Hey, sorry about the wait for this part. :>
Chapter 11
“We’re here.” declared Maria as we all looked at the Roswell sign. “Where to?” she asked, obviously wondering who I felt up to facing first. “Let’s go to the caves.” I answered, “And tell the others to join us there.” Telling everyone what had happened was the last thing I felt like doing. But after listening to Maria’s and Serena’s rants on unity all the way home it seemed like the best thing to do.
I walked into the small cave and saw the fresh blasts in the wall and smiled to myself. They really had been practicing. Maria was outside the cave to taking advantage of the limited reception on her cell phone. She was busy telling Michael to get everyone at the cave ASAP. “Well, go over there and wake them up then. We need to discuss some things as a group.”
I sat down on the stone and looked around the room. “This is where they were born?” asked Serena, finding it hard to believe they had hatched out of pods. I could tell she had a million questions she wanted to ask, about what we knew about her Antarian heritage but was trying her best to hold them back for my sake. She sat down beside me on the rock and we both just sat there and waited for Maria to enter the cave.
“Michael’s on his way over to get Max and Isabel.” Maria declared as she joined us in the cave. “I called Alex and he’s going to pick up Kyle and Tess. I hope you don’t mind them coming as well? I didn’t know, but Alex wanted them to come to, he was babbling something about them being his witnesses and a journal. I have no idea what that’s about.”
“Did you tell them that I’m back in Roswell?” I asked Maria, wondering just how much of a shock that they were going to experience when they saw me. “No, I just said it was important. Did you want me to tell them? I’m sorry Liz, it’s just, I don’t know and… Liz?”

I watched as Liz slowly sank off the rock she had been sitting on and crouched on the floor of the cave. She was holding her stomach and tears were coming out of her eyes. “Liz? Oh god, Liz what’s wrong?”
Liz didn’t respond she only looked at me with fear in her eyes. “Liz, speak to me.” I begged, I wished Max and Michael would get here soon. “Is there anything you can do?” I asked Serena, but she merely looked as scared as I felt. “I don’t know, I mean, allusion is really the only thing that came naturally to me, I never tried to heal anything before.”
“Well, you have to try.” I said, and Serena looked doubtful as she began to crouch down beside Liz, but at that moment Alex, Tess and Kyle arrived. “What’s going on?” asked Alex, obviously shocked. He and Kyle just stood shocked in the entryway of the cave, but thankfully Tess sprang into action.
“Why isn’t she in a hospital?” Tess demanded as she walked over to Liz and took her hand and formed a connection. Neither Serena or I answered, we really didn’t know what to say. We all just watched in wonder, to see if Tess would be able to help Liz. Max had been teaching her how to heal, but she was far from a master at it. What seemed like several hours later, but was in reality only several minutes Tess broke the connection.

I looked at Liz’s face and any anger I had ever felt towards her was instantly turned to pity. What I had seen, was heartbreaking, and I soon realized that the tears running down Liz’s face were mirrored on my own. Maria and Alex were demanded of me what was wrong with Liz, if I could help her, but I could barely speak.
“Tess?!” screeched Maria, losing the last grips on non-hysteria. “What’s wrong?”
“She’s miscarrying.” was all I could manage to say.
“Miscarrying? Can’t you help her? Where’s Max? Why isn’t he here? Did you even try?” Maria demanded of me, of anyone there.
“I don’t think there’s anything any of us can do, it’s not physical.” I replied. I didn’t really understand it all, but it seemed as though the baby was vanishing, as if it wasn’t supposed to be there. I remembered the birth announcement, the baby, Clara matched the flashes I had gotten from Liz, flashes of a future that wouldn’t happen, and a baby that wouldn’t be born. “I got flashes from Liz,” I began, realizing the whole group was starring at me shocked, “It was like, the babies whole life was flashing before her eyes. Like some kind of farewell.”

“Get your ass out of bed.” demanded Michael, walking in the window. “I figured Isabel would be the hard one to get up and going, but she’s out in the jeep and sleeping beauty here is still asleep.” I looked at the clock, 1 a.m. “Michael, what’s going on?”
“I don’t know, Maria said for us all to meet up at the cave for a discussion.” I looked at Michael, as if to say all this for a discussion? But he just merely shrugged. I got up and pulled on a sweater and my pair of jeans on the floor from the day before and walked out to the jeep with Michael.
I turned on the jeep and heading out to the caves. These midnight meetings and secret training times were beginning to get a little outrageous. It seems like all we’re doing is preparing for danger these days. “What’s this about?” Isabel asked us from the back of the jeep. “I don’t know.” answered Michael, “Probably just Maria wanting to update us all on the Liz situation.” I couldn’t help touching my foot to the gas when I heard Michael say that. “I don’t see why we need to know that.” replied Isabel. “Especially at 1 a.m in the morning.” she added. “You should of asked her what this all was about so I could have at least stayed home.”
I just focused on driving and tried not to think about Liz. It seemed like a longer drive then usual, and I was relieved when I finally arrived at the caves. That feeling didn’t last very long, because before I was out of the jeep Maria was running out of the caves toward me. “Max, oh thank god, we need you. Liz, she’s…”
I didn’t even wait for Maria to finish her sentence, Liz was in the cave, and she was in trouble. “Just like at the café.” Michael mumbled under his breath.
I found Liz huddled in the corner, with Alex and another girl I didn’t know holding her hands. Oddly enough, Tess seemed the most upset out of the whole group. I ran towards her, but Tess grabbed my arm, “Max, don’t.” was all she said. “You can’t do anything, and, it’s hard to forget.”
“I have to try.” was all I said as Alex and the other girl moved away from Liz and I went to take her hand in my own, but she pulled away from me. “Max, don’t.” was all she whispered to me, and I felt like someone had slapped me across the face. “Let me help you.” I begged her. She merely shook her head, before another torment of tears racked her. We all just sat there helplessly, watching what she was going through.

The images finally stopped, and I felt a feeling of peace pass over me. Clara was no more meant to be with me now, than the future I had destroyed was meant to be. But she was a person that was destined to be born, and she would be in my future. I couldn’t explain why or how I knew this, but I felt it. I looked at the group around me, they were all looking at me with concern. It had been too long since I had been with them, and now, after all I had seen, I certainly could use friends like them
“I’m okay now.” was all I managed to say. I don’t think it was the truth, I had just seen my daughters life pass before my eyes. Or at least the life she could have lived. I was still shaking from the images I had seen and the emotions that came with them. Clara, being kidnapped, how scared she had been. I had felt it so sharply. Her running from Kivar, but just not being able to make it.
“You’re okay? What about the baby?” asked Maria, and her concern about Clara went to my heart. “She’s gone.” was all I could say, the words catching in my throat. I suddenly felt empty without Clara’s presence.
“Gone? But there’s no blood or anything, I mean, how can you know?” asked Alex, looking at me curiously. “Because, I’ve had someone I love just disappear into thin air before.” I responded, not caring if I would only give them more questions. “Like father, like daughter.”
“Who is the father?” asked Max, looking straight into my eyes. “Was the father.” I corrected him, feeling my insides ache. “What was the father?” Max repeated softer, he needed to know, having obviously picked up on the fact that I wasn’t just talking about some deadbeat Dad by the disappearing comment. “Um.. well, there was , a visitor and…” Why can’t I just say it?
“Forget it then.” Max interrupted me, while I was trying to find the words to tell him he was the father. “I’m sorry Liz, but when you won’t even let me help you, I can’t just watch this happen to you, and then you won’t tell me anything. I can’t take it. I need to, to get out of here.” I watched him walk towards the door of the cave. “Max, don’t go.” I whispered, “I need you.”
“Need me? Then why won’t even let me help you Liz?” Max looked at me and I could tell from his angst ridden expression that he was still in love with me. That’s all I needed to see to go on. “I was trying to protect you, that’s all I’ve ever been doing. I didn’t want you to see what I was seeing. It’s hard watching your daughter die Max.”
“Maybe I could have saved her.”
“You already have saved her. You saved her from a life full of terror and uncertainty. And then you even made sure that she was born in our time. You didn’t know that this would happen.”
