Political Espionage: The Game of Survival

Prologue

“No, I didn’t …” the deep voice cracked, words soured his mouth as he vociferated his innocence. He braced as another wave of disorienting pain flooded his muscles causing them to spasm, convulsing sending them into shock. In the corner a dog howled, more of a high piercing plea mimicking and masking the terror emitting form that small concrete space.

He fought to maintain consciousness, fighting to form the words, the words of betrayal, of a traitorous affair. Larek tightened his muscles, in a vain attempt to stave off the blows. His words were cut short as bile filled the throat, choking him, cries lowered in volume as they slowly petering out.

Word by word the Special Forces of Ki’var’s elite Red Fiber Brigade, extracted them reforming the wards into sentences of partial truth, partial lie; a confession steeped deep in blackmail and political intrigue from Larek’s lifeless body. In the end they hoisted the remains high above the arches to the palace fortress as a warning to all who dare to plot treason against Ki’var.

Political Espionage: The Game of Survival

Part 1 of 4

Larek knew he was a dead man the minute he walked into the room, he saw it in Ki’var’s demeanor, he saw it in the Queen’s very human looking eyes. Suddenly a surprised gasp of agony escaped from Larek’s throat as he felt a blunt object strike just behind the knees, inflicting pain from his throat as he felt a blunt object strike inflicting pain just behind the knees. His assailant, a guard, acting on order struck again, his rod shattered the bone as Larek collapsed slowly to the ground, his weight now longer sustained by his legs. The next few hours were suspended into one long scream, echoing the palace walls, penetrating into the heart of every Antarian close enough to sense the vibrations, to the feel the pain, to the hear the voice frozen upon the wind.

The tale, part delusional, part truth, comprised of horrible consequences, a tale that was forcibly coerced, a tale that revealed a web of blackmail interlaced with deceit, lies, and sexual transgressions. The treason had begun long ago, long before the royalty of Antar was executed. Ava had mesmerized him, led him into her bed, into the King’s bed committing his first bout with treason. She was a succubus of males, controlling them, that was her gift, her expertise learned with years of practice and dedication to the dark arts baneful seduction.

Larek allowed himself to be blackmailed, to be lured by sexual exploits with Ava, to allow himself to give over the secrets of the kingdom. Secrets of war, secrets of tactics, they were all exposed to Ki’var’s eyes. It did not take long before the military might of the Antarian Army under Rath to diminish and begin to fail. Soon Rath was in a quandary as his armies fell one by one, all his maneuvers were useless, the enemy was always one step ahead.

Political Espionage: The Game of Survival

Part 2 of 4

Larek stood atop worn stone bell tower, watching the scene play out before him, a night he would never forget. Dawn was just breaking, leaving behind the evil menacing landscape. The night had been dark, darker than any known in Antarian history, even the stars were swallowed by the ebony film that covered the sky. He could see Ki’var pacing the expanse, examining the events below from all the different angles.

The distance between the outer walls of the complex and the palace itself was forty miles; the terrain was a mixture of perfectly manicured gardens, lakes, dense thick forests, and rolling hills of long grains. Before his men were done crimson would become the predominate color staining the ground while bodies of the fallen would become the new flora. The inner sea snaked it way up, the mouth of the river Jazel, edging the palace on the southern edge. Ki’var could see his men already in place spanning the width of the channel blocking any escape.

The royal fighters had begun their passes dropping energy balls in the surrounding areas trying to cut off Ki’var’s men before they reached the outer walls. Rebel fighters soon round the Mountains of Nathur and the dogfights began in earnest. Every once in a while a fighter would explode; the remains would rain down on the battlefield below.

His men were already in the palace, as Ki’var watched in glee as the east outer wall fell, the rumble shook the ground, dust choke out the sun. Larek had no choice but to stand there and watch the home world of his mother’s family destroyed. This was only the beginning, although his own home world, that of his birth and of his father’s ancestors, would be spared from the future wars, his payment in silver from Ki’var for his betray. Larek knew the other planets in the federation would be attacked upon Antar’s fall. No longer would there be a King to protect them, and if the granolith fell into Ki’var’s hands, the results would be catastrophic. Ki’var would push the envelope, igniting war after war across the galaxy bringing down the meek and the strong alike. He would use the Grandolith, use the power for evil and in the end no one would be able to stop him.

Larek watched with disgust as Vilandra enter the overlook, the wife of the great warrior Rath, reduced now to nothing but a common sex slave. They were all his slaves, his minions to obey him, if not by ones means then by another. Their free will was stolen from them, they had relinquished their souls to the devil, to the Lucifer of Antar, Ki’var himself.

Vilandra could hear the screams of the people, the blasts and explosions from the servant’s village, and the screeching of the fighters overhead, yet in her mind these were nothing more than the birds chirping while she and Ki’var had a lovely picnic on the lawn watching a play. Ki’var was powerful in his ability to mind warp, creating an illusion that beguiled and deluded Vilandra, her mind weaken from the drugs he supplied her through his connection to the staff that prepared her food. The drugs were slowly administered over the last three months, when he took her for the first time in his arms he gave her a large dose combined with the invasion of her mind locking it to his.

Vilandra smiled sweetly sipping her imaginary tea and munching on a nonexistent sandwich. “It was so lovely for Zan to give you the day off my love.” Vilandra purred to Ki’var motioning for him to sit next to her. “How is your position as my brother’s new advisor and only advisor I might add.”

“Fine my dearest Vilandra,” Ki’var leaned over and squeezed her breast, taking down the material feeling the flesh under his palm as he dropped her dress to the floor.

Larek finally tore his eyes away from the spectacle as Ki’var stripped her of clothes forcing her to strand naked before the men. Vilandra felt the cool breeze flow over her exposed breasts; a sudden gust caused her hair to fall out of place. She adjusted her crown, a crown she must wear since she was, after all, the reigning Queen of Antar. Zan had given up his throne to Ki’var; the announcement would be made tomorrow during a great banquet.

When Larek turned, the worse was yet to come as he was faced with the death below him. As Vilandra continued her spiel, the lie about Zan, Larek watched his friend fight for his life. Quickly he was transfixed on the deaths of those that had trusted him, those that had treated him as family. He watched the Royalty of Antar executed one by one in battle. The first to die was Rath; the warrior vicious and victorious in battle after battle, famed throughout Antar went out in a blaze of fire taking his enemy with him. Larek took a gulp of dry air as he watched a man he admired for so long fall slowly to the ground, his body consumed by fire in a slow agonizing death.

From the other direction, Larek’s eyes were drawn to his deepest and oldest friend Zan who was the next to die. Larek watched as Zan desperately fought to protect his mother. His shield began to fluctuate widely as his powers were dissipated. Within seconds after his shield dropped, his body was consumed immediately by an onslaught of soldiers, each vying to carve out his own piece of the King as a trophy. It took only a small fraction of time, a few blinks of the eye for the call to go out that the King was dead.

Larek dropped his eyes as the soldiers stood, the ground was stained rich in crimson, blood copper permeated the nostrils; his friend was laid strewn about. It was more than he could handle, how did he allow himself to be blackmailed so easy, to be laced into this predicament. He turned and climbed the stairs down to the main floor, all about him chaos ensued as the soldiers looted and raped the place. No one was safe not even the Queen, who was caught off guard, an act of friendly fire. Her neck was broken then her dead body defile as drunken animals one by one had their way with her.

Ki’var only smiled and laughed when he heard she had died, it meant nothing to him; she would have been killed anyway. What he wanted was the power and now he had it, that and his ticket to the throne Vilandra, the King’s sister and the wife of Rath. Sadly as is the case with the need to dominate others, she too was duped like Larek. Drugs were added in small doses to her food through the acts of a kitchen worker loyal to Ki’var. The drugs slowly poisoned her mind, clouding it and dropping her defensive powers. She yielded herself to Ki’var to become his slave, it was her also that gave away the secrets, it was she that led them into the locked city that fateful night, through the passages into the very heart of the palace itself.

Vilandra watch dispassionately as her husband and brother died the drugs having created a zombie like effect. She smiled as but soon the drug subsided; her body began to tingle as the numbness wore off. It did not take long for reality to hit Vilandra, and once when he realized that she had betrayed her husband and brother the guilt set in. Before Ki’var or anyone could stop her she screamed like a banshee, a scream of pain, a scream of remorse she ran right off the edge of the tower, flung her body onto the pavement below. Within seconds, her body was hacked to pieces, the mob of whipped in a frenzy were slaughtering any and all royal blood in sight.

Political Espionage: The Game of Survival

Part 3 of 4

Those images were burned into Larek as he left the tower following Ki'var as he took over the blood soaked throne room announcing his new order, the new reign. Larek knew this was wrong he had to somehow make right what was wrong. He knew secrets that were kept hidden from all, secrets that even Zan himself was unaware of. Secrets of their DNA, of a world far off, of a royal lineage that was part alien, not full Antarian but a hybrid from long time in the past. It was because of this secret, that DNA the royal line was so powerful. Those mental gifts, their immense concentration and sheer ability to manipulate complex matter came from deep within their cortex, a cortex that was similar to the inhabitants of a bright blue marble deep in space.

Larek quickly rounded up those who were loyal to the throne of Zan, those who knew how to change and alter the DNA. It did not take long as the scientists worked feverishly, for time was against them. The hard part came when they were to recover the souls. That fell to the ancient rites, to the old religions, the ones that still used mystical forces of nature. To the highest master was given that chore to call forth the souls and pricier them for the bodies.

The old master came up through the tunnel system, one that Ki'var had not found. There he entered the room where the bodies were displayed, to instill terror into the people. Night had fallen; little time remained before the souls would be lost forever to the world above. The guards were easy to elude with some sleeping powder that was blown into across the room, as the master and his assistant made their way. They carried with them the black conical shaped granolith, which inside lay the ability to bend time and space. Their souls would reside in the cone until the clones were ready to receive thus the granolith for the first time in their history, since they could remember the granolith would leave Antar.

One by one the master using the old methods coaxed the souls out and into the cone. Soon the bodies were noting but shells, as the essence of Zan, Rath and Vilandra were taken. What was unknown to Larek at the time, as he stood in that smoked filled room, was the addition of Ava to the mix. For one of the assistants was a spy, an infiltrator that made sure the new regime would live.

A ship was made ready, in a hanger just outside the walls of the palace, into that ship were placed the DNA of the royal lineage and the granolith. Four servants were also placed inside, they were lower species than that of Larek or the royal line called shapshifters by some because their bodies were more fluid and thus they could assume many forms.

They made good servants for the royal line because their DNA had been altered years before to accept any order from a royal without question. But little did the royal line known at the time, nor the did military of Rath know, that the shapeshifters DNA had degraded and changed over time. They were now able to choose free will and in many cases ignore an order or question, except that of a direct one. They were the ones who had supported Ki'var, changing their appearance making the battles even more complicated each time.

Larek watch as the pods were installed, three of them, inside small eggs were starting to develop; they had no time to make full size clones as Ki'var was feared to have gotten wind and would storm them. The fetus would develop on earth and with a few years they would return to Antar in their full power to overtake the throne and kill Ki'var. Larek prayed deep that his actions would be forgiven and his life spared. He vowed at to help Zan's mother and the royal supporters but he would have to do it deep undercover or else he would be killed as well as his race.

Once the scientists had panted the embryos and all was ready the ship left Antarian air space. From the time of death to the departure was no more than ten hours. It took fourteen good men in the science and religious fields to secure a future for Antar. Fourteen men who then met in the temple and took their own lives, to safeguard that secret, to make sure their King was reborn.

Now came the double-cross, as through the back door five other pods were delivered. One was Ava, brought in by the spy who gathered her DNA. The other four were brought in by the shapeshifter that came to be known as Nasedo.

He had his own plans and deals with Ki'var. He planned to have the duplicates, similar in many details except that of a soul and some vital DNA material, brought to Antar if his first plan did not work. For he was the one who masterminded and plotted to have Ava collected. If Ava died or something happened before a child could be secured, Nasedo would produce the dupes as an alternative to the original. He figured Ki'var would be so pleased with his initiative and thoroughness he could secure himself a seat on his right side.

Political Espionage:
The Game of Survival

Part Four of Four

As Ava left earth, she still could see the anger in Max's eyes, she had felt his rage, knew his heart was cold for her. She damned Michael for being so noble and staying on earth, or was it Rath's damn sense telling him to be wary a warrior's trait. The trip through the coldness of space was relatively short; the use of wormholes and space portals made for the ease of transportation. When she landed as expected the capsule was meet by guards and Ki'var who had first was pleased to his sister until it was reveal Zan was not in place. He was angry at first until he sensed the child. At least he could control the throne through the child a puppet he could kill later, a spoor sickly child that just died.

For the next couple weeks, Tess was treated as the returning Queen Ava, she had all her heart desired, all she could dream of. She sat on the throne next to brother with the heir in her belly, showing to all of Antar who ruled. She was there when Larek was walked in. She was there as he was tortured into admittance. She was there as Ki'var nailed him to an x and slowly carved up his body. She was there as she heard his last words "Long live the old empire, Long live King Zan and the Warrior Rath." Larek screamed out one last time as Ki'var cut out his heart, holding it up for all to see still beating.

Ki'var attention then turned to Tess, he looked into her mind, invading her mind, raping her of thought, of memories, of her future. That was a warning, those who dare to defy to Ki'var would die, even his own sister. Tess for the first time in her life felt fear, felt the tinge of her life ebbing away. She had never been in fear, she had never been place in the position of being lower than another. She had always been superior in this life, far surpassing all humanoids, she had forgotten as Ava she was not the most powerful.

"For your sake my sister, you better hope that bastard inside you carries the royal seal. I will have the throne of Antar as mine, I shall rule in his name, with legitimate rights. When he dies I shall be named king as he legal and only heir."

Tess rubbed her stomach, the child inside kicked and squirmed. It would not be long now, she would soon give birth. Tess stood proud, a smug look was upon her face, for she knew that the seal would be on the child for as long as Max carried it, his son would be entrusted with it.

But little did Tess know that after leaving Earth, things had taken a turn for the worse. Max had physically died before his son was born. The seal had passed to the second in line for Antar with there were no living legitimate heir. That would be his second in command Michael, the leader of the military might, the Rath of Antar. Little did she realize when his son would be born there would be no royal seal, there would to pass on. She would face death as that of her son, only a miracle would allow Tess to live and return to earth with her son.
