Part 13

Maria followed Isabel’s directions, as they got further away from down town Laramie.

It was almost dark when they arrived and Maria was extremely exhausted form driving in the SUV all day.

Liz and Max were napping in the back at some points she swore that Liz seemed to be glowing, but before Maria could check and be sure the glow was gone.

Maria was nervous, not because she was to see Ava or because their was some mysterious person with Ava, but because of the way Isabel looked.

Isabel was very pale and she was constantly twisting her hands together or running her hands through her hair.

After two years on the road with Isabel and three years of semi friendship before that, Maria knew that the Ice Queen was barely holding it together.

Maria wanted to know what it was that was putting Isabel in this state.

She pulled up to the hotel and sighed at finally reaching their destination.

She hoped they could just get rooms for the night and then crash.

Maria was positive she didn’t have any energy left for a meeting.

Isabel climbed out of the car and Maria could see her visibly trembling now.

She turned to wake Max and Liz and as she touched them she got a shock.

It was her actually yelp that startled them both awake.

For having just taken a two-hour nap Max still looked tired to Maria. Maria almost missed the glazed look to Liz’s eye before Liz shook her head. Maria knew there were issues there that had to be worked out, but she hopped Max could wait long enough to get this gathering over with.

Isabel came back with two sets of keys. After they settled them selves in Isabel laid down in her and Maria’s room to contact Ava.

Since talking to Michael, Isabel and the others had worked at blocking connections between each other to prolong the inevitable confrontation with Khivar.

She assumed Ava would be doing the same and she was right. It took a few minutes for her to connect to Ava and find out that they were down the hall.

Isabel nodded her head and before leaving Ava’s subconscious stumbled and struggled to catch her breath as the familiar presences so long weakened, washed over her soul.

Isabel sat up with teary eyes. This further worried Maria until Maria saw a light in Isabel’s eyes that she hadn’t realized was missing.

Maria smiled at the taller blonde as she sat up.

“Ava and her friend are down the hall. Room 12. We can go over there now she said and order some pizzas.”

They all nodded and stood up.

Maria noticed the last glance Isabel sent both her and Liz was full of fear. Crediting it to extreme sleep deprivation Maria followed the others down the hall.

It was Max who knocked on the door.

Ava opened it.

She smiled sheepishly at them and hugged Liz.

It was at Isabel’s barely audible “Oh My God, I was right.”

Followed quickly by Liz’s harsh intake of breath that Maria focused on the other occupant of Ava’s room.

Right before Maria hit the floor she heard Max’s questioning voice say, “Alex?”

Then all was dark.

Part 14

It was Ava who was quick enough to actually catch Maria before she hit the floor. The others were all too shocked at the discovery of their supposed to be dead friend.

“A little help here!!”

Alex rushed over and took Maria from Ava’s arms her carried her over to his bed and laid her down.

Then he tuned back to his long last friends, “Hi” it was all he managed and that was only above a whisper before Liz had jumped into his arms.

He hugged his Lizzy for all he was worth.

Slowly Max came fully into the room and shut the door behind him.

Liz stepped out of Alex’s arms, “I missed you so much Alex. I thought… Don’t ever do that to us again okay Alex.”

He smiled at Liz and gave her one last hug before she went to check out Maria.

Max and Alex caught eyes. Max went to shake Alex’s hand, but Alex was not having with the formalities.

He pulled Max into a very manly bear hug.

“I’m sorry Alex, so sorry I didn’t know. So Sorry I couldn’t stop her and so sorry I couldn’t save you.”

Alex released Max and just shook his head at the guilt filled controlling leader before him.

“Max there is nothing to be sorry for. Tess was really good at what she was doing. Nobody knew. I don’t blame you for her actions. It’s all on her okay. It was her decision to have me decode the book and cover up my supposed death.

Besides Max don’t apologize for being unable to save me. I’m right here. That body that you all thought was me was actually Rath. He um… he helped Ava save me and lost his life in the process. I gave him a safe place to rest so the government couldn’t get him.

It was the least I could do after what he did to get me back.”

Max smiled at Alex and went over to help Liz revive Maria.

Max would make sure they got the whole story later

Alex deliberately turned to watch his two girls and Max. He needed the extra moment to gather his wits about him before facing the love of his life.

Turning towards her he found Isabel.

Frozen in place, tears streaming down her face running her mascara.

From all the way across the room Alex could see her hands shaking.

Not hesitating a moment more he rushed to her side and pulled her to him.

As their forms melding together Isabel’s wavering control broke as sobs racked her body and she fell to the floor bringing Alex with her.

“Shh... Izzie It’s okay now love I’m here. It’s going to be okay from now on I promise. Izzie, love, don’t cry please, it breaks my heart to see you this way.”

Hearing his voice mumbling in her ear with so much love and reverence she only cried harder.

Oh how she had missed him.

As the relief at finally being in his harms again showed through her tears; it was the waves of guilt she felt that caused her to tremble.

As the reunited soul mates sat on the floor embraced in each other’s arms. Ava watched as silent tears of happiness dripped from her sparkling blue eyes.

She looked up and caught Max’s eyes as he too turned from the sight of his sister and her true love.

It was probably because emotions were so amiss that both of them flinched as the connection forced itself open and the flashes jumped from one to the other.

Max grabbed his head in pain and the loss of energy he was using to keep himself healthy.

Ava dropped to her knees gripping her own head in an attempt to stop the completion of this connection.

She knew how horrible it would be if the former King and Queen of Antar reconnected. It would be close to signing their death warrants.

As the flashes continued to flood over their minds they both became helpless to its pull.

“Oh Crap” was the only response Alex had as he pulled Isabel up and sat her down with Maria and Liz.

As he was approaching Ava he heard Maria start to wake, “Lizzy, guess what. I had this dream and Alex was there and he looked so happy and alive. That was the best part he was alive and then with Isabel and together they were so happy.”

Liz grabbed Maria’s hand to tell Maria the news and was instantly thrown into a premonition.

~She saw Maria playing with a little girl that mirrored Isabel except for the eyes. The little girls eyes were an exact replica of Alex’s. Liz was thoroughly shocked and then the girl turned to face Maria. A very pregnant Maria. “Auntie Maria, when will Unkie Mike be back with the ice cream?” Maria was laughing as Liz came back to the present. ~

Now Liz had two things she needed to share with everyone once all this chaos settled down. A premonition and that memory dream she had in the car when she and Max where sleeping.

She was beginning to wonder why it was her who had the dream instead of Max. She pushed all these concerns aside for now to deal with the present. The past and future would have to be put on hold.

“Maria honey. It wasn’t a dream. Alex is here. And he’s alive.”

Maria stared in shock and could only nod her head. It was Maria’s silent acceptance of this that startled Isabel back to the current crisis. She felt the pull for her to open the connection to not just her brother but Ava too.

She whispered for Alex.

He turned just before reaching Ava and saw the strain of holding out in Isabel’s eyes.

“Liz, listen to me. You have to get Isabel out of here until this is all over. She can’t be pulled into this connection. It’s bad enough these two are connecting if Vilandra gets tossed in with Ava and Zan. Khivar will start packing for a trip to Earth.”

Liz nodded as she pulled at the taller girl to follow her out the door. Once the door was shut and Alex heard the car start he returned his attention to Ava. He scooped her up into his arms and carried her to her own bed. At this point Max had fallen to a lying down position on Alex’s bed and Maria and scrambled away in fear of the alien connection thing going on around her.

“Alex what’s going on?”

“Hey Ria, I missed you too!”

Maria laughed as she jumped to hug her friend. They separated and Alex tried to explain the best he could.

“Let’s see. Okay back on Antar, The Royals all had a connection to each other. That’s Zan,Vilandra, Rath, Raeanne, and then Ava once she married Zan. It was this connection that allows them to do battle in the Four Square. It intensifies their powers so to speak or at least allows them to use each other’s powers.

Now since they died the connection was sort of broken.

It lies dormant in all of them waiting to be reformed.

The reason why Max and Isabel and Michael could sense each other and then Tess when she came was because of this dormant connection.

However, the connections are trying to reestablish themselves to be full again. Each one of our alien friends has to focus to stop it from happening. Otherwise it sends a big red flag to Khivar and he comes and destroys Earth.

Ava said that there are also newer connections that Christina has sensed. Smaller connections that are forming between Max and Liz, You and Michael, me and Isabel, and then there’s the connection between you and Kyle which we are crediting to the fact that your siblings now.”

Maria was once again left speechless going into shock not only was her best friend alive, but her computer savvy, fellow band geek was explaining the technicalities of an Alien connection to her.

Part 15

It was an hour later that Ava awoke from the connection. She looked around trying to gather thoughts. She felt the renewed connection to Max.

Despite it’s renewal and the fact that it should be strongest Ava felt it dying.

She focused for a second and saw that it was actually Max who was dying.

She gasped as she looked to the still slumbering form of Max.

She heard laughter and went outside to find Maria and Alex leaning against the Jetta catching up.

A few minutes later Isabel and Liz returned.

With a sense of control over their emotions they were able to block the connection process form starting all over again.

Since the current crisis seemed to have passed they all welcomed each other properly and then decided to call for that pizza.

Ava told the others she would meet them in the room she just had to make a quick phone call.

She turned and walked away from the hotel as she dialed,

“Hey Christina, I’m sorry to call so late. Yeah we have a problem. Yeah pretty huge problem, See tonight Max and I connected...”

Ava pulled the phone away from her ear as Christina started yelling up a storm, hearing her pause for more air Ava rushed on,

“Christina I know that’s bad, but actually that’s not the problem. Max is dying.”

As she continued her phone conversation with Christina deciding what they should do she never saw the short brunette standing behind her, nor did she see a broken Liz turn and flee as tears leaked from her chocolate brown eyes as she wondered how she was supposed to do this all on her own.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The next day, all parties where on the road again.

Kyle was sad to leave Serena so soon after meeting the beauty, but her and Spencer where off to Columbus, Ohio to take care of a newly developed skin camp.

Apparently they had every intention of wiping the Earth clean of skins before Khivar arrived with more.

Michael and Kyle were taking Christina’s car to meet the others in Lincoln Nebraska. They wondered what she would do without a car, but Christina just brushed them off telling them they would need it more then she did right now.

Once everyone had left the Chicago land area Christina herself caught a taxi to the airport and boarded her plane that was headed west to L.A.

Visiting Kal was the very last thing Christina wanted to do right now or ever to be truthful, but they needed the other set of healing stones.

Michael had told her how Max destroyed their set trying to heal Liz from her powers; so she had no choice but to face the indifferent protector.

Max’s life depended on her getting these healing stones quickly.

AN: Words taken from “The End of the World.”

Part 16

The two weeks had gone by quickly as Michael and Kyle soon found themselves pulling up to the small townhouse the group had decided to rent for their stay in Nebraska.

Michael knew this gathering would be more emotionally and physically draining then meeting his own sister and two cousins, which he didn’t think, was possible.

He knocked at the door and was shortly greeted by a beaming, beautiful pixie in his arms. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Kyle flinch at the volume of Maria’s screaming, but he was glad for it.

As he hugged her he looked over his shoulder and found a very comfortable looking Alex and Izzie snuggling on the couch in the living room.

Both of them were chatting to Ava while Liz was over in the kitchen baking what smelled suspiciously like the Crashdown burgers.

Max was nowhere to be seen which only slightly worried Michael.

As the others finally noticed who was at the door Isabel jumped up to greet Kyle and then Michael. She hugged them both and then watched as Kyle pulled Alex into a hug and welcomed him back telling him how much he was missed.

She began to frown as Michael just continued to stare Alex down. As if he was trying to reach within the very depths of Alex’s soul.

“Your Alex?”

“Yep the one and only Alex Whitman.”

“In my life, not necessarily.”

“What you think I’m a shape-shifter?”

Michael raised an eye brow begging Alex to prove him wrong. He wanted it to be Alex more than anything this very moment.

Alex saw Isabel about to interrupt their exchange, “No Izzie, he’s right to be cautious. I’m glad he is. Okay Michael, after you broke Maria’s heart with that tramp Courtney, I went to your apartment, said a few things, threw a punch and left. Happy?”

“What did you say exactly?”

Alex smiled,

“I told you I didn’t care that you had 30 pounds on me or that you could kill me with some twisted alien power. I would not let you treat Maria like that. I didn’t care that Isabel treated me like crap, but no one would do that to Maria because she’s not just some girl. Then I was going to leave, but Courtney showed up so I punched you in the face. You said I was a really good friend so I threaten to really kick your ass if you call me that again.”

Michael pulled Alex into a very manly hug.

“It’s good to have you back.”

With the tension now gone Isabel continued where she had left off.

“You both remember Ava...”

Kyle nodded and politely shook her hand before moving off to Liz in the kitchen.

Michael gave her a wary glance before shrugging his shoulders and pulling her into a hug.

“Welcome to the family Ava. Glad to have you.”

A shocked Ava smiled back to the Second and responded,

“It’s a pleasure to finally be home.”

Everyone was busy getting reacquainted when Michael finally asked,

“Where’s Maxwell.” Isabel offered to go get him before Liz stopped her.

“No, Isabel we have to all talk before Max comes back downstairs.”

Everyone looked at Liz a little surprised.

Ava having an idea what this was about didn’t argue but went to get a seat in the living room.

Having known and trusted Liz all their lives both Alex and Maria didn’t hesitate to follow Ava’s lead. Kyle gave Liz a glance, saw the same look in her eyes that night they set up for Max and he too followed the others to the living room.

Liz turned to Michael and Isabel. “Look you guys, I know he’s the King and he’s in charge, but we have to deal with this before it gets any worse.”

She wiped a tear from her face and continued.

“You both know how Max takes responsibility for all of us, but we can’t let him continue to do that it will ki…kill him. I’m not saying we keep this a secret I’m just saying we have the meeting first with all the drama and arguing and before we tell Max and start the planning. Please, trust me. He needs rest now more than anything.”

Isabel moved by the tears moving down Liz’s face turned to take her seat next to Alex.

Michael glanced back at the others who had blindly without too much explanation followed what Liz had asked.

“You know Liz, I think you make a fine Queen for the bunch of us.”

She smiled and hugged Michael as they both went to join the others.

“I’m not sure where to start this part of me thinks Kyle and Michael should go first and we should all get caught up to date, and the other part of me needs to deal with the upcoming crisis, but we won’t be able to work properly as a group if we don’t all know everything so Michael and Kyle why don’t you tell us what you learned from your sister? And then we can go from there.”

Some smiled as they listened to Liz logically plan their meeting out loud.

Michael started, “My sister, Christina, she’s just... She’s great. And powerful, so much stronger then any of us.”

Michael continued to share with the others everything he had learned about their time on Antar, meeting Serena and Spencer, where they were currently, and how they had practiced their powers.

He stressed how important it would be for them to start practicing in different pairs to find their strengths as a group and eliminate all possible weaknesses.

Ava and Isabel smiled as they saw the familiar war general take control.

He finished up by saying that now Ava and Max were connected it would be harder for Isabel and him not to be pulled into it, but they had to try and be as far away from each other as possible. Ava and Max should also work on blocking others and not building up the strength of their now awakened connection.

Liz nodded her head in thanks, “Okay now that we’re all more or less caught up I have to share with you a couple of things and then Ava has something to tell us all.”

Those that looked to Ava saw the resigned nod of her head.

“Okay, I’m not sure why or how this happened but on the way to the hotel in Laramie to meet with Ava and Alex I intercepted a memory from Max.”

As she told them the details she once again got pulled into the memory.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Zan burst through the doors to the War room and started to destroy all the plans and papers in it. He erased all important locations of other leaders and diplomats.

It may be too late for his kingdom, but he was not going to allow others to fall into harm if he could help it.

He fell to the ground as he felt his wife and the unborn child he wasn’t suppose to know about ripped form his soul.

If any one was around to hear his scream they would have been forever haunted by the sound their king made as his mate died.

He gathered his wits about him and informed his mother through their connection to go through with the plan because in this lifetime they were not ready, but maybe in the next they would be.

As he said his final goodbye to his mother he felt his best friend, Rath also torn from this world.

Zan destroyed all known knowledge about the Granolith that was held within the Palace. He felt the connection to Raeanne now opened and used her to connect with the Granolith.

He asked it to wipe all memories and knowledge about itself people had on the planet in order to protect itself from Khivar. His last actions of King complete he broke his focus as he heard the door slam open.

He felt Rae racing closer to him to help, but it was no use. Even if she were to get here in time the two of them would be unable to defeat all the men Khivar had brought with them.

Both of them were to devastated and too unfocused to do anything other then blow the whole Palace up with the energy they would be able to call forth. He sent waves of love and remorse to Rae hopping she would be able to sense it through all the other thoughts.

He pulled up a shield as Khivar entered the room, “Why if it isn’t his Royal Majesty. Hiding behind his shield alone at last with no one to defend the King. You know Zan, had you just given me Vilandra’s hand in marriage all of this could have ended much more pleasant for all parties involved. Or had you bothered to stop those annoying siblings of Lord Rohan from playing pranks on me as youngsters I wouldn’t have had to kill them so ruthlessly.”

A small glimmer of hope entered Zan’s eyes as he realized Khivar didn’t’ know that Raeanne lived.

It went unnoticed by Khivar as he continued pacing back and forth in front of the shield gloating.

“Zan, that shield won’t last forever you know that and don’t you want to die fighting? Oh that’s right Antar’s own King doesn’t have much in the way of offensive powers now does he?”

Zan knew he could tap into the others energy even with them gone, but he saved them for Rae he knew she would need them if this was going to play out like he feared.

Niko stepped around the doorway and began to assault the kings mind even through the shield, knowing it was the only the princess who was capable to block this with her shield and she was no longer a problem.

Zan winced as he felt his mind torn apart.

Niko wasn’t looking for memories of information he was just zapping up Zan’s energy as quickly as he could. After only a few minutes Zan’s shield flickered and went out.

He refused to fall to his knees before Khivar even though he could barely hold himself up.

He felt the blows even if he couldn’t see properly form the pain of Niko’s attack.

At last he had no choice but to fall, he landed slumped over the table panting for breath.

He could feel his insides bleeding, but he couldn’t find reason to even attempt to heal himself now. With a final blow to the head with a small powered energy blast Khivar left.

Zan wanted to die, the pain was so horrible, but he felt Rae getting closer and he held out till she arrived.

She quietly slipped through the doors and Zan’s mind eased as she worked to clear his thoughts of all but the love and respect his family had for him. Thoughts of how he would soon be joining his wife and sister and suedo-brother.

“Rae, I’m sorry I couldn’t stop your nightmares from coming true.”

Rae grasped at the fact the king knew she was aware of what would happen all along.

Zan smiled at her, “I know we can make it better, that we will make it better with our second chance. Our love for each other and this planet will allow us to win next time, but right now I need you to make that happen. You know the plan, even though you shouldn’t. You’ve always known more then you were ready to bear.”

He watched as tears slid down Rae’s face but forced himself to continue, “Go now Rae. I’ll tell your brother of the love you send him, but try not to join us too soon ok lil Rae?”

She nodded. Zan felt the tears land on his forehead as she bent to kiss his head.

He heard her whisper, “For the future.”

Before the door shut just as quietly as she entered and all went dark for the last Royal King of Antar

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz paused to get her emotions back under control. She wasn’t surprised when she didn’t see a single dry eye in the living room.

Even Stonewall Guerin had a few tears rolling down his cheek.

“Like I said I don’t know why I had that, but I did and I figured I’d share it all with you now. Also there was a premonition I had went Ava and Max where connecting.”

She waited for everyone to join her back at the present conversation and away from the memory.

She decided not to tell them exactly what she saw because the future sometimes did change as she was more than aware of.

“It was the future, obviously, but it was after the war and we were happy. Alive and genuinely, truly happy.

More importantly at peace, and let’s just say our family was a little bit bigger than it is now.”

Before they could start in on the questions she turned to Ava,

“I’m sorry Ava, but you have to tell the rest of them. We all have a right to know and Max won’t tell us until its too late. So your turn.”

AN: Sorry for the short post; I'd put up the next chapter, but I have to study for an exam. Hopefully I can post more tomorrow! Thanks for all the responses; I'm glad you guys are enjoying it!!

Natalie36: Max doesn't have to die and it's not that he thinks he has too. He's just doesn't want to worry everyone else. The whole character trait of taken on all the problems for the group is in play here.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Part 17

Never in her life had Ava had so many eyes focused on her at one point. She reached to the small connection she had started with Spencer for strength and took a deep breath before diving in.

“I think you got the memory Liz, because Max couldn’t handle it. It was too involved and close to his death on Antar that it would have completely drained him. This is going to be hard to explain and hear, but first know that Christina is working on the solution.

When I connected to Max, afterwards the connection wasn’t as strong as it should have been. Which is a good thing for us because of Khivar, but I looked closer and saw it was so weak because Max is so weak.

His body, the body of Clayton Wheeler is dying.

Everyday Max has been using the majority of his energy to heal himself so everyone doesn’t notice. It’s too much for him and soon he’ll start drawing from our powers. Either that or he’ll allow himself to die. Neither are options.”

Isabel was horrified, “We can’t just let Max die!”

Maria and Kyle nodded their heads in agreement as Alex tried to sooth Isabel.

Michael had gotten up and was at the window starring at the stars as they rose.

Through it all Liz remained quiet, focusing on the connection she had with her soul mate.

She became aware of how close to the end he really was, how tiring it was everyday just to wake up; not to mention driving or leading them to fight an army. His body was decaying it was all out of whack and unbalanced.

UNBALANCED?

Liz gave a yelp as everyone turned to her, “He’s... Max’s insides are unbalanced we just need to…”

She trailed off as she realized that the healing stones were gone.

“To get the healing stones.” Michael finished for her.

She meekly nodded as Kyle continued, “Sure no problem, oh wait Max blew them up two years ago!”

He looked at some of the startled faces, “Sorry. It just sucks not being able to get ahead it seems, ever.” Maria smiled at him in sympathy and understanding as others agreed.

Ava laughed at this point and the others looked at her alarmed at her timing.

“Liz I think you’ll really get along great with Christina, both of your minds just work so quickly and similarly.”

At this point everyone was looking at Ava more than confused.

“Christina gave you guys the car because she was going to L.A. She went to see Kal and get the other set of healing stones.

They were barely able to sigh in relief or celebrate as Max asked from the top of the stairs,

“Why do we need the healing stones?”

Part 18

Christina sighed as the taxi dropped her off at the front doors of Kal’s L.A. mansion. She rang the doorbell and waited for the butler to get the door for her.

Needless to say she was surprised when it was Kal himself who opened the door.

“Please tell me the King did not send you to ruin my life again?”

Christina rolled her eyes, “Don’t be so over dramatic Kal your worse then a teenage girl.”

Kal chuckled as he opened the door wider for his least hated alien hybrid.

“And may I ask what brings you all the was to my city?”

Christina laughed as the shape-shifters sense of ownership.

“I need the stones, Kal… Max is dying. I don’t have time to convince you to give them to me to spare this planet the same fate as Antars, nor will I allow you to force me to do you any favors, just give me the damn stones so I can get out of your hair and we can get back to both of our lives.”

“I don’t take orders from the little royal, only the King.”

Christina had to control her laughter,

“Please Kal, we both now that THAT was not an order, and you really don’t want me to have to order you to give me the stones that you have no use for.

Because you may not take orders from anyone but the King, but the King’s authority comes form the Granolith. I know you don’t want me to invoke the Granolith to get you to corporate.”

As Christina said all this her voice lowered until it was barely above a whisper, yet Kal caught every word.

“You wouldn’t dare. Last I check you haven’t even connected to it.”

She glared at him as she answer,

“There’s no way in hell that I wouldn’t not call upon the Granolith. IF the king dies, all hope is lost. I WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN. And I may not have connected to the Granolith in this life, but I’m sure a connection from another lifetime is more than enough for the Granolith to see how desperate this situation is.”

Kal groaned realizing his plan had backfired, "Fine they're upstairs in the safe. Let’s go get them shall we?”

It didn't really matter because like she said he had no use for the stones. They were no good to him by himself, his only wish was to cause Max pain in return for ruining his life.

“Let’s! Oh, I’ll also be needing your private jet to get a ride back to Chicago and then borrow it for a short trip to Nebraska. That’s alright with you as swore protector to the Royal Four right?”

She smiled as she heard Kal groaning again as they climbed the stairs.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz’s well intention for saving Max’s strength were all for nothing because it was now well after midnight and the yelling was stilling going on.

Isabel and Michael were doing most of the yelling. Maria and Ava would throw in their thoughts every now and then.

Kyle was more focused on the muted TV infomercial as far as he concerned the healing stones would get here problem solved. He was more worried about asking out Serena the next time he saw her or how the hell they were all going to sleep in comfy beds tonight when there were only three bedrooms as far as he knew.

It was the ringing of the telephone that finally silenced them all.

They all looked at each other wondering who would be calling because first off it was the middle of the night, and more importantly no one had this phone number.

Kyle noticing the concerned looks of the others picked up the phone,

“Nut house, Buddhist speaking, how may I help you?”

He heard a few giggles and even saw Michael smirk at that.

“Sure. Oh I’m just fine how are you? Did you have a good trip, manage what you set out for? That’s good. Oh their horrible yelling about everything. Max is dying, Ava’s trustworthiness, Khivar’s upcoming arrival, Sox vs. Cubs anything.

Yeah. Max thinks its better to let him die for some reason. Okay yeah. And I mean just because she looks like that murderous bitch you can tell just by looking at Ava that she is as close to Tess as Liz Parker was when she first came to town. Ha ha yeah I know. Sure we can do that we have a nice big backyard here. Okay tell them I said be safe. Later.”

Kyle hung the phone back up and continued watching his show.

Everyone stared for a good minute before the talking started again this time all directed towards him.

He felt a slap to the back of his head from Maria as Isabel yelled,

“Who the hell was that.”

Michael questioned, “What she say Valenti?”

While Ava said thanks to Kyle for his nice words.

Liz tried to defend her attitude towards Tess in the beginning but then thought better of it and joined the others in question Kyle who the mysterious caller was.

“SILENCE!”

Max’s yell finally settled them all, “Kyle, who was on the damn phone?”

Kyle looked up finally to the eyes of the leader and smiled.

Looking around the others he answered, “Christina says hi to everyone. Max you can’t die without you this whole training, defending Earth things is useless. Can’t win without the king. Ah... Lets see. Oh first thing tomorrow morning we are to start training like Michael said earlier. You two really think alike. Creepy. Oh and she got the stones form Kal, but she can’t bring them her herself because of the connection thingy you all have going on. She said as soon as Serena and Spencer got back she would send them here with the stones. I’m really tired I think I’ll hit the hay. See everyone tomorrow morning.”

Everyone else just gawked as Kyle climbed the stairs. The house remained silent as the door to the first bedroom was opened and shut with a solid deafening click.

Part 19

Over the next couple of days the group settle into a routine. They woke up early and had breakfast as a group.

Then they trained breaking up into different pairs. The only catch was Michael, Isabel, and Ava could not connect with each other to practice at all. So it was the aliens and humans that were paired to see what they could do together or humans together.

Each day they switched so everyone got to practice with each other.

Max was not allowed to practice at all. Maria for the most part would hang out with Max or when Max was resting she would watch the practices and help where she could.

At night a few of the group would look for jobs and the others would relax around the house and prepare dinner.

As far as training sessions went they had discovered they could do some pretty amazing things.

When Liz and Kyle connected they found that their mini blasts seemed to multiply and they could throw off at least ten in a row without gathering energy or tiring. They also found that Liz could selectively allow only certain people to see her astral projection when she was receiving more energy. Kyle’s shimmering distance could increase if he first gathered energy from Liz. And he was able to transport himself and two others at this point but only as far as two miles.

When Michael connected to Liz or Kyle his blasts became smaller in appearance but actually gained in strength, which would startle the enemy.

When Liz and Isabel joined, Liz was able to project herself into a person‘s mind while Isabel could bring both her and Liz into a person‘s subconscious. Together they found they could also skim the surface of people's thoughts.

Michael and Alex worked together and found they could move Alex’s deflective shield to protect somebody else. Currently they were perfecting the method.

Kyle, Liz or Ava would aim one of their blasts at Isabel, Maria, or one of the others and then Alex would send up his shield and Michael would move it to protect the victim.

When Isabel and Alex joined their shields each took on the other’s quality. The shield increased in size to match Isabel’s but the quality deflected incoming blasts. The also discovered that Isabel's shield blocked physical and mental attacks.

During all this Liz was coming up with theories of what Michael, Isabel, and Ava would be able to do if they were to connect.

She had an idea that Michael would be able to move Isabel’s shield too, and possible even blast through it when they were connected.

For Ava and Isabel she imagined that Isabel would be able to get inside a person head when they were conscious and see those thoughts more easily than that time she tried with Pierce. Ava would be able to play on a person’s thoughts and dreams that she got from Isabel.

Liz was also a little concerned for the combination of Ava’s fire blast with Michael’s energy blast.

At the end of each day Liz, Kyle, Alex, or Ava would give Max extra energy to last him through the night so he was able to rest instead of struggling to stay alive as he slept.

It was a week before their nice routine was interrupted by a scream one early morning before the sun was even fully risen.

Part 20

Michael was the first one through the door followed closely by Isabel and Kyle.

Isabel covered her mouth with her hand and ran for a bathroom as she laid eyes on her brother.

Michael pulled Liz from the bed and Kyle went to check on Isabel.

“That’s not Max!”

Kyle nodded his head in agreement as he handed Isabel a washcloth.

“That’s what Calyton Wheeler looked like. He’s transforming back into that monster.”

“What monster.”

Isabel threw herself into Alex’s arms as he stumbled up the stairs towards them. Kyle explained how Max was getting worse.

They all headed back to Max and Liz’s room to find Maria and Ava gathered there as well. Liz was in a ball on the floor wrapped in Michael’s arms as she cried silently.

Isabel watched as Ava raised a hand over Max and scanned him.

She wasn’t reassured, as Ava turned a shade whiter.

“What is it Ava.”

“Max...ah this body doesn’t have long, by tonight it will be worn out.”

“Max is still in there though right?”

Everyone looked to Alex in question,

“I’m just saying we should check that’s all.”

After a few nods everyone turned to Liz, but Isabel decided Liz was in no state to make a connection to her brother so she would try and dream-walk him. She went to grab his hand but Ava pulled her back,

“You have to use a picture Isabel.”

Isabel nodded and went to retrieve one from her room. She lay down on her bed and place a finger over Max’s smiling face from when they were younger.

Before the alien abyss opened up to swallow them whole.

It was easy to get in and a horrifying experience to witness.

Max was clutching as Liz’s feet as some dark cloud pulled at him trying to take him away. Behind Liz, Isabel could see images flashed of their entire lives. From their adoption until now. Different moments in their lives that had changed them and effected who they are now.

Isabel broke out of the dream-walk and cried into Alex’s shoulder as he held her.

After a few minutes they rejoined the others. Liz had recollected herself and was holding onto Max’s hand in Clayton Wheeler’s form.

Maria was stroking her hair as Michael paced the length of the room. Ava and Kyle were off to the side both whispering into the phone. Isabel informed them, “It’s Max still, but he’s holding on for dear life and he won't be able to hold on for too much longer.”

“Serena and Spencer are on their way to the jet they should be here in a few hours.” Ava informed them as she hung up the phone.

Minutes passed before they decided to move Max downstairs to the couch and eat some breakfast. Once he was settled, Michael began to make eggs for everyone.

Everyone ate silently as they watched the unmoving form in the living room.

Isabel saw Liz flinch and grip the table a moment before she too felt it.

Michael winced a moment later as he felt it too.

Ava shot out of her chair and raced to the couch. She put her hand over his head and it glowed.

Michael relaxed as the feeling went away. Isabel swayed in her chair remembering Michael’s words of how it felt as Maria was being ripped from his very soul. She now knew what it felt like.

She looked up and saw that Liz was still shaking.

“Can you still feel it Liz?”

Liz didn’t even open her eyes as she slowly nodded her head.

Poor Liz, was all Isabel could think, not only did she get Max ripped from her when he died before but now she was forced to experience it again in slow motion.

Isabel continued to watch Liz and was shocked when Liz unconsciously rubbed her stomach and whispered, “It’s okay baby, momma’s here. Don’t worry daddy’s going to be fine.”

Not only did Liz’s stomach send off a soft glow but it allowed Liz to stop trembling and then she opened her eyes to find five jaws hanging open in shock. “Oopps, that was a surprise.”

Part 21

A rented car pulled up half hazardly to the address Christina had given them.

Serena and Spencer rushed into the rented house to find a defeated Antarian court. It had been five hours since the house was awoken by Liz’s scream.

Michael was pacing around the room like a caged animal.

Silent tears fell from Isabel’s lack luster eyes as Alex rubbed small circles on her back and held her hand.

Ava had not removed her hands from over the prone figure that was their king. A soft glow emanating from her hands, sweat dripped down her hairline, and occasionally her body would tremble as she tried her hardest to keep the king alive.

For once Maria was quiet as she sat in the corner with Kyle. Kyle too for once was solemn as his gaze went back and forth between Maria and Liz.

Upon their entrance, Kyle’s head shot up and Serena watched as hope filled his eyes. He walked over to Liz.

Liz, who looked the most collected.

However, as she turned away from Max to look at Serena and Spencer, Serena saw the dead, empty look in her eyes an instant before Liz’s eyes too, glimmered with a renewed sense of hope. Not only that but she felt the wave of darkness from the small girl.

Serena spoke out breaking everyone from their isolated retreat from reality.

“Christina sent us with the other set of healing stones. Maria, get us a bowl of water. Kyle, Michael, move Max to the floor. Isabel I need you to draw the circle around Max with five lines leading to him. We need four groups of two, alien and humans. Humans hold the stones with both hands from the bottom, aliens place one hand on top and the other hand on the shoulder of your human partner for the ritual.”

Maria, Alex, Kyle, and Liz each took a stone and found a place at the outer edges of the circle.

Isabel surprised everyone as she joined Liz. Following her lead Serena went to Maria’s side. Spencer was already behind Kyle as Michael walked over to Alex. When they were all in place Serena bent down to whisper in Ava’s ear who hadn’t moved from Max’s head,

“Ava, I know your tired, when I say, you can drop your hands. I’m going to give you a stone. You remember the ritual?”

Pausing for an answer she continued when she got a slight nod,

“Okay good, I know you’re already exhausted, but we need you for this and I know you’re strong enough. Are you with us?”

After another nod Serena turned to the others and nodded. They took their positions. Serena grabbed Ava’s shoulder and gave her a slight shake.

Instantly Serena’s energy was pulled from her before Ava broke the connection to Max.

Taking her stone she slowly backed away form Max.

Spencer took the first sip of water and began to pass the bowl. One after another they drank from the same bowl. Joining together once again to fight for the life of their king so they would be able to win in the final battle for their lives and the lives of all those who lived on Earth.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Christina swore as she felt them began the ritual. She was afraid this would happen, but she hoped it wasn’t enough to reach Khivar, that it would be over before he even noticed it.

She hoped that saving Max’s life didn’t mean they were forfeiting everyone else’s.

She concentrated on blocking them from herself and from each other. Her entire block could have exploded and she would not have noticed she was so focused and although her body was just outside Chicago her mind was somewhere in Lincoln Nebraska, with her family.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It seemed like they sat with their eyes closed for hours willing the stones to work, but in reality it was only a few minutes before Liz and Isabel’s stone lit up followed by Ava’s.

The others followed and soon the amber glow from the stones lit up the whole living room.

Inside Max’s mind hummed with energy as one after another his family members flickered in. It was a lot different from when they found Michael so they weren’t sure what to do.

Liz started by throwing her love, wave after wave of the most pure love any of them had felt into the mind of Max. In enveloped him and wrapped up around everyone keeping them safe.

Maria followed her friend's example and sent out a picture of her kicking Max’s butt if he ditched them now.

Kyle sent out waves of respect followed by an image of Max sitting on a throne with a crown that said El Presidente.

Alex sent Max laughter: them all laughing together happy, the sound of each individual person’s laughter, humor, joy, happiness followed by peace. A peace sign with a smashed green alien that had a big K on it for Khivar.

Serena and Spencer not really knowing Max well enough yet sent him energy. Energy it would take to heal his body permanently with the help of the stones. Then they tried to express how grateful they were to be fighting under him again for a cause they believed in.

Michael sent images to Max, the good and the bad. Every moment they had endured together and every moment Michael still wanted to go through with his king, his friend, his brother.

Isabel followed Liz’s lead and sent love. Love from their parents, love from his friends, and love from all his people on both planets. She ended by sending a picture of home.

All of them together it didn't matter where they were just as long as they were together.

Suddenly, Liz was glowing, radiating a golden hue that pulsed in time with their collective heartbeat.

It was this force, this small little life force that started the changed. Soon everyone had begun to glow and then just as quickly they could feel the changes in Max, as he grew stronger. Before he reached consciousness and they were too late Serena tried to warn them not to connect to bury the dormant connection deeper.

However, none of that was necessary because a second later they all found themselves sprawled around the living room of the rented house with Max sitting up from the floor.

Looking like himself once again he smiled at all his friends, at his family. Finally his eyes found Liz’s.

Tears fell from her eyes as he gathered her in his arms muttering into her hair, “I’m okay now Liz. I promise. I’m here now and I’m fine. I love you so much you have no idea. I love the both of you so much.”

Part 22

“Did you feel that?”

“Feel what?”

“I’m not exactly sure. It was a glimmer of power, energy shaking the atmosphere. It was strong, but also fleeting. I barely recognized it.”

“Could it be the Royal Four reunited?”

“Nonsense. Those brats don’t even know that Ava isn’t actually the fourth. They have no idea about Raeanne. Secondly it’s gone now. Even the powerful Raeanne wouldn’t have been able to stop the connections from forcing themselves open if all four of them were together.”

“Well what should we do?”

Nicholas scratched at the back of his neck as he thought it over, then he told the other skin,

“Open up a communication link to Khivar. He has to know about this as soon a possible.”

The other skin ran off to follow his orders. Nicholas called another trusted skin and gave him the task of locating the source of the energy wave he felt.

It would have left a disturbance. Shortly the first skin, Jared returned handing Nicholas a small disk.

A holographic image of Khivar appeared, towering over the both of them.

“Why are you disturbing me Niko? You know I am preparing to leave here shortly. What plans of mine have you ruined this time.”

Nicholas bowed, “Your majesty, we are not sure what it is yet, but I felt a wave of the build up of energy. It didn’t last more then a second, and it’s gone now, but I thought you should be made aware of it. It is my belief that the Royals are not even aware that they have caused such a disturbance, but I thought you should be made aware of the fact that they may be accidentally getting stronger and closer to realizing their potential.”

Nicholas tried not to flinch as Khivar let out a long frustrated sigh.

“Niko, those brats are still the idiots they were back on Antar. We shall not fear such arrogant, mindless fools. Nevertheless, I suppose I can arrange to move my timetable forward to eliminate any chance of their awakenings. Prepare for my arrival in one month.”

As the image of Khivar dissolved Nicholas bowed to his king. He turned to Jared telling him to inform the camps that Khivar will be here in a month and they are to start gathering at Headquarters in Klamath.

Let Shilo know about the change in plans so he can get supplies to Klamath Falls.”

Jared glanced at Nicholas with a worried glance, “Ah sir, has no one informed you yet?”

Nicholas gave him a look to continue, “Well, it seems sir that Saeran and Sarafina have done more damage not only have they taken out the two camps Denison, Texas, but they have also just destroyed the camp in Columbus, sir, Shilo and everyone else was lost.”

Nicholas gritted his teeth as he dismissed Jared with a wave of his hand.

Those two were more trouble then they were worth.

He couldn’t wait to get rid of the two of them once and for all.

Better yet maybe mommy dearest would take care of her children for the last time.
