Fantasies in the Flesh

Prologue

Max sat up in bed gasping for air as he desperately clutched the drenched sheets in his hands.

Every night was always the same damn thing. He would always have the same repetitive dreams, more like repetitive nightmares. They plagued him every single night, ever since Tess had left Earth to return to their home planet along with his unborn child.

Every night he was plagued by the memory of himself making love to Tess that night at the observatory.

Making love to Tess was something that he was desperately trying to forget about. But it was pretty hard to try to forget about them considering those damn recurring nightmares that he’d been having lately.

Max glanced at the alarm clock by his bedside table which read 6:18 a.m. Lucky for him today was Saturday, which meant no school. It also meant that Liz was working at the Crashdown this morning. She was due to start her shift any minute now if he remembered correctly.

He had to see her. Even if she didn’t want to see him.

He quickly pushed the damp covers off of himself and sat up. There was no way in hell that he would manage to fall back asleep no matter what he tried.

He got up from the bed and grabbed a pair of Jeans that was lying on his chair by his computer. He grabbed a simple red sweater and casually threw it over himself.

He knew that Maria would most probably throw a fit when if she saw him enter the Crashdown. She would jump on him and tell him to leave the place, telling him that Liz didn’t want to see him.

Not that he blamed her; he had slept with Tess and gotten her pregnant. They had every right in the world to be pissed with him. But it was killing him inside that she had barely said a word to him ever since Tess had left the planet. He had tried to talk to her several times but she had politely told him that she just needed some time to think things over.

Max sighed and opened the window. If Liz needed sometime to think things over, that was perfectly fine with him.

But he wouldn’t let her let her walk away from all of this. He needed her now more than ever. It didn’t matter how long he’d have to wait for her, but he was determined to get he back.

*************************************************************

Liz took a deep breath as she looked at herself in the mirror of her bathroom. She was supposed to be starting her shift in about 4 minutes, but she had been thinking a lot lately and she had made a decision.

She would be taking a break from working at the Crashdown Café. Just for a little while anyways until she got her life back under control.

She took another deep breath and headed downstairs where her father was sure to be found. Sure enough he was there when she got downstairs in the restaurant, sipping coffee at one of the booths of the Café. The restaurant was quiet with only a few early customers. Liz spotted Maria taking a middle-aged man’s order at the far front of the restaurant.

She spotted her father and headed towards him. He looked up when he saw that she wasn’t in her usual Crashdown waitress uniform.

“Liz, your shift’s about to start.” Jeff said, frowning as he looked at her. “What are you doing? Go get in uniform.”

“Dad, there’s something I need to talk to you about.” Liz said as she slid in the booth in front of her dad.

“What is it?” Her father asked, worriedly. “It’s nothing bad is it?”

Liz smiled and shook her head in reassurance. “No, I don’t think so anyways. It’s nothing to be worried about.”

“Good,” Jeff said, breathing out a sighed of relief. “Then what is it?”

“I need...some time to think about thing’s.” Liz said slowly. “I want to take a small break from working here. For a little while.”

“You what?” Jeff asked, his eye’s widening in surprised. “Honey, but why? You’ve been working here since you were fourteen, why would you want to stop working all of a sudden?”

Liz sighed and fiddled with the hem of her shirt absent-mindedly. “I told you I just need some time to think about things.”

“Thing’s like Max Evans?” Jeff asked, knowing the answer even before his daughter spoke.

“No,” Liz said making a face. “Of course not. I just need some time away from this place.”

“Okay then,” Jeff said with a small sigh. “You can take a break if you feel like you need it. And you know that you could always head over to your aunt’s house in Florida if you want. You know your Aunt Sylvia would be more than happy to have you over there again this summer. She’s been asking about you a lot lately.”

Liz nodded. “I don’t think so but it’s nice that she offered I think I’d like to actually stay here this summer.

“ Alright, then.” Jeff said as Liz slid out of the booth and stood up. “But, Liz. I know I don’t need to remind you because I tell you all the time but, if you ever need to talk, you know I’m here for you right? And so is your mother.”

Liz smiled. “Yeah, I know dad.” She paused before turning around. “Thank you."

Jeff nodded and went back to reading his newspaper as Liz turned and headed towards Maria who was busy making a smoothie behind the counter. She immediately looked up when Liz approached her.

“Hey, girlfriend” Maria said, grabbing her order pad from the counter and slipping it inside her apron. “What’s up and why aren’t you in uniform?”

“Oh, um, Maria, about that,” Liz said as the bell rang, signalling that someone had just entered the Crashdown. Maria shot a glance towards the door and her eye’s immediately widened.

Judging by the look etched on her Maria’s face, it could only be one person that was standing at the door this very instant.

“Honey, don’t panic, I’ll get rid of him, okay?” Maria blurted out as she stepped away from the counter.

Max, Liz thought as she felt her heart constrict at the mere sight of him.

She quickly grabbed Maria lightly by the arm to stop her from charging at Max.

Maria,” Liz whispered harshly. “Please don’t do this, he hasn’t done anything wrong, okay? He’s probably just here to grab something to eat.”

“Yeah, right.” Maria sneered back. “Listen, he slept with a whore who killed my best friend and he got her pregnant with a child who’s probably going to turn out to be exactly like his Best-friend-killing, whoreish, sleazy mother or something.”

“Maria,” Liz said, rolling her eye’s. “Is whore-ish even a word?”

“I don’t want him here, Liz,” Maria said, ignoring Liz’s question. “I’m going to stop him from hurting you again.”

“Maria, I’m not working here anymore.” Liz said, “I decided to take some time off.”

“Wha-?” Maria said, her eye’s widening some more. “You’re ditching me here to work on my own?” She waved a hand around the restaurant. “This is a fierce world, Liz. You simply cannot leave me here to work on my own. You just can’t do this to me right now.”

“Yeah,” Liz said, “Maria, I need this. I just do. I need a break.”

“I understand,” Maria said with a small sigh as she brushed a strand of blond hair out of her face. “I actually do understand this need to get away from the alien-abyss. But please don’t run away like you did last summer? With Alex gone…I need you. I need my best friend with me this summer.”

Maria, I need some more coffee!”Jeff Parker called out from the booth at the far back of the restaurant. “And customers are waiting to get they’re orders taken.”

“Coming,” Maria called out loudly. She turned back to Liz. “You promise you’re not going to leave Roswell so you can head over to your Aunt Gale’s or something?”

“My aunt Silvia,” Liz corrected her as she made a face. “And, no, I’m not going anywhere this summer. Your stuck here with me, I promise.”

“I’ll be counting on it.” Maria said.

“Oh, and, Maria?” Liz said, grabbing Maria’s arm lightly before Maria had the chance to hurry off. Maria turned and looked at her.

“Don’t be mean to him, okay?” Liz said lightly with a small smile. “I know what he did was wrong. And I’m not ready to forgive him any time soon. But remember that I also pretended to sleep with Kyle. Even though it wasn’t real, he still thought it was and it broke his heart too.”

“Fine,” Maria huffed, shooting a look towards the front door where Max was still standing.

Liz smiled and watched as Maria turned on her heels and headed towards her father’s booth. Liz then turned and headed towards the front of the restaurant where the entrance was. She knew that if she wanted to get out of here she’d have to pass by Max who was standing by the entrance door.

Not something she was looking forward to doing right now.

“Hi, Liz.” Max said as Liz crossed the restaurant, heading towards the entrance door that would lead her to freedom.

“Oh, hi, Max.” Liz said, forcing a small smile on her face. “It’s kind of early; shouldn’t you be like sleeping at this hour or something?”

“Couldn’t sleep.” Max answered with a small shrug, his eyes never leaving hers. “So I decided to get something to eat”

“Oh, okay,” Liz said, visibly uncomfortable. “Well, sit anywhere you want and Maria will take your order.” Liz said, brushing her long brown hair out of her face.

“Oh, aren’t you supposed to be working this morning?” Max asked, looking down curiously at her black tank top and pair of low rise jeans.

Liz shook her head in response. “Actually I am but I’ve decided to stop working here for a little while,” Liz explained. “It’s nothing permanent but I just decided to take a break this summer. I might start again when school starts, I just don’t know yet.”

Max nodded, his face falling slightly. “Oh,”

“Anyways, I better get going.” Liz said. “I’ll see you around, okay?”

“That sounds great.” Max said, forcing a smile on his face but failing miserably. She hated him. It was obvious.

“Bye.” Liz said, still not looking up at him. She hurried past him and pushed the doors open to the restaurant. She stepped outside into the early morning sunshine and took a deep breath, breathing in the cool fresh air.

Damn it, she couldn’t even be around him anymore. It was killing her every time she even got near him. She couldn’t help it though. How was she supposed to get over the fact that he had slept with Tess and gotten her pregnant?? That was something that she simply couldn’t forgive him for right now. It would take some time. Lots of it. Even if a little voice in the back of her head blamed her for everything that had happened. She had been the one who had pushed Max towards Tess. She was the one who had screwed everything up by pretending to have slept with Kyle back in October. God, what had she done? This was all her fault. Or part of it was it was anyways.

She remembered what he had told her a couple of nights ago when they had returned from Las Cruces, the night he had been planning to leave earth to return to his home planet with his ex-wife and his unborn child. What was that thing he had answered her when she had asked him if he loved Tess?

Ahh, yes,

Not like I love you.

That's exactly how he had answered her.

What a joke. What had it meant anyway's?? Not like I love you. It had to mean that he actually did have feelings for her. Or had anyways.

There was no way she was going to be forgiving him anytime soon.

There was just no way.

Fantasies in the Flesh

Chapter One

“Parker, we are renting movie tonight,”

Maria stuffed her apron and order pad in her locker as she spoke to Liz, who was sitting on the couch by the stairs, the small tv was opened as Liz flipped the channels.

“Maria, I’m way too tired,” Liz responded, “And I need to finish that English Essay by tomorrow morning. I really don’t have time to watch a movie, or do anything else for the matter of face.”

“For God’s sake, Liz,” Maria said, turning her head so that she was facing her best friend. “School’s out for the summer in less than a week. I’m sure the teacher won’t mind if you skip handing in one lame Essay.”

Liz shook her head in response. “No, I really need to hand that one in. I haven’t handed two of my English Essay’s in the past month.” She paused, her eye’s shifting to the floor. “What with everything’s that’s been happening around here.”

“I know,” Maria said with a sighed, “It’s been a real nightmare. But I already called Kyle and he’s coming by with two movies that I asked him to pick out from the video store. You don’t have a choice. Your stuck with me and Kyle tonight.”

“Maria,” Liz started but Maria stopping her.

“No,” Maria said, holding up her hand. “Liz, you already quit your job at the Crashdown. Don’t let me down on this one.”

“Fine,” Liz said, letting out a small sighed. “When’s Kyle getting here?”

“Right about now,” Maria answered as the swinging doors that led to the small backroom swung open, revealing Kyle.

“I’m here,” He said, holding up two DVD’s.

Horror movies!?” Maria let out a small shriek when she saw the titles. “Your kidding me right??”

“No.” Kyle answered. “There was nothing else. Does two movies were the only one’s who looked semi-decent.”

“Kyle!” Maria said, “I’ve had enough horror to last me a lifetime. I don’t need to see another horror movie and neither does Liz!”

“Maria it’s fine,” Liz said, shrugging. “I really need to get working on that Essay anyway’s.”

Maria sighed and threw Kyle an evil look, who simply shrugged.

“Okay,” She answered defeated. “Go work on that Essay. But I swear, Liz, I’m going to go rent us a movie for tommorow so don’t you dare make any plans alright?”

Liz nodded and managed a small smile before heading upstairs to her bedroom. “I’ll see you guy’s tommorow at school okay?”

“Guess we’ll see you then,” Kyle said, “I’m going to bring these back then. Maybe I’ll bump into a nice chick who’s not afraid to watch a horror movie.”

Maria rolled her eye’s and slapped Kyle on the back as Liz headed upstairs.

Once she was finally alone in her bedroom with her door closed shut, she collapsed on her bed. Tommorow was Monday which meant that she’s definitely be seeing Max. There was no way she’d be able to avoid him considering she had him in four of her classes.

She was so tired, tired of feeling this way, tired of not being able to be around Max anymore. What if she could never forgive him for what he had done? What if she could never be around him anymore?

Liz tried to push all thoughts out of her head as she closed her eye’s and eventually feel into a dreamless sleep.

*************************************************************

“So what exactly did you do with your day?” Isabel asked curiously as she took a sip of Coke. Both Max and Isabel sat at the table in the kitchen eating a brand new recipe that Dianne Evans had just prepared.

“Nothing,” Max answered, taking a bite of the meal his mom had prepared. He immediately spat it back out in his plate, quickly grabbing his glass of water and taking a sip.

“I know, it’s not the best thing she’s ever made,” Isabel replied as she watched her brother’s face. “You know how mom get’s when it comes to cooking, Max. Just tell her it’s good.”

“But then she’ll make more,” Max replied, putting down his glass.

“Let’s just head to the Crashdown and grab a burger there,” Isabel said, throwing down her napkin. “I’ll give Michael a call and see if he wants to meet us there.”

“No.” Max burst out immediately before Isabel had a chance to reach for the phone. “Don’t.”

“Your passing up a burger from the Crashdown, Max.” Isabel said with a sighed as she withdrew her hand from the phone. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong,” Max answered quickly as he grabbed his plate and stood up. “I’m just not hungry, that’s all.”

“Um, okay,” Isabel said, frowning slightly. “Liz is going to be there, I thought that would be enough to make you want to go.

“She’s not there.” Max answered, dumping the contents of his plate down in the garbage.

“She’s not working tonight?” Isabel asked as she grabbed her own plate and stood up.

“She’s won’t be working there for a while,” Max answered, pain constricting his heart.

“What do you mean?” Isabel asked, “Did you talk to her?”

Max looked up from the sink at his sister, his face falling completely. Isabel could see by her brother’s crestfallen face that he apparently had.

“You did, didn’t you?” Isabel said, depositing her plate in the sink and placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry,”

She hated seeing her brother this way, but in a way she couldn’t help but feel as though he deserved what he had. For God’s sake he had slept with a murdering ho who had killed Alex.

“She hates me,” Max said, shaking his head. “God, she can’t even look at me anymore.”

Isabel sighed deeply, her hand still lightly resting on Max’s shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Max.” She said finally, “But this is going to take some time. This isn’t just something she can forget about. You slept with Tess and got her pregnant. It’s going to take some time for her to forgive you. I think what you need to do right now is just give her some space.”

“I know, Iz,” He said, “I know that I need to give her some space. But...I miss her. I just wish she would talk to me.”

“She will,” Isabel said, “Eventually. In the meantime, why don’t come with me and Michael to the Crashdown? We can go see a movie afterwards. That’ll take your mind off of thing’s.”

“Thanks, but, I don’t think so,” Max answered, “I’m kinda of tired right now. I think I’ll just go upstairs and try to get some sleep. I haven’t been sleeping well lately.”

“Okay, fine.” Isabel said, “I’ll be at the Crashdown if you change your mind.”

She gave her brother a reassuring smile and a small pat on the back before grabbing her mom’s car keys and purse, shooting Max one last look before heading out by the back door, leaving Max alone in the house. Thankfully Dianne and Philip Evans were gone for the weekend, which meant that Max could mope around the house without being asked a million questions about why he was feeling so down.

Max dragged his tired body up the stairs and down to narrow hallway to his bedroom. Once he was in and that the door was tightly closed behind him, he collapsed on his bed. God he was so tired. He had barely been able to sleep for the past couple of days and it was killing him. He was so tired but everytime he closed his eyes and fell asleep, that’s when the nightmares started.

He closed his eye’s shut tightly and soon enough fell into a troubled sleep.

*****

Her body covered Max’s as they lay on the cold floor of the observatory, but Max didn’t notice this. The feel of her small hands pulling at the hem of his shirt it all he was focused on. His owns hands began lifting the hem of her shirt until only her bra separated their naked torsos.

Mouths came together again passionately as Max pulled one bra strap down and then the other. She reached behind her and clumsily unhooked the bra in eagerness to feel her naked skin against his.

“Max” she moaned.

Max rolled them over so that he was on top, his mouth trailing from her mouth, down her neck until his eyes feasted on her breasts. Max’s hands cupped her, testing the weight and feel of them in his hands before leaning in and slowly taking one rosy nipple into his mouth, sucking on it until it was rock hard before moving on to the other.

“Beautiful” he whispered.

Her small hands caressed his chest, sweeping down until they were resting on the button to his jeans. Without words they worked together to remove them, and then slowly removed her jeans as well. The only barrier left between them was his satin boxers and her small thong panties.

Legs entwined, their hands began exploring each other’s body. Her small hands sneaking under the fabric of his boxers so he could caress his toned ass.

“Off” she grunted in protest and she began using her feet to manoeuvre the material down his legs.

Max caressed her thighs, his hand skimming higher with every sweep until he was cupping her over the cotton of her panties. Her hips rose to meet his caress and a low moan escaped her swollen lips.

Max teased a finger under the fabric and her juices immediately coated it. “You’re so wet,” he whispered in awe.

Unable to hold back a second longer he pulled back and hooking his fingers in the side of her panties began to slide them down her legs. Once they were discarded off with the other clothes he settled between her open legs and groaned when his hardness immediately settled against her hot, wet core.

“I need you,” she whispered. “I want you,” she added.

Max leaned in and kissed her again as a finger slid inside of her to ensure that she was ready for him. After a few strokes he pulled it back out and replaced it with the tip of his cock. He teased her gently with it before sliding it in slowly not wanting to hurt her for a second, and he stopped surprised when he met her barrier, and turned confused eyes to her.

“I love you,” she whispered as her small hands cupped his ass and pushed him forwarded causing him to surge through her barrier.

He settled a hand between them and healed the pain she was feeling before slowly pulling out and sliding back in. Her legs wrapped around his waist, helping him sink deeper as her small moans drove him on.

Their sweat covered bodies glided against each other, seeking the culmination that they both knew was coming.

Her walls tightened around him and her cry of delight sent him over the edge with her.

Max collapsed against her body exhausted but happier then he ever remembered being. He felt her small hand stroking his hair and rolled onto his back taking her with him.

Max opened his eyes then and her blue eyes were shinning at him. “I love you Max and that was perfect” she told him.

*****

Max sat up, gasping for air as he clutched the sides of his bed.

These nightmares had to stop.

Fantasies in the Flesh

- Chapter 2 -

Liz walked down the stairs and entered the Crashdown Café where her parents were sitting down at the stools, sipping they’re daily morning coffee cups. The Crashdown was fairly empty apart from the elderly couple sitting near the very front of the restaurant and a man in his mid-forties was sitting at one of the booths reading the morning paper.

“Good morning,” Liz said, giving her parents a small kiss on the cheek before going behind the counter to fill herself a cup of coffee.

“Good morning yourself,” Nancy said, “By the way, Maria just called. She said she won’t be able to pick you up this morning, something came up. She said she’ll see you at school.”

Liz frowned a little as she poured herself a cup of coffee. Maria always picked her up. What could of come up that was so important that she couldn’t come by and do the same this morning?

“Okay,” Liz answered. “I’ll just take the bus.”

“Oh, well, why don’t you take my car this morning?” Nancy suggested. “I’m not going anywhere today, these health inspectors are coming by. Besides, if I need to run and errand I’ll just use you’re fathers car.”

“Oh,” Liz said, slightly surprised that her mother was leaving her the car. “Alright, I don’t mind doing that.” She paused, still wondering about Maria. “Did Maria say where she was going or what had come up?”

“No,” Nancy answered. “She didn’t say why, she just said something had come up.”

“Oh,” Liz said, taking a sip of her coffee. “Okay, then, I better get out of here or I’m going to be late for school.”

“Lizzie,” Her father said with a small laugh. “It’s the last day of school. I highly doubt they’ll do anything to you if you’re late.”

“I know,” Liz answered. “I just don’t like to be late, you know me.”

“Yeah,” Jeff said. “Well, go on to school then.”

“Bye guy’s.” Liz said, smiling as she grabbed her school back from the counter.

“Here, the key’s to the car,” Her mom said, throwing Liz the key’s. “Have a nice day, hon.”

“You guy’s have a nice day, too.” Liz answered as she headed out the front door of the Crashdown. She immediately headed for her mother’s Mazda that was parked right outside the restaurant. She couldn’t believe that today was finally the last day of school. And yet she still had no what she would be doing this summer. What with everything that had happened in the last few months, with Alex dying, and finding out that Tess was the one who had killed him. With finding out that Max slept with Tess and got her pregnant. Everything had gotten so strange between her and Max, they barely talked anymore, mainly because she kept trying to hide from Max. She had quit her job at the Crashdown the day before just so that she could avoid him some more. So what should she do this summer? She didn’t want to stay here. Because if she did stay here she knew that she would just land up thinking about Max 24/7 until it drove her straight out of her mind. But on he other hand, she didn’t really want to leave again this summer, she wanted to stay with Maria and Kyle and enjoy her summer here in New Mexico.

*************************************************************

From underneath the trees, we watch the sky
Confusing stars for satellites
I never dreamed that you'd be mine
But here we are, we're here tonight

Maria pulled out of the driveway and started down the street with the windows rolled down and the music playing full blast. There was nothing that woke her up better than blasting music early in the morning. This was better than coffee. Or maybe not.

If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
We'd see the day when nobody died

She continued down the street towards the Crashdown where she was supposed to be picking up Liz in approximately five minutes from now so the two could grab breakfast and head on to school. Only before she could even reach the Crashdown, her cell phone rang. She could barely hear it ring over the sound of the blasting music but she could still hear it. Quickly, she turned the music down and reached across the passenger seat to grab the small phone from her school bag. Once she had finally gotten her hands on it she quickly pressed the talk button and held the phone to her ear.

“Hello?” She said into the phone. “What!? You have got to be kidding me, why are you calling me?? You do know that right now you are not at all my favorite person.” She waited several seconds for her the person on the other line to reply. “I- fine, I’ll be there in about ten minutes. But I want you to know that I’m not happy about this. Not happy at all. Liz is my best friend and I feel like I’m betraying her by doing this no matter how much you need it.”

She clicked off the phone and threw it back on the passenger seat. She looked in her rearview mirror, making sure that there wasn’t a car behind her. She looked all around, making sure the way was clear before pulling her car to the side and making a U-Turn. Once her car was turned around she grabbed her phone and dialed the Parker’s phone number, explaining to Mrs.Parker that she wouldn’t be able to pick Liz up today to bring her to school She apologized one last time before clicking the phone off and throwing it back in it’s place.

She let out a small sighed as she reached out and cranked the volume back up really loud. Liz wouldn’t be happy if she knew where Maria was going. She simply wouldn’t tell Liz, she didn’t any extra stress.

Maria gripped the steering wheel a little tighter as the music continued to blast out of the speakers.

And as we lie beneath the stars
We realize how small we are
If they could love like you and me
Imagine what the world could be

*************************************************************

Ten minutes later, Maria’s car was parked outside the Evans’s front door. She looked at her reflection one last time before exiting her car and walking up to the front door. Should she ring the doorbell or knock? We’re the Evans’s all awake by this time?

Before she had a chance to do anything, the door opened revealing Max. Max, who didn’t look too good right now. His skin was paler than usual, and his eye’s looked sunken in. Looks like he hadn’t gotten much sleep in the last couple of day’s.

“You called,” Maria stated as she stood on his front porch, both arms crossed defiantly across her chest.

“I did,” Max said, stepping aside to let her in. “Come in, my parent’s are out and Isabel just left for school.”

“Why did you call me to come here, Max?” Maria asked, getting straight to the point. She didn’t even want to be here in the first place. Right now Max Evans was not someone she wanted to be having a conversation with. Not with everything he had caused and everything he had done to her best friend.

“I know you don’t want to be here,” Max said with a small sighed. “I just really needed to talk to you, Maria.”

“About what?” Maria asked. “And why couldn’t you just tell me at school?”

“Because,” Max answered. “You’re always with Liz at school. There’s no way I could of talked to you without her knowing.”

“Fine,” Maria said. “What is then? What do yo want to tell me?”

“Can’t you just come in?” Max asked warily.

“Not before you tell me what it is you want to talk about,” Maria said. “Until you tell me, I’m not budging.”

“Liz.” Max answered plainly. “I want to talk to you about Liz.”

“Figures you’d drag my ass all the way across town to talk about her,” Maria said as she entered the house. Max quietly closed the door behind her.

“So?” Maria said, turning to look at Max. “What about Liz?”

“I miss her, Maria.” He said quietly. “I need her.”

“Yeah?” Maria said, “Should of thought about that before you screwed Tess and knocked her up.”

“Maria,” Max said, “Look, I don’t know why the hell I did that, okay? It’s just- I felt so...alone. I was all alone. Liz had just told me that our friendship was over, she ran off to Sweden to investigate Alex’s death. My own sister wasn’t talking to me because I had been acting like a real idiot with her, I told her she couldn’t go to University in San Francisco, that if she ever left without me consent I would tell my parents all these, like that she was on drugs and that she had cheated on her exams for the last couple of year’s. I had no one anymore, Maria. I was lost and alone because I had turned everyone against me. The only one who was there for me was, well, Tess.”

“So you fucked her.” Maria said, icily. “Lovely ending to such a tragic story. Can I go now? I have somewhere to be.”

“Maria, I need Liz,” Max said, “I miss her so much. I just need for her to start talking to me again. I want to tell her everything, I want to explain myself to her. I...don’t want her to hate me for what I did.”

“I’m sorry, Max.” Maria answered. “I just can’t help you. I wish I could, but if Liz doesn’t want to be with you let alone talk to you, I can’t do anything about it. It’s not my decision to make.” She paused, looking Max up and down. “You should stay home today and get some sleep. You look like crap.”

“I can’t,” Max answered. “I have to get to school, clean out my locker.”

“Can’t Isabel do that for you?” Maria asked.

“No,” Max answered. “She can’t. I got to go. What would I do If I stayed here anyway’s? I can’t sleep.”

“Why not?” Maria asked curiously.

“It’s nothing,” Max answered. “Nightmares, that’s all. It’s nothing to be worried about.”

“I’m not worried.” Maria said quickly. “I have to go now.”

“Wait,” Max said, stopping her by putting a gently hand on her arm. “Are you sure you can’t talk to her? Just tell her that I want to talk to her. Just one small talk, that’s all I’m asking for. If she doesn’t want to talk to me after that, it’s fine with me.”

“Fine,” Maria said. “I can try. But I don’t think it’ll happen. She’s too...hurt by everything that’s happened, Max. She needs more time. Heck, I’ll tell you the truth I don’t even think she’ll be staying in Roswell this summer again. I think she might be heading back to Florida to her Aunt’s house.”

Max’s face fell. Liz was planning on leaving Roswell again this summer?

“Maria, if she’s doing this because of me,” He said, the hurt now evident in his voice. “Tell her not to leave because of me. I’ll stay away from her if she stays, I promise. Just, please,” He begged, his voice cracking. “Don’t let her leave again.”

“I don’t know what will happen, Max.” Maria said sadly. She couldn’t help but feel bad for the man who stood before her. He looked so lost, confused and...hurt. “I really don’t know. I just really think she needs some time away from this place. Too much as happened. She needs time and space to deal with everything.”

She sidestepped him and walked out of the house without another word. Max closed the door behind her once she had left. His life was so messed up right now. He didn’t know what to do about. He needed Liz, but now that she was maybe leaving for Florida again this summer, he didn’t know what he was going to do.

He leaned against the wall, closing his eye’s, trying to stop the tears from forming in his eye’s. He slowly slid to the floor, unable to keep the tears from coming. He hugged his knee’s, burying his face in his hands as the tears flowed.

What was he going to do?

“Michael, this is bad.” Isabel said as the two walked down the hallway of West Roswell High. “He’s like depressed or something.”

“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Michael answered, shaking his head. “He’ll deal. He just needs more time that’s all.”

“It’s already been a week since Tess left,” Isabel hissed. “He’s been locked up in his room half the time. He barely sleeps, he’s been having nightmares.”

“Just give him some space, Is.” Michael said. The two walked on just as Liz came in through the door’s. She was wearing a simply jean skirt with a black tank-top. Her long dark brown hair was pulled back away from her face into a simply ponytail.

“I have an idea,” Isabel said quietly as she watched the petite brunette head on down the hall towards her locker.

“What?” Michael asked confused.

“I’ll see you later, Michael.” Isabel said as she started walking off towards Liz. Michael merely shrugged and turned the other way, heading towards his own locker.

“Liz, wait up.” Isabel called out to Liz as she hurried after her .Liz immediately turned around when she heard her name being called.

“Hey, Liz.” Isabel said as she got to Liz’s locker. “Can we talk?”

“Um, sure.” Liz said answered. “What is it?”

“Look, I know I haven’t been the nicest person to you lately.” Isabel said. “Actually I think I’ve been a real bitch to everyone. I’ve just been trying to deal with...Alex’ death, but it’s been hard, you know. Especially with finding out that Tess was the one who...you know.”

“Yeah,” Liz said quietly.

“Anyway’s,” Isabel said. “I want to try to make it up to you. To you and Maria. So, since it’s the last day of school and all, I was wondering maybe if you’d like to come over tonight. Both you and Maria, we could rent a couple of movies, and just talk and hang out or something.”

Liz’s head began to spin. Isabel Evans was being nice to her? And, oh, God, if Isabel wanted her to come over at her house tonight, God, she was sure to run into Max. And that is not something she wanted. But on the other hand, Isabel was being really nice and she looked like she really wanted this. Liz didn’t want to say no to her.

“Um,” Liz said, unsure of what to say. “I- I guess that would be fine with me.”

“Great!” Isabel said excitedly. “I can’t wait! I’ll ask Maria llater on when I see her in Trig. And I’ll see you tonight at around 7, is that okay with you?”

“Sure,” Liz said, putting on a smile. “I’ll see you tonight at 7"

Liz watched as Isabel smiled and headed down the hall.

Great, what had she just agreed to?

Fantasies in The Flesh

Chapter.Three

Liz stopped her mother’s car right in front of the Evans’s house. She couldn’t believe what she was about to do. How on earth could she have accepted Isabel’s invitation? Who was she kidding!? She couldn’t possibly stay in the same house in which Max was staying! Even though it was only for one night! She couldn’t do this!

“You okay?” Maria asked from beside her. She was sitting in the passenger sea, one hand on the door handle, ready to step out of the car.

“I- yeah, of course.” Liz answered quickly. She didn’t want Maria thinking that there was something wrong.

“You’re lying,” Maria said, “Liz, sweetie, I’m your best friend. Tell me what the problem is and I’ll do everything in my power to help you with whatever it is that’s bothering you.”

Liz swallowed hard. “It’s just- I mean, I don’t know.”

“You’re scared of running into Max?” Maria asked, speaking Liz’s thoughts. “Which is a very big possibility considering he lives here.”

“I- yeah.” Liz admitted defeated. “I know it sounds completely ridiculous. I don’t know why I’m even acting like this. It’s just, If I run into him then he’s going to want to talk and...I don’t want to talk to him right now. Not so soon. I need more...time.”

“I understand,” Maria said sincerely. “I absolutely understand. So then why don’t I just tell Isabel-”

“No,” Liz said quickly. “There’s no way I’m backing out of this now, Maria. I told Isabel I’d be there and that’s exactly what I’m planning on doing.”

“Are you sure?” Maria asked. “Because I can get us out of here.”

“No,” Liz said, “I’ll be okay.”

“Okay,” Maria said. “I got your back, Parker. I won’t let Max Evans get near you, I promise.”

*************************************************************

Isabel placed the last bowl of chips on the small table in the living room. The table was loaded with junk food.

“What’s going on here?” Max asked, stepping inside the living room wearing a simple pair of jeans and rust-colored shirt. “Is the Queen coming over or something? There’s enough food here to feed the entire Roswell High population.”

“Yeah,” Isabel said, straightening up as she glanced at the clock behind her on the wall. “Crap, they’ll be here any minute, I still have to go get the movie.”

“Iz, who’s coming over?” Max asked, curiously.

“Oh, didn’t I tell you?” Isabel asked, turning around to face Max. “I sort of invited Maria and Liz to come spend the night tonight.”

Isabel watched Max’s face turn to shock.

“What?” He said. “Liz is coming over?”

“And Maria.” Isabel said, walking past her brother.

“Why didn’t you tell me this before?” Max asked, turning to face his sister.

“I forgot.” Isabel said with a small shrug. “God, Max, it’s nothing big. It’s just a sort of small get together to celebrate the end of this very long and painful year.”

“Oh,” Max said quietly. Before he had the chance to say something, the doorbell rang.

“Ooh, that must be them,” Isabel replied quickly. “Look, I need to get changed, can you get that?” Before Max could start complaining, Isabel turned and headed up the stairs to get changed. She couldn’t help but smile to herself as she headed towards her room. She had a plan in mind and no one was going to stop it.

Back downstairs, Max stood in the living room helplessly as the doorbell rang for the second time. He knew he had to go and get the door, but , he just couldn’t bring himself to doing it.

“MAX, GET THE DOOR!” He heard Isabel yell at him from upstairs.

Max turned and headed down the hall towards the door. He took a deep breath before reaching out and turning the doorknob. He pulled the door open revealing Maria and Liz. His breath caught in his throat when he spotted Liz. She was wearing a pair of jeans and black top that fit her perfectly. She looked absolutely gorgeous.

“Max,” Maria said with a small sighed.

“Um, Hi.” He said, trying really hard not to start staring at Liz. “You can come in, Isabel will be right downstairs she just went up to change.”

Maria nodded and took a step inside, Max stood back to let the two of them in just as Isabel walked back down the stairs.

“Hey guy’s!” Isabel said, a wide smile forming on her face. “I’m glad you two decided to come. We’re gonna have tons of fun tonight, I rented two amazing movies, I know you’re going to love them!”
Maria smiled. “That’s great, I’ve been waiting so long to see a good movie. And a night with you guy’s is just what I needed this week.”

“Yeah, thanks for inviting us over,” Liz said, mustering a small smile as she stood next to Maria.

“I’ll just, uh, be in my room,” Max said quietly. He walked down the hallway and up the flight of stairs that led to his bedroom.

“So what movies did you rent?” Maria asked as Isabel led the way into the living room.

“I rented this suspense movie, Cellular.” Isabel said. “It’s supposed to be completely awesome. And the guy who plays in it is beyond gorgeous.”

“Ooh, hot guy’s.” Maria said, a wide smile on her face.

“I also rented that movie that just came out with Mandy Moore,” Isabel continued. “Real heartbreaking story apparently.”

“Sounds great,” Maria said. “This is going to be awesome. But if you’ll just excuse me for a second, I’d like to go to the bathroom.”

“Sure,” Isabel said. “Go ahead, you know where it is.”

“Okay,” Maria said before bouncing out of view, heading towards the stairs. Once Maria was gone, Isabel turned to face Liz.

“Are you okay?” Isabel asked the petite brunette who stood next to her.

“Oh, yeah, I am.” Liz answered immediately.

“Are you sure?” Isabel said. “Because, you know, if you ever want to talk about anything, I’m here. I know I’m not Maria, but I still went through what you did. I lost Alex too and I know how you feel. And I know how you feel about this whole Tess thing, she betrayed me too.”

“I know,” Liz answered. “It’s just- I don’t know. I guess I’m just really confused right now. About different thing’s I guess.”

“Thing’s like my brother?” Isabel asked gently.

“I-” Liz began. She felt weird talking to Isabel about her feeling's for Max. She didn't know why. Maybe it was simply because Isabel was Max's brother. “Kind of, yes, I guess.”

“Because he slept with Tess?” Isabel said. “I know it must be hard. Hell I’ve never been through anything like it but I know that it must be hard.”

“It is.” Liz answered with a sigh. “And I- I don’t know what to do right now I just feel so lost and confused. Even with everything I’ve been through in the last couple of weeks and months, I know that I still...love your brother. I just don’t think that it’s possible for him and I to go back to the way we were a year ago. I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

*************************************************************

Maria walked up the stairs towards the upstairs bathroom. Before she had a chance to reach her destination, one of the doors opened up and Max walked out.

“Oh, hi.” Max said, startled to see Maria there. “What are you doing up here?”

“Bathroom.” Maria replied. “Where you going?”

“I was thinking of heading over to Michael’s,” Max replied with a small shrug.

“Oh, right.” Maria said. “That’s good. That’s actually very good.”

“Right.” Max said, taking a step forward but Maria stopped him before he could pass her.

“I thought about it.” Maria said slowly. “About the whole you and Liz situation.” She had finally come to a decision. She hated seeing Liz the way she was right now. The truth was, she was miserable without Max and Maria knew it. No matter how much Liz bitched about him, Maria knew that deep down Liz still loved Max deeply. And Maria also knew that withought Liz, Max was basically a big...shell of nothing. Liz dererved to be happy.

“Not here.” Max said tersely. “Come on here,” He took her by the arm gently and took her inside his room, closing the door gently behind him. “What is it? Did you talk to Liz for me?”

“No.” Maria said quickly. “I haven’t. And I’m not really planning on doing it anytime soon.”

“Then what do you want from me?” Max asked desperately.

“I do want to help you,” She said quietly. “Because Liz is my best friend and she deserves to be happy. And you’re the one who makes her happy. Or used to make her happy anyway’s. That is, until you knocked up that blonde murdering bitch and...” She trailed off. She was sure that Max didn't need another lecture on everything he had screwed up in the past couple of months. She had already given him plenty of those. “My point is," She continued, "I think I’m actually willing to give it a try. I want to help get you and Liz back together. Only it’s going to take a hell of a lot of work from you, Evans. I'm not going to be doing this all by myself, I'm going to need your full participation."

“Anything.” Max said, letting out a huge sigh of relief. “I’ll do anything it takes, Maria. I love her and I’m willing to do anything to get her back into my arms, I swear."

“Good.” Maria said. “Now I have to go before Liz and Isabel get highly suspicious. Look, I’ll talk to you more about my big plan tommorow, okay?”

“Okay,” Max said. Maria nodded and turned around, slipping out the door to Max’s room.

“Thank you,” Max said before she had a chance to close the door behind her.

“Yeah,” Maria said. “I’m only doing this for, Liz, buddy. I hate seeing her the way she is right now. I'm not doing this for you because like I mentioned a couple of hundred times this week, you're not my favourite person right now."

And without another word she closed the door quietly as possible and snuck back down the stairs. She hoped that Liz and Isabel wouldn't start asking questions.

“Hey,” She said when she spotted Isabel and Liz. “So, the movie. We better start it n ow, no? I want to get to see both tonight!”

Isabel frowned. Something was definitely up with Maria. Hell she hadn’t even flushed the toilet. She had probably gone up there to talk to Max...but what about exactly?

Isabel smiled as brightly as she could, trying to put all of this aside for now. She would deal with the whole Max thing later. Right now she wanted to enjoy a good movie, something she hadn't done in a very long time. “Alright guy’s, let’s get this movie started.”

Fantasies in the Flesh. Ch.4

Liz’s stirred slowly. Her eye’s began to open slowly and she was immediately blinded by the sunlight that was pouring in through the windows. It took her several seconds to realize where she was.

She slowly sat up. She turned to the side and saw that Maria and Isabel we’re still fast asleep. She turned to look at the clock, which read 8:54 a.m.

She slowly got to her feet, careful not to wake either of them up. She tip-toed to the door to Isabel’s bedroom and carefully opened it, stepping out into the hallway. Her throat was dry and she desperately needed a glass of water.

She walked down the hall and then down the stairs that led to the living room and the kitchen. She didn’t even notice that Max’s bedroom door was opened...

She walked towards the kitchen, turned the corner and ran smack into Max, who immediately reached out to steady her before she had a chance to fall flat on her face.

“Oh, God.” Liz gasped. “I’m so sorry.” She said. “I didn’t think you’d be down here, I would of thought you’d be sleeping!”

“Um, no.” Max said, his hands still gripped to the sides of her arms. “I couldn’t sleep actually. I came down here to get something to drink.”

“Right,” Liz said, her heart still beating rapidly from the scare she had had when she had bumped into Max. Her eye’s flew down to Max’s hand, who were still firmly on her arms. Max immediately withdrew his hands when he saw the look on her face.

“I-I’m sorry.” He said quietly. “I didn’t mean too, I just-”

“It’s okay.” Liz reassured him with a small smile.

“Okay,” Max said. “Um, did you want something to drink too?”

“Actually, I did.” Liz admitted. “My throat’s just kind of dry.”

“Do you want orange juice?” Max asked, turning and heading for the fridge. “Or maybe you’d like water better?”

“Water’s fine,” Liz said as Max reached out inside the fridge and retrieved two water bottles, one for Liz and one for himself.

“Here you go,” He said, handing over the water bottle. She took it and thanked him before opening the water bottle and taking a small sip.
“So,” Max said. Liz could see that he was desperately trying to make conversation. “Did you sleep alright?”

“Yeah,” Liz answered, not quite making eye contact with him. “I slept good.”

“You know, my sister usually doesn’t wake up before 11 during the summer,” Max said. “So, you’re going to be waiting a while before she wake’s up. Do you want to watch tv or something? Or how about breakfast?” He said. “I make really good pancakes.” He added with a small smile.

“I-” Liz started, swallowing hard. What was she suppose to do now? She didn’t want to hurt his feeling’s but on the other hand...she just couldn’t be in the same room alone with him for more than five minutes right now. “Thanks, but, no thanks. I’ll just head back upstairs and see if Maria’s up. And If she’s not, then I’ll just try to go back to sleep for a little longer.”

Liz watched Max’ face fall. She could see the pain flicker in his eye’s before he quickly blinked and his face quickly became unreadable.

“Alright,” He answered. “Well, I’ll just head back up to my room myself.” He tried to give her a small smile but failed miserably. Instead he only nodded and started to walk past her.

Liz knew that she would probably regret doing this later on, but she simply couldn’t bear to see such pain etched on his face. Even though she knew that he had hurt her too by sleeping with Tess and getting her pregnant.

“Wait,” She blurted out, turning to face him. “I, uh, you know, pancakes actually sound kind of good to me right now.”

Liz watched as Max burst into a wide smile. “Yeah?” He said, smiling down at her. “Okay then. I’ll make you the best pancakes in town. You can go in the living room and watch tv if you want while I make them.”

Liz mustered a small smile. “Okay.” She said. “I’ll do that.” She walked past him and headed for the living room. She quickly found the remote and clicked open the tv while she sat on the couch.

She just hoped that either Maria or Isabel would wake up before Max was done doing to pancakes. Having him cook breakfast for her while she sat in the living room watching tv was one thing. But being all alone in the kitchen sitting at the dinner table and eating pancakes while he sat in front of her, the two of them alone in the kitchen, was something else. Maybe she should just head upstairs and wake Maria up. It’s not like Maria would mind right?

Before Liz had a chance to get off the couch, Maria herself walked into the living room, yawning and stretching her arm’s.

Thank you, God, Liz thought, and couldn’t help but smile.

“Hey,” Liz said as Maria walked over and collapsed on the couch next to her.

“Hey, girlfriend.” Maria said, “How long have you been up?”

“It’s only been a couple of minute’s actually.” Liz said. “I came down for a drink and I ran into Max. Literally.”

“You did?” Maria asked, her eyebrow shooting upward. She craned her neck, looking around. “Where is he now?”

“He’s in the kitchen.” Liz answered. “Making pancakes.”

“Is he really?” Maria asked, her mouth almost falling open. “Well, I’m going to have to go see that for myself.” She got up from the couch, yawned one more time and headed towards the kitchen. Sure enough, Max was in there. Making pancakes.

“Hey there.” Maria said, standing in the doorway of the kitchen with her arm’s crossed. “Whatcha doin’?”

Max, whipped around, surprised at having Maria standing in the doorway of his kitchen. “I- you scared me.” He said. “I was just-”

“Making pancakes for your wannabe girlfriend in the living room, right?” Maria asked. “Liz told me that you were making pancakes in here.”

“Yeah.” Max answered, running a hand through his hair. “I was. Is that okay?” He added.

“Sure,” Maria answered with a small sigh as she walked in the kitchen. “Need a hand?”

“No,” Max answered. “I’m fine. I don’t need the help.”

“Okay then,” Maria said. “I’ll be in the living room with Liz if you need any help, kay?”

“Sure,” Max said, giving her a small half-smile. She turned and left the kitchen, heading back inside the living room where Liz was busy flipping the channels on the tv.

“Here,” Liz said, throwing the remote to Maria. “There’s nothing good on.”

“I feel your pain,” Maria said with a little sigh. “I have to go to washroom, okay? I’ll be right back.”

She turned around and headed towards the stairs only once she made it up the stairs, she immediately wasted no time and headed towards Isabel’s room, who was still sleeping peacefully in her bed.

“Isabel,” Maria said, poking her. “Wake up!”

“Ughh, go away!” Isabel said with a groan. “Seriously. It’s too early to wake up now.”

“Wake up!” Maria repeated, shaking her awake. “Max is making pancakes for Liz and we need to get out of the house so they can have some alone time together.”

“Uhh? What?” Isabel said, her eye’s snapping open. She turned to Maria. “Are you crazy? We can’t do that to Liz, she’s going to kill us.”

“Don’t you think I know that?” Maria said. “She will kill me if she ever finds out that I’m about to leave her here alone with Max. But I have to do this. And your coming with me! So get out of bed now missy and get dressed, quickly!”

“What are you going to tell Liz?” Isabel asked as she groggily pushed the covers off of her bed and stood up, grabbing the first pair of jeans and shirt that she saw lying on her dresser.

“I’m going to tell her that my shift is starting in ten minutes and that I have to go to the Crashdown and that you have to come with me.” Maria explained.

“She’s going to find that suspicious.” Isabel said. “And you know it.”

“Do you have another idea?” Maria asked, crossing her arm’s over her chest.

“Isn’t her birthday coming up soon?” Isabel asked. “We can tell her we’re going to buy her a gift.”

“Fine,” Maria said. “Now hurry up and go get dressed. I’ll go get dressed myself and then I’ll head downstairs to tell her and Max that we have to leave.”

“She’s not going to be happy.” Isabel hissed.

“It’s for her own good.” Maria said. “Someday. Some very far away day, she’ll thank me for doing this, trust me.”

And with that she grabbed her clothes off the floor and quickly headed to the bathroom to get changed. Once she had changed into a jean skirt and yellow top, she excited the bathroom and headed back downstairs.

“Your back,” Liz said, glancing at her as she walked back into the living room dressed. “That took a while. And why did you change?”

“Isabel and I are going.” Maria blurted out just as Isabel walked into the room, all dressed up herself.

“What?” Liz said, staring wide-eyed at both Maria and Isabel. “What do you mean your leaving?”

Just then Max walked into the room, having obviously heard Maria and Isabel’s comment about them leaving.

“We’re going shopping.” Isabel explained. “You’re birthday’s coming up and we just thought we’d go out and buy you something.”
“Yup.” Maria said, putting a smile on her face.

“Wait a second.” Liz said, “You’re just going to leave me here all alone?”

“You’re not alone,” Isabel said, shooting her brother a look. “You have Max. Besides, Maria and I will be back in about an hour so you have nothing to be worried about.”

“But-” Liz said, trying to protest.

“We’ll see you later, chica.” Maria said, grabbing her purse from the couch. “Bye guy’s, we’ll see you later!” She said before both she and Isabel walked out of the living room and out of the house.

How the hell could they do this to her!? How could Maria do this to her!? Her best friend!? Ooh, she was going to kill Maria when she got her alone. She was going to

"Liz," Max's voice broke through her thought's. "I- I'm sorry." He said. "I would understand if you just left and went back home, trust me. I know how much you don't want to be around me right now and I completely understand it."

"Oh," Liz said as she turned to look at Max. "It's fine, really. Okay, so, yeah, this is a little...weird, for both of us.”

“Yeah,” Max said, nodding.

“But I’ll stay,” Liz said, giving him a small smile.

“Yeah?” Max asked, not being able to hide the small smile from his face.

“Yeah,” Liz answered. “I mean, why not? I love pancakes.”

"That's good," He answered, releived that she wasn't leaving. "I'm glad you're staying." Maybe this was a start. Maybe he could slowly and gradually make her change her mind about being with him. He didn't care what he had to do or how much time it was going to take, but he was determined to make have her in his arm's again.
