out of it.

She looked up at him nervously, not quite sure if she was hungry from not having eaten anything decent since lunch time yesterday, or feeling like she was about to throw up from the thought of leaving his room and facing her parents. She swallowed quietly before whispering out her thanks.

Max sat at the end of his bed and watched her stare at the food, knowing what was going through her mind. “Liz… you have to do this!”

She slowly nodded her head, biting back the tears that threatened to fall at any moment. Max pulled her into a gentle hug and rubbed her back in a soothing motion. She pulled away after a few minutes and took a shaky breath, trying to gear herself up for what was to come.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tess was pissed! When Kyle came home late last night and told her the story about Liz, and what had happened, she acted concerned, gasped at all of the alarming news, and said the appropriate things when the time called for it. On the outside she looked as though she cared about what had happened to Liz, but on the inside she was fuming.

She went to all of that trouble to organise the attacker, giving him the chance to do what ever he wanted with her, as long as Max and the rest of his stupid minions never found her, and all of her efforts were wasted.

Not only did that little bitch not get taken out of the picture, but Max was the one to rescue her from what would otherwise be her last breath of air!

Kyle was the most oblivious of all. She had heard him on the phone to Liz so many times that it was laughable. Tess had even gone so low that she at one point considered telling Max about the late night calls, but decided against it. She knew how loyal Kyle was to Liz, and knew that he wouldn’t tell her location unless it was important. What she didn’t count on was the flashes!

If she had known that when Max had touched the phone he would have gotten a flash of Liz, she would have done something to change it, something that made all of the information false, something that pointed him in the wrong direction, but it was too late. He knew where Liz was, and Tess knew that he wouldn't waste any time in finding her. So she set up the attack, hoping that when Max finally found Liz, she would already be dead. One thing Tess had learnt from this experience was to never trust a human to do an aliens job!

When Liz had rung Max that night just after she had left, Tess had been standing outside his window, watching him. It was something that she always did; watched him while he slept, while he dreamt about her, and not that stupid little human!

Tess had anticipated him trying to find her number, and she had to admit that she made a very good phone operator…

Now that Liz was back, she knew that Max would be to preoccupied to take any time with her, so she needed a plan, and fast!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He parked the jeep in front of the Crashdown, feeling her grip tighten on his hand as he went to climb out of the jeep. He looked at her in concern and noticed her pale features and her eyes, no longer showing the emotion they once had. It was heart breaking to witness her slowly falling apart in front of him. “Liz?”

She took another deep breath, feeling the need to hyperventilate coming on strong, but trying to push it into the back of her mind. “I’m okay…”

The shakiness and uncertainty in her voice didn’t go unnoticed by Max, but he followed her lead when he saw her get out of the passenger seat and slowly walk to the curb in front of the restaurant. He walked over and stood next to her, her hand instinctively searching for his and gripping tightly once she found it. They started towards the door, Liz needing Max there as a support, an anchor, and Max needing to be needed.

Chapter 18

Jeff Parker stood in the middle of a crowded restaurant, a cloth in one hand and a glass of Cherry Coke in the other. His mouth was hanging open at the sight in front of him. His Daughter, whom he hadn’t seen in over a month, holding the hand of Max Evans, a regular customer since he could remember. Jeff had thought it odd that he hadn’t seen Max in a week as he was usually glued to the far booth, but he had just shrugged it off, thinking that now Liz was no longer here, he too had no longer had any reason to come here. The sound of shattering glass and liquid spraying all over the bottom of his pants broke him out of his trance.

He looked down at his feet. A pool of brown liquid surrounded the smashed glass that had been in his hand less than five seconds ago. He lifted his gaze back up to where she stood nervously, guilt plaguing her features as tears formed in the corner of her eyes.

“Lizzie?” His voice was a disbelieving whisper, thinking that he must be dreaming, that if he blinked, she would no longer be standing in front of him. His vision went blurry with tears, but he could still make out her figure moving towards him. His arms went tightly around her as he pulled her close, both crying for the other as they were once again reunited.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maria opened the door, expecting the person on the other side to be trying to sell her something. Why else would they wake her up at ten in the morning? She was left speechless when her eyes landed on Michael. He was standing there nervously, hands in pockets, a sheepish smile on his face.

“Michael? What are…”

Before she could finish the sentence, his lips were crashing down on hers, needing to drown in her taste. He pulled away breathlessly his forehead leaning against hers as he looked into her eyes. “Miss me?”

She pulled him into a tight embrace, all of her worries as to why he hadn’t called her for the past two days disappearing at the feel of him.

“Ahh… Maria?” Michael said through a choky voice, his arms pinned down to his side as she squeezed him tighter.

“Hmm…”

“I…sort of… can’t… breath! You’re… choking…. me!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liz collapsed on her bed, staring up at the ceiling above her. She never wanted to have that talk with her parents again, ever! The way they looked at her, the disappointment flaming in their eyes as they set out the ground rules for the way her life would be from now on. They had to know where she was at all times, and she was going to be grounded for the rest of eternity. She knew that she deserved it and that they were only trying to make sure that it never happened again, but it didn’t stop the suffocating feeling from flowing over her, urging her to get her bags and run again.

She looked around her room. It was the same as she had left it, seemingly not disturbed since her departure, and yet, she couldn’t stand it. Everything brought back old memories, reasons to run, and she couldn’t take it. She stood up and pulled the blankets off her bed, throwing them onto the floor before running over to her nightstand and pushing everything off with one swipe of her arm. She then turned to her dresser, pulling out drawers full of clothes and throwing them across the room.

She collapsed on the floor in a fit of tears, landing on top of now wrinkled clothes. Her head hurt from crying so much, and she was amazed that she still had tears left after the amount of times they had been let loose over the last month. She never really knew what effect she had had on everyone in Roswell until she saw her parents. They had bags under their eyes from never sleeping, staying up, hoping that she might just walk through the door and everything would be alright. They looked so worn out, like they had lost all hope in everything.

The suffocating feeling came on strong as she lay on the floor, trapped from everything around her. She had tried to call Maria earlier as she wasn’t allowed to leave the Crashdown, but she refused to talk to her, hanging up halfway through Liz’s apology.

Liz stood up on trembling legs, which matched the rest of her shaking body and made her way over to her window. Climbing out onto the balcony she took in a shaky breath of fresh air, feeling the calming effects it had on her instantly. She slowly walked over to the beach chair and sat down, running her hands through her hair, wishing that she had someone to talk to, but she was all alone, with destiny screwing her life as a hobby.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Liz? Are you in here?”

Max had been talking to Mr Parker for the last hour, explaining how he came to find Liz in Phoenix, but casually leaving out the attempted rape, knowing that her father would not take kindly to it. One good thing to come from Liz running away was that he never had to pay for food any more whenever he ate at the Crashdown, her father seeing him as the hero in this situation for bringing his little girl home.

He took a step into her room and gasped at the sight in front of him. Her room was completely trashed. Her clothes were spread all over the floor, her bed was completely bare and halfway across her room, her dresser was slightly tipped over and missing drawers and her nightstand was upside down. A small strip of paper caught his eye and walked towards it. Picking it up from a pile of books in the middle of her room, he turned it over and a sad smile crossed his face.

He ran his finger over the smooth surface of the photo, looking at how happy they were. Liz was sitting on his lap in the passport photo booth, her arm around his neck as she kissed his cheek. He remembered how she had dragged him into the small photo box one day last spring, insisting that they needed the photos then and that they couldn’t wait till after the movie.

Max was pulled out of his memories by movement at her window. Liz slowly climbed in and stood nervously with her hands on her hips, biting her bottom lip, not making eyes contact but instead staring at one particular pile of clothes that she found so interesting. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other and scratched behind his ear in embarrassment. “You okay?”

She nodded slowly and he noticed her tear streaked face. “Do you want some help cleaning up?” She nodded once more and moved to the pile of clothes she was still staring at. They worked in quiet until Max came across a cd. He walked over to her portable player and put it in, pressing play. The sounds of Incubus filled the air as they cleaned, making the awkward silence between them seem less awkward.

Liz turned around to place a pile of books on her bed and noticed Max singing to himself, his hips swaying along with the music as he danced. She couldn’t but smile as he moved to the music, oblivious to her staring.

‘Seven am;
The garbage truck beeps as it backs up
And I start my day thinking about what I've thrown away.
Could I push rewind?
The credits traverse, signifying the end
But I missed the best part.
Could we please go back to start?
Forgive my indecision’

The words were strange as they surrounded her, seemingly dissolving everything else until it was just her and the music.

‘Eleven am,
By now you would think that I would be up
But my bed sheets shade the heat of choices I've made
And what did I find?
I never thought I could want someone so much
'Cause now you're not here and I'm knee deep in that old fear.
Forgive my indecision... I am only a man.’

Max new the words off by heart, having listened to the song countless times for the last month as he thought about Liz and where she could have run to. Turning around, he noticed her staring at him and blushed slightly at the realisation that he had been dancing. He wondered if she understood the message he was sending her, or if she just thought he was trying to fill the silence. She flinched as the next line was sung, and he knew in that instants that she understood.

‘Twelve pm and my dusty telephone rings.
Heavy head up from my pillow, who could it be?
I hope its you.’

Thank you for all announcing your presence by replying. Even if i get no replys, i'll probly still post this just for the fun of doing something, but thats not the point. I'm glad you all like it and that your still reading and havn't got bored yet. You can all go back into hiding if you wish.

Has anyone got any questions about this fic or anything (questions that i can answer without giving too much away)? I feel as if i'm not doing my job as a fan fic writer cause no one is asking questions...

Also, if you have nothing better to do, like play with your dog or wash your car or vegging in front of the tv, read my other fic (the links in my signature), and then, if your still bored, go and nominate some people for awards

BTW, the song at the end of this is a dedication to my friend Emily, as she's obsessed with Eve 6, so yeah, plus it goes with the story....

Anyway, on with the story...

Chapter 19

“Mmm… vanilla…”

Max let his mouth travel down from where he was currently taking in the scent of Liz’s hair and nuzzled her neck, brushing his lips over her soft skin.

“Strawberries…”

She smiled at the sound of his dazed voice, so calm, so peaceful, she just wanted to sit here all day with him while he explored her fragrance and talked in his husky voice, the voice that sent butterflies into a frenzy of back flips in her stomach. He placed a gentle kiss on her neck and moved his lips up to hers. She was taken away with the gentleness of the kiss, so full of passion, so full of love. Forget her earlier request, she just wanted to sit here all day kissing Max Evans.

He pulled away so that their foreheads were touching and slowly licked his lips, sending a streak of desire through every cell in her body. He took a deep breath, keeping his eyes closed, savouring her taste before speaking.

“Mmm… bubblegum!”

She couldn’t help but laugh at how cute he looked right now. He opened his eyes as was left breathless at how beautiful she was. The smile on her face was even more gorgeous than usual and she seemed to have a glowing effect surrounding her. Her eyes were dark with desire as she looked up at him, wearing a seductive grin that left him gasping. If it was possible, he fell even more in love with her…

Liz slowly opened her eyes, taking in her surroundings. The first thing she noticed was that the mattress beside her was cold and empty, the telltale signs that she had slept alone that night. And then it hit her…

She was once again at home, in Roswell, in her room, in her bed, with nothing of Max to hold onto…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He walked into the Crashdown, quickly surveying all of the customers until he saw her. She was sitting alone in the far booth, looking small and scared, as if everything around her was foreign and at any moment the world could turn on her and eat her whole. He sighed softly at the look she had in her eyes as she played with her napkin nervously.

Her eyes that had once held so much warmth, so much life, so much love, were now deep pools of nothing. Those eyes that used to show her every emotion, and reflected everyone else’s were now empty. He knew that when she had first found out about aliens some of their spark had left, fled into the night, too afraid to be seen by anyone else, but he also knew that the events of the last few months had taken their toll aswell.

In the early months of winter she had suddenly become closed off, no longer seeming as happy as she had before. This too, had a lot to do with aliens. Still, she refused to tell any one her problems, and gradually she pulled away from the group. The sad thing was, no one saw it coming, not even him, until Alex died and she ran away.

He walked over to the booth she was sitting in and sat down opposite her, not saying anything, just quietly waiting for her to acknowledge his presence.

Liz turned the napkin over in her fingers, millions of thoughts running through her head at the same time.

I wonder how far I could get this time before they realised I was gone?

Would anyone miss me if I did leave again?

Would Max try and find me again, or would he give up?

Would he even care?

Her musing was interrupted by a presence sitting down across from her. She didn’t want to talk to anyone after the dream, she just wanted to curl up in a ball and live back in the world where her and Max were together and happy, without any destiny, or future versions who come back, cut your heart out and throw it away…

Loosing an internal battle with herself, she reluctantly looked up into the eyes of the boy sitting across from her. His eyes were full of concern and pain, pain for what she was going through, for what she had been going through, for what was to come…

“Hey Kyle.” Her voice was barely above a whisper, throw in the lunch rush in the café, and it was almost impossible to hear what she said. Kyle however, heard everything, even the things she wasn’t saying.

“Hey, how are you feeling?”

“Fine…You?”

“Great, I’m great…” He saw how she wasn’t really into the conversation and how her mind seemed elsewhere, just like it had for some time now. Ever since Max Evans had first healed him, he and Liz had become really good friends, both knowing what the other was going through as they were the only two people that they knew of who had died and be brought back by an alien. At least he thought he knew what she was going through. He now had no idea what she was going through as she wouldn’t open up to anyone, not even Max. Granted, he wasn’t exactly Kyle’s favourite alien, and Liz had been through enough because of him, but even Max would satisfy his need for her to talk to someone, anyone who was willing to listen. “…Well, actually Liz, I’m not great!”

She looked up suddenly from where her eyes had drifted back to the napkin at his harsh voice.

“You see, one of my really good friends, you might even call her a best friend, is going through a really hard time at the moment, and she won’t talk to anyone! This so-called ‘friend’ of mine just ran away, and I was the one who she called when she got lonely! I was the one who helped her get through the days when she was really, really sick! When we finally went to bring my ‘friend’ home, we found her in an extremely bad situation! Sure, we didn’t handle it the way most would, but that was because this ‘friend’ of mine asked us not to!

“You see, this ‘friend’ was almost RAPED Liz!” His voice was malicious as he put extra emphasis on the word ‘raped’. She cringed at the way he was speaking to her, the way he was abusing her with his words. She could feel tears start to form in the corner of her eyes as his voice became low and harsh, so only she could hear him.

“You may not see it when you look at her, thanks to some handy alien magic, but she was badly beat and bruised, and someone tried to force themself upon her! If we hadn’t come when we did, I hate to think about what would have happened to this ‘friend’. And now this ‘friend’ of mine is holding it all in, not talking to anyone about her experiences! But Liz, you know what really hurts the most about the way my friend is acting about all this? The fact that last night when I rang her to see if she was okay and how she was doing, she hung up on me. When I tried to call again, she just didn’t answer the phone! When I came around to see if everything was all right, she locked herself in her room! Do you see my problem now Liz?”

He slid out of the booth and stormed off, leaving a lonely girl with tears running down her red cheeks watching as he walked away. She stood up on shaky feet as ran into the bathroom, covering her eyes with her hands so no one would see the pain his words had caused.

Turning on the water faucet to drown out her sobs, she cried, knowing that he was right. He was right about everything. But the sad thing was, even after he had viciously attacked her, she still wouldn’t, couldn’t talk to anyone about what she was feeling. If she started, she would never be able to stop, which would lead to the Future Max story being told and someone else would know her dark secret, and she couldn’t let that happen, not to anyone!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max crossed the road to the Crashdown, his hands in his pocket as he walked, nervously thinking about what he would say to her. As he stepped up onto the footpath, Kyle forcefully pushed the door open and walked off down the street, obviously in a bad mood. Max was about to run after him when his gaze fell upon the girl in the last booth of the café. Her face was red from crying as she quickly brushed away the tears and hurried into the bathroom, covering her eyes with her hands to avoid any questions from people she knew.

Before he knew what he was doing, Max was standing outside the bathroom, knocking gently on the door. “Liz?”

“Leave me alone!”

“Liz? What happened?”

“Nothing, leave me alone!”

“Liz…”

“I’m fine Max, just please, leave me alone!”

He took a step back and waited for her to come out, not wanting to push her. Liz shakily turned off the tap and dabbed down her face with a piece of paper towel from the rack. She knew that he wouldn’t leave until he saw that she was okay, so there was only one option.

She opened the door at the back of the bathroom and stepped out into the employee lounge. Turning around, she quietly closed the door before turning back around. She gasped as a pair of piercing amber eyes stared back at her.

“…Max?”

Her voice was breathless as she spoke; partly from the fright he had given her, and the other part because of his eyes. Those eyes that spoke a thousand words with just one glance. Those eyes that she dreamed about every night. Those eyes that showed his soul.

She couldn’t stand his scrutinizing gaze any longer as she felt the tears coming back. He bottom lip trembled as she tried to hold them back, failing miserably when she felt the warm water trickle down her cheek.

Max tenderly brushed the tear away with his thumb, a perfect excuse to touch her soft skin, to come into contact with her once again, even it was for a short time. As soon as his skin came into contact with hers, he was pulled into a flash…

“You see, this ‘friend’ was almost RAPED Liz!”

“ You may not see it when you look at her, thanks to some handy alien magic, but she was badly beat and bruised, and someone tried to force themself upon her! If we hadn’t come when we did, I hate to think about what would have happened to this ‘friend’. And now this ‘friend’ of mine is holding it all in, not talking to anyone about her experiences!”

“ Do you see my problem now Liz?”

As fast as he was pulled into the flash, he was pulled out, back into reality, back to where Liz was quietly crying in front of him. He immediately pulled her into his arms, desperately trying to shield her from the outside world and anything that could make this frail girl into front of him closer to breaking. He soothingly stroked her hair and her lower back, nuzzling her silky hair and he took a deep breath. Vanilla. Just like in the dream. She sobbed quietly into his shirt as he whispered in her ear, trying to comfort her as much as he could.

“Shh… It’s okay! Please don’t cry Liz… I hate to see you cry!”

She burried her head in his chest, his scent mixed with the feel of his strong arms having a calming effect on her. She could tell that he had seen what had happened with Kyle in the flash, and as much as she hated to believe it, Liz was glad that he knew…

“It’s okay Liz… I’m here…”

Max pulled away slightly so he could look into her eyes, trying to voice his feelings…

“I’m never gonna leave you Liz… never!”

He said the words so sincerely that for a brief moment, she almost believed him...

Eve 6 - Friend Of Mine

Are you feeling that you’re on the brink
Of spilling some red in the sink?
It wasn’t the easiest year
No I don’t want you to go

Are the memories too hard to take
Rape is a word with a face
No I don’t want you to go
You know I don’t want you to go

Friend of mine stay alive
Don’t you leave me here
All alone in a world with a chronic tear
I will always be here, I will always be here
I will always be here for you

We walked the promenade in the rain
With Velcro shoes and an ice cream stain
You’re the only one who understands
Remember that Blake said to make sure you wake
Help save your generation

No I don’t want you to go
You know we don’t want you to go

Friend of mine stay alive
Don’t you leave me here
All alone in a world with a chronic tear
I will always be here, I will always be here
I will always be here for you
BREAK!

Don’t look back
The past is just that
We are We are We are We are
Awake

Friend of mine stay alive
Don’t you leave me
Friend of mine stay alive
Don’t you leave me
I will always be here
I will always be here

Friend of mine stay alive
Don’t you leave me here
All alone in a world with a chronic tear
I will always be here, I will always be here
I will always be here for you

Chapter 20

“Michael! What are you doing?”

Maria yelped as he gently bit down on the skin on her neck, swirling his tongue around on the smooth flesh, sending waves of lust through her entire body.

His only response was a muffled noise as he continued to suck on her neck. “Hmne foom flurm…”

“Huh?” She sat forward from where she was lying back against him and turned to look at him. His lips were wet and red and his hair was messed from lying down.

He took an impatient breath and pulled her back down next to him. “Having some fun!”

“I’m trying to watch the movie, and what your doing is really distracting!” She settled back against him and tried to focus on the movie again. Michael once more moved his lips to the crook of her neck, gently kissing her already swollen skin. “Michael!”

Maria tried to sit up but his arms were anchoring her down against him. He briefly stopped his assault on her neck and mumbled in her ear. “Movie’s boring…”

“Michael! If my mother walks in and find us here, we’re going to be in so much…Oh… we really shouldn’t be doing this…Mmm…”

His hands played with the hem of her shirt, before becoming more daring and quietly slipping under the soft material. He stroked the warm skin on her stomach, knowing that he was already crossing a fine line, and that if he went any further she would unquestionably kick his ass.

He gently nipped her ear before rolling her around to face him. His voice was husky as he spoke, and Maria could feel the bulge in the crotch of his pants sticking into her lower stomach. “God I missed you! Next time Max drags me out of the state, I’m taking you with me!”

Before she could reply with a sarcastic comment, he kissed her once more, thrusting his tongue into her mouth as she relaxed into him, basking in the feel of him surrounding her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He kissed her gently on the lips before slipping out of the sheets, walking over to where his clothes lay on the floor next to her bathroom door. The girl watched from him from the bed, studying how his muscles rippled when he moved, how his golden skin glowed in the moonlight. He pulled his shirt over his head, letting it fall down around his waist as he walked back over to the bed where she was watching. He kissed her once more, getting lost in her taste.

The boy pulled away, leaving her breathless as she looked into his eyes. She gently caressed his cheek before whispering in his ear.

“Goodnight Max…”

He kissed her once more, not wanting to leave her, but knowing that if their parents found them, only trouble would come. He stepped away from where she lay naked in her bed, the sheets rumpled and creased from their previous lovemaking. He walked over to her window and turned around to see her face one more time, but was surprised when he found her soft lips. Max pulled her naked body closer as they kissed, finally giving in and slowly walking her back to her bed.

Liz thread her fingers through his hair at the back of his neck as they stumbled backwards. Max suddenly stopped halfway across the room and his grip tightened on her waist, almost suffocating her. When she pulled her lips away from him, she realised that it wasn’t Max, but the man who plagued her every thought, every dream.

“No…No! No! You’re not Max! No!” Her eyes were wide with horror as the man smirked at her, before hitting her across the cheek with the back of his hand. She held her face as a silent tear slid down her cheek, stinging the bruised flesh.

The man threw her against the wall as she pleaded with him, begging him to leave her alone. She hit the wall with a loud ‘thud’ and slid down onto her knees. He advanced on her shaking form lying on the floor, towering over her small body as she dragged herself into an upright position. She brushed the blood away from her lip with the back of her hand, glaring into his menacing eyes with the same determination as he showed her.

The man picked her up by her shoulders and threw her onto her bed, the mattress moving slightly under her weight as she impacted with the sheets. He walked over to her as she screamed for help, but was silenced by another hit on the face.

Liz squirmed under his weight as he lay himself down on top of her, holding her hands above her head on the mattress. She screamed once again, desperately trying to find help before he killed her…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Max slowly opened his eyes and realised that he was asleep in Liz’s room. He had probably fallen asleep after she did. After the incident in the Crashdown, Liz was still shaky and looked extreemly tired. Max had taken her into her room, watching over her as she slept. It was then that he noticed her lying next to him, muffled cries coming from her mouth as tears streamed down her cheeks. She was tossing and turning on the bed next to him, caught in the depths of another bad dream.

He quickly sat upright and reached for her shoulders, trying to hold her body still so she wouldn’t hurt herself. He couldn’t connect with her here, it was too dangerous with her parents in the next room and her door open.

“Liz! Liz! Wake up! Liz!” He placed his hand on either side of her head, trying to send her good thoughts, which also happened to include all the times that he was with her, to drown out the bad dream.

Her thrashings slowly deteriorated and she went limp in his arms, with nothing but her small sobs of pain breaking the silence. Max pulled her shaking body closer to his, wrapping his arms tighter around her waist as she clung to him.

“M-Max?” She slowly lifted her head to find an incredible pair of amber orbs staring back at her intently.

“Shh… It’s okay.”

Max gently stroked her back as she rested her head on his chest, his scent and warms arms comforting her more than she would like them to. She pulled away, her body still shaking slightly, but she shrugged it off, not wanting Max to think that she wasn’t alright.

She stood up on trembling legs and headed to her bathroom, leaving a dejected Max still sitting on her bed. He stood up and tried to follow her, opening his mouth to say something but he was cut off.

“I’m fine Max.”

“I…uh…Liz…”

“Leave me alone, please!”

He stood in silence as she shut the door to the bathroom in his face.

Liz walked over to her sink and looked in the mirror at her face. The bags under her eyes were growing worse and she was extremely pale. A sudden wave of nausea hit her hard and she stumbled over to the toilet, bracing herself in front of the porcelain bowl in case she vomited.

She knew he was still waiting outside, thinking that if he helped her, they would somehow get back together, but she wouldn’t let that happen. She made a promise, and she never broke her promises to Max, even if he was from fourteen years in the future. So she pulled away, she shut the door in his face, hoping to get the message through to him that it wouldn’t work, that they could never be together, that he had to be with Tess.

Tess. The thought of her and Max made Liz feel even more sick as the bile rose in her throat.

Max stood pacing outside the door of Liz’s bathroom, desperately wanting to help her, but afraid to open the door with his powers in case she was perfectly all right and busy doing something that should be left behind closed quarters. Instead, he tried to reach her on their connection, only to find that she was blocking him out of her mind, just like when she ran away. He was once again trying to decide if he should open the door or not.

At the sound of coughing and choking, he made his decision. Max quickly unlocked the door with his powers and ran inside to where Liz was sitting hunched over the toilet bowl. He kneeled down beside her and gently pulled her hair out of her face as she retched into the toilet, her knuckles white as she gripped the seat.

As soon as Max walked in the door and pulled her hair back, she didn’t feel as sick anymore as she had less than five seconds ago. It was weird that when she was in his presence, everything was suddenly good again. Liz sat back onto the cool tiled floor as Max continued to stroke her hair in a soothing fashion.

He knew what was happening to her. He knew what she was dreaming of, but he had to hear it from her to believe it.

“Your dreaming about him, aren’t you?”
