Disclaimer: I do not own Roswell, so please don’t sue although I wouldn’t object to keeping Colin, Nick, Jason, and Brendan.
Summary: Look at chapter 1 for a more detail summary.
AN: Thanks for reading everyone and hugs for everyone leaving feedback. I’ve been fighting with this chapter for weeks now and it finally came together. We’re finally at the climax of the story, and I don’t think there’s many chapters left before the conclusion. I know that there are still a lot of questions to be answered and starting with this chapter you will find out the answers. Also, I’ve promised several people that I wasn’t killing anyone in this chapter, but from here on out if someone dies then there’s no bringing them back. Enjoy and send all complaints to camsmusesucks@muses.com.
Dedication: A special shout out to Pooh for her ultra cool videos which inspired my muse to get to writing. Thanks girl! Also thanks to Mary for the constant encouragement *cough harassment cough* to get this part done. Another shout out to Lisa for letting bounce ideas off her and letting me know what worked and what didn’t. Also thanks to Ed for the chats and the weird ass dances. LOL Love you guys. *hugs*

Chapter 8: Breathe No More

Roswell, New Mexico 2001

Lightning flashed across the sky as rain poured on those unfortunate enough to be standing out there. Thunder could be heard rumbling in the background. Everyone looked on as the two young women continued staring at each other. The younger of the two had chin length black hair and gray eyes. She wore dark blue jeans with combat boots and a white cashmere sweater that was covered by a long black leather jacket. The other woman was a few years older with long black hair and gray eyes, and she wore a long black gown with black heels, a silver bracelet with a moon charm dangled from her right wrist.

“I don’t understand how you ended up with Khivar,” Serena said.

“Well, it’s really simple. My parents died when I was an infant. Khivar raised me and the rest is history. Now, back to the reason why we’re here. I want the location of the granolith and I want it now, otherwise everyone dies a painful death,” the younger version of Serena said matter-of-factly.

Raising an eyebrow in disbelief at her younger self, Serena answered, “You already know my answer, but just in case you don’t, the answer is no. Also, what do you mean my parents are dead?”

“What part of ‘my parents are dead’ did you not understand? They died in a skirmish back on the home world, and Khivar was kind enough to adopt me. Now back to the killing-you-and-your-friends part of this little gathering.”

Max dropped his shield so the others could hear more about what was going on, and hearing the question concerning the granolith he stepped up and looked the young woman in the eyes and replied, “No deal. I already told that to Nicholas when I was at the summit and the answer stays the same.”

“Yeah well, Nicholas is an idiot and you’re dealing with me now. The offer on the table is very simple: you all get to leave here alive and walking on your own two feet, and the granolith is passed into our keeping. See, this is a deal of a lifetime and everyone gets to win,” she tells him.

“The granolith will remain in our possession, and no one is getting hurt here,” Max told her.

“You know I was told that you were a weaker version of your former self, Zan of Antar. Strange how you seem to be nothing like that, but I guess my informant was wrong,” she said while looking pointedly at Nicholas.

Turning back to look at Max, the two stared at each other, willing the other to break eye contact first.

“You know, this is really weird. I mean some weird things have happened in the past two years, but this tops it all. What do we call them, Serena 1 and Serena 2?” Alex asked, breaking the tension.

“Hmm, that might work, but I was thinking old Serena and young Serena,” Kyle told him.

“There’s so many possibilities… I mean, we can call them good Serena or evil Serena,” Alex told him.

“Alex, behave,” Isabel scolded him.

Seeing Isabel scold at Alex, Kyle snorted, “Well, we know who wears the pants in that relationship.”

Tess elbowed Kyle in the side and told him, “Don’t make me zap you with my voodoo powers.”

He rubbed his side trying to look hurt while Alex snickered at him, “How’s that dress feeling right now?”

Tess and Isabel said together, “Behave.”

“I think Alex’s is right. I don’t mean about the names, but how is it possible that two of the same person can exist in one timeline? It goes against the laws of physics that they’re both standing right here without any consequences,” Liz said.

“Nothing is impossible. It’s really quite simple, but I doubt your little primate brain can handle it. Humans,” Khivar sneered.

“Liz Parker is one of the smartest people I know, and she has more intelligence in her little pinkie than you have in your whole brain,” Tess said angrily.

“Well, look at this. The little queen is protecting her husband’s mistress. If only your subjects could see you now. Look at the four of you, so content with your humans and your boring life. It makes me sick that there are people fighting back home for you, but that situation will soon be fixed.”

Before anyone could say anything, the young woman with the chin length hair interrupted, “Excuse me, can we get back to the situation at hand? Yeah, that’s right, all eyes back this way so I can explain what’s going on. Speaking of which, you can call me by my middle name, Josephine, as you seem to be having a problem with the whole name thing. Now, back to why we’re here. It’s plain and simple really. You have something that my father wants and you’re going to give it to him. Give us the location of the granolith and you can all go free without blood being shed,” Josephine told them.

“The granolith will remain in our possession,” Max told her.

Sighing, Josephine said, “Well, I guess you leave me with no choice.”

She looked at Sebastian and gave him a small nod before turning back to face Max. Before anyone could move she pulled out a dagger and sunk it in Max’s chest while at the same time Sebastian raised his hand releasing a blast at Michael. Everyone could only watch in horror as Max and Michael both slummed to the ground.

“No…,” the girls screamed together. Maria ran to check on Michael as Liz and Isabel moved to Max. Serena, still in shock, could only watch as Tess threw up a shield protecting everyone. Quickly snapping out of it, Serena joined Tess and raised her hand to help enforce the shield. Looking at her younger self, she asked in anguish, “How could you do that? I can’t believe you did that. Doesn’t anything matter to you at all?”

“I guess you underestimated my determination to obtain the granolith. Now hand over the granolith and I’ll think about using it to heal your little king there, and if you do it quickly then maybe I’ll heal the second as well,” Josephine told her.

“No.”

“Well that little shield isn’t going to hold up forever, especially when we all throw our energy at it.”

While Serena argued with her younger self, the others were trying to help Michael and Max. Liz and Isabel with Alex’s help were working on Max’s wounds as the sheriff and Kyle were helping Maria trying to wake up Michael.

“Michael, you’re going have to wake up now. We need you to help kick evil alien butt, so wake up. Please don’t leave me, Spaceboy,” Maria sobbed as she squeezed his hand.

“It’s going to be okay Maria, we just have to figure out how to wake him up,” Valenti told her.

Nodding her head, she wiped her tears away and told him, “Maybe you should go see if you can help Liz with Max.”

He stood up and told Kyle, “See if you can reach Michael.”

Kyle nodded as his father went over to check on the situation with Max and the girls. “Well, Michael, you better wake up now because we’re in one hell of a situation. El Presidente is out and right now we could definitely use your help. Plus, if you die on me who am I going to play poker with on Wednesdays? I mean, I can only win so much of Alex’s money before it gets old, so you’re going have to wake up, man.” Not knowing what else to say, he gathered Maria in his arms as the two tried to deal with what was going on.

Sheriff Valenti moved over to where Liz, Isabel, and Alex were working on Max’s wounds. He bent down and nodded his approval of the bandage that had obviously been made out of Alex’s shirt as his shirt was half-missing. “How is he?” he asked Liz.

Pushing a few strands of hair away from her face, she told him, “I’m not sure. We stopped the blood from flowing anymore, but he’s not waking up at all. For all we know he could have lost too much blood and be gradually slipping into a coma. I just don’t know.”

“You ladies and Mr. Whitman did a great job of stopping the blood. Now we need to get out of here, but right now we don’t have much reinforcement. Isabel, can you go check on Michael and see if you can wake him up?”

“Oh god, I hope Michael is doing better than Max. I can’t lose both of them, they’re the only family I have,” Isabel sobbed.

“Hey, we’re all going to live to fight another day, and don’t forget that we’re all family,” Alex told her as he drew her into his arms.

Sniffing she stood up and wiped her tears away. “Let’s go check on Michael. Hopefully I can wake him up, and maybe we can all use our energies to heal Max.”

She turned and walked over to where Michael lay. Alex got up and nodded at the sheriff, and asked Liz, “Are you going to be okay if I go check on Michael with Iz?”

Liz smiled at her friend and nodded that it was okay. Searching her eyes to see if she would be okay he told her, “Yell if you need me.” He walked to over to the others to check on their fallen friend.

With Alex’s eyes no longer on her, Liz stopped smiling and looked back down at Max sadly. She reached out and touched his face gently as if she was afraid that he would disappear if she wasn’t careful. ‘Why did this happen to us? Everything was going okay and now look at us. You could be dying and there’s nothing that I can do. I wish I had some type of powers to heal you as you once healed me.’

Her thoughts were interrupted by Valenti speaking. “It’s going to be okay. I know that you’ve heard that several times, but we’ve been through worse and we got through it. Now I don’t know how much longer Tess will be able to hold up that force shield, so we need a plan and we need it now.”

Liz grabbed hold of Max’s hand and turned back to face Valenti as she resolved to figure out a way to save them all.

***

Meanwhile…

Tess tried to concentrate on holding up the shield, all the while her heart screaming that she had to go check on her friends to see if she could help, but she knew that she was better help to everyone standing right where she was.

Suddenly, a voice whispered seductively in her mind, ‘You’re on the wrong side. You’re a queen of a whole alien race, and look at what you’ve been reduced to. You’ve been replaced by another, rather, a lower being on the food chain, a human. You can do better than this.’

She told the voice, ‘Get out of my mind. You don’t know what you’re talking about.’

The voice answered, ‘You were stronger in the last timeline. You had no scruples about taking what you wanted.’ Images flashed in her mind, images of her with Max, her killing Alex, telling Max of her betrayal, meeting Khivar, giving birth to Max’s son, and finally her death.

She shook her head in denial and screamed in her mind, ‘No, that wasn’t me. You’re lying because I wouldn’t do anything like that, and Alex is my best friend besides Kyle.’

‘Best friends huh? He couldn’t have known what you did to him in the last time line,’ the voice sneered. Images of Alex dead and Kyle carrying him at her command flashed in her mind. ‘Join us and give us the location of the granolith and you will be restored to the life you were accustomed to.’

She yelled at the voice, ‘Go to hell.’

The voice was harsher now as it told her, ‘Fine, then die with the rest of them.’

Pain filled her head as she felt the presence in her mind do damage to her brain cells. She screamed as the pain became unbearable and she passed out as the pain increased. As she passed out the shield that she had been holding up was no more, as it winked out of existence. The others looked in shock at the sight Tess screaming and finally passing out. Kyle and Valenti moved away from the others to check on Tess and they tried to wake her up.

Serena saw Khivar smirking and asked coldly, “What did you do to her? You’re a monster who should be put of his misery once and for all.”

Khivar raised a brow and said politely, “My dear, I assure you that I was doing you a favor by killing her. I mean in the last timeline she betrayed you all, and you wouldn’t want to keep a snake like that in your little circle, now would you? Besides, I think it’s justice that the little bitch died from brain damage when she did the exact same thing to Mr. Whitman there.”

Serena looked at him in disbelief and said angrily, “I find that funny coming from you. You, who slaughter thousands of people just to feed your ego to become king of Antar. How dare you speak of justice after everything that you’ve done? You killed my family and friends with your madness in obtaining the granolith, and then you tried to kill me. Well, I’m here to tell you that I won’t give up until you’re dead and I can dance on your grave.”

“While that may be your fondest wish, it won’t be happening today as you seem to be forgetting that you’re outnumbered. You have no one left to help you except Vilandra there, but she won’t help you. She wouldn’t dare trying to kill the father of her son now would she?” he smirked at her.

Isabel gasped as the words ‘the father of her son’ sunk in. “I don’t have a son or any children. What are you talking about?” she asked him.

He smiled at her and replied, “Why I’m talking about our son that we made together so many years ago. I’m a little disappointed that you could forget the special moment that we created our son. Well, that’s okay we can make new memories, but my dear, how could you forget Sebastian, our son?”

She looked at the younger man beside him and took in the blonde hair, green eyes that he got courtesy of his father and she tried to see if something of who she had been was in him. Sebastian smiled at her and said, “Hello Mother. I’m glad that Father finally decided to tell you who I am, and I hope that you will join us.”

“I don’t understand how this is possible. I don’t understand how you can be my son when you look to be the same age as me,” Isabel said.

Khivar sighed and told her impatiently, “We can discuss all that when you join us and hand over the granolith.”

Shaking her head she told him, “I’m sorry, but the answer is no.”

“No?! What do you mean no? Apparently you don’t understand the situation here anymore than your brother did, but I see that I’m going have to use the same tactics Josephine used on him to persuade you.”

Before anyone could do or say anything, another silver light covered them all and they looked in amazement at the sight of a portal opening up right next to them. A tall man with black hair and purple eyes stepped out of the portal. Serena gasped as she recognized him as her protector. ‘It can’t be possible that it’s Steven coming through a portal. There’s no way for him to get a portal unless a god or goddess opened one for him. This could be another trap,’ she thought to herself.

As if reading her mind, he told her “Pooh bear.” Seeing the confused look on her face, he explained, “I bought you a Pooh bear for your fifth birthday and even when you got older you kept him on your bed. I figured that you would know it was me if I told you that.”

“Steven, it is you! How in the world did you end up here, and I don’t understand how you remember something from another lifetime,” she told him.

“Well let’s just say I had some help in remembering things, but I’m here to get you all out of here.”

Hearing a clapping noise, the two turned to see Khivar sneering at them. “Really, this is touching in all, but you forgot one thing. You’re still outnumbered, and as it looks like no one wants to tell me where the granolith is, I’ll just have to torture the location out of you.” He turned to those behind them and instructed them, “Kill them all except Vilandra. I’m sure I can persuade her to see my way of thinking once we have had some time alone.”

Steven raised his hand and sent enough energy towards them to knock them to the ground. Throwing more energy blasts at them, he shouted to Serena and the others, “You have to go through the portal now. Go, and I will take care of them.”

Everyone nodded as they helped pick up Max, Michael, and Tess and started heading towards the portal. Khivar screamed in rage as he saw them getting away, and he ordered Sebastian and Josephine to take Steven down once and for all. Serena, hearing Khivar’s orders, moved to stand next to her old friend and started throwing what little energy she had left at them.

Isabel stopped as she got to the portal and kissed Alex on the cheek, telling him, “I can’t leave them behind to protect us by themselves. I have to help them.”

“Okay, but be careful Iz, and I’ll see you see,” he ordered her.

Nodding, she pushed him into the portal and hurried to help Steven and Serena. The three combined their powers and threw them at the advancing Skins: Sebastian, Josephine, and Nicholas. The combined power threw their enemies away from them and the three hurried to the closing portal. The portal closed behind them before anyone could stop them from getting through it.

Khivar looked around at all before him and said sarcastically, “Well isn’t this peachy. I want them found now and anymore disappointments will result in some unfortunate deaths. Do I make myself clear?”

All everyone could do was answer in the affirmative as they slowly got up and prepared to head back to base.

Chapter 9: Here Without You

*******************San Diego, 2001*********************

As Isabel, Steven, and Serena walked through the portal they ended up in a room that was all-too familiar to Serena. The portal closed behind them as they looked around and they saw that their friends were being taking care of. She saw that Max and Michael were both sitting up already, looking unharmed with everyone hovering around them. Seeing that her two brothers were alive and well, Isabel ran over to hug them. Serena smiled at the sight of the two boys being scolded by Isabel and she turned to see how Tess was doing. A woman with long silver hair was healing Tess, and the woman looked up as she felt someone watching her. Serena gasped as she recognized the woman to be Morganna healing Tess. Morganna smiled at her and went back to the healing.

‘So that’s how Steven was able to use a portal, but I thought she wasn’t able to interfere with the lives of mortals, and now I find her saving my friends,’ Serena thought to herself.

Soon Tess was moaning, and she sat up only to find herself being squeeze to death by Kyle. Valenti had pulled Kyle away from Tess in order to check up on her and to give her a hug as well.

Morganna dusted herself off and stood up to face the new arrivals. “Well, Steven, it looks like you got to them just in time. Would you mind telling the others to come on down so that we can discuss what’s been going on?” she asked him. He nodded at her and patted Serena’s shoulder in comfort before heading off to find the others. Morganna turned back to Serena and gently grabbed her arm, leading her to a couch. Once Serena got seated, Morganna held up her hand. “I know that you have a lot of questions and that you wonder why you’re in this particular house. I will answered them in a few seconds, but let’s wait until the others get here, okay?”

Serena looked at her for a minute and said, “Okay, I’ll wait until everyone is here, and I’m sorry about the way we last saw each other. I had no choice but to do what I did.”

“I understand, and I probably would have done the same thing, but next time can you not hit me so hard?” she said, rubbing her head.

The two looked at each other and laughed, while everyone else was checking on each other and just glad that they were all still alive. Footsteps were heard and everyone looked up to see that Steven had come back with three other people. There standing next to him were Erik, Sarah and Larek Winter. Serena stood up shakily, and as her parents smiled at her she ran to them. The three hugged as Sarah whispered, “My baby. My baby is finally home and I’m holding her in my arms.”

Serena held on and thought ‘I’m home. I’m finally home, but there’s so much I don’t understand.’

She pulled away and turned to Morganna. “I don’t understand how they know me or how anyone in here knows me.”

“Well that’s what I’m getting ready to tell you, so why doesn’t everyone have a seat so we can get figure out what’s going on.”

As the others got comfortable and sat down, Serena quickly took a seat with her parents. Morganna sat down next to Erik and she took a deep breath before she began her tale. “Serena, when you went back in time, let’s just say that the other gods were not pleased with you breaking their rules and tossing some of them into the wall. After I convinced them that you shouldn’t be hunted down and killed, I started looking for you in time. The only problem was that I noticed that things I remembered about you had changed, it was as if you no longer existed. I knew something was wrong when new memories started forming and you weren’t in them. I told Erik and we looked in time and found that someone had changed a lot of your past and was making a future far worse than the one you had just left.”

“It was Khivar wasn’t it? He’s the reason why things are so different and why Josephine is the way she, isn’t he?” Serena asked her.

“Yes. Apparently someone revived Khivar from your timeline and sent him back to this one to create chaos and to destroy you all, but that person failed to realize that I wasn’t going to let anything else happen to all of you. I was already too late to save Josephine as you call her, but I could forewarn the others about Khivar’s treachery. When Max used the orbs, I appeared before them after the message from their mother. I told them who I was and pretty much scared them to death, although I think Michael was watching me the whole time. Anyway after connecting with Max he believed me, and the others were called to the pod chamber where I told them who you were and to expect you sometime in the future, and also that they should beware of any strangers. From what I’ve seen in the past two years they have defeated every challenge that Khivar has thrown at them, and it is only recently that he brought Josephine in to kill them.”

Seeing the confused look on Serena’s face she asked her, “Is something wrong?”

“There’s one thing I don’t get. Okay, I understand that Khivar came back to change the past, but what happened to the Khivar of this time? I mean it’s like he has all the memories of the one from my time, and if I didn’t know any better I would say that it was him.”

“Khivar from your timeline and Khivar from this timeline are the one and the same. The two merged and became one entity with all the memories of the two timelines and the knowledge of how to destroy you all. The only thing he doesn’t know is where the granolith is, since neither Khivar ever knew that. He might have an inkling as to where it is, but he really doesn’t know the exact location, which is why he is so eager to get his hands on one of you,” Morganna said while looking at each person in turn, hoping that they understood what she was trying to tell them.

“I have a question. When Khivar was talking to me in my mind he showed me images of me killing Alex. Did I really do that in another timeline?” Tess asked. Everyone was quiet as they looked to Serena and Morganna to answer the question. They wondered what else happened in the last timeline that they didn’t know of.

Serena looked at Tess cuddled up next to Kyle and she looked to see the others cuddled up next to their significant counterparts. “How much do you know about the last timeline?” she asked them.

“We only know that things were really bad, and that we all died,” Max answered.

“That’s true. Each one of you died in the last timeline, and the first one to die was Alex. He was killed by Tess when she mindwarp him to keep him from telling the rest of you what she had done,” Serena said quietly.

“Oh god,” Tess sobbed and she turned her head in Kyle’s shirt.

“It wasn’t your fault. I found out at the last moment that Nicholas had mindwarped you into doing what you had done, and believe me he paid for what he did,” Serena coldly stated.

The others started speaking at once and asking questions. Morganna held up her hand for silence and everyone looked at her. “Okay, how about we do Q&A a little later, after everyone gets dressed and puts something hot in their tummies. Now Sarah and I have clothes for everyone and you will find a bedroom upstairs for you all with stuff, so off you go.”

Seeing that everyone was going to grumble, Sarah got up and started leading upstairs to show them the bathrooms and their rooms.

~An hour later

Isabel came downstairs and saw that she was the first one down. She walked around the house until she saw a sliding door that led to a deck. Walking out onto the deck, she stared out into the night wondering what else could possibly go wrong. Suddenly an arm wrapped around her waist and she leaned back to rest on the person’s chest. “So what are you doing out here all alone?” Alex asked her.

“I’m just wondering what else could go wrong tonight and if we are truly safe for the moment,” she told him. “I mean, so much has happened and then I find out I have a son with Khivar of all people. I just don’t know what to say about that, and I can’t believe we were fighting my son. What kind of mother am I?”

He turned her around to face him and cupped her face. “Hey, don’t beat yourself up over something that you didn’t know about. You couldn’t have known he was your son, and I’m sure once he gets over trying to kill us he will want to get to know us. Now promise me that you’re going to stop worrying for a few minutes, and I’m sure that when we’re all rested we will come up with something to get Sebastian away from Khivar. What you should be worrying about is what people are going to say if Sebastian makes you a grandma anytime soon.”

“Alex, I can’t believe you said that,” she laughed.

“Well, I’m just saying you’re too young and beautiful to be a grandma.”

“Beautiful, am I?”

“I like to think so, and I’m sure that a few guys at school agree with me.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned up for a kiss. He pulled her closer, and the two stood wrapped in each other arms, relaying their feelings to each other. After several minutes, the two pulled apart to get some much needed air and Alex reached down and clasped her hand. They walked back into the house and he led her to the sofa to sit down. Waiting until she sat down, he walked over to the entertainment theater where he went through the massive CD collection.

“Alex, are you sure you should be going through some else’s CDs?” she asked him.

“Well, I don’t think Sarah would mind since she said we could make ourselves at home, and I promise not to break or damage anything,” he said while continuing to look through the CDs. Finally finding something that looked familiar, he pulled it out and opened the case. Taking out the CD, he turned on and opened the CD player. He placed the CD in the player and pushed the number of the song that he wanted. Moving back towards her, he stopped in front of her as the song started playing. “Milady,” he said, offering her his hand. She smiled up at him and grasped his hand, allowing him to pull her up. They moved into the middle of the room and he twirled her around the room.

‘A hundred days have made me older
Since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have made me colder
And I don't think I can look at this the same
But all these miles that separate
Disappear now when I’m dreaming of your face’

He twirled her away and gently back to him. Laughing, she wrapped her arms around his neck and the two swayed, looking into each eyes.

While they were dancing the others had walked into the room. Seeing a perfect opportunity to hold her, Max smiled at Liz and held his hand out. She smiled back at him and took his hand, letting him lead her out to the middle of the room.

‘I'm here without you baby
But you're still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time’

Soon the two were wrapped up in each other as they danced around the room. Kyle and Michael looked at the two couples and glanced back at each other. Sighing, they offered their hands to the two girls standing next to them and led them out to the middle of the floor.

‘I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight it's only you and me’

Serena went downstairs, and looking around for the others she heard music softly playing. Curious, she followed the music until she came to the living room and a smile graced her face as she saw her friends dancing. She leaned on the doorway and watched them. Closing her eyes, she thought back to another night in another lifetime.

‘The miles just keep rollin’
As the people leave their way to say hello
I've heard this life was overrated
But I hope that it gets better as we go’

*flash*

~Serena is standing in a crowded ballroom and seems to be looking for someone. Someone taps her on the shoulder and she turns around to find Sebastian standing behind her.

~Serena and Sebastian dance around the ballroom, unaware of the stares that are directed towards them.

~The music stops and Sebastian leans down and kisses her.

*end flash*

‘I’m here without you baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time’

She opened her eyes and was surprised to find a tear sliding down her face. Quickly wiping it away, she turned away from her friends and headed to look for everyone else.

‘I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl it’s only you and me’

She walked to the kitchen and saw her parents, Sheriff Valenti, and Steven sitting at the table, talking. Sarah looked up, saw her and smiled. “Hey sleepyhead, it’s about time you woke up. Did you want something to eat?” she asked, starting to stand up.

Serena opened her mouth to say something and suddenly she felt a sharp pain in her side. She collapsed to the floor as another pain hit her body, but this time it was like something had squeezed her heart. The four adults got up from the table and rushed to her side. Larek moved Serena’s hands away and found a big patch of blood oozing out of her side.

“Oh my god, what’s happening to her?” Sarah asked.

“I don’t know, but I’m going to see if I can heal her,” he told her.

Placing his hands on the wound, he tried to connect to heal the angry wound, but after a few minutes he realized nothing was happening. He looked at his wife and said, “Nothing is happening. I can’t heal her, and I don’t know why.”

**************************

Khivar’s camp (a few minutes earlier)

‘Everything I know, and anywhere I go
It gets hard but it won’t take away my love’

A couple embraced tightly as they thought of the events that had happened that day. She pulled back a little and looked up into the familiar green eyes. Tracing his brow, she asked, “What did you think of her? Do you think there’s something to what she was saying?”

He looked at her brooding face and answered, “I don’t know if anything she said was true, but the question we should probably ask is why she and my father hate each other so much.”

“You’ve got a point there, Sebastian, but I doubt we’ll get an answer from either one of them anytime soon. I guess I should go before anyone comes looking for either of us.”

She pulled away from him and turned to leave, but stopped when he said, “I love you Josephine and I always will.”

‘And when the last one falls
When it's all said and done
It gets hard but it wont take away my love’

She walked back to him and told him, “I love you, too, Sebastian.”

Grinning wickedly at her, he gathered her in his arms and kissed her.

‘I'm here without you baby
But you're still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby’

The two were so caught up in the kiss that they failed to hear the door opening until it was too late. Josephine was suddenly pulled away from Sebastian and thrown into a wall. Sebastian looked in shocked to see his father standing in front of him and that he had thrown Josephine against a wall.

“Well, I’ve been betrayed again. I can’t believe I allowed that bitch to live and how does she repay me? By trying to take you away from me again. Well, I’ll fix that problem right now,” Khivar ranted.

Sebastian moved over to where Josephine lay unconscious and he leaned down and picked her up. He looked at Khivar and asked, “Why did you do that, and what do you mean you allowed her to live?”

Khivar looked at him and calmly replied, “She took you away from me the last time, but I see that it doesn’t matter how much I tried to change her, because she will always come between me and you. I see now what I must do to stop this once and for all.”

Sebastian carefully cradled Josephine in his arms and started moving slowly away from his father. “What do you mean you know now what you have to do?” he asked his father trying to distract him.

Khivar didn’t answer him, rather, he raised his hand and threw a blast at Sebastian and Josephine. The two slammed into a wall as Khivar walked over to them and looked at them with a peaceful expression on his face. Pain filled Sebastian’s head as he tried to clear his mind and decide how to get past his father. Before he knew it, Khivar was standing over them.

“May you find redemption for your betrayal on the other side. It’s a pity that you’re weak like your mother, but it doesn’t matter anymore,” Khivar told him. Raising his hand, he let his energy gathered and released the energy at Sebastian and Josephine. The last thing Sebastian heard was Josephine’s screams as the energy hit them.

The four adults watched in shock as Serena lurched up, screaming, while a white light covered her. Hearing the screams all the way in the living room, the six teens ran towards the kitchen and were stunned at the sight of what had happened to Serena.

“Oh Buddha, what the hell is happening to her?” Kyle asked.

As no one was saying anything, Valenti told his son, “We’re not sure what’s going on. She walked into the kitchen and next thing we knew she’d collapsed on the floor, bleeding. Larek tried to heal her, but it didn’t work. Before anyone could attempt anything else she was covered in a white light and screaming.”

Max slowly walked towards Serena and Liz told him, “Be careful.”

“I will be, but I have to see if I can help her.”

He stood in front of Serena and raised his hand to place it on the white light. Touching it, he screamed in pain as the light pushed him away from her and threw him across the room. “Max, are you okay?” Liz asked him as Alex helped him up.

“I’m fine, but I don’t know what that light is. When I touched it I felt her pain, and the next thing I know I’m taking flying lessons.”

“Well, Liz has always thought of you as Superman, you just enforced that thought,” Kyle said.

The others just looked at him while Liz blushed and Tess gave Kyle a threatening look.

Seeing everyone stare at him, he said, “Well, it’s the truth. I’m just saying what everyone else was thinking.”

Before anyone could say anything in response, Serena’s voice interrupted them. “I have to go now. Something is happening to her and him, and I have to help them.”

Sarah was shocked to see that the white light was gone just as quickly as it had arrived, but she didn’t like the way her daughter looked so pale.

“Who’s in trouble?” Larek asked Serena.

She turned eyes full of pain at him and said, “Josephine and Sebastian are both dying, and if I don’t help, neither one will live to see the morning.”

“Sebastian? Oh god, no, I just found him,” Isabel cried. Alex gathered her in his arms and tried to soothe her.

“They’re dying? How is that possible? We just saw them a few hours ago,” Steven said.

“Khivar attacked them a few minutes ago and right now they’re dying as he watches on.”

“How do you know this? How can you be so sure that this isn’t some trap?” Valenti asked.

“I know because she is me and I am her. As she makes new memories I receive them until they become my memories,” she told them.

“Maybe we should look at the positive. I mean two of our worst enemies are dying and Khivar no longer has them to help kill us,” Michael said.

Isabel pulled away from Alex and moved to yell in Michael’s face, “How can you say that? He’s your nephew, and if Josephine dies so does Serena. Have you thought about that?”

“He wasn’t thinking of familial ties when he tried to kill me, nor did Josephine hesitate to stab Maxwell,” he yelled at her.

Seeing that an argument was about to explode, Maria stepped between the two before any more harsh words could be said. She turned towards Michael and said, “You have to look at this from Isabel’s point of view about what’s going on. I know you think that we should let them die, but maybe if we save them then they will join our side.” Michael started to speak, but Maria held up her hand and said, “Just think about it, Spaceboy.”

Serena looked at her friends and family and committed them to memory. Knowing that she couldn’t wait any longer she said, “I have to go. I’m sorry for what I am about to do, but there’s no other way. Be safe. Be happy, and remember that together you can defeat anyone.”

Before anyone could say anything she closed her eyes and disappeared. Everyone looked stunned that Serena had just disappeared. Tess gasped as a thought occurred to her. “How exactly is Serena going to heal them? She doesn’t have healing powers at all, does she?”

Sarah, Larek and Steven looked at each other before looking at the others. “I’m not sure, but I can hazard a guess as to how she’s going to do it. She’s going to use the granolith to heal them,” Sarah told them.

A pin drop could be heard, that’s how quiet it was as everyone took in the realization of what Sarah had just told them.

“We’re fucked,” Michael said.

No one said anything as they all knew that Michael spoken the truth.

********************

Khivar looked on in glee as the bitch was finally dying. He was a little sad that his son had to die as well, but if that was the price to pay to finally be rid of her, then he would gladly pay it again.

He gave them one more look before leaving the room, not knowing that a figure had just materialized behind him. She walked towards the two figures and gently grasped their joined hands, closing her eyes. The three disappeared, and when she opened her eyes again it was to a familiar sight.

There, standing before her was the granolith in all its glory, pulsing gently as it greeted its old friend. Smiling, she stood up and raised her hand, revealing the royal seal. The granolith flared to life as it eagerly awaited instruction from the young woman. She concentrated, and soon a purple light spilled out of the granolith and covered the three people. Soon, the three were inside the granolith, and minutes rolled by as the granolith worked its magic.

Several minutes later, the granolith died down, and it released its occupants. The young man looked in shocked at the woman before him and asked, “Are you Serena or Josephine?”

She shook her long silver hair and it was black eyes that looked back at him. “I am both, and let it be known that those who wish us harm will pay.”

‘And I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby
But you're still with me in my dreams
and tonight girl it’s only you and me’

Chapter 10: “When I'm Gone"

~San Diego, CA

No one knew what to say or what to do as the situation seem to call for more than what they were used to handling. Like it or not Serena had left to save her past self and lover and was using the granolith to do it. Whether Serena would come back as herself was something none of them knew. For all they knew the granolith would now fall in the hands of Khivar who would relish to have the granolith once and all. These were the thoughts that ran through all of their minds as they stood in silence, shock, and fear of what had just happened. Suddenly a silver light covered them all as a portal opened up and Morganna and Erik walked through. Morganna looked at the faces before her and knew that what she felt earlier was indeed the granolith being used.

“She’s gone isn’t she,” she asked them.

“Yes she said that Josephine and Sebastian were dying and that she had to save them,” Sara told her while holding onto Larek. “We think that she’s using the granolith to save them, but we’re not sure.”

“It’s true. I felt the granolith being used earlier so it had to have been her. What I don’t understand is why no one felt that they couldn’t have called me to come down here and save her. Instead of doing that you let her walk out of here and go use the granolith and there’s no telling what she’ll be like when she gets back.”

“Excuse me, but we didn’t allow her to do anything. She basically told us what she was going to do and she left. The question you should be asking yourself is where were you when she was using the granolith? If you felt it being used why didn’t you go and stop her? Why did you let my daughter leave,” Sara shouted at her.

Morganna opened her mouth to reply but Sara interrupted her. “You know what I don’t want to hear it. Don’t even talk to me anymore.” Turning to her husband she told him, “I’ll be upstairs lying down. Right now I don’t feel up to dealing with present company. When all of you come up with a plan to rescue Serena come get me okay,” she told him. Larek nodded and leaned down to kiss her softly on the forehead and whispered, “We’ll get her back. Now go rest and I’ll bring you some tea up in a few.”

Nodding she said her goodbyes to everyone and left the kitchen as everyone watched her leave. Larek turned to Morganna and asked her, “Can’t you go to the granolith and check on her. I mean just open a portal and go see what has happened to her and the others.”

“I wish I could, but as of now the granolith no longer responds to me. Plus I can’t get a portal to open in the granolith chamber as it seems its blocking all my attempts to do so,” she told him.

Max upon hearing that asked, “How can the granolith not respond to you? You told me that you created the granolith, so I’m a little confused as how something you created doesn’t respond to you anymore.”

“I did create the granolith, but whatever Serena has done she’s gained its loyalty and power. She now controls the granolith and what it does. Heck I’m not even sure if it would respond to the royal seal on your hand.”

“What do you mean she has gained its loyalty? You’re talking as if the granolith is a living breathing thing,” Max told her.

“Oh but it is. There’s more to the granolith than you know. The granolith has what do you call it, oh yes artificial intelligence and to a point it has feelings as well.”

Everyone looked at her in shock at what she had just revealed to them. Seeing the stunned look on their faces she sighed as she knew that she would now have to tell them more about the granolith and what had happened before. ‘Everything would have been so great if Khivar hadn’t come back in time and screw things up. If I could get my hands on the idiot who brought him back to life I would put a hurting on them.’ Coming out her musings she told them, “maybe we should all go sit down and I can answer any questions that you may have.”
Turning she headed towards the living room with everyone following her quietly. It was like a funeral procession as no one spoke and all of them thought about what life really meant to them. Quickly finding seats they all turned to Morganna ready to hear once and for all what had happened in that other life. Morganna played with the hem of her dress for a minute or two as she felt a little unnerved with the task that she had set for herself, and it wasn’t helping that she had ten people staring at her as if she had the answers to that age old question, ‘what’s the meaning to life.’ Erik who had been watching everyone turned to look at Morganna sitting quietly next to him. Seeing her play with her dress he knew that she was nervous about telling those before her about their past lives. He leaned down and said quietly, “you know that I can just take everyone to the Hall and show them what happened by using the water of Truth.”

She smiled at him and said, “No it’s okay I can do this. I’m just a little weary of what they’ll think when they find out what happened. I’ve already told Max a few things when we first met, but there’s a lot he doesn’t know. I guess I better tell them all I know because we have no idea as to what Serena will be like when she comes back. Still I thank you for offering to do that to for me.”

“Anytime,” he told her with a wink.

Laughing at him she turned back to the others and cleared her throat. Having got everyone’s attention she said, “There’s a lot you don’t know and some things you do. Two lifetimes have ended the same way with the destruction of Earth and the death of everyone in this room. For these two lifetimes a few of you have been sent back in time to change what went wrong. This last time Serena came back to fix it once and for all. As the first timeline no longer exists and has no real consequences on what has happened today you don’t need to know much about it. It is the second timeline that we may find the solution to our problem.”

“You know I’m a Buddhist and I really didn’t understand any of what you just said,” Kyle said looking slightly confused. Everyone laughed at his expression and Morganna smiled at him.

“You make a good point, so I guess I should just spit it out as you mortals say. Everything that has happened to the eight of you and Mr. Valenti up until yesterday has happened before. Everything from Nacedo being killed, to meeting Courtney and Nicholas, facing down Skins, and saving the Earth from the grandium has happened before. Still there are a lot of differences as well as to how you faced these problems and solved them. The main difference is that the eight of you are now a unit and are bonded as friends and family. That was a major problem in the timeline as the group was filled with deception, mistrust, anger and sadness.”

She stopped and watched what she had just said sink into their subconscious. “Get comfortable for what I’m about to tell you isn’t pretty or has a happy ending as I’m sure you can guess.”

“Hey as long as this story doesn’t have Courtney the dusk bimbo getting Michael I can listen to it,” Maria told her. “I mean does anyone notice that she’s like in every timeline we’ve heard about.”

Everyone shouted, “Maria!”

“What? I’m just saying I can listen to the story as long as it doesn’t have her in it.”

Morganna laughed and said, “No, Maria this story doesn’t concern the dusk bimbo.” Getting her laughter under control she opened her mouth to continue the tale of how things had gone so wrong.

***********Granolith Chamber******************

He looked at the woman before him with the long silver hair and midnight eyes and wondered what the hell was going on. First his father had gone mad and tried to kill him and Josephine. He still wasn’t sure what had set him off, but he was pretty sure it had something to do with Josephine and him being together. While he had been raised to think of Josephine as his sister he never could accept that notion for when he first laid eyes on her he knew that she was his very reason to live and breathe. She was as Shakespeare would say beauty and no other name. Something about her had called to him and as the years came and went he still felt as if he should be with her. Shaking his head he figured that he would be better off thinking about what was going on now instead of writing sonnets about his lady love. He watched her pace around the chamber looking deep in thought.

“Josephine,” he called out to her. Still she kept pacing as if she didn’t recognize the name. Determine to get her attention he called out, “Serena.” She stopped pacing and looked at him questioningly.

“Serena what’s going on,” he asked. “I don’t understand why you look so different and why my father tried to kill us.”

“Well I look different as my present self and my future self have merged and the granolith played with our DNA as well. You see I’m no longer half immortal and half Antarian rather I am one hundred percent immortal as my mother before me and my grandmother and so on. The power of the gods is mine and the granolith has given it to me. As for your father trying to kill us that will be dealt with shortly. Oh how he shall pay for all that he has done.”

“What do you mean you’re immortal and that your mom is one? And what do you mean my father shall pay?”

“The granolith has given me a lot of information and that was a piece of it, and yes Khivar will pay for all that he has done in this lifetime and the last. I once told you in another time that I would allow others to be his executor and judge, but no more for he’s going to pay. What I don’t understand is how Khivar from my lifetime got here and who sent him. The granolith didn’t know that, but I’m sure I can persuade Khivar to tell me before I send him to his doom.”

“Serena, you can’t go around murdering people for things that they did in another life,” he told her.

She threw up her hand and threw him against the chamber wall and told him with menace, “oh but I can.”

Chapter 11: The Reason

~San Diego, CA

The tension in the room was so thick that even a knife couldn’t have cut through it. Words had been exchange as well as looks of betrayal, and some people had moved away from others. Liz was now sitting next to Kyle, Tess was sitting in the loveseat by herself, and Alex was sitting on the floor a little bit away from Isabel and Max was sitting on the sofa next to Sheriff Valenti. The eight had been hurt by what they had done in the past but as Morganna looked at the group she could only hope that the rest of the story would bring them back together. So far she had told them about Alex being mindwarped which resulted in his death, Tess being pregnant by Max, Isabel marrying Jesse Ramirez, and Maria going to New York with some guy named Billy. Michael hearing that had got up and stormed off towards the kitchen with Maria right behind them. ‘Well at least they’re talking it out unlike everyone else in here,’ she thought to herself. Hearing a crash from the kitchen she winced and thought that maybe it was a good thing the others hadn’t gone off to talk. A second later Maria and Michael came back and sat down on the other sofa next to Larek.

“Did we miss anything else while we were gone,” Michael asked.

“Just that Tess came back with little Zan and that her ship had crashed which caught the attention of the Army. Later on she blew up the base and killed herself which brought the Army to Roswell to look for the three of you. All six of you took off in a van escaping the Army before they swooped in and captured all of you. Liz and Max got marry at this little church while you guys were on the run,” she said while noticing the looks between Max and Liz upon hearing of their marriage. Smiling she continued her tale, “well for two years the six of you drove aimlessly and stayed at little of the way places hoping the military wouldn’t find you. Finally around October of 2004 the six of you set up house in a small place in Los Angeles and that’s when the real story begins. One thing you have to understand is that there were two couples and two single people who had no one else to talk to or understand them except each other, and even then there’s only so much a person can tell someone. Also Khivar hadn’t given up on getting Isabel back despite her sending him back that last time. Over the past few years he had been dream walking her to seduce her back to him. He used every method of seduction that he could think of, but nothing was working. She was fighting every night and at times she was afraid to go to sleep. Soon he came up with a new tactic to win her, and instead of letting her know that he was in her dreams he would stay in the background and try to see what could seduce her back to him. One night on his numerous dream walks he finally found what she wanted most of all.” Morganna paused to see if they were with her so far and she found them all staring at her waiting. “It started like any other dream that he had been in except this time he found her dream self sitting in a pale blue room sitting in a rocking chair humming softly to a little bundle. Creeping up unaware he peeked and saw a little human child sucking its thumb contently and falling asleep. She kept humming to the little one as Khivar stood in the shadows making his plans. He knew then that her weakness was her family and her yearning for a child, so he decided to send Sebastian to Earth to bring her back to Antar.

Using the granolith it only took a few hours to get there and soon Sebastian had charmed Isabel into thinking he was her friend. She begin changing the more she hung out with him and the rest of you started to noticed it. There were arguments between Max, Michael, and her about Sebastian. They felt that there was something wrong with him and that he wasn’t who he said he was. By then Isabel had begun to develop those maternal instincts and they were in full force and she refused to stop seeing Sebastian. Now a month and a half had gone by and she still didn’t know her relationship to Sebastian. A few weeks before Christmas he revealed that he was her son and after making a connection with him she believed what he told her. She no longer thought of herself as Isabel rather the persona Vilandra had taken over her completely. Seeing that she had become Vilandra he asked her to come back to Antar with him and take her rightful place next to his father. She agreed and went back home to pack her bags and leave letters for the five of you and she left. Meeting Sebastian at the assigned place and the two waited for the portal to open up. Now Maria had come earlier than usual that day and found the letters. After reading hers she called the rest of you and you all rushed to stop her. Time you got to the park the portal had just opened up and they were getting ready to enter.” Morganna paused and rubbed her throat. “All this talking is hard work and making me thirsty. Maybe it would be better if I show the rest of the story to you.”

Everyone looked at her questioningly and Max asked, “How are you going to show us?”

“It’s really simple. I just need everyone to join hands and clear your mind of all thoughts,” she told them.

Wanting to know the rest of the story they all clasped hands and waited to know what else they had to do. She clasped one hand with Erik and took Alex’s hand as he was the closet to her. Closing her eyes she concentrated and soon the vision hit them.

*flash*

The van screeched to a halt as Max stopped as quickly as he could. Everyone got out and hurried to the clearing and stopped in their tracks at the sight of the portal in front of them. Seeing Isabel and Sebastian about to go into the portal Max and Michael hurried to stop them. “Iz! Iz don’t go in that portal,” Max yelled. Hearing her former name she turned to them and they gasped as they took in the black eyes and knew that they were dealing with Vilandra. She smiled at them and said, “Hello brother dear. How nice of you and Rath here to see me off. Was there something you needed before I left?”

“You can’t go back with him. He lied to you the whole time while he was here, so how do you know he isn’t lying about being your son. Come on and think about this. I mean how can he be your son if he’s the same age as you,” Michael pleaded.

“How dare you?! He’s my son and I know that he is. I don’t need your permission to go anywhere. Isabel might have been afraid of you, but I am not she I am Vilandra.”

Max moved a little closer to her and told her, “Look at you. You’re referring to yourself as Vilandra, but you are Isabel. Vilandra died over fifty years ago and sure you might have her memories, but you’re not her. Please just step away from the portal and come back with us.”

“My mother has heard enough of your begging. She has decided to go back with me so get over it already,” Sebastian argued.

“She isn’t your mother. For God sake you’re the same fucking age she is,” Michael yelled.

Isabel put up her hand and threw Michael to the ground. “Don’t you dare talk to my son like that or next time I’ll kill you. Now enough of your talking because my mind is made up and I’m leaving so get over it already.”

“Iz, I can’t allow you to leave with him,” Max said.

She raised an eyebrow in amusement and asked, “Allow me? Since when have you been in control of me little brother? You have no control of me and now we’re leaving.” She turned to Sebastian and offered her his arm and the two started making their way towards the portal. Max and Michael both moved to stop them when a blast hit both of them and they fell to the ground. Liz, Maria, and Kyle moved to help them up when a voice stopped them cold. “Well, well we meet up again, and look I see you have the little humans with you again.” Everyone turned to see a teenager with dark hair and dark eyes come out from the shrubs and behind him were at least ten people. Liz’s eyes widened as she got a look at the teenager and she told the others, “oh no it’s Nicholas. I don’t understand how he’s alive. I thought he was dead, but then again Tess was the one who was supposed to have killed him.”

Nicholas smirked at her and moved in front of her. “Why I’m flattered that you remember who I am. It’s going to be a pleasure getting reacquainted I’m sure.” Liz shuddered and moved away from him pulling Maria with her. Seeing her response he just smiled even more at her and turned his attention to Max and Michael lying on the ground. “My how the mighty have fallen. Khivar will be pleased to have Zan and Rath as prisoners, and once the rebels see their precious king chained up in a dungeon they will have no choice but to surrender.” Turning to some of the men behind him he ordered them to pick up Max and Michael and when Maria, Liz, and Kyle tried to put up a fight they were knocked unconscious. Nicholas turned to Sebastian with a smile and leered at Vilandra. “Well what are we waiting for? I’m ready to get out of this damn skin and get back to my former handsome self. Now unless we’re waiting for the Mad Hatter and Alice I say we should go ahead and leave now.”

Sebastian and Vilandra entered the portal with Nicholas behind them and the other Skins carrying the five unconscious people. The portal closed with behind them with a wink and soon they were standing in a throne room of sorts. The room was filled with people some that looked humanoid and others that were shape shifters and some that words can’t even describe. They all were dress in formal wear with black being the color of the hour and music played softly in the background. Sebastian and Vilandra walked down the room until they came where two silver thrones rested. Sitting on one of these thrones was a man with blonde hair and cold green eyes. He stood up and moved to stand in front of Vilandra and held out his hand. She gave a small curtsey and took his hand and he led her to one of the thrones. Sitting on the throne next to her he smiled at her and nodded at Sebastian who nodded back and moved to stand to the side. Nicholas moved to the two thrones and bowed. Standing up he waved at the five unconscious people that had disposed of on the floor and said, “I’ve brought the two hybrids that have the essence of Zan and Rath in them, and I brought three humans as well. They are yours to do with my brother.” He bowed again and waited.

Khivar smiled at the sight before him and told Nicholas, “you have done well although I think Sebastian gets more of the credit for making the plan work. Finally I have the last of the Royal Four and no one can save them now. Wake them! I want Zan on his feet when I declare his death sentence to him.”

The courtiers gasped as they learned the identity of the two men lying on the floor unconscious and they wondered who the three humans were and why they were there. Nicholas snapped his hand at the Skins behind him, “wake them now.” They moved over the five and sent a shock blast at them which caused them to wake up screaming in pain. Seeing that they were woke the Skins moved out of the way as they weren’t sure what Nicholas planned to do next. The five friends gasped and stood up and looked around in shock. Khivar smirked as he took in their appearances and said, “Welcome to Antar. You’ve traveled so far only to meet your death. Guards take them to the dungeon to await their execution.” Guards rushed over to grab them and they all put up a fight. The courtiers whispered among themselves as they looked on the scene before. Before anyone could do anything a voice called out, “the Princess of Belladonna has arrived with her guard.” Everyone turned to see two tall shape shifters standing around a young woman with long black hair and gray eyes. Unlike the other women of the court she was dressed in all white instead of the black the others favored. The three people walked down the aisle and stopped at the thrones. The shape shifters bowed while the woman nodded her head. Khivar narrowed his eyes at her motions and said, “Well if it isn’t the daughter of Larek. I’m assuming there is a reason for your visit.”

“My lord Khivar my father sends his greetings and wishes that all is well with you. Word has reached us that you have in your custody the rest of the Royal Four and a few humans as well. My father requests that these people be sent to Belladonna as he fears that they will not be safe here,” she told him.

“What makes your father believes that I’ll give him my prisoners,” he snarled at her.

“I was only told to tell you to hand over the prisoners or prepare for war.”

“Are you threatening me? How dare you?!”

“My lord that is not a threat rather a promise and my father has told me to remind you of the international law code number 3004. All political prisoners whose crimes are against more than one planet must be judge in the international court of justice. Also these prisoners may not be held in custody of those that seek retribution from them.”

“You dare speak the law to me! That law is anarchic and is no longer in effect.”

“Oh but it is in effect. This law was never repelled or veto and as such the law is the law.”

“The law does not apply to me as these prisoners crimes are against Antar alone.”

“I’m sorry to tell you, but three other planets have brought charges against the hybrids that have the essences of King Zan, General Rath, and the Princess Vilandra.”

Knowing that there was no way around the law at that moment he told her, “you may take the prisoners Zan and Rath, but Vilandra and the humans stay with me.”

“Vilandra may stay here if that is her wish, but the humans are coming with me. There are no other humans on this planet, but on Belladonna there are a few including my mother.”

He smiled coldly at her and nodded. “You may take them then, but in one week there will be ball held here and negotiations about peace.”

“My family looks forward to attending and now I must leave. Have a good day my lord,” she nodded.

Khivar nodded at her and told the guards to release the prisoners. She turned to leave when Sebastian stepped in her way. She looked at him curiously and asked, “May I help you.”

“I will help you take the prisoners to your ship lady,” he paused waiting to get her name.

“My name is Serena and my protectors and I are fine, but thank you anyway,” she smiled at him and turned back to help the others. He smiled and stared at her as she and her protectors left with the others. Khivar narrowed his eyes at the sight of his son smiling at Serena. ‘I’m going have to put a stop to that before anything comes out of it.’

****the flashes change to show everyone getting on a large ship and everyone asking questions, but Serena wouldn’t answer them. Soon the ship landed on another planet and at the dock they were greeted by an older man and woman. Serena introduced them as her parents and introductions were made around. They all headed to a huge building that reminded them of a castle and everyone was sent to rooms to rest and change. A few hours later they all met up to have dinner and the five travelers were shock to see a familiar person already sitting at the table. There at the table sat their friend Alex Whitman and even though he looked older and had bulked up some they still recognized him. He stood up out of his chair and held his arms opened and Maria and Liz ran into them. The three friends stood like that for several minutes until Maria pulled back and hit him on the shoulder. “How is it that you’re alive? Damn it we thought you were dead and here you are standing here. What the hell is going on?”

Liz turned to Serena and looked at her. “It was you wasn’t it? I’m not sure how you did it, but for some reason I know it had to be you as soon as I saw Alex and remembered your name.”

Maria looked at her confused, “what are you talking about? How do you know it was her and what does her name has to do with it?”

“She’s Serena…the Serena that Future Max told me about. She has to be the person he was talking about.”

“That’s the Parker I know. Always using that brain,” Alex joked. He grew serious and told her, “If Serena hadn’t saved me then I wouldn’t be standing with you guys right now. She used the granolith to save me and I’ve been here for about a year.”

“I don’t care how she did, but I’m so glad that she did. I wish Isabel was here to see you,” Kyle told him.

Alex’s smile faltered, “me too. I hope I get to meet Khivar soon so I can kick his ass. He has a lot to answer for.”

The six friends now reunited sat down to dinner and talked about what had happened since the last time they had seen each other. Serena and her parents joined them and answered questions as well. A week came and went and the friends’ relationship became stronger as they became more determine to get back home and rescue Isabel. While they were doing that Serena had been secretly meeting Sebastian on and off for that week. They thought no one knew what was going on, but Khivar had someone following Sebastian who reported what he found. Khivar soon saw the changes in his son and was anger at what Serena had done. He plotted to take her down along with the others. On what was the Earth holiday Christmas Eve all in the galaxy and on the five planets were invited to Antar to talk about peace. The friends had exchanged gifts before leaving for the peace conference and it was decided that Alex and Steven would stay on the ship to monitor the party/conference incase anything would go wrong. Alex argued that he should go, but everyone told him that they would bring Isabel back to him and plus as angry as he was he might go after Khivar. Finally after much yelling he agreed to wait on the ship as backup incase they needed him. They arrived on Antar and soon saw that all the leaders of the galaxy had gathered here for the peace conference. Khivar greeted everyone with Vilandra and Sebastian on his side and Liz pointed out that Vilandra’s eyes had turned back to the brown color of her human self. They all wondered about it, but were distracted by the performances. Music played and everyone started dancing barely aware of Khivar leaving the ballroom with Vilandra and Nicholas. Sebastian had left, but snuck back and asked Serena for a dance. While the two circled the floor they were unaware of the looks directed at them. Hours went by as everyone danced and ate from the buffets that had been set up. One by one Max, Liz, Michael, Maria, and Kyle had disappeared and Serena didn’t notice until it was too late. A great light hit the ball room and the last thing she saw was her parents falling down and Sebastian’s face in front of her.

*****the flashes changed to show Khivar tricking Max out of his royal seal and him using the granolith to it’s full power. Khivar commanded the granolith to destroy all in the ballroom and a blue light surged from it and went to the ballroom. The gang was horrified at was going on and then they died one by one at Khivar and Nicholas’s hands. Before long Serena and Sebastian arrived in the room and a fight broke out between them and Khivar and Nicholas. A few minutes later Vilandra entered and she tried to kill Khivar only for him to tell Nicholas to finish her off. She was saved by Alex and Steven. There was a brief reunion between the two before they too were killed with Steven. By then Nicholas had been killed by the granolith and Serena was thought to be dead. An argument broke out between Khivar and Sebastian and Khivar ordered the granolith to kill him only for Serena to have popped back up and save him. All too soon Sebastian died protecting Serena and it was just Serena and Khivar. The battle between those two was long and hard with Serena finally killing him. The flashes slowed down and the last thing everyone saw was Serena entering the granolith. **********

~present

Morganna opened her eyes and took a deep breath and released Alex’s hand. Everyone opened their eyes and looked at each other in stunned silence. “Now you know what has happened in the last timeline and how important it is to defeat Khivar once and for all,” she told them.

“How are we going to defeat him? I mean the last time Serena was the one to kill him, and we still don’t know who brought him back to life,” Max asked.

“Plus we don’t what happened to Serena. For all we know she could have gone to the dark side,” Michael argued.

Before Morganna could reply Sara rushed into the room. “Larek, you have to turn the television now. Oh my God, I don’t know what we’re going to do now.”

“Sara what’s the problem? Just calm down and tell us,” Larek told her.

Ignoring him she moved to the entertainment system and turned off the radio that had been playing. Grabbing the remote she turned the television on and flipped through the channels until she got to C-SPAN. Everyone looked and what they saw caused a few of them to curse, pale, and just stare. There on the television was a live broadcast from Roswell, New Mexico and the reporter was saying, ‘I’m here in Roswell where mysterious symbols have appeared in the sky causing residents to say that the aliens are coming back.’ The camera moved to show a series of light blue symbols shining clearly in the night sky. One of the symbols was the whirlwind symbol and the camera went back on the reporter who started talking about the Crash of 47.’

“What the hell is going on? One of those symbols is the whirlwind symbol for our home, but I don’t understand the others,” Michael angrily pushed his fingers through his hair.

“The other symbols basically read to say, ‘I have what you seek so if you want it then meet me in a few hours. Follow the stars to find your way.’ It looks like Serena is alive and well and is challenging Khivar,” Morganna told them.

There were a few more curse words from the group and Isabel asked the question that was on everyone’s mind. “Does this mean she’s on our side?”

“I don’t know whose side she’s on. We have no idea as to what’s going on with her and I can’t get into the granolith chamber.”

Suddenly a white light covered the room as a portal opened up and a figured fell on the floor. Everyone rushed over to see who it was and turned the figured over shocked to see Sebastian. He pushed their hands away and stood up.

“What are you doing here, and where’s Serena,” Valenti asked before the others could say anything.

“She’s with the granolith and she’s plotting to kill my father,” Sebastian gasped.

“So what’s the problem,” Kyle asked.

“You don’t understand. She isn’t the Serena you know she’s change. I mean her hair is silver and her eyes are black and she almost tried to kill me, but at the last minute she threw into this portal.”

“Did you say silver hair and black eyes,” Morganna demanded.

“Yeah she said something about her DNA changing.”

Morganna cursed and the others looked worriedly.

“We got a serious problem.”

AN: Well I sat down and was like screw it I’m not even going to stretch this out into two more chapters, so here’s the conclusion. Tomorrow I’ll have the epilogue to this and hopefully none of you reading this will be out to hurt me. I blame the muse for it all so send all complaints to her. I’m not sure if I’ll ever write another heavily sci-fi story like this again as this one didn’t really get any type of response to it. Maybe I’ll stick to fluffy goodness and the occasional angst filled story as most people seem to like my fluffy goodness better then this one. *shrugs* Hmm I’m not even sure if I even want to write anymore as it doesn’t even seem worth the time, but I really do love writing so who knows.

I guess I’m feeling nostalgia as this is the first story I’ve ever written for Roswell and I’m sad to see it go. I’ve always been intrigued by the granolith and what its purpose was. Also I wondered how this mysterious Serena was able to modify it to make time travel possible. That’s pretty much got me to thinking and what you’re reading is the result of that. I’ve read so many great fics that dealt with the granolith and its origins or just had a kick ass sci-fi premise. So thanks to Kath7 for the Out of the Woods trilogy, Dee for Yours, WR for the Importance of Elizabeth, Angel for Happenstance, Aftermath by Breathless, and finally Cherie for A Carnival of Souls. Each of these stories influenced me when I sat down and wrote this. Thanks so much and hopefully ‘Nothing at All’ didn’t do so such a bad job dealing with the sci-fi elements and the mythology. Thanks for reading.

Also one of the scenes below was inspired by the movie Independence Day and copyright infringement is not intended.

Chapter 12: Changes

Granolith Chamber

The granolith hummed as it awaited further instructions from the young woman who paced restlessly in front of it. Silver hair swayed as she continued to pace and ponder what was to happen in a few hours. Tonight she would meet her enemy heads on and finally she would get the revenge that was owed to her for two timelines. ‘I have lost so much and even now I could lose it all if I don’t play this out right. Still I know I’m missing something or rather someone. Who could have brought Khivar back to life and sent him here? Only the granolith can bring people that are nearly dead back to life, but wait a minute Khivar was dead when I killed him. The only person that could have brought him back to life was a god or an extremely powerful healer. It had have been a god or should I say goddess that did it. But who hates me so much that they would risk the end of the world by giving him life again?’ She continued to pace around the chamber as her mind tried to sort out what she knew in this timeline from what she remembered about the other two. So many memories were crowded in her mind that at times it was hard to remember what happened when. Suddenly she whirled to face the granolith in excitement and said, “Show me my family tree please.” An image formed inside the granolith and Serena leaned closer to read what it said and an idea formed in her mind. “She had to be the one to bring him back to life. No one else has the motive to do it. Granolith it is time that we reveal ourselves to the world once and for all.” A blue light spilled out of the granolith and the earth belong her feet shook as the granolith went to work. The chamber’s wall collapsed around her and soon she and the granolith were out in the open air. Anyone witnessing the event would have seen the mountain spill open and rocks sliding down as the granolith now rested in plain sight for all to see at the top.

“Now light the way for Khivar for to find his way here,” she commanded. Light gathered inside the granolith and finally it shot it out in the night sky lighting up a path that all could see. “Tonight will be the end once and for all.”

*****meanwhile…….

“What do you mean we got a problem? What could be worst than what’s going on now,” Max asked Morganna.

“Well if what Sebastian told me is correct then Serena has now become immortal, but it doesn’t sound as if the granolith finished the process,” she told them.

“Wait a minute what do you mean she’s immortal? And why didn’t the granolith finished the process,” Larek asked before Max could open his mouth again.

“Serena was already half immortal to begin with. I guess you could compare her to the mythical Hercules of ancient time. She wasn’t meant to live forever, but her powers were those of the gods and she wasn’t born with the royal seal by accident. I gave her the royal seal when she was born as I was pretty much sure that she would need it, but I didn’t think the seal would become as big of a burden as it has become.”

“As fascinating as this is what does this has to do with the granolith changing her,” Larek interrupted.

“What I was going to say before I was so rudely interrupted is that her powers are now unlimited and that if she has gone to the dark side as Michael refers to it then there will be no stopping her. Also the fact that her eyes are now black rather the gray that they should be worries me. Her eyes being black can only mean that she and the granolith are bonding rather they are becoming one. The granolith could be using her for its own means and controlling her.”

“Why would the granolith try to control her,” Liz asked.

“I don’t know. I created the granolith, but over the eons it has created its own unique personality. Still I could be wrong and it’s not using Serena.”

“Okay so we’re not only dealing with a madman and the dandruff squad, but we might have to deal with Serena and a wacko machine? Why does this always happen to us,” Kyle groaned.

“The dandruff squad,” Tess asked.

“He means the Skins,” Alex grinned at her.

“Yeah Tess get with the lingo,” Kyle teased her.

She wrinkled her nose at him, “only the two of you would actually get that. You guys are so weird.”

Everyone laughed at her expression and the room was temporarily lightened up for a moment as they forgot their worries. Sarah gasped as she caught sight of the news update. The others turned to see what else had happened. She grabbed the remote and turned the sound up louder as the reported began to speak again. ‘Not too long ago the sky was lit up with blue symbols that residents swore had to be a sign that the aliens were coming. Well only a few minutes ago we got a report of a mild earthquake and our news chopper caught sight of a mountain blowing up to reveal some kind of machine and a woman standing in front of it. Soon after a white light shot out of the machine and is now covering the sky as we speak. Police have told us to tell residents to please stay in their homes and to wait for further instructions. The National Guard has been called and the Army is on its way to the sight as we speak. Has intelligent life come to Earth or is this some kind of prank? Stay tune for more details.’ The newscast switched to a commercial and everyone looked at each other in shock.

“Why did she bring the granolith out in the opening? Is she trying to get us all captured by the government,” Michael yelled.

“You need to calm down. This isn’t helping us at all and it might be a good idea if we get back to Roswell as soon as possible,” Max told everyone.

“Okay so everyone get what they need and I’ll open the portal to Roswell. Um where do you guys want to land at,” Morganna asked.

“Maybe we should go to the Valenti’s house and get ourselves together first. Also I’m sure my mom and dad is looking for me,” Liz grimaced.

“Please if anyone should worry it’s me. I mean my mom is probably out hunting for me,” Maria groaned. “I can just imagine the scenarios she’s come up with.”

“Yeah I think you all need to call your parents and tell them that you’re spending the night at my house. I guess we can say Kyle’s having a huge slumber party and that some of my friends from out of town are chaperoning it,” Valenti suggested.

“Do we have to call it a slumber party,” Kyle whined. “I mean I think I’m a little too old to be having slumber parties and what guy do you know has slumber parties.”

“Hey! I had slumber parties with Liz and Maria,” Alex protested.

“Fine son we’ll tell them Tess is having a slumber party,” Valenti smiled at him.

Morganna shook her head and tried not to smile at the sign of relief on Kyle’s face. Pointing her hand towards the wall she a portal opened up and everyone started going through. Isabel who was holding hands with Alex noted the sad look on Sebastian’s face and she reached back and grabbed his hand. He looked at her in surprised and she smiled at him. Hesitantly smiling back he squeezed her hand lightly and held on as the three of them walked through the portal together. Michael narrowed his eyes at the sight, but was soon distracted when Maria asked him a question. Morganna started walking through the portal, but Erik stopped her. She looked at him curiously and he told her, “I have to go check on our world and make sure nothing is going on. I got a bad feeling that what Serena is doing down here might cause trouble up there.”

“Good idea. Go ahead and I’ll see you later,” she told him as she leaned up to kiss him.

Pulling away he turned away and waited until she went into the portal before he opened his own.

“I hope they all make it tonight,” he whispered.

The portal opened and everyone stepped out to find themselves standing in the Valenti’s living room. Happy to be back in Roswell everyone started chattering and pulling out phones to call their parents. Sarah looked at the teenagers before her and sighed. ‘So much depends upon them. It’s such a heavy burden to ask of them to defend their world and the lives of billions of people. Still I got a feeling that this group can do what else no one will be able to do.’ She started as she felt arms wrapped around her and smiled at her husband who held her. “I guess I better go see if I can find something for us to eat and drink. Who knows how long this battle is going to take? It’s better to fight with a full stomach then an empty one,” she patted his arm and moved out of his embrace. He watched her go up to Valenti who lead her to a room which had to be the kitchen. Feeling someone next to him he looked to see Steven next to them. “Do you think we’re going to see the next day,” Steven asked.

“I can only pray that we do,” Larek replied.

Steve nodded and the two stood in silence as they thought of what was to come next. Soon Sarah and Valenti came back with trays containing sandwiches and drinks and everyone having finished making calls came to sit down. Passing plates and cups around they all chattered quietly while eating. Too soon the food was gone and everyone turned to look between Morganna and Max. “I guess we better start coming up with some kind of plan soon because we don’t know how long before Khivar and Serena meet,” Michael suggested.

“I got a question actually before we get to that. How are we going to get past the army and the National Guard,” Maria asked.

“I’ll take care of the military and the media which means that I might not make it back in time to help with fighting the Skins,” Morganna told her.

“Okay so we need to get past the Skins in order to get to Serena and the granolith. Will we make it to her before it’s too late,” Isabel asked.

“My father has an army of fifty troops with him and more waiting for him on Antar. There’s no way you’re going to be able to defeat them and reach Serena in time,” Sebastian spoke up.

Michael looked at him coldly, “if you got a better plan then speak up.”

“You need someone to get to Serena while the rest of you fight the Skins.”

“Who are you suggesting do that? You?”

“I’m the only that can reach her without fearing an attack from one of my father’s troops. None of them would dare attack me for fear of my father’s wrath.”

“What makes you think Serena will listen to you? Didn’t you say that she almost tried to kill you? Also how do we know you’re not going to turn on us and give the granolith to your father,” Max asked.

Sebastian looked at him coldly, “I’ll take care of my father so don’t worry about him.”

Everyone looked between Max and Sebastian and Michael. Max and Michael nodded to each other and turned back to look at Sebastian. “Fine. We’ll take care of the Skins while Sebastian goes see if he can save Serena and Morganna will take care of the military,” Max told the room.

“Alright Kyle and Alex I need you two to come with me. I got a few baseball bats around here and some Kevlar vests for us humans,” Valenti stood up. Alex and Kyle followed him while the others got up to get ready for the upcoming battle.

All too soon the three had come back and Valenti suggested, “Maybe I should swing by the station to see if I can find more vests for everyone.”

“We don’t have any time left for that, but it might be better if you went to the station and kept an eye on the town,” Max looked him in the eyes.

“My duty is to protect the town and it’s citizens, and what better way to do that then helping you all save the world. Now no more arguing with me and we better head off before it’s too late.”

Seeing that he wasn’t going to change his mind Max turned to Morganna, “we’re ready whenever you are.”

She raised her hand and opened a portal and everyone started entering it. Coming out of the portal they were all met by a bunch of Skins that had been moving towards the mountain where the granolith now sat on top of. The Skins had stopped when they saw the portal opened before them and seeing the Royal Four before them they started moving towards them. Morganna touched Max’s shoulder, “I have to go deal with the military and the media so I’ll be back soon. Be careful.” He nodded at her and she opened another portal and disappeared. Having decided earlier that they would be better off in two teams the twelve people split up as Sebastian snuck away as the Skins concentrated on the others. Max, Liz, Michael, Maria, Larek and Sara were on one team while Tess, Kyle, Isabel, Alex, Steven and Sheriff Valenti were on the other.

“It must be my lucky day. I get another chance to finish you all once and for all,” a voice sneered at them.

Recognizing the voice Max said, “Why don’t you go ahead and show yourself Nicholas? Then again you were always good at hiding yourself.”

“Eager to die huh? Well I’m sure I can help you with that,” Nicholas said as he came from behind the soldiers surrounding the group. “It’s going to be a pleasure to finally finish you all off.”

“You know you’re real chatty for a guy who’s always plotting to kill everyone,” Kyle said.

“Aww look they brought their little humans with them too. How cute and I’ll be sure to personal kill you,” he sneered at Kyle. Waving his hand at the troops he moved towards the group and Max and Tess threw up shields to protect their groups. Nicholas laughed eerily at seeing the shields, “apparently you didn’t learn anything from the last fight. Those shields aren’t going to last you long.”

“They’re not supposed to,” Max told him as he and Tess dropped the shields allowing Michael and Isabel to throw energy out at the Skins. Not expecting to be attack so sudden several of the blasts took out several Skins. Nicholas barely missed being hit got up from the ground and charged towards them with the others running behind him.

As the fighting continued on Sebastian made his way towards the pod chamber. Seeing it blocked off he sworn and continued climbing up until he came to the top where the granolith now rested. He pulled himself up only to see his father holding Serena by the throat. He didn’t know what surprised him most, seeing his father holding Serena by the throat or the fact that Serena’s hair was now black and her eyes were gray again. ‘What the hell is going on here,’ he wondered. He started towards them when a portal opened up next to his father and a woman who looked like Morganna walked out except her hair was shorter and curlier. The woman smiled at Khivar and she muttered something to him. Nodding his head at her he threw Serena to the ground and the two laughed as she lay on the ground gasping air. Khivar raised his hand and got ready to blast her when Sebastian rushed him. Sebastian moved to stand in front of Serena and he reached down and helped her up. She looked at him sadly and whispered, “You shouldn’t have come.”

“It’s a good thing I did otherwise my father would have killed you.”

“You don’t understand and it’s too late to let you leave,” she moved from behind him. Sebastian tried to push her back behind him but she eluded him. Turning towards Khivar she said, “It is time that you pay for all that you have done.”

Khivar laughed at her, “You little fool. You just don’t know when you’re defeated do you?”

She raised an eyebrow at him, “do you really think that you were going to defeat me this simple? Oh no wait you’re an idiot so you probably did think so. I bet she was over there egging you on to do her dirty work and did you ever stop to think why. By the look on your face I’m going to say no.” Turning towards the woman next to him she said, “why don’t you tell him the real reason you hired him to kill me Aunt Meghan.”

Khivar sucked in his breath, “Aunt Meghan? You’re her aunt? What the fuck is going on here?”

“None of your business. I hired you to kill her and still she stands here before me. If you want the granolith then you better get on with killing her,” Meghan told him.

“Tsk, tsk. My, what primitive language you have sunk down to. If only the people back home could see you now, but fortunately for them they won’t,” Serena stated.

“What are you talking about? No matter I’ll kill you now and the granolith will be mine,” he raised his hand towards her. Before he could released a blast the granolith lit up and released a purple light that covered them all. The light formed a shield around them and the granolith hummed loudly as more light filled inside it. Khivar looked in shock and asked Serena fiercely, “what the hell is going on?”

Serena ignored him and looked at Sebastian. “I really wish you hadn’t come up, but I’m kind of glad to that I won’t be alone.”

“What’s going on?”

“Well as of now the granolith is now in self destruct mode. I figured the only way to make sure that the end of the world doesn’t come anytime soon was to destroy the one that could cause it to happen. We only have less than a minute before it goes off, so I guess this is it.”

Khivar and Meghan could only look at her in disbelief. Sebastian looked down at her and nodded. Grabbing hold of her hand he pulled her in his arms and rested his chin on the top of her head.

“I love you Serena.”

“I love you Sebastian.”

That was the last thing they said to each other as the granolith blew up and the light hit them all. Rocks slide down the mountain and the desert floor shook at the impact of all the energy released. Those fighting on the ground coughed as the debris surrounded them and a few died and others were injured. Everyone looked in disbelief and shock at the sight of the mountain and what it meant. “No!” Sara and Isabel both screamed as they realized that their children had been up there. Tears filled their eyes and Alex and Larek pulled them into their arms to offer what comfort they could. “Oh my God, I wonder what happened for it to do that,” Liz whispered.

“I don’t know, but I don’t think anyone could have made it out alive,” Max said quietly.

Tess threw herself in Kyle’s arms while Maria was in Michael’s. Valenti and Steven took in the scene before them quietly. Each was used to death in their line of work, but it wasn’t something that either one had gotten used to seeing. Suddenly the silence was broken as an injured Nicholas gasped, “It doesn’t matter what just happened. I’m going to finish what I started and all of you are going to die.” He moved to raise his hand when a portal opened up and Morganna stepped out with Erik behind her. They took in the group before them and the debris that covered the desert ground. Morganna closed her eyes as if in pain and leaned against Erik. “I felt it, but again I’m too late. Why didn’t she let me open a portal to save them?”

“Maybe she felt it would be better this way. We’ll never know her reasoning, but we can only look forward to what’s ahead and be thankful for what she did. She did something none of us has been able to do she destroyed the granolith when she could have kept the power for herself. We have a lot of work to do,” he told her and the others.

She nodded her head and straightens up and grabbed his hand for strength. Turning to the others she said, “All of you need to go home. Erik and I will fix up this mess, but it’s better if all of you go rest and get some sleep.”

Everyone started to protest, but stopped as Morganna shook her head. “Go home little ones and rest and heal. We all need some time to just heal.” She turned towards the Skins and told them, “All of you must leave this world. You can either go back to Antar as you are or I can send you back as dust, which is your choice.” All of the Skins agreed to the first option despite Nicholas’s protest that they could take them all. One of the Skins knocked him unconscious halting any further protests and Morganna opened a portal and they all left. “For a little guy he does a lot of chattering,” she smiled wearily. Seeing that the group wasn’t smiling she lost hers and looked at Larek who was comforting Sara. Not sure what she could do to ease her daughter’s pain she swallowed and tried to focus on what had to be done at the moment. “Larek, where do you want me to open the portal at San Diego or Belladonna?"

“Belladonna if you would,” he told her. A minute later the portal opened and the two walked through it with Steven trailing behind them. Turning the nine people left she opened another portal and nodded to them. Everyone walked through the portal only to find themselves back in the Valenti’s living room. The eight teenagers broke up in couples and each went their separate ways in the house trying to find a quite place. Valenti sat down at the kitchen table and knew that he should probably check in with the station, but instead he took his hat off and placed it on the table. Raking his fingers through his hair he squeezed his eyes shut as the tears flowed down unheeded down his cheeks. Suddenly a breeze hit him and he heard a feminine voice whispered, “Be safe. Be happy. Life is worth nothing at all if you’re not willing to enjoy what precious time you do have.”

He raised his head at the whispered voice and he knew that maybe things would get better. It might not be today, it might not be tomorrow, but it would get better.

Epilogue

~one year later

So much had happened since that fateful day when all their fates had been decided and it was still a shock at times that the world was safe once and for all. While all eight of them were happy that the end of the world wouldn’t happen they were sadden at the sacrifice that had to be met in order to stop it. Time had come and gone and with that passing came healing for all of them. Now they were getting ready to graduate from high school and some of them were making plans for college and others wanted to travel the world. No longer looking over their shoulders had made them more relax and they started to become just eight normal teenagers that had fun, got into a little trouble, and worried about regular things like homework, SATs and such.

The four podsters didn’t even have to worry about going back to Antar as Larek had seized power (with Max’s permission) before anyone could and had been for the past year trying to establish a more parliament type of government. He knew an all out democracy just wouldn’t work as the people had been too long under a monarch and then later a dictator type government. Some political groups protested as did some of the rulers of the other three planets, but Larek pointed out that there was no one to take over the crown of Antar as Khivar had executed everyone in the royal family including Max and Isabel’s mother years ago. The message that the orb had revealed had been made years ago before she had been publicly executed for treason by Khivar. Isabel hadn’t taken the news well and neither did Max, but with help from Alex and Liz the two had started to heal and build on the relationship that they had with their Earth mother.

As for Tess she found out that her parents had died a long time ago when she had still been Ava. She did have some distant relatives on one of the other planets, but she was content with the family she had on Earth. She and Kyle had been going out steadily since last year and the two could be often found making out in the Eraser Room. There had been some awkwardness around the Valenti house as Sheriff Valenti wasn’t too sure about Kyle and Tess dating, but the three had a talk and a new set of rules and so everything was fine with them. Although he did tell them that as long as they didn’t make him a grandfather anytime soon he was okay with them dating. At which point in the conversation Kyle had muttered as long as he didn’t end up with a little brother or sister soon since Jim had started dating Amy Deluca again. The gang teased Maria and Kyle that they would end up stepsiblings soon and Tess just snickered at them until someone reminded her that she too would be a stepsibling. She stopped laughing after that.

Meanwhile Michael had been curious about any family that he might have on Antar. He found out that his immediate family had perished in the fight against Khivar years ago, but to his delight he did find out that Larek was his fifth cousin removed. The two formed a tentative friendship and soon they were communicating back and forth on the device Larek had given him. Also he grown more secure in his relationship with Maria and he was content that he would be staying on Earth. The bond between the eight had grown stronger and they were often found in each other presence.

Today they all had woken up with a need to come back to the pod chamber although none of them were really sure why they felt such an urgency to return. So here they stood silently remembering the person that had give them all another chance at life. They looked at the rocks that hid the pod chamber and once held the granolith. A few days after the fight they had all driven back out there to see the damage only to find that Morganna and Erik had cleaned everything up. The desert had been cleared of all debris and the mountain was back together again. It was a good thing the two were gods otherwise there would have been a hell of lot of questions asked by the government.

Suddenly silver light covered them and they turned to see a portal opening behind them. Larek, Sarah, Erik, and Morganna stepped out of the portal and everyone started talking at once. Morganna held up her hand and everyone grew silent. “I’m guessing we weren’t the only that woke up with a need to come back here,” she asked them.

“You guessed right. This morning we all just woke up and felt the need to come back here. We thought maybe you had something to do with it,” Max told her.

“No it wasn’t me. Maybe Serena’s spirit still lives on here and she wanted us here for some reason,” Morganna smiled sadly. “Then again it could be just wishful thinking on my part.” Erik pulled her into his arms while Sarah smiled at her, “there’s nothing wrong with wishful thinking. Sometimes I feel as if she’s right next to me chattering on about this and that.”

“You know when the team was playing at the State Championship I thought I saw her in bleachers cheering me on,” Kyle said slowly. “I thought I was imaging things because I was stressed out.”

“Wait you saw her at the game? That’s weird because I thought I saw her there too,” Tess frowned.

“Me too except she looked older then the last time we saw her,” Liz spoke up.

“I thought I saw Sebastian at that same game. Remember Alex I had turned to show you and when I turned back he was gone,” Isabel asked Alex.

“Yeah I do. So what’s going on? Could it be possible that they’re alive,” he asked Morganna.

“I don’t know. It’s possible, but we found no one when we were fixing everything up that day,” she started pacing. “If they’re alive then why haven’t they shown up now? Then again we all felt this weird pull to come here today so that has to mean something. Hmm but what it means is beyond me.”

Everyone started telling recollections of seeing Serena and/or Sebastian around town every once in a while. Morganna paced on in deep thought as the others came up with different theories. Suddenly she stopped and whirled around to face them. Turning to Liz she asked sharply, “Did you say that Serena looked older?”

Caught off guard Liz stuttered, “Um yeah she looked older to me as if she was in her late twenties or something like that.”

“I think I know where they could be at,” Morganna excitedly told them.

“Where,” everyone asked.

“The granolith had started bonding with Serena so there’s no way it would have killed her even if she asked it to do so. The granolith must have sent them to the realm where I was imprisoned at.”

“What do you mean a realm,” Valenti asked.

“It’s a place that’s existing between your world and mine. The only way to get there is by the granolith or by portal. Plus time runs differently there and its goes by faster than when on Earth or Antar.”

“Wait you were imprisoned,” Kyle asked curiously.

“Yeah, but that’s story for another time. I think no I know Serena and Sebastian are there.”

“I don’t want to be the mean one, but we have to be realistic. What if we get there and neither one is there,” Erik quietly asked.

“They have to be there,” Sarah said raggedly. “I don’t know what to do if they’re not.”

Larek comforted her as everyone grew silent.

“We can only try. For all we know they might be there waiting for us to come get them,” Max spoke up.

“He’s right. We have to try,” Morganna told Erik.

He looked at all the expectant faces staring at him and finally he nodded his head. Raising his hand he opened a portal and everyone started walking through it. Morganna whispered to him, “thank you.” In response he entwined his hands with hers and the two walked through the portal. Coming out of the portal they saw everyone looking around curiously at the large room in front of them.

“So where would we find them at,” Michael asked.

Morganna moved in front of the group and started walking. “Follow me,” she said over her shoulder. It was a silent group that followed her and as they walked along they looked out the windows seeing curious things. Kyle had stopped at one point and was just staring out the window at the huge ocean that strangely enough was only in one window. Tess had to go back and drag him away from the window while he sheepishly grinned at her. Finally Morganna stopped in front of a door and opened it up. Everyone crowded in the doorway and saw a bedroom but there was no one in it. She sagged in the doorway, “I was so sure she would be here. I mean where else could her and Sebastian be.”

“Hey you tried your best, maybe we should just accept that she’s gone,” Erik told her.

“Does anyone hear music, or is it just me,” Isabel asked.

“No I hear it too. It sounds like that Lifehouse song that I heard the other day on the radio,” Alex told her.

Soon everyone started walking in the direction the music was coming from and they stopped at the sight before them. The room was a huge ballroom and what shocked them most was the sight of the couple dancing in the center of the floor. There dancing in front of them was Sebastian and Serena but they looked older. Unaware of the group of people staring at them the two kept dancing around the room lost in their own little world as the music held them captive.

The music came to a stop and Serena turned away from Sebastian with a giggle and she gasped as she caught a look at the people in the doorway. Sebastian hearing her gasped looked up and saw what she saw. “Oh my God you guys finally figured it out,” she whispered. Letting go of Sebastian hand she started to slowly walk to them and then broke out in a run. She was met by everyone as they all started running towards each other. Soon she found herself embrace by her family and friends. Everyone started asking questions, but her attention was distracted by Sebastian still standing on the other side of the room. Isabel had been watching him for some time and with a whisper to Alex she started walking towards him. Standing in front of him she smiled with tears in her eyes and held out her hand. He grabbed her hand and she pulled him across the room to join the others. He was met with hugs by the others and everyone started talking at once.

Serena laughed and she held up her hand. “Okay how about I just tell you how we got here. Now let’s push some of these chairs together and have a seat.” Pushing all the chairs together they all sat down and turned to Serena expectedly. “Well I had set the granolith to self destruct and I knew Khivar would only show up if I was there as bait with the granolith. Plus I had a suspicion that Meghan had brought him to life so I knew she would only come out to make sure Khivar killed me once and for all. Anyway before he had showed up I had the granolith change me back and take my powers away. I wasn’t sure why, but I just felt the need to give the powers back. So everything was going along according to plan when all of a sudden Sebastian showed up.”

She leaned into his arms and he kissed her on the head and picked up the tale where she left off. “When I got there my father was choking Serena but when Meghan had shown up he threw her to the ground. He was getting ready to blast her when I rushed him. He started laughing and that he was going to kill when the granolith started lightening up. Serena told me that she had set it to self destruct and the last thing I remember was telling her I love her.”

“The granolith had been reluctant to go along with my plan of dying with it, but I told it that I would have to die in order for the world to be safe. I guess it was stubborn to the end because we woke up here and I’m guessing that it sent us here to save us,” she whispered.

“What about Khivar and Meghan? Are they alive too,” Michael asked.

“No one could have survived that unless the granolith wanted them to, and believe me when I say that they’re dead.”

“Okay I got a question how come we kept seeing you guys around town,” Kyle asked.

“Well I no longer have the powers of the gods so there’s no way for me to open portals out of here. Anyway I just astral project myself and Sebastian when I thought all of you would be around. There’s a mirror in the other room that shows what’s going on when asked,” she smiled.

“I should have thought of that since that seems to be one of my powers,” Liz mused.

Everyone laughed and everyone started chattering again. Morganna pulled Serena and Sebastian to the side away from everyone and asked, “So what are the two of you going to do. Technically you’re only about 18 years old, but physically you’re about 23 years old. It’s your decision to what you want to do.”

They looked at each for a few minutes and turned back to her. “We would like to go home. Two lifetimes we spent most of our time fighting and now we don’t have to and all we really want to do is go home,” Serena told her.

“You know despite everything that happened and all the trials and troubles there’s nothing at all I would change about it,” Sebastian smiled.

“Well that’s great because I don’t think your mothers are going to let the two of you out of your site,” Morganna laughed.

“Actually that sounds pretty good,” Serena told her.

Morganna grabbed the two for a hug, “you say that now, but just you wait.”

The three laughed and walked back over to the rest of their family and friends. Soon laughter filled the ballroom and music was turned on for dancing. It took several trips in time for them to get to this particular place in time, but finally they were all where they wanted to be.
