Yes, you're eyes aren't deceiving you, this is the next part and yes, I've skipped lots of time to begin this next part. :D Don't freak, remember, this story has already been planned out to the very end, I just haven't 'fleshed' it out. They are immortals after all, so I can write about them f-o-r-e-v-e-r if I choose... Instead, I just want to write about certain episodes in Max and Liz's life, so here ya go...Enjoy!

Erina- Yes. You'll see...

Emz- You're welcome.

W.C.- Thanks, me too!

behrly- I'm back.

BehrOb- Yes and yes.

candy- I totally agree with everything you said, but I guess some people just see things differently though. Oh well, it's okay to have different opinions. Thanks and you're welcome. :D

La'Shon- yeah, it's tough being in that HUGE place all alone!

roswell- you're welcome. Hmm...

M in Y- Um...well I never did say what Liz was going to college for. I had also tried to make it sound like none of the people she went to the club with were technically her 'friend', not even Amy. Sorry for the mistake. :( True, vamps do, but since humans don't have a problem with killing a cow and eating it, why should vamps feel bad? It's just the 'top of the food chain' mentality that even we as humans have. And those things about Bedros mate....they'll be touched on here :D Humans and immortals can be a syndeo, but a human has to be a syndeo otherwise they can't be converted at all and then only by their syndeo.

Ashley- Here ya go!

extingman- here ya go!

Part 11

*SIX YEARS LATER*

Liz stood in the domatio ilios near the wall of glass. Her arms were folded in front of her as she stared out at the gardens in the moonlight. Even after all this time, she still loved to come to this room to gather her thoughts. It was here that she seemed to be able to think rationally and calmly.
And tonight, she had reason to need that. When she and Max had awoken for the evening and had spent some time together before he went to attend some meetings, she had once again broached the subject of her conversion. As usual, Max had changed the subject, once again putting it off until the next time she’d bring it up.
As she once more tried to think of why he would have spent the last six years letting her continue to be a human, Isabel entered the room, “Evening Liz, are you all set for the party you’re hosting the night after tomorrow?”
Liz nodded, “As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Isabel frowned at the wistful note she heard in her friend’s voice. Walking to her side, she asked, “What is it?”
Liz sighed, “I tried asking him again, Isabel. He’s still avoiding the subject.” She closed her eyes and whispered, “Why won’t he convert me?”
Isabel’s heart went out to Liz as she heard the pain in her voice. This had come to be a regular subject between them over the past few years. Not that she blamed Liz. After all, every last one of the coven members had expected their Archigos to convert his syndeo the moment it had become clear that they were now osizigos and isyzygos. As far as everyone was concerned, Liz was already their Archiga.
Isabel made a mental note to talk to her adelfos as soon as she got the chance. She didn’t understand why Max would wait all these years to convert Liz. After all he’d gone through to make Liz his, now suddenly he didn’t seem in any rush at all to convert her. In fact, Isabel was certain that Max was completely happy with the way things were going in his life. He had Liz, and he loved her unconditionally.
Everyone saw how Max treated Liz. How could they not? Her brother worshiped the ground Liz walked on. And Isabel saw how he gave Liz everything she asked for. She saw how Max could be extremely loving and gentle, spoiling his wife every chance he got. And she saw how he could also be fiercely protective and possessive, never allowing anyone else to get too close to his beloved, especially if they were male.
“I don’t know Liz. Maybe, maybe he was waiting for you to get a little older before he converted you.”
“How much older can I get Isabel? I’m going to be twenty eight in a few months! That’ll make me older than him, if he’d ever been human!”
Isabel nodded. If things were exactly like they’d been explained to Liz, Max was twenty seven in human years. Even though vampires were technically immortal, they could age. Every twenty years or so, they seemed to age a year, physically.
But no one could really say if they were truly immortal or how old one could get since there were no vampires around who had aged into their thousands, much less their hundreds. If there were some still alive, they weren’t talking and no one seemed to know of any who still survived.
That was mainly because of all the wars the covens tended to have. These wars were often the things which kept the elders from living for eternity. It was also the reason why many couples who found their omologia quickly made them their syndeo so as not to live with the grief of losing their loved one.
And that was the reason many of the coven members were getting anxious again. Max had made Liz his syndeo. If she died, he would too and as a human, she was extremely at risk of that. If he converted her, she’d be immune to many of the things humans were not. Once converted, Liz would have his powers, his strength, and his ability to heal from wounds fatal to most humans. So, why was he stalling?
Liz voiced the things Isabel was thinking, “He once told me that when he converted me, I’d be like him. You know, strong and immune to things humans aren’t. But he won’t do it and I’m beginning to think it’s because he doesn’t want me to be as strong as he is.”
Isabel frowned, “I don’t think that’s it Liz.”
“Why not? You know how much Max is used to being the one in control. I think he’s afraid that once he converts me, I’ll be as powerful and strong as him. I won’t be weak and helpless and dependent on him anymore. I think he likes the fact that I have to depend on him for so many things.”
Isabel shook her head, “That doesn’t make any sense Liz. Max is constantly obsessing over your safety. We all are. We all know what will happen to him should something happen to you, it goes both ways.”
Liz rolled her eyes, “Yeah, but if he converted me, he wouldn’t have to obsess over it.”
“Not true. You are his syndeo. Even when he converts you and you officially become our Archiga, everyone will still be obsessed with your safety. We are that way with Max’s.”
“Well, then, why is he stalling?”
Before Isabel had a chance to answer that, Helena came into the room, “Kyria?”
Liz turned to see the maid curtseying, “Yes, Helena?”
“Forgive me for interrupting, Kyria, but the decorator for the party has arrived and there are messages from some of the attendees that need your attention.”
Liz nodded, “Right. Have the decorator meet me outside on the patio and put the messages on the desk in the study, I’ll answer them as soon as I’m done with the decorator.”
“Of course, Kyria.” Helena gave another curtsey before leaving the room.
Liz turned to Isabel and smiled, “Don’t suppose you want to join me in driving the decorator crazy, do you?”
Isabel laughed, “No. That’s your job tonight. I only like to drive the decorators crazy when it’s my party I’m hosting.”
Liz grinned and gave Isabel a hug before the two women parted ways for the night.

Max resisted the urge to groan the moment he laid eyes on his adelfi. Isabel sat on the couch in his office, her arms folded over her chest glaring at him as he entered.
He had just gotten home from his meeting and was hoping for a little quiet time to himself before going to gather his wife for some much needed quality time. At least he was hoping Liz would give that to him without bringing up anything that would ruin the moment.
His jaw tensing, he asked the question his instincts were telling him not to, “What can I do for you, Isabel?”
The moment she opened her mouth, he knew he should have listened to his instincts. Standing up and placing her hands on her hips, Isabel laid into him, “What is wrong with you? Do you have any idea what you are putting her through?”
He sighed, “What are you talking about adelfi?”
“I’m talking about converting Liz. She’s your isyzygos, Max! She has been for the last six years! Isn’t about time she became our Archiga? What are you waiting for?”
Max frowned, “Have you been talking to Liz again?”
Isabel rolled her eyes, “What does it matter? All of us are wondering Max. It’s been six years! Haven’t you noticed that? The rest of us have. She’s already been a part of this coven for years! She’s done a great job of learning all about our world and what it takes to rule a coven. She’s always by your side supporting you and our people love her. They respect her. They see how wonderful she is at dealing with you and with them. We all need her!”
“I know that, Izzy.”
“Then why haven’t you converted her? Don’t you see? She loves you and wants to spend eternity with you. And Max, haven’t you realized that Liz isn’t getting any younger?”
Max shut his eyes at those words, “I know,” he whispered.
“Do you? Do you know that she thinks the reason you won’t convert her is because you don’t want her to be as powerful as you are?” Isabel paused as Max opened his eyes and stared at her. “She thinks you like having her weak and dependent on you for everything.”
“That’s not true. She’s not weak Isabel.”
Isabel frowned, “Admit it Max, you like having complete control of her.”
Max shook his head, “I don’t have control of her! I never did. You know that! Liz has always been the strong one! She’s the one who’s kept me sane! I depend on her, not the other way around!”
Isabel sighed, “Well, that’s not what she thinks, adelfos.”
Max looked away for a moment before nodding, “I get it, Izzy. I’ll talk to her.”
“Max, she doesn’t need you to talk to her. You need to convert her.” Isabel frowned at the fear she saw in her brother’s eyes. “What is it Max?”
He swallowed, “What if I lose her?”
“You won’t lose her if you convert her.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I know that the longer you keep her human, the more chance you have of losing her. And we will all lose you too. She’d be safer once you convert her.”
Max sighed, “I’m not talking physically Isabel. I meant mentally.”
“What?”
He looked up at his sister and said, “About two weeks before I made Liz my syndeo, we were at a party. I meet a man there who had converted his own syndeo. She had been human once too and he told me how she had completely changed after he’d converted her. He said that he’d known her as a human for about a year and in that time he had fallen in love with her and she had loved him. But after her conversion, she became cold towards him. He said she was nothing like she had once been.”
“What has that got to do with Liz?”
Max looked at Isabel with fear in his eyes, “What if I convert her and she no longer loves me?”
Isabel frowned, “She’s your syndeo, Max. Neither one of you have a choice, you’re both destined to love each other forever.”
“No, being syndeo means she’s connected to me forever, it has nothing to do with how she feels about me.”
“Max, it’s common knowledge that a syndeo never willingly leaves their mate, it’s impossible. You know that.”
“Physically and mentally yes, but that doesn’t prevent the heart from wanting something else. If she left, we’d both be destroyed, but what if that’s not enough to keep her with me?”
“She loves you. She wants this, why would you think she’d leave?”
“Bedros said Dessa wanted it too. She still changed anyway.”
“Do you know if she left him? Obviously not then, since he was alive to tell you this. Maybe they were just having a falling out.”
Max shook his head, “He said she’d been that way for the last seventy years, how could they just have a falling out that lasted that long?”
“I don’t know Max, maybe he did something to upset her.”
“It was a gradual change, Izzy. Even Alex said Dessa wasn’t the same woman he’d known when she had first been converted. And from the way Bedros was talking, Dessa seemed to barely be tolerating his presence. He said she was the way she was and there wasn’t anything he could do to change it.”
Isabel sighed, “And this is why you have put this off for so long? Because you’re afraid she won’t love you anymore?”
The look on her brother’s face was her answer.
“Talk to her Max. Tell her your fears. Maybe if you let her know what you’re afraid of, it could prevent anything like that from happening. I don’t think she would change Max. I think she will still love you even then. She’s your syndeo Max. You allowed her to make the choice, allow her to make this one too.”
Max nodded, he knew she was right. He couldn’t avoid this forever. Because he knew Liz didn’t have forever.

Liz made her way back to her favorite room in the house. She had spent the past few hours dealing with the decorator, discussing the plans of how the patio and pool area would look for the party she and Max would be hosting in two nights.
The decorator had wanted it to be extravagant, to the point of it being gaudy with bright colors and lots of lights. Liz wanted subtlety. Something with soft lights, since most of the attendees would be vampires with sensitive eyes.
So, she and the decorator had politely argued back and forth until Liz had finally convinced the decorator to do things her way. After all, it was her party and her money to do with as she liked. Even the decorator had to concede that.
Liz had been glad that she’d agreed because her guards had started to get antsy at the way the decorator was arguing with her. The last thing Liz wanted was for them to cause a scene just because the decorator didn’t agree with her tastes. She didn’t want Max to come flying home in a rage that someone dared to upset her. Sometimes he got all protective over the strangest things.
After that, Liz had gone to the study on the second floor to deal with the messages from the various attendees. While that had been more pleasant than dealing with the decorator, it still had taken some time to make all the calls and talk to the people.
Now she just wanted to relax for a few moments before Max came to get her so that they could retire for the night. She made her way into the domatio ilios and sat in the chair she had positioned near the wall of windows. Leaning back in it, she was able to get the full view of the night sky and the back yard. Sometimes she could even believe she was outside, surrounded by sky and the world below it. It gave her a sense of flying, of being free.

Slowly Max made his way to the third floor. Once he’d finished his business for the night, he’d stepped out into the foyer and asked the first servant he’d seen if they knew where his wife was. Granted, he could have used his mind to find her, but he rarely liked to do that, knowing how Liz felt about her privacy.
The servant had immediately replied that she was in the domatio ilios, then scurried away at the scowl that had instantly appeared on Max’s face. Max hadn’t meant to frighten the servant, but any mention of that room always made him cranky. It made him even more cranky when he found out that’s where she was.
Liz loved that room. He’d done what he could to convince her to find another room to call her favorite, but she’d insisted on that one. He still couldn’t understand why she chose that room, after all, it afforded no privacy whatsoever. At least to him it didn’t. And the name was also enough to instill fear in any vampire around. Only a foolish vampire would be caught dead in a room aptly called domatio ilios, room of sun.
As he made his way up the stairs, he thought back to the conversation he’d had with his sister. So, Liz had recruited Isabel into this plan of cornering him to convert her. He couldn’t really blame her for that, he’d been avoiding that topic for years now, but still he didn’t think he was ready to face it yet. He wasn’t even ready to talk to Liz about it.
What was he supposed to say? Sorry, but I want you to remain human because I love you like this. It didn’t even make sense to him, especially when everyone knew she’d just grow old and die while he didn’t. Still, he knew that’s what he was afraid of. Over the last few years, he’d come to realize that he loved Liz as a human.
He believed that what he loved most about her was her ‘humanness’. It was that which made her love him as passionately as she did. As a human she made him smile, she had a great mind, and she was wonderfully compassionate to everyone she met. Max loved the way she met everything head on and was extremely graceful and levelheaded when dealing with any crisis, including him.
He was terrified that she would lose all of that when he converted her. She would change into something cold and calculating like he was. She would no longer be the yin to his yang, and that was something he desperately needed. He needed her to keep him sane and calm. Most of all, he needed her to keep loving him the way she did.
Rounding the corner of the doorway, he looked into the room to see her hair hanging over the back of the chair she was sitting in. A smile graced his face as he took in the way she had let it hang loose. He loved it when she wore it long for him.
He walking in silently, wanting to surprise her. As he walked around the chair, he opened his mind to hers and instantly saw red.

Liz had no warning at all before she was snatched from her chair and yanked to his chest. She let out a squeak of protest as she heard her husband growl, “Max? What has gotten into you? Let go off me.”
“Never! I will never let you go! You are my syndeo! You know what that means! You chose it!”
She looked up at him with a frown, “I know I did. That’s not what I meant. What is wrong with you? Why are you upset?” She indicated the way his eyes had turned to molten gold and his fangs were still growing dangerously long. The way his fingers were digging into her arms told her he was angry about something.
He hissed, “You cannot leave.”
“Max, I’m not leaving. I made my choice, I told you that. You are not making any sense.”
“I saw it Liz! Don’t lie to me!”
“Saw what Max? What are you talking about?”
“Freedom.” He hissed once more, “You were thinking about freedom.”
Liz gave him a puzzled stare, “Freedom?” It suddenly dawned on her what he was talking about and she grinned. “No Max, you saw it wrong.”
He gripped her harder, “It’s not funny, yineka!”
Liz sighed and managed to lift one hand to his cheek, “Max, it isn’t what you think. I’m not leaving you. I’m your syndeo, why would I kill us both?” She shook her head, “No, I wasn’t thinking of freedom. I was thinking about flying.”
Max slowly released her as she allowed him to see the images in her mind. Taking his hand, she led him to the windows.
“See? Sometimes it seems like I’m flying and able to see the sky and the ground below.” She slid an arm around his waist as she continued, “It’s really beautiful up here at night sometimes Max. I wish you could see it the way I do.”
Max stood there looking out of the window as the images continued to move through his mind. He was seeing things the way Liz saw them. It helped him to see why she loved the room so much. Here she was able to be surrounded by nature in safety. Here she could find her peace, just like he found his peace in her.
He closed his eyes and stepped behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. As he buried his face in her hair, he whispered, “I’m sorry, Liz. I just saw the last part of what you were thinking and I just assumed…”
“I know, it’s okay.” She turned around in his arms, a serious look on her face, “I love you and I promised you forever. Why can’t you give me that?”
Max looked away from her, his jaw flexed.
Liz reached up and brought his eyes back to hers, “Answer me, why can’t you convert me?”
Max closed his eyes as he tried to figure out a way to tell her, sighing he looked down at her waiting patiently for his answer. He stroked her cheek as he replied, “I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t lose me Max, I’m already connected to you.”
“I know, but I could still lose your love.”
She frowned, “What?”
He swallowed before he went on to tell her the same thing he’d told Isabel. Liz stood there with a frown on her face as she listened to Max recount the conversation he had with Bedros over six years ago. That was how she found out that Max was terrified that she wouldn’t love him once he’d converted her. He was afraid she’d change completely and become someone no one would recognize.
When he’d finished Liz pulled away from him and walked to the wall. She stood there looking out at the night with her arms folded over her chest. Max remained where he was, silently waiting for her to say something.
After a few moments, she turned around to pin him with a stare. “He did say that there was no guarantee that would happen, right? I mean, all the others he talked to had different outcomes, right?”
Max nodded.
“So why do you think I’ll end up hating you? Isn’t there a chance that nothing will change?”
“Because she loved him before the change Liz. They’d known each other for a year and loved each other then. She knew what he was and agreed to let him convert her. And still, she became different.”
“Max, I’ve been in love with you for six years.”
He nodded, “And you know what I am and want me to convert you. Don’t you see, it’s the same.”
Liz shook her head as she walked up to him, “No, it’s not Max. I’ve been in love with you for six years! Not one! Six! It’s not the same.”
“Liz…”
“No! Listen to me, Max. It’s not the same. He met her and dated her from the beginning. She went into the relationship with open eyes. Don’t you see? She always had the choice. You didn’t give me a choice until later. We don’t know why she is the way she is Max, but what if she had her own reasons?”
“What reason could she possibly have to refuse her syndeo?”
“I don’t know. What if she’s not refusing him Max? What if she’s just using him?”
He frowned, “What?”
Liz shrugged, “She knew what he was. And I remember that woman, the day I met you. She knew what you were too. She wanted what you could give her. She didn’t love you, she loved what you could give her. What if Dessa wanted what he could give her and pretended to love him to get it?”
“She’s his syndeo Liz!”
“You said it yourself Max, it’s our choice. Being a syndeo doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be in love. Isabel loves Alex and they aren’t syndeos.”
Max stood there stunned as the words Liz said sunk in. He’d never thought of it that way. He’d never thought it could be possible for one syndeo not to love their mate. “How could that be? Everyone knows what will happen if a syndeo left their mate.”
Liz nodded, “So, she didn’t leave him did she?”
Max shook his head.
“They’ll both live so long as she remains with him.”
He stared at her, “But how can he allow that? Look what happens to me when I feel like I’m losing you. I depend on you for my sanity, isn’t that the way it is for all syndeos?”
Liz shook her head, “I don’t think so Max. But then again, I have no idea what goes through anyone else’s mind. I just know how I feel and how you feel.”
Max shut his eyes, “I can’t lose you Liz, I can’t take that chance.” He opened his eyes to pin her with a pleading look, “I couldn’t take the pain of living with you and never being able to love you freely.”
Liz nodded, “I know that Max. Believe me, I feel the same way. I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think my feelings for you will remain the same.” She shook her head, “No, I know they’ll get more intense. My love for you will only grow the more time I have with you.”
She walked over to him and slid her arms around his waist, “I love you Max, ya panda.”
Max wrapped his arms around Liz and held her close, burying his face in her hair as she laid her cheek against his chest. They stood that way for a few moments, just cherishing the closeness of each other.
Liz tilted her head back and parted her lips, inviting Max to kiss her. He accepted that invitation and covered her lips with his own. As the kiss deepened, Liz slid her hands up his chest, her fingers finding the buttons of his shirt and undoing them. She slid her hands into the opening and slid it off his shoulders, tugging it out of his pants and tossing it to the floor.
Pulling away from him, she gave him a smile as she took his hand and led him to a pile of cushions she kept near the corner where she sometimes reclined to stare up at the sky. She pushed him down until he was lying on his back among the cushions.
Laying next to him, she leaned over to look into his eyes. As she traced a finger over his jaw and up to his lips, she whispered, “I love you, Max.”
Max closed his eyes as she once more claimed his lips. He moaned softly as she slid over his body and slid her tongue into his mouth.
Liz moved her mouth from his and kissed her way down his neck, pausing to take a long lick over his pulse before sucking on it.
Max hissed in pleasure at the feel of Liz’s mouth on his neck, his body instantly reacted to the anticipation of her bite, but to his disappointment, her mouth moved away.
Liz smiled against his collarbone as she heard the whimper escape. She knew what he wanted, but first she wanted to show him just how much she loved him with her mouth and hands. She continued to kiss and nibble her way over his collarbone and down his chest.
Max gasped as he felt her tongue flick against his nipple before she began sucking on it. He lifted a hand and curled his fingers in her hair to encourage her movements.
Liz kissed her way across his chest before she repeated her motions on his other nipple. Once she was satisfied with her teasing, she nibbled her way down his ribs to his abdomen.
Max moaned as Liz slid her tongue into his navel before she kissed his skin and teased the skin just above his pants. As she did that, her fingers were busy undoing his belt and pants.
She slid off of him and leaned down to devour his mouth again for a few moments, leaving him breathless. She mouthed the words, “I love you” as she turned and slid his pants and underwear down his legs.
Max lifted his hips to help her and watched as she removed the remaining clothes he had on. Then she turned back to look at him, her eyes sparkling with the love she had for him.
His breath caught in his throat as he watched her remove the dress she wore. She did it slowly. Watching his eyes as they followed the movement of her hands. She stood up and removed the dress, letting it pool at her feet and then pushing down her lace panties to join the dress. Stepping out of her clothes, she moved to straddle his waist.
Max allowed his eyes to travel the length of her body, loving the way her skin glowed in the moonlight. She’d only been wearing panties under the dress and nothing else. Sometimes she did things like this just because she knew it turned him on.
He looked back up into her eyes as she rose to her knees over him. She smiled down at him and said, “I love you, Max,” right before she impaled herself on him.
Max gritted his teeth and wrapped his fingers around her hips as he reveled in the feel of her tightness surrounding him. He watched as Liz tilted her head back in pleasure as she began to slowly ride him.
Liz moaned and picked up the pace of their lovemaking. She curled her fingers around Max’s wrists, using that and her knees to add leverage to her movements.
She cried out when Max began thrusting his hips up, meeting her downward movements. Leaning over him, she took his lips in hers once more and used her hands against his chest to help speed up her ride.
Max growled into her mouth as he felt her walls tightening even more around him even while she picked up the pace.
Panting, Liz lifted her mouth from his and once more she whispered breathlessly against his lips, “God, I love you.”
Max shut his eyes as the sound of her voice made him shutter in bliss, a moment before he felt the sharp pain against his neck. That was quickly followed by the intense pleasure that always came when she fed from him. He gripped her hips as she continued to suck his blood, in time to the movements of her hips.
When her voice sounded in his head with the usual words, I love you, it was more than enough to send him over the edge.
Liz heard Max’s shout of her name as she felt his body release itself into hers. She continued to feed from him as she rode him, drawing out his pleasure until she was certain he was finished. Only then did she remove her teeth from his neck and slid her tongue over his wounds to close them.
She felt his body shudder beneath hers and smiled in satisfaction as she nibbled his neck for a few more moments. Slowly she sat up and looked down at him.
His eyes were at half mast and still a dark molten gold. Not only that, but his fangs were out, resting against his bottom lip. She could feel his chest rising and falling rapidly beneath her hands.
Liz took one of his hands in hers and lifted it to her mouth. Her eyes trained on his, she lifted his index finger and sucked it into her mouth.
Max moaned as she swirled her tongue around his finger before sucking on it again. Instantly he was hard and watched the sparkle in her eyes as she felt him inside of her. She slid his finger out of her mouth with a pop and tapped it with her free hand, letting him know what she wanted.
When Max had made his nail lengthen like she’d indicated, Liz lowered it to her breast and slid his nail over the skin, just above her nipple.
Max hissed at the sight of the thin line of blood that appeared on her skin and ran his tongue over his teeth in anticipation.
Liz leaned over him, stretching up to offer her breast to his mouth. As Max closed his mouth over his feast, Liz began to ride him once more.
She gasped as Max’s fangs sank into her skin and when the pleasure began to spread through her body, she lost herself to it.
Max rolled them over until Liz was beneath him, knowing she was losing herself in the pleasure his body was giving hers. As he leaned over her, thrusting his hips into hers in time with the suckling of her breast, he whispered into her mind, I love you too, Liz.
With a scream, Liz came apart in his arms. She opened her eyes wide and stared up at the sky as she felt herself exploding into a million pieces, Max’s name on her lips.
Even as he slowed his movements, swirling his tongue over her wound and her nipple, she continued to mumble his name. He lifted his head to look down into her eyes, feeling her wrap her legs around his.
Liz lifted her hips to meet his, telling him she wanted more. Raising up to his elbows, he obliged her, deepening his thrusts and watching as the pleasure rippled over her features. Liz gripped his shoulders, arching her body up to meet his.
When she threw her head back, shouting, “S‘agapo, Max” he felt her orgasm and followed her over the edge with his own.
“Yes! S‘agapo!” he groaned as he emptied himself inside of her once more.
Liz held him as he began to relax against her body. She opened her eyes as she realized the cushions felt different beneath her.
As she looked around the bedroom, Max shifted over her, rolling onto his side, he drew her into his arms. He reached up to caress her cheek, looking deep into her eyes.
She pouted, “I thought we could spend a little more time in that room before we came to bed.”
He kissed the tip of her nose, “You made your point, agapo mou. I know how you feel.” He sighed and lowered his forehead to hers, “It still doesn’t keep me from being afraid of losing you. That will always be a part of me regardless.”
As Liz opened her mouth to protest, Max placed a finger over her lips, “I just need some time Liz. To get used to the idea of converting you. Just give me some time to deal with my feelings and when I’m ready I’ll do it. You know I will. I can’t live without you, moro. Please, give me time.”
Liz sighed and nodded slowly, “Okay, Max.”
He gave her a grateful smile before settling them underneath the covers.
As Liz wrapped her arms around him, settling in to sleep, she whispered once more, “S’agapo.”
Max fell asleep with a smile on his face and her words echoing in his ears.

Hi guys, I'm sorry, I was without my laptop for 9 days! 9! Oh I was suffering major withdrawls. I let my brother borrow it since he still doesn't have his internet reconnected and managed to sneak in to 'borrow' my own laptop to read a couple of stories and check out your feedback. Needless to say, I wasn't able to get this part done and posted in time. But it is finally here. :P
A thought occurred to me as I read some of the feedback: I believe it was Rath who said (on the show) Alien sex was awesome. Hmmm....along those lines, what about vampire sex? LIZ: "Hell yeah baby, sign me up!!!!" :P

Anyway,
Emz-

W.C.- I don't think anyone, except Max will ever realize just how dependent he is on Liz.

La'Shon- I thought so too.  , art imitating real life, huh? We'll see how she changes...soon. Awww.... Glad you like those scenes. I always love reading really, really good love scenes myself. And thanks, I certainly missed being able to write and post this story too.

Strawberry- Thanks.

MinY- Like I said before, to each his/her own. Liz may change... You still might... yes I thought of that movie too! To quote you: I should have expressed myself more clearly too. Either I had assumed everyone got it or I thought I'd written it differently. Anyway,
-males are also being used
-most of the humans are willing participants
-Max is still not tame
-Max told Liz about his businesses, he doesn't lie to her.
-there's more to the Syllogos club that I apparently left out.
-Max never used a human, these were all offerings to him and as Michael said in the beginning he told her what Max was and that's why that woman acted the way she did when Max rejected her.
(I just know I''m still not explaining this well enough. Oh well, that's why I'm writing here and not professionally. )

francesca- thanks

confused- thanks

candy- True. (Come on, admit it. If you had a man that looked like that, who was willing to give you all those powers, make you immortal, and give you all the things you ever coveted, wouldn't you be impatient too? ) A charm it was!

LJL- Here's what happens next.

roswell- Um, well, he's gonna try...

BehrObsession- I know, six years! 6!

Zanity- Thanks. #1 is what I had tried to get across, guess I wasn't THAT clear. And #2 is also right, except it happens to guys too. I agree, 317 years w/o finishing is a VERY long time. Hmm...

Becca- thanks.

Part 12

Liz smiled as she got the umpteenth compliment about the party for the night. She felt Max’s arm squeeze her waist gently, letting her know how proud he was of her even while she heard his voice, “Yes, she did a wonderful job didn’t she?”
The man nodded, “She did. You must be extremely pleased with your isyzygos, Maximillian.”
“Oh, I’m always pleased with Elizabeth.” Max leaned over and placed a kiss on her cheek as he continued, “She amazes me every moment of every day.”
“Thank you both.” Liz tried not to blush at the compliments her husband was constantly heaping on her. Instead, she focused on being the perfect hostess, making sure everyone was having a good time.
“Excuse me, Mrs. Evans?”
Liz turned to acknowledge the young man who called her name. “Yes, Andrew?”
“Pardon me, Kyria, but Ms. Malloy would like to speak to you for a few moments, she says it’s important.”
Liz nodded, then turned to the group, “If you’ll all excuse me,” she kissed Max on the cheek, “enjoy yourselves ladies and gentlemen.”
Max released his arm from around Liz’s waist and watched as she followed the young waiter into the house to talk to the woman in charge of the staff of the night. Not too far away from Liz were the ever constant guards which Max insisted Liz have for the party even though it was on his property.
Liz had balked at the idea of walking around with two shadows during the party, but Max had convinced her of it. Liz had agreed that it made sense because you never knew when one of the dates of a guest or one of the hired help would turn on you. Liz had heard one too many stories from Max, Isabel, and Alex about an enemy in the midst of friends. No matter how well the guest list and workers were checked out and cleared, there was always room for error.
So Liz agreed to walk around the party with her escorts. She was already used to having an entourage around every time she and Max left the house and its grounds. The fact that Max had his own personal guards made Liz realize just how dangerous it could get.
Max was a well known fighter. He was one that no enemy relished meeting face to face, so it was safe to assume his enemies would try the easier way to take him down. Either do it when he wasn’t looking or go for his heart.

Isabel and Liz both laughed as they listened to Alex joking about the early days of knowing Max Evans. As usual, Liz never tired of hearing about her husband’s life as a young vampire. Even though Alex was still a member of the Euphranor coven at that time, he was already close to Max through his liaison with Isabel.
Liz grinned at Alex, “I really hope you’re telling the truth, Alex! Max will be highly upset if you’re just making us laugh at his expense.”
Alex rolled his eyes, “Liz, it’s me. Have you ever known me to tell a lie?”
She giggled, “Right. Okay, that’s too funny.”
Isabel nodded, “Yes, it is. And it’s true too. I remember it now, well, I remember the scolding he got from our father after it happened.”
Liz’s eyes went wide, “Really? So was he punished?”
Isabel quirked an eyebrow, “Are you asking because you really want to know or…”
“Oh come on Isabel.”
She laughed, “Yes. He was grounded, confined to his room for a week. Needless to say, he never did it again.”
Liz sighed, “How did I know you were going to say that?”
“Speaking of my adelfos, were is he anyway?”
Liz inclined her head towards the windows of the meeting room on the second floor, “He’s having an informal meeting with several of our guests concerning some business contracts they have with him.”
Isabel sighed, “He’s always working isn’t he? Even when he goes out to a party, he’s still working.”
Liz nodded, “Of course. Did you really think all these parties were simply for fun? Really Isabel, you’ve been a ruling member of a coven for how long now?”
“I’m not a ruling member, Liz. Sure, I’m the adelfi of the Aristomache Archigos, but that doesn’t make me a ruler. You on the other hand, will have lots of power.”
Liz sighed and rolled her eyes, “Yeah, someday, we think.”
Isabel gave Liz’s arm a light squeeze, “It’ll happen Liz.”
Liz nodded before turning to Alex, “So, do you miss home at all Mr. Whitman?”
Alex shrugged, “Sometimes I do, but then I hear my two favorite females voices and all is right in my world.”
Liz laughed as Isabel slid her arm around Alex’s waist, “Well, you certainly do know how to spoil us you know.”
Alex grinned, “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Isabel huffed, “I would.”
“Izzy, she’s just growing up. Give her some room to breathe.”
Isabel put her hands on her hips and looked from Alex to Liz and back again, “Have you two been talking behind my back?”
Alex shook his head, “No, why?”
As Liz giggled, Isabel growled, “Because what you just said sounded suspiciously like something she said to me the other day.”
Alex smiled at Liz, “Ah, is that so?”
Liz nodded, “Yes. I told her almost the same thing.”
“Well then, I guess I knew what I was saying, huh?” he remarked as he puffed out his chest, sending Liz into peals of laughter.

Max stood at the window, his hands clasped behind his back as he stared at Liz talking to Isabel and Alex. As she smiled at something Alex said, his heart did that familiar flip and when she laughed, he wanted to laugh with her. Instead, he stood there watching her with a smile on his face.
All night long he’d been so aware of her, no matter where she was. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. She was dressed in an elegant red gown with a scoop neck and long sleeves that curved over her wrists. The dress flared out from her waist to the ground and flowed around her as she moved. Her hair was curled to perfection and shimmered in the soft lights just like her dress did.
Max couldn’t help but admire the way she always seemed to look so radiant, literally glowing from the inside. He also admired the way she was so graceful and calm throughout the entire night.
He’d watched her handle the neurotic decorator earlier that day and again right before the party had started. Both times Liz had never even broken into a sweat or raised her voice the way Isabel tended to do. Instead, she’d calmly told the decorator what she wanted and then had remained firm until the decorator realized she couldn’t persuade Liz by using dramatics or hysterics.
Even during the party Liz had been the perfect hostess. She’d greeted all the guests by name and had asked questions about their families or anything else she knew about them from previous encounters.
Max had quickly discovered how good Liz was at remembering names and personal facts about anyone she’d met before. It was one of the reasons why he tended to keep her by his side at the beginning of any of the parties since she often had to help him remember who was who and what was important about them.
Granted, he knew anything that had to do with business, but Liz was the one who knew the extra stuff. She knew the things that would make everyone feel at ease when they were around. She knew how to keep the conversations light, interesting, and lively. Liz could keep conversations from ever fading into an awkward silence.
He smiled as he saw her eyes flick up to meet his for a moment. A smile lingered in her eyes and on her lips as he heard her voice in his head, Spying on me, are you, agapo mou?
Not spying. Just admiring.
Really? Shouldn’t you be in the middle of a meeting right now?
I am, but we were taking a break.
He heard her giggle in his mind, That’s some break. I’ve felt you staring at me for the last twenty minutes.
Max grinned, Okay, so it’s a long break. Can I help it if I want to spend my time admiring you? You amaze me you know.
She winked, Yes I know.
“Kyrios, we are ready to resume our talks.”
Max looked over his shoulder at the man and nodded, “Very well.” He turned to look at Liz one last time, Well, duty calls.
Go. Be the fearless leader. Max grinned at the smile she gave him, then quickly inhaled as he felt her hug him as she said, S’agapo, Max.
S’agapo, Kyria mou.
Max turned away from the window just as Isabel began to speak to Liz. As he walked away from the window to return to his seat at the head of the table, a sound similar to a sonic blast came from outside. The force of it shattered the window and sent Max stumbling forward into one of men nearby.
Screams rent the air from outside as guards rushed in from the hallway and Max righted himself with the help of the others in the room. Whirling around, Max stared at the hole where the window had been and fear immediately took hold of his body.
“Liz…” He breathed as he willed himself to walk to the window. Looking down, he saw what he’d already known he would see.
Liz lay on the ground with Isabel and Alex leaning over her. Isabel was sobbing and holding Liz’s hand while brushing the hair out of Liz’s face. Alex had taken off his jacket and wadded it up to press against the wound in Liz’s chest.
Max roared as he tried to connect to Liz and found her just barely there. Without another thought, he leaped through the window, landing on the ground already running towards his beloved. Shoving Alex out of the way, Max leaned over Liz and looked at her wound.
Cringing at the size of the wound and the faint impression of her heart still beating among the tissue there, he whispered to her, “Moro, stay with me.” To the others he growled, “What happened?”
Alex was the one who answered since Isabel was still sobbing, “I don’t know what it was exactly, but when I heard Isabel cry out, I turned and saw what looked like a ball of fire the size of a fist slam into Liz’s chest. She must have seen it coming, but too late to get out of the way.”
Michael came running up to Max and knelt besides him, breathlessly he reported to his Archigos, “Someone saw the assassin leaving the grounds, my men are in pursuit of him right now. We’ll have him in custody before the night is over and we’ll know who did this and why.”
Max nodded his acknowledgement and leaned over Liz once more, “Elizabeth? Open your eyes, moro.”
Her eyes fluttered open and Max flinched at the pain he saw there. She coughed and blood welled up, bubbling over her lips.
A strangled cry erupted from Max as Isabel whimpered, “Max, she’s dying! She’s already lost so much blood! You have to convert her before it’s too late!”
Alex nodded, “She’s right, Max. Go on, take her and do what you have to do. Isabel and I will handle the guests and the party.”
“I’ll keep you up to date on the pursuit of the assassin.” informed Michael. At Max’s nod, Michael directed the guards who had formed a protective ring around Max and Liz. They would keep that protection until they entered the house.

hold on to me love
you know I can't stay long
all I wanted to say was i love you and I’m not afraid
can you hear me?
can you feel me in your arms?

Max gathered Liz into his arms, leaned his head against hers and whispered, “Hold on, agapo mou. Parakalo, kratao pano.”
Max heard her voice faintly in his mind, S’agapo Max. I trust you. Her eyes closed as he rose to his feet and willed them both into their underground room.
Max gently laid her down on the bed and waved his hand first to lock the door and then to turn on the candles around the room. He caressed her cheek and whispered her name once more, “Liz?”
When she didn’t respond, Max resisted the urge to cry out and listened for her heartbeat. It was still there and growing fainter with each beat. “Liz!” He commanded, “Meno meh emena!”
I’m here, Max. I’ll always be with you. Iposkhomeh.

holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

Swallowing his fear and grief, Max lifted his wrist to his mouth and bit into it before lowering it to Liz’s mouth. “Drink, agapo mou. For strength and to begin the conversion.”
As he pressed his wrist against her lips, Liz opened her mouth and allowed the blood to flow down her throat. She began to swallow on her own as the strength slowly came back to her. Max only gave her enough to keep her alive for the conversion then removed his wrist from her mouth.
Sitting back on his haunches, Max began to undress himself. His eyes never left Liz, watching her still struggling to stay alive. Once he was undressed, he leaned over her and began removing her clothes.

I’ll miss the winter
a world of fragile things
look for me in the white forest
hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
i know you hear me
i can taste it in your tears

Tears blurred his vision as he removed the dress from her and saw the extent of her wound. It was deep enough to nearly expose her heart. He could see it beating, even as the tissue around it vibrated with her labored breathing.
As soon as he had her undressed, he slowly laid his body over hers, trying to keep his weight from crushing her. “Liz?”
Max.
“S’agapo.”
S’agapo.
As her voice whispered in his mind, he slid into her body. Closing his eyes, he felt her trying to meet his thrusts as he began to make love to her.
Max. Came her plea, prompting him to lean down and brush his trembling lips against her pulse. Taking a deep breath, he squeezed his eyes shut tighter and bit into her neck.

holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

Max continued to drain her of her life’s blood until he felt her heart begin to stutter. Pulling his teeth out, he quickly licked the wound closed and slashed his chest right over his heart. Leaning down, he pressed the wound against her mouth and used the diatasso to get her to drink.
Liz was vaguely aware of Max’s blood flowing down her throat once more. It felt as if she were experiencing everything from a distance. She could hear his breathing, the beating of his heart, and the sound of crying.
Max threw his head back as he felt the beginning of his orgasm rippling through his body. He sobbed as he emptied himself inside of her, giving her his blood and his seed, his life. Blood red tears trickled down his cheeks as he closed his eyes, feeling her mouth slipping away from his chest.

closing your eyes to disappear
you pray your dreams will leave you here
but still you wake and know the truth
no one's there

Trembling, he lay besides her and closed his wound before gathering her into his arms. Ignoring the gaping wound in her chest, he held her close, clinging to what was left of his beloved.
Max?
His throat too constricted to talk, Max replied in kind, I’m here, agapo.
I want you to know. No matter… what happens. I will always… love you. There was a long pause before she added, Ya panda… Max.
He buried his face in her hair, holding her tightly and pleading, Come back to me, Liz.

say goodnight
don't be afraid
calling me calling me
as you fade to black

She didn’t reply. Max knew why. He felt her slip away quietly. Felt her body go still in his arms, the warmth already fading.
Michael and the guards pursued and captured the assassin, dragging him torn and bloody, yet alive to the holding warehouse, The Enchros Building.
Isabel and Alex dispersed the guests and everyone else that was involved with the party, leaving the house and grounds empty and silent.
No one was there when Liz breathed her last in Max’s arms. And Max was the only one there to hear the last beat of her heart until there was nothing save the mournful wail of a lonely Archigos.

holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light it ends here tonight

Song is Lullaby by Creed

Part 13

Silence surrounded them as Max walked through the garden towards the gazebo. He lowered his red, hazy gaze to the naked form of the woman he had loved lying peacefully in his arms. There was no breath, no beating of a heart in the ravaged chest to indicate that she still lived.

Hush my love now don't you cry
Everything will be all right
Close your eyes and drift in dream
Rest in peaceful sleep

Swallowing a fresh wave of grief, Max tore his watery gaze from her and looked up at the clearing in front of the gazebo. There, next to the steps that led up to the gazebo was a place of turned up earth. It was set before one of the hedges of white roses surrounding the gazebo, looking very much like a grave with the roses acting like a tombstone.

If there's one thing I hope I showed you
Hope I showed you

Max walked to the side of the grave and knelt down, with Liz still in his arms. Looking into the grave, he saw the silk crimson sheets lining the bottom of it. As he hugged Liz to his body, he sent a silent thanks to Isabel for preparing his beloved’s resting place.

Just give love to all

Reluctantly, Max leaned over and gently lowered Liz onto the sheets. Lovingly, he arranged her body to rest comfortably as his eyes and hands memorized her looks for the last time.

Oh my love...in my arms tight
Every day you give me life
As I drift off to your world
Will rest in peaceful sleep

She was extremely pale, her skin almost translucent and waxy. Her hair had turned dull, no longer shining as brilliantly as it once had. But the worst thing was the huge wound that took up most of her chest. It no longer bled, but it was still there showing the faint impression of a heart that no longer beat.

I know there's one thing that you showed me
That you showed me

Leaning back, Max used trembling hands to lift the edges of the sheets and began to cover her up. He tucked the sheets over her from head to toe, making sure not a single inch of her was left uncovered. Once he was certain she was wrapped up completely, he moved away from the grave and lifted his hand effortlessly shifting the earth to cover her up until she was completely buried.

Just give love to all

His hand fell limply to his side as he stared at the ground which no longer gave any evidence that there had been a grave there. The only indication was the hedge of white roses, which now had tiny beads of red moisture clinging to the petals like dew.

Let's give love to all

Max closed his eyes for a moment, saying goodbye to his heart even as a single tear left a trail of red down his cheek. The tear fell from his jaw to splash against the earth where she lay, instantly absorbed by the ground. In the next moment, Max turned his back on the area, slowly walking away and vanishing from sight.

Isabel stood in the foyer, pacing back and forth while Alex leaned with arms folded over his chest against the door leading to Max’s office. Every so often, Isabel would raise her head and look up the stairs, in the direction of the master bedroom. She could still hear the shower running and the soft husky sounds of crying.
Alex gave her an encouraging smile, “He’ll be all right, Izzy. Just let him deal with his grief in his own way. He’ll come down when he’s ready.”
She nodded, “I know. It’s just, he’s been up there for a long time now. It’s almost dawn Alex. None of us should be here.”
Alex moved away from the wall, walking to his wife, he slid his arms around her in a comforting hug, “We’ll all be okay, akribos. We’ll be okay.”

Max’s body shuddered with the sobs that rushed through it. His bloody tears were instantly washed away by the water from the shower. He sat in the corner of the stall, knees drawn up and arms wrapped around them as the grief continued to hold him tightly in its grip. He’d known it would hurt since he’d heard all about what it was like to be a syndeo from others, but to actually experience it was another thing all together.
Max had been injured plenty of times in his long life, but he’d never experienced pain like this. It felt like his heart was being ripped out and he was finding it increasingly hard to breathe. He could feel the emptiness growing inside of him, in his heart and his soul. And it was impossible to resist the urge to link his mind with hers even though he knew she wouldn’t be there.
Sitting there in the shower, he was battling with his mind, heart, and soul. They were trying to convince him she was really gone and they seemed to be winning. He tried to hold on, telling himself over and over again that she was only sleeping. She would be back, in four nights she would return to him.
He gritted his teeth, trying to convince himself that Liz would return. He needed to get a hold of himself before it was too late. He needed to get out of that shower and go deal with whoever was responsible for doing this to her. His coven still needed him. Liz needed him to be there for her when she woke up.
That thought was the one that finally snapped him out of it. Liz needed him. She would need him to be there to help her cope with the changes. His eyes narrowed as he thought about why she even had to go through this. Someone had dared to kill her. Someone had dared to take her from him.
With a growl of rage, he stood up and stepped out of the shower. He turned the shower off, dried himself off, and clothed himself all within a single thought. Without another moment of hesitation, he strode out of the room and headed for the stairs. It was time to deal with the idiot who thought he could mess with the Aristomache coven and its Archigos.

Isabel pushed Alex away as soon as she caught Max’s scent coming from the stairs. With a smile, she rushed towards her brother, “Max! I was so worried, adelfos!”
Max stepped off of the stairs and slid his hand around Isabel‘s arm, stopping her from hugging him. “I’m fine, Isabel.” He looked at Alex who stood nearby and scowled, “Alexander, isn’t it time to take your isyzygos home, before it gets too late.”
Isabel stiffened at the command she heard in Max’s voice as Alex answered with a slight nod of his head, “Of course, Kyrios. Come, Isabel, we should go home.”
Isabel didn’t move. She stood there staring at Max, her jaw hanging open in shock. “But Max, I thought…”
Max turned cold eyes on his sister, “I don’t have time for this Isabel. There are too many things I have to deal with before the dawn arrives. I thank you for your care and concern, but you should go with your osizigos and concern yourself with your home.”
Isabel opened her mouth to protest, but Alex beat her to it as he wrapped an arm around her waist, “Let it go, Isabel. Listen to your Archigos. We should return to the safety of our home before it’s too late.”
In her mind he said, Don’t push him Isabel. For all of our sakes, please, just let him deal with this his way. He needs to go after the one who did this to Liz. Just leave him be.
Defeated, Isabel allowed Alex to lead her out the front door to their car. As she settled into the seat next to Alex, she turned to frown up at the house.
Alex reached out and curled his fingers around hers, “He’ll be okay, Izzy. He’s just handling things the way he knows how to. Don’t worry about him.”
Isabel sighed as she turned to look at her husband, “How can I not worry? He’s gone so long without someone to love. And now he’s got to survive without her for a few days. You know the stories about syndeos, Alex. I know you heard him upstairs.”
“We all did, Isabel. But this is Max. If he needs us, he’ll say so. I believe he can handle it.”
“I don’t know Alex. He’s always been so secretive, except to Liz.” She turned to look out the window again, watching the house growing smaller in the distance. “She was the only one who knew the truth inside of him and what he was truly feeling.” As the house faded from view, Isabel could still see the cold look Max had worn as Alex had ushered her out of the house.

Max walked into his office where Michael stood by the desk, hands clasped behind his back. As he lowered his head respectfully, Michael said, “We have the assassin in custody, Kyrios. He’s in a holding cell in the Enchros building.”
Max nodded, “Let’s go.” Without any other warning, he disappeared from the room.
A shiver of fear ran up Michael’s back as he followed his leader.

All of the men in the room came to their feet and quickly lowered their heads the moment Max appeared, with Michael behind him.
Their Archigos ran a cold eye over every last one of them before he settled his gaze on one of them, “Ferno ena anthropinos ya trefomai.” Then he turned his head slightly to address his Dioikitis, “Meh deichno.”
Michael nodded and led him through the building to the room where the assassin was being held. The two guards who stood at the door, saluted their Archigos as Michael opened the door for Max. Inside, there was another guard near the door holding what looked like a long metal spear. The assassin was chained to the wall opposite the door.
Max walked over to the man who sat slumped over on the floor, his chained hands the only thing seeming to keep him from falling over. The man opened his eyes and looked up at Max when he neared. Immediately fear filled his eyes as he shrank back into the wall.
Max raised his lip in a snarl as Michael hissed at the man, “Finally, you show some sense!” Indicating that he hadn’t show any emotion until Max had entered.
Max raised a hand to silence Michael as he continued to glare at the assassin. He took in the man’s appearance. He already knew his men wouldn’t have been kind to whoever dared to attack their future Archiga. It was evident in the bruises, scratches, and bloody rivulets that streamed down his body onto the ground and towards the drain in the center of the room.
Leaning forward, Max growled, “Why were you at my party?”
The man swallowed visibly before he said, “I wasn’t at your party.”
Michael hissed again, “One of our guests who arrived late identified you as the one who hurled that fireball.” He turned to Max and said, “Lance said one moment there was nothing there and the next there was a man hovering just above the fence throwing the fireball towards the party. We brought Lance here and he verified that this is the one.”
The man paled at Michael’s information, prompting Max to grab a fistful of his hair. Yanking the man’s head back, Max hissed, “It would be wise to answer my questions with the truth and quickly. You know there are many other, painful ways I can get the answers from you!”
“Yes Kyrios,” The man whimpered in submission.
“Why were you at my party?”
“I was sent there to kill someone.”
“Who?”
The man swallowed, “The Kyria Elizabeth Evans.”
Max’s eyes narrowed, “Who sent you?”
“I don’t know.”
Max lifted his other hand and gripped his throat, sinking claws into skin, “Who sent you!” He demanded.
The man curled his fingers around Max’s wrist, grimacing against the pain. “I don’t know who it was. I swear. All I know is that we were a group of five. The other four were to combine their powers to hide me from sight and to make sure the weapon hit its target. I was just supposed to get close enough to release it.”
Michael’s eyes went wide, “You were just the messenger!”
“Yes. We were told that the only way to defeat Archigos Maximillian was to go for his heart and soul.”
“Who told you this?” growled Max.
“One of the guys in the group. He was the mouthpiece of the one who set this up. He was the one who recruited the rest of us. He gave us the instructions on how to make the weapon and the plans to use it when he got them from the leader.”
“You aren’t from a coven?” asked Michael. He and the others had assumed this attack had come from another coven who wanted to get rid of the powerful Aristomache coven.
“No, we are all renegades from various covens. We were recruited by the mouthpiece.”
Max stood up and asked, “Is the leader a renegade too?”
The assassin leaned back against the wall and weakly shook his head, “I don’t know. I don’t even know the name of the leader.”
“Where are the other four?” asked Max.
“I don’t know. We always met at this abandoned mine outside of the city when a message appeared at our door, but we never saw each other outside of the place.”
Max turned to Michael, eyes narrowed, “He knows what they look like. All except for the leader. Get their images from him and send the men to find them. I want orders for them to be brought here alive. Once we have the mouthpiece, we might be able to find out more about this leader.”
Michael nodded, “And what shall I do with this one?”
Max growled, “Get the information, then get rid of him. He’s useless to us now.”
The man’s eyes went wide, “Okhi! Parakalo! Idios zito esi, Kyrios mou, Idios boro imeh chrisimos mechri esi. Da desmefsi pisti mechri esi. Parakalo!” He struggled against the chains that held him as Max turned away from him and left the room, ignoring his pleas.
Michael grabbed his shoulders and lifted him up. He leaned the man against the wall and exposed his neck, whispering menacingly, “You tried to kill his syndeo. There is no forgiveness for that crime.”
The man cried out as Michael sunk his teeth into his neck, drinking deep and closing his eyes as the images of the four men swam into view. Michael committed the images of those men to memory before he pulled away from the assassin and allowed him to slide down the wall.
With a whimper, the man looked up at the Dioikitis and whispered, “Parakalo.”
Without a word, the Dioikitis lifted his palm and set it against the man’s head. As a scream echoed around the room, the body instantly turned to ash, incinerated from the inside out.

As Max walked into the office at the front of the building, the two men waiting there lowered their heads. One of them spoke, “Ena anthropinos, Kyrios mou.” He said, indicating a man sitting on the couch behind them.
Max nodded, “Afino mas!”
The two men quickly left the office, shutting the door behind them. Max walked towards the human male who sat on the couch.
The human swallowed as the vampire sat next to him. This wasn’t the first time he had volunteered to be a meal for a vampire, but this one seemed colder than all the rest, more dangerous. He couldn’t even meet the vampire’s eyes as they sat there, but he could feel the path the eyes took as they appraised him. He could feel the gaze settle on his neck.
Max was aware of the human male’s discomfort. He could smell the fear that rose from him. Good, he thought to himself, even the humans should fear me.
When the human swallowed again, Max shifted his gaze to his neck, where the jugular vein was just visible under his skin. He stared at it a moment, watching it throb, the pace quickening as the anxiety rose in the human.
The human stiffened as he felt cold fingers wrap around his neck, caressing his skin. In an unbreakable grip, the hand gently tugged him towards the waiting vampire. He could feel the vampire’s breath against his skin as he bent his head to his neck. He closed his eyes in anticipation of the bite.
Max took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of fresh blood. Without another word, he opened his mouth and sank his fangs into the human’s neck.
As Max drank his fill, the human’s head fell back against the couch with a moan. Max wanted to rip deeper, wanted someone else to suffer for the pain and rage that continued to churn through his mind and body. It was instinctual, the need to hunt and kill, but he kept his hold on his sanity. Thoughts of Liz and of the fact that it could have been her he was feeding from kept him from going over the edge into madness.
He knew better than to let the human suffer for something he had nothing to do with. It wasn’t the human’s fault that one of Max’s kind had tried to kill his syndeo. So, he reigned his anger in and just took what he needed before pulling away and closing the wound on the human’s neck with his tongue.
The man sighed in contentment as Max settled him comfortably against the couch. Then Max stood up and licked his lips, feeling the blood nourishing his body. He turned away from the man, who was now dosing off with a smile on his face and walked to the door. Throwing it open, he glanced at his men who waited there, “Ton plirono keh ton pairno piso.”
The men nodded and went to do their Archigos bidding as he strode from the building and vanished from sight.

Max stood in the center of his bedroom and looked around. The room had been cleaned in his absence. Gone was any evidence that he and Liz had been in the bed only hours ago. He couldn’t even smell the scent of her blood that had dripped onto the silk sheets from her wound.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to find any scent of her left behind. He walked over to the dresser and ran his fingers over the trinkets that belonged to Liz. Several of them had been from her life before him. There were others from that life spread throughout the house wherever Liz had deemed they fit.
He picked up the photo album she had in the room and began leafing through the pages. Smiling as he gazed at photos of Liz as a little girl, posing with others she’d known throughout her life. Most of them were photos of just her or her and her parents.
His eyes went wide when he got towards the back of the album. There, unbeknownst to him were more recent photos of her. These photos even included him with Liz, both of them unaware that there was even a camera focused on them. His throat tightened as he realized Isabel had probably volunteered to take these pictures for Liz so that she could add them to the album.
He’d always known Liz loved taking pictures, just as much as she loved being in them. Max had been more reluctant to have his photograph taken, but had done a couple when Liz’s begging had gotten to him. What he hadn’t realized was that Liz had found a way to get photos of them together without him knowing about it. She knew that these would be the photos where he’d appear the most relaxed since he was unaware of it.
He shut the book and set it back on the dresser before walking to a chair near the fireplace. As he sat down, he leaned back and caught a whiff of Liz’s scent. Turning his head, he saw the throw that she always kept draped over the back of the chair. She would often settle the throw over her legs when she curled up in the chair during the winter months or when she was cold.
He took the throw in his hands and buried his face in it, inhaling her scent. He sat there for a while, just breathing and remembering the things she did that had made her so human. Things like keeping some things from her life before him. Like keeping photo albums. Like trying to keep warm. Like loving him unconditionally.
Once more tears began to prickle under his eyelids. Swallowing, he stood up and walked to the bed. Curling into a fetal position, he pulled the throw over himself, covering his body in Liz’s scent. Closing his eyes, he brought up an image of her. She was laughing at something. Her eyes lighted up with mirth and the smile that spread over her face was the one that always made his heart flip.
His lips trembled as a whispered word slipped past them, “Liz.” Oh how he missed her already. He wished she was really there, really smiling at him.
Gripping the throw tighter in his hand, he pressed it against his face as the tears fell unchecked once more. Sobbing, he allowed himself to finally fully grieve the loss of his human syndeo.

I know. LOL. We had a thunderstorm today and I was at my brother's place which lost electricity for a while, so I couldn't get this part done in time. Still, it's here. It's slightly shorter than the others. Still, I hope you like and won't want to throw BUNNIES at me.

Ashley- They probably did it mostly for money or greed. They also thought the leader would be more powerful than Max. You'll understand more later. Thanks.
No, Max isn't the only one, he's just the most powerful vampire. If you recall from the beginning of the story, Max ordered Michael to get Alex to erase the human female's memory because that is Alex's strong gift. Michael's gifts tend to be 'fighting' ones like incinerating other vamps and decapitating limbs with a swipe of his claws, you get the picture. As Archigos, Max has honed his powers to excel at any given power, that's what makes him one of the most feared Archigos around  .
Three more days huh?

Zanity- Thanks. Here's Max....still coping  . And everything you pointed out in your second post about vamps is true in my story, except that I believe vamps only feed from other vamps if they are trying to 'read' information or if they are with their mates. Hence the reason Max said he'd feed Liz  .

BehrObsession- Yes they do  .

M in Y- Never! ~insert evil laughter here~
If vamps didn't have sex, how would they ever find their mate? For them, sex is like dating to us  .
See Zanity's last post and my comments to her above.
Okay, the Liz wrapped in red silk instead of against the ground was a liberty taken by me. LOL. I liked the image of her wrapped in red silk muuuuuch better than covered in dirt with THAT wound....yech! :P

Strawberry- Aww...

La'Shon- . Isabel is a great sister isn't she? , quickly? I'm a few hours late, but here it is.

candy- Aww... quickly, huh?  I understand.

Shattered- Aww... Yep  .

pandas- Hmm...soon.

Laira- Thanks. Aww...expect more 'lack' here. . Then go read more bunnies  .

roswell- Oh, he will  .

Em- Oh yeah  .

sonii- Oh yeah  . You're welcome.

Okay, remember....no throwing things...

Part 14

Max paced the confines of his room, every now and then stopping in front of the computer to gaze at the screen. Sleep had eluded him for most of the day. Grief and worry over Liz having dogged him for all those hours trapped alone in his room. He had finally given up trying to get any sleep at all and decided to try to get some work done.
But even that hadn’t worked. Unable to focus on his work because he couldn’t stop thinking of Liz, he’d gotten frustrated and had begun to pace the room feeling like a caged tiger. As he walked in front of the computer again, he stopped and glared at the screen, growling softly in his throat.
He’d been trying to find out if there had been any luck finding the four men who had formed the group of assassins, but no such luck. Michael had drawn sketches of the men and sent the photos out through the web to the other covens. He had also faxed the photos to the local human police who knew about the vampire race and secretly helped them to police it.
So far, they had only gotten word that everyone was on the lookout now, but no one recognized the four men. Growling once more in frustration, he went back to pacing the room, cursing the fact that he still had a couple of more hours to go before he could get out of his cage.

Isabel stood framed in the doorway of the domatio ilios staring at the back of her adelfos. She hesitated, wondering if she should try to talk to him this time, or would he just set her aside like he’d done the night before?
She watched as his shoulders seemed to fall slightly and he tipped his head forward, leaning it against the window. She frowned at the forlorn picture he made standing there silently moping.
After a moment, he lifted his head and sighed, “You going to stand there and bore holes into my back all night, adelfi?”
Isabel grimaced as she realized her brother was still extremely aware of everything around him. He had known she’d been there all along.
Slowly she walked into the room, “I just came to see if you needed anything. If you needed a hand with things here.”
Max didn’t turn around as he spoke, “No you didn’t. You came to check up on me. I’m a big boy now Isabel. I can take care of myself.”
Isabel came to stand at his side as he finished and looked at his profile. His eyes were sad as he continued to stare out of the window. She could tell he was seeing far beyond the garden, to the place where his syndeo was buried.
“I know you are Max, but…”
Max sighed, turning his sad eyes to hers, “What if she changes? What if I don’t recognize her at all?”
A lump formed in her throat at the way his voice suddenly sounded like a lost little boy. It was a voice she hadn’t heard in centuries, one she’d never thought to hear again.
“You’ll recognize her, Max. Liz will still be the same woman you knew before. I know it.”
Max shook his head, “You don’t know that, Izzy.”
“Max…”
“None of us know it.” He closed his eyes for a moment as he continued, “She promised me that she would always love me. Before she… left. She promised me. We had talked about it before. About the other ones who changed. And she said she would still love me. That she wouldn’t change like they did.”
“She’s right, Max.”
“What if she does?” Before Isabel could say anything else, Max added, “None of us can know what will happen, Iz. Not even Liz could have known what she would be like once she wakes up.”
“There may be some differences, but I don’t think she won’t love you. That’s just not something you can turn off Max. Think about it. Every human that was converted, came to our side with their memories of their previous human life intact. Nothing was altered. So Liz will wake remembering everything. She will remember you. And she will remember her love for you.”
Max shrugged, “Dessa remembered her life, and still she turned on Bedros.”
Isabel frowned, “Liz is your omologia, your syndeo. She doesn’t have any more choice than you do!”
“Again, so did Dessa and Bedros.”
“God, Max! Liz isn’t Dessa. You know how she felt about you! For the last six years I’ve had to listen to her go on and on about how wonderful you’ve been to her. How she felt the two of you were really meant for each other despite the fact you were so hard on her when she first came here. She forgave you Max. She forgave you for ripping her away from her human life and thrusting her into a world she’d never known existed. There were so many times when she’d ask if she was dreaming all of this because so many things still seemed so far fetched to her. Still, because she loved you, she was stubborn enough to force her mind to wrap around the unbelievable things no human in their right mind would. Where most humans would go screaming to the police and be committed for the things they thought they saw, Liz stood strong and made herself accept it to be true.”
When Max didn’t say anything, Isabel finally added, “She believed everything about you and your world, Max. Now you have to believe in her.”
Max continued to stare out of the window for a very long time. Just when the silence was starting to get to Isabel, he nodded his head, “I know Isabel. You’re right.” He closed his eyes and sighed, “It’s just so hard to believe when I need her so much. I’m so terrified that when she wakes up, my whole world will be destroyed if she doesn’t love me the way she used to.”
Isabel laid one hand on her brother’s shoulder and gave it a comforting squeeze, “She’ll still love you Max. There will never be anyone else for you. Or for her.”
He turned to look into his sister’s eyes. Isabel gave him a reassuring smile and Max returned it for a moment. Then he turned his head towards the doorway, his smile quickly replaced by his business face.
Isabel stepped away from him just as Michael appeared in the doorway. As Max made his way to the door, Michael spoke, “Good news, Kyrios. We found three of the assassins. Two are already at the Enchros building and the third is being transported there as we speak.”
Max nodded, “Go and begin the interrogations. I’ll be there shortly.”
Michael nodded and left the room.
Max turned to look at his sister once more, “Thanks, Isabel.”
She smiled, “I’m here if you need me Max. If you need to talk again, just say the word and I’ll be here.”
Isabel watched as her brother turned away from her without another word and disappeared from the room.

Growls of rage met Max’s ears as he strode through the hallway towards the holding cells. Those growls told him his Dioikitis was doing exactly what he’d ordered him to do. He followed the growls and walked into the cell when the guards opened the doors for him.
Inside, Michael stood with his arms folded in front of his chest watching as a man who held a long metal spear prodding the man chained to the wall. Every time the spear touched flesh, electricity cackled and sizzled instantly turning whatever it touched to black. The smell of burnt flesh and blood permeated the air as the chained one howled and strained against his bonds. He kept snapping and trying to attack Michael and the one punishing him with the spear.
He turned maddened red eyes towards Max as he walked to Michael’s side.
Ignoring the prisoner for the moment, Max addressed his Dioikitis, “The mouthpiece?”
Michael shook his head, a look of disgust on his face, “No. None of the three we have are the mouthpiece. However, we’ve found out some other interesting news.”
Max turned his gaze to the prisoner, “Like?”
“Like, the leader may be from a coven.”
As Max snapped his gaze back to Michael, the prisoner hissed, “Trey is lying! He’ll say anything to gain his release!”
Max frowned, “Which coven?”
“That we don’t know yet, but we’ve been told that the mouthpiece knows which coven he’s from.”
Once more the prisoner growled, “We know nothing! We only know what we were told to do!”
Michael growled at him, “Be silent, fool!”
Max turned to look at the prisoner for a moment, his narrowed gaze taking in his appearance. Slowly, he walked towards the prisoner, his demeanor that of a man who knew he was powerful.
As Max got close enough, the man ignored the fact that he was chained and launched himself at Max. In mid-leap, Max caught him by the throat and slammed him back against the wall. With a roar, Max dug his claws into the man’s neck, instantly silencing him.
With wide eyes, the man stared up at Max, terror on his face.
Max hissed, “The fact that you are adamantly insisting that he’s lying tells me you have something to hide.” He sunk his claws deeper into his flesh, “And you will now tell me everything.”
The man whimpered as Max leaned down and sank his teeth into his neck, tearing through flesh and drinking deep. Max didn’t bother to take the pain away. Instead, he continued to burrow his teeth deeper, increasing the pain as the images began to filter through his mind.
It was there that he saw the face of the mouthpiece as he told the others what the leader had told him. It was there that he learned just how long the leader had been planning on building this weapon and trying to find a way to get rid of Max, the Archigos of the Aristomache coven. He’d been planning this long before the assassin group had been formed, patiently biding his time.
Then, once the group had been formed and the weapon had been completed, the focus had been on trying to find a way to use the weapon on Max. Their biggest break came when the news broke that Max was no longer single. Maximillian Evans had a syndeo. And that was their way in. All they had to do was find a way to destroy her and Max would follow. So, they watched and realized the best time would be when Liz was out in the open.
They practiced combining their powers to cloak the messenger and weapon so that they could get them close enough to the target. They also practiced on combining their powers to guide the weapon towards the intended target. Their mistake had been in focusing on one or the other, rather than doing both at the same time.
With a hiss of disgust, Max yanked his teeth from the man’s neck, ripping the flesh more. He glared at the man as he moaned and sank to his knees, held up by his chained wrists.
Michael looked at his Archigos as he growled, “Find the mouthpiece! He’s the only one who knows what the leader looks like. The other wasn’t lying. The leader has been planning the weapon and my death long before I claimed my syndeo. When I did, the group used their powers to cloak the messenger and weapon, then they used them to guide the weapon.”
Michael’s eyes went wide as he too realized their mistake, “They could only focus on one at a time.”
Max nodded, “Yes. Once he was within striking distance, they focused on guiding the weapon towards Liz.”
“And stopped focusing on cloaking the messenger, leaving him in plain view of anyone who was nearby.” Michael finished. “Like Lance.”
Max turned to look at Michael, “We were fortunate that Lance arrived late and was able to identify the messenger. Otherwise, they may have gotten away alive.”
Michael nodded, “I will tighten the search for the mouthpiece.”
Max nodded as he moved to stand over the prisoner. As the man’s eyes lifted Max hissed, “For daring to kill the Archiga of the Aristomache coven, I commit you to death.”
The man’s eyes narrowed in hatred as Max set his palm against his forehead, “You can kill me, but you won’t win. He hates you more than the rest of us. He will kill you and your syndeo. He will drain you both and destroy your precious coven.”
Michael and the other guards howled in outrage as Max silently pressed his palm harder against his forehead and incinerated him. Cries of tortured pain echoed around the room as the man slowly burned. Flesh melted and fell from bone, turning to ash that floated in the air. Then even the bone melted to ash until there was nothing left save the howls of fear from the other prisoners.
Max finally lowered his hand and turned cold eyes to his Dioikitis, “thiavazo to thio alos keh skotono toos. Vrisko to komati to stoma!”
Michael nodded and began barking orders to the others as Max vanished from sight, leaving his men behind to follow his orders.

Max growled as he paced back and forth in front of the windows in the domatio ilios. He’d come to this room directly from the Enchros building and had proceeded to pace in anger at what he’d read from the assassin’s mind. How dare they think they could succeed in defeating him and his coven. How dare they try!
The angry last words of the assassin still rang in his ears as he continued to wear a groove in the carpet. You can kill me, but you won’t win. He hates you more than the rest of us. He will kill you and your syndeo. He will drain you both and destroy your precious coven.
Max wanted to know just who this person was that seemed to hate him so much. Why would he want the Aristomache coven destroyed.
He growled in frustration. Pacing the length of the room wasn’t getting him any answers, but so far, the only way to find them seemed to be in getting a hold of the mouthpiece. However, this man seemed to be extremely good at hiding since no one had seen him yet. Michael had sketched and posted his picture along with the other three, but there was still no word on him.
This was taking too long! He wanted this mouthpiece found so that he could find out who the leader was and deal with him before he could cause any harm to his coven or him. Most of all, he wanted it dealt with before Liz returned. He knew that was the thing that had him frustrated and worried the most.
As long as the leader remained unknown and free, there was still a chance that he could hurt Liz again and Max couldn’t bear that. He curled his hands into fists as he whirled around to glare out of the windows. His gaze narrowed as he tried to see beyond the gardens to the gazebo.
Taking deep breaths, Max focused on the gazebo and the place he knew Liz was buried. Closing his eyes, he called up the image of her smiling at him. That succeeded in calming him. It also succeeded in bringing tears to his eyes.
In the space of a heartbeat, Max went from boiling anger to lonely sadness. His breathing changed from the rapid breaths of anger to the staccato breaths of tears.

Give me a reason to believe that you're gone
I see your shadow so I know they're all wrong
Moonlight on the soft brown earth
It leads me to where you lay
They took you away from me but now I'm taking you home

Unable to deal with his yo-yoing emotions, he threw his head back and howled. The sound not unlike an animal in pain, carried throughout the mostly empty house.

I will stay forever here with you
My love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on

Max fell to his knees, looking out of the windows once more as blood tears raced down his cheeks to splash against the carpet.

Some say I'm crazy for my love, Oh my love
But no bonds can hold me from your side, Oh my love
They don't know you can't leave me
They don't hear you singing to me

As he let the pain wash over him, Max was unaware of the way his claws furrowed into the carpet, shredding it completely. All he could do was sit and stare out the windows, his gaze becoming a hazy red as the tears continued to fall freely.

I will stay forever here with you
My love
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death our love goes on

He couldn’t stop the pain from shredding his heart, the way his claws were shredding the carpet. He couldn’t stop the sobbing cries that escaped his lips, echoing throughout the house.

And I can't love you, anymore than I do

No one was around to comfort him in his pain. No one was there to tell him it would all be all right. She wasn’t there to let him see that she survived. She wasn’t there to reassure him that she would love him forever.

People die, but real love is forever.

He stayed there, lost in his pain and grief, waiting. Waiting until the first rays of dawn sent him fleeing for shelter from certain death.

Arrgh! Writing this part has taken me longer than I thought! I actually had free time earlier this week, so I'd thought to have it posted sooner, but the fight scene really tied me up! I had to finally whip out my burned CD of 'angry' alternative music to inspire me to write it. Thankfully I got it done in time to post it on the normal posting day of Saturday, so here it is, but first...

Zanity- Hee hee, got it planned already, so you'll see.

La'Shon- wait 'til you read this part. You are very welcome  . You're right about Max's powers and Liz's grave, but that won't happen  . I know you do and I hope I don't disappoint with this part  .

candy- Aww... um, two :? ? you'll see.

strawberry- Thanks :D

roswell- Well...

dmb- Aw, thanks  . Oh, and about Liz's grave guard...

Laira- good question, maybe they have 'powers' to clean the carpet or Max DOES have entirely too much money, so they simply keep replacing the carpet  . It's not a greenhouse room, it's just a room made of mostly windows, nothing more. Liz likes it because it gives her the illusion of space, she goes there when she's feeling 'crowded in'.

sonii- Yep :D

BehrObsession- True, but we'll see.

Shattered- Hee hee, we'll see  .

Shiesty- here ya go!

Becca-You'll know after this part  .

Okay, here it is...

Part 15

Once more Isabel ignored the warnings of her osizigos and made her way through the garden towards the clearing before the gazebo. She knew that was where she would find her adelfos. Max had taken to sitting next to Liz’s grave for the last two nights.
After returning to his room the morning before last, Max had tried to get some sleep since the last time he had slept well was before Liz’s death. He’d only managed to sleep sporadically, so he’d given up once more and spent most of the daylight hours either pacing or working on the computer. It had been the same this last morning too.
When the sun had set the night before, he’d immediately gone to work, trying to find out more about this mouthpiece and trying to find some sort of clue to his whereabouts. However, his frustration grew with every dead end and wrong turn he’d encountered until his temper had finally gotten the better of him. So, when he realized he was snapping at his men and nearly decapitating some of them, he’d allowed Michael to continue working and he’d retreated to Liz’s gravesite.
When the sun had set once more, he hadn’t even bothered to join the men in their hunt. Instead, he’d simply informed Michael to contact him if anything happened and had immediately gone back to keep vigil at Liz’s gravesite.

Max sat in silence, just staring at the ground where Liz lay. He tried not to think about the fact that he would be waking her up the following night while her killer was still on the loose. There was still no sign of either the mouthpiece or the leader and it troubled him deeply.
He had wanted to awaken her without worrying about her safety. He’d wanted to focus only on what she would be like when she returned to him. Instead, he was going to be torn between worry about finding her killers and worry about her feelings for him.
He closed his eyes and prayed for the umpteenth time for his syndeo to be as she was before. He knew he’d never survive if Liz didn’t love him anymore. He tried to think of the good times he and Liz had shared, hoping that somehow it would lighten his mood. He should have known better. Once more he felt his throat go dry and his chest tightened, as he thought about his beloved.
Just as the tears began to prick his eyes, his thoughts turned to the reason she was lying buried in the ground in the first place. Because of him. Because someone wanted him dead. And whoever it was wanted the Aristomache coven destroyed too. He growled low in his throat as he thought about who could have dared try to defeat him.
It was someone from another coven. He knew that, but he didn’t know which coven and why. He wondered if the coven that the leader belonged to even had anything to do with the assassination attempt. Did they even know? So many questions ran through his mind as he sat there. But most of all, he wanted to know who hated him so much to want him dead.

Isabel walked into the clearing, eyes immediately landing on Max, sitting by the grave. He didn’t acknowledge her, didn’t look up at all. Instead he continued to stare at the ground. Isabel frowned. She really didn’t think it was helping Max to keep mourning Liz. She had hoped that their talk the other night would have snapped him out of it, but Max continued to pine for Liz. Isabel just knew Max still thought Liz wouldn’t have any feelings for him anymore. She knew he still believed Liz would wake up and want nothing to do with him.
Sighing, she made her way to his side and leaned over slightly. She ignored the sudden tensing of his body and spoke to him softly, “Max, why don’t you come inside? We can recline in the domatio ilios and I can get Alex and Vanessa to join us.”
“No. I’m fine where I am Isabel. You should just go be with your family.”
“I am with my family, Max.”
He sighed, “I meant your husband and daughter!”
“I’ll just tell them to come over here.”
Max growled, “Why make them come here when they are already at home?”
“Max, I just…”
He snapped his head up to glare at her, “Go home Isabel! I don’t need you to take care of me!”
“I know you’re upset…”
He interrupted once more as he sprang to his feet, “Yes, I’m upset! I’m trying to find the one responsible for this and he’s managed to elude us all! I’m angry that he has managed to threaten the longevity of my coven and has threatened to destroy me and my syndeo!”
Max continued, his voice rising with every word, “I’m furious that no amount of searching and questioning has managed to turn up any clues whatsoever! And I’m terrified that he’ll still be a threat to Liz when she wakes up! I wanted him to be dealt with before she woke up, but now I’m having to worry about keeping her safe and making sure she still remains at my side! And having you in my face constantly hovering like a mother hen is not helping to lighten my mood!” He finished with a roar, making Isabel take a few steps back.
She stared at him with wide eyes, her mouth opening and closing silently.
Max narrowed his eyes and growled, “Go home Isabel! Go home and turn your mother hen tendencies to those who give a damn!” Whirling away from her, he left her gaping after his retreating figure.

Max slammed the door to the domatio ilios and immediately began pacing. Anger and frustration roiled through him as he growled about his sister’s constant mothering. One would have thought she had more than enough to worry about with her own osizigos and teenage ko’dau instead of spending her time constantly in his face.
She knew better than to hound him like this! He was the Archigos of the Aristomache coven! If it hadn’t been for his skills of strategy and leadership, she wouldn’t have had the kind of life she was currently living. She would have perished without him to protect her and the Euphranor coven would have never taken her in for fear of retaliation. She would never have been allowed to marry Alex.
It didn’t matter if she was the oldest of the two. Max was the stronger one. He was the one who took over the role of leader and did everything he could to make himself that much more powerful than anyone else. All for the sake of his family, his coven.
How dare she think he needed her care!
There was a knock at the door before it slowly opened. Max whirled around and roared, “The door was closed for a reason! I’m not to be disturbed!”
Michael stepped into view and bowed his head, “Forgive me, my Kyrios, but you wished me to keep you informed.”
Max growled low in his throat. “This had better be important!” he snapped.
Michael nodded, “It is my Kyrios.” He lifted his head to look his Archigos in the eye. “We’ve found the mouthpiece. He’s at the Enchros building awaiting your interrogation.”
Max hissed, “Meet me there.” And vanished.

Michael appeared outside of the room which held their prisoner. It’s where he’d expected to meet Max, but instead, there were only the two guards standing outside of the door. However, their eyes kept straying towards the door, as growls, hisses, and sounds of fighting seeped through.
Michael frowned, “Why haven’t you gone in to help them contain him?”
One of the men replied hesitantly, “We were told not to interfere and to make sure no one left the room. We are to kill anyone who tries to get out.”
“What? Who told you this?”
“The Archigos.”
Michael arched an eyebrow, then walked past the guards.
As he opened the door, he was met by a bloody scene. Max and the prisoner were fighting in the middle of the room. Both of them had wounds and were breathing heavily, but even Michael understood that it didn‘t faze Max.
As his eyes took inventory of every wound on his Archigos, Michael knew none of them were very deep and would heal easily. He also knew the heavy breathing was from Max’s anger and frustration, not from exertion.
He glanced at the two guards who stood at attention just inside of the door. He knew Max must have ordered them not to interfere.
He also knew they would have if it seemed their Archigos was in any danger at all.
Looking back at Max, he watched as the prisoner feinted then lunged for Max’s left side. Max knew what was coming and didn’t even flinch. He leaned back slightly to avoid the prisoner’s claws even as his own claws slashed at the prisoner’s unprotected side.
Howling in pain and outrage, the prisoner stumbled back, holding his injured side. He looked at Max with narrowed eyes and hissed. Max simply straightened up and slowly stalked the other man. As the prisoner continued to back away, Max continued to stalk him.
His gaze steady and unwavering, his demeanor that of a caged tiger, Max was patient with his prey. His prey on the other hand, was getting antsy. Once more he lunged for Max and the two of them began their dance again. The one they had been in the middle of when Michael had walked in.
Just when Michael thought the prisoner was beginning to get exhausted, he whirled around, went into a crouch, and kicked his leg out at Max’s knee. When Max went down, the man pushed out of the crouch and dug claws into Max’s back.
Max roared as the claws raked down his back, scoring the first deep hit to his body.
The guards went into attack mode, but Michael held out an arm to stay them. He knew that would be the only hit the prisoner would get.
Max saw red. As he came to his feet, throwing the man off his back, he took several deep breaths to keep the beast from taking over. Slowly turning around he glared at the man who lifted a hand to swipe at his neck.
Max grabbed the man’s wrist and slammed his fist down into the man’s elbow. The snap was loud in the room as the man went down to his knees with a howl.
Max stood there for a moment watching the man cradle his broken arm, before slowly walking up to him. Grabbing hold of his hair, he yanked the man’s head back and hissed, “Now that you’ve had your chance to beat me, tell me what I want to know!”
“Never!” growled the prisoner through clenched teeth.
Max hissed once more before raking claws down the man’s side. Another howl echoed around the room. “Tell me!”
“No!”
Max roared and lifted the man from the floor. Tossing him towards the far wall, he waved his hand and the chains instantly secured the man’s wrists. As the man struggled, Max walked towards him. The man hissed at him and Max slashed his chest, leaving deep gashes.
“Answer me!”
“Fuck you, you bastard!”
“Wrong answer!” Max dug his claws into the man’s chest, just over his heart. He narrowed his eyes as he stared at the man who clenched his teeth and refused to say anything.
Max dug his claws deeper, burrowing through skin, reaching for the organ.
The man’s eyes widened as he realized what Max was doing, but still he didn’t speak.
“Who is the leader? What coven does he belong to?” When the man still didn’t respond, Max clenched his claws harder.
The man whimpered, “I don’t know which coven he belongs to. He never told me that.”
Max growled, “Who is he?”
“He never gave me a name!”
“You must have had some way of contacting him!”
“He contacted me!”
With a hiss of disappointment, Max yanked his hand out of the man’s chest, eliciting a scream from him.
Max whirled away from the prisoner and began to pace. His claws clenching and unclenching.
Michael patiently watched his Archigos pacing. He knew Max was trying to figure out what to do next.
Max finally whirled around to face the man once more and glared at him, “What did he promise you?”
The man had been hanging limply from the wall with his head down and chest heaving. Now he lifted his head slowly and gave Max an evil smile, “I’d be his Dioikitis and I’d have any woman I wanted from your coven.”
Max narrowed his eyes, “That’s all?”
The man laughed, “Oh, you think that’s all? He promised me I’d have her and I could do whatever I wanted to her.”
Now it was Michael who growled, “Her?”
The man never took his eyes from Max as he said, “I’ve been told that to claim the adelfi of an Archigos is just as good as being the Archigos.”
“What!” Michael hissed.
The only indication that it had affected Max was the sudden inhalation of his breath. Nothing else. Instead he stood there and looked the man in the eyes.
The smile on the prisoner’s face died as he saw the fire in Max’s eyes. Held by Max’s gaze, he couldn’t look away as fear began to build just like the fire in those molten gold orbs.
A soft, husky disembodied voice whispered, “For daring to murder my Archiga and for coveting my adelfi, you are condemned to death!”
In the next instant Max was on the man, fangs buried deep in his throat. The prisoner never even had the chance to scream as Max drank deep, allowing the images to invade his mind. The man hadn’t been lying. He didn’t know who the leader was. All he knew was what the leader looked like since they had met on several occasions. There was no alias, no hint of a coven, not even an address or phone number. Just what he looked like. Max committed the leader’s face to memory and yanked his teeth out of the prisoner’s neck.
As the prisoner whimpered softly, Max lifted his hand and placed it on the man’s head. Just like the last time, Max took his time. With narrowed eyes, Max watched as the man’s flesh burned off, then his insides burned, and finally his bones disintegrated. He stood there for a few moments glaring at the ashes in silence.
With a sneer, Max whirled around and walked over to Michael. The guards behind Michael had been staring in shock at the man’s remains until Max had turned. Now they were at instant attention.
Michael swallowed, “Your wounds need tending, my Kyrios.”
Max waved his hand, “It’s nothing serious.” He inclined his head towards the ashes, “He wasn’t lying. All he knew was what the leader looked like. We’ll have to hope that’s enough to find him.”
Michael nodded as Max lifted his wrist to him.
“Drink, and make the sketch to send to everyone.”
Michael nodded and bent to Max’s wrist. Holding his Archigos arm with care, Michael carefully sank his fangs into the wrist. Closing his eyes, he instantly saw the image of the leader Max had gotten from their prisoner and committed it to memory. As soon as it was done, he slid his fangs away and licked the wound closed.
Max nodded, “Good. Now go sketch it and get it out as soon as possible. I want this bastard found and dealt with before the Archiga returns!”
“Of course, Kyrios.” With another nod, Michael turned and strode out of the room to do Max’s bidding.

Max walked into his bedroom and shut the door. He stood there and looked around the empty room. He was exhausted. All the anger and frustration he’d had all day had finally been spent in the fight with the prisoner. The fight had also weakened him slightly, but he had refused to let his men know that.
Instead, he’d kept himself together until he was able to go to the Syllogos building to find a human to snack on. It had taken two human males to provide Max with the sustenance he needed to properly heal and nourish his body. When he was done with the males, he’d sent in two of the women from his coven who volunteered to care for the humans and see that they would leave unharmed.
Now that he was nearly healed and fully nourished, exhaustion from the little amount of sleep he’d been getting and the gamut of emotions that had constantly plagued him was finally catching up with him. He sighed and willed himself to walk across the room to the tub. With a tired wave of his hand, he turned on the water and began to strip from his clothes.
When the water was done, he stepped into the tub and began to bathe himself, removing all of the dried sweat and blood from his body. He drained the tub and rinsed himself off with the attached sprayer before getting out and drying off with a thick terrycloth towel.
He didn’t even bother to put on any clothes. He just walked over to the bed and crawled under the covers, laying on his back and staring up at the ceiling. His senses told him he had about two hours until dawn. He just hoped Michael had already sketched the leader’s face and sent it out to everyone who could look for him.
Closing his eyes he sighed. They were out of time. When the sun set, he would be waking up Liz. Unless by some miracle the leader was found during the day, he’d bring his beloved back into this world with her killer still in it.
Max rolled onto his side and his hand immediately came into contact with the throw he’d taken to keeping close to him in the bed. Curling his fingers into it, he brought it up to his face and took a whiff of her scent. His heart clenched as he realized that it was fading. As it was, her scent was barely there.
He closed his eyes as images of Liz washed over him once more. He could see her smile, the way her eyes lit up with happiness when she laughed. He could have sworn he could hear her laughter too and her voice. She was whispering his name as he felt her fingers against his skin.

I've been so alone for so long
Forgotten by the world
Forgotten to myself
Your effervescent eyes have awakened me
And brushed the dust away
But I knew you'd never stay

His throat went dry as he squeezed his eyes tighter and wished it was real. Wished she was really there whispering his name and touching him. Wishing that he could feel her warmth wrapped around him as she told him she loved him.

So I memorized the color of your eyes as I lost myself inside you
And I memorized the way our legs entwined as I drifted off beside you

Please, he silently prayed, please tell me you still love me when you come back, Liz.

I miss
God I miss
Waking up beside you

He didn’t know what he would do if she didn’t. No that was wrong. He knew exactly what he would do. If she didn’t love him and if she left him, he’d at least make sure her killer was dead before he gave up his own life.

At night I cling to you, I'm so afraid.
Afraid the day will come
And I'll wake and find you gone
But you promised that you'd not abandon me
And kissed my fears away
But I woke up to that day

Without his beloved, there wasn’t a reason for him to go on. Not even his coven was enough to sustain him anymore. He knew the only reason he’d made it these last few nights was because he still had a chance to get her back.

But I had memorized the way our eyes
would meet reflected in the bathroom mirror
And I memorized your naked silhouette as you slowly brushed your hair
I miss
God I miss
Waking up beside you

But it was a slim chance. She may have all of her memories of her human life intact, but that didn’t mean anything. She could still tell him that she wanted nothing to do with him. He knew she’d be able to do it. He’d have no power over her anymore. He couldn’t make her stay, couldn’t force her. All he could do was pray.

I've been so alone for so long
I forgot how much it hurts
To wake up so alone

He’d beg too. Promise her anything she wanted if she would stay with him. Stay and love him. It wasn’t too much to ask, was it? Would she be willing to spend eternity with him or had he ruined everything by claiming a human syndeo against her knowledge, against her will?

But I memorized how warm your body felt
as you lay half asleep beside me
And I memorized the way the sunlight
filled the room and played upon your body

Holding the throw close to his body, he continued to pray for her love as he waited for the dawn to pass and the night of her awakening to arrive.

I miss
God I miss
Waking up beside you
I miss
God I miss
Waking up beside you

Song is Surrender by Evanescence.

Part 16

Max stood at the foot of her grave, eyes taking in the white roses with red dewdrops and the ground which gave no indication that there was someone buried beneath it. It was time. The day had passed and now the hour of her awakening was here.
Still, there was fear in his heart. Fear that once she was awake the danger to her life would continue. There was still no word on the leader’s whereabouts. Michael had sketched the portrait of the leader and sent it out to every coven and individual who was their ally, but no one had recognized the man yet. Granted, Max didn’t think the man would out himself by directly attacking him or Liz, but it was only a matter of time before someone else was recruited by the leader for the purpose of assassinating Liz and him.
But that wasn’t the thing that he was really afraid of. He was afraid of looking into her eyes and not being able to see himself in them. He was afraid of waking her up to her new life only to have her tell him it wouldn’t include him. He was afraid he’d never hear those three words from her ever again.
He swallowed his fear and glanced up at the moon. It glowed brightly as if trying to tell him things were going to be all right. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and remembered Liz’s last words to him. I want you to know. No matter… what happens. I will always… love you… Ya panda… Max.
Opening his eyes again, he prayed she would remember those words too as he lifted his hand and opened the grave with a flick of his wrist. Once her silk wrapped form was revealed, he stepped into the hole and knelt besides her. He reached out and slowly began to unwrap the covering. His eyes took in her appearance as he continued to remove the red silk from her, baring her entire form to his gaze.
She was whole again. He could see how pale she was now, yet there seemed to be an ethereal glow coming from inside of her. He ran his fingers over the place where her wound had been. Now there was no evidence that there had ever been a gaping hole there, not even a scar was visible.
He lifted his hand to her hair and ran his fingers through it, finding it silky and just as soft as her skin had felt. As he continued to run his hands over her cheek and down her arm, he noticed that while she felt a little cold, her skin didn’t feel clammy like the dead felt.
Lifting his hand to her face once more, he ran his index finger over her lips remembering their softness. With a sigh, he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers. As his lips touched hers, he whispered the diatasso for her to wake up even as he whispered into her mind, Wake up my love. Wake up and let me welcome you to your new life with me.
When Max felt her first intake of breath against his lips, he kissed her. His heart leapt when she instantly responded to him. He could feel her lips forming to his, her fingers curling into his shirt.
She moaned into his mouth as his tongue swept against hers. Max?
Yes, my love. Welcome back home.
Her fingers tightened in his shirt when he slowly moved away from her. As he looked down into her eyes, he heard her voice once more.
Home? she asked as she looked around, her eyes blinking in confusion.
Max nodded and wrapped the covering around her once more before lifting her into his arms. Her arms wrapped around him and he could still feel her fingers clinging to him tightly. She turned her head into his shoulder as he walked through the garden towards the house. When he was beneath the third floor balcony of their room, he held her closer and leaped into the air. Landing with a soft whoosh, he opened the doors with his powers and walked into the bedroom.
He walked over to the bed and gently laid her down among the sheets. Her arms were still wrapped around him and tugged him down until he was laying over her. His lips found hers again and he began to devour her.

Is this real enough for you?
You were so confused.
Now that you've decided to stay
We'll remain together.

Her arms refused to give any leeway and only increased his desire for her. He quickly removed his clothes before pressing his entire body against hers. She moaned once more into his mouth as his hands began to roam over her body. He caressed every curve, every plane, remembering her body completely. As his lips left a trail of kisses along her jaw, neck, and shoulder he felt her arching up into his hands.

You can't abandon me
You belong to me

Liz let out a gasp as his mouth closed around one breast and began to gently suck. His tongue pressed her nipple against the roof of his mouth as his hand cupped her other breast and teased the nipple with his thumb. She was in a world of feeling, unable to think of anything else other than the way her body felt beneath his expert hands. She willingly arched her body, thrusting her breasts further into his hungry mouth and hand.

Breathe in and take my life in you
No longer myself only you
There's no escaping me, my love
Surrender

As her fingers curled into his hair, holding him to her, he lowered his hand from her breast and trailed it down to her mound. Parting the folds with his fingers, he slid them against her heat until he found her pleasure button. She let out a whimper as his fingers gently applied pressure to her clit. He increased the pressure as his fingers began to rotate around her flesh until she was grinding herself against him.

Darling, there's no sense in running
You know I will find you
Everything is perfect now
We can live forever

“Max,” came her breathless plea. It was all he could do to keep from taking her right there, but he wanted to welcome her back properly. He wanted her to know just how much he loved her and missed her.

You can't abandon me
You belong to me

Slowly he moved down her body until his mouth replaced his fingers and his tongue began to lick her folds. He took his time savoring her taste and the breathy moans he heard coming from her even as her hands held him down. Her legs wrapped around his shoulders and she arched off the bed when he slid two fingers inside of her.

Breathe in and take my life in you
No longer myself only you
There's no escaping me, my love
Surrender

Moments later, she came. The only hints he had was the sudden tensing of her body around him and the rush of hot liquid into his waiting mouth. Greedily, he drank her juices and swirled his tongue over her folds once more as she continued to tremble in the aftermath.

Hands up slowly
Give into...

Max slid his body up the length of hers and as he settled against her, he slid into her in one smooth thrust. She sighed, whispered “Oh Max,” and wrapped her legs around his. As her body arched into his once more, he began the rhythm of making love to her.

Breathe in and take my life in you
No longer myself only you
There's no escaping me, my love

Her hips lifted to meet his in the familiar dance as her fingers raked down his back. He took her lips in his once more and this time her tongue dueled fiercely with his. Until the need for air drove her to throw her head back with a groan.

Surrender
Surrender
Surrender
Surrender

Liz dug her fingers into his back as she felt the end approaching again. With a cry of his name, she clenched her body around his unable to resist the waves of pleasure washing over her.

You will surrender to me
There's no escaping from me
I know you want there to be
You must surrender to me

Max watched her as she came in his arms. Her cry reverberating through his body, even as he felt her warm liquid wash over him. His lips trembled at the sight of his beloved’s passion for him. As a single red tear slid down his cheek, he threw his head back and roared her name spilling his seed into her body.

Max listened to her breathing as she lay curled against his chest. One arm was wrapped around her protectively and the other hand caressed her back. He knew she was awake, he could feel her fingers moving against his skin sporadically. After a while, he spoke up.
“How do you feel, akribos?”
Liz heard him ask her how she felt, but she couldn’t respond. She couldn’t really figure out how she felt. She knew she’d died and was reborn into Max’s world. She remembered everything, but still nothing could have prepared her for this.
When Max had woken her up, she hadn’t had the chance to deal with her new senses and body because he had been there. His love and desire for her had overwhelmed everything else. Now, she was being overwhelmed by her new senses.
She was hearing things as if they were right next to her. The breeze blowing against the balcony doors sounded like there was a hurricane in the room with them. She could feel things more intensely. Max’s hands caressing her back, sent shock waves through her body. The smell of sex was so overpowering it was making her nauseous and the small amount of moonlight coming through the balcony doors was too bright. It was why she kept her eyes closed and her face buried in his chest.
“Liz?”
She grimaced at the sound of his whisper which sounded like a roar. Trying to focus on the fact that she was in his arms, alive and safe, she struggled to answer him.
“I feel different,” was all she managed to get out.
“I know you do. Your body went through a change while you slept. You are now a vampire like me.”
He felt her tremble in his arms and hugged her tighter.
“Come on, agapo mou, let’s have a bath.”
Liz allowed him to lead her to the tub, which he filled up and helped her into. She sat in the tub and let him bathe her. She was too engrossed in trying to come to grips with her new body to pay attention to the way Max was bathing her.
When Liz closed her eyes, trying to shut out the light and noise, Max thought she was enjoying what he was doing. When she trembled again as the fear of her new life swept over her, Max believed she was trembling with desire. As Liz became more and more frightened of the things she was now capable of, Max remained oblivious to her internal struggle.
She was vaguely aware of Max finishing up and helping her out of the tub to dry off. Then he was dressing her in one of the many red dresses he loved seeing her in. She tried to focus on Max once more. Watching him as he finished dressing her before he dressed himself, she hoped that by focusing on him and his love for her, she’d be able to keep herself from going mad.
When Max finished dressing, he turned to Liz with a smile. Offering his hand to her, he said, “Let’s go, agapo mou. Time for us to feed.”

Liz gritted her teeth as the sounds roared in her ears. She now had a headache and she could have sworn her ears were a step away from bleeding with all the noise. Her eyes felt like thousands of tiny pins had been stuck into every inch of them and her skin was so sensitive she almost wanted to peel it off of herself.
Max had taken her to the Syllogos building where they had first met to allow her to chose someone to feed from. The ride in the limo had been torture in itself with the sound of the car and all the passing lights from the streets. Now they were inside of the building where there was lots of loud music, smoke, and sex going on.
As they entered the lounge area, Liz nearly lost her stomach as the smell of blood hit her hard.
With his arm around her waist, Max leaned into her and whispered, “Dialego kapios. We’ll take her back to my office for some privacy, endaxi?”
Liz nodded in spite of her pain and discomfort and forced herself to look around the room. She immediately spotted a woman who was sitting on one of the couches along the wall talking to another woman and three men. The moment Liz looked at her, the woman turned her gaze towards Liz and slowly smiled.
Liz inclined her head towards the woman and said, “her.”
Max nodded before making his way to the woman’s side. Liz leaned against the wall and watched as Max leaned over to speak to the woman. Something inside of her snarled at the way the woman leaned even closer to Max, but her discomfort overrode it. She closed her eyes against the pain once more and swallowed, wishing it would just go away.
When she opened her eyes again, Max was on his way back to her, the woman at his side. When Max reached her, he smiled and said, “Liz, this is Darcy. Darcy, this is my wife.”
Darcy smiled and held her hand out to Liz, “How do you do?”
Liz nodded, “Fine. Did Max tell you?”
“Yes. It is all right. I will do this for you.”
Max grinned and slid his arm around Liz’s waist, “Come, let us move to my office. It is much quieter and more comfortable there.”
Liz allowed Max to steer her out of the room with Darcy following them. They walked down the hall to his office and Max held the door open for both of them. Inside, he indicated for them to have a seat on the leather couch against the wall.
Darcy immediately went to it and sat down. Liz was slower in going to the couch. She looked at Darcy as she made herself comfortable on the couch, seeming at ease with the fact that a vampire was going to feed from her.
Liz felt Max give her a gentle shove on the small of her back, propelling her towards the couch and Darcy, her first human meal. Swallowing, Liz finally made her way to the couch and sat down hesitantly next to Darcy.
Darcy inclined her head towards Liz, “Should I remove my blouse? Or just move it out of the way?”
Liz’s eyes immediately went to the skin of Darcy’s neck which she had bared when she’d finished her question. She could see the vein throbbing against her skin as if it were trying to force its way out. She could even hear the flow of blood calling out to her.
As she felt the incisors in her mouth begin to lengthen for the first time, she suddenly heard Darcy’s heartbeat as if it were right next to her ear. The vein in her neck throbbed in time to the beat. Liz couldn’t help but lean in slightly, but when she did, she was suddenly hit with the smell of the woman’s blood.
Sitting back from Darcy, Liz shook her head, “I can’t do this.”
Darcy turned a questioning look to Max, who was looking at Liz. “Of course you can, akribos.”
“No, Max, I can’t do it.”
“I’ll help you.”
“No.”
“I can use a diatasso to help you drink from her, if it’s too hard for you.”
Liz shook her head again and stood up, “I’m sorry. You should just go.”
Darcy frowned at her, “It’s okay, I don’t mind, really.”
“Liz,” Max interjected, “you know you have to do this. It is the only way to survive now. Let me help you.”
Liz turned to face Max, her hands curling into fists, “No! I won’t do this! You can’t make me do this!”
“Agapo mou, if you do not feed, you will die.”
Liz shook her head, tears were beginning to fall down her cheeks, “No! No!”
Max stared at her for a few moments before turning to Darcy, “Would you go back to the lounge for a bit, Darcy? I’ll send for you when we’re ready.”
Darcy nodded and left the room, shutting the door behind her.
Max waited until she was gone before addressing his beloved again. “Liz, I know this is new and a little strange to you, but we’ve talked about this. You know you have to feed to live. We all do.”
Liz shook her head again and raised her hands to her temples, “No! I won’t do it.”
“You’ll die if you don’t.”
“Then so be it.” she said between gritted teeth.
Max’s eyes went molten gold, “I won’t allow this! I will not stand here and watch you do this! My life depends on yours! You know that. I can help you!”
He took a step towards her, but she backed away from him. The glare she gave him, stopped him in his tracks.
“Don’t come near me!” she hissed.
“Liz?”
“You did this!” she growled.
Fear instantly seized Max at those words. The look in her eyes told him she meant what she said.
“Liz, akribos. Parakalo.” he begged as he lifted a hand towards her.
“No!” she screamed, “You did this to me! You made me into this, this monster!” She grabbed her hair in her hands and sobbed, “God, make it stop! Make it go away!”
“Meli, I can’t. What’s done is done. It was the only way to save you.” He reached out for her again, “Liz…”
She jumped away from him and yelled, “Don’t touch me! I don’t want any part of this! Do you hear me! None!”
Max beseeched her with his eyes, “agapo…”
“Stop it! Stop trying to talk to me! Stay away from me! Just stay away!”
“I can’t.”
“Stay away!” she screamed once more before bolting from the room.
“Liz!” Max roared as pain sliced through his heart.
Liz ran for the limo and climbed in. Clutching her head in her hands she growled at the driver, “Drive!”
“But my Kyria…”
“I said drive!”
Parakalo, Liz. milo mechri meh! came Max’s plea in her head.
She growled once more, “Get out of my head!” And forced herself to shut down her mind.

Max crumpled to his knees the moment he felt Liz shut him out. Her last words to him began to repeat themselves in his mind, Don’t touch me! I don’t want any part of this! Do you hear me! None! Stop it! Stop trying to talk to me! Stay away from me! Just stay away! Stay away!
“Okhi!” he whispered as his body began to tremble. “Okhi, parakalo!”
His worst fears were coming true. She was doing what he’d hoped she never would. And the pain of that realization was more than he could take.
“Liz!” he sobbed, “Liz, parakalo! Iposkhoses!”
But she was already gone and he knew it was now true.
Liz no longer loved him.

Part 17

Liz sat in her favorite chair in the domatio ilios staring out of the window. The house was quiet now and the pain in her head had lessened. It was still there, but at least it was tolerable now. She closed her eyes for a moment and sighed, she could feel the hunger gnawing at her insides now that she was calmer. Yet she continued to try to ignore it in favor of wondering what was taking Max so long to return home.
Opening her eyes again, she gazed out at the night. It was really amazing to see everything so crystal clear, like it was still daylight. She knew there was no way she’d ever see daylight again. She would miss it, but it didn’t seem to be so disappointing to her at the moment.

Isabel walked up the staircase, heading towards the domatio ilios on the third floor. The second she’d gotten off the phone with her brother, she had gone to the house, hoping Liz would have gone back there when she ran. Luckily, she was right. As soon as she’d arrived, the servants had told her Liz was in her favorite room.
As she readied herself to confront Liz, she remembered the phone conversation she’d just had with her brother.

“Ebros?”
“Isabel? Efkharisto Theos, you’re home!” came Max’s hoarse voice over the line.
Isabel frowned at the sound of his voice. “Isn’t that where you told me to go, Max? I’m only being a good member of the coven by following my Archigos command!” she hissed sarcastically.
“I’m sorry about that, Izzy, you know how I get when I have too many emotions to deal with.”
“Yeah, well, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some mothering to do, so…” she started to put the phone back into the cradle.
“No! Isabel please! It’s about Liz!”
Isabel paused at the sound of Liz’s name. She placed the phone against her ear again, “Max?”
“Please, Isabel.” Max sobbed, “I need your help.”
“What’s wrong with Liz?” she asked, panic growing slowly.
“She ran from me. I took her to the Syllogos to teach her how to feed and s-she ran from me.” Isabel could hear his voice breaking as he continued, “She accused me of m-making her into a m-monster and she doesn’t want to be a p-part of this. She screamed at me to s-stay away.”
Isabel closed her eyes as she listened to her brother’s quiet sobbing on the other end of the line. It didn’t make any sense to her. She was certain that Liz wanted to be with Max this way. Why would she run from him? There had to be another explanation to this.
“P-please, Izzy. Please, t-talk to her. I n-need her.” Max begged in a little boy’s voice. It was a voice Isabel hadn’t heard in centuries. And that was all it took to forgive her brother for snapping at her the other day.
“I’ll find her Max. I’ll go and see what’s going on, okay?” She paused as she heard him take a shuddering breath, “Adelfos, why don’t you go on home? When I find her, I’ll try to get her home too, okay?”
“Thanks, Isabel. I owe you one.” Max whispered.

Isabel paused outside of the domatio ilios, taking a moment to compose herself before stepping inside.
“Liz?” she asked in a low voice.
Liz turned as soon as she heard Isabel call her name. She rose from her chair and walked over to her sister-in-law. “Isabel! Hi!”
Isabel smiled as she enveloped Liz in a hug, “Oh Liz, it’s good to see you again! We’ve missed you!”
Liz returned the hug, “I’ve missed everyone too.” Pulling away with a sigh, she motioned for Isabel to take a seat next to her. “How is Alex and Vanessa?”
Isabel nodded as she sat down, “They’re both doing fine. Vanessa is enjoying her time with her friends now since Alex and I are allowing her to be more independent. I think she’s finally growing up.”
Liz nodded, “That’s good to hear.”
They sat in silence for a few moments before Isabel spoke up again, “How are you, Liz?”
Liz sighed, “I’m good. Hanging in there. It’s taking some getting used to. More than I thought it would.”
Isabel frowned, “What’s wrong?”
Liz closed her eyes for a moment before she turned to look at Isabel. “I didn’t expect it to be so overwhelming when I woke up. I thought I’d wake up and just be like you and Max, but…” she shook her head, “but it’s too much.”
“What’s too much?” asked Isabel.
“All of it. Everything is too loud or too bright. All the things I smell make me nauseous. And I feel like a stranger in my own skin. It‘s just really, really frightening”
Isabel just stared at Liz, trying to understand what she was saying. Suddenly her eyes widened in enlightenment. “Oh! Oh Theos! Liz, I’m so sorry! We didn’t realize! We should have known.”
Liz gave her a puzzled look, “Should have known what?”
“You were a human, so you’ve never had to deal with these new powers so to speak. The rest of us, we were born that way. We’ve never had to learn how to control them really. It was just instinctual for us.”
“Oh.”
Isabel gave her an encouraging smile, “I think I can help you put a damper on those new senses, it’ll help the headache go away.”
Liz nodded, “I’d appreciate that.”
Isabel went silent for a few moments, closing her eyes to search inside herself. Once she figured out how to control her senses, she began to teach Liz.
“Okay, close your eyes for a moment.”
Liz did as she asked.
“Good, now you should concentrate on one sense at a time okay. Let’s start with what you hear. Imagine that you have a control inside of you that can tone down the volume. Imagine turning that control until the noise seems to fade to a tolerable level.”
Liz’s brows scrunched as she tried to do what Isabel described. Focusing on all the noises she could hear, she imagined that she could tone down the volume. Soon, she was doing just that. As she opened her eyes with a smile, she realized she could now only hear the normal things in the room, like their breathing. “Wow!”
Isabel nodded, “Yeah, it should become second nature to you, just like it is for us. It’ll get so your senses will automatically adjust to your surroundings. Also, once you can control them, you will be able to use that control to focus on hearing a conversation in another room for example.”
Liz nodded, “Right.” She closed her eyes once more and focused on raising and lowering the volume, then trying to pick out certain noises and focusing on only that. Soon, she was able to do it with ease.
Isabel continued to walk Liz through controlling her other senses until she was certain Liz had most of it under some semblance of control. Soon, Liz seemed much more calmer and relaxed than when Isabel had first entered the room. The lines of frustration had left her face and the tension in her body was no longer visible.
With a sigh, Liz finally turned to Isabel, “Thanks, Izzy. I’m feeling much better now. I had no idea that I would wake up to this, but now I think I have it all under control. My headache is definitely gone now.”
Isabel smiled, “Good.” She reached over and squeezed Liz’s hand, “Now that you’ve gotten that part out of the way, there’s something else you need to learn.”
Liz frowned, “Like what?”
“You are no longer human, Liz. As you know, there are things you no longer need to worry about because of that. But now you are a vampire. And with that comes new things you need to worry about.”
Liz nodded, “I know.”
“Do you? Do you understand that if you don’t do those things, you could still die?”
“I know we’re not really immortal, Isabel. I know we can still die.”
“Of course, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Liz, you still have to do certain things in order to survive on a daily basis.”
“I know.”
Isabel sighed, “Okay, then. Liz, you have to feed tonight. You are newly made and you need that nourishment to begin building your strength. Without it, your powers won’t develop as they should. Also, it’s just like being human, without the proper nourishment you will die.”
Liz nodded, “I know that Izzy. Max explained all of that to me years ago.”
Isabel frowned, “Then why did you run when he tried to get you to feed?”
Liz blinked in confusion. Turning her head to look out the window once more, she stared out at the night sky as she thought back to being at the Syllogos with Max.
Isabel took her silence to mean hesitation. “Liz, Max loves you. He was just trying to help you survive tonight. If you don’t feed, you’ll die. And Max will die with you.” Liz’s head snapped towards Isabel as she continued, “You don’t know what he went through these last few days while you were gone. He constantly worried that when you came back, you wouldn’t love him anymore. He kept referring back to Bedros and his syndeo, Dessa. Thinking that you would do the same as she did. You would wake up and hate him.”
Liz frowned, “Isabel! I could never hate Max!”
“Really? Because he thinks you don’t love him anymore.”
“What? Why would he think that?”
“You ran from him Liz. You said some things to him. You told him to stay away and then you ran.”
Liz shut her eyes as she began to realize how her panic over her new senses had seemed to Max. She’d been trying to get the overwhelming noises and other things to stop and had ended up lashing out at Max. It hadn’t really been his fault. He couldn’t have known she’d be going through this because he’d never had to go through it. He was born a vampire. Liz had been reborn a vampire from a human.
“Oh God! Isabel! He thinks I don’t love him anymore! I didn’t mean to hurt him like that! That’s not what I meant!”
Isabel sighed, “I get that now.”
Liz frowned, “Is he okay?”
“I don’t know. When he called earlier, he was upset. He asked me to come talk to you.” She shook her head, “Oh Liz, if you’d only seen him while he waited for you to come back to him! As the days went by, he began shutting everyone out. Before he did, I was able to talk to him. He told me of his fear that you would wake up and want nothing to do with him. That you would be like Dessa was. That you would leave him. He was afraid you would be changed completely and you wouldn’t love him the way you once did. His fears consumed him so much that he began to do nothing but sit by your grave silently waiting for you!”
“I’m sorry Isabel.” Liz whispered.
Isabel just looked at Liz before she asked in a low voice, “Do you…do you still love him?”
Liz’s eyes went wide, “Isabel! Of course I do! Nothing has changed! I’m not leaving him. I promised I wouldn’t and…”
Isabel nodded, “I know you did, but Liz…”
“Isabel.” Liz stared her sister-in-law dead in the eyes, “I love your brother. I always will. I made promises to him before I died and I meant every one of them. I’m not going anywhere.”
Isabel nodded as a smile spread over her lips, “Then go to him Liz. Go to him and let him know these things.”
With a nod, Liz hurried out of the room. Stopping at the door, she turned back to Isabel before returning to her side and giving her another hug. “Thanks, Isabel. Thank you for being there for him when I couldn’t be. Thanks for taking care of him. And me.”
Tears of happiness welled up in Isabel’s eyes at Liz’s words. As she hugged Liz back, she said, “you are very welcome, adelfi mou.”

Isabel had waited until the door to Max’s office had closed behind Liz before heading to the front door. She had walked down the stairs with Liz, where they had been informed that Max had returned home and was in his office. Liz had said goodnight to Isabel and disappeared into the room to make things right with her syndeo.
In a much better mood, Isabel was on her way home to spend some time with her own family when the front door opened and Michael strode in at a brisk pace. Seeing Isabel, he stopped and gave her the customary nod.
“Excuse me Kyria, I’m here to see our Archigos.”
Isabel frowned, “Well, you’ll have to leave a message. He’s busy right now.”
“Busy? Is he in a meeting?”
“No, he’s with his syndeo.”
Michael nodded, “Right, she returned tonight. Is he in his rooms or…?”
“He’s in his office at the moment.”
“Good.” He started to walk past her to the office door, but Isabel stepped in front of him, “Don’t disturb him right now, Michael. He needs to be alone with his syndeo.”
Michael frowned, “This is important!”
Isabel nodded, “So is being reunited with his syndeo.” She sighed, “Whatever it is, it can wait one more night, Michael. Max needs this time with Liz. He needs to be whole again. I know even you can understand that.”
Michael gritted his teeth, “Yes, but he gave me orders to notify him as soon as I found out anything about the leader responsible for the attempt on the life of our Archiga.”
Isabel frowned, “Has he been found?”
Michael nodded, “He’s being taken to the Enchros building right now.”
“Okay, then. If he’s in your custody then hold him there. Max will deal with him tomorrow night.”
Michael sighed, “I’m supposed to tell him.”
“He won’t be upset if you don’t tell him right now. This is more important. And I won’t allow you to interrupt them! I’m certain both the Archiga and the Archigos will be upset with the interruption.”
Michael just stared at Isabel, but Isabel glared back at him. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and stood there until Michael finally nodded and backed out of the house.
“I’ll just go and make sure the leader is locked up tight. I’ll return as soon as night falls to inform the Archigos of our capture.”
“Yes. You do that.” replied Isabel through tight lips.

Max looked up when he heard the door to his office close. His breath caught in his throat at the sight of Liz standing there looking at him. She gave him a hesitant smile as she slowly made her way towards his desk.
“Hi.” she whispered.
“Hi.” he whispered back.
She stood on the other side of the desk looking at him through her eyelashes, “Can we talk?”
“Sure.”
She nodded and walked towards the shelves, pressing the groove that allowed the bookcase to open, revealing the stairs to their bedroom. She looked at Max over her shoulder as she asked, “Coming?”
Max stood up, turned off the computer, and walked after Liz as she made her way down the stairs. He watched as she made her way over to the bed, stopping just as she reached the foot of it before turning to face him.
He stood near the foot of the stairs, shutting the door behind him and turning to look at Liz.
She held out her hand towards him, “Come here, Max.”
Slowly he made his way to her side, slipping his hand into hers. She curled her fingers around his and tugged him closer to her. Looking up into his eyes, she gave him a dazzling smile that took his breath away.
She reached up with her free hand to caress his cheek as she spoke, “I love you, Max. I always have and I always will. I promised that. Don’t you remember?”
“Yes.” he breathed.
“You have to know, Max. Everything I told you before I died. It’s all still true. I meant every word I said. Ya panda, Max. S’agapo ya panda.”
Max closed his eyes and lowered his forehead to Liz’s. She curled her fingers around his neck, holding him to her as he took deep breaths. “S’agapo,” he whispered, his voice breaking.
Liz lifted her lips to his, as her hand continued to curl around his neck and up into his hair. As she kissed him, she let go of his hand and slid her hand up his chest. Pulling her lips from his, she looked up into his eyes and smiled. “I’m sorry for hurting you like that. I was just overwhelmed by my new senses and I couldn’t control them. Isabel helped me a little. I’m fine now.”
“I didn’t know. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I tried to, but I just didn’t know how.” She slid both of her hands over his chest, “Max, I didn’t mean the things I said earlier. I wanted this for six years, I wanted to be like you. I said things I shouldn’t have in my pain and confusion. I know it hurt you and I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. I understand now why you said those things. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you then.” He sighed as he slid his fingers through her hair. “I missed you, agapo mou.”
Her smile brightened, “I’m certain I would have missed you too if I’d dreamed at all.” She began to unbutton his shirt as she lowered her voice, “Agapo mou, epitrepo meh sthixeteh esi poso S’agapo.”

Hello, good morning, how you do?

Liz leaned in again and kissed him as she removed his shirt from him. She tossed his shirt to the floor and slid her hands down his bare chest as her tongue slid against his, teasing it into her mouth. Her fingers curled around his belt and began nimbly undoing it before moving to the button and zipper.

What makes your rising sun so new?

She removed her mouth from his and began to leave a trail of open mouthed kisses from his jaw all the way down to his navel. As she knelt before him, she tilted her head back to smile up at him. She hooked her fingers into his pants and underwear and sensuously slid them over his hips and down his legs.

I could use a fresh beginning too

She placed one hand behind his knee, indicating that he lift his foot so that she could remove his shoes and socks. Once she’d removed all of his clothes and he stood before her in all of his naked glory, she rose up to her knees again.

All of my regrets are nothing new

Kissing his hip, she whispered against his skin, “S’agapo.”

So this is the way that I say I need You

Max couldn’t breathe as he watched his beloved curl her fingers around his manhood. His eyes went to half mast as she began to stroke him slowly. She had one hand holding his hip while the other stroked him to life. Her lips were busy pressing butterfly kisses to his hips and abdomen.

This is the way

When she knew he was hard enough, she swirled her tongue around the head of his penis. This got a hiss from Max and he cupped her head with one hand. She licked him a few more times before she took him into her mouth and began to suck in earnest.

This is the way that I'm learning to breathe

Max groaned and used both hands to hold her to him.

I'm learning to crawl

As she felt him begin to rock against her, she swirled her tongue around his tip once more before taking more of him into her mouth. Using her tongue to slide him out of the way of her elongating fangs, she tilted her head and sank her fangs into the skin around the base of his penis.

I'm finding that You and You alone can break my fall

Max cried out and threw his head back as pleasure erupted along his veins. Clutching her head, he could feel her teeth in his skin drawing out his life giving blood. He moaned when she withdrew her teeth and swirled her tongue over the wound.

I'm living again, awake and alive

Liz sucked on him a few more times before slowly slipping him out of her mouth. She began to lick and nip her way up his body until she reached his chest. Waiting until he’d opened his eyes to look at her, she nipped at the skin just over his heart.

I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies

Her eyes sparkled at him as she opened her mouth and once more sank her fangs into his skin. Max cupped her cheek, watching as she fed from him. Her eyes had closed the moment she began to drink and he heard a soft moan escape her throat.

Hello, good morning, how you been?

All too soon, she opened her eyes and withdrew her teeth from his skin. Licking the wound closed, she pressed her palms against his chest and pushed him back onto the bed. She continued to gently push him back until he was lying on his back in the middle of the bed.

Yesterday left my head kicked in

Max watched as Liz removed her clothes then slid over his body, straddling his hips. She leaned down and slid her tongue over his lips until he’d parted them for her. As she claimed his mouth, she shifted her body until she’d impaled herself on him.

I never, never thought that
I would fall like that

As he moaned at the feel of her surrounding him, she sat up and began to ride him. Max curled his hands around her hips and she quickened her pace. With his eyes locked to hers, he began lifting his hips to meet her downward movements.

Never knew that I could hurt this bad

Liz’s lips parted as she began to breathe through her mouth and Max could see her fangs pressing against her bottom lip. He slid his hands up her sides to cup her breasts in his hands. She covered his hands with hers and tossed her head back, arching her body.

So this is the way that I say I need You

“Oh Max.” she hissed as she picked up the pace even more. He grunted his agreement, feeling his own fangs pressing against his bottom lip.

This is the way that I say I love You

Suddenly Liz leaned forward, holding his hands in hers she pressed them into the bed over his head. Max closed his eyes as she nuzzled his neck. When she began to swirl her tongue over his neck and shoulder, he tightened his fingers in hers. Liz refused to let go of his hands, holding them prisoner as she continued to ride him and lick his neck.

This is the way that I say I'm Yours

He wasn’t surprised when he felt her fangs bury themselves in his neck. He threw his head back to give her more access and moaned once more as he felt his blood leaving his body. He heard her soft growl against his neck and felt her body tightening around his as the beginning of her orgasm hit.

This is the way

He came with a cry of her name, releasing his seed into her body just like his blood. She continued to drink from him as her body milked his.

This is the way

When he began to relax against the bed, only then did she slide her fangs out of him and close the wound. She shifted her body slightly, resting over him. Her fingers let go of his and one hand caressed his jaw. He could feel her pressing soft kisses against the other side of his jaw.
When she reached his ear, she whispered, “S’agapo.”
He smiled and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. “S’agapo, syndeo mou.”

“I should have realized what was wrong when you started to pull away from me.” Max said as he held Liz against his side.
Hours had passed from the time Liz had showed him how much she still loved him. In those hours, they had alternated between making love and talking about their love for each other. Max and Liz had talked about their feelings for each other and their place in each others lives, making sure things were clear to the both of them.
“It’s not your fault, Max. You were born a vampire, how could you know what I would go through?” Liz asked. “It was my fault for not talking to you, instead of running away.”
He sighed as she shifted slightly, pressing her body against his and entwining her leg with his. “Still, I should have been more perceptive.”
She giggled, “You mean, you should have read my mind.”
“Yes!”
“But you didn’t because you were being a gentleman.” she finished as she kissed his shoulder. “It’s okay, Max. Let it go.”
He slid his hand up the arm she had slung over his chest. “I can’t help it. It’s my duty to make sure you are happy.”
She hugged him, burying her face in his neck, “I am happy, Max. You make me happy.”
He smiled at that. “So, you forgive me for messing up your awakening? Just like that?”
She lifted her head to look into his eyes, “Yes. Just like that.”
“You know, Isabel is going to give me hell for not seeing my mistake. She’s also going to rub it in that she was right about you and your feelings for me.”
Liz chuckled, “Well, serves you right for listening to people other than your own family.” Her smile faltered a bit as she asked, “Why did you take me to the Syllogos building to feed Max? Couldn’t we have done that here?”
He sighed, “It’s easier to meet with a human there than to bring them to this house because of the distance. There’s also the fact that a human would feel more comfortable in surroundings they know. Also, I’m really not fond of letting strangers into my house unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
She nodded, “Makes sense.”
He looked at her, “I’m sorry. I know I told you that you could feed from me, but I thought you would need to learn how to feed. So I figured I’d let you feed from a human the first time while I guided you through the process.” He smiled, “Turns out you already knew how to do it without my guidance.”
She smiled, “I kinda cheated there.”
He quirked an eyebrow, “How?”
Her answer was to bat her eyelashes as she slid her index finger along his brow.
He laughed, “You read my mind.”
“Yep. It was incredibly easy to slip inside while you were so preoccupied with what I was doing to you. Our minds always reach out for each other when we come together like that. Plus, your shields were already down because you were still distraught over my running out on you.”
He sighed, “Right. I guess I’m still getting used to this syndeo business myself.”
“Um hm.” she answered as her lips grazed his cheek. She brushed her lips over his as she spoke again, “Am I going to continue feeding from you or do you want me to take a human.”
Max growled at the image he caught from Liz’s mind. Her bent over the neck of a human male. “You’ll feed from me. I’ll provide for you.”
Liz sighed, “Max. It’s just blood. I’m in love with you, not them. You really need to curb this jealousy of yours.”
He tightened his arms around her, “I’m not jealous.”
“Ye…” she stopped as she suddenly got an image of Max bent over the neck of a human female. Glaring at Max, she growled, “That’s not fair!”
He smiled, “So you won’t mind then?”
She huffed as she rolled onto her back, “Fine! Okay, I’ll feed from you and you’ll feed from human males only!”
He chuckled as he gathered her into his arms again, “Welcome to my world, mikros ena.”
She joined him in laughter, “Glad to be here, agapo mou.”

Hello! Bet you are all surprised to see me here! I just couldn't stay away. Truth be told, writing has been a huge therapy session for me these past few months, so if I don't get in my weekly therapy, I kinda go nuts. LOL. Thank you all for your kind words. His grandmother is doing better, but they are all still worried since the doctors thought she wasn't going to make it through the weekend...go figure. I had an aunt who did that too...she lived for three more years!

Anyway, before I get to the individual SOs and post the next part, I wanted to explain myself... Liz's freak out was over the 'voices' in her head and the overwhelming senses. I tried to make it so that everyone knew Liz was NEVER squeamish when it came to drinking blood or being buried in the ground. Some people are and some people aren't. I think I could be buried so long as I am not AWARE of it and don't wake up until I've been unburied. LOL. Not sure about the drinking blood part though... Liz was just so overwhelmed by those new senses and she couldn't control them, so she lashed out...you know what they say about 'animals lash out when in pain'.

Okay, now that that is clear (I hope)...

La'Shon- Oh thanks. Glad you liked it. Now...about the leader  . Yes, he needs Liz to learn feeding because he may not always be there to guide her. The privacy issue...so true! , yeah but sometimes I really wish RL wasn't.

Strawberry- Will do.

Zanity- LOL, yeah it happens. Hee hee, some people believe vampires are simply a more advanced form of human....hmmm?

LB4- , glad you liked! What will they do?

dmb- Expect to see Max and Liz switch places often from agressive/dominating to passive/vulnerable  . Awww  , I'm thinking it comes from all the reading I've done with lovemaking scenes in it and sometimes research pays off don't it? . Hee hee, even when we won't admit it, we all love Jealous Max.

M in Y- Pain, she lashed out in pain. Hell, even I've done that before! Wait...she knows she did it!
as she thought back to being at the Syllogos with Max.
Here she was thinking about what had happened...
Here she's seeing things as Max saw them. That's when she realizes that she unintentionally hurt Max.
She ran because she was in pain. Sorry if I wrote it all confusing like...
Tess, huh?

roswell- Thanks, glad you liked. Thank you.

midnight- Tess!

sonii- You are sooooooo right about the feeding idea. 8)

BehrObsession- Yep. Tess!

LJL-Thanks.

83AA- LOL, was that a hint? Oh! Your vamp has red eyes! That's so cute!

Cayla- Glad you think he does  . Found the song. Love it! And they've got a few others I may use in the story later. Thanks for telling me about them.

Becca- hi!

candycane- LOL, it's okay. I'm glad everyone is loving this as much as I'm enjoying writing it. Don't worry, my 'sick' little mind is only listening to itself  . LOL, we'll see about the leader  .

Ashley- Thanks.

M17- Thanks.

Okay, before I post this....guess what? I'm almost done with the next part too, so I'll have two parts for you! I'll post it as soon as I'm done.....a few hours maybe? Enjoy.....

Part 18

Max grinned as he watched Liz run from one end of the patio area to the other at breakneck speed before she vaulted from the railing, flipped in midair, and landed in a crouch near the edge of the pool. He couldn’t help but be proud of the fact that she’d gotten accustomed to using her new powers and senses so quickly. He’d known she would be a quick study and so far, she hadn’t disappointed him.
After talking a bit more the night before, they’d gone to sleep for a while. When they had woken up later in the day, they had taken a long, luxurious bath together in the sunken tub before Liz had asked Max to teach her more about her new senses and powers. He’d taught her what he could there in the room until the sun had gone down.
Once they were able to leave their bedroom, the two of them had raced out into the night where Max had showed Liz how to materialize from one place to another in a heartbeat. When she was ready, they’d gone back to the Syllogos building where Liz had waited in the office for Max to find two human men to feed from.
Liz had watched avidly as Max had fed from the men’s wrist and mentally showed her how to know when to stop feeding, to close the wound, and implant pleasurable or happy feelings and thoughts into the human. Once Max had released the humans into one of the hostesses care, Liz had literally pounced on him.
In seconds, she’d had them both undressed and straddled him on the couch in his office. As she’d rode him into oblivion, she’d taken the blood she’d needed from him. It had been one of the most erotic moments of his life. His love for her had felt like a tidal wave during that time. It had swept him up and literally drowned him, only allowing him to feel what she was doing to him.
He’d felt her teeth sink into his neck, knocking the breath out of him. He had been vaguely aware that he’d moaned in pleasure and tightened his grip on her hips as she’d picked up the pace. He’d already been swept away totally by the time the movements of her hips matched the sucking of her mouth.
The next thing he’d been aware of was the blinding white light that seemed to engulf his mind and body, sending warmth throughout him. Then he’d been collapsed back against the couch with Liz licking and nuzzling his neck. When he’d sighed in contentment, she’d giggled and sat up looking down at him with sparkling eyes.
He’d nearly groaned at the way she licked her lips and looked at him like she still wanted to devour him. Instead, she gave him a loving smile before she leaned down to kiss him. That kiss had told him everything she’d wanted him to know. She loved him. She loved him and was happy to be with him completely, in every way.
They’d sat there for a few moments more until they were both ready to return home so he could continue to teach her everything she needed to know as a newly made vampire. But as time went on, he’d realized he really didn’t have to show her much. Most of it she was able to glean from his mind. The rest of it was pure instinct.
He watched as she straightened up and turned around to face him, a wicked smile on her face.
“Was that good enough for you?” she asked in a sultry voice.
He smirked at her, “Come closer and ask me that again.”
When she materialized in front of him, she slid her body against his and whispered, “Better?”
He growled at the feel of her heat so close to his groin. “You’re playing with fire gynaika.”
She gave a sultry laugh, “Okhi, omorfos. Idios pezo meh esi.”
With a grin, he leaned down to cover her lips with his. Her hand buried itself in his hair and tugged him closer to her even as her leg wrapped itself around his. He moaned into her mouth as her heat rubbed against him, sending fire shooting through his veins.
Damn, but she was certainly adapting very well to being a vampire, he thought to himself. It shouldn’t have surprised him since it was his blood that resided in her veins now. That meant she’d be second only to him in power and strength since he was a part of her now. He knew she’d give him a run for his money by the end of the week, if not sooner.
As her hands slid over his shoulders and down his chest to work on getting the buttons of his shirt open, a throat suddenly cleared behind them.
Max whirled around, placing Liz behind him as he glared at the intruder. “What?” he hissed.
Michael had the grace to look chagrined. “Forgive me, my Kyrios, but I have news of the leader.”
Max nodded. He really wasn’t angry at Michael. He was angry at himself for letting his guard down and allowing someone to sneak up on him unawares.
Liz’s voice sounded in his mind, It’s my fault. I’m taking advantage of you.
He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into his side, nuzzling her hair. You’re not doing anything I don’t want you to do, agapo mou.
She smiled as he lifted his head and looked at Michael. “What news?” he asked.
Michael gave him a respectful nod, “We have him in custody now. He was captured by his coven and they brought him here to us. He’s the son of the Archigos of the Irinikos Coven. His name is Kivar.”
Max was stunned, “What? Are you certain?”
“Yes. His father turned him in himself.”
Max didn’t know what to say. The Irinikos Coven resided in the nearest city to the west of the Aristomache Coven’s. Both covens had an ongoing peaceful truce which had lasted for several centuries. In fact, both covens had been allies in the last war that had nearly destroyed the Aristomache Coven. The Irinikos hadn’t suffered as great a loss as the Aristomache, but they had fought at their side to rid the world of the greedy ones.
“Their Archigos, Joran, contacted us the moment they realized it was Kivar’s sketch I had posted. Joran informed me that he and the Irinikos coven had nothing to do with any of this. However, he hinted that he should have known his son was up to something. As soon as he realized it was Kivar, he sent his men to search for him and they managed to get him into custody. Joran contacted me last night to tell me he was searching for his son and I tried to inform you of that, but Isabel said you were busy.”
At Max’s nod, Michael continued, “He contacted me again a couple of hours after the sun set tonight to tell me they had Kivar in custody and were delivering him to us. They wait for you at the Enchros building, my Kyrios.”
Max nodded, “Fine, go on and prepare everything for me. I’ll be there as soon as I see to my isyzygos.”
“Of course, my Kyrios.” With a formal nod, Michael disappeared.
As Max turned to Liz, she asked, “Shall I go with you?”
“No, agapo mou.” He reached up and ran the back of his fingers along her cheek. “You should stay here, where it’s safer. If you want, you can call Isabel to come and keep you company.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. This is not something I want you to deal with Liz. He tried to kill you, to get to me. Trying to kill you alone is a crime punishable by death, but since he was also after destroying me and our coven, it’s more so. I prefer that you not witness the things he may say or do.”
Liz sighed, “Fine. I’ll stay here. There is probably a lot of things I have to do since I’ve been gone for four days. I can get more done if you are not here to distract me.”
The two of them shared a chuckle before Liz’s face turned serious and she slid her arms around his shoulders.
“Promise me you won’t do anything to place yourself in danger, Max? He wants you dead. He could still succeed.”
“I know, agapo mou. I promise, I’ll be careful. And I’ll keep my men close by.” With those words, he leaned down and kissed his beloved.

After seeing to Liz’s safety and comfort, Max appeared in his office in the Enchros building where Michael and two guards were waiting. As soon as they were ready, the four of them walked to the meeting room where Joran and his men were waiting for Max.
As Max entered, he took note of his guards, standing at attention around the room, all of them had eyes trained on Joran and his group of five. The moment Max strode through the doors, Joran and his five men stood up and offered the courtesy head nod to Max.
Max acknowledged them and strode to his seat at the head of the table opposite of the others. Once he had sat down, the other six did so too. Michael took his place standing to the right and slightly behind Max’s chair.
Max issued the standard greeting. “Kalos ilthateh, Archigos Joran of the Irinikos Coven.”
“Greetings, Archigos Maximillian of the Aristomache Coven.” replied Joran.
Wasting no more time, Max gestured to Michael as he stated, “My Dioikitis informs me that you have apprehended the one responsible for the assassination attempt of my isyzygos.”
Joran nodded, “That is true, Kyrios.”
“I see. And neither you nor your coven had anything to do with it.”
Joran lowered his head, folding his hands in his lap. “Nothing at all, Kyrios.” He lifted his gaze to Max’s as he continued, “Although I should have known he would try something like this.”
“Why?” asked Max.
Joran sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before squaring his shoulders and looking Max in the eyes.
“Because Kivar is your half brother.”

Chaos ruled as shouts filled the room. Above the shouts came Michael’s roar, “Are you mad! How dare you claim that!”
Max, who had been sitting with a rigid jaw, held up his hand for silence and the whole room went quiet. He looked at Joran with narrowed eyes, “How is that possible?” he asked.
Joran swallowed, cleared his throat and began his story. “As you know, your parents were never each others omologia. And while Diane loved your father, they were still allowed to mate with others if they wanted. Isabel was 51 when Diane mated with me. I had been the Archigos for only three years and still unattached when we met. It was a very brief affair. Still, she managed to conceive. When she found out she was pregnant, she told your father immediately. Phillip told her to ask me if I wanted my son. When I said I did, Diane gave him up to me, including all of her rights as his mother. I named him Kivar and raised him alone. Fifty-three years later, you were born. By that time, I had actually met and bonded with my omologia. Nyla accepted and loved Kivar as if he were a son born of her, just like she loved all our children. Just as I loved them all.”
He paused and lowered his eyes to the table. When he spoke again, his voice seemed softer and laced with sorrow. “One hundred and thirty six years ago, Nyla gave birth to our eldest son, Aidan. We had no choice but to let Kivar know that Aidan would become Archigos after me since he was the first born son of the current Archigos and Archiga of the Irinikos Coven. He was furious of course and tried to get me to make him my successor. But we all know the laws of the covens say it is the first born son of the Archigos and Archiga who succeeds, no matter what. Angry that I wouldn’t break the laws even for him, he wanted to know who his real mother was. I told him about Diane, but she and Phillip had already passed away and you were the Archigos of the Aristomache.”
Looking up at Max again, he continued, “Kivar decided that since he was first born of Diane and the Aristomache was more powerful than the Irinikos, he would become the Archigos. I tried to talk him out of it and when no one from our coven rallied behind him, I thought it was finally over. You can’t imagine what a surprise it was when one of my men brought the sketch your Dioikitis had sent to us. I spent days in denial before I sent my men after him. When they brought him in, I found out that he’d been planning this all of these years in secrecy. All this time I’d thought he’d let it go, he’d been recruiting vampires who had left their covens willingly. He’d found vampires who wanted more power than they had to join with him in planning to take over the Aristomache. He told me he’d been planning this for decades with his group when they had finally gotten the opening they needed. You had found your omologia.”
Max closed his eyes and took a deep breath. The mouthpiece had been right, they had tried to get to him through Liz.
Joran remained silent for a few moments before speaking in a hushed voice. “I tried to talk to Kivar again. To make him see the error of his ways, but he remains unrepentant and set in his beliefs. He believes that as the eldest son of Diane, he is the rightful Archigos of the Aristomache Coven.”
Max looked Joran in the eyes, “Why were we never told?”
“Your mother gave up all rights to him. It’s what we all agreed. Nyla and I didn’t know it would come to this. We loved him as equally as we loved all our children. None of us thought he’d become consumed by greed and lust for power. We didn’t raise him that way.”
Max nodded. He understood that. He knew you couldn’t tell who would let power corrupt them. That was why the Aristomache had nearly been destroyed and his parents killed. Power had corrupted several others and they had set out to devour the covens.
Slowly, Joran stood up and bowed slightly to Max. “Kyrios, although it saddens me to do so, I know it is my duty. Kivar of the Irinikos Coven has committed treason against the Aristomache Coven, its Archigos and its Archiga. I release him into your custody and retract all rights to him. He is yours to with as you see fit.”
Max frowned, “You know the punishment for treason.”
Joran nodded, “Of course, Kyrios. I will not ask you to have any mercy on him. He has not shown any compassion towards any of us and remains unrepentant. Even when I told him what the punishment would be and that I would have no choice to stand behind that, he remained unapologetic. He washed his hands of me and our family years ago. I now wash my hands of him.”
Max stood up and nodded, “I am sorry for your loss.”
“I thank you, Maximillian. All I ask is that you accept this as our peace offering. So that our covens remain allies, as it has been for centuries.”
“It will be so.” Max whispered.
Joran and his men gave Max respectful bows before being escorted out of the Enchros building by some of the Aristomache guards.

When the Irinikos coven were gone, Max just stood there silently thinking of everything he’d just learned. Ever since Liz had been laid in the ground, Max had obsessed over getting his hands on the one responsible for trying to kill Liz. His rage had built and built until he couldn’t wait to rip the responsible one to shreds.
Now, with all the new information that had come to light, he wasn’t so angry anymore. All he felt was sympathy for a father who’d lost his son to greed and lust for power. But most of all, he felt sadness and loss for a brother he’d never known.
Phillip and Diane had never once told him nor Isabel about Kivar. They’d never mentioned to him that he had an older brother out there somewhere.
Michael cleared his voice before softly asking, “What shall we do, Kyrios.”
Max sighed and steeled himself. “Take me to him.”

Kivar looked up from the place he was chained to. His eyes narrowed as he watched Max walk towards him. He’d recognize the Archigos of the Aristomache anywhere. How could anyone not with that arrogant swagger and body language that screamed ‘I am the King and you are lower than a peasant.’

You think you're smart
You're not, it's plain to see
That you want me to follow

Max came to stand before Kivar who sneered at the look of pity in his eyes.
“Was it worth it?” Max whispered, “Was all this worth losing your family and your father’s love?”
Kivar growled, “I never had it!”
“Is that what you think? You have no idea what it just cost your father to walk away from here and leave you for me to do with as I pleased.”
“Spare me the sentimental drivel, Maximillian. You and I both know you don’t give a damn what happens to the little people.”

It's killing me let's see
You've got the gall
Come take it all

Michael came forward with a hiss, “How dare you address him as a familiar! You will acknowledge him as your Kyrios!”
Max raised a hand to silence Michael as Kivar laughed, “My Kyrios is it? Excuse me for not falling on my knees and worshipping the ground your precious leader walks on.”
As Michael tensed up to launch himself at Kivar, Max turned to look at him, “Dioikitis, wait outside with the others.”
Michael looked like he wanted to protest, but in the end he simply bowed his head and retreated from the room. It left Max alone with Kivar.

The jury is coming
Coming to tear me apart
All this bitching and moaning
Come on it's on

Kivar rolled his eyes, “Must be nice to command mindless drones.”
Max frowned, “They are not mindless. My people respect me. Rightfully so.”
“Sure, keep telling yourself that, fearless leader.”

I'm trapped in this world
Lonely and fading
Heartbroke and waiting
For you to come

Max ran a hand through his hair trying to remain calm. He knew Kivar was baiting him with his sarcastic comments and he refused to fall for it.

We are stuck in this world
That's not meant for me
For me

He looked up at Kivar and asked, “Why didn’t you just come to me? I would have acknowledged you. I wouldn’t have turned you away.”

So what you got
One last shot
It seems to me
That you're not needed

Kivar glared at him, “Oh, really? And we all would have been one big, happy family then, huh?”

Come on
It's killing me let's see
You got the gall
Come take it all

Before Max could reply Kivar growled, “Save it Maximillian. I didn’t want your acceptance! I don’t want to be your bestest friend or your long lost dearly beloved brother! I want your coven!”

The jury is coming
coming to tear me apart
All this bitching and moaning
Come on it's on

“I could have made you a part of it.” Max replied.

I'm trapped in this world
Lonely and fading
Heartbroke and waiting
For you to come

Kivar roared, “I didn’t want to be a part of any coven you led! I wanted the coven all to myself! It’s mine! I am the eldest son of Diane Evans! The Aristomache Coven is mine! And I knew that the only way to get it was to kill you! I want you dead! You hear me? Die and give me what’s rightfully mine!”

We are stuck in this world
That's not meant for me
For me

Max stood back and blinked at the rage that came off of Kivar in waves. As Kivar continued to scream at him, Max knew there was nothing he could do. No amount of talking or reasoning was going to get through to Kivar. Joran had tried and failed, now Max could see that he wasn’t going to succeed either. Kivar was too far gone. He was too crazed by his lust for power that he couldn’t even hear anyone’s pleas for reason.

I'm trapped in this world
Lonely and fading
Heartbroke and waiting
For you to come

He closed his eyes in sadness for his brother. When Kivar finally went silent, his rage spent, Max opened his eyes to look at him. Kivar was supported by the wall and the chains that held him, chest heaving and bloody tear tracks ran down his face.

We are stuck in this world
That's not meant for me
For me

Max swallowed before he whispered brokenly, “For daring to commit treason against the Aristomache Coven, its Archigos, and its Archiga. You are condemned to death.”

I'm trapped in this world
Lonely and fading
Heartbroke and waiting
For you to come

Kivar closed his eyes as Max silently lifted his hand and placed it against Kivar’s forehead. A heartbeat later, there was nothing but ash where Kivar had been.

We are stuck in this world
That's not meant for me

Max lowered his hand. He lowered his head as he closed his eyes. “Xekoorasi sto irini, adelfos.” he whispered.

For me
For me

Here's the next part as promised. I have to say, I had a good laugh about how so many of you predicted Tess as the leader. Also, I still have lots to tell so don't start panicking about this being the end. And last, guess what....Tess is here  .

La'Shon- Well, thank you. I was hoping that I got Max's pain and hesitation about killing Kivar across. Also the fact that there was just no saving Kivar at all. Thanks. You're very welcome.

candycane- It was all horrible wasn't it. You'll find out here. Yes, it sure can  . LOL, your wish is actually my command!

Zanity- Yep :D . So true about power and corruption!

WC- Yeah, trying to make her more....something. Thanks, I try with the songs, sometimes it gets really frustrating. Here's what's next...

sonii- LOL, I don't think anyone did. LOL, I don't know how many parts are actually left, but rest assured there's still a lot more I have to tell. Michael, Maria, Tess, Kyle, Vanessa, Max and Liz's kids, etc. Lots...

LB4- Glad you liked the feeding  . LOL, it comes with the territory of being an incredibly powerful Archigos. Relax, it's not the end, not by a loooooong shot.

Strawberry- Thanks, here it is.

Part 19

Max walked into the domatio ilios with his head held down in sorrow. All conversation stopped as soon as they were aware of him.
Liz got up from the chair she was sitting in, across from Isabel and Alex, and went to him. Her arms immediately slipped around his waist as she hugged him close. Max welcomed the comforting warmth of his syndeo as he closed his eyes and buried his face in her hair. He breathed in her scent, allowing him to get his emotions in control.
Isabel and Alex had stood up when Liz had gone to him, watching the exchange quietly.
Isabel frowned, she knew something bad had happened. She knew that was the reason Max had called her and Alex and asked them to meet him at his home.
Alex slid his arm around Isabel’s waist, as he asked, “Max? What’s wrong?”
Max sighed and looked up at them. Holding Liz close he said softly, “Why don’t we all have a seat.”
As Isabel and Alex sat back down in their seats, Max allowed Liz to steer him towards a love seat across from them. When they were all seated, Isabel spoke up.
“What happened, Max?”
He ran a hand through his hair as he said, “We found the leader. The one who had the whole assignation set up.”
Liz looked up at him, “So, it was really him?” At Max’s nod she added, “Who was he? Why did he do it?”
Max turned to look at her for a moment. He lifted his hand to her cheek, pressing his fingers into the warm softness of it. He smiled when she leaned into his hand.
“Max?” whispered Isabel, hesitating to break up the tender moment.
Max turned to look at Isabel and she lost her breath when she saw the unshed tears in them. “His name was Kivar,” came Max’s broken voice. “He was our half brother.”
Stunned silence greeted that announcement. Moments went by before a whispered word came from Isabel, “What?”
Max nodded and began to explain the whole thing to her. He told her everything that Joran had told him about him and their mother, Diane. He let her know that they had all agreed to let Joran raise Kivar as his son only. Max told them how Joran’s syndeo even accepted Kivar as one of her own. Kivar had grown up in a loving family, but that hadn’t stopped him from becoming greedy.
He told them how Kivar couldn’t accept letting his half brother become the rightful successor to the Irinikos Coven and had turned his sights to the Aristomache when he’d found out about his mother being their Archiga. He had spent years planning this and gathering the men he needed to pull it off.
Max explained how Kivar didn’t show any remorse when Max had talked to him. Max had tried to tell him that he would have accepted him into the Aristomache Coven if he’d known about him, but Kivar wouldn’t hear any of it. He told Isabel that nothing he nor Joran could say could change Kivar’s mind. He’d been determined to kill them all so he could have what he thought was rightfully his.
In the end, Max had no choice but to carry out the sentence for one who committed treason against the Aristomache Coven leaders. In the end, it hadn’t mattered if Kivar was blood family or not because Kivar hadn’t cared one way or the other.

Max sat there staring at the floor through a red, blurry gaze. Liz leaned against him with one arm around the front of his waist and the other caressing soothing circles on his back. Across from them, Isabel sat staring at Max in shock since he’d finished telling her everything. Alex sat besides her, holding her hand and watching her closely.
As tears began to fall down her cheeks, she whispered, “Why? Why didn’t they tell us about him?”
Max swallowed, “I don’t know. Joran said mother gave up all her rights to him, so Nyla accepted him as her own son. They raised him as theirs, they didn’t think there was any need for us to know. He already had a family.”
“But he was our brother! How could mother just pretend he didn’t exist? He was her son!”
Alex leaned in to hug Isabel close, “Shh, agapo mou, there’s nothing to be done about it now.”
Max looked up at Isabel and said, “She was probably doing what she knew she had to do, for the good of the coven.”
“The good of the coven?” Isabel shrieked. “He was her son!”
Max nodded, “I know that Isabel, but they talked about it. Father told her to ask Joran if he wanted his son and when he said yes, she gave Kivar to him. Father already had you and Joran didn’t have any children. It makes sense. Mother was the Archiga of the clan and could give father more children. Joran didn’t have a wife or woman then, he needed a child more than they did.”
“But to never tell us?”
“I don’t know why they didn’t tell us, Izzy. Maybe they didn’t want the complications. Maybe mother felt she already had her hands full with us.”
Isabel closed her eyes, “Theos! I could never do that to one of my children. I could never give them up like that.”
Alex squeezed her hand, “You won’t ever have to agapo mou.”
She turned to look at him and smiled through her tears before leaning in to hug him close.
They sat there for a few moments before Alex looked at Max and said, “I’m going to take my isyzygos home.”
Max nodded and watched as Isabel and Alex disappeared from the room.

Liz watched Max as he simply sat there, staring at the place where Isabel and Alex had last been. She could see the tears in his eyes and the way he would occasionally swallow his grief. Gently touching his mind with hers, she felt his sadness and hurt over his brother. She could also feel a touch of anger churning underneath it all.
She stood up and held her hand out to her osizigos, saying, “Max, come with me.”
Max blinked and looked up at her outstretched hand. He slid his hand in hers and allowed her to help him up. She wrapped her arms around him and willed them to their bedroom.
In the room, she led him to one of the high backed chairs near the fireplace and sat him down in it. Leaning over she pressed a kiss against the top of his head before settling herself into his lap. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, sliding one hand into his hair, pressing his head down to her chest.
Max closed his eyes as he leaned his head against her chest. He sat there in silence, listening to her heartbeat as she held him close to her. He could feel her fingers in his hair, massaging his scalp and the faint stirring of her breath against his forehead. It felt good to be held and soothed by her, surrounded by her warmth and love for him. It felt so good that his emotions finally got the better of him and he began to cry in her arms.
Liz was aware of the wetness against her chest long before she heard the soft sobs emanating from Max. As he cried, his body shook in her embrace and she felt his arms wrap tighter around her, clinging to her for comfort.
She heard his muffled voice from between her breasts, “Why didn’t they tell us? Why couldn’t I have saved him?”
Liz closed her eyes at the pain she heard in his voice. “There’s nothing you could have done, Max. He didn’t want to be saved. You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.”
“He was my brother.”
“I know, agapo mou. And for that, I am truly sorry.”
“I should have known. I should have known about him and he wouldn’t have wanted to kill us.”
Liz lifted Max’s head and looked into his eyes. “You don’t know that Max. He might still have tried to kill you even if you had known. Didn’t you say he had a family already? They loved him didn’t they? And yet he still betrayed them and came after you. Why would he risk losing everything like that?”
Max shook his head, “I don’t know.”
Liz caressed his cheek, “You said you tried to talk to him. What did you say?”
“I told him he should have come to me and I would have made him a part of the coven. I wouldn’t have turned him away.”
“And what did he say?”
“He said he didn’t want my acceptance or to be my brother. He said he didn’t want to be a part of the coven, but he wanted the coven for himself.”
Liz nodded, “See? It wouldn’t have mattered if you’d known about him. He never wanted to be a part of your family Max. He wanted you to die so he could take your place.”
Max shut his eyes as he remembered the words Kivar had shouted. I didn’t want to be a part of any coven you led! I wanted the coven all to myself! It’s mine! I am the eldest son of Diane Evans! The Aristomache Coven is mine! And I knew that the only way to get it was to kill you! I want you dead! You hear me? Die and give me what’s rightfully mine!
The words rolled through his mind over and over again as he realized Liz was right. Kivar had never wanted to be his brother, he’d never wanted another family. He hadn’t even wanted his own family.
All he’d been interested in was becoming the Archigos of a coven. And when he’d realized he wasn’t going to be the Archigos of the coven he’d grown up with, he’d set his sights on the coven he’d been born in. He’d never once thought of Max as his younger brother, or even of his older sister, Isabel. All he’d thought of Max as was the man who stood in his way.
Max’s sorrow swiftly turned to anger as he realized that Kivar had been nothing more than a man who used bribery and manipulation to get what he wanted. Kivar was a man who didn’t hesitate to kill anyone who was in his way. And Max had been in his way.
Rage roiled through Max as he realized that Liz had been nothing more than a thing to Kivar. She’d been like an insect he needed to swat in order to get to meat behind it. He threw his head back and roared as that realization swept through him.
Liz had been inside Max’s head from the moment he’d gone silent. She was there when Kivar’s words shouted through his mind and when Max realized Kivar didn’t see him as a brother, but as something in his way. She was there when Max saw Kivar as the crazed man he had become and she was there when Max realized that Liz had meant nothing to him.
She wasn’t surprised at all when Max suddenly roared. She’d felt the rage building and knew it would eventually come out. She remained sitting in his lap even as he leaned back against the chair, breathing hard and glaring at her with narrowed eyes. As she took in the way his eyes glowed that familiar molten gold, she knew it wasn’t her that he was angry with.
She lifted a hand to caress his cheek before leaning in and pressing a kiss to his lips. She whispered in his mind, Max, let it go.
He hissed as her tongue swept over his lips and teased his fangs that had lengthened with his rage. Grabbing her head in his hand, he held her to him and deepened the kiss.
Liz didn’t complain when he grabbed her and pressed his mouth to hers. She didn’t protest when he thrust his tongue into her mouth and his fangs scraped against her bottom lip. All she did was wrap her arms around his shoulders and lean into his embrace as he devoured her mouth with his.
Max growled as he tasted Liz’s blood in his mouth. He’d kissed her with such bruising force that his fangs had pierced her lip and the blood was dripping into his mouth. Without another word, he lifted her in his arms and walked them to the rug in front of the fireplace. Laying her down, he pressed his body into hers and went back to devouring her mouth.
Liz moaned as she felt Max press his body against hers. He suddenly reared his head back and began to lick her bloodied lip even as he used his claws to rip her clothes to shreds. She simply used her hands to remove his clothes, even though she was doing it as quickly as she could.
With another growl, Max ripped the rest of his clothes off before grabbing her thighs in his hands and spreading them. Swiftly he thrust forward and buried himself inside of Liz. His growl turned into a howl as he realized just how ready for him she already was. His syndeo was warm and wet. A perfect tight fit for his body.
Liz arched her body and lifted her hips to meet Max’s thrusts. He still held her thighs in his hands and she wanted more. He was pounding hard and fast into her, but it wasn’t enough. She tried to close her legs around him, but he wouldn’t let go of her thighs when she’d whimpered.
Finally she’d growled and used her claws to force him to let go of her thighs. He’d hissed at her until she’d wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him to her. Reaching up, she dug her claws into his shoulders and yanked him down to her. As their lips fused together once more, their bodies mimicked the way their tongues dueled for dominance.

Hours later, after the sun had risen for the new day, Max and Liz were still on the rug in a tangled mass of limbs, sweat, and dried blood. Max’s body still weighed Liz’s down and her limbs still remained wrapped around him.
She knew he was awake, even as she was.
They’d joined together, fueled by Max’s turbulent emotions and had incredibly hot, hard, rough sex. Immediately afterwards, they’d come crashing down into an exhausted sleep. They’d slept until the rising sun prickled their senses and woken them up. Still, they said nothing as they lay there listening to each other breathe.
Liz finally lifted her hand and ran her fingers through his dampened hair. She felt him tense before he lifted his head to look at her.
Max grimaced as he took in the damage he’d done. Liz had dried blood on her chin and lips. Her lips were slightly swollen from his mouth and teeth. There were fading bruises on her arms, hips, and thighs. Her thighs also had puncture wounds from his claws. And there were faint scratches all over her body.
He swallowed and looked into her eyes, “Theos! I am so sorry Liz! I never meant to hurt you! I never wanted to…”
She placed a finger over his lips as she smiled at him. “You didn’t do anything I didn’t want you to do Max.”
“But look at you.”
She grinned, “Well, if I look anything like you do, I’d say it was so worth it.”
He glanced down at himself and saw what she was talking about. His own body was covered in bruises, scratches, and puncture wounds. He could only imagine what his face looked like.
He heard her chuckle and glanced back at her as she said, “Being a vampire certainly comes in handy when your lover is one too, huh? We can be as rough with each other as we want and know that it’ll all heal quickly with no lasting effects.”
He couldn’t help but grin as she lifted a hand and languidly ran her fingers down his chest. Capturing her hand, he lifted it to his lips and kissed it before leaning down to kiss her on the lips tenderly.
“Come on, agapo mou, let’s heal ourselves with a nice, long bath and some more sleep in our bed, okay?”
She sighed as he helped her to her feet. “Now that sounds wonderful, agapo mou.”

Isabel frowned as she surveyed the room from where she and Liz were standing with Vanessa. Liz glanced in her direction and sighed.
“Really Isabel, I don’t need bodyguards. Anyone looking at you is going to run in the other direction.”
Isabel rolled her eyes, “Sorry. I still think this was a bad idea.”
Liz shook her head, “No it’s not. It’s been over a week Isabel. And if Max and I had not come to the Irinikos ball, it would have looked like an insult. They need to know there are no hard feelings over what Kivar did.”
“I know, I know.”
Liz took Isabel’s hand in her and gave it a gentle squeeze. “I’m sorry Izzy. I know it’s still a sore spot for you. Joran did what he had to do. It may not have been right, but he did it and I know he misses his son. Kivar was his first child, how can it not hurt, but he’s going on. You have to let it go too.”
Isabel turned to look in the direction of where Max was standing with Joran, Alex, and a small group of men. All of whom were talking and laughing with genuine smiles on their faces. “Like Max has?”
“It still bothers him from time to time. He tries to hide it from me, but he likes to forget I can read his mind. At least he doesn’t blame Joran for what happened. Max knows no one made Kivar do what he did. The only one responsible for Kivar was Kivar himself.”
Isabel nodded.
Liz grinned, “Vanessa, isn’t that Corinna I see over there?”
At her friend’s name, Vanessa snapped her head up and looked in the direction that Liz gestured to. A smile spread over her lips as she turned to her mother, “May I?”
Isabel rolled her eyes, “Go ahead, you obviously would enjoy her company more than your mitera.”
“Thank you.” Vanessa planted a quick kiss on both Isabel and Liz’s cheeks before rushing off to join her friend.
“Where’s Vanessa off to?” asked Alex as he and Max walked up to their wives.
As Liz giggled, Isabel answered him. “She’s gone off to find someone who’s more interesting than a couple of old women.”
“Speak for yourself.” answered Liz, “I’m a baby compared to Vanessa.”
Isabel arched an eyebrow, “Maybe in vampire years, but you are definitely an old soul.”
Max chuckled as he wrapped an arm around Liz’s waist and nuzzled her shoulder, “That she is.”
The two of them exchanged smiles as they thought back over the past several days since Liz had returned. Throughout it all, Liz had quickly been learning how to use her new senses and the powers she had inherited from Max. And she had definitely surprised him by giving him a run for his money long before the week was up.
Now she stood beside him as the powerful new Archiga of the Aristomache Coven. His people had gladly stood behind his proclamation and treated her with all the respect they’d given him. They had already begun to love her when she had still been human, now as a vampire, they could see their decision had been right. Liz was turning out to be everything Max needed in a isyzygos and she was everything the coven needed in an Archiga.
“How is he, Max?”
Max turned to look at his sister, knowing she was asking about Joran.
“He’s fine. Thankfully he has his family to be there for him. He said Nyla took it hard, but their children have been their comfort. His son, Aidan, has been there for them both through it all. It bodes well since he will be the one to take over after Joran.”
They all nodded their agreement to that.
Alex opened his mouth to say something, but was beat by another feminine voice.
“Ebros, Maximillian. Esi kitazo kalos, kathos panda.” Tess purred.
Max simply said, “Tess.”
Liz and Isabel glared daggers at the blonde, while Alex looked worriedly between them.
“Ti simveni, Max? Esi keh idios boro akoma milo meh ekinos anthropinos konda, veveh-a.”
“Ya plirofori-es sas, ekinos anthropinos ineh tora enas ekmetalleftis, dikos too isyzygos, keh i Archiga too ta Aristomache.” growled Liz.
“That’s right. So I’d be careful what you say around us, Tess.” added Isabel.
As Tess gaped at the women, Max smiled at his wife. “Tess, I’d like you to meet my wife, the new Archiga of the Aristomache and my syndeo. Elizabeth Evans.”
As he finished, he leaned down and nuzzled Liz’s temple while she gave Tess a triumphant smile.
Tess glowered, “Is that so? Well, I guess even the mighty shall stoop too.”
Max turned to her with a frown, “What is that supposed to mean?”
She shrugged and gave him an innocent look, “Everyone thought that the powerful Archigos of the Aristomache would take an isyzygos who matched him in power. Guess they were wrong.”
Liz moved away from Max to stand in front of Tess, “Who says they are wrong, Tess?”
Tess looked at Liz for a moment before she laughed, “Trust me Liz,” she hissed, “you don’t know what you are saying.”
“Trust me Tess,” growled Liz. “You don’t know what you are saying either.”
There was a moment of silence before Tess lunged at Liz. Her hands formed into claws as she raked at the air where Liz had been a second before. She didn’t even have a chance to turn around as Liz appeared behind her and used her own claws to rip at Tess’s arm.
With a shriek, Tess whirled around and hissed at Liz. Liz simply stood there with a wicked smile, daring Tess to try something else.
The blonde took the bait and vanished from the spot, but Liz was ready. As Tess appeared on Liz’s right side, Liz crouched down and swung her leg out, effectively sweeping Tess’s legs from under her. Tess went down hard, but quickly scrambled into her own crouch.
Liz straightened up with a grin and folded her arms in front of her. That sent Tess into a rage as she roared and leapt at Liz. Again, Liz disappeared and Tess went sprawling on the floor, the wind knocked from her.
As Tess lay there, trying to catch her breath, Liz appeared a couple of feet in front of her. The smile was gone from her face as she hissed, “Get up, bitch.”
Tess pretended to have a hard time getting up for a few moments before she once more launched herself at Liz.
Even as Liz spread her arms out, readying her claws, Tess was caught in mid-leap. As Michael wrapped his arm tighter around her waist and pulled her in, she continued to struggle against him.
She growled at Liz, “Come here, human! Let me drain your precious blood! I’ll see that you bleed to death.”
Liz began walking towards Tess, “Human! Stupid bitch, can’t even realize I’ve kicked your ass already!”
Max grabbed her from behind and yanked her to his chest.
She growled, “Let go of me! I’m not finished with that skanky blonde!”
He pressed his mouth against her ear, “Yes you are agapo mou. You’ve put her in her place.”
He nodded to Michael who escorted Tess out of the room, several more of his men following them.
When they were gone, he let go of Liz, who whirled around to face him. “What are you doing! You know I could have handled her.”
He gave her a proud smile, “I know, but this isn’t the place, Liz.”
She looked around the room, noticing how everyone was looking in their direction. As soon as her glare met their gazes, they quickly turned away and went back to whatever they had been doing before the interruption.
Max curled his fingers around her forearm and looked at Isabel and Alex. “We’ll be taking our leave now. You two have a good night.”
Liz didn’t say a word as Max escorted her over to Joran to say their good nights before leaving the ball to return home.

Vanessa sat on the bench in the garden, the lights and noise of the ball behind her. She’d gone to join Corinna for a while, but Corinna had left early and Vanessa hadn’t been too eager to rejoin her mother just yet. Granted, she enjoyed Liz’s company, but she couldn’t enjoy it too much when her mother was there too.
So, she’d thought she’d take a few moments to sit in the garden before going back inside. It was quiet and cool out there, even with the doors to the ballroom just a few feet away. Little did she know, her peacefulness was about to be interrupted.
“Well, it looks like I’m not the only one who wanted a bit of quiet.” said a masculine voice.
Vanessa looked over her shoulder to see a man with green eyes and auburn hair walking towards her. He gave her an easygoing smile as he stood next to the bench and she couldn’t help but notice the way it made his eyes sparkle.
“Mind if I have a seat?” he asked.
She shook her head, “No, not at all.” She scooted over to give him some room.
“Thanks,” he said as he made himself comfortable. He soon held his hand out to her, “I’m Aidan by the way.”
She smiled, “Vanessa.” A blush appeared on her cheeks when he lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it.
“It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance Vanessa.”
“A pleasure,” she replied.
A moment of silence passed before he asked, “Are these things as boring to you as they are to me?”
She laughed and nodded, “Here with your parents too, huh?”
“Yep.”
They laughed in mutual understanding, as the ball continued behind them.

Max watched as Liz continued to pace from one end of the room to the other. He leaned against his dresser and watched in silence as she continued to growl low and flex her claws. He sighed and folded his arms in front of him, “Let it go Liz.”
She whirled around to face him, “Let it go? The bitch had it coming Max. She’s been putting me down every time she saw me!”
“I know Liz. I was there.”
“Then you know I had a right to defend myself! I have every right to defend what is mine.”
He smirked at that. “Yes, meli, you do.”
She growled at him, “Oh wipe that smug look off your face.”
“What? I’m agreeing with you.”
“Yeah, but you don’t have to look so happy about it.”
He chuckled, “Are you mad at me or at her?”
“You! Her! Both!”
He arched an eyebrow, “Which is it?”
“Her for thinking she can still have you.”
“She can’t. I’m bonded now,” he grinned.
“And you for being so damned smug about it,” she snapped.
He laughed at her fury, which only served to make her lash out at him. Thankfully his reflexes were still a tad quicker than hers as he ducked her claws. Her claws came down on the low dresser he’d been leaning against instead.
He straightened up and looked down at the mangled dresser. Frowning, he glanced up at her, “What was that for?” he growled.
“Don’t laugh at me! This isn’t funny!” she growled.
“No it’s not anymore,” he hissed.
As he began to stalk her, she threw up her hands, baring her claws. “Don’t come near me, you jerk!”
“Jerk? A moment ago you were proclaiming I was yours.”
She simply growled at him. And a second later he had her pinned to the dresser as she let out a shriek. Then she smiled as she felt him press the length of his body against hers.

Hello my friend, we meet again
It's been awhile, where should we begin?

With his lips a breath away from hers he whispered, “Want to make me yours right now?”
“Yes,” she whispered back.

Feels like forever
Within my heart are memories
Of perfect love that you gave to me

She let out a laugh when she felt their clothes disappear from their bodies, then moaned as he dipped his head and took her nipple into his mouth. As she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and head, he lifted her up and set her on the dresser.

Oh, I remember

Max moved to her other breast and feasted on it just as he’d done with the first and Liz wrapped her legs around his. She slid her hands down his back, reveling in the feel of his muscles moving beneath her fingers.

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes

Max lifted his head from her breast and placed a kiss on her lips before he leaned her back against the wall. When she was comfortable, he began trailing kisses down her neck, between her breasts, and over her stomach until he was kneeling between her legs.

My sacrifice

He glanced up at her enjoying the way she was looking at him through half lidded eyes with her chest rising and falling quickly. He smiled as he leaned in to kiss her right thigh before taking a long lick of her folds.

We've seen our share of ups and downs
Oh how quickly life can turn around
In an instant

She gasped and arched up, spreading her legs wider for him. As he lowered his mouth to feast on her, he felt her fingers curl into his hair urging him on.

It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and within your mind

Liz watched as he closed his eyes in bliss, enjoying the taste of her. Her own eyes closed a few moments later when his moan vibrated from her folds and throughout her body. She writhed against the wall as his tongue teased her opening before flicking her bundle of nerves.

Let's find peace there

Max continued to taste her for a few more moments before he moved away and stood up. Her whimper at the loss of his mouth was soon swallowed by him as he claimed her lips with his. As he devoured her mouth, he moved between her legs. She didn’t hesitate to wrap her legs around his and lifted her hips to welcome him in.

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes

As their bodies joined once more, Liz threw her head back and howled in pleasure. Max grinned at her triumph and continued to thrust into her body. Liz opened her eyes and looked up at him, her eyes glowing. A smile spread over her lips as she lifted her head and licked his nipple.

My sacrifice

Max groaned as he felt her tongue tease his nipple before her teeth nipped at it. When she slid her hands up his arms to his shoulders, he grabbed her wrists and lifted her arms above her head. He leaned her back once more and pinned her arms to the wall. Leaning over her, he joined his mouth with hers once more.

I just want to say hello again

Hungrily, they tasted each others mouth even while he continued to pump his body into hers. As they began to pant, he lifted slightly, allowing her access to his chest. He pressed a kiss against her wrists as he felt her lips kissing his chest.

I just want to say hello again

Liz slid her tongue over his skin, flicking one nipple, then sucking it into her mouth. She feasted on more of his skin as she made her way over to his other nipple, repeating her actions.

When you are with me I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes

Max continued to kiss and lick his way up and down her arms as she teased his chest with her mouth. He began to pick up the pace of his hips and growled when she lifted her hips to meet his harder.

Cause when you are with me I am free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes

It didn’t take long before their thrusts began to make the dresser bang against the wall, the sound of it mingling with their cries and growls.

My sacrifice

Max felt Liz’s legs grip him harder just as her fangs sank into his chest, right above his heart. With a growl, he lowered his head and sank his own fangs into the tender flesh of her right arm, just below her wrist.

My sacrifice

They began to drink from each other in time to the thrusting of their bodies. As their blood flowed from one to the other and back again, Liz began to moan and tremble beneath him. Max knew she was close and lifted his hips higher, burying himself deeper.

I just want to say hello again

With a sudden clenching of her body and a cry as she jerked her head back, she came all around him. That sent Max into his own orgasm and he lifted his mouth from her arm to growl his release against the wall.

I just want to say hello again

She kept him close as his hips continued to jerk against hers until she felt him shudder and relax against her. Sighing, she leaned in and licked the blood from his chest, closing the wounds in the process. Max lowered his mouth to her arm and did the same for her.

My sacrifice.

They remained that way for a few more moments before she chuckled, “You gonna keep me pinned like this all night or can we continue this in bed?”
He chuckled, “You started this gynaika.”
“Me? You’re the one who stalked me and pinned me here.”
As he lifted her up and carried her to the bed he said, “Yes, but you’re the one who was all angry and ranting about how I belonged to you.”
She laughed as she settled into the sheets, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him down with her, “News flash, dear osizigos. You do belong to me.”
“Yes.” Max sighed as she flipped them over and sank onto him, “I belong to you, agapo mou.”
Liz leaned over and brushed her lips over his, “S’agapo.”
“S’agapo.”

Hi guys.... a few notes.

1. My boyfriend's grandmother passed away last Sunday and the funeral was yesterday (Sat). So, that's why I'm late with this one and haven't updated my other ones at all.

2.Get this, since I didn't get to take my laptop with me everywhere this week like I usually do, I took my notebook instead and worked on fleshing out more parts to this story. Most of what I did was write a synopsis of how I want each part to go and wouldn't you know I'm up to part 35 and I still have more to tell!!! Yeah, whoa! And here I said I wasn't going to write a series....this is turning into an epic! LOL.

3. Yeah, um, about the feeding incidents....let's just say 'To Err is Vampire' and leave it at that. LOL.

4. For those of you speculating about Aidan...

5. Reminder: Time is very different for vamps

6. See Greek words below...there's a reason why the characters belong to certain covens...

7. This is dedicated to Cayla aka loviedovie for introducing me to The Spill Canvas. 8)
Okay...

LB4- , yeah those balls are meant for covens to 'meet, do business, socialize, and find mates'. , gee everyone in this story is the enemy, huh? Well, I did say this was going to be a dark story :? . I know, everyone loves to hate Tess, .

Zanity- Hmm...wonder why  ? Sorry, see note above. , shame on La'Shon!

roswell- You will see Aidan's part soon  . Dang, such drastic measures you want Liz to take  !

M in Y- Tess...um... :? . , sorry about Wild Boys, see note above. You'll get the next update on Tuesday  .

Em- Thanks, glad you did.

Strawberry- You're welcome. Glad you liked.

LJL-

dmb- Yeah, eventually she should feed on her own, IF she wants too  . Nope, that's not what I meant...ever had a THICK needle pierce your skin? Now imagine teeth! Yeah, vamps use minds to prevent humans from feeling pain with the prick. It's supposed to be a euphoric feeling once they start sucking, so vamps just take the initial pain away.....the rest is real :? . Your guess is as good as mine, . Kivar's followers...hmm? , yes she does. Thanks, trying to keep her as dominating as Max, but at the same time they desperately NEED each other. Oh, I plan on having some romantic times  . , hmm, what could have given you that idea  . Glad you caught that scene  . Yep, double standard is the code for vamps, . Aw thanks  . Well, this story is surprising even me  !

candy- Ditto on all counts!

La'Shon- It was fun to write that scene of T/L/M. Yeah, Isabel's scene was another tough one to write :( . Welcome  . , it's okay, bump all you want  .

Gaby- The blonde when Max and Liz first met was an unnamed, uninititated human. Liz and Max never met Dessa. An heir? . She wasn't fully turned yet, it only works between vampires...

Cayla- Thanks. . I am dedicating this part to you since you introduced me to The Spill Canvas and I am using one of their songs in this part  . Thanks.

Shattered- , um... Glad you liked it, nope she was never intended to be EVIL, just BAD. , they will.

BehrObsession- , glad you liked. We'll see about Liz  .

83AA- That was my intention with Kivar  . Hmm....followers? LOL, Jerry S, huh? Ooh! I love that movie!

And now.... introducing....

Part 20

*Nearly 5 years later*

“Theos these shoes are killing me!” muttered Isabel.
“Well, no one forced you to wear them did they?” muttered Michael.
As Isabel shot him a dirty look, she answered, “They were the best shoes to go with this dress.”
“Then you should have picked another dress,” retorted Michael, before mumbling under his breath, “Or you could have just stayed home.”
As Isabel opened her mouth to spew obscenities at him, Liz intervened, “I’m going to go get something to drink. Isabel can I get you something?”
She turned a grateful smile on her sister-in-law, “That would be great. I’ll have some cider. No wait, do you think they’ll have something less fizzy?” she paused before exclaiming, “Ooh! I know, I really could use some coffee.”
Alex grimaced, “Honey, I think you should have some juice, it’ll be good for your stomach.”
Isabel sighed, “You’re right. Just see if they have anything like apple or grape juice and if it’s spiked with some negative O, I’d love you!”
Max chuckled as Liz nodded and began to steer the annoyed Michael away from the group.
“You sure you want to stay, honey?” Alex asked once Liz and Michael were gone.
“Yes. Besides, we haven’t been here that long. And I am the adelfi of the Archigos of the Aristomache, so I have to put in an appearance too.”
“Well, I’m sure they would have understood your absence. Max would have covered for you, right Max?” asked Alex.
Max simply grinned and said, “Anything for my beautiful adelfi.” Then he winked at her.
Alex couldn’t help but think his wife was the most beautiful pregnant woman in the world when she blushed the way she did at Max’s remark.

As Liz waited for her drinks, she continued to chastise Michael’s temper, “She’s seven months pregnant Michael, give her a break.”
“Yeah well, someone should tell her that the Hilarion Coven ball is no place for a hormonal pregnant woman. I don’t understand why Alex let’s her get away with these things.”
Liz rolled her eyes, “They love each other. Alex understands. Besides, it’s good for her to get out once in a while. She needs the exercise.”
“Yeah, well, maybe Alex should just take her walking down the street or something.”
Liz growled, “She’s not a dog, Michael.”
“No she’s a bi…”
“Finish that statement and I’ll see to it that Max not only reprimands you, but you get demoted also,” she hissed, narrowing her eyes at him.
Michael instantly shut his mouth, but continued to silently sulk.

Liz and Michael returned to the group and distributed the drinks. Michael handed Alex his while Liz handed Isabel hers. Then Liz took the last drink from Michael and handed it to her husband who wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her on the cheek in thanks.
As Michael took his place behind Liz and Max, he continued to silently glare at Isabel.
Moments later, he stiffened as he caught sight of Tess walking up to the group. Before he had a chance to intervene, Liz held up her hand, indicating that he should hold his place.
As Tess made her way to them, Liz could feel the tightening of Max’s arm around her waist in anticipation. Even Alex had placed his arm around his wife, as if expecting her to leave his side.
Tess came to stand in front of Max and Liz and gave a nod which would have been perfectly respectful if she hadn’t looked up at Max coyly from under her eyelashes. “Good evening to the house of the Aristomache. We are well met.”
Everyone nodded and responded with “Good evening to you too.”
“I hope this night finds all of you doing well.” She turned to Isabel and smiled, “Congratulations on your new pethi. I wish it good health.”
Isabel nodded, “Thank you, Tess.”
“So, Tess, I’m surprised to see you here tonight,” said Max.
She gave him her sultriest smile, “My coven was invited and I came in lieu of my mother.” She left out the part that she knew he’d be there, even though everyone knew that was what she was thinking.
Over the past few years, it was impossible to avoid running into Tess since her uncle was the Archigos of the Akakios and her father was the Dioikitis. It had boded well for the coven when their Dioikitis had married the Archigos younger sister, Tess’s mother, despite the fact that they were not syndeos.
Tess often went to the balls in place of her mother who preferred to stay home and work on her businesses. What Cynthia had in business savvy was equal to what her daughter had in socialization skills. Tess knew how to work a room, especially when it was full of men. There was rarely a time when Cynthia lost a business deal she really wanted, just like there was rarely a time when Tess lost a man she really wanted. And despite the fact that she knew a syndeo wasn’t interested in the opposite sex anymore, much less able to procreate with one, she still wanted Max.
It was completely obvious to everyone since Tess never hesitated to openly flirt with Max every time they attended the same balls. It often resulted in her and Liz verbally sparring with each other and twice more since the first time, Liz had physically put Tess in her place. Still, Tess shamelessly flirted and Liz had come to expect it and accept it with grace. It helped that Max never returned Tess’s advances and made sure everyone, including his own syndeo, knew how much he loved Liz.
“Oh, she busy closing a good deal?” asked Max, who wasn’t that bad of a businessman himself. He had always respected Cynthia’s business savvy.
Tess shrugged, “I guess so since she couldn’t seem to tear herself away from the computer tonight.”
“Must be a really good one then. I’m sure your mother will close. She’s a very smart woman.”
“Too bad the apple fell too far from the tree,” mumbled Liz.
Tess held her chin up, “I’m just as determined as she is. Everyone always compares me to my mother when they say we both know what we want and always go out and get it.”
“I’m certain your mother is smart enough to know when to call it quits before the deal goes sour,” retorted Liz.
“Her deals don’t go sour. She can take them and turn them around, making them work better for her,” replied Tess.
“Well, good for her. But you must know, the deal you want so badly isn’t going to work out for you at all and if you want a long productive life like your mother has had, then I suggest you find a new deal that isn’t so hazardous to your health,” hissed Liz.
Tess gave her a fake smile as she began to disappear from sight. Max growled and pulled Liz into his body, effectively shielding her from all sides. When Tess appeared again, she frowned at Max as he hissed, “back off Tess or I’ll let her finish it.”
Tess pouted, “Whatever do you mean, Max?”
Liz scoffed, “Oh please. You just don’t know when to quit do you? Let go of me Max.”
Tess batted her eyelashes, “Yes, let go of her Max, she doesn’t need your protection.”
As Max straightened up and released Liz he said, “Liz isn’t the one who needs protection, Tess.”
Before she had a chance to respond, Alex grinned and greeted the man walking towards them. “Kyle! Is that you?”
Kyle grinned as he shook Alex’s hand, “Yeah, man. It’s good to see you again, Alex.”
“Good to see you too. It’s been too long, huh?”
“Way to long, my friend.”
Alex chuckled, then turned to Isabel with a smile, “Kyle, I’d like you to meet my isyzygos, Isabel.”
As Kyle shook her hand he said, “Pleased to meet you Isabel, I’m glad Alex found someone to share his life with. He’s a great guy.”
Isabel smiled, “Yes, he certainly is.”
Kyle indicated her stomach with a nod, “Congratulations to you two.”
Alex grinned, “Thanks.”
“Your first?” asked Kyle.
Alex shook his head as Isabel answered, “We have a daughter, but she is visiting friends this night.”
Kyle raised an eyebrow, “Your second?”
Alex nodded, “Vanessa will be turning 117 this year.”
Kyle whistled, “Wow, Alex you didn’t waste any time did you?”
Isabel chuckled, “That was my fault actually. I didn’t want to wait to become a mother and we were extremely lucky to have our daughter so soon.”
“Well, then, I guess this is congratulations again. Alex, looks like you are one lucky man.”
“Thanks, Kyle. I feel like it.” Alex replied as he slipped his arm around Isabel’s waist.
“So, how do you two know each other?” asked Liz.
“Oh, Theos, I’m sorry.” Alex motioned to each in turn, “Kyle, this is Liz Evans and her husband Max Evans, Archigos of the Aristomache Coven.”
Kyle’s eyes went wide, “Aristomache!” He quickly gave the respective nod and eagerly shook Max’s hand as he continued, “It is a great honor to meet you Maximillian Evans.” He turned to Liz with a smile, “And you too, Mrs. Elizabeth Evans. It’s a great honor to meet you both.”
Liz grinned, “Nice to meet you Kyle.”
Max nodded, “Same here, Kyle.” He motioned to Michael standing behind him, “This is our Dioikitis, Michael Guerin and this is Tess Harding of the Akakios Coven.”
Kyle shook Michael’s hand before turning to Tess and taking her hand in his. As soon as their hands met, Kyle felt something flutter inside and when he looked into those clear blue eyes that were much lighter than his darker blue ones, a shiver ran up his spine. He smiled as he realized she was experiencing the same thing as he was. He saw her pupils dilate and felt the sudden tightening of her fingers in his.
He raised her hand to his lips and kissed the back of it before he looked up into her eyes again, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Tess.”
She smiled and spoke in a low sultry voice, “Nice to meet you too.”
Kyle continued to smile at Tess as he went back to answering Liz’s earlier question. “The Euphranor and Hilarion Covens send their children to the same schools since we are so close together. My sister and I were close friends with Alex and his family.”
“How is Maria these days?” asked Alex.
Kyle grinned, “A handful as always. She’s here tonight, I’m surprised you haven’t run into her yet.”
“Really? That is something, isn’t it?” replied Alex.
“I can go find her, if you want to say hi.”
“Sure! It would be great to see her again.”

As Kyle went off in search of Maria, Alex was suddenly bombarded with questions.
“He’s way too young to have gone to school with you, isn’t he?” said Max.
“How do you know him, really?” asked Liz.
“Is he related to the Hilarion nobility?” asked Tess.
“How close are you, really?” interjected Michael.
“What is Maria to you?” questioned Isabel.
Alex looked from one to the other before he raised his hands for quiet and answered their questions. “We all went to the same school, but I actually knew Maria better since she’s closer to my age. Our families go way back even though we’ve intermarried into different covens. We still remain close. Kyle isn’t related to the Archigos of the Hilarion coven, but he’s got some cousins who work closely with the Archigos. They are part of the nobility in the coven. We’re all just close friends of the family, that’s all.”
As Isabel narrowed her eyes and started to say something else, Kyle returned with his sister. The moment Alex and Maria saw each other, Maria squealed and launched herself into his outstretched arms much to Isabel’s dismay.
“Alex! Oh it’s so good to see you again, brother!” Maria exclaimed as she backed up and looked up at him with a grin.
Alex chuckled, “It’s good to see you to Maria.”
“How have you been? Where have you been? We so have to get together and trade stories soon!”
He nodded, “Yes, we have to. I’ve been great, been busy.” He paused to pull Isabel in to his side, “Maria, I’d like you to meet my isyzygos, Isabel.”
Maria’s eyes went wide, “Really? Oh my goodness!” She shook Isabel’s hand as she said, “You managed to snag a great guy, Isabel. He is treating you right, isn’t he?” she asked as she cast a warning glance at Alex.
Isabel couldn’t help but grin at the sibling-like banter between Maria and Alex. “He’s been a wonderful osizigos, Maria.”
She nodded, “Good to hear.”
Isabel smiled and introduced Maria to the others. “Maria, this is my adelfos, Max Evans.”
“The Maximillian Evans of the Aristomache?” she asked.
Max grinned, “That would be me.”
Maria chuckled as Isabel continued, “His isyzygos, Liz.”
“Ah yes, the woman who saved the soul of the beloved Archigos of the Aristomache. I am honored to meet you.”
Liz smiled, “Thank you. It’s nice to meet you too, Maria.”
“Their Dioikitis, Michael Guerin,” continued Isabel.
Maria smiled as she allowed her gaze to sweep over him, “Pleasure to meet you, Michael Guerin.”
Michael shook her hand, holding it longer than normal. He looked into her bottomless green eyes as he responded with a husky voice, “Pleasure to meet you too, Maria.”
Maria’s eyes remained locked with Michael’s brown ones as Isabel finished, “And Tess Harding of the Akakios Coven.”
Maria nodded in acknowledgement without taking her eyes from Michael, “Nice to meet you.”
Tess wasn’t offended since she was too busy trading looks with Kyle, but she still replied, “You too, Maria.”
As Isabel and Alex traded knowing looks about Tess’s behavior, Liz spoke silently to Max. Well, well what do we have here?
Max smirked, Looks like your prayers may be answered, agapo mou. Tess may no longer annoy you.
Theos, I hope so, answered Liz.

The group continued to get to know both Maria and Kyle until Kyle excused himself to go talk to one of his cousins who’d come up to get him. Soon after that, Tess left in search of Kyle.
Under the guise of catching up with Alex and getting to know his new family, Maria remained behind to stay close to Michael. The two of them continued to sneak looks between each other without anyone else picking up on it.
Soon, even Maria excused herself from the group after agreeing to visit Alex, Isabel, and the others one day.
After Maria had departed, Isabel gave Alex a smile, “She was nice.”
As Alex nodded, Michael scoffed, “Yeah, now that you know she isn’t going to steal your man.”
Isabel glared at Michael as Liz and Max hissed, “Michael!”
Michael simply shrugged, “Whatever. I’m going to go refresh myself, you guys need anything?”
Max looked at Liz then shook his head, “We’re fine, just go and try to refresh that mood of yours while you’re at it.”
Michael gave him a sarcastic nod and motioned for one of the other guards to take his place as he left the group.
Isabel continued to glare at his retreating back, “What is his problem? You really should discipline him Max. He is your Dioikitis after all.”
Max sighed, “He’s just had a long stressful week that’s all. I’ll talk to him when we get home.”
Isabel huffed, “Talk to him? Really Max, you let him get away with to much. If I was his Archigos, I’d put him in his place.”
Liz placed a placating hand on Max’s arm as she said, “Michael does whatever Max says Isabel. He always has the best intentions for Max and for me. I couldn’t have a better man in charge of my safety. I know Michael would kill himself if he let anything happen to me or to Max.”
Isabel frowned as she realized Liz had the right of it. Michael had always been there for Max and he took his job as Dioikitis very seriously. Even she couldn’t find fault in the way Michael respected and looked out for Max and Liz.
Alex rubbed soothing circles over Isabel’s back as he asked softly, “You okay, Isabel? You look a little tired.”
Isabel sighed, “Yeah, I’m starting to feel a little tired. I guess it’s time to call it a night, huh?”
Alex smiled, “Are you ready to go home?”
Isabel nodded, “Yeah, I am.” She turned to Max and Liz, “You two going to stay longer?”
Max nodded, “Just for a little bit.”
Isabel gave him and Liz a hug before she let her husband escort her home.
Michael returned and gave them a raised eyebrow, “Alex finally take his hormonal wife home?”
As Liz rolled her eyes, Max narrowed his eyes and spoke in a stern voice, “That is my adelfi you are talking about. I would appreciate it if you had more care in the way you treat her regardless of her hormonal state.”
Michael straightened up and gave his Archigos a respectful nod, “Understood, my Kyrios.”
“Good.”
Liz chuckled, “Oh yeah, my prayers have definitely been answered!”
Max and Michael looked in the direction Liz was looking and saw Tess and Kyle walking out of the ball together. Kyle had his arm around Tess’s waist.
Max slid his arm around Liz’s shoulder and leaned down to whisper in her ear, “Why don’t we go home, agapo mou and let me answer your prayers even more.”
Liz giggled, “That sounds wonderful, Max.”
Michael simply fell into step behind the retreating couple. As they walked out of the ball, Michael glanced around the room until his eyes met with a pair of green ones. He gave her a nod and she responded in kind. He graced her with a smile before he turned to follow his charges out of the room.

An hour later, Liz and Max leisurely strolled through their rose garden holding hands. They made their way towards the bench near the back of the garden where they had decided to spend the rest of the night alone together.
Max got comfortable on the bench and Liz curled into his arms. She leaned her head back against his shoulder and looked up at the sky. Max pressed his lips against her temple and slid his arms tighter around her waist.
S’agapo. Max whispered into her mind.
Liz sighed and settled into his arms more. Isabel seems happy, doesn’t she Max?
She does.
What do you think she’s going to have this time?
I don’t know, but Isabel wants a boy.
Well, I guess it’s because she already has a girl.
Yeah, I think so.
Silence settled between the two of them for a while. Max was content to just hold Liz in his arms. He closed his eyes and began to breathe in her scent as he let her heartbeat and warmth lull him into a semiconscious state.
The whisper of his name soon brought him back to earth. “Max?”
His eyes slowly opened as he realized Liz had spoken. She had turned her head to look up at him. “What is it, akribos?” he asked.
“Do you think we should think about having our own family?”
Max blinked as her words registered. He saw the hesitancy in her eyes and realized she had been afraid to ask. He gave her a gentle smile as he caressed her cheek.
“And what do you think we have been doing every time I take you to bed?” he whispered.
She frowned, “But, why haven’t you mentioned this before? And if that’s true, shouldn’t I have already been pregnant years ago?”
He sighed, “Forgive me. I keep forgetting you were born human, not knowing our ways.” He placed his forehead against hers as he continued, “It is common knowledge among our kind that when an Archigos marries his Archiga, they immediately begin to work on having children. The reason being is that sometimes it takes years, even centuries before a female conceives.”
“Really? Why is that?”
He shrugged, “No one really knows. There’s been speculation and there’s still tons of research being done to discover why. Many believe it ties in to our slow aging process. Since we age so slowly, our bodies may be slow in preparing for other things. Some say it’s because some higher power decided this was the way to control the population of our race. Still, there are some couples who have managed to conceive immediately after they have come together. Isabel and Alex are one such couple, but look how long it took for Isabel to have another child.”
Liz nodded as she let all of that information sink in. “And this still affects us? Even though I was human?”
Max nodded, “Yes. As a human, you were probably more fertile. But for some reason when humans and vamps mate, children cannot be conceived. Probably because they are not of the same species really. Once a human is turned, they can only conceive children with their syndeo, since that is the only way they could be turned and because that bond renders them incapable of being with anyone else. Still once a human becomes a vamp, their aging slows down too so, pair them with one who’s been a vamp all their life and it’s still an unpredictable thing.”
“Right. I get it,” she sighed.
Max tilted her head and brushed his lips against hers, “Don’t worry, agapo mou, we will have a child someday. I’m sure of it. And I know we’ll love it as much as we love each other.”
She smiled against his lips, “You’re right. We will.”
Max nodded and wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing her body flush with his and drawing her lips into a full kiss. As the two lovers melted into each other, the moon kept a silent vigil overhead, bathing them in its silver light.

Tess moaned as Kyle’s hands shaped her curves sending electric pulses all through her body. His lips pressed kisses into her skin as well, touching her in places that she’d never thought of as arousing. Then again, she realized every little touch, every little kiss he gave her set her entire body to humming.
Just like that first touch of their fingers had at the ball earlier that night. She’d known just as he had that there was something between them and when she’d found him later, she had been thrilled to find out that he would be going home with her that night.
Kyle slid his body up hers and pressed her down into her mattress. He curled his fingers with hers as she parted her legs and wrapped them around his. He looked into her eyes as he slowly slid into her waiting depths. As he buried himself to the hilt, she gasped and widened her eyes in amazement when she felt the connection that sparked between them. He groaned in acknowledgement.
“Tess,” he whispered, “tell me you feel it too.”
She nodded her agreement as he began to slide in and out of her. “Yes,” she panted, “Oh, yes. Theos, Kyle.”
She closed her eyes and squeezed his hands in hers as he began to pick up the pace. Tess had never expected to find her omologia. She had been more than content to spend her life going from partner to partner enjoying those experiences. Granted there were partners she’d enjoyed more than others and had gladly returned to them time and again, but suddenly all of them paled in comparison to what she was now feeling with Kyle.
Her toes began to curl as she felt the pressure beginning to build inside of her. Just as she thought she couldn’t take it anymore, she felt his fangs piercing her breast just over her heart.
Kyle moaned as he tasted his omologia for the first time. Her blood was warm and tasted like cinnamon. As he fed deep, he caught the images of her life flitting through his mind. He realized immediately that she had lived for nearly 328 years, much longer than his 126 years. He saw what it was like for her, growing up as the pampered daughter of a coven Dioikitis. Felt what she felt when she watched her mother seem much more interested in the current business deal rather than in her own daughter. Felt the pride and love she felt for both of her parents regardless of her much absent mother.

There's a special place inside my skull
Where your DNA it codes my cerebrum
In full stuttering and drooling
My shredded throat will try to sing for you

Then he saw her older years, as she began to socialize and learned how to work a room to her advantage. He growled as he caught images of her with other men and he nearly lost it when he saw that one of them was the current Aristomache Archigos.

What do you say? Would you marry me today?
The moon would gush all inside out
and my nightmares would go away

Tess was aware of the way his thrusts had sped up to match his drinking of her blood. She heard his growl as his body gripped hers tighter. She began to get so lost in how he was making her feel that she almost missed the words faintly growled into her mind. Mine! You are mine! Taste me as I’ve tasted you and become mine completely!

What do you say? Would you devote yourself today?
Like riding out a sinking ship as it lowers into the bay
Please stay.

She threw her head back and screamed as her orgasm took her by surprise. As she continued to ride the wave, she lifted her head with the help of his hand behind it. When he arched back, allowing her to reach his chest, she sank her fangs into his skin and drank deep without hesitation.

The blood collects and flushes out your cheek bones
I've got this secret garden and you are the only one who knows
I'm stuttering and drooling
My shredded throat will try to sing for you

Just like with Kyle, the images began to flit through her mind. She too realized that she was older than him and she too got to see what his life had been like. Kyle’s life was one full of love and laughter. His older sister had been the one to watch out for him, but they had been close. Together they had grown up surrounded by a huge group of family and friends.

What do you say? Would you marry me today?
The moon would gush all inside out
and my nightmares would go away

She gasped as she realized that she was only the second woman he’d ever been with. And she realized with a sense of sadness that she would be the last one too. Even as she realized that, she was aware of his feelings. Those feelings explained the growls she’d heard both inside and out of her head. Kyle had glimpsed her past as he’d fed from her. She knew without a doubt that he’d seen everything. She knew the reason he’d growled those words in her head was because he had seen her with all of those men she’d been with before him.

What do you say? Would you devote yourself today?
Like riding out a sinking ship as it lowers into the bay
Please.

She clutched him tighter, wrapping her body around his and flipping them over. As she straddled him, she rode him in time to her feeding. She heard him moan and sent images of them together as well as how he made her feel to him, hoping he was receiving them. She wanted him to know that despite her past, it was nothing compared to him now. She wanted him to know that she would gladly give it all up to remain in his arms.

I'm cutting ties with all the jealous zombies
I need to feel your warm body on me

Kyle moaned once more as he caught the images she was sending him. He saw himself through her eyes. Felt what she felt for him. He saw that she didn’t care about the past, but wanted what she had with him to continue. As the knowledge of her growing love for him began to wash over him, he threw his head back and roared in bliss.

When the sun goes down and the shadows grow
Just trust in us and forever know
Please keep holding on to me

Tess felt the tears sliding down her cheeks as she felt him explode inside of her. Yes. She whispered in his mind, I am yours. Only yours.

Michael slid his hands up Maria’s thighs as he gazed up at her. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever laid eyes on. For him, that was saying a lot. Michael had never been one to even give most woman the time of day. Most of his life had been so consumed with being the best Dioikitis for his Archigos that he’d only had a handful of lovers at the very least.
But there had been something about this green eyed beauty that had made him seek her out when he’d managed to leave Max and Liz’s side at the ball earlier. Once he’d found her, she had invited him to her place later. He’d told her that he could go once he’d seen his charges safely home and she’d given him directions to her place. Just before he’d left her, she’d given him a kiss that had left him breathless and had left him wanting more.
That night, Max and Liz couldn’t have arrived home safely fast enough to his liking, but once they were, he was out the door. Maria had been just as eager to be with him if the way she’d answered the door had been any indication. She’d been wearing nothing more than a long silky robe that matched the color of her eyes.
Michael had instantly lost himself in her eyes, then in her kiss that he hadn’t even been aware of his clothes being removed and that they had made it to her bedroom until they had tumbled into her bed together. After that, he’d gladly lost himself in the pleasure she’d been giving him for most of that night.
Hours later, it was close to dawn and she still wasn’t finished with him. Which was the reason why she was currently straddling him as he gazed up at her.
She gave him a sultry smile just before she arched her back and rode him faster. Her fingers curled around his wrists when he’d placed his hands on her hips to help her move over him. She moaned deep in her throat as he lifted his hips, sending him deeper into her.
“Oh yes, that’s it baby,” she purred, “deeper, just like that.”
Michael closed his eyes as he felt her walls beginning to tremble around him. He tightened his hold on her and pulled her down as he deepened his thrusts.
With a cry, Maria came, making him groan as he felt her liquid heat drench him. As she continued to ride out her orgasm, he joined her throwing his head back with a loud groan. Maria leaned over him, rotating her hips until she was certain his orgasm was over. Then she brushed her lips over his and slid off of him to lie besides him.
Michael continued to lay there with his eyes closed enjoying the way his body felt. He smiled when he felt her fingers stroking his arm. Opening his eyes, he rolled on his side to face her. She was on her side too. He lifted a hand to her cheek and caressed it.
His sigh was tinged with regret as he said, “Dawn is coming. I have to leave soon.”
Maria arched an eyebrow, “I’m a vampire just like you are, you’ll be safe here with me.”
He shook his head, “It’s not that. I have to return to work.”
“You have to go back to work? Now?”
He nodded.
“But it’s going to be dawn. What can you do in the day time?”
He sighed, “I’m the Dioikitis, my job never ends. It’s my duty to always be there for my Archigos, regardless of what time it is.” At Maria’s frown he continued, “Even his job never ends, Maria. He’s Archigos and that’s not something you can take a break from.”
She nodded, “I know.” She paused before asking, “Just how long have you been Dioikitis?”
Michael shrugged, “For a little over a century.”
Maria’s eyes widened, “A century? Just how old are you?”
He raised an eyebrow, “I’m two hundred and twenty-three.”
Maria quickly calculated that in her mind. “That means you were…”
“I was one hundred and eighteen when Max made me his Dioikitis.”
“Theos, but you were so young.”
Michael shrugged, “Max needed a Dioikitis. He’d been struggling to get his coven back together since he was a hundred and thirty-six. That made him the youngest Archigos ever. But he did it even without a strong Dioikitis. He told me he’d had his eye on me ever since he’d seen me training with several other of his new guards. When I turned one hundred and eighteen, he asked if I wanted to be his Dioikitis. If Max Evans specifically picked me, if he knew I was the best one to be his Dioikitis, how could I have possibly turned him down.”
“You must have really impressed him then, if he named you his second.”
Michael nodded, “Yeah, that’s what I thought too. I had no idea I was the best one until Max came and told me that he thought so.”
She nodded, “You obviously respect him a lot.”
He smiled, “He’s a good man. He’s been through a lot more than I’ve ever been through. I was too young when my parents died in the war, but Max, he wasn’t. He saw his parents killed. He saw our coven nearly get obliterated. Yet he managed to stay strong and kept our coven from completely dying out. Later, when I worked besides him, I watched as he constantly put his people’s needs before his own. It’s hard not to respect a man who really cares about his people.”
Maria smiled and slid her hand over his jaw, “Yeah, I can definitely understand that.”
Michael returned her smile for a few moments until something clicked in his mind. “Wait. Alex said you were closer to him in age than Kyle was.” He quickly sat up and exclaimed, “Just how old are you!”
Maria chuckled, “Alex has nearly a century and a half on me. I’m only three hundred and nineteen.” As Michael gaped at her, she asked, “What? Is that bad?”
“Bad? You’re nearly a century older than me!” He shut his eyes as he realized what he’d just said. “Wait, that’s not what I meant.”
“What did you mean?” came Maria’s strained voice.
He opened his eyes and looked at her, “Maria, I don’t care if you’re older than me. It’s just that I actually thought we were closer in age.” He leaned over her and ran his fingers through her hair, “You look really young for your age, you know.”
She smiled, “You think so?”
“Oh yeah, and way too beautiful too.”
She chuckled as he closed the distance and sealed their lips together. As he felt the familiar tingling begin on his skin, he sighed and pulled away from her.
“I have to get going.”
She nodded, “I know.”
He got up and began to get dressed. When he finished, she was waiting near the door for him in her robe. She walked him to the door and gave him a kiss goodbye.
As he pulled away from her, he asked, “Can I see you again?”
She smiled, “When do you get off?”
“I can get away around midnight.”
She nodded, “I’ll be here.”
He gave her a kiss on the cheek before stepping back. “Until midnight, Maria.”
She watched him disappear as she said, “Midnight.”
