Chapter 11
Liz watched nervously as Max’s mouth opened and closed several times while gripping the doorhandle tightly. She sat back down on the bed dejectedly and struggled with the tears that swelled up when simply just turned and shut the door.
Diane reached over and place her hand over hers, before she could say anything the door flew open again.
“I’m not seeing things’ he said hoarsely.
“Max’ Liz whispered out standing up to face him again.
‘You’re really here’ he said unbelievably.
Liz nodded her head ‘yes I’m really here’.
She gasped when she saw his shocked expression turn to one of coldness ‘Get out’ he said.
‘Max’ Diane exclaimed.
‘You aren’t welcomed here get out’ he stated.
She watched as the muscles in his neck strained with tension, his jaw was set tight and those eyes that once looked at her with love burned with fire and hatred.
“Max your acting like a child, stop it’ Diane ordered.
He scoffed ‘a child...I”m not the one who made everyone think they were dead’ he looked at Liz ‘you have no right to come here now...leave...go back to where ever the hell you were’ he yelled.
Liz didn’t reply, she just let out a sob covering her face as she bolted out of the door. She didn’t stop running until she was inside the old apartment again. She slid down resting her back on the door and burying her head into her knees and just sobbed.
She wasn’t sure how long she sat there crying, brining herself to her feet she wiped her eyes and peeked out the door. The sun was just beginning to set, she would wait until tomorrow and try to the lights turned back on.
She wasn’t going to go anywhere anytime soon, she decided she was going to be there for Diane. After everything she did for her she deserved to have her help her anyway she could and Max Evans be dammed.
Liz dug around in her backpack grabbing her flashlight, she went on the hunt for a hammer. She figured if she took the boards off the windows it would let some light in. She wasn’t even sure if she still owned this place but at the moment she just didn’t care. She found an old wooden hammer inside one of the drawers, the wood was splinting and it was rusted, she would just have to make due.
Once she completed all the other windows she stood in front of the last door shaking, this was it she thought its time to face her demons once and for all. She put her hand on the doorknob staring at the lights from the flashlight as it danced over her trembling fingers. Liz wouldn’t look at the closet as she walked straight to the window.
Getting the board off was harder that she thought, it was a stubborn thing and she pulled with all her might winding up on her butt and causing the flashlight to roll under the bed. Cursing under her breath she rolled over onto her stomach looking under the bed. She grabbed the flashlight and in the process something caught her eye.
Pulling it out slowly she noticed it was a long box that had been tapped up several times, she stared at it for a few minutes wondering how she never noticed it before when she was here.
Angling the flashlight so she could see she reached for the box and started peeling the tape off.
Tears sprung to her eyes when she noticed all of the contents were her belongings from over the years, everything her uncle had taken from her was stored in the box. She thought he had thrown it all away.
She picked up the doll Mrs. Evans had given her a long time ago for her birthday, fingering the curly hair on the doll anger swarmed inside her. Hatred for the man that was suppose to take care of her, loath for the man that was supposed to shelter her.
Gripping the hammer in her hand she stood up dropping the doll to the floor and walking to the closet door. She raised her hand and pummeled the door ‘I HATE YOU’ she shouted.
‘YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO LOVE ME’ the door splintered against her hits.
‘YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO TAKE CARE OF ME’ the tears streamed down her face as she continued to pound on the door.
‘I WAS A CHILD...YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO TEACH ME’ the hole continued to get bigger, so big that you could see inside the closet. Her hand was starting to bleed from gripping it so tight, the splinters from the handle digging into her skin.
‘I DID EVERYTHING YOU ASKED...WHY COULDN’T YOU LOVE ME’ she hit it until she tired herself out. ‘WHY’ she dropped to her knees the hammer falling to her side as she covered her face with her hands crying out.
She jumped when she felt a hand come down on her shoulder, falling back on her butt she looked up into a pair of warm brown eyes that were once cold earlier.
‘You’re bleeding’ he said softly bending down to her level.
Liz wiped her eyes with the back of her hand ‘what are you doing here Max’ she asked.
He stood back up shoving his hands into his pockets ‘I got a phone call saying someone was breaking into here’.
‘Why would they call you’.
‘Because I’m the one who’s holding the papers for it’ he answered.
‘So what your going to have me arrested now, didn’t do enough damage at your house’ she stood up and walked past him into the bathroom
He followed her and watched as she tried to turn on the faucets, she cursed under her breath when the water didn’t come on.
‘I wouldn’t do that Liz’
She turned and faced him ‘why not, it’s where I belong isn’t it, I don’t belong here so jail must be the only place’.
‘I’m sorry I said all those things...I was in shock. I thought I would never see you again’. She looked up into his eyes and could tell he was fighting with his emotions. She put her head down ‘Look I’m sorry okay but I didn’t have any other choice’.
‘If you would have just waited until my mother or I to get home-
‘Waited...waited Max, you father was going to have me arrested’ she screamed.
‘I”m sorry’ was all he said.
She shook her head and walked past him back into the room ‘you don’t have anything to be sorry for’.
“I should have stood up to him better, I should have defended you more’.
‘It wouldn’t have mattered, he hated me and he probably had every right too, after all I am a murderer. I shot my uncle and I’m the reason my parents are dead’.
‘Liz-
‘I heard you and your mother that night Max, I know what happened’ she said.
‘Then you know it wasn’t your fault Liz, it was that man who decided to drink then get behind the wheel’ he started walking towards her.
‘I was the selfish one who just had to go home’ she said wiping a tear that slipped. God how much more could she cry she thought.
Max walked closer to her ‘you were just a little girl Liz’ he reached up with shaky fingers and cupped her cheek wiping away another tear with the pad of his thumb. ‘You are not responsible for what happened’.
She nodded her head even though she didn’t agree on the inside, she was too busy trembling from standing that close to him. She could smell his cologne and she wanted to drown in it. She didn’t remember him ever smelling this good before.
He picked up her injured hand and both of them trembled together ‘come back to the house with me os we can take care of this’ he said softly. She watched his fingers dance over her palms and she shivered from his touch. She nodded her head slowly to memorized to do anything else.
Letting go of her hand he took a step back and let her lead the way out, watching her as she gathered her belongings and locked the door. Once they were inside the jeep they rode in silence until he looked at her ‘why were you hitting the closet’ he asked.
She turned and stared out the window ‘I don’t want to talk about it’
‘Okay’ he answered softly and didn’t say another word as they continued to drive, both of them lost in their own thoughts listening to the radio.
The first time I laid my eyes on you I knew,
We'd spend this life side by side.
I still feel the same though your so far away,
I swear that you'll always be my....
Forever love
I promise you,
someday we'll be together,
Forever love.
I won't give up.
No matter what...
I'll be waiting for you
Forever love...
Minutes and hours and years may go by,
but my heart knows nothing of time.
So don't cry just keep me right there in your dreams.
And hold on to these words of mine...
Forever love

Chapter 12
Liz sat at the island alternating between staring at the back of Max’s head and the entrance to the kitchen. Missy told her he was gone, but she kept expecting Phillip to come barging into the kitchen and throwing her out on her ass.
Her eyes drifted back to Max who was currently making them something to eat. He had yet to say anything else since they go to his house, besides asking her if she was hungry. She was starving but at the same time she felt like if she ate something she would throw it back up. After all the crying she did today all she really wanted to do was sleep.
She wondered if he would bring her back to the Crash down later, or would he offer her to stay here. Could she stay, was it wrong to feel funny sitting in this house even with Phillip gone. Max walked forward and set a bowl of soup down in front of her ‘Its not much, Isabel does most of the cooking now and she cooks like my mother’ he gave a small smile and sat down across from her.
‘Thank you ‘she replied picking up a spoon and starting to eat. The y both sat in silence stealing glances at each other. Not being able to stand it any longer he set his spoon down ‘what made you decided to come back now’ he asked.
Liz placed her spoon down on the counter and looked up ‘I ran into Missy, actually she ran into me. She came into the café I’m working at, she told me she was going to school there’.
‘You live in Boston’ he asked surprised.
She nodded her head ‘Missy told me about your mom, your mom has done so much for me I didn’t want her to think it was her fault I ran away. Missy told me she blamed herself and it wasn’t her fault at all’.
‘All this time you were so close’ she head him whisper, she reached across placing her hand on top of his. He snapped his head up and she withdrew her hand. “Max I’m sorry for the way I ran off back then, I was scared and a lot of things were going on. I know it was probably the cowards way out, but I felt like I had no other choice’.
Max nodded his head ‘I know and I’m sorry for putting more pressure on you’.
Liz looked at him ‘what are you talking about, you weren’t the reason I ran’ so it wasn’t the total truth, she couldn’t tell him he was part of it. She wasn’t any good for him and he would have learned that if she stayed.
‘I’m talking about that kiss, I shouldn’t have did it. You were going through so much already and-
She cut him off ‘Max it was five years ago, I know now it was one of those caught up in the middle kind of thing. You felt sorry for me’.
“Is that what you think it was’ he asked.
She nodded her head, he sat there staring at her for a moment then stood up quickly ‘your right its in the past’ taking the empty bowls he walked over to the sink and started rinsing them out.
Liz nibbled on her bottom lip trying to figure out what other reason there would be. There was no way he could of had feelings for her, she was just his best friend.
Max turned back towards her ‘you can go see my mother if you like, I’ll take your things to the spare bedroom’.
‘You want me to stay here’ she asked standing up and pushing the stool back.
‘Where else are you going to stay’.
‘Oh...I was just going to go back to the apartment if that’s okay with you’ she said.
Max walked forward ‘Liz you own that place, don’t think you have to ask permission to stay there. I’m only holding the paperwork, your name is on the deed.
‘It’s mine’ she repeated
‘Why wouldn’t it be’.
Liz shrugged her shoulders ‘I just thought with everything that happened...I guess it would have been torn down or something’.
‘As you can see it’s not, and you can do whatever you want with it. Tomorrow I can take you to get the lights turned on, but your welcome to stay here as long as you like’ he answered turning the kitchen light off.
“Thank you...I guess I’ll go see your mother now’ she told him then left him standing in the dark kitchen.
An hour later she closed the door promising Diane she would still be there in the morning when she woke up. She noticed it was quiet and wondered if Max and Isabel went to bed already. Her body demanded sleep but her mind was too restless, a dim light coming from underneath the study door caught her attention and she walked to the closed door.
Pushing it open she called out a soft hello, when noone answered she crept fully into the room. Tears sprung to her eyes as walked towards the window, sitting on the sill was a candle burning brightly. With shaky fingers she let her fingers glide along the hot wax melting along the sides.
She saw his reflection before she heard him, turning abruptly she found him staring at her ‘what are you doing in here’ he asked.
She wiped her fingers on her jeans ‘I’m sorry I saw the light and I thought someone was in here’.
Max closed the door behind him and walked closer to her ‘I’m the only one who comes in here’.
‘I’ll leave’ she said and started walking towards the door, he reached out and took hold of her arm softly, she stared down at his fingers as he whispered ‘you don’t have to’.
She looked up into his eyes ‘you kept a candle lite’ she asked. He nodded his head slowly and let go of her arm. He walked over to the window and stared out at the night sky ‘I wanted you to know that I remembered. That if you were looking down that you would see that I was still thinking about you’.
‘Max’ she whispered.
‘Guess it doesn’t matter anymore does it, your not dead’ her heart broke as he bent down to blow out the candle.
‘Why did you kiss me that day’ she blurted out halting his actions.
Max stood straight and turned to face her, his eyes staring straight into hers ‘you know why’.
She shook her head ‘no...no I don’t. Why did you have to kiss me, why when it was clear I was no good for you’.
‘Liz’ he started and stepped forward only to have her take a step back.
‘No...I killed someone Max, I killed my own blood...when everyone else could see the worthless person I am you stayed...why’ she asked her whole body trembling now.
‘You had everything going for you, why would you risk it. Your father was right I am nothing but trouble’.
He took three steps and grabbed her forearms ‘Liz...Liz look at me’ when she didn’t raise her head, he took her chin in his hand ‘look at me’. She raised her eyes to see the same painful look in his eyes ‘you are not worthless...you hear me. You were the one thing in my life that was pure and true’
She shook her head relentlessly ‘yes...yes you were’ he argued ‘I kissed you that day because I was in love with you’.
Her eyes widen but he didn’t let her say anything ‘I kissed you that day because I was tired of hiding my feelings, I didn’t care if my father found out, I was ready to take that risk.
What happened with your uncle, it was self defense and that bastard got what he deserved. He had no reason to hit you that night and I wish I would have been there because I would have pulled the trigger myself’ he finished with tears in his eyes.
‘Max’ she cried.
Their knees gave out and they both fell to the floor, he looked up at her with tears streaming down his face ‘why’ he cried ‘why did you leave me...why did you break my heart’ he sobbed.
Her cries turned into sobs ‘there’s so much you don’t know’.
He reached up cupping her face in his hands ‘then tell me...tell me why’.
She shook her head ‘I can’t she cried.
‘Why...what are you so afraid of, your uncle, my father, they can’t hurt you anymore’.
‘Because’ she yanked her head from his hands.
‘Because why’ he yelled.
She stood up suddenly ‘because I’m ashamed okay’ she sobbed out turning her back on him she wiped her face on her shirt ‘I’m ashamed’ she repeated as she hugged herself.
He hung his head as she whispered ‘please don’t ask me about it...please just let it be’. He closed his eyes willing himself to calm down, sniffing and wiping his eyes he stood up ‘okay you win’ and walked out the door leaving her alone.

I am so sorry that this took so long, RL has been hetic these last two weeks. Construction started on my house and between that, work and the awards at Memories I have had no time at all. I am not happy with this chapter at all but if I played with it anymore it would probably be another three weeks before I got it out.
Thank you all so much for the feedback, and I wanted to let you know I am doing an authors chat at Dreaming Amontg The Stars on this Wednesday at 9pm est. I hope you can make it.

Chapter 13
Opening her eyes and stretching she cringed at the sharp pain in her neck. She didn’t remember falling asleep in the chair, but then again she hadn’t really slept in two days. The morning after her incident with Max in the study, Diane took a turn for the worse and had to be rushed to the hospital.
They had been here ever since, the doctors said it didn’t look good and doubted that she would live past the week. She looked across the room and her eyes widened seeing Missy sitting with Max. She watched as they leaned close and were whispering. All of a sudden she felt a pang inside her heart and scolded herself for feeling that way.
She felt like an outsider then realized that she really was one, she missed so much of the life she could of had if she had stayed here. Feeling stupid now because she noticed they were watching her watch them. Missy offered her a smile and said something to Max before getting up and walking over to her.
Sitting up straight she smoothed out her crumpled hair giving a small smile when Missy sat down next to her ‘Hi Liz’ she said.
‘Hi’ she answered ‘did Max call you?’
Missy shook her head no ‘Isabel did. I’m glad that you came back here, when I went to the diner they had told me you had went on a vacation I had hoped that you came here and you did’
“I am too, thank you for telling me about Diane, I don’t know what I would have done if I had been too late’ she said sadly.
Missy placed her hand on top of hers ‘I understand Liz and I’m glad that you got the chance to let her know you were alive...and a chance to say goodbye. I know she really blamed herself a lot when you left and I’m happy that she knows the truth’.
‘You two much have really gotten close’ Liz stated.
‘Not really, Max told me a lot of what happened, I was the one he talked to the most that is when I could get him to talk. Which was like pulling teeth half of the time’.
Liz put her head down ‘thank you for being there for him, I am happy he had someone to turn too’ she said feeling sick inside.
‘Liz no one blames you for running, I think I would have done the same thing if I was in your shoes, no one should of had to deal with that. The most important thing is that you are here now’ Missy said.
Liz nodded her head ‘I’m going to go use the restroom’ she said getting up not wanting anyone to see her cry, she walked swiftly to the bathroom.
Once there she stared at herself in the mirror, she was so pathetic she thought. Crying at every little thing ‘Get a grip’ she told herself ‘now is not the time for self pity’.
Washing her face with some cold water she dried it off with a paper towel, then combing her hair with her fingers the best she could she turned and made her way for the door ready to face the world again.
Walking with quick strides, she turned the corner and ran smack into someone. Stumbling back she caught herself before she fell on her butt, she looked up into her worst nightmare.
His eyes widened while hers clouded with fear for a moment before she drew herself upright and dared him with her eyes to say something. She was ready to face him now.
“Liz’ he replied shocked ‘when did you come back’ he asked.
‘Mr. Evans’ she replied cooly ‘not that its any of your business but I’ve been back for a week’.
He folded his arms across his chest ‘ah we grew a backbone while we were away haven’t we”.
‘You don’t scare me anymore’.
He shook his head ‘ahh Liz I never wanted you scared of me...I simply just didn’t want you around’ he stated coldly.
‘What did I ever do to you’ she asked, she could feel the tears swelling up but she refused to let them fall especially in front of him.
‘Do I really have to spell it out for you, tell me something how do you live with yourself know you killed someone, how can you stand to look in the mirror knowing you killed your own blood’ he sneered.
‘It was self defense’ she defended.
‘Do you really think daddy would see it that way if he were alive, you murdered his brother. I don’t think he would be happy with that’.
She clenched her fist tight ‘how can you stand there with so much haterd. I never did anything to you, all I ever wanted was acceptence, you were my parents best friend, HOW DO YOU think they would feel knowing that thier best friend would treat thier daughter this way’.
She didn’t let him say anything ‘My parents admired you and trusted you to look after me. You played on a little girls emotions and made her believe that she was the reason her parents were dead’.
She stepped closer to him ‘well let me tell you something Mr. Evans, I am not that naive little girl anymore, my parents death were not my fault. My so called Uncle got what he deserved, he was no better than you... the only differnce was he used his hands to get his point across.
You can hate me for all I care, nothing you say or do can make me see differently, because at the end of day I know I am wanted and there is someone that believes in me...can you say the same’.
‘But your forgetting something Liz, at the end of the day it doesn’t change the fact of what you are and what you always be and that is a murderer.
It doesn’t matter how many people” he quoted with his fingers ‘believe in you, you picked up a gun and shot someone . I only want what’s best for my family and that’s having you no where near any of them, what’s to stop you from shooting any of them’
She didn’t answer she just took off running down the hall, brushing past Max as he called out after her, she could hear him yelling at Phillip before disappearing out the doors. She ran all the way to the cemetery dropping down to her knees in front of her parents tombstones and burying her face in her hands.
She felt a pair of arms wrap around her bringing her close she laid her head in the crook of his neck as she continued to cry ‘shh’ he soothed rubbing the back of her head. She felt him place a kiss on the top of her head ‘I’m sorry’ he said.
‘I’m so sorry, I had no idea he was going to show up there’ he whispered rocking her gently back and forth, she tightened her grip on him and tried to get herself under control. Phillips words still ringing in her ear. She squeezed her eyes shut ,no she told herself she wasn’t going to let him get to her.
She wondered if Max thought that way about her, that it didn’t matter what had happened, did he see her as the killer his father did. That thought terrified her and she knew then and there that it was time.
Taking a deep breath she opened her eyes and stared at her parent’s tombstones as he continued to hold her and rock her she began ‘He used to lock me in that closet’.

Here you go, not really happy with it but hated to leave you guys with nothing. I'm at work right now so can't really reply to everyone's feedback, thank you guys for being patient
Chapter 14
Liz stayed staring at the graves as she recounted every horrible thing her uncle had done ‘Those days that I missed school and everyone though I was sick…I wasn’t sick’ she swallowed hard ‘I was locked in that closet’.
She felt him tightening his grip as he whispered out her name painfully, she sniffed ‘I was ashamed because he would lock me in there for a couple of days and I would wind up going to the bathroom on myself. I couldn’t get out, he would make me stay in there sleeping in my own pee and then I would have to scrub the closet when he finally decided to let me out’.
She cried harder ‘and how…how could I tell anyone, he was all I had left. I had to stay because I couldn’t fail my parents. It was the only thing I had left of them. I tried…I tried so hard to make him happy. I did everything he asked, why…why couldn’t he just love me’ she sobbed.
“Liz’ he whispered his heart already broken was breaking more, why the hell couldn’t he tell what was going on, was he really that blind to the fact that she was going through pure hell. He felt like an asshole for not noticing how bad things really were.
‘Max’ they looked up to see a teary eyed Missy standing there, by the look on her face they knew something had happened.
‘You…you need to go back to the hospital’ she cried.
“How long’ he whispered closing his eyes as the tears rolled down.
‘Fifteen minutes’ she said softly ‘I’m so sorry Max’.
He nodded his head bringing it down he rested it in his hands letting out a muffled whimper.
Liz locked eyes with Missy and a silent understanding between them; Missy walked back to the car. Liz wrapped her arms around him now comforting him “I’m so sorry Max…I’m sorry that you had to come after me’.
“Don’t’ he cried out.
‘It’s true, if I hadn’t ran out of there with my stupid insecurities you could have…you should have been with her instead of me. You should have had more time to spend with her, I was supposed to be here for you and I managed to turn it around and make it about me’ she sobbed.
He pulled back to look into her eyes “I’m where I want to be Liz, you don’t know how much it means to me that you came back, that you are here now opening up to me like I wanted you to do all those years again. I want you to stay Liz, stay here in Roswell with me’ he stated.
‘I’ll never leave you again’ she vowed pulling him back into her embrace, this time they comforted each other instead of one comforting the other.
When their cries finally turned into sniffles, Liz pulled back ‘we need to go to the hospital, I’m sure Isabel needs you’ he nodded his head and stood up offering his hand to her, she accepted and they walked silently back to the car.
They reached the hospital and he reached for her hand, she slipped hers into his giving him a reassuring squeeze that she was there. Once inside the waiting room the found Isabel sitting in a chair with her face buried in her hands.
Max let go of her hand and went to his sister, calling out her name softly she raised her head and immediately stood up throwing her arms around him and burying her head in his shoulders.
Liz stood back silently watching, she felt a warm hand slide into hers and looked to see Missy smiling softly at her, she motioned with her head to follow her. Leaving the grieving sister and brother alone they walked toward the cafeteria. Liz sat down at a table as Missy went to get them a cup of coffee.
She scrubbed at her tired eyes, she wondered what it was about Roswell that made her cry so freaking much, she never cried like this when she left. Now it was like she was bawling baby at every little thing.
Missy set the cup down in front of her ‘are you okay…I know this is hard for you too’ she asked.
Liz nodded her head replying “Yes I’m just tired, why is it that the people who deserve to die…live, and the good hearted ones always get taken away…God I’m just so sick of everyone I love being taken from me’.
‘They always say God works in mysterious ways’ Missy replied taking a sip of coffee.
‘Well his way sucks’ Liz said, and then sighed ‘I’m sorry I know I probably shouldn’t have said that’
‘Its okay Liz, you’re allowed to get angry’.
‘I know I just feel bad because Max should have been here saying goodbye to his mother, instead of dealing with me. I should have never let Phillip get to me the way he did’.
‘Liz I’m sure Max was where he wanted to be, I’m sure he said his goodbyes and Phillip I believe will get his one day. He’s an arrogant bastard who just won’t let go of the past. It’s really sad if you think about, being so hung up on the past that you miss out on the now in life’.
Liz raised her eyebrow.
Missy chuckled ‘well maybe it’s not sad where he is concerned”.
Liz placed her hand on top of Missy’s ‘I’m really glad you’re here Missy’.
Missy smiled ‘thank you, it really means a lot coming from you; I was really sorry back then that we never got the chance to know each other. I think we could have been really good friends’.
‘Well we have the time now’ Liz smiled.
After finishing their coffee Liz stood up ‘We should get back upstairs’. They both walked upstairs to find Max and Phillip standing toe to toe in a heated argument.
‘I don’t care…I said leave’ Max yelled.
Phillip pointed his finger in Max’s face ‘I am still your father young man; you watch how you talk to me. No matter what you might think, I still loved your mother very much’.
‘You don’t know how to love’ Max stated harshly ‘You may be on my birth certificate but in my eyes you died along time ago. He pushed past Phillip and ran out of the waiting room leaving everyone stunned. Isabel started crying harder and Missy went to her putting her arms around her.
Tears streamed down Liz’s face, she quickly wiped them away and stood with her back straight walking forward she stood directly in front of Phillip who was now sitting in a chair.
‘Tell me something Mr. Evans, is hating me really worth it all. I guess in the end we are not so different, both don’t know how to let go of things, and both desperately wanting some to love us. Learn to let go of the past Mr. Evans because there’s nothing worse than being alone. I know I’ve been there.
Max is angry right now but he’ll come around, start appreciating what you do have and put what you don’t in the past where it belongs before you find yourself missing out on what’s left of your life’ she turned and left the waiting room to find Max.
Thirty minutes later she found him at home staring out the window ‘hey’ she said softly coming to stand behind him. He turned to look at her and she could he had been crying again.
“I’m sorry’ he started, she put her finger on his lips ‘its okay I understand’.
He nodded his head, reaching up he grabbed her finger pulling her to the front of him, he turned her around resting her back against his front as he looked out the window ‘I stared out this window so many times growing up, I would always beg the stars to send you back to me’.
She closed her eyes “I’m sorry’
‘Shh that’s not what this is about; I would get so angry when you wouldn’t come. Then one night I was looking up there and thinking about you and all of a sudden this star just started shining brighter, brighter than any of the others. I felt this calm wash over me and it was like it was a sign that wherever you were; you were thinking about me’.
“I was’ she said ‘there wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t think of you’.
He placed a kiss on top of her head ‘same here’
‘Why are you telling me all this’ she asked out of curiosity.
He pointed up at the night sky, and she looked up instead of one brightly shining star there was two. She turned and looked at him smiling “I was thinking about my mother’ he said.
She nodded her head and stepped away from the window; he watched her walk over and grabs something off the bookcase. He smiled when he saw her holding the candle and lighter, placing it in the window she looked at him ‘I think you should light it’
‘Together’ he stated and placed his hand over hers, together they lit the candle and stayed watching out the window for a little while longer. ‘We should probably get some sleep’ Liz stated stepping away and taking his hand.
He stopped her movements with a tug, she looked back at him ‘stay with me in my room tonight’ he asked.
Liz nibbled on her bottom lip ‘I’m not expecting anything to happen, I just…I just don’t want to be alone tonight’ he said.
‘Okay’ she whispered letting him take the lead bringing them to his bedroom.

HI all I know I'm terrible.. The only thing I can say in my defense is that I have been really busy with this new job and the house, things are picking up and finally moving along.. Just need to get carpet and cabinets and I can finally go home.
Secondly...I decided to end this fic here. to be honest I backed myself in a corner with it and I just dont see it going any further from here. So hopefully I have ended it at a good place with this chapter.
For those that are interested I do have another story going on that you can only find here at my site in the Sneek Peek Section. The story is not posted any where else. Those reading Guilty I am working on the next part and will get it out as soon as I can.
If the last half of this is bad I am so sorry.. I worked on the first part and the last part at two different times and I winded up firstly writing the lat part in first person instead of third so had to go back and try to correct it..I'm such a ditz sometimes.
I want to thank you all for your patience and feedback with this story.

Chapter 15
They laid silently side by side in the darkness of the room only the faint glow from the streetlight shined through the curtains.
Max laid on his side his head propped up on his hand ‘what are you thinking about’ he asked.
Liz turned to face him mirroring his position ‘I was thinking that I would like to stay and re-open my parent’s café’.
He could tell there was hesitation in her voice ‘but’ he questioned?
“ I don’t want to stay in the apartment, there is too many bad memories for me there, I was thinking about renting it out while I find another apartment somewhere’.
He reached over with his hand a push a strand of hair back lingering on the tip of it ‘you could stay here with me’ he stated.
Her eyes got wide ‘what about school?’
‘As long as you here, I don’t want to go back’.
She sat up clutching the blanket ‘Max, no! I won’t let you drop out of school’.
He sat up with her ‘I want to be with you Liz, I just found you again and I don’t want to take the chance that I will lose you again’.
She took his hands in hers ‘You won’t I swear to you that I’ll still be here when you get back’.
He was silent for a minute before he whispered ‘promise me something’.
She nodded her head.
He took a deep breath than forged ahead ‘promise that you’ll live here while I’m gone and when I finish school in two years...you’ll marry me.’
‘Wh...what’ she asked blinking her eyes rapidly, her heart started pounding in her chest, surely she didn’t hear what he just asked.
‘Liz I love you, I’ve always loved you and I don’t want to waste any more time, you are the one I want to grow old with...say you’ll marry me’ he said softly.
She was having a hard time processing it all ‘Max we know nothing about each other, It’s been ten years...how can you be so sure?’
He picked up her hand rubbing his thumb softly over the back of it before placing it over his heart ‘Because I know it in here...I feel it in here’.
She started to protest, he quickly put his finger on her lips ‘you don’t have to give me an answer this second, we can take these two years and get to know each other again.’
‘How when you are going to be so far away?’
‘I’ll come home as often as I can, we can email and talk on the phone. Please say you will give this a chance...give us a chance. Our time was stolen from us before Liz, I don’t want to miss out again’.
He reached up and wiped the tear with his thumb that had escaped her eye, she bit her bottom lip staring into his eyes. She slowly nodded her head ‘okay’ she whispered out ‘I’ll do it’.
He leaned in and softly kissed her lips ‘I love you’ he whispered.
‘I love you’ she whispered back.
They both laid back down she resting her head on his chest with his hand drifting lazily up and down her back ‘there’s something else too’ she said cautiously.
‘What is it?’
‘I want you to make amends with your father’
His hand stilled and before he could say anything she looked up at him ‘hear me out please’.
He looked down at her ‘I know your father has done and said a lot of things, mostly towards me and I should hate him...but I don’t’.
He raised an eyebrow at her ‘He was just doing what he thought was best for you.. He was being a father, you don’t know how lucky you really are. I never had that, my parents were taken from me before their time.
If something was to happen to him, I don’t want you to regret not being able to make things right with him. Despite what you think I know he loves you and was only looking out for you”.
‘I don’t know’ he started to say.
‘Just think about it okay’ she asked.
‘Okay’ he stated.
He tightened his grip on her and soon they both fell asleep holding each other closely.
A couple of days later
Liz sat next to Max as they made their way to the cemetery, She kept thinking that it was too pretty outside to be having a funeral. They should be at the park enjoying the sun or having a nice barque in the back yard.
Max hadn’t said much today not that she really expected him too. He lost his mother and she knew it was killing him on the inside, even though on the outside he was trying to present a brave front. He was leaving in a couple of days to go back to school and Liz couldn’t stop thinking about his proposal.
Half of her was screaming its too soon to be making those kinds of life changing decisions, while the other half screamed you already lost too much time don’t lose anymore and to just grab him and hold on tight.
She knew to the depths of her soul that she loved him and wanted to be with him, and after his words she had no doubt that he loved her.
Strangely enough Isabel agreed to help her get the café open and running again. She wasn’t ready to go back to school yet.
They pulled up and the door opened, Max climbed out and took a deep breath. Stepping beside him Liz slipped her hand into his and give him a small squeeze, he looked down and gave her a soft smile.
The ceremony went off nicely, Liz was amazed at the amount of people who have showed up. Some looked at them in sympathy while others looked shocked to see her there.
A small part of her felt funny being here, She was just the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She was in the mix of all these rich and powerful people, but then she realized so what! She wasn’t there to please them.
Afterwards as they are leaving Liz spots Mr. Evans standing by her parent’s grave site ‘do you want me to come with you’ Max asks as she pick up the flowers they had bought for them.
She shook her head ‘I’ll be okay. Isabel needs you more right now’ he hesitates for a minute looking back over at his father, She leaned up and kissed his lips softly ‘I’ll be okay’ I reassure.
She made her way to her parents site, ignoring Mr. Evans Liz placed the flowers down kissing the tips of her fingers and placing them on top of each of their tombstones.
‘You were their pride and joy’ he says startling her. She looked up to see him with his hands shoved deep in his pockets and a look of regret on his face.
He went off into a memory not really caring if she wanted to hear it or not ‘I remember the day your dad found out your mother was pregnant. We were having a barbecue at your house, Diane was already six month pregnant.
Your mother and Diane were trying to knit booties, I remember your dad making some kind of comment about them and your mother replied they were for you”. He chuckles a little ‘Your dad was so stunned he winded up backing himself into the pool’.
Liz crossed her arms around her waist reaching up she wiped away the tear that has fell ‘I never knew that’ she whispered out.
‘When you were born you had your father wrapped around your little finger, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. Your sister was a sunrise but they both loved you both very much’.
Liz looked across the grass to see Max talking to Missy and his sister, he looked up and his eyes catch hers. He looks between his father and her asking silently if things are okay. She gave him a small smile letting him know she was.
“Why are you telling me all of this’ Liz turned and ask Mr. Evans.
‘You can say that I realized you were right the other day, I was too busy blaming you for what happened that I failed to realize what you were going through ,what my own family was going through.
I don’t want the rest of my life to be on bad terms with my children. It’s too late to fix things with Diane, but hopefully it wont be that way with them. I don’t want to miss out on anything more’.
‘They both love you, I’m sure they will forgive you’ she says tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “I should be going’ She turned and started making her way to Max.
‘Liz’ Mr. Evans called out halting her.
She turned to look back at him ‘I know its too late to say I’m sorry for the things I have said and done in the past, but I am and I hope that one day you might be able to forgive me’.
Liz looked up into his eyes and could tell he’s sincere ‘Your right’ I say ‘It’s too late, but I’m willing to put aside my differences for that man over there’. She left him standing there as she walked back towards Max, he smiles a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes but it doesn’t stop the love she sees in them.
Later that night she thought about everything that had happened up to this point in her life. She may not know what her future holds, but as she leaned back and Max wrapped his arms around her kissing the top of her head as they stared out the window looking at the night sky. She knew what she wanted her future to be. She want to be with Max.
Max pulled away and took her hand to lead her to bed, She looked up at the sky one last time and saw the stars were shining brighter than before, She had to think their mothers agreed.
