Chapter 11

Tess woke up the next morning and smiled as she felt Sean’s chest rising and falling underneath her cheek. It was early, but she had to get him up because if Jim came home and found them in bed, she was pretty sure there would be hell to pay. Not to mention, more nights like last night would not happen as Jim would cut off his you-know-what!

It was strange having the fear of a protective father looming over her. She’d never really know what that was like. All she ever had was Nesado who constantly groomed her for seducing Max, and nothing else seemed to matter to him. Now, Jim was like a real father that cared and worried about her. It was a strange but nice feeling.

“Sean,” she whispered as she pushed him awake.

Slowly he opened his eyes and smiled down at her, kissing the tip of her nose. “You gotta get up,” she laughed, as she sat up, holding the sheet to her chest. “I’d love you to stay, but if Jim finds you here, probation will be the least of your worries.”

Sean smiled and nodded as he swung his legs over the side of the bed. Tess caught a glimpse of his ass as he pulled his boxers on. Her desire for him hit her again suddenly, but she couldn’t do anything about it at the moment.

She pulled a larger shirt over her head and moved out of the bed as well. Once Sean was dressed he pulled her to him and kissed her long and hard. “I had an amazing time last night,” he breathed as they came up for air.

“Me too,” Tess beamed.

“What are you doing today?” Sean asked on the way downstairs.

“Well, Maria and Liz are hanging out with Alex today. So, I’ll probably be at Max and Isabel’s.” Tess explained.

Sean’s features fell slightly. “Max?” he asked. He knew he sounded like a jealous boyfriend, but the truth was that he didn’t feel comfortable with Max Evans yet. He trusted Tess, but there was something off about Max and the way he reacted to her.

Tess pulled Sean to her and smiled. “I’ll be hanging out with Isabel.” She said. “Max is harmless, a little crazy, but completely harmless.”

“Okay,” Sean said, letting it go. “How about we meet up at the Crashdown later?” he said. “Maria said something about going there tonight to look over Prom pictures.”

“Sounds like a plan.” Tess smiled kissing him on the lips before she saw him out the door.

“I love him,” Isabel beamed as she spoke about Alex.

Tess was really happy for her friend. This alien thing had kept both of them alone and miserable for too long, and now things seemed to be going in their favor. Plus, Alex was just about the most amazing person Tess had ever met. He was by far the best friend she’d ever known. Of everyone, Alex was the only person in the group to give her the benefit of the doubt from the beginning.

“That’s awesome, Izzy.” Tess said. “You and he both deserve it!”

“And what about you and Sean?” Isabel asked, quirking an eyebrow up in Tess’s direction. They all knew she and Sean were dating but Tess had remained very tight lipped about the whole situation.

Tess couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. “Well, last night was a lot of fun,” she said cryptically.

“Oh My God!” Isabel screeched. “So, how was it?”

Tess couldn’t help but be relieved that Isabel didn’t give her a lecture about being safe. Which, come to think of it, she and Sean hadn’t been last night. She’d have to be more careful about that next time. “It was awesome.” Tess said. “There’s really no other way to describe it.”

“Well, maybe I’ll know more about it soon.” Isabel said, blushing.

“Wow, it’s that serious?” Tess asked.

“I think so.” Isabel said, “I’ve finally let him in and I’ve never felt like this before.”

“Well, you know I love him, so you’ve got my fill support.” Tess said. “Is he coming to the Crashdown later tonight?”

“He said he had to study, but I think I might have convinced him.” Isabel said with a wicked grin.

“Well, it should be interesting cause Sean’s coming to hang out and it will be the first time he’s really hung out with the whole group.” Tess said.

“And by that you mean, Max.” Isabel laughed. She knew her brother was being a pain in the ass. The way he treated everyone was completely unfair. He was so controlling. And if he loved Liz so damn much why did he rant and rave about Tess and Sean every waking moment? No wonder she had yet to tell him about her graduating early.

“Yeah, well, at least Sean is being cool about it.” Tess said.

“That’s good.” Isabel said. If Max screwed this up for Tess she would kill him. “So, wanna watch a movie?”

Tess smiled as Sean entered the Crashdown. It was after hours, but Maria was just doing some last minute cleaning and the Parkers always let the gang hang out as long as they wanted.

Max and Michael were having some debate about movies at the bar. Tess, Isabel, and Kyle were looking over pictures at a booth. Maria was bussing tables and Liz was finishing some last minute bio homework.

Tess got up and hugged Sean as she pulled him down into the booth next to her. “So, how was work?” Tess asked.

“Long,” Sean said with a sigh. “But the night’s looking up.” He winked.

Isabel giggled and Kyle rolled his eyes at the couple. But he was happy Tess and Sean had found each other. She deserved it.

Luckily, Max didn’t seem to notice Sean walk in because he was still engrossed in his conversation with Michael. He didn’t even look up until everyone did when they heard Maria drop he tray of dishes in the back room.

“What was that?” Tess asked aloud as they all looked to the backroom door.

Maria burst through the door seconds later, tears streaming down her face and Sean’s first instinct was to go to his cousin who was obviously hurt. However, Michael got to her first and Sean had to trust the kid to be there for his cousin.

Confusion mounted when Valenti walked into the dining room behind her, a solemn look on his face. “Dad?” Kyle asked. They were all standing now. What the fuck was going on.

“There’s been an accident.” He started. Tess’s breath caught in her throat and she didn’t even need him to finish to know what was coming. “Alex is dead.”
