I edited my post, Trude.
*Michael*
Kyle doesn't respond so I barrell right on out of the room. Gotta kick this night up into SOMETHING. Just don't know what yet. I'll try that club. It's not Sunday, but maybe Candy will be there.
Stepping into the hall, I see Max and Liz still standing there in the hall at almost the same place they were when I went into my room a few minutes ago. They're standing so close together, but Max steps back as soon as I walk towards them. What's up with that?
*Max*
Liz says nothing but 'thanks' and gives a small smile but she didn't actually tell me anything I could do to help her. I don't know what to do about that and before I can decide my next move, Michael comes barging out of his room. He doesn't need to pass this way. Kyle went into that room a moment before without coming close, but Michael doesn't seem to care. He turns and comes towards us instead of straight for the stair. I step back a few inches as he approaches.
"What? You working on being a hallway decoration, Evans?" Michael asks, his voice a challenge. "I got news for you. Ya ain't that pretty."
I try not to get defensive but sometimes just hearing his voice makes me want to tense up. "Well, I suppose that's my problem, not yours," I tell him.
"You're wrong there. I gotta look at you, afterall. So does Liz. At least she's got some looks. Give the girl a break," Michael says. "Me, I got better things to do." He turns and walks noisily down the stairs.
I turn back to Liz, feeling a bit sheepish. "Well, maybe I should let you get to bed then, huh? Let me know in the morning if you think of something, okay?" I pause just a moment, fighting the urge to get close to her again. There's no
reason for it, afterall. She's just a friend and that's all she wants to be. "Sleep well."
