This is the place to post all your General Roswell fanfiction. Any Canon fics, which pick up directly from any episode of the show and that focus on Max/Liz, Michael/Maria, Isabel/Alex or Isabel/Jesse, Kyle/Tess, or all the couples together! Rule of Thumb: If Max healed Liz in the Crashdown in September 1999, then your fic belongs here. If it picks up from the show in any way, it belongs here.

Chapter 6 – Tess, Lies and Videotapes

It took exactly three second and only a person for the good mood to evaporate. Sheriff Valenti came in the Crashdown with his usual unreadable face, asked for the same as always, and went out. That was all it took for the speculations to start. He had the orb and Michael felt responsible for what happened during the Topolosky fiasco and as always when he felt guilty he started to get angry with the others. We were so taken by our argument that we didn't see her came in until it was too late.

“What what is?” The new girl appeared near Liz. “Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt anything.” she added probably after seeing our pale faces.

“No, no. Hey we were just... um...” she couldn't seem to decide what to say. “Why don't you join us? Have a seat.”

“Thanks.” the new girl smiled and gladly sat herself in the chair in front of Liz.

“Sure.”

“So, what were you guys talking about?” Max was looking at her, he couldn't remember her name, but there was something in her that was giving him a strange feeling in his gut.

“Can I get you something to drink, Tess?” Liz said when no one answered her after some second. Max turned toward her and smiled a little, letting her now that he wasn't ignoring her. He let their bond opens, letting their feeling for one another, and thoughts, flew from one mind to the other.

“Oh, thanks. Uh, Cherry coke with lime.” at her words Max turned again toward Tess and that same strange feeling to his gut came back with vengeance.

He was in the desert, he didn't recognize the place, Tess was with him, he had her hand in his.

“What's the matter?” he was back in the present, he was still looking a Tess and he had a flash. “Do I have something in my teeth?”

“What? No.” he turned towards his girlfriend again. “Let me help you with that.” they went to the back and Max hugged her.

“Max, what's happening, I felt you panic a second ago.” she took his hands in hers.

“I had a flash, on Tess.”

“But you weren't touching...” Max could feel how the thought of him having a flash with another girl was disturbing Liz.

“I know, and it was different, Liz, and not in a good way.” he kissed her lips, letting her see the flash that he had. The flash gave me no feeling, every time that I have a flash with you, even if it's not about you, I feel. Now it was just like watching a video that I couldn't stop. It strange, Liz.

He needed to kiss her, to reassure her that he had no feeling whatsoever for Tess.

Their lips came together passionately, the kiss was a fierce one, full of lust and pent up frustration for the days that they had gone without fulfilling their needs for one another.

He was again in the desert, taking Tess hand in his. He opened his eyes and he was kissing her.

“No!” Max exclaimed a little loud and get away from Tess.

The world seemed to shift a little and it was Liz now in front of him.

It just happened again, didn't it?

Max took her in his arm and nodded, he took a deep breath, Liz scent was unique, it was the best scent in all the world for him.

I can't seem to control them, even if I don't want to see them. He was worried that Liz could be hurt by what he had seen. Have you saw it to?

No, when you were having it, I couldn't feel your thoughts anymore, I got scared, it never happened before. Only then Max saw that she was trembling a little. He kissed her on the head and let his feeling for her comfort her.

“I love you.” he whispered in her ear.

“I love you too. I need to go back to work.” she stroked his cheek and smiled at him.

“I know.” he let her go and then went to the little window on the door to the restaurant. Tess was talking with Isabel, like nothing happened, but Max knew that there was something strange with her.

I don't like the feeling when I have those flashes.

Nether I do. Liz answered him from the kitchen.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

“Michael, I'm worried.” they were in the bathroom after the disastrous chemistry hour.

“You should be.” Michael wasn't looking at him, but he could tell that they weren't talking about the same thing.

“It's not about Valenti. It's about Tess, Isabel's friend. I'm having these strange daydreams about her.”

“Daydreams?”

“Yeah, where we're together...you know, together.” Max was a little embarassed.

“I guess you're only human after all, huh?” he could see that he didn't really care about what he was telling him.

“It's me. I'm the problem. Something's happening to me.”

“Haven't you ever had a fantasy before?” he seemed annoyed by the discussion and Max knew that he was losing him. You aren't explaining yourself very well, Max. Tell him about the feelings, tell him about what you feel when you have those daydreams, and please, stop feeling guilty about them. I can feel that it's not something that you can control.

“This is different. It's out of my control. I can't stop it.” Michael seemed to want to say something but he stopped him. “It's not that I can't stop them because I'm too hormonal, it's really out of my control. It's like seeing a video on the computer without being able to turn or close the page. While I'm seeing those daydreams, I'm disgusted, saddened and even scared at time. I don't like Tess, not in that way. I love Liz and I wouldn't do something like that to her.”

Michael seemed to seriously think about what he was saying.

“You're afraid?”

“Yes.”

“Liz know about it?”

“Yes, she does, but the strange thing is that when I'm having one she can't get inside my mind. Even if our bond is open. She can always see what I see during the flashes, even the one that I don't have with her, since we... you know.” Max blushed on the last part and looked down, he was still very embarrassed about talking of that kind of thing with anyone but Liz.

“Then I believe you. Something strange is going on with her.” Michael get down from the sink.

“We need to talk to Iz, and maybe find out more on her.”

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

Jim Valenti had never believed his father when he talked about aliens, he had been ashamed of him for most of his childhood, but now very strange things where happening in his town. He saw the news. Ex-Agent, Kathleen Topolosky was found dead in her cell some days ago, the official report just got on the news. It was suicide. He couldn't believe that a woman like Topolosky was capable of taking her life so he had called Dr Margolin, to ask some question on the happenings but the good Doctor didn't seem to remember him or their meeting last week.

He looked down at the strange stone that he had found when he stopped Guerin and Amy's daughter from going to the meeting with the crazy woman.

Something wasn't right, and he needed to find out what.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

After the strange talk with Valenti, in which the Sheriff informed him that Topolosky was dead, Max felt a little guilty for not telling him that Topolosky was not only still alive, but leaving somewhere on the West coast, waiting for things to settle down a little before coming back.

The group had a meeting at the Crashdown to inform the other about the strangeness of Tess and was decided that they needed to know more on her, so he had sent Michael to get her file the next day at school, so they could find out where she lived, go there and try to see if they could find something strange on her.

Max and Michael almost got caught spying from the windows of the empty house by a group of soldier that seemed to came in to check the house. They were armed with M-16 and seemed very dangerous.

They went back to the Crashdown and talked about it with Liz, Isabel, Maria and Alex that where waiting for them.

Iz was in the middle of trying to dissuade them about Tess being with the Special Unit when Valenti came in.

He puts the orb down on the counter and looked at all of them.

“Before you can expect somebody to trust you, you've got to trust them first. Whenever you're ready, Max.” he turned around and left without another word.

They were a little surprised.

“You're just making new friends all over the place, aren't you, Max?” commented Michael before going back to the previous discussion. “We need to do something about Tess.”

“I'll check it out.” Isabel butted in. Max knew that she wanted to proof her friend innocence, she didn't understand that it could be dangerous, but she was even the most logical choice for the work so he reluctantly agreed to the plan.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

Liz knew that Max was near. It was raining so she opened the door of the Crashdown so Max could let himself in without waiting for her to open the door. She could feel that he was a little nervous for his sister mission, but he couldn't do much. It was decided that she would go alone and no one should follow her because if they worked for the Special Unit then someone could be watching.

She felt the bell and after some second his wet arms came around her waist. She hissed a little at the cold touch but then let herself be warmed by the feelings that being hugged by him set off in her.

“I needed to be with you, I was getting crazy at home, waiting for Izzy.” he kissed her on the head, letting his cold hand roam a little on her body. He looked around and saw that no one was there so he used his power to dry their clothes. She turned in his arms and got on her toes to kiss him.

I want you.

Liz could feel his raw needs to be inside her, within her mind, soul and body. She was starting to get aroused, her parents went out for a late movie and they could find time for them, but while she was going to the door to close it she saw Tess, outside in the storm, seeming to have car trouble.

“What she is doing here?” Liz felt that Max was sure that this couldn't be a coincidences. “She is following me?” he was outraged by the thought.

“She is trying to take you away from me, I don't know way, but that's her intention.” Liz took his hands and led him towards the back of the Crashdown. “I think that you need to kiss her, Max.”

“What?” he exclaimed horrified by the thought.

“Listen to me.” she put her hands on his face, making him looking at her in the eyes. “She is trying to steel you away from me. She is becoming a little reckless but I think that she doesn't know that whatever she is doing to you isn't really working, so we need to give her something, go out there. Talk to her and if she try to make you kiss her, let it happen.”

“But...”

“I will be in your mind, all the time, I'll know that you won't fell anything and you'll know that I love you, even if you kiss her for a second or two.” she kissed him on his lips with kindness. “I want to protect you, and until we know more on her, I think that you need to let her win a little.”

Max understood her way of thinking, that said she knew that he didn't like her plan. Not a bit. That was what reassured her about the whole things. Max hated the plan, not because he was afraid to feel something for Tess, but because he found disgusting cheating on her, even with her consents.

She smiled when he took a deep breath before going out, like he was going to the gallows.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

“You're doing something to me.” he accused her, letting show is distress at what was happening.

Max, remember our plans, please. Liz begged in his mind when he lost focus for a little while.

“Max, my car broke down. I'm waiting for somebody to help me. I didn't plan anything.” she said with big innocent eyes. Max didn't believe it for a second, but decided to follow the plan.

“I'm with Liz.” that seemed the magic word. Max could feel inside him the strange compulsion to kiss her. He tried to resist and find out that if he concentrated on his bond with Liz he could, that info made him happy, but he knew that he needed to kiss her. Liz feeling in his mind let him know that she was watching him and still loved him.

“I know you are.” she started to smile when she saw him getting nearer her.

“We belong together.” he wanted to let Tess know that even if he was doing what she wanted him to do he still loved Liz.

“I'm sure that's true.” she smiled at that and Max almost decided to stop the plan, but Liz remind him again that is for the best.

“I don't want anyone but her.” he saw a little hurt in her eyes before she answered him.

“I'm sure you don't.” she started to advancing on him, her lips where near his and he did what Liz told him to do. He let it happen. He closed his eyes and rejoiced when in his mind he saw Liz. He was kissing her. He could almost smell her.

I love you, Max. She whispered in his mind and he knew that it was true. She loved him and he loved her.

Suddenly he was somewhere else, there is some strange thing in front of him, a girl, then he was outside, there is a strange rock, a quarry, some stars where brighter than others.

The flashes stopped and he let Tess go. He needed to get away from her, but for the sake of their plan he couldn't go back to Liz. He ran toward Michael apartment, he let Liz saw what he saw in the flashes and she comforted him.

It was hard to watch you, but it was worth it. Tess saw me and I tried to put on a distraught face. I think it worked.

I need to brush my teeth. Was his answer, she giggled and he felt it inside him. Warmed by her he didn't even feel anymore the ice cold water.

Max, maybe you could use this as a way to find that damn camera. Max stopped suddenly.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

They were in Nasedo caves, Isabel had now finished the last changes in Topolosky aspect. While her face structure was the same her hair color and style was completely different. Her skin was darker, her eyes where almost black, giving her an Hispanic kind of vibe. She was looking at herself in the mirror.

“This is so strange.” she touched her now curled brown hair.

“But it was needed. Now you only need to stay low for a while. When things will get more normal you can come back here, stay with us, help us if you want. We could even change you back a little.” said Max with a shy smile. “You wanted to help us, what happened to you was only our fault.”

She shook her head and put an hand on his shoulder.

“I was reckless and scared. I had time to think while in the hospital, they are watching you, that's why they already knew where to find me.”

“How?” he was surprised that the Special Unit would go so far, breaking even the law to get them.

“Maybe a camera or a bug. Did you talk about the meeting anywhere?”

“No, we were very careful.” he said after thinking for a while.

“Then they bugged Michael apartment, it's the only explanation. You need to be careful and search it for the cam or you won't be safe there.”

Max nodded and looked a Michael that was talking with Maria at the ingress of the cave.

“I'll talk to him, we'll try to not be obvious while doing the search.”

“Well, I think that you need to go back home and I need to catch a bus.” she smiled and thanked all the young kids.

They escorted her at the bus station then on the way home Max told them about the cam.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

Call him, tell him to get ready to fake a brawl, this way we can trash the apartment without making the Special Unit suspicious about our intentions.

Good plan. She went to the phone and told Michael their plan, they already checked the phone so they knew that no one could her Liz side of the call.

When Max got to the apartment the boys started to fight about what happened with Valenti and outside the Crashdown. Michael could really act when he wanted. He was letting whoever was listening believe that he wasn't in the right frame of mind to listen to him.

After starting the physical part of the plan it was relatively easy to find the camera. The feds didn't really hide it well. It was velcro-ed on the top of the fridge.

One less problem to think about.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

“This is a great plan.” said Maria smiling at Michael and Max while Alex adjusted the last thing on his PC.

“Ok the box is here. I'm going to go check it out.” said Liz from the camera.

Max and the other looked a little worried at the scene in front of them. Mr. Harding was coming back and if Liz didn't stop snooping around then he would find out.

Liz, he...

It's full of photo here! She interrupted his thought. There is you at work, on the street, at the Crashdown. It's creepy!

“What are you doing?” it was to late.

“Oh, um, Mr. Harding!” she stood up too fast and lost her balance a little, knocking over the statue in which she had hidden the camera.

“What happened?” Michael was worried. The screen went black.

“The camera's dead.”

“Oh my God!” Maria looked at Max, worried for her friend.

Liz, how are you? What's happening. She didn't answer him, but he could still tell that even if she was a little worried and scared, she was okay. Liz opened her connection more, letting him see what was happening.

“She isn't answering me, but she is okay. He's asking her to stay for dinner.”

What can I do, Max? She asked him when Mr Harding insisted on it.

Stay, but if you need help don't hesitate to tell me. I'll be there in two minutes.

I love you Max.

I know, I love you too, Liz. She closed their connection a little bit so that he could still feel what she was feeling but she couldn't hear all his thoughts.

“She is okay, he asked her to stay to dinner. She'll try to make the camera work again later on.” he said to their friend smiling a little, trying to reassure them.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

Liz looked behind her at the broken statue, where the camera was hidden in between the pieces.

“Maybe I should go clean that up, huh?” said Mr. Harding cleaning his mouth and hand.

“Please, let me do that.” Liz stood up and followed him near the piano.

“It's ok.” he knelt in front of the broken pieces of the statue and started to swept them.

“No, really. I feel absolutely horrible about it. Um, could I... Could I pay for it?” Max, I need a distraction, like now! She tried to keep Mr. Harding away but it won't work.

“Don't worry. Homeowner's insurance.” he swept the camera in the bucket.

“No, please, let me...”

“I said no!”

The doorbell rang and Mr. Harding got up to answer it.

Thanks. Liz said to Max while she grabbed the camera.

“Hi.” said Max when Mr. Harding opened the door.

“Hello.”

“Max!” exclaimed Tess seeing him on her doorsteps.

“Max? Liz's Max?” asked Mr. Harding.

Liz had moved in front of the piano and now was trying to put the camera in a little vase full of glass balls.

“Dad!”

“How did you know Liz was here?” he looked at her and Liz shook her head. Lie.

“Actually, I came to see Tess.” covered Max, it was a good actor when it was necessary.

“But we have nothing to talk about.” she went near the door while Mr. Harding went near Liz

“But I think we do.”

“Look, whatever you think happened before was a mistake... that you made.” Liz almost rolled her eyes at her words, she wanted to put the fault all on him.

“I think we both made a mistake.”

“Ok, well whatever happened, it's over now, so let's just go.” she was a little nervous and wanted to go as far away as possible.

“Liz, I want you to go so that Tess and I can talk.”

What the hell are you doing? She said in his mind.

I don't know, trying to seem like I really wanted to talk to her? He said doubtful in her head.

“Max, Tess and I have already straightened everything out. I'm not leaving without you.”

“Well, I guess we should be going then.”

“But the night's not over.” Mr. Harding complained.

“Yes, it is.” Liz went to Max, Tess's father behind her.

“Aw, we're going to have to do this again sometime, Liz.”

They went out, climbed in the jeep and drove towards the warehouse where the others were waiting for them. Both of them didn't noticed the person in the car in front of the house, taking photos of them.

-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-

“We didn't exactly find out a lot. Only that she and his dad have lot of photos of you.” Maria said after Liz briefed them on what she had found. They couldn't sleep, still to hyped fro the whole evening.

“And surely that doesn't explain how the hell she can makes Max see things.” Michael said while pacing.

“Max, Michael, come look at this.” said Isabel, while she saw Tess tip the bucket with the pieces of the statue.

“What's going on?”

“I'm not sure.”

“What the hell...”

Liz couldn't believe at what she was seeing, Tess had put her hand over the pieces of the statue and they got back together like nothing happened.

“Oh, my God.”

Question answered:

Was Tess using her power during TL&V? (for me) Yes, Tess was actually using her power to get Max attention, to get him to kiss her. The difference between the series and my story is that here Max can resist.

Oh! Oh, the fools being played too... and they should NOT tell Tess that they know about her alieness... because they can foresee what she will do next, as she will let them believe that they know nothing!

But I am wondering anyway who is the other man, following them? Another protector?

Looking for more and thanks! EVE

Chapter 7. Four Square

It was beautiful, a kiss that tasted like magic. The sun came up, the star disappeared and he was still kissing her. She could fell all her skin tingling, it was the best sensation ever. He always gave her this sensations while she was kissing him, as if there was electricity just under her skin.
Something isn't right, I can feel someone watching.
She stopped the kiss, looking around her she found Michael, it was creepy, he was watching her like a hawk.
Where is Alex?
She looked down and saw the same symbol. Michael is calling her, then it's Alex, then Michael again.
Something isn't right.
“Isabel,”
“Isabel, wake up, she is moving around.” she was in the warehouse with Alex.
'It was only a dream...' she looked at the monitor, Tess was getting ready for school, she needed to start to work.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“So she didn't hurt you?” Maria was scared, you cold hear the fear in her voice.
“No she acted totally innocent, I'm telling you, she has no idea...”
“We can't trust anything that she said.” Max sighed, after what they had seen the other night in the warehouse he didn't know what to think.
“That's true, even if she is a fourth alien, we can't trust her, not after anything that she is trying to do to Max and Liz.”
“I won't believe in someone that is posing as a teenage girl and trying to seduce my brother.” Isabel was disgusted and angry at the same time.
“If he is Nasedo then he is a shapeshifter, who knows what other powers he has that we don't have.” Max looked at the others, Liz could feel fear in him but his expression didn't betray him. “The three of us, no matter what we may discover about ourselves, we were raised human, Nasedo is an alien, Nasedo killed, and judging from what we know about Tess she seem to have some power over us, and she isn‘t ashamed about using it to get what she want.”
“Yeah, I felt that too.” Isabel crossed her arms and leaned on Alex. “I had a dream, I thought it was only nerves, you know, but if she had known from the start that we are following her then maybe she send that dream to me.”
“What dream, Izzy?” Max asked going beside her.
“It was creepy, I was with Alex, then there was like an interference, like if someone changed something, and Michael was at his place, we where in the desert and there was some symbol on the earth under me and Michael was calling me, then it was Alex then I woke up.”
“I had the same dream.” Michael said when Isabel stopped telling about her dream. He was looking down, arms crossed, and what Liz could tell was shame written on his face.
“What?” Isabel turned so fast toward him that she almost broke her neck.
“I had the exact same dream, Alex, the symbols, the desert.”
“That's what I'm talking about. We can't trust her, not now, we need to learn more about her.”
“Max is right, we can't let her in.” Liz took his hand in her and looked at the other. “We need to stay together and believe in each other, don't believe in anything you see or hear while you are with her.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
He didn't know what to think anymore about that kids, why were they protecting Max if he was the monster that people like the hunter told him to be? Why were they spying on the Harding family?
He knew that the cam was theirs, he had seen them there the other night, but why? He wanted to trust them, but he also needed to know the truth. Giving them back the strange stone that he took the night that they were going to the viewpoint hadn't been enough it seemed.
He knew for sure that at least Liz, Maria and Michael were at the Crashdown and he was driving toward it. Maybe if he give them back the cam they'll trust him, or maybe not, but he was the sheriff, his job was to serve and protect the helpless and he knew that all of them but Max where only kids, maybe strange ones, but not less good. He never saw them hurt a fly, not in any one of his stakeout.
Why couldn't they trust him? Why couldn't they tell him the truth?
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
After the sheriff visit they were a little afraid of Tess and Mr. Harding. They found the cam, mind you, she hadn't had the time to conceal it so well the other night but anyway it could be dangerous.
They were still talking if they could trust Valenti when Max phone ringed.
“Hello... Izzy, please slow down, I can't understand... Tess? We'll be there in five minute.”
“Let’s go.” Liz had heard the conversation, Isabel was scared because of something Tess did, but she was hysteric and even Max hadn’t really understood what she was saying.
When they reached Max’s house they found Michael already there, Izzy must have called him after them.
She seemed a little bit better and explained about Tess words and the strange flash, then told Max that she openly admitted to have feelings for him.
Liz looked at the four little sugar cubes on the counter, she already saw something like that, but she couldn’t remember were.
Isabel asked Michael to stay there, she didn’t want to be alone and Max wanted to come back to my place, my parents were away for the night.
When we got in my room we attacked each other with passion, tearing our clothes away from each other body, we needed to connect again, we needed to be one again.

“Are you sure you both had the same dream: the rock formation, the map on the ground, everything?” Max asked to Izzy and Michael.
They were at school, they had come to him and Liz during lunch, saying that something strange happened to them. They even brought his drawing of the cave symbol, to show him the symbol they sow in the dream.
“Yeah…” Michael confirmed.
“Think, was there anything else, anything unusual? I mean… what were you guys doing out in the middle of the desert?”
“Nothing.” both answered at the same time.
“Nothing important,” Izzy specified, he didn’t really believe them, there was something more, but he let it go. “But I saw the symbol, the one that Tess did yesterday with the sugar cubes.”
“So it means something. If we only knew how to read this.” he said looking down at the drawing.
Izzy and Michael looked at each other guiltily.
“Tell him, Michael.”
“Tell me what?”
“I thought I figured it out once, but…” he stopped, the guilt in his expression became even more prominent.
“But what?”
“I was wrong.”
“What if you weren’t?” Izzy said to him. “He used the V constellation to navigate the symbol.”
“How did you know how to do that?” he asked stupefied.
“I just knew. But it didn’t work.”
“But what didn’t work?” Max was starting to suspect that there was more on the story that they were telling him.
“The night you were drunk,” Izzy interjected, making him blush a little at the memories that he now had of the night, thanks to Liz. “Michael and I went to the public library. That’s where the symbol was supposed to lead. We thought that if Nasedo left us the symbol at the cave, then we should sendo one back to him, it was before we started to think that he could really be dangerous Max.”
“Why didn’t tell me about this, Michael? He was starting to get angry and upset.
Calm down, Max. Liz told him from inside his mind, trying to soothe him with loving thoughts.
“You mean why didn’t I get your approval?” Michael said sarcastically.
Don’t. Liz stopped him before he could start a fight with him. You know him, Max, he thought that Nasedo could tell him who he was, don’t jump as his throat.
“Michael, that what’s probably brought him here, it wasn’t only your decision to made.” Max said trying to stay calm, to not start a fight. “I know that you want answers about us, but Nasedo could be dangerous. He could bring the Special Unit attention on us, or what if he isn’t okay with us telling Alex, Maria e Liz our secret?” Michael opened his mouth to answer at him, maybe start the fight that he didn’t want to start, but after some second he seemed to change his mind. “You didn’t think about that, didn’t you?” Michael looked down ashamed. “Think about it. If Tess is Nasedo then the things she did, the flashes, her kissing me, all that could have made Liz get away from me if it wasn’t for our bond.”
“He could be right…” Izzy whispered. “The dreams we had, maybe she gave them to us, it would explain the things that happened in it.” the bell rang.
“We should go.” Max took his backpack. “Michael, find out where the symbol points to, but don’t go there alone. It could be a trap, please.”
“Okay, I’m sorry, Maxwell, for keeping it a secret. I hadn’t thought about the danger I could put the other in.”
“It’s okay.” he smiled at his best friend. “See you later.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“I found it, Max,” Michael said to him the next day. “It’s Pohlman Ranch, where the crash happened.”
“How?”
“That’s the part you won’t like.” he sighed. “Tess came to my window, she draw again the symbol and said something about being already there and I had a flash.” he stopped Max from interrupting him. “I know, we shouldn’t trust flashes around her, but I controlled with the map and it seem right.”
“Thank you Michael, for telling me.” Max said to him. “I think we should try to find out if it’s a trap, so don’t do anything, at least until we told to the others too.” he nodded and opened the door to the CrashDown for him. Liz and Maria were already there, looking through Tess’s school file.
Liz went to talk to Kyle, to try to warn him about Tess but from where they were the conversation didn’t seem to go as Liz hoped it would.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
Max was awakened by a light knock on his door, he opened it, mind still half asleep.
“What do you want guys, some more weird dream?” he yawned and sat down on his bed.
“Please…” Izzy said looking to Michael.
“What’s up, Michael?” Max asked him
“We had another dream.” he sat down on the floor, letting Izzy take the place on the bed.
“What you dreamed that make you so stressed, Michael?”
“It’s about me and Isabel again. We didn‘t tell you everything about the last dream” he sighed. “We started to have those dreams in which we are together, like married together. We are happy, we kiss, we are a real couple,” he stopped and looked down, he seemed ashamed of something and even a little scared. “We have… you now…”
“Sex?” He was blunt, and made Michael and Izzy blush a little. He didn’t like it. Those dream were only confirming his thoughts about Tess/Nasedo wanting to get them away from their human other halfs.
His feeling must have got out of his control because he could feel Liz wake up. She was confused so he let her in to speed her up to date.
“Yeah, but is not all.” he passed his hand in the hair and took a big breath, his eyes full of fear and even a little disgust. “We dreamed about having a baby and now Izzy think she is pregnant.” he whispered shocking both him and Liz that was by then wide awake.
That I didn’t think about. Liz projected to Max after some seconds when she got over the shock.
Do you think is possible? He asked her a little afraid.
No, I don’t think so. We shared dreams about making love, if it was possible I should be pregnant too. She reminded him, letting him see some of their fantasies, just to have a little fun.
“I don’t think is possible, Michael,” he told out loud, he knew he was blushing, still thinking about their dreams. “But to be sure about it, I could use my power to try to search for another life in Izzy.” the relief on their face was immediate.
“Yes, Max, I’m going crazy. I can feel something inside me and with the dreams…”
“your first thought was that you were pregnant,” Max ended her phrase.
“Thanks, man.” Michael smiled up at him and relaxed back on the floor.
Max got near his sister and put an hand on her abdomen, he couldn’t feel anything.
“You are not pregnant.” he said to them, a little smile on his lips.
“Thank God.” Izzy hugged him and started to cry. “But then why can I still feel it, it’s creepy, like if there is something inside me that doesn’t belong.”
He saw Michael stand up, he went outside leaving them some privacy to talk.
Izzy still thinks that something is wrong with her, she says that she feel something inside. Max projected to her, asking for some advice.
Ask her to let you in, let you feel what she is feeling, maybe that could help find out what it’s happening to her.
That’s actually a very good idea. he said to her then felt their connection shut from her side. She wanted to give them privacy
“Izzy, can you let me in your mind? Let me feel what you are feeling?” He asked his sister, smiling sweetly at her. She still seemed scared about something. “I promise it will be only me. Liz closed the connection on her side, she won’t see it.” That seemed to do the trick, she nodded and looked him in the eyes, letting him form a connection with her.
Max could feel something primeval battling inside Izzy, something that asked to come out, it was strange, he tried to connect to it and it was like find a new piece of Isabel, it was still part of her but it was ancient, powerful and even a little scary. It was her alien side. He let his own alien side connect with that piece of Izzy, the effect was immediate, the connection soothed Izzy and she relaxed.
“What did you do?” Izzy asked him when he let her go. “I can’t feel it anymore.”
“I think I know what happened to you. I felt something similar too.” He smiled at her. “I think that what you were feeling was you alien side.”
“What?” She seemed scared.
“Those dreams that probably Tess gave you made your alien side come out, but it was a forced process, you weren’t ready to it, so you felt as if something was inside of you.”
“How did you make it go away?”
“I didn’t make it go away, I soothed that part of you to quietness.” Max let Izzy curl in his side and started to stroke her hair. “My alien side awakened the night I made love to Liz,” Max smiled remembering about that beautiful night. “I felt the need to be even more connected to her and suddenly there was something inside me that asked to be let out. It wasn’t like what you where feeling, it wasn’t scary, it made me feel whole like only being near Liz did before. Since then it never subsided, it’s like we become one, but I’m still me.” She turned to look him in the eyes.
“Why my alien side scared me?” She was so worried that Max could see the tears in her eyes.
“Because it wasn’t you that bring it out. It was Tess forced dreams that awakened it. You aren’t ready, you still are scared about being an alien, so you couldn’t let it in and you didn’t know how to soothe it.” He reassured her.
“Thank you, Max.”
“It was nothing,” he smiled and made her stand up. “It will come the day that you’ll need to let you alien side out, Izzy. You can’t play dumb forever,” he smiled again at her. “Oh, and before I forget about it, tell Michael that Liz and I saw something interesting today at the library, we will tell everything tomorrow but I don’t want him to think that I was keeping a secret from him.” he said before letting her go back to her own room.
So? Asked Liz when he started to probe her mind, letting her know that it was okay to open up again.
It was a Czechoslovakian problem. I’ll explain later if you want. Go back to bed. She opened again completely their connection, rejoicing being with him again.
He was asleep in second, wanting to go back to his shared dream with Liz, but he found himself somewhere else.
He was in the desert, Tess was with him, she took his hand.
He woke up and she was there, over him, in his bed.
“It’s time. You understand, don’t you?” she said to him.
“Tell me. Tell me what I’m feeling.” he tried to buy time, to wake up Liz, it was a good opportunity to find out Tess/Nasedo cards.
Max, what’s happening? Liz said upset at saying what Max was sending her.
“I’ll show you everything, and you’ll remember.”
I don’t know, wait for me and Tess to be out of the house then call Izzy, tell her about what’s happening and follow us.
Please be careful, Max. He sent her his love, letting her know that he would be okay, reassuring her of his real feeling.
Tess was driving him out into the desert, she had the strange book with her, it seemed to call to him.
“This is it. This I what Michael show in his flash.
“We’ve all seen it. We’ve all been here before.”
He was going down from the cliff, Izzy and Michael behind him
It was a true flash, he could almost still feel the sensation of the strange jello-like substance on him, he could feel their fear about the unknown.
“What do you mean “we”” he said getting in front of her.
“Hold me Max,” he then felt it again, the strange sensation, the want to be near her, to touch her that didn’t come from him. He was trying to manipulate him again. “You’ll remember.”
Let her, Max. We are almost there.
No, Liz, this stops now. he pushed Tess away, not caring about keeping up the fiction.
“I remember you are a killer… starting from 1959.”
“What?”
“William Atherton,” he made one step forward, getting in her space, trying to intimidate her. “The one who wrote the alien book?” Another step forward and she started to back away from him. “It was about you wasn’t it? He was your friend, but threatened to expose you, so you killed him, right?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Then who was next?” He exclaimed still advancing on her. “Everett Hubble’s wife? An innocent woman died just because she got in your way.”
“I’ve never killed anyone.” he didn’t listen to her.
“What about the other hand print pictures Valenti told us about?”
Max calm down, you are letting your fear get the better on you, she seems really scared. Liz tried to calm him, but he was to scared for her, for the others to listen.
“And how many other victims will there be after tonight? Alex?” he was almost screaming now. “Maria? Liz?”
“Nobody as to get hurt, Max”
“Sure, until you get what you want” he almost backed her to the cliff.
“It’s not just what I want, it’s what’s meant to be.” she let him see the book. “It’s all here, Max. Our destiny.”
What she is talking about? Max, don’t do anything stupid, we are almost there.
“No! I’m not like you.” he pushed away the book, making Tess/Nasedo let it go. “I live in this world, I may be different, but I want be part of anything as evil as you.”
“It’s that what you think I’m?” Max grabbed her from the jacket.
“Show me who you really are. Don’t hide behind this face.” Tess was almost crying but he didn’t let go.
“I’m not hiding, Max.”
“I said show me.” he pushed her away, making her fell down. “Shape-shift! Show me what you really look like,” he was on her, pushing her down. “What I really look like.”
“God, Max, that’s not who I am.” she was trying to get him to let her go. “That’s not who I am!” he let her turn. “Think, Max. You’ve seen my face before. You know who I am.”
He was breaking out of something, it wasn’t easy. When he got out he looked around, there were other two pod-like structure broken, just like the one he got out. Izzy and Michael were there, covered in the jello-like substance, like him. There was another pod, it was still intact. A girl, Tess, was inside it. Michael waved his hand on one wall and an handprint appeared. He put his hand on it and the wall moved. Light almost blinded them. Izzy stretched her hand towards him and he felt a pull, something inside him, that told him that he needed to protect her. He looked back at the last pod, he didn’t want to leave the girl behind, but he knew that his loyalty was to Izzy, even then sensing that they were family.
At the start he had felt that it was one of her flashes, he could see himself breaking the pod, but it didn’t have consistence, he couldn’t feel anything but then it changed and the flash had become real, he could even feel Liz again, he let her see too. They were parking, she was running to him.
“You know who I am now, don’t you. You understand our destiny.” he almost rolled his eyes at her word. He pushed her gently on the side an let Liz jump in his arms.
“I was so scared for you.” she whispered in his ear. He soothed her, trying to calm her down.
“What the hell did you do to him? To all of us?” Michael attacked her. Max let Liz go and stopped him.
“She is not Nasedo.” he looked him in the eyes, trying to let him understand that it wasn’t the time to talk.
“Then who she is, Max?” Izzy asked.
He went near Liz, while Maria went to Michael and Alex to Izzy.
“She is one of us.”

Questions answered in this Chapter:
- Tess is the one to give them the dreams?
Yes, she is. At least in my FF, but I’m almost sure she was doing that even in the TV series.
- Why Izzy believes she is pregnant?
She feels her alien side wake up, but it’s not a natural process so it fell well… alien to her XD. With the dreams she had and not knowing anything about her species reproduction she thought it was possible.
- Why it got suddenly morning in the show?
Tess was mind-wrapping him to have the vision. We already saw before his mamory about getting out of the pod, it was different so Tess needed to make him forget even about the differences between her mind wrap and the realty. I think that the aftermath of the powerful mind wrap made him lose time. This is why here didn’t happened. She could not really mind wrap him, not for long thanks to his bond with Liz so he come out of the vision and the mind wrap immediately.

In this chapter I changed almost everything, it became sooooo long that I decided to split it in two parts. This is the first part, I'll post the second one as soon as I can. Have fun!

Chapter 8a. Max to the max

“What do you mean she one of us?” Michael asked the question that everyone, but Liz, wanted to know about.
Max didn’t answer him, there wasn’t an easy way to explain it, but he thought that maybe seeing it from themselves would help. He started to walk up the rift, Liz beside him, and everyone behind. He knew where to go, where to wave his hand to make the silver handprint appear. He touched it, and the chamber opened.
The seven of them entered the chamber, there were cobweb everywhere, the place was illuminated by a light blue light, one whole wall was taken by four desiccate pods. Their pods.
“What is this place, Max?” Izzy asked him even if she probably already knew the answer.
“It’s where we were born.” Tess answered from behind us. He could detect joy in her voice, she couldn’t seem to understand that Isabel wasn’t ready to hear that.
“No. No. No! I don’t believe this.” She said after some seconds, confirming Max’s thoughts. She ran out of the room, Alex just seconds behind her.
Go, I’ll stay here with her and Michael. Liz told him.
You still don’t trust her. It wasn’t a question, he knew that it was true.
She can be one of yours, but since she came in our life she brought sadness and fights. Something inside me tells me to not trust her like I would trust you, or Isabel, or even Michael. She explained to him squeezing his hand before letting him go behind his sister.
While running behind her he could hear what Tess was telling Michael thanks to Liz. She wanted Michael to make him and Izzy trust her, but he trusted Liz more, if she had a strange gut feeling on Tess he would believe her. He will be cautious around her. Tess was giving Michael that metal book, the one she showed him before, she was still trying to put them ones against the others, telling him that he was keeping it a secret.
“Izzy, stop please.” Alex said to her when she got to the jeep.
“This is too much…” she was saying again and again. Max hugged her.
“We are here, Izzy, I know you are scared, but you are not alone.” he said looking her in the eyes.
“He is right, Isabel,” Alex got her attention, Max knew that probably he would be the one that could reach her better, he was what she would like to be, human, maybe seeing him accept her, even after the pod chamber, would help. “You’re not alone, you have Max, Michael, Maria, Liz… you have me. Nothing changed,” he took her hand in his. “So what? You were born in a big egg. What do I care about it? I already knew that you were different, you were special. I don’t care.” He hugged her and Max could see Isabel relax a little.
Michael, Liz and Maria joined them at the jeep, he had in his hands the book.
“You know about this all along?” He asked opening it.
“Liz and I saw Tess take it from the library. It’s what I wanted to tell you today, Michael, I wasn’t keeping it a secret.” He answered truthfully. Michael nodded to him, probably remembering about all the things that happened the night before that stopped him to talk about Tess.
“It’s some kind of strange language.” Izzy said while looking through it, Alex at her back, looking over her shoulder.
“Oh my God!” Both of them said at the same time, we all got around them, wanting to see what had them so spooked up.
“This is me!” Isabel said letting them see the page she was looking at.
“It’s all of us.” Michael whispered seeing the other three faces.
“How did they know what we would look like?” Izzy was scared again.
“Because we were designed.” Michael whispered. I was going to say that it wasn’t possible but Liz stopped me.
“It can be, Max. I looked at those things, the pods, to me looked like some kind of high-tech incubators,” she took his hand. “Your genetics are alien but your body it’s almost completely human. They surely weren’t made in the old fashioned, you have no real mom that carried you for nine months,” while she was explaining, he could see her line of thought and he understood.
“Clones…” Max whispered, interrupting Liz.
“Precisely. It would explain why they knew what you would look like. They took some DNA from other humans and used it to create your body somehow. So maybe designed is a strong word, but Michael is right,” Isabel didn’t seem to like the new piece of information, Liz saw it. “That said it doesn’t mean that you aren’t who you are. You’re still Max, Michael and Isabel, only around the time of the crash there where three… well four people that looked just like you.” that seemed to work because Izzy relaxed again in Alex’s arms.
“We need to learn more about this book,” Michael took back the metal book from Isabel’s hands. “We should ask Tess.”
“We can’t trust her.” Both Max and Liz said.
“I still think that that it’s a little creepy.” Maria took out her vial of cedar’s oil.
“She may be the only one who can help us.” Michael insisted.
“So you would trust someone that manipulated yours and Isabel’s dreams?” he reminded them, shaking his head. “Tess can be one of us, but we don’t know her, Michael. Since she came in our life she tried to manipulate me into kissing her, she gave us fake flashes, and she put dreams in our head that did more arms than good. So if you want to trust her, her judgments more than mine, or anyone in this group, then go, ask her your questions, believe in whatever she tells you, but remember that we love you, we are your friend and family. She can be like us, but she is a stranger.”
“I’m sorry, Maxwell, you are right.” Michael sighed. “It’s only that all my life I wanted to know, and now she is here, she could have answers, but you are right. Her behavior… what she did to me and Izzy, are not reasons that make me trust her.”
“Sorry to interrupt, but I think I missed something.” Alex said raising his hand like he was into school.
“Me too.” Maria said looking Michael.
“I thought I was pregnant.” Isabel blurted out in a whisper after some seconds of silence.
“Isabel!” Michael hissed blushing a little.
“What?” Both Maria and Alex said.
“Long story short,” Michael sighed, knowing that he needed to tell the truth. “Tess give us, me and Isabel, some dreams in which we were… together… you know… and in the dreams we had a baby, so when Izzy started to feel a little different she thought she was pregnant, but Max reassured us that it wasn’t true, thanks to God.” he said trembling a little at the end.
“Whoa… and you wanted to go to her for answers, Spaceboy?” Maria rolled her eyes. “Maybe you should let Max take a look at your brain.” she smirked, making everyone snicker a little, and bumped her hip on his.
“She is coming.” Isabel interrupted them seeing as Tess was walking down the cliff.
“We should go back home.” Alex said when she got near enough. “Tomorrow we have school.”
“He is right, it’s been a long night, we need to sleep.” Max took Liz hand in his.
“But we need to talk…” Tess tried to stop them.
“Maybe, but not right now. It’s late, and Alex is right, we have school. The Sheriff is already suspicious of us, we know that someone is watching us, we need to act normal.” Max tossed his Jeep’s keys to Isabel. “Take my car, go home, I’ll go with Maria and Liz,” he looked at her, letting her know that he wouldn’t be back for a while. “Tess, I think your house is on our route.” he wouldn’t leave Tess alone with Michael and Isabel, they seemed to easily fall for her illusions.
“Thank you, Max.” She said smiling at him.
Max felt something push inside his brain, a compulsion asking him of letting go of Liz hand.
She is doing something. He said to Liz, having care of hiding their conversation from Tess presence in his mind.
I can feel that too, she is trying to get me to take the front seat.
Let her do that, let her believe that she has power over us.
Liz let go of his hand and did just that, letting Max and Tess take the rear.
The drive to Roswell was filled with only the music coming from the stereo of Maria’s Jetta.
Tess tried to get nearer to Max, but he put his distance, not wanting to be too near to her. In his mind he could feel Liz dislike for the girl, it was primeval, almost imprinted in her soul. She didn’t seem to hate the girl, but surely she wanted her away from him, and still, she let her get what she wanted, to protect him, to maintain the illusion that he couldn’t stop Tess from manipulating him. She was the most selfless person in the world, and he loved her so much that it almost hurt him.
I’m the luckiest man, on earth, because I got you. I love you, Liz. He said sweetly, sending her his love and his admiration for what she was doing.
I love you too, Max, we are both lucky. She let him understand that the night wasn’t over for them.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“Okay, why the super secret meeting before school?” Maria asked when they got to the quarry. Liz smiled at her best friend, she was yawning since the moment she got inside her room and woke her up. They had maybe three hour of sleep on them.
“I thought about what happened some hours ago, Michael is partially right, we need more answer, we need to now more about ourselves, that said we can’t trust Tess, you more then me and Liz.” he started looking seriously at the others.
“We don’t know if Tess is a friend or a foe, but we know that she is trying to get her and Max together, Michael and Isabel too.” Liz went on taking Max hand in hers.
“She is trying to get us away from the human parts of the group, and we can’t let her do that.” Max smiled at Maria and Alex. “You three are always on our side, so I decided to always be on yours. If Tess in the future will try to make me choose, I’ll choose you.” Liz could see some tears on Maria face, Max could be so sweet.
“Me too.” Isabel added with a shy smile. Michael made a strange sound, something similar at a cough, but then got nearer Maria, taking her hand in his, to let them know that he was on their side.
“That said we should take some… precautions.” Liz opened her backpack and passed a diary to every one of them but Max. “We need to be sure that Tess isn’t influencing us. Max and I seem to know when she is trying to do it, but you don’t, so, for the safety of everyone, you all should start keep a diary, wrote down what you feel, important things that happened, flashes that you have, so if we ever have the doubt that Tess is manipulating someone, we can find out.”
“Liz and I already have one, we’ll do the same thing because you can never know.” Max said when Michael seemed to want to protest.
“It’s this all?” Alex asked, putting his diary in his backpack.
“Yes and no. Alex, you think that maybe you could decode the metal book?” Max asked giving him some photocopies.
“I dunno, Max,” he said looking again at it. “It seem written with a language very similar to the hieroglyphic of the ancient Egypt, you know, where every symbol means a word. I’ll try.” He smiled at Max and put the photocopies away.
“Then this is all, I’ll talk with Tess today, then tomorrow we’ll talk about what she’ll tell me.” everyone nodded. “Okay, see you all at school.”
“Maybe I’ll skip, I’m tired.” Michael mumbled yawning.
“Oh, no way, Spaceboy!” Maria stopped him. “If I have to go, You’ll go too.”
“What?” He exclaimed. “No way…” she whispered something in his ear. Michael eyes widened and he took her hand, practically running toward the Jetta. “See ya at school.” he said waving at the others.
Liz rolled her eyes, it seemed that the eraser room would be occupied all day long.
What a shame. Max projected her, a little smirk on his face.
We need to find another place. She snickered and jumped in the jeep.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“Why we are out in the desert?” Tess asked him after the little travel on the jeep.
“We know for sure that the Special Unit is trying to find us, this is for safety.” Max explained stopping his car and jumping down.
“I know it must have been a surprise finding out about me.” they started to walk around, without no real destination.
“We knew there was someone out there, but we thought it was Nasedo. So you do know him then.” Max asked the first important question.
“He was there when I came out of the pod, and he’s taken care of me ever since.”
Never been happier that your pods hatched before. Liz commented in his head.
“So he’s our father?” Max asked wanting to know if Liz’s theory was right.
“Not really, Max.” she said smiling.
“Then who is he?”
“I don’t even know. I’ve been with him for ten years but everywhere we go, he changes into somebody different.”
“He doesn’t really have an human side, does he?” Max asked feeling a little pity for her. Growing up with someone that didn’t know what love is, it must be hard.
“No, he doesn’t. It’s been a little lonely.” she admitted, smiling sadly at him.
Ask her about the book. Liz reminded him. He could feel that she was a little upset by the fact that he felt a little drawn to Tess.
Liz… He tried to explain but she didn’t let him.
Ask her. I know, Max, I only hate that you are alone with her. Go on. She tried to reassure him.
“The pictures in the book, the four of us, what do they mean?”
“You know what they mean, you feel it.” she said smiling at him again, looking him in the eyes.
“I know I’m drawn to you, but I don’t feel anything for you, I don’t know you.” he said clearly to her. Tess expression changed for a fraction of a second, but before he could try to understand the changes, she was smiling again, even if the smile was forced.
“But you do know me, Max. We are the same. You knew me before you met me.” she tried to took his hand but he didn’t let her. He was starting to feel again the pressure in his mind, she was trying something, but he didn’t want to indulge her.
“We should go, I have homework to do and Izzy needed me for a project.” He easily lied.
“Okay.” Tess seemed sad about it, but the pressure disappeared.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
Liz was letting her connection with Max lessen a little, so not to distract him while he drove back. She knew that even if he was drawn to Tess, he loved her. Her jealousy was a instinctual reaction, she didn’t seem able to stop it.
She was in the back, starting to get ready for her shift, when Max entered the room.
She opened her link, Max was on the road, just getting inside Roswell, this wasn’t him.
Max, I think I found Nasedo. She projected him, while smiling at Max/Nasedo.
“Liz, let’s go.” He seemed a little antsy.
“Max, what’s going on?” she asked him, faking confusion.
“I’ll tell you later,” he said looking around him. “I’ll tell you everything. But we’ve got to go, now.”
Liz, don’t go with him, please. She could feel his fear for her, he wouldn’t be here in time to stop Nasedo from doing something if he wanted.
You can’t come here, people saw you, Max.
“I’m just about to start my shift.” She tried to get a little time, to work on a plan.
“This is important.”
“Ok. Well, I guess… I guess I could leave for just a little while, let me just go tell Maria.”
I’ll go with him, I want to find out what he want, you’ll follow us. She said to him, already knowing that he wouldn’t like her plan.
“No, don’t. I’m tired of reporting to everybody.” he stopped her from going outside. “It’s always been the six of us no matter what we do. This time I want it to be just me and you.” if she hadn’t know before that this wasn’t Max she would have find out with those words. So not like her Max to forget about all the times they had been alone in the past weeks. “We need this, Liz”
She let herself blush at the memories of her and Max together, just to let Nasedo believe that he got to her.
“’K.” she whispered to him, a little playful smile on her face.
They practically ran out of the Crash Down.
Max, remember to play dumb, even to Maria, if Tess follow you.
Liz please… Max tried a last time to stop her, but she didn’t let him.
“What’s up with the jeep?” She asked seeing the different car. She knew that nothing happened to the jeep, but not asking would be strange.
“Transmission needs some work, so they gave me this rental.” He lied like a pro.
“Where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise.” He smiled at her and drove into the traffic.

Chapter 8b. Max to the Max
Max whole face ached. Keeping the light expression that he had while knowing that Liz could be in danger was the hardest thing he ever did. He almost cried when they arrived near the Crash Down.
“I’ve lot to think about.” He said dismissively to her while looking around. Liz was still near, but was getting farther away from him.
“Take your time, I’m here for you.” She reassured him while getting down from the jeep.
Remember to talk with Michael and the other, you can’t come alone, Max. She told him when he was about to turn around and follow Nasedo.
Max found a place and parked the car. He went inside the Crash Down and walked fastly toward the others. Luckily they were all there.
“Max, where is Liz?” Maria asked when she saw him alone.
“That’s our problem, Nasedo has her, he come here no more then ten minutes ago and posed as me. Liz didn’t let him see that she know and now…”
“Tess…” Michael whispered, Max turned and saw the blond girl. She must have followed him inside when she saw that he parked.
“Follow the lead…” he whispered before she could be near enough. “What do you mean she went out with me?” Max asked loud enough so that Tess could hear too.
“Y-yeah, like ten minutes ago.” Maria got herself together and started to act.
“I didn’t see her since this morning at school.” He didn’t need to act, he was really worried, even if Liz was giving him soothing feeling from her side of the connection, reassuring him that she was fine.
“What’s happening?” Tess asked with a smile.
“Nasedo kidnapped Liz while posing as me.” Max said angrily at her. “Did you know about it?”
“What? No!” She seemed really confused, but with Tess you could never tell. “I swear, Max, I didn’t know!”
“Try to call him, ask him to bring her back,” he said to her. “There is a phone on the back.”
She nodded and disappeared.
“What do we do? Can you follow her with your freaky connection.” Alex asked when Tess was far enough away.
“It doesn’t work like that, but she telling me the streets they take.”
“But still we can't do much if we don’t shake Tess, we can't simply go after her, not without Blondie suspecting something.” Isabel was getting more and more worried by the second.
“She is coming back.” Maria hissed to the others.
“He’s not answering, what can we do?” Tess asked the others, sitting herself in the stool nearby Max.
“We’ve got to go to Valenti.”
“And tell him what? There is two Maxes. The good one’s right here, but please help us catch his evil twin.” Michael was so sarcastic that Max was sure he wasn’t even faking it anymore.
“No, we won’t tell him the truth, I don’t care what we tell him, but he has the resources to find Nasedo and Liz. He can put an MPB, he can contact other towns.”
“We can’t tell him, Max. We can’t let him know.” Michael protested, hoping that Max had a real plan.
“Wait, wait, maybe we don’t.“ Maria caught the attention of everyone. “Ok, look, as far as Valenti knows, there is only one Max. That’s you. So as far as he knows, you’ve taken Liz.” Max could kiss Maria, it was a good idea, and if he could persuade Tess into going with her to the Sheriff, maybe he could go behind Liz without her knowing anything.
“Tess, go with them,” Max looked at the blond girl, hoping that she would go. “Michael and Izzy will wait for Valenti to move. I‘ll start to go in the direction that take us to the pods chamber, maybe he took her there.”
“I don’t think is a smart plan,” Tess shook her head. “We should stay together, and I don’t really know Liz, it’s better if only Alex and Maria go to the Sheriff.”
Max, I’m not in danger for now, he won’t tell me where we are going, but he don’t seem interested in hurting me. If that was his plane he would have done it. We are in the desert, no one would have seen. Go with that plan. He could see Nasedo through her, he looked just like him, it was creepy.
“Okay, come on, we need to move.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“Where are we going?” Liz asked after an hour. He smiled at her but didn’t answer. “Please, Max, I’m curios.” She tried to appear as normal as she could.
“I told you, it’s a surprise.” He looked around and started to slow down, stopping the car on the edge of the road. She looked while he went on the back and opened the trunk, taking something out of it. He was smirking, a smirk that screamed to her the truth. Max’s smirk it was cheeky but sweet, Nasedo’s was scary. Her phone rang, she was going to answer, but Nasedo took the phone after duping his baggage on the side of the road.
“I don’t think, I can let you answer that.” Nasedo put the phone in his jacket and when he moved Liz saw a man, on his breast there was a sparkling silver handprint. He was dead.
“Now you know.” He simply said while getting inside the car again before driving of.
She couldn’t seem able to talk for a while, she could feel Max fear for her, Michael was probably restraining him to keep him from following her, the hell with Tess.
Nasedo took out Liz phone, and started a call.
“Hello, FBI? Agent Pierce please,” Liz listened what he was saying, hoping to gain some information about what he wanted to do. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I know there’s no Agent Pierce. Just let him know that I left him a little clue on Highway 380 to Hondo. Near mile marker 67.” He closed the call and Liz decided that it was the time to ask the most important question.
“Are you going to kill me, too?”
“Not as long as I still need you.” He answered easily, smiling at her like they were talking about the weather. The news that he needed her still soothed a little Max.
We’ll go on with the plan, Max. She practically ordered him.
“Do you have to be Max?” Now that all was in the open she hoped that he would change, seeing him as Max was creeping her a little.
“Oh, I like it. Being him, being 17.” He looked down at himself, as if being someone so young was a bliss. “I have been a lot of different people you don’t even know about. But right now, Max Evans is my most important role.”
“Why?” He was spilling, it was the cliché of all cliché, but she was happy to be able to pass to Max some more information.
“Because I’m the bait.” He seemed almost annoyed that Liz couldn’t guess from herself his brillant plane. “Pierce is looking for Max, and I’m going to draw him to me.” He was looking at her, not even paying attention to the road, Liz knew that if they had an accident he could come out of it without a stitch, but for her it was a lot more dangerous.
“So why do you even need me?” She was relived when he went back to look at the road.
“You’re my collateral, my hostage.” He smiled, seeming happy about all of it.
“What kind of hostage am I? Pierce would just kill me.” She was sure of that. Pierce wanted the aliens, he wouldn’t care about a puny human being.
“Oh, there’s a thought. Actually, he wouldn’t.” He was again looking at her, that awful smile on Max face. “See he knows what Max did to you at the Crash Down that day. He wants you alive. You see, he needs answers. You could come in extremely handy in terms of survival, and even if you don’t, you’ve been fantastic company.” She really wanted to gag.
Liz we need to get you out. If he is right and Pierce wants answers, he would do anything to get them. Max said after having listened on their conversations. I should come, Valenti has still no clue on where you are.
“Time to leave another clue.” Nasedo said and, for a second, Liz thought that he read her mind.
He stopped at a gas station, the little bell rang when they got in. Nasedo got off the car. The thought of escaping or even asking for help never entered Liz mind. She knew what would happen if she tried to do something like that.
She looked at him, trying to appear more relaxed that she really was. Nasedo put his right hand on one of the pumps, leaving behind a sparkling silver handprint. He then moved toward another pump, he put his hand on that one too. She thought that he would do the same thing, but then the pump started to smoke. He got back in the car, smiling at her. They stopped before getting back on the main road and looked back while the pump exploded, luckily without arming innocents.
They were back on the road, night had fallen when Max told her that the Sheriff seemed to be on the move. Alex and Maria stayed behind, while the other, after a little interruption caused by Deputy Fisher, started to follow the Sheriff.
Finally help was coming.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“This is where the light was coming from. We’ve got to split up and look for Valenti; he’ll lead us to Liz.” Michael and Izzy understood that what he really was saying was that they needed to take Tess so he could easily find Liz.
Finally he lost Tess and the others, he ran without doubts towards the mirror maze and was stupefied to find Sheriff Valenti already there.
Liz, where are you? This mirrors are making it impossible to find you.
I don’t know Max, I can see you, or maybe it’s Nasedo, I don’t know. I saw Valenti too.
Max was disappointed when he first found Nasedo.
“What are you doing? Get out of here.” In person, seeing himself was even creepier.
“Where is Liz?”
“Pierce doesn’t care about her; he only wants me.” Nasedo lied not knowing that, thanks to Liz, he already knew that Pierce would want even her.
“He wants her too. He wants all of us. I’m not leaving without her.”
“I won’t let him take you.” To him it almost seemed a threat.
“Max!” Liz screamed seeing him.
“Liz!” he went around Nasedo and literally ran in a glass. He started to push it, trying to break it, but it didn’t work.
“Get out of here.” he said to her, putting his hand on the glass. She mirrored the stance.
“Not without you.” She whispered, he could hear her anyway, the connection wide open and strong. “Max behind you.” He registered her fear before of her words. He turned around, there were two agents of the FBI. They seemed ready to take out the guns when a mask behind them moved, scaring them a little and giving Max some time to escape.
Max could feel from Liz that Nasedo get to her, trying to bring her out but she recognized him and prayed him to take Max first. She said that she would get out alone, he nodded and left her without protection.
Liz you should have gone with him! He reprimand her.
I’m not going without you, Max. She repeated.
He didn’t have time to move and Valenti saw him
“Max?”
“Right behind you Sheriff.” Max saw the Deputy that stopped them from following Valenti.
All gun where pointed towards Max, Valenti shot at the mirrors and that gave him time to escape.
Max was trying to find his way out, when he felt that Liz found the Sheriff and he was happy about it, she was protected at least.
Max turned another angle and found his way blocked by a glass, in front of him Valenti and Liz.
He wanted to say something but two men grabbed him from behind. He could feel Liz getting scared and angry, she ran toward the mirror and put her hand on it, getting the attention of the FBI agents.
“Stop, please!” she was screaming, the lights around them started to flicker, and then the mirror where he was pressed against seemed to break. He fell forward, the agents right behind him. He felt Liz getting tired and falling down too. He tried to get to her, but the agents were already trying to restrain him. “Max.” she was trying to scream but she was so tired. The glass around them exploded, one of them hit him in the head and he felt everything fade away.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
Liz couldn’t seem to let her eyes stay open, but she tried. She felt dizzy, her head was heavy, and she couldn’t get up. She looked around, pieces of the mirrors and glasses where everywhere, the two agents where momentary down, the Sheriff was down too. Max was on the floor, passed out, the orb had got out from his jacket and fell near one of the agents, and behind him there was another Liz, it was Nasedo.
“Help him.” She said before everything fade away.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
The first thing he saw when he woke up was Liz face.
“Liz…” he whispered.
“What you did… it was very stupid.” She said to him a scowl on her face. Max couldn’t understand. He looked around, he was in a school bus. He could see that they still were at the fair. His head was killing him, but he opened anyway his connection with Liz.
“You are not Liz.” He said when he found out that Liz was passed out.
“No, I’m not.” Max got up, ignoring the dizziness and started to get away from Nasedo.
“We need to find her.”
“No, I ‘ll get her back.” He told him before starting to change in front of his eyes.
He looked as a clown when he exited the bus. Max tried to follow him but his head was literally killing him, he healed himself, and when he got down Nasedo had disappeared.
He was running around the fair, trying to find him or Liz when he started to feel that she was moving, getting farter away from him.
“No. No. No!” he punched a stand, almost breaking his hand. The Special Unit got her.
“Max?” A voice come from behind him, he recognized his sister even without turning.
“They have Liz,” He felt tears start to run down his cheeks. His sister hugged him, Tess tried too, but Michael stopped her. “They have Liz.”

From what happened in the last chapter you can understand that here the things will change a lot. It’s Lizzy in the White Room, not Max.
I divided this chapter too, because it was even longer!

Chapter 9a. White Room
She was going into shock.
She had waken up in a white room. It was maybe the size of her room at home, but this one had nothing in it. It was only a big empty space. She stood and went around, touching the walls of the room, pounding on them, screaming to be let free, but no one answered her.
After some time searching the room she noticed something that should have been more obvious to her. Her connection with Max was very weak, as if they were very far away from each other, but she was sure that was impossible, she couldn‘t have been out so long. She tried to open it, but she couldn’t. Something was blocking her, and that was the second when she went into panic. For the first time in weeks, she was alone.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“They wants to know when you’d like to start the tests.”
“Tomorrow morning,” he said looking at what seemed a young girl. He looked down at the hat in his hands and, with a little smile, throw it to his subordinate. “Let her gets some sleep.” He turned, looking again at the girl, she stopped going around and curled in an angle, she was crying, but he knew that it was all fake, that wasn’t Liz Parker, that was the alien, the shape shifter, he won’t let him deceive him again.
“Yes Sir, Agent Pierce.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
When she woke up again she was stupefied and a little scared that they changed her clothes. She was in a white gown, she could feel that they let her keep her undergarment a last, but knowing that someone undressed her while she slept made her feel ashamed, and violated.
“Good morning Liz.” A voice come from some speakers in the white room, frightening her even more.
“Where am I?” She tried to get more information, if she could find out where she was, she could tell Max when the connection would start to work again. She had already tried, and while it was a little stronger that the night before, she still couldn’t open it, nor talk with him. She was relived in finding out that it was, she felt him at least, she felt his fear and his worry, she tried to sent some soothing feeling toward him, but didn’t help.
“Some place where no one can find you.” She could feel the excitement in the voice, she already hated him.
“Why am I here?” She couldn’t understand that. Yeah, she knew Max’s secrets, yes, Max healed her, but they couldn’t prove it, she was only an human girl, a minor at it. “Why you kidnapped me? I’m a minor! It’s a crime! You made a mistake.”
“I don’t think so. I know what you are, and now you’re gonna tell me everything.” There was a threat there, Liz could hear it behind the smooth tones of the voice.
“I’m Liz Parker, I live over the Crash Down Cafè, in Roswell, you can call my parents.” She tried again.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” Liz tremble a little, she had read about what the government did to people that could be threat to the safety of the States. The voice was promising her just that, and she knew it. She could feel her fear making Max’s fear get more and more prominent so she tried to put a restrain on her side of the link. She wanted to hear him, to be there the exact second in which the link would be strong enough for them to communicate, but she won’t distract him from trying to get her back with her feelings. “What is the name of your home planet?”
“Earth,” she breathed out. “I’m born here in Roswell. You can check it at the hospital.”
“All right, hard way.”
Some men entered the room, they were wearing some white safety suits. They grabbed her and she tried to fight them off, but they were stronger. They restrained her on a chair, like the one you could find in a dentist’s studio. All the while she screamed that she was Liz Parker, asking why they were doing that to her. She saw pity in the eyes of one of the men, but he still didn’t stopped and closed the bond on her right wrist.
She felt a little pinprick on the inside of her elbow. They were taking some of her blood. She still tried to get away from the men, to stop them, but it wasn’t possible.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
He had tried to reach Liz with their bond, but something blocked him. They didn‘t know where she was, they had not other choice but go back to Roswell. All the others got a little sleep, but he couldn’t. Liz was somewhere alone and afraid. Sleep was the last thing in his mind.
Anyway he must have dozed of a little after trying again to reach her. He looked up at the clock, barely twenty minutes has passed. He looked around, no one was anymore on the front of the café.
“Guys!” he called them.
“Max, what it is?” Maria was the first to come to him, followed by everyone else.
“Where is Tess?”
“She went back home just some minutes ago. She was going to try to track down Nasedo.” Izzy explained to him.
“She will help us?” From her talks of the night before he couldn’t believe that. She was all for leaving Liz be, she said that Liz was human and would be released when they would find out that she’s not Nasedo. Max and the others weren’t so sure about that.
“She still believe that is a waste of time, but when I let her understand that we won’t leave Liz behind, she idly offered her help.” Michael could barely restrain his disgust at Tess coldness. “I was going to wake you up, to ask you about the connection just now.”
“I can feel her better now, I can’t seem to be able to talk to her, something is still blocking me, but I can feel her again, she is awake and a little scared.” Probably everyone could tell that he was affected by Liz’s emotions. He was scared too, for her.
“At last we know that she’s not dead.” Izzy tried to reassure me, and maybe she would have succeeded if in that moment Liz’s fear hadn’t skyrocketed, invading his mind like venom. He started to panic, whatever was happening to her wasn’t good.
“Something isn’t right…” he whispered looking at his friends. “She is scared shitless.” He swore, really scaring all the others. He never swore. In that second Liz’s side of the connection closed almost completely, he couldn’t feel anything anymore but what she wanted him to feel. “She closed her side of the link.”
“That’s not good.” Maria whispered. “I know her, when something bad happens, she try to cover her hurt for the sake of others.” Max knew that and, even if unwillingly, could understood Liz thought process. Distracting Max with her fear was counter-productive, so she shut down her side of the link enough to not let him feel her emotions while keeping it open enough to feel when and if the bond would get strong enough to talk with him.
“We need a plan,” Max started to pace like a caged animal. “We need to rescue her.”
Tess entered the Crash Down, looking around to all of them.
“I couldn’t find him, he never left me alone like this before.”
“Then it’s up to us.” Izzy said looking around. “We have to find Liz.” She took his hand and squeezed it, maybe trying to soothe him a little.
“Maybe we should go to Valenti.” Alex proposed.
“And what? Tell him everything?” Tess asked as if it was impossible to understand why they should do it.
“He know Liz since she was a little baby, even if we don’t tell him everything, I’m sure he will help.” Maria said looking at them all but Tess.
“What make you think that Valenti is better equipped that we are?” Tess shook her head looking at them like they were stupid. Max could feel again the sensation in his mind, it was stronger than ever before, Tess was trying to make him forget about the idea to go to Valenti. He couldn’t let her win.
“Maybe she is right, we do have powers.” everyone looked at him like he was crazy for being on Tess side. He hoped they will understand why he was doing it. If Tess played with their mind she could erase their desire to help rescue Liz, he needed them, so he needed to let Tess have something. He looked at Michael in the eyes, trying to let him see that they needed for Tess to believe it.
“What can you do?” she asked us.
“We are not too advanced.” Michael downplayed it. Yes, they didn’t know a lot about their power, Michael had even problems in controlling them, but what they didn’t have in strength they had in cunning. They had been able to change the exterior and interior aspect of a corpse just some weeks prior.
“We can do easy thing,” Izzy got it too. “Like change simple molecular structure, but we don’t use them very often. What about you?”
“Being around Nasedo taught me quite a few things.” Max didn’t doubt Tess’s statement, she sure know how to mess with minds.
“Wait, what about that dream thing that you can do?” Alex asked Isabel. Max wanted to kiss him and strangle him at the same time. Here they were trying to downplay their powers, and he went blabbing about Izzy’s dream walking, but it was the lesser evil in the end. Even if he did found out from his bond with Liz where she was kept, he couldn’t really tell Tess how he knew where to find her.
“What dreaming thing?” Tess looked oddly at Izzy.
“Sometimes I can go into people heads when they’re sleeping.”
“And you all can do that?”
“No, just Isabel.”
“It could be a good plan, we should try, Izzy.” Max looked her in the eyes. Maybe with a little help from him, Izzy, could get into Liz’s mind, even if she was awake.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
They had left her alone for roughly an hour.
One of the white man come back inside, she didn’t give him the satisfaction of being scared of him. He moved the chair, so she was now in a almost seated position. He took of his glasses and then the cap of his safety suit.
“You and I don’t need procedure, now do we, Liz?” He was smiling happily, like if they were in a bar, drinking coffee. He got out from the rest of the suit, the smile still on his face. She had already seen him, it was the new deputy under Valenti‘s orders.
“You are the deputy?”
“You have your tricks, I have mine.” He had the courage of smirking at her, like it was a joke for him.
“Who do you think I am?”
“This is what we’ve been trying to find out at the lab.” He took out what looked a lot like a X-ray from a file. “You know, there is something strange with your X-rays…” she couldn’t understand what he was talking about, the last time she had them, they were completely normal. “Something that doesn’t make sense.” He turned around and put the X-ray on a whiter block of the room, he knocked on it, switching on a light. “They are completely human!” He said as if it was the most incredible thing in the whole world. “Your bone structure, your organs, circulatory and pulmonary systems. Everything human.” he said the last bit slowly, like she was stupid and couldn’t understand.
“Maybe because that’s what I am?” She interrupted him. He made a stopping motion and started to smile.
“You didn’t let me finish.” His smile became even more pronounced. “But, here is where things get really strange.” He switched her chest X-ray for another. She already saw that kind of cells. “These are your blood cells.” He said with awe in his voice. “Completely not human.” He shook his head. “Still want me to call your parents?” Pierce asked in a whisper, his tone still vicious.
“It must be a mistake.” Liz told him, she knew that she was human. She was born, she didn’t come out of one of the pods like Max. She had been in a hospital before and her blood was always normal. He was lying to get more information from her, there was no other explanation. “I’m human, ask my parents. I had blood taken from me before, you are lying.”
“But this is all true, Liz. I know what you are, so now you are going to start answer my questions.” He got nearer her, trying to scare her, and he was succeeding in doing so, but she won’t give him the satisfaction of seeing her scared, she stayed stoic, like she was almost bored. “Delta, Colorado, 1962, Agent Lewis, the first head of this Special Unit was found dead.” He was now behind her, his hands laid at the side of her head. “His internal organs had reached a temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. A silver handprint was found on his chest.” He said the last bit almost putting his hand on her chest, just over her right breast. “What do you know about it?”
“Nothing.” She answered sincerely, trying to make him see that she wasn’t lying. He didn’t believe her.
“Union City, Tennessee, 1967 Agent Del Blanco, his replacement. Ring a bell?”
“No.” Again she could tell that he didn’t believe her.
“All right,” now he was angry. “How about this: May second, 1999, Agent Daniel Summers, the man that brought me in this unit, the man whose job I now have, did you kill him too? Or was it one of the others?” She could see that the last name was more important for him. She knew that ignoring his first question could make him more angry, but she need to know more about what the FBI know, to protect the others.
“What others?” Pierce almost lost it, but then he got his temper under control, at last a little.
“You know, I might not have been around in the 1947, but I know all about the crash. About the four aliens they captured,” now he was in front of her, so near that she could see even the single hairs in his head. “Two dead, two alive. I’ve spent my entire career studying the documentation.” He smiled at her, like he was telling her a bedtime story. “Especially the three years of observation they made on the one held in captivity, right here in this room.”
“I thought you said there were four.” She knew that it was dangerous asking, but she needed to know if Nasedo was the only shape shifter on earth.
“One of them escape. Nasedo, it’s not what you and your buddies call him?” he paced towards her and took out from a pocket the orb. “We found this when we caught you yesterday, and you know what’s funny? I have the other one, they are bringing it here before tomorrow. I want to know what happens when you put them together?”
“I don’t know.” From inside her she could feel a pull, something that asked her to take the Orb and protect it, but she couldn’t do anything. Pierce took back the little control and made the chair go back on her original position. Others white men come into the room, they brought a machine with two I.V. attached to it, one bright blue and one yellowish. The pinprick on her right hand let her know that they had put it on. Almost immediately she could feel the effect of whatever they were pumping into her. Her vision started to blur, her mind became more relaxed, and with that even her grasp on her side of the connection.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
Alex wanted to stay with Izzy, he wanted to be near her if something happened, and Max couldn’t complain. Something strange was happening to Liz. He could feel her side of the link again, she seemed confused and a little scared.
Izzy, laid between Max and Alex on Liz bed, one of her hands on her photo, the other on his forearm. The others were waiting outside the window, on the balcony.
“Let me in, Liz, let me in.” she whispered before both of her and Max’s eyes closed.
When they opened their eyes, they where in a white room.
“Liz!” Max called her with Izzy, they were both dizzy, the room seemed to rotate around them.
“Liz, oh God, stop this.” Isabel fell down, one hand on her head. “Max help me.”
“I can’t, they gave her something, and now is affecting me too,” he said from Liz side. She was awake but restrained on one wall of the room. Izzy got near them while Max took Liz face in his hands, trying to get her attention. “Look at me, Liz, tell me. Where are you?”
“I don’t know.”
“Please, Liz, we need to know how you got here.” He kissed her on the forehead. “Think harder, Liz.”
Both Max and Izzy were linked on a flash, they saw Liz being wheeled down a long corridor with an eagle emblem on the floor through a security door.
“Who brought you here.” Inquired Izzy. They needed all the information that they could get.
They saw Deputy Fisher in the room with them.
“Deputy Fisher?” Asked Max confused.
“No, it’s… look again.” She whispered, closing her eyes, probably trying to concentrate.
“It’s Agent Pierce, isn’t it?” A nod was her only answer.
“You have to go now.” She said smiling sadly at Max.
“I just got you, Liz, I’m not leaving you.” Max protested. He could feel her trying to get the both of them out of her mind. Four men wearing white safety suits come into the room and got them, forcing them out.
“Liz, no, Liz!” He tried to get back to her but she wouldn’t let him.
“Liz!” both him and Isabel screamed while waking up.
“Oh God. Oh God…” Isabel couldn’t seem able to stop, everyone rush inside from the balcony. Alex hugged her and Max got out from the bed.
“What happened?” Michael went to Max, seeing as he was crying.
“She is so scared.” He whispered, hugging his best friend.
“Isabel, Max, you need to calm down.” Michael made him set down again near his sister. “You have to tell us what you saw.”
“The deputy, the one that stopped us last night…” she was crying so much, Max tried to put a block on his emotions, he needed to be strong for Liz and for his sister to. “He’s Pierce.”
“Are you sure?” Alex asked her, then look at Max.
“She show us, she is scared, they are drugging her, and I think they are hurting her too.” His eyes were almost painful because of the tears that he was restraining.
“Where is she?” Maria asked getting nearer.
“I don’t know.” Isabel said closing her eyes.
“She showed us something, a pathway with an emblem on the floor… I think I have already saw it.” Max said looking at the others.
He drove them to the UFO Convention Center and showed them the symbol.
“Eagle Rock Military Base.” Maria read out loud. “This is were they said to have secretly taken the aliens after the crash.”
“This is it.” Isabel confirmed for him.
“It said that it’s abandoned for years.” Maria went on reading.
“It’s a lie.” Max said with a pained expression.
“Maybe we should go to Valenti now.” Alex proposed.
“It’s not a good idea.” Max stopped Michael, he knew that he would be against it, they didn’t need to lose time fighting. “We’ll go, the four of us, you will stay here.”
“But, Max…”
“No, Maria, not this time, please.” She nodded and stayed silent. “Micheal Tess, go back to the Crash Down, put together whatever you think we will need, even some snacks, waters, and a first aid kit. We don’t know what could happen. Izzy and I will look for some other details on Eagle Rock. We’ll see you in twenty?” Michael seemed to understand his need to talk alone with both Alex and Maria so after giving Maria a kiss he pulled Tess out.
“You can’t go alone, it’s dangerous.” Alex said hugging Isabel.
“That’s why I wanted Tess out. You’ll be our back up. If you don’t hear anything from us before 4 o’clock then go to Valenti and ask for his help.”
“Are you sure, Max?” Izzy was worried after seeing Deputy Fisher as Pierce in Liz’s flashes.
“Yes, I think he doesn’t know anything about Deputy Fisher being Pierce, and he helped us recently, even tonight in a way.”
“Okay, we will, Max.” Maria hugged him. “Please, bring both Liz and Michael back to me in one piece.” She joked, trying to hide her fears.
“We will make it. All of us.” He wasn’t sure if he said that to soothe Maria feelings or to make himself believe it.

Chapter 9b. The White Room
The travel didn’t take much time, they even easily found a way inside the compound. They arrived in front of a gate and saw an agent going through it after the scan took his fingerprints and an X-ray of his hand.
They heard someone walking towards them so they hide themselves in a room.
“Wait,” Tess stopped Michael from rushing out. “They always patrols in intervals.” Just seconds after another man walked by them.
“It was stupid of me, sorry.” Michael said to them. Max could see that he was beating himself over it, they had already worked on how to avoid patrols while trying to save Topolosky.
“It’s okay, Michael, stay calm.” he soothed his best friend. “How do you know?” He asked then to Tess.
“When you’ve been hunted all your life, it gets easier to catch on.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
She still felt groggy. The room was spinning around her.
“Tell me about the crash, Liz.” It was Pierce again. There was a man in white too. “What about the Orb? The communicator.” he snapped his finger. “Wake her up. Wake her up.” He hissed at the white men. “Tell me. Don’t make me kill you.” They waved some salt under her nose. “Liz, tell me how to use them. More!” he snapped at the white men. “I’m going to find out, one way or another.” he grabbed one of them and put him on her face. “See, this is getting us nowhere. I want everything flushed out of her system now. I want her completely coherent for next phase.” The last sentence put a lot of fear in her. She didn’t want to know what he wanted to do to her.
(if you don’t like to read about torture systems just skip this, if you saw the show you know what they will do to Liz)
She closed her link with Max as much as he could when she was coherent again, they stripped her from the gown then they drowned her in icy water for a while. She screamed, asked them to stop, but nothing about Max or the others got out of her mouth.
After they left her in the room, almost naked, her body freezing, her lungs hurting from the ice cold water that she inhaled from the torture session. All the while Liz only thought was that she needed to protect Max and the others, that was what kept her sane when the white men got back and bonded her again to the chair.
Pierce asked questions, she never answered him. He shocked her, times and times again. Every time the voltage was higher, until the pain was too much and she couldn’t do anything else but scream. She didn’t know how much time passed, surely hours, but Pierce never received his answers.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“She won’t let us in.” Izzy said to the others. I just keep seeing blinding lights. It’s not good.”
“I think she is in pain, but she doesn’t want us to feel it.” Max told the others.
“If we can go through the damn electric fence, why can’t we short circuit the system?” Michael asked to Tess.
“I told you, because they’re watching.” She hissed back to him for the tenth time. “The minute they see us, it’s all over.”
“We can just stay here, they could kill her.” He was going out of his mind.
Both him and Michael had stood up, but when they hear someone they got down again, and got near the door. Someone was wheeling a gurney with a dead body on it.
“It’s her?” Isabel asked him, tears already in her eyes.
“I don’t think so.” he could still feel Liz, she was alive even if their connection was almost completely shut down.
“Only one way to find out.” Tess got up and followed the gurney down the hall.
Max went behind her, knowing that they couldn’t get split again, not after yesterday disaster.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“It’s four, I’m not waiting anymore.” Maria took her jacket and pulled Alex out of the Crash Down.
“What are we going to say?” Alex asked her.
“Whatever we have to; to save her, to get some help.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
It wasn’t Liz, only an agent with a silver hand print on his chest, probably the dead body that Nasedo put as trail for Pierce the day before.
They were talking about Nasedo, Tess seemed really confused about founding out that her “father” was killing people, when an Agent came in.
“Hey, you shouldn’t be here. What are you doing here?”
Michael tried to use his power on him, but he wasn’t so good at controlling them.
The agent smiled at them and then lifted one hand, sending Michael flying backwards.
“It’s you.” Tess said to the man. It was Nasedo. He shape-shifted in front of their eyes. “Don’t ever leave me alone like this again.”
“I have four of you to watch now.”
Isabel helped Michael to get up, Max could see the look his best friend was giving to Nasedo, he still wanted answers from him.
“I’ve been looking for you for a long time.” He said confirming his thoughts.
“Not as long as I’ve been looking for you.” There was no emotions in his voice. “Now you are about to get yourself killed.”
“We are her for Liz.” If Nasedo thought that he would leave his Liz behind, he was even more crazy that he could have thought.
“This isn’t the local Sheriff you are dealing with. You should have know better. None of you are equipped to be here. I’ve got to get you out of here.” He shape-shifted again in the agent and brought them out of the morgue. They almost ran into the agent he was impersonating, but he saw him coming and they hid themselves in another room. He brought them in what could be the basement of the compound, there were pips and hot water heaters. The room was hot and there was a little stream around them.
“I don’t think we belong with him.” Izzy whispered to him and Michael when Tess and Nasedo got far away enough.
“He’s Nasedo, what choice do we have?” Michael shook his head.
“We could go back up there ourselves.” She proposed and as much as Max would have liked to get away from Nasedo and Tess presence, he knew that they needed those two.
“Five is better than three. We need them.” Said Michael, almost reading his mind.
He was going to say something but he saw Nasedo and Tess coming back.
He explained the plan to them, they found out some interesting thing about them, it seemed that their brain could be used as a scan, and that existed a metal the couldn’t manipulate. Nasedo needed someone that could change his fingerprints in the ones of one agent.
“I’ll go.” Max said, knowing that Michael probably didn’t know how to do it. They set their watches and then split.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
She was again in the white room. She wasn’t bound, but her body ached all over, it hurt even doing the littlest move. Pierce was in the room, she got up, faster than she thought possible and put her hand on him, trying to hurt him in some way.
“Don’t even try it, Liz.” He smiled to her, pushing her back as if she weighted nothing. “Don’t even try to use your abilities, Liz.” That confused her, he was still trying to use that story.
“I’m not an alien, I’ve no power!” She screamed at him. “You are trying to scare me, you are trying to manipulate me, but I’m only Liz Parker, I was born on earth, I’m human!”
“Please, Liz, I thought we got over the denial phase.” He laughed at her. “You saw your cells, I can assure you that I watched while they took the sample to the lab, that’s your blood. So please, don’t make me hurt you again, stop lying!” He screamed in her face.
She looked in his eyes and could tell that he wasn’t lying. She could hear him talking about a serum, something that should be able to stop alien powers, suppressing the neurotransmitters in their brain, but all she could think about was what she just found out. She had alien blood.
It couldn’t be possible, she had had blood sample taken from her in the past, her blood was always normal, even after Max saved her. Wasn’t it?
She thought back at the events of the last days.
“Stop, please!” she was screaming, the lights around them started to flicker, and then the mirror Max was pressed against seemed to break into millions of pieces out of nowhere. He fell forward, the agents right behind him. Liz felt herself getting tired and falling down, he tried to get to her but the agents were already trying to get him. “Max.” she was trying to scream but she was so tired. The glass around them exploded, one of the piece hit Max in the head and he passed out.
She had thought that it had been him doing that, in a disparate attempt to get to her, but after the glass and the lights exploded she was the one that felt tired. It wasn’t possible, but it had happened. Something had changed when Max healed her.
“…part human.” She got back in the moment when Pierce restrained her again on a chair. He puts some strange goggles on her head. “You have feelings,” she could see Alex, he was smiling while looking at her. “Emotions,” Maria was in her Crash Down's uniform, serving a table. “Friendship,” it was Isabel and Michael, they were at a table, eating. “Love.” she saw Max, he was in their Bio class, he was smiling. Then the scene changed. There was blood on him, he was dead. She knew it wasn’t real, she could still feel him, but that single image almost killed her.
“Max!” she screamed, trashing in her restrain.
“Trick photography, Liz.”
“Please, make it stop, Max!” She opened her bond and finally she could feel him again, they couldn’t talk, but when he felt her pain, her fear about losing him, he sent her soothing emotions and his love for her. She could feel that he was near, he was coming for her.
“You are evil.” She said to him, interrupting his speech.
“I’m evil? I’m risking my life to save my country, my planet from being colonized by alien life - by you. Tell me, Liz, tell me how we can use those.”
“I swear, I don’t know how to use them.” She was crying.
“Tell me Liz, or you’ll watch while we kill all your loved ones…”
“I swear, if I knew how to use them I would show you, but I don’t.” She cried harder, knowing that Pierce won’t believe her. “I didn’t even know what they were, before you told me about being communicators.” She trashed trying to get the goggles off of her.
“I would like to believe you, Liz, but I don’t. I leave you a little time, to think about it while you see your friends die in front of your eyes, maybe that will help you change your mind.”
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
Liz fear and sorrow wasn’t helping him on concentrating on his task. Something that normally would be easy for him to do was taking him so much more time, but he couldn’t do anything about it. Her emotions were so strong that he couldn’t stop them from getting linked to his.
Whatever Pierce was doing to her was breaking her down.
He was almost done when someone came into the room, Nasedo killed him without thinking a second time about it. In that moment Max knew that he would never completely trust someone, something, so devoid of feelings. He changed his clothes and followed him, his first thought was saving Liz, everything else came second.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“Have you changed your mind?” Pierce asked her removing the goggles from her. She was still crying, she had seen everyone she loved being killed time and time again.
“I’m telling you the truth, I don’t know how to use them.” She hissed at him, she was still scared but she was more angry right then. No one threaten her loved ones. If looks could kill, Pierce would be dead.
“Lets begin.” Other white men came into the room again, they brought some lamps and an operation table. She knew that Pierce was going to try something else again. He opened a cloth that was on the table, there were some surgical instruments in it. “I can take you apart piece by piece, and make sure you stay conscious enough to feel every second of it.”
“I can’t tell you what I don’t know. I can’t tell you what I don’t know!” He wanted to torture her for real this time. She didn’t know if she could take it, she hoped that she could or that she would die before telling him anything about Max.
“Bring in the surgeons.”
Liz tried again to open the link, she wanted to tell Max that she loved him one last time, he was still out of reach. The serum was still blocking their connection.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
He could feel her, she was trying to talk to him, but their connection was still weak. He and Nasedo got through the scanner. They were inside.
An agent stopped them, but he believed their cover and left them alone just when some surgeons got out from a room. He tried to follow them, but Nasedo stopped him, telling him that he couldn’t help Liz if he was dead. They needed to wait two more minutes.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
(If you don’t feel like reading some torture then maybe you should skip this part, you know how it goes, it’s the same that was on the tv show, only in my fic there is Liz in Max place.)
“This man will hurt you.” Pierce said pointing toward one of the surgeons with the scalpel. “That one will help you.” He pointed toward the one with a syringe. “Tell me what I want to know, and he will take the pain away.”
“Who is the monster now?” She asked looking at all of them, tears in her eyes.
“Open her up.” She closed her eyes, hoping to pass out when the pain would become too much.
Isabel was there, and her world was spinning again. She started to panic, she didn’t want her to see what Pierce was going to do, but she didn’t have the strength to push her away.
“Liz, we don’t have time, you have to listen to me. Max and Nasedo are coming to rescue you.” Isabel took her face in her hands. “Liz did you hear me? Please, Liz, please. You have to listen.”
“He wants me to make the orbs work.” She whispered.
“Why you? You couldn’t even if you knew… but that’s not important, Liz. You need to tell him something, get him alone in the room.” Liz could feel the cold metal between her breasts, they took away her bra, the thought make her find the strength to push Isabel away, before she could see what they were doing.
“Stop!” she screamed as she never had before, her chest was bleeding, the pain was stronger that anything she ever felt before. “I’ll show you how it works, but only you.” She cried, trying to get her hands free, to cover herself from their gazes.
(You can read again.)
“Clear the room.” Pierce ordered to the surgeons. He unbound her, he brushed a gauze on her chest, to clean a little of her blood then passed her a white t-shirt. She put it on, relived about covering herself.
Pierce brought to her the Orbs, she took them, she could feel there was something powerful about them. She closed her eyes, concentrating on her connection with Max, trying to connect with the Orbs, but she couldn’t, Pierce hadn’t thought that whatever serum he was giving her could block her from activating the Orbs.
“Make them work.”
“It takes a little time.” She tried to stall, hoping that whatever plan they had in mind would happen fast.
“I’m bringing them back.” She shivered at his word, the cut on her chest was hurting like a bitch.
“No, just wait.”
“You had you chance, Liz.” Pierce was going to call them back when something started to happens. It took her only a second to understand what was happening. She could feel Tess, using her power.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
Nasedo restrained him from breaking the glass when they got inside the observation room, he tried to break free from him, but he was stronger. He looked while they cut his beautiful Liz, all the while his heart breaking for her. She was half naked and bleeding. He wanted to kill them all.
He saw when Tess started her part, Pierce seemed captured by the Orbs, but everything was normal.
“Time is everything.” Nasedo let him go, and he broke the glass.
“It’s Nasedo, don’t worry, Liz.” He whispered to her, kissing her lips for a second. “Are you alright?” He knew she wasn’t but he had to ask. He took the Orbs from her and put them in his pockets
“I am now.” She tried to smile to him. They helped her getting out, leaving Pierce in the room alone with Nasedo.
They got outside the observation room, and the same agent from before stopped him, asking what he was doing.
“Pierce’s order,” Max lied to him. “I got to get the prisoner out of here. They need helps inside.” he pointed toward the room. “Go, now!” All the agents went inside, leaving them alone again. They opened the gates, Valenti was on the other side.
“Come on, come one.” he helped, them, trying to bring Liz out. “Come on!” Pierce got out his gun, he was going to shoot at them, but Valenti was faster. He got him in the shoulder and they escape.

This chapter will be more canon than the others and will be the last one but for the Epilogue. Are you sad? Do you want for me to do a sequel or would you like better to leave it with an open end? Let me know! Even if the sequel for this story will not win the poll I still write it while giving precedence to the others stories and I’ll post it when it’s complete so let me know if you are interested!

Chapter 10. Destiny
“That won’t stop Pierce.” Max told the Sheriff. “We’ve got to get Liz out of here, she needs to be healed.”
“I know somewhere safe,” Max looked in front of him, they where at the edge of the FBI base, he could see the others waiting for them. “It’s an old silver mine in Galitas off horseshoe road,” the three of them couldn’t go through the hole in the fence together, luckily Michael was on the other side. “If we make it there, it will buy us some time.” He passed Liz to him and Izzy. He could see Maria and Alex on the side, he was happy that they brought the Sheriff in. “We should split up, make it harder for them to follow. Come on! Come on!”
“Liz, stay with me…” he whispered to her.
“Where is Nasedo?” He could hear Tess asking, he was a little sad for her, but there was nothing they could do now.
“Just get in the jeep!” Michael ordered and, strangely, she complied.
“Come on, lets go!” Valenti screamed again.
“I don’t know about this…”
“I trust him.” He said to Michael seeing the doubt in his eyes. Valenti just saved him and Liz.
Max let go of Liz, letting Izzy take care of putting her in the car. They started the cars and speeded away, everyone taking a different direction.
He passed Liz some clothes, knowing that she would love to get out from the things that butchers gave her. She changed near him, not ashamed at all about being half naked. He loved her so much.
“Listen Liz, if we ever get out of this…” her screams stopped him. Someone was shooting at them. They broke the back window of the Jetta and didn’t stop at that. Max lost control of the car, the shooters got one of the wheals. He got out and helped Liz.
The agents were behind them. He helped Liz jump on the other side of a fence and then followed her. He helped her down a hill, saving her from falling down and hurting herself even more. The did some meters into the woods then double back onto the road. The agents were behind them, and a black van was in front. They were surrounded. There was no other choice.
“Come here.” he helped Liz climb up onto a guard rail then kissed her, knowing that what they were going to do was very dangerous. Max didn’t give her time to second guess, he took her hand firmly in his and together they jumped.
They stayed underwater as long as they could, then swam under the bridge, waiting for the men to got far enough away with their lights so they could swam out of the river. They followed a little stream, hoping to not leave traces behind for the men to follow. They entered a large tube, passing under the road and waited for the sound of cars passing over them to stop. To him that were only minutes, but he could feel that Liz was very tired. She needed to be healed or else she wouldn’t be able to go on.
They found themselves in a junk yard and he knew that it was probably their best option.
“We have to hide…” Liz whispered, confirming to him that she was almost without energy.
“I know,” he saw a van, it was in bad shape and even overturned, but it would be enough. “Come on, in here. It will be safe for a while, I don’t think they saw us getting out of the river.” He helped her sit down. “Liz…” he looked her in the eyes. She seemed far away, her expression was numb and her eyes almost completely dull. He kissed her, hoping to bring her back a little. He couldn’t lose her, not now, not ever.
The bond suddenly opened again, drowning Max in images of the last 24 hours.
“Liz…” he gasped looking at her.
“It’s okay, Max.” She smiled bravely. “I’m okay, now.” He hugged her, knowing that what she did for him, for Michael and Izzy, was the bravest things he ever saw someone doing.
Christ, Liz, I love you so much. He closed his eyes, her pain now his. I’m so sorry, I should have been there before, do something faster, stopping them from getting you.
Shh… don’t, Max. You would have done the same for me or everyone else, you did the same for me. She was the one in pain, the one that suffered through the tortures, and still she was the one comforting him. He could see the irony. You saved me, Max.
“That was the day my life began. You didn’t need to do anything for that, Liz.” He smiled and kissed her forehead.
“Please, Max, kiss me.” He didn’t need for her to repeat her request a second time. He kissed her even knowing that he would see and feel the pain they had subjected her in the White Room. He didn’t care. He was relived that he had the chance to feel it, because it meant that she was safe, that she was beside him.
“I love you too, Max.” She said with some tears in her eyes. “Even if you aren’t my destiny.”
“Liz..”
“The book, Nasedo, Tess. What they are saying is that you and Tess are meant to be together.” She was so sad. The feeling was even more crippling that the pain.
“To me it doesn’t matter Liz.” He took her face between his hands, making her look him in the eyes. “Even if it’s true, I won’t be with Tess ever!” He caressed her cheek, whipping away some tears. “Knowing you made me whole, Liz, and whether I die tomorrow or in fifty years from now, my destiny is the same: it’s you. I want to be with you, Liz. I love you.”
“I love you.” She let him kiss her again, their love spreading through the connection, engulfing the other.
“Wait…” he stopped Liz from reaching his belt.
“What?” She was surprised by the action. Through the bond she could probably feel his desire, just like he could feel hers.
“Let me heal you, Liz.” He put his hand over her heart. “I don’t want to hurt you even more.” She nodded and let him use his power, the sense of relief was immediate in both their minds.
Her smile became brighter, her eyes started to sparkle with mischief.
“I think that I should repay you in someway, shouldn’t I?”
“I think you should.” He let her take over, knowing that she needed to feel again in control. He was sure that he would love her idea on how to pay him off.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“So What is Valenti going to do? What are we all going to do?” Liz wasn’t paying too much attention to Tess, Isabel and Michael, but Alex brought her back to earth.
“We’re going to think this through, and we’re not going to panic.” Max said coming inside the mine.
“So, you think we should trust Valenti?” Isabel said going to him.
“We have no choice.”
“Yes we do!” Tess protested, getting too close to Max for Liz’s liking. Max, probably hearing her thoughts, took a step back. “We can go to the chamber and be safe, just the four of us…”
“No. We are in this together.” Max stopped her from going on.
“But Nasedo…”
“Isn’t here.” He walked back toward her. “And Pierce will do anything to anybody. He took Liz, he won’t hesitate taking the others.” Liz got up and hugged him from behind. She hadn’t said to him what Pierce reveled to her just hours before. With the crazy escape and the hot love making she had forgotten about it. He sent her some questioning feelings, probably sensing her turmoil.
Not now, not with Tess here. Was her only answer.
“Well, we sure as hell can’t stay here the rest of our life.” Michael brought them back on the topic.
“What do you mean? Leaving Roswell for good?” Isabel seemed scared about the idea.
If that’s what need to be done, I will follow you, Max.
“We’re not going anywhere.” Max said out loud, answering both Liz and Isabel. “We’re taking our lives back. If we run, then he’ll just keep hunting us and there is no coming back.” He looked at his sister more than the others. “Are you willing to never see home again? Any of you?” He looked at the others, never for a second looking at her, knowing that she would follow him to the end of the world. “Then we have to fight.”
“Fight the most elite unite in the FBI.” Alex said grimly.
“Who now knows who we are and everything about us.” Isabel let herself lean on Alex. She was scared, everyone could tell that, but Liz saw a spark of determination in her eyes. She was afraid but she won’t back down.
“Pierce does know who we are. But we also know who he is, and we’re stronger than he thinks.” Max was looking at Michael, probably remembering how he saved them just minutes before.
“Maybe even stronger.” She added thinking that maybe she should tell now, even if Tess was there.
“What do you mean?” Maria asked her.
She looked around, there was a lantern behind Michael, on the right. If Pierce was right, and the serum got out of her system, she could try to break the lantern, just like she thought she had done in the mirror’s house.
Max, can you let me see how you used your power to blast the glass in the White Room? He didn’t understand why she was asking, she was still blocking that part of her brain from him, mainly because he needed to be just as surprised as the other, but let her relieve his memory.
She raised her hand, and concentrated her gaze on the lantern. For a second it didn’t happen anything, then the lantern exploded, almost hurting Michael and Maria in the process.
“Oh, shit, I’m sorry, guys.” She said going to them, trying to find out if some silver had cut them, not seeing their face.
“Wow. That was you?” Isabel was the first one to gain back her ability to talk. “How?”
“I have some hypothesis on how it happened, but we don’t have time to go through it in details. The summary is that when Max healed me, he probably did something that changed me. Pierce took some blood sample and he let me see them. My blood it’s different, just like yours.”
“That’s impossible.” Maria got out from Michael embrace and went to her best friend, looking at her like she was expecting to see her skin turn green.
“I won’t turn green, Maria.” She joked, loving to see her blush. “But you are right, it should be impossible, but it happened. I didn’t believe Pierce at first, but then I remembered what happened into the Mirror’s house.”
“The glass and the lights all around us exploded.” Remembered Max, awed and a little scared by the news.
“It was me, I wanted to save you.”
“That’s not possible.” Tess hissed at her. “You are lying.”
“I’m not, Tess. We can even do some test when we get back home if you don’t believe me, but we don’t have time just now.”
“She is right, we need to plan.” Isabel intervened before things could get out of hand.

Things had gone so smoothly that they started to relax. He didn’t even see Pierce moving, all he felt was Valenti colliding in his and Michael’s side. Then the Sheriff started to shoot back.
He saw him reload his gun when from the other side of the room, Pierce reappeared. He couldn’t do anything, he was too far away.
“No!” Michael got out from behind the bookshelf and raised his hand, using his powers to shove Pierce backwards.
He went near him, and together with the Sheriff they went to check on Pierce.
“He’s dead.” The others were there too. Maria didn’t hesitate, she hugged him, preventing him from going away. Valenti took the gun in his hands and started to inspect it. “It’s one of mine.” he looked behind and seemed to see something. “No. On no!” They were all frozen into their places. “Aw, no, Kyle! Aw, geez, no! No, Kyle!” he was moving things around, exposing Kyle. They boy had a bullet wound on his chest. “Augh! Help! Help me! Somebody help me.”
He didn’t know what to do. He could heal him, save his life, but then he would change, like Liz. It could put them all in danger.
Max, we can’t leave him die. Liz looked at him, she was crying for her friend. He knew she was right.
“Save my son, please.”
Max ran toward them and got on his knees.
“If I do this, he could change.” he said to the Sheriff.
“What do you mean?”
“Liz changed after I healed her, it took time, but she is like us. That’s why Pierce had her.”
“Do it, I don’t care. I want him to live. Don’t care if as an alien or whatever. Just save my son.”
Max put his right hand on his chest and started the healing. He tried to block the flashes, and he could do it to a point
“So you and Max…”
“No we’re not.” It was Liz, she looked a little different from now. “Neither are we.”
“What?” He was heartbroken.
Max took off his hand from Kyle, he was okay. He healed him.
“What the hell just happened to me?” Kyle asked after taking some deep breath.
Liz was by his side in seconds when she felt that he was getting weaker. The healing had been harder that he thought.
“I don’t care who you are, or what you are. I’ll be here for you.” He had tears in his eyes, but he looked happy. “I need a moment alone with my son.”
“Sure, but we’ll need to talk Sheriff, with the both of you.” Liz told him before going back to the others. Max followed her, finding Maria and Michael discussing what happened with Pierce.
“… Look what I did to Pierce. I’m not gonna take that chance with you. I don’t want you to be around for what’s going to happen.”
“Wait. Don’t do this to me Michael…”
“If you hadn’t I would have done it Michael.” Max said to stop him before he could tell something to Maria that he would have regretted. “Maybe you weren’t in complete control of yourself, but me and Isabel can teach you how to control your powers, but you don’t have to feel guilty because of Pierce.”
“I kill people, Maxwell…” he seemed almost disparate.
“You saved the Sheriff life, you saved all of us Michael.” Liz got near him. “You are a fighter, you don’t back down and you protect the ones you love. The man you killed wouldn’t have thought two seconds about killing anyone of us.” She stopped for a moments, almost afraid of doing something.
“Liz, you don’t…” he tried to stop her, knowing what she wanted to do.
“It’s okay, Max.” Liz took Michael hand in hers. “He was a monster, Michael.” She pushed down her blouse a little letting him see the healed cut that started just under her neck and disappeared between her breasts. “You were brave, you stopped him.”
“Oh my God.” Maria put her hands on her mouth, tears started to fall down her cheeks, seeing the scar on her best friend chest. “What they did to you?”
Liz let go of her blouse and went to her, hugging her.
“Liz…” Michael looked back at Pierce body, disgust clearly written on his face.
“It’s okay, I’m okay now.” She went to him and gave him a brief hug before going back into Max’s arms.
“We have to get Nasedo.” Tess interrupted them harshly.
“I know where he is.” Isabel said.
“We’ve got to go. Now.” He looked to his friend. “I can’t make you do this.”
“We don’t need them…” Tess tried to say, but Michael stopped her.
“We never do things alone, never again.”
“We are a family, we’ll get through it together.” Alex embraced Isabel and kissed her temple.
“You are not making us do anything, Max. We choose our own destiny, remember?” She smiled and he couldn’t stop himself from kissing her. She really was the best of them all.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“How are we doing this?” Maria asked when they all were at the pod’s chamber. “There are seven of us and only four healing stones.”
“I think that only us should do it, we don’t need your help.” Tess took one stone from the satchel and went near Nasedo body.
Max was going to take another but Liz stopped him.
“Together.” She smiled at him and put his hand over her, clasping the stone between their joined hands.
Maria, Michael, Isabel and Alex did the same. They made a circle around Nasedo and concentrated on their energy, just like Riverdog taught them.
Nasedo’s body started to glow and change under their eyes, the black man he was, turned back into Ed Harding, but not before letting them see what could possibly be his real aspect.
“I know you wouldn’t leave us.” Tess smirked at him.
“You are not ready to be left alone.”
“You are right, we need you. Show us how the orbs work.” Michael told him when he got up.
“They doesn’t belong here.” Nasedo said pointing at Liz, Alex and Maria.
“They belong with us.” Max took Liz in his arms. “We want to know. You are the only one who can show us.”
“It’s not my job to show you. My only job is to keep you alive.”
“Your job?”
“Then tell us if they are communicators and with whom they communicate.” Michael got his attention back on him.
“You are not ready to know yet.”
“You don’t know how t use them, don’t you?” Maria butted in, Liz could see clear as day that she was trying to get a rise from Nasedo, daring him into telling them how to use the orbs.
“If you really want to know what the orbs do, you can find out for yourselves, I can’t stop you. But do it at your own risk. Set off the orbs and you never know who you could contact in the process.”
“If you’re really here to protect us there is something you have to do. The only way we can ever go back is if nobody’s hunting us anymore.” Max changed the topic.
“Pierce is already dead.” Nasedo was confused, but Liz could see where he wanted to go. Max was a genius.
“He’ll only be replaced, unless we replace him.” he smirked and looked as Nasedo shape-shifted into Pierce, having understood the plan. “The other agents are at an abandoned gas station in Hondo.”
“Now that I’m the head of the Special Unit, we’ve have all their resources. You’ll be safe.” He smiled while leaving.
Liz took out one orb from Max’s jacket, he had given it to her while getting back from Hondo. He passed the first orb to Michael.
“You should touch it together, maybe.” She proposed, trying to smile even when Tess smirked at her.
She took out the second one and passed it to Max, but when both their hands were on it, something started to happen.
“What’s happing?” Tess glared at her.
“I think that we activated them.” Max said with awe in his voice while looking down at her and his hands, joined by the orb.
A light appeared in front of them, then it transformed in a woman.
She told them about their past, about who they were, why they were on earth, and she warned her about their enemies. She told them that they had a destiny to fulfill. Together.
“She’s so beautiful.” Isabel whispered when the message ended.
“I always knew there was something out there, but I had no idea how important it was.”
“Things will never be the same.” He looked around at the humans in their group. “I can’t ask you to be with us, to help us.”
“I thought that we already went through this.” Alex smirked going to Isabel. “We are in this together, the seven of us.”
“Nine if you count the Valenti’s, and we must, because sooner rather than later, Kyle is going to go green.” Maria joked, making Isabel smile.
“I knew this was meant to be.” Tess whispered to Max, getting nearer to him.
Liz already knew about all the destiny bullshit, but hearing it from another source had hurt her.
“No.” Max pushed Tess away and went to Liz. “You may have been my bride, my wife in another life, but I don’t remember you Tess, and I don’t want to be with you.”
“But it’s our destiny!” Tess exclaimed, looking enraged. Liz started to feel the compulsion on leaving Max, to tell him to follow his destiny and run away, but she didn’t let Tess influence her.
“Your destiny is to help your people, Tess. You can do it while being a friend, just like Michael and Isabel. Max’s mother never asked you to be together in the message.” Maria pointed out. “I mean, nothing will change if you and Max don’t do the horizontal tango. You can save the universe while being friend.”
Liz could kiss her best friend, she was telling things as she could see them, and Tess couldn’t do anything to change her mind now, it would appear suspicious. Now more than before, because they knew her power.
“She is right. Even if I broke up with Liz, I still wouldn’t love you, Tess.” Max squeezed her hand, sending through the bond his love to her. “But if our mother is right and our enemies are here, on earth, we should start to train, develop our powers.”
“As you order, King Max.” Michael joked making him blush a little.
“I see many king joke in your future.” Liz whispered to him.
“What happens now, Max?” Tess asked trying to bring his attention back to her.
“I think we should go home, our parents are probably a little suspicious of our last 48 hours activities. We can take the weekend to relax, and start to train on Monday?”
“I think is the best idea you ever had, I need those day.” Alex smiled.
“Me too, I’m tired as hell.” Michael yawned
“Then we’ll see each other on Monday.”

Questions:
The message in the orbs was true or one of Tess illusions?
I think it was true. Nowhere in the message Max’s mother told him that he HAD to be with Tess in the biblical sense. I think that they sent the four of them down together because they are and were a powerful unit, not only because she was his bride. So the message is the same even here.
Did Tess influenced Liz choice about leaving?
Yes I think she did. We saw how much she loves him only hours before, in the van. They talked about his “destiny” and this kind of reaction to me seems a little too drastic. I mean, she went away a whole summer, without even saying goodbye. WTF?

Only an Epilogue then this story is over!

Last update for this story! I hope you liked it. I'm so sorry for the long wait but the end (for now) it's here.
Have fun.

Epilogue.

“I think I hate you, Max.” Maria was complaining again when they reached the quarry. “You always make me wake up before dawn, even when you promised me two days of rest.” Liz smiled at her best friend pout. She was adorable.
“I’m sorry, Maria.” Max blushed under her gaze. “But it needed to be done.” He gave her a little smile, hoping to be forgiven for the brash wake up call.
“Stop making him feel guilty, Drama Queen.” Alex laughed at her. “If the king call we must answer.” He smirked and reached for Isabel hand.
“This is going to be so funny…” Max snorted hearing the umpteenth king joke.
“Please guys, I want to go back to bed before my lunch shift.” Michael interrupted them all.
“Yes, we are here to discuss a topic.” Liz started, getting serious.
“We need to decided if we should trust or not Tess and Nasedo.” Max completed for her. “I may be the king, but we are a family, and we will decide what to do as always, with a vote.”
“I don’t think we should trust the both of them.” Isabel said. “I saw what Tess was capable to do with her powers, and she didn’t denied of sending things to Max to, and I quote, let him see the things that were in front of him.”
“I don’t trust her, and it’s not because what she is trying to do to Max.” Liz took her boyfriend hand in hers. “I have a gut feeling, I can’t trust her, something inside me is telling me that I shouldn’t relax around her.”
“I trust Liz.” Max said as his way to vote. “And I don’t trust Nasedo. He killed a man in front of me for no other reason but because he could. He had control on his powers, he could have put him out, but he decided to kill him. He is without feelings.”
“I never trusted them and I never will.” Maria huffed.
“Neither did I.” Alex shook his shoulder.
“Then my vote doesn’t matter.” Michael looked Max in the eyes. “But I’m with you.”
Max smiled, she could feel that he was relived that his best friend, his brother in all things but blood, believed in him more than the shape-shifter.
“Then it’s decided. We don’t trust them, we will go on with the diaries and we don’t tell them our inner secrets.” Max looked at her, a little smile on his face.
“What we do with Kyle?” Maria asked after some seconds of silence.
“I honestly don’t know.” Liz sighed. “I talked with Valenti yesterday. He said that he told Kyle what he knew and that he wasn’t ready to talk with us. He wanted to go away for the summer, but I asked him to stop him because he need to hear that he could turn green too.”
“About that, you never explained your theory.” Alex said curios.
“Well, I don’t know if you saw it on Kyle, but when Max heals humans he leave behind those silver hand print, just like the ones that Nasedo left on the… corpses.” She shuddered at the memory of the agents that he took out from the trunk during the little trip they did only days ago. “Within days it disappeared but I think it was because my body adsorbed whatever substance it was made of. I think that that and the energy he left behind, had started the same process that happened inside your pods before you were born.”
“If that’s it, then why it took months for you? We stayed in that pods for decades.” Isabel interrupted her explanation.
“It’s only a theory, but I think it was the fact that it already happened.” She tried to think about a easier way to explain it. “I mean, your DNA is obviously different, and the changes that your… people did on you are probably dominants. So when he, for lack of a better term, infected me, the same changes started on my DNA too. It was faster because it already happened. They had ready the end results, it only needed to be replicated.”
“Are you saying that you are Peter Parker and Max is the radioactive spider that changed his DNA and made him Spider-Man?” Alex, always the helpful nerd.
“Pretty much.” Liz giggled at the image. “Only it didn’t happen overnight to me.”
“Do you think it’s possible?” Michael asked Max.
“She is the scientist.” He lifted his shoulder. “To me it seems logical enough.”
“And if she is right then Valenti too will change.” Alex said. “If it will happen then she is probably right. If not then we will need to find another explanation.”
“So what we do now?” Isabel crossed her arms, her eyes on me and Max.
“We wait, we prepare ourselves, and we will go through things together.” Max answered her looking as the sun appeared at Est.
-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-._.-
“Why are you contacting me? ” The voice coming from the speakers was beautiful and glacial at the same time.
“I’m sorry, your Majesty, but it’s a matter of vital importance. The king is alive, our source confirmed it, and he now know about Antar and the war.”
“Do you know where he is?” He could hear a hint of excitement in his words.
“Yes, in Roswell my King.”
“You are doing a very good job, Nicholas.”
“Should I kill the boy?” The skin asked while looking at a photo that his minions gave him of Max Evans.
“No, you need to go on with the plan. I need to reinforce my right to the throne. We need to follow the plan.” Nicholas sighed. He didn’t like the plan, it implied that the King and that bitch must stay alive until they reached their goal, but if that was what his king wanted, he would obey.
“I shall do as you say, King Khivar.”

THE END… for now.
