Chapter Eleven: Nightmares
Alec put his bike in the cargo elevator next to their apartment, slid the door closed and attached the large pad lock. When he first moved into the apartment he didn’t know what he was going to do with his bike. He hated the idea of his baby sitting outside and the living room was too small to hold all the bikes. This was the perfect solution. All three of their bikes fit in the elevator which was good. Because Jondy already had his bed so there was no way in hell he was getting his parking spot too.
When he entered the kitchen he grabbed a beer and sat down. Things were starting to weight him down. Joshua and Mole were going stir crazy in Terminal City, Maxx was coming home soon, Normal was calling for vigilants and Jondy… well she was becoming more and more complicated every day.
When he first met her he thought, “Easy lay.” Then he got to know her and suddenly all of those stupid love songs and Hallmark sayings made sense. Whenever he wasn’t with her he was thinking about her, he worried constantly if she was okay, he could stay up for hours with her talking and hanging out… Then there was Biggs suggestion that she might be different. Like one of those breeding cult freaks. What would he do if she was a familiar?
“NOOOOOO!” Jondy’s voice screamed murdering the silence. Alec was in her room in less than a second with his gun drawn. She was sitting up in her bed with tears coursing down her face, shaking.
“Oh God, oh God, oh God,” she whispered over and over again.
Alec put back the safety and dropped his gun. He rushed over to her and took her in his arms as she sobbed. On the one hand he was just relieved she wasn’t hurt and on the other he was beyond scared. He’d never seen her like that.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked soothingly.
“It was just a dream, it was just a dream,” she said still shaking.
“It’s gonna be alright,” he said. “It’s okay Biggs, I got it covered,” he said over her shoulder softly.
”She okay?” he mouthed.
“I have no idea,” Alec said back. Biggs looked over at them and walked out of the room to his bed shaking his head slightly.
*
Liz rested her head against his chest and just let herself be comforted. The dream was so real. Carnage everywhere. Dead bodies surrounded her, she was coated in blood and the screams echoed off of every wall.
“Oh God,” she whispered.
“It’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay,” he said over and over again like a mantra. He swept her hair back and that’s when he saw it. A barcode.
“Oh my God,” Alec said holding her out away from him. “You’re a tranny?” he asked shocked.
Liz felt her world fall away as she twisted out of his grip. He knew now. Everything was going to change. She had to run away now. She had to get out of Seattle. She was just getting comfortable there.
“Jondy stop!” Alec said as she tried to push away from him when he grabbed her arm.
“Look!” he yelled and showed her his own bar code. “I’m the same as you.”
“I guess I know why you’re always so guarded now,” she commented after a long awkward silence.
“You too,” Alec agreed. “So are you really Sketchy’s cousin?”
“Yeah. I mean, I was adopted,” she explained. “When did you escape?”
“With all the others about six months ago,” Alec shoulder shrugged.
“Others?”
“Yeah in the escape a little while back, didn’t you hear about all that?”
“I was… preoccupied,” Liz thought thinking about running away from the skins. “I heard about a VA hospital burning down.”
“The government’s cover.”
“Almost as good as a weather balloon,” she said blithely.
“So… I don’t even know what to say anymore.”
“That’s a first. Can I see the others? Is that where you go all the time?” Liz asked curiously.
“Yeah, if you want to. We can always use another set of hands to help.”
“Let’s go then,” Liz said standing up.
“Right now?” he asked surprised. “It’s the middle of the night!”
“Well I’m sure as hell not going to sleep again tonight!” she said looking at him like the idea was completely ridiculous. “And if I know my transgenics over three quarters of them aren’t asleep anyways.”
She pulled her hair into a pony tail and grabbed a turtle neck and a hoody off the end of her bed.
“Why did I not ever notice never seeing the back of your neck?” Alec asked aloud.
“Because people usually don’t notice things like that,” she said. “I never noticed that you always had your collar up or whatever you do to hide it,” she added. “Although… you usually don’t wear collared shirts around town,” she said wrinkling her forehead in confusion. “I don’t get it.”
“I get it removed at a tattoo parlor in Chinatown. It has bad locks so a Biggs and I go in every nine days—“
“Biggs too?” Liz asked, her jaw dropping slightly. “God, so much for good training Lydecker. I’ve been living with two freaking trannys and I didn’t even know it,” she said frowning in disbelief.
“Okay, maybe he did a shitty job teaching us tranny awareness, or maybe he just taught us really well to blend in and not be noticed,” he suggested. “Hey Biggs, you want to go to TC with us?”
“Sure----- what the hell do you mean us?” Biggs asked coming out of his room.
Liz turned around and showed him her bar code.
“Hol-y shit,” Biggs said and then picked Liz up in a bear hug. “I KNEW IT! Welcome to the family Squirt!” he said giving her a slobbery kiss on her cheek.
Liz grinned. It was almost like a little family now. Almost like what she left behind.
*
“Hey boys, everything looking chill?” Biggs asked as they got into head quarters. “This is Jondy, 497. Jondy-girl this Mole and Joshua,” he introduced.
Liz watched the Lizard-Man size her up. “I could take you,” she told him simply.
“I’d like to see you try,” he laughed.
“No. You really wouldn’t. So you’re obviously made for desert terrain and just looking like a bad ass,” Liz said looking at Mole more closely. “But uh, what’s your deal Joshua? Did they just put a little too much K-nine in your cocktail or what?”
“I was first,” he said sniffing her hair.
“Look pal, I don’t mind you sniffing around my head, but no butt whiffs OK?” Liz asked smiling slightly.
“Deal,” he told her. “You… You have k-nine in your cocktail?” he asked growling slightly.
“Yeah, but uh, don’t worry, this can still be your territory, you go ahead and mark till your empty,” she said. “Those are some awesome teeth you got there,” she commented moving the extra skin back around his mouth. “My teeth are a lot stronger then human and cat teeth but there nothing like yours.”
“You smaller than little fella,” Joshua said.
“Oh yeah? Little fella, huh? I guess that would make me tiny fella?” she asked. “Hey Scaly, you want to point me to a job I can help with?” she asked Mole.
“The name’s Mole, I suggest you learn it and use it,” he told her.
“Don’t get your fatigues all in a twist,” Liz said with a slight eye roll. “Or do you Lizard Boys like the butt floss?”
“We need to get this power generator fixed and need to get these three bikes ready to be mobilized as soon as possible,” he told her clearly aggravated. Biggs and Alec looked slightly worried. It wouldn’t be the first time Mole went looking for a fight. And even though Liz was X5 she was less then half his size and she seemed so fragile.
“Thanks MOLE,” she said deliberately and went to work.
“Why does she think she can talk like that to just anyone?” Biggs asked looking at a very annoyed Mole.
“Because she can,” Alec answered flippantly. “When you look like that you can do whatever the hell you want to do.”

Chapter 12: Sisters and Friends
Liz stared at her reflection in the mirror. She hadn’t slept in days. Every time she had tried she dreamed of the nightmare. It was becoming clearer to her. Before it was like an awful impressionistic painting of pain and now it was like a blurry photo. She could almost make out the faces. It was her standing in the middle of a large room… There were bodies around her. And there was a constant pounding next to her. She was coated in blood, whether it was hers or not she didn’t know.
“What are you thinking?” Biggs asked as he and Alec walked into her room. “You look pensive.”
“I’m just… I’m ready to go,” she said and smiled slightly at her newly found family. “Let’s go, as meager as the paycheck is we can’t afford to be without it.”
“We were actually thinking of a skip day. Our friend is rolling back into town so Normal is going to be bitching twenty four seven about how we’re all feckless bums,” Alec said.
“Oh… Well onto Terminal City then?” Liz asked then. “We can get a little work done and then go out and do something,” she suggested.
“Lead on Little One,” Biggs said smiling.
*
“Hey Mole! Didn’t you miss me sweetheart?” Liz asked as she entered head quarters. “Don’t answer, I know you did.”
“Look, we were in a conversation, so if you’d like to mind your own business—”
“Whoa Maxxy, retract the claws!” Alec said fighting off his… his friend? What exactly was Maxx again? His partner in crime? More like his migraine. And for that matter, what the hell was Jondy to him too? When did things get so confusing?
“MAXX?” Liz demanded.
“Yeah?” A pretty brunette turned around angrily. It was her.
“Fuck!” Liz exclaimed. Alec stared at her completely confused as did everyone else.
“Care to expand on that brilliant point?” she asked sarcastically.
“Man 452 when did you become such a bitch? Shit! It’s me—It’s Jondy! Holy crap!” she shouted hugging Maxx to her. “You look SO different!”
“Yeah! Well ten years will do that to you! What- How did you get here?” Maxx asked grinning widely. She changed from angry bitch Maxx to friend Maxx in a matter of seconds.
“Long story- You want to grab something to eat and then we can swap stories?” Liz asked excitedly. “I can’t believe you’re here!”
“I know!” Maxx agreed. “Yeah, I know of a great café that serves actual coffee about a mile up the street!”
“I think we were just replaced,” Biggs commented, looking at their retreating backs.
Alec just stared dumbfounded.
*
“So you got out of Manticore, defeated evil aliens, saved the planet and now helping the trannies enter normal lives?” Maxx asked at Crash later that night. They had spent the entire day talking.
“Well, that’s the plan right now I guess. You never know what will change it though,” Liz commented smiling.
“You were always such an overachiever!” Maxx teased. “Most deadly and youngest of the best X5 group created. Impressive.”
“Yeah. Whatever, like any of that matters now. So anyways, I have to meet Logan now ya know that? I mean, if this guy is so great that Manticore wants to take him out he’s someone I need to meet!”
“He’s staying home tonight so we can go see him now if you want,” Maxx said. “Oh look Fric and Frac are here,” she called.
“Hey Biggs, Alec, what are you two up to?” Liz asked standing up. She gave them each a hug quickly.
“Oh well you know after we got ditched today we just helped out on base and then got shot at, just another day right?” Alec asked.
“When you’re us at least. Well we were going out to meet Logan, so I’ll see you both back at home,” she said.
“Wait, you live with the two stooges?” Maxx asked.
“Hey man, just call her Mo. I’ll see you later,” Alec said.
“Bye and don’t drink too much tonight. We still actually have bills to pay.”
*
“Jondy this is Logan Cale, Logan this is one of my sisters Jondy,” Maxx introduced.
“Oh my freaking lord,” Liz exclaimed. “I mean when Maxx told me that you help the good fight I thought you sent over some care packages to TC. I had no idea that you were Eyes Only!”
“W-what are you talking about?” Logan stuttered completely taken off guard.
“Please don’t insult my intelligence. You have the exact same eyes, they blink at approximately the same rate as the Eyes Only hacks, within two hundredths of a second, the room we passed a little bit ago has beyond sophisticated computer equipment including a B6-R308B computer processing machine, which encodes a normal binary code into Java Script making it unreadable and untraceable until it goes through a filter. That’s your audio,” she said quickly.
Maxx grinned in pride.
“Don’t feel bad Logan. She excelled in diagnostics.”
“So I hear you make some excellent food, where is it?” Liz asked smiling.
“You’re in luck, the spaghetti’s almost cooked.”
“Logan, you love computer, you’re going to feed me and you help out my family. I think I just found a new best friend,” Liz joked.

Chapter Thirteen: Heat
“Hey Jondy,” Alec greeted surprised. He heard her leave earlier that morning so he didn’t think she was home still. He figured she went over to TC to do some more work. She really loved helping out there it seemed. Mole was even getting along with her.
Liz just stared at him. He was sitting down in his boxers and nothing else on the couch watching cartoons. A bag of Hot Cheetos were in his lapand the pads of his fingers were stained orange. He was hardly looking like a center fold so why did she have the sudden urge to jump him?
Oh crap. Heat. She was in heat again.
“Hey are you sick?” he asked concerned jumping up. “You look really flushed!” he exclaimed concerned. He didn’t know if they could get sick but he really didn’t want to take any chances with her.
“No! I’m alright. Just stay over there on the other side of the room, kay?” Liz said running into the bathroom. She turned on the cold water and just stood underneath the spray for what seemed like an eternity. She hated feeling like this. Like she was back at Manticore jonesing for her mate.
“Hey girl,” Biggs said opening the door. She could see his form through the shower curtain. “You and Maxx doing something today?”
“Umm, maybe,” she strangled out of her voice as she turned up the cold water. “You should probably get out of the bathroom now cause the water’s helping me contain the pheremones… But soon the cold water’s going to run out and there’s no way I’m not going to jump your ass,” she told him honestly.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Biggs asked totally confused.
“Nothing, could you give me a minute though?” she asked.
“Sure thing, we’re ready to go to work when you are.”
“Okay…” she sighed and as soon as the door opened she wrapped a towel around herself and practically sprinted out of the bathroom to her bedroom. She pulled on a plain pair of jeans, slipped on her boots and grabbed a black shirt out of her closet.
“Hey you ready to go out yet?” Biggs asked walking into her bedroom. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Liz turned around and gave Biggs the once over. Damn that boy was hot…
“Get out, get out, get out,” Liz said shoving him out of the doorway. She used to go to the desert when she lived in Roswell. Where was she supposed to go now?
*
Alec walked around the kitchen and could practically taste the pheremones coming off of Jondy. She was in heat. He had to get her to a safe place away from him and Biggs. Away from males altogether. Maxx and CeCe were on their way.
“Damn, we should probably take off for awhile. Let her… calm down,” Biggs said running a shaky hand through his hair. “Why is her heat so strong? Cause I’m pretty much scaling the walls right now…”
“She has more animal DNA then the other X5 females,” he said staring at the door. “Damn… we need to get the hell out of this apartment!”
“Right behind you!”
*
“So you sure you’re okay?” Maxx asked Liz that night. They had went to the woods nearby and had trained with CeCe all day long.
“I’m too exhausted to walk, never mind fornicate,” Liz sighed sitting down on a rock. “In any case I think it’s best if I stay here. I’ll camp out and head back tomorrow morning.”
“Alright. I’ll see you tomorrow then girl,” CeCe said hugging the small brunette quickly.
“Yeah, I’m glad I met you,” Liz grinned. “See you later Maxie,” she added to her big sister.
“Don’t be late for work tomorrow.”
*
“Are you crazy? You can’t go out into the woods! J-J’s pheremones were going absolutely crazy!” Biggs yelled at his friend as Alec mounted his bike.
“I’m not going to do anything stupid. But she deserves a hot meal and a blanket okay?” Alec grouched and rode off towards the woods. Biggs acted as though he didn’t have any self control.
“Hey, I brought you some food—” Alec said and stopped when he saw her. She was looking like him like a starving man would look at an In and Out. “and uh… I uh brought a blanket.”
“Kiss me,” she whispered and dragged him down against her lips by his collar.
“We shouldn’t-”
“Shut up,” she said wrapping her legs around his waist. Alec groaned and swung her against a tree. She slipped her hands underneath his shirt and scraped her nails against his back.
“Fuck,” he breathed out.
It wasn’t until they were lying together and the sun was coming up that they thought about what they did. It was going to be a long day. Liz sighed. This wasn’t supposed to happen. She didn’t want this at all. And worst of all, she couldn’t find her underwear.

Chapter Fourteen: Sexual Tension
Liz rode her bike into Jam Pony and hung it up on the rack.
“Stupid, slut, whore, moron, idiot, skank ho,” she muttered.
She’d slept with Alec. How could she be so dumb? So irresponcible? Now she had to avoid him like the plague. Which was hard considering that they lived together.
“Hey, you weren’t there this morning,” Biggs said riding in after her. “We waited for you and you didn’t show up.”
“Yeah, well… I had things to do,” she told him.
“Oh, okay. Uh, you want to meet up for lunch? Me and Maxx were going to go to the street vendor that sells real hot dogs on South Market.”
“That’s a joke, real hot dogs,” Liz smiled. “And it’s Maxx and I, not me. Sounds good,” she told him while filling out her paperwork from the last run.
“Thank you Professor Parker. Oh yeah- Alec’s going too,” Biggs added and watched his roommates slowly fade.
“You know what, my next run is on North 10th so I’ll just grab something on the way,” she told him avoiding eye contact.
“So is this how it’s gonna be? We can’t hang out anymore just because you two slept together?” he asked bluntly. Liz’s eyes widened in surprise.
“How did-”
“Please, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure things out. It wasn’t you- I was ready to jump your ass too. It was them that made you that way, it’s not your fault J.”
“But here’s the thing Biggs, it wasn’t Manticore’s vagina, it was mine. And so it’s not them that has to live with the repercussions of their actions, it’s me. So I’ll just talk to you later,” she told him as she got her bike off the rack.
“That was as poigniant as it was graphic,” he laughed. “See you at TC?”
“Sure,” she said over her shoulder riding out.
*
“Get ready,” Liz said walking into the living room. “We’re pulling a job.”
“What?” Alec asked standing up.
“It’s a three person job and Maxx and CeCe have plans. We’re stealing diamonds and art. This is big and it’s going down soon. I need you two. Be ready in ten,” she said walking into her bedroom.
“Well you heard the woman,” Biggs laughed getting up.
“Why do I have a bad feeling about this?” Alec sighed.
“Cause you’re a dumbass?” Biggs suggested. “Hurry up, we have nine minutes till we take off.”
*
Liz lowered herself down on the black line she dropped from the ceiling and wrapped it twice around her leg. She knew that Daloris Browning was a crooked woman who didn’t pay her staff anything.
It was okay to steal from bad people.
She flipped herself upside down and checked to make sure Alec and Biggs were doing the same.
Liz grabbed a small spray bottle and misted the area and then grabbed a pair of goggles so she could see the lasers. It was going to be tricky. She lowered herself down further trying to control the swing of the rope. When she got close enough she grabbed a pair of long tong like tweezers and very carefully extracted the large diamond from the stand.
“This is baby stuff,” Alec said softly. “A second level brigade could do this with their eyes closed.”
“This isn’t what we’re after. This simply keeps us in skittles and beer at Terminal City.”
“Then what are we after?” Biggs asked confused.
“We’re doing a job for the North Korean government. There’s a Rembrant in the top of this museum. We give it to them, they give us a van full of ammunition. Alright. Biggs you have to make your way to the control panel. In exactly four and a half minutes you need to press in this code, 836742219. Alec you’re with me and if for any reason this goes South we get out any way, the fastest way,” she said and the three climbed up their ropes without another word.
*
“Oh my God I can’t believe we’ve been in here for an hour!” Alec muttered.
“Shut up. Now’s not the time,” Liz said. “There’s two guards out there, we can take them-”
“Not before the trip the silent alarm J-J,” Alec reminded her. Since when did he become the responcible one. “We might as well face it, we’re in here till the guard’s shift ends which is probably in three more hours.”
“Fan-freaking-tastic,” Liz sighed sitting down on the ground.
“So what should we do to pass the time?” he asked.
“I have an idea, but we’ll have to try and stay quiet,” Liz told him smiling flirtaciously.
Alec gulped. He wanted to-so badly. But he didn’t want their relationship to change either. Jondy unzipped her vest and slipped her hand into it and pulled out… two spoons and a bouncy ball.
“You know you want to play with me,” she grinned.
“Fine,” he grumbled and grabbed a spoon. “So tell me more about your friends back home. You don’t talk about them at all- except for Alex and Kyle.”
“My boys,” she said fondly. “Well for the longest time it was just me, Alex and Maria. We hung out all the time and then Kyle started coming by my freshman year. Soon we started dating so it was the four of us. I remember this one time Alex’s band was playing at the senior prom in a neighboring town but we weren’t students so we couldn’t go. Maria, Kyle and I snuck in to see them in the back dressed up and everything. We danced and had such a good time. And then afterwards we went back to the Crashdown and stayed up all night talking and goofing around,” she smiled but then felt her heart grow bitter. Then was four months before she was drug into the abyss.
“But… In September I met another guy. And he introduced me to the pod squad,” she sighed. “Isabel, Max-the guy, Michael and Tess. We were eight best friends, we’ve been through a lot together. By all means we should all be dead by now… But then Alex died and it caused a big rift in the relationships.”
“Tell me about being a teenager in post pulse America,” Alec said.
And then spent an hour and a half swapping stories. Alec’s about missions gone awry, Liz’s about parties on Saturday night. It felt like friends catching up.
“So about last night-” Liz said running out of funny stories.
“The guards are switching. Let’s make this fast,” Alec interrupted.
*
Liz still couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Alec and some naked girl making out on his bed. She wanted to talk things out. Clear the air. And this is what she catches him doing.
“We need to talk,” she told him over the undeniable grunts. Alec looked up and at least had the grace to look guilty.
“Uh… just a second,” he said still on top of the girl. He’d gone to Glory after the job to drown his sorrows in hard liquor. He was in love with Jondy. He tried to deny it, to refuse it, to stop… But she was like a disease that had infected him with no cure. And it was becoming painfully obvious that she didn’t feel the same.
It still didn’t excuse the four bottles of Tequila and bottle of Captain Morgan he downed. Even with their metabolism if you drank enough of it fast enough you could get pretty drunk. And drunk people always got lonely… And the blonde just wouldn’t take no for an answer…
“No problem,” Liz said and closed the door. How could he do that to her? It hadn’t even been a day since they’d been together.
“Look I can explain-” Alec said as soon as he walked out of his bedroom. To his credit it had taken less then a minute for him to get out there in a pair of sweat pants and a wife beater.
“Oh this should be good, let’s hear it Alec. Let’s hear how you can justify being a man whore? Come on let’s hear it you fucking bastard!” she shouted at him.
If there was one thing Alec couldn’t take it was being yelled at. Maybe things would never work between himself and Jondy because they both had such bad tempers.
“Look I didn’t think my entire life was going to be flipped upside down because of one stupid mistake alright! I didn’t know you were going to get so attached for God’s sake! You’re like a little girl with a school yard crush! GROW UP!” he shouted while shoving her back into the wall forcefully.
He looked at her and time seemed to slow down. She just looked up at him and stared at him like he was a smudge on her shirt.
“You know what there’s a naked wanting girl in your bed. So I’m just going to go,” she stated pushing past him. “And just so you know Alec? You won’t be doing any stupid mistakes ever again. Go fuck your whore,” she told him and grabbed her keys off the table.
“Jondy! WAIT! I’m sorry- this was never supposed to be like this!” he said sighing.
“Just because it wasn’t supposed to be, doesn’t mean it isn’t like the way it is. We’re through as whatever happened the couple days, we’re done as friends. See you around,” she said and slammed the door closed.
“Hey, everything okay?” the blonde asked as she walked outside dragging the sheet with her. What was her name again?
“Yeah. Go ahead and take my bed, I’m sleeping on the couch,” he told her. He wasn’t going to sleep with her, but he didn’t want her to be wandering the streets late at night alone either.
*
Alec jumped up as soon as the door opened. “J-J I just wanted---”
“It’s just CeCe,” his friend said walking in. “I was just with Jondy, she’s over at Sketchy’s… She’s going to crash out on his couch.”
“Oh… I see,” he said sighing.
“You guys have a fight or something?” CeCe asked confused. She’d been hanging out with Jondy the entire day and she didn’t mention anything. Then again she wasn’t the type of girl to spread her anger.
“She didn’t say anything? Or seem different?” Alec asked surprised.
“No, she’s fine. Why? What happened?”
“Whatever we might have been starting is done with. In fact, I think that our entire relationship is over,” Alec said infinitely depressed that she didn’t even say anything. Wouldn’t she have mentioned it if she cared? It was if it never happened. IT was if THEY never even happened.
*
“Hey man, did your cousin get to work today? I really need to talk to her,” Alec said to Sketchy the next day.
If he had any idea that it was going to happen all his punch would have caught was air. But seeing as how Sketchy never fought and was an all around passive person he never would have guessed that he would be given a black eye.
“I know that you could probably kill me with you pinky finger Alec but this is J-J we’re talking about. I don’t know the details, I don’t want to know the details but just stay away from my cousin. STAY AWAY,” he told him angrily.
“Wow.” OC sighed.
“I know- what a nut job!” Alec said trying to laugh it off.
“I just didn’t think he had it in him. Now my brother, I’m going to lay down some knowledge for you. Here’s the dealio. We all know you fucked up with Jondy real bad and we’re all not happy about it. But that aside, give Maxx and Sketchy a day or so and I’m sure they’ll talk to you again.”
“And Jondy? When will she talk to me again?” Alec sighed.
“Even Ja cannot see that far into the future,” Herbal Thought told him.
“Well that’s just fucking perfect,” he grumbled.

Chapter Fifteen: More Then Friends
“So where is the All American Jock going to be sleeping?” Alec asked. The more he thought about the situation the angrier he got. Why was he the one being ostrisized here? She did the same thing that he did. He shouldn’t feel guilty about it. Especially when her ex-boyfriend was coming into town for a fuck fest.
“He has a name,” Liz said downing the rest of her beer. “You might want to learn how to use it ass hat,” she said under her breath. “And he’s sleeping in my room.”
“No, he’s not,” Alec told her. “I don’t want to be kept up hearing you guys have sex together!”
“Fuck you---- Oh wait, did that already, didn’t I?” Jondy asked snidely.
“Why don’t you grow up?” Alec asked.
“Why don’t you shut up?” Jondy demanded.
“Whoa! Seize fire!” Biggs said looking between his friends. Thank God Lydecker didn’t give them laser vision.
“I say let them go at it. Maybe she’ll kill him,” Maxx said. She had full confidence in her little sister that she could totally kick Alec’s smart ass if she needed to.
“You aren’t helping the situation,” Biggs told her and she simply shrugged her shoulders as the two continued yelling at one another.
“Here’s Jock Boy now,” Alec muttered.
“One day I’m going to hit you so hard in the mouth that every dentist in the world will feel it,” Liz told him before standing up.
“Don’t make promises you won’t keep!” he said threateningly.
“Don’t test my patience because it’s running thin,” she snapped turning around.
“KYLE!” Liz yelled running into his arms as he walked into Renagade. “Oh my God! I’ve missed you so much!” she said hugging him tightly. “I’d ask you how you’ve been but we freaking talk on the phone all the time so yeah, no need. Let me introduce you to some of my friends.”
“Okay,” Kyle said giving her another quick hug. “You look really good. Big city life agrees with you.”
“You just like the leather halter top,” Liz smirked at him.
“I really, REALLY do,” he agreed as they made there way to the table.
“And I can’t get over the hair change!” he added grinning. “Very city.”
“Yeah, I just really needed a change ya know?”
“I don’t blame you.”
“Guys this is Kyle Valenti. Kyle, this is my sister Maxx, Logan, my cousin Skethy, his fiancé Natalie, Biggs, Original Cindy, Alec and Herbal Thought,” Liz introduced. “You want a drink?”
“Beer?” he asked.
“Let’s hit the bar,” she told him and he grinned at her.
“Where were you when I needed a drinking buddy in Roswell?” he asked and she just shrugged. “Well I’m glad she’s here now.”
“Me too!” she laughed.
“Me too!” Alec mimicked. Liz not so subtly knocked into him as they walked by.
“One day J-J, one day,” he told her scowling mopping up his spilt beer.
“You’re going to what? Glare me to death? If you want to fight, come to me straight and we’ll git er done,” she told him and walked away towards the counter with Kyle.
Alec stood up and went straight towards some random girl who was giving him the eye. “You want to dance?” he asked.
“Yeah!” she squealed and jumped off the counter. She was the exact opposite of Jondy. Tall, blonde, huge boobs, way too much make up and she was wearing a tight pink tube top and a short skirt with hooker heels. Did Jondy have any pink cloths? Probably not. She was all about being sexy in an understated way.
“I’m Kelly,” she told him.
“I don’t really care,” he told her honestly and she just laughed like he made the funniest joke in the world. He pressed her body close to his and rubbed her in all the right places while they were dancing. He noticed that Jondy was doing a good job at looking like she didn’t care. Or maybe she really didn’t.

“So did you have fun?” Liz asked Alec as he walked into her bedroom in his boxers. She and Kyle were camped out on front of the bed with a game of scrabble in front of them.
“Yeah,” he mumbled under his breath.
“Well that’s good,” she said sarcastically. “Now get the fuck out of my room,” she said standing up.
“Did you have a good time last night?” he asked ignoring her.
“Well from what we heard last night not as good as your size Barbie. Has the slut gone home yet?”
“I don’t see how it’s any of your business!”
“You’re right Alec. You are none of my business anymore. No… it wasn’t my business to begin with. Now like I said, get the fuck out of my room,” she repeated and shoving him out of the room. She turned and glared at a laughing Kyle.
“What?”
“Man! I’ve watched enough porn to see what foreplay looks like. Say whatever you want but I know that you are way more than just friends with this guy.”
“Well, we should start packing up your things, you have a bus to catch in a couple hours,” Liz said.
“Nice try on the subject change. We can talk on the way to the bus station,” Kyle laughed.

Chapter Sixteen: Attack
“South Market Street run? I’m not going out all the way out there, HELL no!” Alec yelled getting a package. “If I do I won’t get any lunch break!” he yelled afterwards.
“I’ll go,” Liz said sending death rays towards Alec. “Oh, and Alec?” she asked before she exited the door. “Joshua needs to see you,” she told him, smiled once and left.
As soon as she was out of ear shot he reared his fist back and slammed it into the wall.
“Whoa there Hotness, calm down,” Biggs said shaking his head. “Let’s go see Joshua, and you can cool off for awhile, okay?”
*
“And another thing! Why does she think that our shower rod-the one WE ripped off OURSELVES, is a goddamn cloths line? I’m tired of her panties and bras just hanging there for the world to see!” Alec complained to Biggs as they worked on a computer together.
“Alec, could you pay attention?” Biggs asked. “And besides, I happen to like her lacey … things hanging up there. It’s hot,” he said.
“It’s not hot it’s fuckin-”
“Jondy’s on TV!” someone yelled. Alec whirled around so he was facing towards one of the TVs they set up for sureveillance.
“This girl is dangerous, please approach with caution!” a reporter said on the television.
“Get Logan on the phone and tell him to block that channel!” Maxx yelled somewhere in back of them. Two seconds later the screen went black. Thank God. If the camera had gotten a look at her face there’d be no safe place for her. She’d have to hide like Mole or Joshua.
Alec was already dialing in her phone number.
”Jondy-“
“Alec you won’t ever guess what just happened to me,” Liz said clearly freaked out.
“Get to Terminal City now!” Alec said urgently.
“Excuse me miss?” a British accent asked. Metal Eddie. A vigilante. Alec was sure it was him.
“JONDY GET HERE NOW!” Alec said urgently as he started moving. It felt like he just jumped into a pool of ice water naked. He grabbed a couple guns off the counter and ran towards his motorcycle, he barely noticed Maxx and Biggs next to him.
“Hey do you want to donate money to keep our streets safe?” Alec heard someone say and his stomach dropped. They were already there, practically on top of her, and she didn’t even know she was in danger.
“Not today guys—“ Liz’s voice trailed off and the phone dropped out of her hand.
“RUN!” Alec yelled into the phone. “JONDY GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!”
“What-” her voice was roughly cut off and then the phone went dead.
“JONDY! JONDY!” Alec screamed into the dead receiver.
*
“Why don’t you scream you tranny piece of shit?” one of them yelled kicking her in the kidney. “Come on! I WANT TO HEAR YOU SCREAM!”
Every cell in her body felt like it was bleeding. And maybe it was. Liz kept her mouth shut as the group of five attacked her again. They were kicking her, throwing things at her, spitting on her, cutting her…. There were so many more, so many more around her.
She was going to die there.
A metal toed boot connected to her temple and a red explosion of pain hit her.
“SCREAM!” he shouted again and kicked her in the neck. She wondered inanely if he cared she just threw up blood on his shoes. Probably not. A hard kick connected to her rib cage and another explosion of pain hit her. Another blow to the top of her head, one to the temple, a knife wound to her leg…
Don’t scream. Don’t scream. Don’t scream. Don’t scream, Liz repeated to herself like a mantra.
“Who’s… inhuman… now?” Liz wheezed. That resulted in an even more passionate beating.
She felt her legs being bound her arms being tied her back and then thankfully she felt nothing at all.
*
“Holy shit,” Biggs said feeling sick as they drove up. His little sister, his roommate and his best friend was being drug around behind a truck in the streets as the masses cheered. He used his enhanced sight to look at her face. She was either dead or unconcious.
Let it be the latter, please let her be okay God, Biggs prayed. He didn’t even notice he was praying to a God he didn’t believe in.
“Let’s get her out of there,” Maxx said urgently.
Alec was moving already making some guttural sound between growling and throwing up. Biggs looked over at his wingman quickly. His light eyes were practically black in rage and his hands were trembling. Fear and fury bottled up in one transgenic package.
Biggs got out his knife and revved his engine. He rode past the car and threw the knife, severing the rope that was pulling around Jondy. Maxx rode by and knocked down the people who were cheering at the would-be murder creating a diversion. Alec rode by and shot at a few people as he drove by. He hit a few of them in the arms and legs so they couldn’t stop him and scooped up the small brunette placing her between him and the handle bars. The entire thing took about fifteen seconds. People barely had time to react.
“Logan’s place is closer!” Max shouted over the noise.
“WAKE UP J-J! PLEASE WAKE UP!” Alec pleaded as he drove trying hard to concentrate on both.
“Is she alive?” Biggs shouted, fearing the answer.
“I-I can’t tell and I can’t hold her up much longer!” he shouted to them. His eyes were wild and his carefully cool exterior disappeared.
“We’re almost there,” Maxx told him.
The three parked and ran up to his apartment as fast as their transgenic legs could carry them and burst through the door. Asha and Logan looked up surprised from their meal.
“Oh my God!” Logan gasped standing up. Alec set the bloody body down on the ground carefully as Biggs checked her vitals.
“She’s alive, but we got to go to work NOW,” Biggs said.
“If I see those mother—” Alec said his thoughts dark and murderous.
“Alec, we’ve got to stop her bleeding first,” Maxx said knowing exactly how he felt. What they did to her… They had to die.
Asha and Logan took a step back as the three ripped off her clothes, started burning knives and pressing them to open wounds all over her body.
“Sewing kit, I need a sewing kit!” Maxx yelled. Logan ran towards his bathroom and tossed her one. She threaded the needle and went to work on a huge stomach gash.
“Thank God for field med,” Biggs ground out and actually managed something that resembled a smile as he looked at his friend’s tormented face. He had to be strong for him now.
“Jondy can you hear me?” Alec asked lightly touching her face. His heart was still going crazy in his chest. He’d never been more scared, more angry.
“Come on J-J, please say something,” he whispered tears leaking out of his eyes. She wasn’t out of the woods yet. Her breathing was still shallow and her heart beat was weak.
“She could have internal bleeding,” Biggs said.
“She’s a transgenic, she’ll pull through,” Maxx said confidently. “She has too.”
It took a full hour and a half for her to get stabilized.
Maxx walked towards the kitchen and filled a bowl of hot water, wash cloths and a basket Logan kept full of bandages. Alec grabbed a cloth and wiped the blood off her face carefully and put a couple bandages on her forehead and cheeks. He washed up her neck, her shoulders, her arms almost reverently. He wrapped the large cuts and gashes in ace bandages, setting some of the broken bones in place to heal. Soon enough she was laying there, clean, completely bandaged in her underwear.
“Let’s move her into a bedroom. She’ll be more comfortable if she wakes up,” Logan said.
“Not if! When,” Alec said sounding very, very dangerous.
“We’ll do the transfusion in there,” Biggs said.
He looked at the snow white carpet, it was soaked with blood, Alec’s clothes were covered in it too. It was something out of a horror movie.
Alec placed one arm under her knees and another under her back. He carried her into the guest room and Maxx turned down the linens. She almost smiled at the gentle way he was treating her baby sister. It was like he was afraid to touch her.
Biggs slipped a needle into her arm and then placed another one in his arm and watched as the blood ran out into her vein.
“Go home and shower,” he told his friend.
“I don’t want to leave,” he admitted sounding very much like a lost little boy.
“I’m going to be here the entire time. She’s going to be watched over,” Biggs told him.
“Okay,” Alec said uneasily. “I’ll be back soon.”
He gently placed a kiss to her forehead, mumbled something in her ear softly and walked away towards the door. At the last second he looked back as if he wanted to make sure she was okay one last time.
“Hey, you alright?” Asha asked him gently outside the apartment.
“I’m always alright,” he said smirking. “It’s her I’m worried about. See you later,” he said before he sped away.
*
Alec rode his bike down the street hoping to clear his head. Jondy was coming in and out of consiousness. Logan was trying to get her some morphine but supplies were low in hospitals everywhere. She was getting better though. Her heart beat had returned to normal and she even said ‘hello’ to him the other day.
“Excuse me sir would you like to donate to make the-” someone asked Alec. He turned around and saw a rusty old truck and then he looked at Metal Eddie right next to him. White hot fury replaced blood in his veins.
He looked over at Biggs and saw a similar reaction.
These boys were dead and they didn’t even know it.
“Hey, yeah, maybe. Were you the guys that-”
“Almost killed that tranny piece of shit a week ago? Yeah, we made that bitch bleed-” his voice was cut off as a foot was planted in his stomach.
