Chapter 20
Voices yawned. A loud barking noised thumped agent her head. Where was that coming from? Dark sinister shapes lumbered across dark hallways and she was floating. Her long hair stood on end and she felt someone touching her like she was waist deep in warm liquid.
She felt softness; like clouds surrounding her body and Liz felt a hand touch her hair. There were three dark shapes half emerged in the fog. Two with dark sounds like the base line of a cord and one high pitched scowl. Liz didn’t like that one.
The dark shape, with the high pitched scowl sprouted long golden roots like fireworks, or a flower emerging from its seed bursting out from the fogginess.
The dark shape became less grey and whiter with two small blue gems glistering inside a small circle. A small bud formed, and it was red in which the sound originated from. Liz didn’t like this at all. She wanted to stay emerged in the water where it was safe.
“Liz,” The high voice screeched. The voice sounded like a witch, a dark demon who resembled a siren in Greek mythology. What happened to the two base noises? Where were they?
“Liz, its going to be okay,” it was another high pitched voice, only this one was softer, like a blue bird singing. Liz liked this one. That blue bird voice had a nice friendly shape too. It wasn’t dark and sinister within the fog but it was a bright blue colour- it was loud and beautiful and stood out from the grey gas light fog.
“How long has she been like this?” The deep voice returned but it was the younger of the two. It was a tenor and not a base. His shape was huge and she could feel energy spark off like small raindrops. Liz felt woozy and her stomach rolled in never ending waves.
When would the spinning stop? Liz wondered.
“Max hasn’t arrived home from his shift yet,” a third high voice joined the group. This voice was full of concern with a hint of uneasiness. Isabel, Liz thought. Now she could put names to the voices. Maria was the blue bird and Tess; well it was no brainier why Liz hated the high whiny sound.
“I’m sure Max won’t mind us using his room,” The tenor voice spoke- Michael, Liz corrected herself.
This dark fog was Max’s room?
“What happened?” Maria asked.
Where are you? Liz tried to form the words but she was stuck in the fog and could only hear their voices.
“I went to the Crashdown to drop off some things and I went up stairs and found the whole apartment trashed –
“Oh my God, was it Kivar?”
“-With Liz on the floor out cold.” Michael finished, eyed Maria and said. “I don’t know,”
Liz’s head throbbed as she gently floated against the warm water.
“I wish Alex was here,” Isabel breathed but she seemed so far away.
Alex?
She felt coldness between her legs as invisible fingers brushed against her.
Liz convulsed. What ever that was she wanted it to go away. She wanted to stay inside her own bubble where she can breathe- be safe.
She closed her eyes and she felt herself flying until her two feet dug into white sand. Liz opened her eyes to find herself standing over a triangle shape with Tess and Ava facing her at the other ends. Liz saw a V shape glowing from inside her and immediately Tess and Ava vanished and were replaced with Max, only wearing long dark silk Indian pants. He smiled and whispered. “It was you,”
The scene changed. No longer were Max and Liz standing in the desert but laying against a rock formation gesturing out of crimson water. They hands interlocked. Mouths opened and clutching at each other clothes. She felt the coldness, yet again, between her legs. She dug her fingernails into Max’s skin but her hands froze at the foreign texture of his skin. Liz looked upwards and found Alex on top of her, smiling. “Hello, my love,”
She withered beneath him but his hands were sprawled against her hips. “Shh,” he cooed.
Kivar. The word exploded in her brain.
NO! Liz screamed. She tried to form the words but they had been sown shut. Kivar smiled and she saw his hand slide downwards. She arched her head upwards and began thrashing her head against the rock. She looked downwards and saw the red disappear underneath the amber desert sand. Liz side glanced to her left and found Max standing there.
Max! Her mind screamed. Max! His hands were inside her and she felt the vomit inside her throat as he moaned against his own pleasure of what he was doing to her. But Max remained where he was, and out of the darkness walked Tess. She smiled.
“He’s mine now,” She laughed and flicked out her tongue.
No you bitch! He’s mine, Liz thought with conviction. She rolled onto her stomach.
Kivar was gone, Alex was gone and Liz was left wearing a strapless white dress with high splits at the thighs.
She found Max and Tess sprawled on the ground, except Max wasn’t moving at all. Liz found Tess covering over him, making inhumane noises from her throat. She turned around and a piece of Max’s brain was hanging from her half open mouth. She closed her blood-red lips and Liz could see the ward of Max’s brain slide down her throat.
“He’s mine,” Tess screamed. “He’s mine, my own…. my precious.”
Okay, when did Lord of the Rings come into this? Liz thought. Maybe if I think hard enough I’d find Aragon and Legolas chained to a wall or something?
“Tess, cut the crap-”It was her voice. Liz turned around and found herself wearing black leather pants that black sweater that Tess always wore to expose her breasts. “The name is Havana,” Dream Liz said and fiercely cradled Tess’s head against her bosom and Liz saw Tess’s neck bone snap like a twig. Tess dropped to the ground. Dead.
“Accept your destiny,” The dream Liz said.
“Liz?” It was Max’s voice.
Liz turned around and the scene changed again, like sand piling from one side to another in an hourglass. Day became night, and Liz stood in the middle of the circle facing Max with a glowing healing stone in his hand.
“Liz. Liz. Liz.” Her name rolled from Max’s lips. Her faced flushed as she felt his warm skin against hers. Liz struggled to open her eyes. Max wiped the sleep from her eyes. He placed the healing stone on the floor before burying himself in her.
“You’re awake,” He said, relieved.
Liz felt his bed beneath her and she found herself in his strong embrace.
Accept your destiny, the words echoed in her mind.
So, she cradled herself beneath his chin and whispered. “I’m pregnant,”

Chapter 21
Tess felt lethargic. The smell of lavender pervaded around the room. She felt someone uniting the blindfold, and then, she saw Alex smiling at her.
Not Alex, she corrected. Kivar….
Her whole body ached and not matter how many times she changed clothes her shirts and pants stuck to her like second skin. Using a small napkin she wiped of another layer of moisture from her face and sighed.
“Please, take a seat,” Kivar implored His hand gave way to a dark marble table with six leather chairs. He pulled one out from her and she sunk down, every vertebrate in her body chided and she felt like she had no energy left. She saw a small plate of fruit, garlic bread and three bottles of Tabasco. However, Tess could only ogle at the food and endured her stomach rumble at the thought of food.
“I’ve lost a lot of blood today,” Tess whispered. Kivar sat down on the left and pulled in his seat. Her eyes were prickling hot and her throat clenched, the inner walls of her throat swelled.
“By the looks of it I’d say that you’ve lost a lot of blood,” He chuckled. Tess glared at him and she felt her self-convulsing with the thought that it was her fault that Kivar was here. If she hadn’t agreed with the notion of using Alex’s body as the vessel then none of this would have happened.
And I wouldn’t be like this either, Tess thought.
“So, how many cycles is it?” Kivar asked.
“Six times as month,” Tess replied. “It’s usually once a month but now… I can’t stop the flow.”
“Well, now that you say that,” Kivar clicked his fingers. A lady clad in black leather pants and a black-laced corset fluttered into the room. Her long blonde hair was clipped backwards and pilled into small coils behind her eyes. Her eyes showed no emotion; blank as marbles. Kivar jeered at his servant in a brusque manner, “Calypso, please bring three dark potato sacks and a white linen cloth.”
Calypso nodded and she sauntered out of the room and Kivar sniggered.
“Wh- was that-“
“I don’t want your blood on my leather chairs. They cost an arm and a leg!” He then eyed at her, the smile that Tess hated was always on his face when he stared at her breasts. “The white cloth is what you must wear… I’ve always been fascinated at the menstruation cycle and…I’d like to see you squirm.”
Kivar was demoralizing her, and she allowed it. But she had bigger fish to fry.
“So, there reason-”
Kivar was eating a strawberry and his gaze was anywhere but her. Tess fumed that he wasn’t paying attention. She was sick! Hybrids don’t get sick and he was her absolution! She gave him a body on earth in exchange for a cure! Where was his end of the bargain?
“Oh, I’m listening Tess,” Kivar continued to pick fruit off the table and eat.
“The reason I’m here is…that…I need another batch,” Tess meekly said, clutching a small vial in her hand. She ran out of the liquid Kivar called Q-T. Q-T balanced her system and prevented multiple seizures, irregular cycles and so forth. Q-T made her look and feel normal.
“Well, lil’ Lady that’s going to cost you,” Kivar waggled his finger in the air. “The scientists who have been experimenting Q-T on Ava’s comatose body don’t get paid on bread and water you know?” He rubbed his thumb and fingers together. “This goes beyond money,”
Calypso had returned with three potato sacks and a small see through skirt. Tess stood up and Calypso waved over the small blood pool on the seat and placed the three potato sacks down. She handed the skirt to Tess- it felt like warm silk against her fimble hands.
“Put it on, no underwear,” He instructed. Tess turned around and tensed her whole body. She would rather distract herself than fall apart in Kivar’s hands. She first stepped out of her slippers and slid them to one side. Next, she unbuttoned her loose cargos and slid them down until they too were a pool around her two legs. Then, blocking out all shouts of dignity she stripped off her six pairs of bleeding underwear. She kicked her clothes to one side and slid on the white lien cloth and tied the two straps together in a loose bow.
She crossed her legs together and brought herself around to face Kivar.
“Now, that wasn’t hard. Poppet” Kivar cooed and now stood in front of her.
“State your status on your mission.”
“I have been mind warping Max ever since I’ve arrived. No baby though.”
“Sir-” Kivar shouted. “You refer to me as your highness, or sir.”
Tess flinched, “Yes, your highness,”
Kivar’s face softened and his eyes began to explore her pale face. Tracing her eyebrows with a forefinger he whispered. “I’m a nice guy, you know? I eat? I work and I pay my taxes? I don’t understand why no body likes me?”
“No one likes me either,” Tess replied, hoping to get back with in his good gracious. I just need to get the Q-T, no matter what it takes.
“Correction, Tess. Someone did love you but you have also mind warped him that…even he believes the lies you placed in his mind,”
“Kyle,” Tess breathed. His flash flashed in her mind. Oh Kyle….
“But, you have always wanted Max,” Kivar said. “I know this…everyone knows this… So let me tell you something. You pay me by spending the night in my bed and home and then I give you the Q-T.”
She felt red liquid dribble down in a spiral motion around her clenched legs.
No, Tess thought. I have done many horrible things in my past for my mission. I want Max and I will make him love me but I won’t sleep with Kivar in Alex’s body.
“You know what Poppet?” Kivar sniggered. “My powers are getter stronger as my body draws near…would you reconsider if I looked like this?” He waved his hand around his face and he was Kyle, his dark blue eyes were shining at her.
“Tess,” He said. Even his voice sounded like Kyle. “Or…maybe…this.” Blue eyes turned to molten amber and his dark brown hair melted into black until Max’s face was staring at her. It was Max! No! it was Kivar.Even the smell of Max filled her senses.
“Tess,” He breathed. He sounded like Max. “Ever since you have walked into my life I felt like something was missing…that is … until … I placed my hand in yours,” His hand cupped her cheeks. “I won’t feel whole unless I make love to you Tess…” His eyes searched her, he touched her cheek and she could feel his breath on her face. “I love you Tess,”
It wasn’t Max. Tess slid her arms around him. It’s not Max. He clicked his fingers and they were bathed in candlelight. There was a bed behind them with dark velvet sheets and red roses were like vines around the Iron bedposts.
“Do you want me?” He whispered against her ear.
It’s not Max but everything inside her told her to pretend. As long as Liz was around She was second best. Unless she convinced Kivar that they needed to murder Liz in order for Tess to get Max…the idea formed inside her head.
“Yes,” She replied and kissed his lips. It’s not Max…
She fell on the bed and blacked out and allowed Kivar to have his way. If that’s what it took sooner or later it will be Max saying those words to her. Not Liz.
