Part 20

Liz had waited for Rath to close the door before she had made her way to Zan’s side. She sat down on the bed right next to him and remained there, keeping vigil until he woke up.

It was nearly an hour later when she felt him stir. Glancing at his face, she saw his eyelids flutter a few times before he moaned softly.

She leaned in and ran her fingers along his brow softly whispering, “Zan? Can you hear me? It’s Liz.”

He blinked his eyes, trying to clear his vision as he looked up at her.

Liz smiled at the sight of his clear emerald green eyes. “Hi.”

“Hi,” he mumbled.

“How are you feeling?”

“Sore and a little tired,” he said, trying to sit up.

As he began to frown at the chains holding him hostage, Liz placed a calming hand on his chest, “It’s okay. They did it for your protection. We weren’t sure if you’d wake up whole or not.”

“Whole? Did I…?”

Liz nodded, “Yeah, your father pushed you too far it seems. You got angry and attacked him. Do you remember any of it?”

Zan closed his eyes and shook his head negatively.

Liz sat up and continued to stare at him. He couldn’t remember any of it. That meant it was even worse than they all thought.

Liz sighed, “Why did you lie to me?”

He opened his eyes and looked at her, “What do you mean?”

“You told me you were handling it. Rath said you weren’t that bad.”

Zan sighed, “I thought I could handle it, I didn’t want to worry you.”

“You didn’t want to worry me! God Zan, you wanted me to be honest and open with you and here you are hiding things from me!”

“Liz…”

“No! Listen to me! What if you hadn’t come back this time? It took two shots Zan! Two of them! And they said it still took you a while to go under! They weren’t even sure you’d wake up yourself! And what’s worse, you can’t even remember what you did! This has gone too far!”

“Liz, please. I’m okay now. I came back.”

She closed her eyes, “And what about next time, huh? Do you think it will take three shots then? Or will I lose you forever?”

“I can do this! I know I can! We just have six more days and…”

“Zan! Your mother said the healers think you only have about two more days! If you’re lucky! Do you really want to risk that?”

“They’re just scared.”

“We all are! And I’m sorry, but I don’t want to risk losing you like that.”

“Liz?”

She slowly stood up from the bed and looked down at him. “I don’t want to wait anymore, Zan. We are here, in your room, in your bed and I want to be yours.”

Zan lay there stunned as Liz put her hands on the hem of her shirt and lifted it up to reveal smooth skin. Swallowing, he whispered, “Liz, please. Don’t do this.”

She paused in her removal of her shirt, “Why? Don’t you want me?”

“Yes, but not this way.”

“If not now, when? After the wedding? Zan, don’t you get it? There isn’t going to be a wedding if you don’t do this now.”

He shut his eyes and Liz could see him clenching his jaw. Through gritted teeth he growled, “I won’t use you like this! You mean more to me than a sacrifice Liz!”

“Oh Zan, don’t you think I know that? I know why you wanted to wait, I do. But you know we can’t. I want to do this. Look at me.” She waited until he opened his eyes, “See? This is me, your ulhi’maos, who wants to be one with you. I want to love you.”

Zan took a deep breath trying to keep calm, but when Liz continued to remove her shirt, he felt his body go rigid. His eyes went wide as Liz let her shirt fall to the ground before she began to undo her jeans.

Curling his fingers into fists, Zan felt the beginnings of his claws as he helplessly watched Liz shimmy out of her jeans and her sandals. By the time she was down to her bra and panties, he was beginning to hyperventilate as fear began to grip him.

Liz walked towards him and he shut his eyes, feeling the wildness beginning to rise again. He ground his teeth together and dug his claws into his palms trying to leash the wildness. But he knew it was a losing battle when it had begun.

Liz leaned over the bed, noticing Zan’s tightly shut eyes and his tensed body. She reached out to wipe away the sweat beginning to form on his brow. “Zan, look at me. Just relax and look at me.”

He made a soft sound, a cross between a whimper and a growl.

Liz didn’t back down, “Open your eyes, dimo agalo.”

Zan’s body arched off the bed, surprising Liz who instantly pressed her palms against his chest, trying to push him back onto the bed. He opened glowing green eyes staring at her helplessly for a moment before tossing his head back and letting out a deafening roar.

Liz’s ears hurt from the sound, but she refused to cover her ears or show him any sign of fear. She would beat this, she had to if she wanted to save her love. Leaning over him once more, she gently caressed his jaw, talking to him in a soothing voice, “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m right here. We’ll be okay, mo’ba.”

Zan began to struggle, twisting on the bed, trying to get his limbs out of the chains and growling as they refused to give. Liz slowly slid over him, until she was straddling his waist.

“Zan, Tazolo sa nem.”

When he continued to growl, she leaned down and brushed her lips over his. He hissed softly, but allowed her to kiss him.

Liz deepened the kiss until she could slide her tongue into his mouth, brushing it against his. She felt his body shudder beneath her and softer growls rumbled through his chest where her hands lay.

She heard his voice in her mind, I’m sorry Liz. I wanted it to be perfect for you.

I’m with you, Zan. How can this not be perfect? she replied while sliding her hands down his chest, to take the hem of his shirt in her hands.

Liz slid down his body until she was over his thighs, then she leaned down and pushed his shirt up, exposing his chest. She looked up to see Zan looking at her with pale green eyes. She gave him a smile as she lowered her head and pressed a kiss against his abs.

Zan’s breath hitched at the feel of Liz’s lips against his sensitized skin. He gripped the chains in his hands as she trailed kisses up his chest, all while pushing his shirt up too. As she straddled his hips once more, she gently pushed his shirt over his head, then behind it to keep it out of his way.

Liz leaned down and kissed him again, pressing her chest against his. He moaned into her mouth and almost whimpered when she moved away, to sit up. He stared at her as she reached behind her and undid the clasp for her bra. Zan’s eyes widened as she began to slowly remove it, but his eyes stayed trained on hers.

When she tossed the bra to the side, she sat there watching him. His chest rose and fell with his heavy breathing and Liz could feel him trembling. She slid her hands over his chest and whispered, “It’s okay to look.”

He swallowed and lowered his eyes to her chest. “Liz…” he hissed as he shut his eyes once more.

Liz sighed and slid down his body once more. She began to undo his pants as she kissed and nibbled on his skin. When they were undone, she moved off of him to slide them down his hips. Her eyes went wide and she gasped as she realized he wore nothing underneath them.

The soft growling whimper came from Zan again and she heard his inner voice again, You don’t have to do this, if you’re not ready.

She looked up at his face, his eyes were clenched shut again. She smiled as she realized he thought she was shocked by what she saw. She had never seen a naked man like this before, but from all the times she’d been near Zan, she had an inkling that he wasn’t small. No, she wasn’t shocked by his body, she was actually thrilled and very excited.

She went back to pushing his pants down to his calves, “I’m ready.” She said as she leaned over him once more, her mouth near his ear, “Can’t you smell how ready I am?”

His response was a quiet rumbling growl which sent shivers down Liz’s spine, and not the frightened kind either. Liz could feel her heart beating faster, in time to the beat of Zan’s. She heard it clearly. He was as excited as she was, but she knew his excitement was tempered with fear for her.

Curling her fingers around his jaw, she turned his head towards hers and kissed him again. She took her time kissing him. Savoring the taste of him and allowing him to get lost in her kiss. She felt him responding to her, felt his body relaxing as he kissed her back.

When she was certain he was relaxed enough, she slid over him again, pressing her body over the length of his. He moaned in her mouth and a slight tension in his body was the only sign of his lingering fear. She slid her hands down his shoulders, his chest, and rested them lightly against his ribs.

Slowly pulling her mouth from his, she kissed the corner of his mouth, then nibbled her way down his jaw and neck. As she made her way over his collarbone, trailing her tongue over it before kissing his chest, she could feel him trembling again. But she knew, this time it was from anticipation, not fear.

She moved her lips over his chest and swirled her tongue over his right nipple, eliciting a gasp from him. He clutched the chains in his hands once more as she gently sucked his nipple before moving to the other one and giving it the same treatment.

Zan kept his eyes closed, unable to look at what she was doing to him for fear he’d lose control. Instead, he was beginning to lose himself in a world of feeling as Liz’s hands, mouth, and body wreaked havoc on his skin. He’d thought it’d been hard before to touch her with clothes on. But now, he could feel almost all of her naked skin and his body was telling him it was heaven.

He felt her lips moving up his chest once more and then she was kissing him again. He willingly opened his mouth to her, allowing her to suck him in. He was so lost in her that he was vaguely aware of her legs sliding over his and moving towards his hips.

Liz continued to devour Zan knowing this was the only way to keep him from panicking. As she kissed him, she slid her underwear off before shifting up to position herself over him. She placed one hand on the bed for leverage and slid the other one down to his hip. She kissed him for a few more moments before quickly straightening up and impaling herself on him.

Zan’s eyes opened wide as he heard Liz gasp. She sat still over him with her eyes clenched shut. He went limp beneath her as he saw a single tear slide down her cheek. “Oh Liz,” he whispered hoarsely.

Liz opened her eyes to look down at Zan and saw the way his eyes glowed a dull red. She sighed, “I’m okay. It just hurt for a moment that’s all.”

Before he could protest, she began to slowly rotate her hips. Closing her eyes, she focused on the way he felt inside of her. She could feel him tensing up beneath her again, so she linked her mind with his. Feel me Zan, the way I feel you. Let me love you. Don’t you know how long I’ve waited to feel you inside of me like this? Idi agalo esu.

Zan moaned at her words, even as he felt her begin to lift up and slide back down his length. He watched her as she slowly rode him, her face showing him the pleasure she felt from him. He watched as she tilted her head back slightly, her lips parting as she panted. He could feel her fingers digging into his sides as she quickened her pace.

He couldn’t take it any more. Watching her love him was more than his body could handle. He shifted slightly, distributing his weight so that he could lift his hips to meet her downward thrusts. She moaned as she felt him deeper inside of her and leaned forward, placing her hands on his shoulders.

Opening her eyes, she looked down into his and smiled. His eyes were now a milky white as he stared right back at her. Her heart flipped as she saw an answering smile spread over his lips. She used her thighs as leverage to keep riding him as his moans and pants began to match hers.

She could feel the pressure beginning to build inside of her. Tightening her body even more, she picked up the pace, wanting to reach the end quicker. Suddenly she gripped Zan’s sides and threw her head back with a cry of ecstasy.

It was the only warning Zan got before he felt her liquid heat wash over him. The sudden tightening of her walls around him was all he needed to mix his cry with hers.

Liz felt Zan explode inside of her even as her own orgasm continued to roll through her body. She kept her hold on him for as long as she could, trying to prolong the pleasure for both of them. When she felt him shudder and relax beneath her, she slowed her movements. Slowly, she lay down over his body, tucking her head into his neck.

They lay like that for a while, allowing their heartbeats and breathing to return to normal. When their bodies had cooled down, Liz lifted her head to look at Zan.

He turned his head to look at her and she smiled when she saw his clear emerald eyes again. She shifted slightly to kiss his lips and delighted in the way he immediately deepened it.

When she pulled away to look into his eyes again, he spoke, “Idi agalo esu, Liz. Vergita dimo ulhi’maos.”

Tears welled in her eyes as she responded, “Vergita. Idi agalo esu vergita, Zan.”

**********************************************************************

Rath paced back and forth in front of the stairs. Every now and then he’d glance up the stairs as if expecting to see Liz running down them.

It had now been almost two hours since they had left Liz alone with Zan and he was really beginning to worry. Especially since it had been too quiet for the last hour. He even wondered if they would have been able to hear Liz’s call for help from the first floor. Now that he thought of it, he didn’t think Liz’s voice would carry all the way down from the fifth floor.

Rath turned to face Phillip who was sitting on the couch next to his wife, “Your Highness, I think we’ve let enough time go by. We should go check.”

Phillip sighed as Diana spoke, “Leave them be, Ra’thlan. They’re fine.”

“How do you know?” He protested, “It’s been too quiet for the last hour! What if she called to us and we couldn’t hear her all the way up there!”

“Trust me Rath, if we didn’t hear Liz, we would have heard Zan. If he managed to get loose and hurt her, he’d be on his way down here, don’t you think?”

Rath opened his mouth, but immediately shut it when he realized Diana was right. If Zan had gotten loose, the last thing the wildness in him would want was to be contained. He would definitely try to get out of his cage and run rampant through the kingdom until someone put him out of his misery.

Frowning, he turned to look up the stairs once more and let out a gasp of surprise as Liz slowly drifted down. His eyes did a quick inventory of her physical being and he immediately noticed her hair hung loose and she wore a robe with Zan’s initials on it.

The others in the room came to their feet as Liz placed bare feet on the last step and looked at them all. “He’s all right now.” She turned to Rath and held out her hand, “I need the keys to the chains.”

Rath frowned, “Are you certain? What if he has a relapse and…”

“Ra’thlan,” Diana interrupted as she locked eyes with Liz, “Give the ipa’sprin the key.”

Silence descended as Diana’s words sunk in. Rath turned to Liz and realized what had happened as he took in her appearance once more. Without another word, he reached into his pocket and handed the keys to Zan‘s princess.

Liz nodded her thanks and turned to Diana, “I’ll take care of him tonight. You should all go and get some rest, you can come see him in the morning.”

Diana nodded, “Of course.” She gave Liz a smile, “How are you feeling?”

Liz gave her a soft smile, “I’m whole, so is your son.”

Diana’s smile widened, “I’m glad. Thank you, ko’dau.”

Liz’s eyes let Diana know she understood that Diana considered her to be her daughter now, since she was as good as married to Zan.

Phillip nodded his agreement, “Yes, thank you, Elizabeth.”

Liz nodded as the others bowed to her before leaving the room behind the King and Queen. Once the door closed, she made her way back up the stairs to the bedroom.

Zan opened his eyes when he caught Liz’s scent. He smiled as she closed the door, locked it, and made her way to the bed. He took in the sight of her wrapped in his large robe and decided he liked how it looked on her.

Liz slid onto the bed and pulled the keys out of the robe’s pocket. She held them up, dangling them in front of him with a grin, “Will you be a good boy if I let you go?”

He arched an eyebrow, “What if I don’t want to be?”

She chuckled, “I could keep you chained like this all night, you know.” She slid a finger down his chest, “I kind of like you like this.”

Zan playfully growled and nipped at her finger, “Unchain me, go’malar! So I can show you how a wahani ipi’sapri loves his ulhi’maos!”

She giggled and did as he said, unlocking the chains from his wrists and his ankles. She tossed the keys on the floor as Zan sat there massaging his wrists for a moment.

He looked into her eyes and asked, “How are you feeling?”

She chuckled, “You really are like your mother aren’t you?” At his questioning look she said, “She asked me the same thing.”

Zan blushed at the realization that his mother knew what had happened between him and Liz.

Liz reached up to caress his cheek as she answered, “I told them I was whole, just like you are.” She leaned in to kiss his lips as she continued, “So they know what happened. It was inevitable anyway. I had to save you, Zan. Your mother knew it was the only way.”

Liz crawled into his lap and wrapped her arms around his shoulders as he wrapped his around her waist. “I don’t regret it at all. You have to know that Zan, I loved every moment of it because I was with you.”

Zan closed his eyes as he held her tighter, “I know. I’m glad. I love you Liz. I promise I’ll always love you.”

She pulled away from him with a twinkle in her eye, “Good. Now, my ipi’sapri, show me how you would love your ulhi’maos.”

With a grin, Zan pulled her down into the sheets.

Okay, remember, new translations at the bottom of the post...

Part 21

Liz was walking down the corridor that led to Lonnie’s rooms. She had just finished having the last fitting of her wedding gown and had promised Lonnie they would get together for a walk through the castle grounds before dinner.

She smiled to herself as she thought about the last few days that she’d been there. Things had been hectic, but not as hard or as scary as she’d first thought it would be.

Diana and Lonnie were wonderful with helping her learn the things she would need to know about being a member of the royal household.
Zan’s friends, Kyle, Charles, and Rath had all shown her around the city while explaining things to her. Each one of them were experts at certain things, so through them she was learning about security, technology, and politics.

But the one who seemed to be bending over backwards these days was Phillip. Liz knew he felt extremely guilty for what had happened to his son and he was extremely grateful to Liz for saving him. Liz had forgiven him when she’d realized that he was just being a father. Phillip had only wanted the best for his son and had been completely clueless about what was between Zan and Liz. However, the moment he knew what his mistake had been, he’d changed completely.

Zan hadn’t been so easy to forgive his father for what he’d done. The following day, when he and Liz had finally emerged from their room and he had seen what he’d done to Kyle, he’d gotten the full account from those who’d been there. Zan had apologized again and again, especially to his friend for nearly ripping his arm off, but Kyle said he had understood that Zan wasn’t in his right mind. Still, the moment Zan had come face to face with his father, he’d given him a piece of his mind.

Phillip hadn’t even had the chance to apologize before Zan stepped up to him and laid into him for everything he’d done. All Phillip could do was stand there looking pale as Zan hurled insults and accusations at him. It had taken Liz to step in once more to calm him down. It hadn’t escaped anyone’s attention that all it took was a palm on his chest, the other on his cheek, and a soft yet firm word from Liz and Zan was calm again.

After that, Zan only seemed to tolerate Phillip’s presence and Liz noticed he rarely spoke any words to his father at all. Still Phillip treated both of them with respect and went out of his way to help Liz adjust to her new life. While Zan kept his encounters with his father to a minimum, Liz enjoyed the time she could spend with the King and anyone else from this world since it meant she got to know them better.

Of course, her favorite person to spend time with was Zan. Unfortunately the only time they seemed to have to themselves lately was when they retired for the night. By that time, both of them were usually exhausted from the days activities. Still, they would cuddle up together in their huge bed and tell each other what they’d done that day.

Liz loved that time with Zan. To just lie there and hold him in her arms without worrying if he was going to bolt from the bed because he was on the verge of losing it was something she cherished. Ever since that night they’d made love, he had gone back to being the wonderful man she’d fallen in love with in the first place. Warm, caring, and gentle he would lie next to her and patiently listen to what she’d learned about his world.

Still, there were a few times when he’d start something and then pull back before it went to far. Liz had told him not to stop, but he asked if it would be all right to wait until the wedding night. She’d wanted to roll her eyes again at his chivalrous behavior, but she understood his wanting to wait just a few more days. As much as it frustrated her, especially since she already knew just how wonderful he was, she knew the wait would be worth it.

Liz rounded the corner and continued walking down the corridor towards the stairs that led to Lonnie’s rooms when a hand grabbed her arm and yanked her into a small room. She collided with a solid chest with a squeak and looked up into her favorite pair of emerald eyes. Before she could ask what was going on, he’d shut the door, leaned her against it, and attacked her lips.

Liz moaned into his mouth as she parted her lips, allowing him access. She slid her arms around his shoulders and arched into him.

Zan slid one arm around her waist, pulling her closer to his body even as he leaned them towards the door. His other arm rested against the door, just above Liz’s head and supported most of his weight.

As Zan’s lips left hers, Liz lifted one hand and shifted her fingers through his hair.

Zan kissed his way down her cheek and nipped her earlobe before whispering in her ear, “Od’yia, idi khami esu!”

Liz curled her fingers around his head, keeping his lips close to her skin. “Idi khami esu alsis, Zan.”

She felt him sigh against her neck before he pulled away to lean his forehead against hers. He graced her with a handsome smile, “You’re really getting the hang of the language aren’t you?”

She laughed softly, “Well, I do have wonderful teachers in you, your sister, and mother.”

He chuckled, “Well, the others anyway, since I haven’t been able to see you except in passing these days.”

She frowned, “Is it always going to be like this?”

“No, it’s just because we are getting everything ready for the wedding day. But I promise, once that day’s over, you and I will have plenty of time for each other after that.”

Liz smiled as he rubbed her nose with his, “I’poskpro?”

“I’poskpro.” He answered.

**********************************************************************

Lonnie looked up from her window seat as Liz walked into her room. She stood up and placed her hands on her hips in a very impatient way as she asked, “Where have you been? I was beginning to think you’d gotten lost!”

Liz gave her a sheepish grin as she replied, “Sorry, I had to stop and talk to your brother for a few minutes.”

“A few minutes? Wow, the dress fitting must have taken longer than you thought huh?”

Liz simply shrugged and let Lonnie think that, especially since that was better than letting her know that Liz had spent more time in that little room getting hot and heavy with her soon to be husigos before they’d finally parted ways to continue with their errands.

“Okay, well, you ready to go for a walk around the grounds? It’s turning out to be a nice evening after all.”

Liz nodded, “I’m ready.” She knew the walk in the cool night air would do her good since she was still feeling a little hot from her encounter with Zan.

As Liz and Lonnie stepped onto the path that led towards the pasture and the pond on the other side of it, Lonnie said, “So, only two more days! You must be getting nervous?”

Liz smiled, “Actually, I’m excited. I can’t wait for that day to get here! After everything you all have told me and all of the things I’ve been doing to get ready for the day, I just know it’s going to be exciting. I just can’t imagine that an entire day is going to be dedicated to Zan’s coronation and wedding! It just seems so unreal.”

Isabel giggled, “It does, doesn’t it? Well, this will be the first time I’ll be experiencing something like this too, but I’m certainly looking forward to it.”

Liz laughed, “And you’ll be taking plenty of notes for when it’s your turn won’t you, Lonnie?”

Lonnie’s eyes went wide, “What? Oh no, I won’t have a day like the one you and Zan will have!”

As they neared the pond, Liz turned to Lonnie with a frown, “Why not? I thought you wanted to get married?”

Lonnie nodded, “I do, someday, but I’m not going to be King like Zan will be. That’s why your day is so extravagant, because you’re marrying him.”

Liz arched an eyebrow, “So? I’m willing to bet Zan would give you an extravagant wedding if you asked for it.”

“Those kinds of weddings are for kings and queens, Liz. I’m not planning on becoming a queen.”

Liz giggled, “Maybe not, but I know for a fact Zan will do anything for his little sister.” She paused for a moment before adding, “And Charles will do anything for you too.”

Lonnie gasped, “Liz!” She looked at Liz for a moment before looking around surreptitiously and whispering, “How did you know?”

Liz rolled her eyes, “No one is here Lonnie, relax! And how could I not know? It’s obvious you two are in love with each other.”

Lonnie stared at Liz, “Are we that obvious? Really?”

Liz shrugged, “Okay, not that obvious, but it’s clear to those of us who know how to look.”

Lonnie narrowed her eyes, “Like who?”

“Oh, me, your brother, Rath, Kyle, your mother.” Liz replied, while ticking off the names with her fingers.

“Oh my God, my mother knows!” she shrieked.

Liz sighed, “Lonnie, calm down. Of course she knows, she’s your mother and she’s incredibly astute.”

“But if she knows, then my father…”

“Doesn’t know.”

“He doesn’t?”

Liz shook her head, “Nope. Diana hasn’t told him anything, and I’m beginning to understand that Phillip tends to be completely oblivious to what’s going on right before his eyes unless someone points it out to him. That’s usually Diana, but she knows when to point it out and when to keep it quiet.”

“Wow! Did she tell you she knew?”

Liz grimaced, “No, that was actually my fault. I had assumed everyone knew and asked her if you had to be a certain age before you could marry Charles. She told me that you just had to be the legal age of sixteen before anyone asked for your hand. When I asked why Charles hadn’t asked for your hand yet, she told me because no one was supposed to know about your relationship since the two of you haven’t told anyone yet. That’s when I found out who knew about your secret and who didn’t.”

“She didn’t seem upset did she? I mean, did she say she didn’t think I should be involved with Charles or…”

“Lonnie, why would your mother be upset about you and Charles? You’ve known him since you were children.”

Lonnie nodded, “I know. I just think she’d say that he’s more of a brother and that I should set my sights higher, like on a prince or something.”

Liz gave her a smile and reached out to squeeze Lonnie’s hand in encouragement, “Lonnie, your mother loves you. And because she does, all she wants is to see you happy just like Zan is now. She knows it’s Charles that makes you happy, so she’s fine with that. Besides, she does see Charles as a member of the family already. He’s a great man, Lonnie. He’ll be a great husband for you.”

Lonnie blushed at that and reached out to draw Liz into a hug, “Thank you for that Liz!”

“You’re welcome,” Liz said as she hugged her friend back.

When Lonnie pulled away, she laughed, “See? I just knew we’d become like sisters!”

Liz giggled, “I know! I’m glad!”

Lonnie smiled, “So, when is Maria coming here? I can’t wait to meet her too!”

“Rath told me she would be here the day of the wedding. He’s going to go get her in the morning before she heads off to school like they planned.”

“I’ll bet she’s excited!”

Liz nodded, “Rath says she is. He’s been walking her through all the things she needs to do during the ceremony and she’s really excited about it. As soon as she gets here, she’s got to try on her dress to make sure it fits, then she has some time to spend with all of us before the actual wedding ceremony. I hope there won’t be too much to alter on her dress otherwise we may be cutting it close.”

“I’m sure it’ll all be fine. Rath gave all the measurements to the dressmakers and they were following his instructions to the letter, so it should be great.”

Liz nodded, “Yeah. I saw the dress. It’s beautiful, I know Rath will be speechless.”

Lonnie giggled, “Now that will be a sight to see!”

**********************************************************************

Maria silently closed the door to her room, not wanting her parents to hear her. She really didn’t think they would since their voices were so loud and they were on the other side of the house, still she didn’t want them coming out to question her again about how she was feeling.

It had been days since Liz had left with Zan and her parents were now starting to convince the others that it was time to start organizing a plan to overthrow the Mayor and the Hell’s Angels. As each day passed, Amy and William were more convinced that they were the ones who had Liz especially since Maria remained closed up to them.

If she wasn’t in school or in the barn with Rath, she was in her room hiding from her parents. They assumed that she was still mourning the loss of Liz, but that wasn’t the truth. She was just avoiding them since she just couldn’t tell them the truth.

Maria was truly happy for Liz. Rath had been keeping her informed about how Liz was adjusting to her new home and all of the wedding plans. She was actually excited to be going down there for the wedding, even if it was only for that day. It would be the first time she’d get to see the place Rath came from and where her best friend now called home.

Plus, she was going to be the maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding. She couldn’t wait for that. To be able to see just how extravagant the place would be and to see how beautiful Liz was going to look, it was already making her tear up. She just knew Liz would be radiant as she became Zan’s wife.

Rath had come this last time and handed Maria the letter from Liz. After she’d read the letter, the two of them had planned what Maria was going to do on the day of the wedding. Of course, not all of the time was spent on planning. She and Rath had spent some of the time making out too and discussing where their own relationship was going.

Ever since Maria had told him that she wanted to see the world after she graduated, Rath been afraid that she was going to leave him for good and asked if she was really leaving. Maria had hesitated in answering until Rath had laid his feelings for her out in the open. Maria was floored to learn that he was in love with her and didn’t want her to leave him. He told her that he wouldn’t make her stay, but he hoped that she had feelings for him too.

In truth, Rath wanted her to go with him to his world. He had confessed that to her, but Maria didn’t want to leave her parents all alone. She knew they’d be devastated at losing her too. She wanted to be able to tell them that she was leaving before it happened.

As she made her way into her bathroom to take a shower, she wondered if she would ever be able to tell her parents that she was in love with a man who wasn’t even human, but who seemed more human than anyone she’d ever known. Would they be able to understand that love transcended all boundaries, even that of species?

**********************************************************************

Liz felt the bed dip besides her and knew Zan had finally come to bed. She slowly rolled over to face him and spoke softly, “Long meeting?”

He slid his arm around her waist and responded, “Yeah, sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“You didn’t. I was waiting for you.”

He kissed her forehead before pulling her close to him. As she settled her head against his chest, he said, “You didn’t have to do that.”

Her voice was muffled against his chest as she replied, “I know, but I couldn’t really sleep until you were here.”

He chuckled, “Really?”

“Really. I sleep better when you’re holding me.”

He sighed as he buried his face in her hair, “Me too. I love you, baby.”

Liz lifted her head to graze his lips with her own. “I love you too, my handsome prince.”

He grinned at that and covered her lips with his. Deepening the kiss, he wrapped his arm tighter around her waist as she molded her body to his.

Liz slid her arms around his shoulders, one hand sliding into his hair to hold him to her. As Zan caressed her back with one hand, she lifted her leg to drape it over his hip.

Zan moaned as he felt her leg slide over his hip and tighten, pulling his groin closer to her heat. The way she slid her body sensuously against his told him exactly what she wanted.

He sighed and pulled away from her, resting his forehead against hers. Liz expelled an exasperated sigh, making him smile as he spoke, “I know, baby, I know.”

“Do you?” she asked, her voice sounding slightly annoyed.

He caressed small circles against her back as he answered, “Yes, I do. But we’ll be married day after tomorrow and then I promise I’ll love you the way a husband should.”

“I hope you understand that I’ll be expecting lots of it to make up for all this waiting you’ve been putting me through.”

He chuckled, “I know, Liz. I promise you that I won’t let you out of our bed at all on our wedding night.” He nuzzled her neck for a moment before whispering huskily in her ear, “And when you wake up the next day, you’ll be very sore, but completely satisfied.”

She giggled, “Oh, I’m counting on that, dimo ulhi’maos.”

He smiled at her before he gave her another long kiss, then they settled in for the night.

As she leaned back into his embrace, she whispered, “Goodnight Zan, idi agalo esu.”

His arm tightened around her as he replied, “Idi agalo esu, Liz.”

Within moments, she was fast asleep, safe in his arms. Zan remained awake, listening to her steady breathing and being comforted by her warmth and her scent.

It would be a while before sleep would claim him. His mind was too occupied with the events of the night. Liz had thought it was a long meeting that keep him busy. In truth, it had been something else. But Zan didn’t want the last thing on his beloved’s mind before going to sleep to be the discovery of the gruesome deaths of twelve of the guards who had been part of the group patrolling the western border.

Hi guys! I'm soooo sorry! :( If any of you are reading my other stories, you know I've been a little late in keeping up with all of them for the last 9 days or so because I loaned my laptop to my brother. I have all my stories stored on a memory stick, but can't use the stick without a port. Anyway, now that I have my laptop back, I have been working on part 22. Are you ready for this? Not only do I have this part, but I'm almost done with the part 23 too! I should have that part posted by the end of Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Erina-

spray- You certainly are a T.W.! We'll see. You're welcome. Oops! I'm over a week late! I'm sooooo sorry!

tequa-

nibbles- You'll see. Still waiting to show Rath and Ria later.

Vero- Zan will tolerate his father somewhat. Hmm... Sorry. :?

roswell- Sorry.

Natz- Thanks.

E_K- Isn't it? Well, I tried. It looks better than it sounds though.

LJL- :D

MinY- I promise, I'm working on it. Sorry. :? Yes, mischief and mayhem did begin, but it was their first time, so I'm going with the 'they were tired and sore' bit. :P

IzzyEvans- LMAO. I'm with you chica! Believe me, I understand. The answer is forthcoming, but not too soon. We still have a wedding, wedding night, a day after, and a long Rath/Ria interlude to deal with first.

Okay, folks, without further ado, here's the next part. Remember, part 23 to follow later in the day.

Part 22

The day dawned bright and clear and found Liz and Lonnie waiting in the living area of Zan’s quarters for Rath to show up with Maria. Lonnie was pacing back and forth behind the couch that Liz was sitting in. Just as Liz was about to tell Lonnie to stop pacing and sit down, they both heard the voices coming from the hallway.

“I’m holding you to that promise Rath! You are going to show me that bedroom of yours! Every little inch of it! Especially this king sized bed you claim to have! And I intend to try it out too!”

Liz grinned at the demanding voice of her best friend, but immediately put on a mock serious look with her hands on her hips as Maria entered the room. “Maria Amy Deluca! I so did not just hear you suggesting doing the horizontal tango with the Chief Advisor!”

Maria looked at Liz and threw her arms open wide. With a squeal, both girls threw themselves into each others arms and began jumping up and down together.

Lonnie laughed at the sight of the two best friends greeting one another while Rath had a look on his face that suggested that he couldn’t decide whether they were happy or crazy.

Maria pulled away and held Liz at arms length, “Oh chica, let me look at you! You are positively glowing! Life here definitely agrees with you!”

Liz beamed, “Yes it does Maria! This place is so amazing. And everyone I’ve met so far has been great. I can’t wait to show you around.”

Rath nodded, “Right, and on that note, I should get going.” He walked up to Maria and kissed her on the cheek, “You be good and try not to get into trouble okay? Stay with Lonnie and Liz?”

Maria rolled her eyes, “What am I? Three? Really Rath, don’t worry, I’m not about to go wandering in a strange world all by myself without my big, bad protector to keep me safe.”

Rath chuckled, “That’s my girl.” He gave her another kiss before excusing himself to go join Zan in getting ready for the coronation that would take place when the sun reached it’s highest peak.

Liz gave Maria another hug before motioning to Lonnie, “Ria, meet Zan’s younger sister, Lonnie. Lonnie, this is my best friend, Maria.”

Lonnie beamed at Maria and held her hand out to shake it, “It’s so great to finally meet you Maria. Liz and the guys have told me so much about you that I already feel like I know you.”

Maria laughed and shook Lonnie’s hand, “Same here, chica.”

Liz nodded, “Okay, ladies, let’s go and try on your dress Maria, then we can give you a tour of the castle and the area if we have time.”

“Sounds like a plan!” replied Maria as Lonnie giggled in glee.

**********************************************************************

Zan looked up from the map he was looking at with his father and the Valentis as Rath entered the room. He smiled at the twinkle in Rath’s eyes, “So, I take it they’ve been reunited?”

Rath nodded, “Oh yeah, and you were right, those three together are gonna be the death of us.”

Zan chuckled as Phillip raised an eyebrow in question, “Who is?”

“My sister, my fiancé, and his girlfriend.” replied Zan, a bit tersely.

Phillip rolled his eyes, but wore a grin on his face, “They can’t be that bad.” At Rath’s look he added, “Can they?”

Kyle snickered, “I’ll wager my pups they can!”

“Kyle!” Valenti chastised, but even he wore a grin.

“What? I’m just saying. After the stories I’ve heard from these two, I just know the three of them will get along like ducks in a pond!”

Zan laughed, “It’s birds of a feather, Kyle.”

“Come again?”

“You know,” Rath answered, “birds of a feather flock together.”

“Right. Yeah. That.”

All of the men laughed at Kyle’s attempt to understand human clichés and soon Kyle was joining in on the humor of it all. Their laughter was a welcome reprieve from the gravity of the situation they had been discussing up to that point.

**********************************************************************

After trying on her dress, which only needed to be tucked in a bit at the waist and shortened at the hem, Maria had gone with the girls to meet Diana. She had been a little flustered at meeting a real live queen, but Diana had quickly put her at ease. In no time at all, the four of them had been sipping a tea-like drink and trading stories about the men in their lives.

After a light brunch, Liz and Lonnie gave Maria the tour of the castle and the grounds. Maria really liked the grotto near the pasture and she was in awe of the rooms Liz now called home.

“An entire tower! You have an entire tower as your home!”

Lonnie shrugged, “Well, actually, she shares it with Zan, but yeah.”

Maria frowned, “Rath didn’t mention a tower when he was telling me about his rooms.”

Liz nodded, “That’s because he doesn’t have anything that elaborate. See, he has a house in the city, so the rooms he has here would be like a hotel suite of sorts.”

Maria nodded, “Right, so he just has a living area and a bedroom with a small bath?”

“Yes,” replied Lonnie, “I’m sure you’ll get to see it soon, but his living area has a small table in it for when he takes his meals there. And the bedroom has a bathroom that is more functional than anything else.”

“Still, Rath has an entire house! Zan and I will have to be content with a tower masquerading as an apartment.”

“Oh please, chica! That so called apartment you have is inside of a castle! I don’t think you have reason to gripe.”

All three of them laughed as they agreed with what Maria said and Liz gave Maria a full tour of the tower she shared with Zan.

**********************************************************************

Zan stood in front of the mirror with a frown on his face. Rath chuckled as he watched his friend frowning at all of the regalia he wore in preparation for his coronation.

“Really Maxwell, there’s nothing wrong with what you are wearing.”

Zan looked at Rath through the mirror and shook his head, “It’s not the clothes, Rath. I’m still thinking about our discussion earlier.”

The smile faded from Rath’s face. Sighing, he replied, “I know. We’ve done all there is to do for now Zan. Valenti has stepped up security and everyone who was supposed to attend has been accounted for and searched. Everyone is taking every precaution there is. You and Liz won’t be leaving the castle at all today, so we’ve secured that.”

Zan nodded, “I know. We’ve been over it again and again, but still.” He turned to look at Rath. “That’s two attacks within a few months, Ra’thlan. Something is going on. Something much more dangerous than my father seems to think.”

“I agree Zan. Which is why I’ve emphasized upping the security to Valenti over and over again. Now, all we have to do is get through this day and then we’ll worry about what’s going on at the borders okay? Once you’re King, you can do more inquiry into what’s going on.”

With a nod, Zan went back to perusing his royal attire until a smile broke out over his face, “I do look good, don’t I?”

Clapping his friend on the shoulder, Rath laughed, “You look very handsome, Your Highness. Your bride will certainly agree.”

**********************************************************************

Liz and Maria stood among the small group on the western balcony watching the coronation ceremony that was taking place on the much larger eastern balcony. Peering over the shoulders of the guards who were assigned to her, Liz could see Zan as he stood before his parents who were conducting the rite.

Dressed in simple flowing gowns, Liz and Maria had been escorted by Charles, Kyle and the other guards to the balcony where they were allowed to watch the entire thing. Lonnie had to be on the other balcony since she was a member of the royal family.

The entire kingdom had gathered to wait for the coronation to begin. And as soon as the sun had peaked, the King and Queen had appeared on the eastern balcony with the princess in tow. Immediately Phillip had begun the ritual for setting aside the responsibility of the crown, then he and Diana had introduced their son.

Zan had walked out then. He was accompanied by Rath and proceeded by Valenti. Once he stood in front of Phillip, the former King had reiterated the statement of naming Zan as his heir and continued with that part of the ritual.

Liz hadn’t been able to take her eyes off of Zan. She’d stared at him the moment he had appeared in the doorway leading onto the balcony. She couldn’t help it especially since the greens and gold of his outfit brought out the color of his eyes.

He was dressed in a vivid green velvet and satin jacket with black pants. The jacket was accented with gold braids around the edges and a golden belt. A thin dark green cape was draped back away from his shoulders and had an underside of gold satin. The outfit was completed by the black boots that clung to his calves and the thin silver braided circlet that signified his position as prince of the kingdom.

As soon as Phillip had proclaimed Zan as the new King, the silver braided circlet was removed from Zan’s brow and placed in a translucent box to be kept safe for the next heir. Then, Phillip had taken the golden ivy leaf circlet and set it upon Zan’s brow, thus signifying Zan as the new King.

Phillip had finished off the ritual of sealing the crown to Zan and Rath had moved to kneel before the new King. The Chief Advisor was the first to acknowledge King Maxwell Zander Evans and swore his allegiance to him. The next one to do so was Valenti, followed by the guards and Lonnie. The last to do so was the Queen and the former King.

At last, Zan turned to face the crowd gathered before the castle as Phillip raised his voice and formally introduced King Maxwell Zander to his people. As one, the people showed their honor by kneeling to their new leader, thus bringing the hour long ceremony to a close.

**********************************************************************

Liz stood on the stool in front of the floor length mirror as the women continued to flutter around her putting finishing touches on her gown. Lonnie and Maria stood to the side, the former wearing a smile of awe and the latter trying to hold back tears.

Liz sighed, “Maria! Would you stop! I’m not dying you know.”

“I know,” sniffed Maria, “It’s just you look so beautiful, Liz.”

Lonnie nodded, “She’s right, that dress is perfect on you. Zan is going to die when he sees you.”

Liz gave them a bashful smile, “You think so?”

“I know so!” giggled Lonnie.

Maria sniffed again.

Liz rolled her eyes, “Maria!”

“What?” She sighed, “Can I help it if I’m so happy for you? You’re getting married Liz! To a King! Oh my god! My best friend is going to be a Queen and she’s going to rule this world and she is going to be so good at it and she’s going to make babies with the King and give him lots of heirs and…”

Lonnie grabbed Maria’s face in her hands and stared into her eyes as she said, “Maria! You’re babbling!”

Maria blinked her eyes a few times before she hastily nodded, “Right. Need to stop. Okay.” She proceeded to take several deep breaths as Lonnie released her and turned to look at Liz again. “Isn’t she just radiant Lonnie?”

“Yeah, she is.” Lonnie agreed.

As Liz blushed, Maria’s lips trembled, “I’m so happy for you.” She sniffled again.

“Maria!” exclaimed Lonnie and Liz together in exasperation.

**********************************************************************

Rath turned to look at his best friend as they stood inside the antechamber behind the thrones. Zan was peering through the curtain at the nobles who were gathered in the throne room along with his parents who sat in their respective thrones on the dais.

He chuckled, “Nervous?”

Zan turned to look at Rath with a wide grin on his face and eyes twinkling, “Of marrying Liz? Not a chance. I can’t wait!” He turned to look back out the curtained entrance with a frown, “Tell me Valenti had the guards search everyone who entered the room.”

Rath sighed, “Relax Zan. They’ve all been searched. And Liz is going to enter from the side door, not the main entrance like in the past. The guards will be forming a barrier between the dais and the crowd, discreetly of course.”

Zan nodded, “Of course.”

Zan watched as Charles bowed to Phillip before making his way to where they waited in the antechamber.

Smiling, Charles asked, “Are you ready, Your Highness?”

Straightening up, Zan smoothed out his jacket and looked to Rath for assurance. At Rath’s nod, Zan grinned, “I’m more than ready.”

“All right then, let’s take our places gentlemen,” replied Charles as he stepped back to allow Zan and Rath to enter the throne room.

Valenti took up the place to Zan’s left as Rath stood to his right and Charles behind him. As they made their way to the dais, silence fell in the room. Zan moved to stand at the bottom of the steps that led to the throne, directly in front of his father’s seat. Rath stood slightly behind him and Charles stood behind Rath. Valenti moved off to the side so that he wouldn’t be an obvious distraction.

In silence, they waited for the bride and her escorts to arrive.

**********************************************************************

Liz was pacing the floor, glancing at Maria and Lonnie every so often. A frown marred her features as Lonnie sat next to Maria attempting to keep her from bawling and ruining everything for an already agitated Liz.

Liz growled under her breath wondering what was taking so long. She wanted this to already be over with since she didn’t think she could take her best friend’s near hysterics anymore. She was even beginning to regret naming her the maid of honor since she was acting more like the dramatic mother who was losing her daughter to marriage.

Lonnie was a blessed addition to the group since she was the only thing keeping Liz and Maria somewhat calm. If it hadn’t been for her, Liz was certain she would have already tossed Maria out and stormed into the throne room to demand that the ceremony begin already!

Liz heard a soft sniffle, followed by a soft ‘hush’ from Lonnie and whirled around to face them. Before she could begin laying into Maria for the third time, they all heard the knock on the door.

Liz narrowed her eyes at her best friend for a moment before she turned to the door, “Yes?”

Kyle opened the door and gave her a slight bow, “My lady, word has come that they are ready for you now.” He grinned, “Ready, my lady?”

Liz nodded and picked up her skirts. “Oh you have no idea just how ready I am!” she exclaimed as she rushed for the door, leaving Lonnie to drag a bewildered Maria behind her.

candy- She WANTS her husband.

Okay, without further ado..... part 23

Part 23

Zan looked up as his younger sister entered the throne room alone. Wearing a champagne floor length dress and carrying a bouquet of small green flowers, she gave him a smile and wink as she moved towards him.

Charles moved to meet her and offered her his arm. She slid her hand into the crook of his elbow and together they climbed the steps to the thrones. At the top, they bowed together to Phillip and Diana before taking their places at opposite ends of the dais.

Next came Maria, wearing a champagne dress trimmed in white and carrying a bouquet of small white and green flowers. With eyes downcast, she met Rath in the center and they repeated the process that Charles and Lonnie had done.

Once they were in their places, Zan turned to look at the door, his heart beating in excited anticipation. The door opened slightly, allowing Kyle to slip out first to take his place as Liz’s protection.

Then, the door opened wider and Zan got his first look at his bride. Liz stepped out of the door with a smile on her face and shining eyes locked with his. His breath left him as he took in the sight of her.

She was a vision in white and gold as she glided across the floor to meet him. Wearing a white strapless satin dress, bell shaped from the waist down, she carried a bouquet of white roses tied with golden ribbons. Tiny white flowers floated among the dark waves of her hair as it hung loosely down her back.

Over the skirt of the dress, was a golden velvet wrap, which started at the waist and formed an inverted ‘V’ over the white skirt. Over the top of her dress, she wore a golden velvet jacket. It was extremely form fitting and short with the sleeves only reaching to her elbows. From the ends of the sleeves, white satin bloomed in a bell shape, mimicking the skirts form.

Zan waited until Liz met him at the foot of the steps, a smile on his face and in his eyes. Liz thought he looked every bit as handsome as he had earlier that day. He was still wearing the green and gold outfit from his coronation and the cape swirled around his thighs as he moved. On his head was the golden ivy leaf circlet, naming him King.

He turned and offered her his arm. Liz slid her arm into his and switched the bouquet to that hand. Then she gathered her skirt in her free hand and they walked up the steps together. As they stepped up to the next to the topmost step, Phillip and Diana rose to their feet and stepped to the edge.

Maria took the bouquet from Liz and as the couple joined hands, Phillip and Diana began the ceremony.

Beseeching the powers that be, they asked that protection, strength, fertility, and undying love be bequeathed to the young couple standing before them. They asked that they be blessed with knowledge, justice, and compassion to rule.

Diana then turned to Liz and asked, “Elizabeth, do you promise to protect your husband from pain whether it be physical or mental?”

“I do.”

“Do you promise to give him your strength should he ever need it?”

“I do.”

“Do you promise to love him forever and give him the family he will need to nurture him?”

“I do.”

“Then I ask you to make these promises to him.”

Liz turned to Zan, “I promise to protect you from harm, to give you my strength and love for as long as you shall have me, and to give you the family you dream of. I promise to be by your side always, helping you to rule with knowledge, compassion, and justice.”

Diana nodded and turned to Phillip who held out his hand. She removed the signet ring from his finger and handed it to Liz. Liz took the ring and slid it onto Zan’s finger when he held up his hand to her.

She lifted his hand to her lips and kissed the ring saying, “With this ring, I pledge my love, loyalty, and life to you, my King. My husband.”

Zan gave her hand a squeeze as they lowered their joined hands and turned to look at his parents once more. This time it was Phillip who asked the questions to his son, “Maxwell, do you promise to protect your wife from pain whether it be physical or mental?”

“I do.”

“Do you promise to give her your strength should she ever need it?”

“I do.”

“Do you promise to love her forever and give her the family she will need to nurture her?”

“I do.”

“Then I ask you to make these promises to her.”

Zan turned to Liz, his eyes looking into hers with love. “I promise to protect you from harm, to give you my strength and love for as long as you shall have me, and to give you the family you dream of. I promise to be by your side always, helping you to rule with knowledge, compassion, and justice.”

Phillip took the ring from Diana’s finger when she held out her hand and handed it to Zan. Zan took the ring and turned to gaze at Liz once more. He returned her smile with one of his own as she lifted her hand. Curling his fingers around her hand, he slid the ring onto her finger. As he lifted it to his lips, his eyes once more held hers.

He placed a soft, lingering kiss against the ring before he said, “With this ring, I pledge my love, loyalty, and life to you, my Queen. My wife.”

Zan kept her hand in his as he lowered it to his chest, placing it over his heart. Holding it there, he turned to his parents and continued, “With these vows I have made my choice. I have chosen to honor the powers that be by taking to wife, my ulhi’maos. She who is my soul mate, my other half. Let all who witness know the bond we share is now unbreakable, even in death we will never be alone again.”

Phillip nodded in acceptance and spoke loud enough for all to hear, “Our kingdom has been blessed to have a King mated to his ulhi’maos. Let all who are here spread the word that the new King and his Queen are a true bonded couple, one that is looked upon with favor from the powers that be. Let everyone know that bad fortune shall befall them should they ever come between the King and Queen.”

He turned to Diana with a nod.

Diana removed the golden circlet from her head and stood before Liz, holding it over her head. “It has been decreed by forces unknown that this woman, Elizabeth Nancy Parker, is the true ulhi’maos of our son, our heir, King Maxwell Zander Evans. Since that is so, I hereby relinquish my title and position to my successor, Queen Elizabeth Evans.” With those words, she placed the circlet upon Liz’s head and stood back next to Phillip.

Phillip went down to his knees and bowed his head, “I offer you my allegiance, King Zan and Queen Liz, I ask that you accept my loyalty.”

Liz and Zan took their combined hands and placed them over Phillip’s head. Together they said, “We accept.”

Diana was the next to go to her knees as she repeated what Phillip had said. Once again Zan and Liz accepted her loyalty.

As she stood, Phillip announced, “People of the Underearth, I give you King Zan and Queen Liz.”

Zan and Liz turned to face the crowd as they all began to kneel in homage to the new royal couple. Zan turned to look at Liz as she stood next to him. He smiled and spoke to her silently, Esu isa tos leijha’mi, dimo va’sique.

Liz squeezed his hand, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes, Deh esu isa tos orahan, dimo va’siki.

Zan pulled her close to him and cupped her cheek with his free hand. Leaning down, he covered her lips with his, thus sharing their first kiss as husband and wife. With one hand still held in his, she used her free hand to slide her fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck as the kiss deepened.

Slowly Zan pulled away from her and spoke once more, I promise we will have plenty of time for more later, dimo agalo. But first, I have to show you off to my people. He winked at her as he linked arms with her and proceeded to lead her through the castle and up to the eastern balcony where he would show her off to the rest of the kingdom.

Soon the newly married King and Queen made their way back to the throne room, surrounded by their guards who had accompanied them every step of the way. Together, they walked up the steps to the dais and Zan helped Liz to get seated in her seat, before taking the throne next to her. He linked his fingers in hers as the people began to make their way up to the thrones to pledge their loyalty to the couple.

**********************************************************************

Nearly two hours later, Liz finally sighed in relief as she was allowed to get up from the throne to make her way into the grand hall for the dinner that would begin the celebration of the wedding ceremony. With Zan at her side, she looked around the huge room at all of the tables already laden with a feast fit for royalty.

She grinned as she realized her best friend and the Chief Advisor were noticeably absent. No doubt, Rath was finally showing Maria his rooms, she thought as she giggled to herself.

Zan smiled and leaned in to whisper, “What’s so funny?”

“Have you been missing your C.A. by any chance?”

Zan quirked an eyebrow and looked around. As he realized Rath was nowhere around he grinned, “It seems you’re missing a best friend too.”

Liz laughed, “Yeah, well, hopefully Rath has managed to keep her from crying a river by making her think of something much more satisfying.”

Zan gave her a wicked smile, Well, I’m certainly going to make sure dimo feigos is feeling very satisfied before the night is over.

Liz giggled before leaning into his side, I’m counting on it, dimo husigos.

**********************************************************************

Maria moaned as she arched her body up from the bed, molding it to Rath’s. She could feel his rough hands moving over the skin of her back.

Rath slid his tongue over the sensitive spot behind Maria’s ear before nipping her earlobe. Maria tightened her hold around his body, drawing him closer to her. Lifting her legs, she wrapped them around his, effectively bringing him closer to her heat.

Even through the dress, Rath could feel how hot Maria was for him. Most of all, he could smell her desire. He groaned at the heady combination of the feel of her body against his and the smell of her.

Lifting his head from her neck, he looked down into her eyes and saw the desire and love for him in the heavy lidded gaze. He swallowed as he said the hardest thing he’d ever had to say, “We should go. You have to get home before your parents start to panic.”

Maria sighed and pulled him down for another kiss, “Later.”

Rath allowed her to kiss him, enjoying the way their tongues slid against each others, but when he felt her hand making it’s way down to his pants, he pulled away from her and sat on the edge of his bed.

Maria frowned, sitting up in the middle of the bed, she held the dress up to keep it from falling down. “What’s wrong?”

Rath sighed and ran a hand through his hair, “It’s getting late, I don’t want to make it any worse for you.”

“I think I have an hour left, Rath.”

He turned to look at her, taking in her ravished state. He smiled and ran his fingers over her cheek, “Maria, as much as I want you, I think we should wait until a time we can enjoy it. Right now, it’s about our best friends happiness. When you and I finally are together, I want to be able to hold you for a while. Not take you and run.”

Maria smiled as she leaned her cheek into his hand, “I love you, Rath.” She saw the way his eyes widened a moment at her declaration. She went on to explain, “I love the way you always seem to think of everyone else before yourself. How you are always worried about the well being of Zan, Liz, and me. I love how your face lights up every time you see me and the way you hold me. I know how much I mean to you, how much you need me. Even with the temptation, you still manage to resist so that you can make things perfect for us.”

“I just want you to enjoy your time with me, Maria. I don’t want to ever hurt you.”

“I know. You and Zan are more alike than you know. Both of you are always so considerate when it comes to women.”

Rath smiled at that and leaned in to brush a kiss over her lips, “No Ria. I’m only that way with you. Because I feel the same way about you. Like Zan does with Liz.” He paused for a moment, before whispering against her lips, “I love you, Maria.”

He heard the soft intake of her breath before he sealed his lips once more to hers and pulled her into his lap.

Maria slid her arms around his shoulders as she settled in his lap and allowed him to kiss her at his leisure. It was a tender kiss, one that confirmed their love of one another, nothing more.

Soon, they pulled away once more and Rath lay his forehead against hers, “Ria…”

She smiled, “I know. We have to go.”

**********************************************************************

“Liz!” Liz turned at the sound of her best friends voice to see Maria and Rath holding hands and heading her way. Maria had already changed back into the clothes she had arrived in and both of them had smiles on their faces as Maria was the first to reach her.

Engulfing Liz in a hug, Maria exclaimed, “Congratulations, chica! It was absolutely beautiful, just like I knew it would be!”

Liz smiled as she hugged Maria back while giving Rath a grateful look, “Thank you Maria. I’m glad you were here to share it with me.”

Maria pulled back with a grin, “Me too.” She giggled, “Now, I have to get going, but I expect lots of details from everyone about the dinner, entertainment, and dance that I’m going to miss.”

“Okay Ria.”

Maria leaned in to whisper, “And I also expect details from you about the wedding night.”

Liz giggled as she playfully pushed her friend away, “Maria! That’s private!”

Maria shrugged, “I still expect details.”

As both girls laughed, Zan came up to Liz and slid his arm around her waist, “What did I miss?”

Rath rolled his eyes, “It’s just girl talk.” He inclined his head to Maria, “I’m taking her home now, so I’ll take my dinner later.”

Zan nodded and turned to Maria, “Thank you for coming Maria. I know Liz really loved having you here today.”

Maria laughed as she pulled Zan into a hug, “Well, I think I drove her a little crazy, but she’ll live.” She pulled away to look into his eyes, “She has you now. And I’m warning you, treat her right, or I’m coming for your ass, powers or no powers, understand?”

Zan mock swallowed at the fake glower Maria was giving him, “I understand. I promise I’ll take care of her.”

Maria grinned and hugged him again, “Congratulations, Zan. I’m happy for the both of you.”

“Thanks Ria.” Zan replied, as he hugged her back.

Pulling away, Maria gave Liz another hug good-bye before sliding her hand back into Rath’s. With a nod to Zan and Liz, Rath led Maria out of the hall and back to her world.

**********************************************************************

After six hours of dinner, entertainment, and dancing to celebrate the coronation and marriage of King Zan and Queen Liz, things were still in full swing both within the castle and out in the city.

Even though the entertainment hour was long over, there were still plenty of jesters, clowns, and other performers in the halls and streets entertaining anyone who wanted to see them.

And though the music and dancing had been going on for the last four hours, there were still plenty of people on their feet dancing as if their lives depended on it. Every one of them had smiles on their faces and drinks in their hands, taking part in the gaiety of it all.

Rath stood near the door to the antechamber in the throne room, his arms crossed over his chest surveying the crowd in the room. He had returned from taking Maria home just as the entertainment portion had ended and the dancing had begun.

Charles came to stand next to him with a smile on his face, “So, I see you’ve returned.”

Rath quirked an eyebrow, “I’ve been here for about four hours, H.T.”

Charles chuckled, “Really? Where have I been?”

Rath gave him a wicked grin, “Breathing the same air as the princess.”

Charles had the grace to blush, “Um, yeah, that’s right.”

Rath laughed, “No worries, Whitman, we’ve got your back.”

Before Charles had a chance to respond, he noticed Rath straightening up and staring into the crowd of people. Following Rath’s gaze, he saw Zan and Liz making their way towards them.

Zan had his arm around Liz’s waist as he steered her through the crowd and up to where the men stood. As Rath nodded, Zan spoke, “Thought I’d let you know, we’re retiring for the night.”

Rath replied, “Of course, Your Highness. Shall I spread the word?”

Zan nodded, “Please do.” He looked over his shoulder at Valenti, Kyle, and the others before turning to Rath again, “I really don’t think it’s necessary for them to guard my rooms, do you?”

Rath resisted the urge to laugh at the grimace on his best friend’s face. After all, Zan had been the one who was the most paranoid about the security and now, he wanted them gone. Of course, Rath couldn’t blame him. Turning to Valenti he said, “Weapons Master, I would wager that it is safe enough for the guards to just accompany the couple to their rooms. Once they are safely inside, the guards should just return to the celebration, don’t you agree?”

No one missed the sparkle of mirth in Valenti’s eyes. Kyle on the other hand had a full blown smile on his face as his father said, “I agree, C.A.”

Rath nodded, “Good.” He looked at Zan then, “They’ll just escort you to your rooms, Highness. I’ll make sure that everyone knows you have retired for the night.”

Zan gave him a grateful look, “Thanks.”

Rath and Charles stood there watching as Zan and Liz walked out of the throne room surrounded by their guards. Charles was the first to break the silence.

Chuckling, “Well, now, am I the only one who noticed the way the King’s green eyes seemed to have a hint of yellow in them?”

Rath snickered, “No, but did you also notice the hand on her waist? His nails looked like they were in desperate need of a trim.”

Charles turned to look at Rath for a moment, then they both erupted into laughter at the impatience of their newly married best friend.

**********************************************************************

Liz moaned into Zan’s mouth as her hands made quick work at removing his cape and jacket. She pushed it off his shoulders, letting it fall to the floor as her fingers began to roam over his bare chest. She tilted her head back against the bedroom door she was leaning against as Zan’s mouth began to nibble and kiss his way to the skin of her throat.

Zan made his way down to her collarbone where he swirled his tongue over the place her collarbones met. He felt her moan vibrate beneath his tongue as he removed her short jacket and slid his hands to her back to undo the zipper of her dress.

As he slid the zipper down, Liz curled her fingers over his belt and began to unfasten it and his pants. His mouth claimed hers once more as he pushed the dress down over her hips and she pushed his pants down over his.

Pulling away from her, he looked into her eyes as he tried to breathe air into his lungs. She smiled at him, noticing the way his eyes glowed a bright white.

Without taking their eyes from each other, they quickly stepped out of their remaining clothes until they were both naked to each others eyes.

Liz stood there and watched as Zan let his eyes roam over her body, his chest rapidly rising and falling with each breath he took.

His eyes returned to hers and flashed to orange, then yellow, and back to white. Stepping back to her, he reached up and removed the golden circlet from her head and tossed it onto the top of her discarded dress. Then he cupped her cheek in his hand and whispered, “Idi kine’ esu, dimo leijha’mi feigos.”

She smiled and whispered back as she removed and discarded his golden circlet, “Idi maie dikoyo, dimo husigos.”

Zan’s eyes flashed to orange once more as his mouth claimed hers again. He pulled her body flush with his, wrapping his arms tightly around her while devouring her mouth.

Liz wrapped her arms around his shoulders, sliding one hand into his hair and adding pressure to keep him kissing her. She lifted one leg, sliding it up along his thigh before curling it around his hip and tightening it around him, bringing him closer to her heat.

With a low growl, Zan lifted her up into his arms and carried her to the bed. She wrapped both legs around his waist and refused to let go of his mouth. Her tongue dueled with his even as her body rubbed itself against his chest and abdomen.

She felt Zan stiffen against her as a strangled growl escaped his lips. She lifted her head to look up at him, watching his eyes flashing rapidly from orange to white over and over again. Frowning, she asked, “What is it?”

He shook his head, “Nothing, it’ll pass.” His voice came out breathless, like he was fighting something.

Liz resisted the urge to grit her teeth against his stubbornness. “Zan, I’m not afraid of you. You know that. It’s okay to let yourself go.”

He closed his eyes and leaned his forehead against hers as his voice sounded in her head, I don’t want to hurt you.

You won’t. I trust you. She lifted a hand to place it against his heaving chest, just over his heart. She could feel it rapidly beating beneath her fingertips even as the sound reached her ears. Looking up into his eyes again, she said You promised me that I would get to know what it’s like to mate with a wahani. Sensing his hesitation, she added, Please? I want to know, dimo agalo.

Zan shuddered in her arms as he realized he wasn’t going to win this fight. Looking up into her eyes, he whispered hoarsely, “Idi agalo esu, Liz.”

With those words, he lowered her legs to the floor and turned her around until her back was to him. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he pulled her against his chest and lowered his lips to her shoulder.

Liz closed her eyes in bliss as she felt Zan’s lips trailing kisses up her shoulder to her neck even as his hands caressed the skin of her hips, stomach, and ribs.

Zan moved them forward until they stood near the headboard and took her hands into his. He lifted their interlocked hands to the headboard, indicating that she was to hold on to it. As she curled her fingers around the wood, he slid his fingers along her arms to her shoulders and brushed her hair away to expose her neck.

Leaning down, he placed soft kisses along the back of her neck and shoulders and let his hands drift down to her waist.

Liz sighed with pleasure as she felt his lips against her skin and his body pressed against her back. She arched into him, letting him know she wanted more.

A growl was her only warning before she felt his teeth take the skin at the back of her neck in a gentle grip and his body claimed hers. She gasped as he filled her up with his entire length and gripped the wood harder in her hands.

Zan stood there buried inside of her up to his hilt for a moment allowing himself to feel her surrounding him. When she moved her hips back against his, he growled louder and slid his hands up to grip her breasts in his hands.

Liz threw her head back against his shoulder as Zan began to set the rhythm of their lovemaking with his thrusts. She loved the way his hands felt as they kneaded her breasts even as he buried himself again and again inside of her. A soft keening began to escape her lips as he picked up the pace.

Zan used his fingers to tease her nipples, alternating between that and cupping the full weight of her breasts in his hands. He never let go of his hold on her neck with his teeth. Making sure she couldn’t leave him while the heat was upon him.

Picking up the force of his thrusts when he felt her body moving back against his for more, he finally let go of the last of his control. He let the wildness claim him, surrendering completely to it.

Liz heard the satisfied growl coming from Zan as his hold tightened on her neck. His teeth held her tight enough to keep her still, but it wasn’t painful at all. She felt the tip of his tongue lapping at her skin, adding to the pleasure he was giving to her body. She shifted her hips until she felt him hitting her spot and dug her nails into the wood as a scream erupted from her lips.

Still, he didn’t stop his movements. Lowering his hands to her hips, he held her there as he pounded into her, her own hips moving back to meet his thrust for thrust. With each one, he heard her cry out in pleasure until once more she was screaming, this time his name escaped from her lips.

He growled as he felt her liquid heat bath his cock even as he felt her trembling against his body. He curled his fingers into the skin of her hips and picked up his pace even more.

Liz couldn’t breathe as she felt Zan’s movements grow even harder and faster. She wouldn’t have believed it was possible, but he was definitely proving it to her. Still, she felt only immense pleasure as her husband claimed what was his until she felt him let go of her neck.

Zan threw his head back and let out a loud roar as he spilled his seed into his mates body. Clenching his eyes shut, he kept his grip on her hips as he continued to release himself into her. His mouth remained open, fangs bared, even as the roar faded away.

Liz sighed in contentment as she felt him tremble behind her, then his weight leaned against her back. She stood there supporting him as he nuzzled her neck and slid his arms around her waist.

Neither one of them spoke, content to just feel each others heated skin and listening to each others heartbeats and breathing.

Part 24

Maria paced in the confines of her room unable to sleep as thoughts of the evening raced through her head. When she and Rath had returned to the barn earlier that evening, the two of them had taken their time saying goodbye.

After Rath had left, she had made her way to the house only to find her parents waiting for her in the living room. Amy had immediately started in on her, asking her where she had been since it was nearly six in the evening.

Even Maria’s excuse about needing to be alone in the barn loft for a while wasn’t enough to keep Amy from going into the spiel about how dangerous it was for Maria to be alone anymore since the gang had already taken Liz.

“You have no idea how much worse things are now Maria! Your father and I are even thinking maybe we should pull you from school since there’s only three weeks left anyway.”

“What! You can’t do that! How am I supposed to graduate then?”

“You already have Maria. We know that the last couple of weeks are just fillers until the ceremony, so it won’t affect your grades at all. It’ll be safer for you this way.”

“And what am I supposed to do then?”

“Stay home where the gang can’t get you.”

“You want me to just hide in my room in fear of those thugs? Are you mad? I’d be climbing the walls!”

“Maria! Don’t raise your voice like that! We’re just trying to keep you safe.”

“I don’t need to be treated like a prisoner!”

“You will do as we say!”

“Stop treating me like a child!” She screamed and ran to her room, slamming the door shut and locking it.

Maria had heard her parents voices continuing to talk after she’d retreated to her room. It had been nearly an hour later when there was a soft knock on her door followed by her father’s voice, “Maria, honey? Can I talk to you for a second?”

Maria opened the door since there wasn’t a hint of anger in his soft voice. William gave her a gentle smile and sat down on the bed that was once Liz’s when Maria had returned to her own bed.

He looked at his daughter and said, “There’s something you should know Ria. It’s why we are getting concerned about your safety.”

Maria frowned, “What is it?”

He sighed, “You know we’ve been having more meetings lately.” At Maria’s nod, he went on, “Well, it’s official, we are going to take the Mayor and the gang to court.”

Maria’s eyes went wide, “What! When?”

“As soon as it’s been approved by the judge, which should be very soon. Judge Lawson is on our side, his wife has been to every one of our meetings so far. She was the one who suggested we hand in the petitions to her husband, instead of taking the chance it would fall into the hands of a corrupt judge. When it’s approved, there’s going to be the trial, if the Mayor and the gang even show up for it.”

Maria nodded, “Right.”

“Do you see why we are worried, now? Once the judge approves this and word gets out, there’s a chance the gang is going to retaliate. It doesn’t take much to figure out who they are going to target first.”

“The families of the ones taking them to court.” Maria stated.

“Yes. And now you are all your mother and I have left. We don’t want to lose you too.”

Maria sighed, “I know dad, I know.” She looked her father in the eye as she asked, “But wouldn’t it look suspicious if I just stopped going to school? And even if I stayed here, they could still get me. Not even the safety of my own house would be safe, that’s what happened to Liz’s family and the oil field owner’s family.”

William nodded as he ran a hand through his hair, “You’re right, I know.”

Maria moved to sit next to her father, “At least you’ve told me what’s going on, so I know what to expect. I will be careful dad. I’ll go straight to school and come straight home. And if I stay in the barn for a bit, that should be okay too. You know I have plenty of hiding places in the barn. You and mom don’t even know where all of them are. If my parents can’t find my hiding places, I don’t think the gang’s going to find them, even if they knew I go to the barn in the first place.”

William looked at his daughter for a few moments, processing what she’d just said. She was right. No one knew that barn was actually a part of the family’s holdings since it hadn’t been used in years. The last time it was functional had been when Amy’s parents had owned the farm. When it had fallen into William and Amy’s care, it was quickly forgotten. No one noticed when it had begun to be used as a sort of playground for two young girls. No, no one would notice if Maria hid out there.

He grinned at his daughter and squeezed her hand in his, “How did I get lucky to get such a smart daughter?” His face turned serious as he asked, “I need you to promise me that if there is ever any danger at all, to any of us, that you go to the barn and hide, Ria. I need you to protect yourself first, no matter what happens to the rest of us, you think of yourself first. Got that?”

Maria nodded, her eyes wide with fear, “Of course, i-if you’re sure.”

“I’m sure, Maria. And don’t ever tell me or your mother where you hide. Just in case, okay?”

“Okay.”

William hugged his daughter, holding her for a moment longer, before he pulled away and patted her arm, “Get cleaned up, okay? I’ll bring you dinner in a bit.”

“Thanks, dad.”

He had nodded and left her alone in the room. She had been allowed to have her dinner there, then she’d done some homework before her dad had come to tell her goodnight. She had told him goodnight and that she loved both him and her mother. He had responded that he and Amy loved her too before shutting the door and allowing Maria to go to bed.

Maria had tried to, but had tossed and turned as she’d continued to think of her parents and the fight they had against the gang. Since sleep eluded her, she had slid out of bed and began to pace her room.

Now she could feel her eyes getting heavy, despite the fact that her mind still seemed to be chaotic. She finally slid back under the covers and closed her eyes. Her last thoughts were of Rath and the things she now had to tell him as sleep finally caught up with her.

**********************************************************************

Liz slowly drifted out of sleep, as her body began to remind her of the previous night’s activities. More evidence of the long, enjoyable wedding night littered the entire bedroom. Clothes, bed sheets, pillows, and other items were scattered around the floor and on the furniture.

She smiled to herself as she remembered how her husband had shown her just how a wahani loved his mate. Zan had been extremely thorough in showing her. Over and over again. Until her body had been so satisfied and so pleasantly sore that she’d fallen asleep the instant her head had hit the pillow.

She chuckled to herself as she realized that had been the first time her head had been anywhere near the bed all night long. She and Zan had made love throughout the entire room, except the bed. As she felt his arm tighten around her waist, signaling that he was awake, she thought that it was time to put the bed to good use despite her soreness.

Turning around, she smiled at him as he blinked the sleep from his eyes, “Morning, dimo husigos.”

He smiled sleepily, “Mm, morning dimo feigos.”

She chuckled before leaning over and nuzzling his neck while breathing in his scent. He held her tighter and groaned as her tongue slid over his pulse then traced his jaw.

“Liz…” he hissed as her hands slid down his chest, grazing over his erection the moment she covered his mouth with hers. He continued to moan into her mouth as she began to stroke him to life.

His own hands wandered down her back and moved around to cup her breasts, teasing her nipples with his thumbs. It was Liz’s turn to moan as she slowly slid him onto his back and proceeded to straddle him.

Their mouths continued to hungrily devour each others as she rose to her knees. She still held him in her hand and began to guide him to her silky folds as she lowered herself down.

In the next instant Liz’s eyes went wide and she sucked in a huge breath, quickly sitting up on Zan’s hips.

Zan opened his eyes with a frown, “Liz?”

She stared at him for only an instant before her body jerked off of his and she went tumbling off the bed.

“Liz!” Zan yelled as he dove after her.

Liz couldn’t respond. She lay on the floor, her body jerking as if she was having a seizure. Her eyes were wide with fear as she stared at Zan helplessly. A soft moan of pain escaped her lips, as her body arced off the floor before slamming back down onto it.

Zan saw the tears beginning to spill down her cheeks and he leaned over her, trying to still her body. “Liz, talk to me, what’s wrong, mo’ba?”

Liz could only groan as she reached out one hand towards her husband. They both gasped as they realized the difference. Zan stared in shock at her hand as she curled it in pain. Her fingers were slowly forming into claws, similar to the kind he had when in wahani form.

“Od’yia dimo! Liz!”

She let out a hiss of pain and Zan grimaced as he saw the hint of fangs in her mouth. “No! This isn’t happening to you! Mo’ba, I’m so sorry!”

He reached out and tried to hold her in his arms, but the pain continued to make her body convulse. All he could do was hold her and try to keep her from hurting herself.

Zan what’s happening to me? her voice sounded so small in his mind.

He looked into her eyes and swallowed at the sight of her brown eyes blending into red. I don’t know, mo’ba. He replied, but I think somehow you’re changing.

Her eyes flashed to green, Changing? How?

He stared at her for a moment, taking in the elongating fangs, the claws which were now digging into the skin of his forearms, and her ever changing eye color. He knew what he saw shouldn’t be happening, but there it was. You’re becoming like me. You’re becoming a go’halla wahani.

Her eyes went wide and turned a deep dark red, No! That’s not possible. How is that possible? She shrieked in his mind.

I don’t know. But I’ll find out, dimo agalo. I promise. As another seizure took hold of her, he whispered, “Please baby, try not to fight it too much. Let it happen. If you let it happen, it won’t hurt so much.”

Liz tried to listen to his words of encouragement, his vows that he would find out why this was happening, and that he wouldn’t allow anything to hurt her. She tried to focus on the soothing notes of his voice, but the pain continued to ripple through her body.

Zan’s head snapped up when he heard a rattling noise. His eyes immediately noticed how various objects had begun to vibrate or slowly levitate. He knew without a doubt that Liz was doing that. Somehow she was gaining the telekinetic powers the wahani had. He knew that because objects in his room had begun to rattle, levitate, and bang against other objects when he had been just learning his powers.

As the noise increased and the objects began to hurl themselves at nothing in particular, Zan could hear the sound of footsteps getting closer to their bedroom.

Quickly he reached out, willed a blanket into his hand, and wrapped his wife in it just as the door flew open.

Hugging Liz to him, he turned to see Rath standing in the doorway with two guards behind him. All of them stared wide eyed at the tornado forming in the room.

“Od’yia kago!” Rath muttered before ducking a vase which ended up shattering against the wall next to him. Straightening up, he stared at Zan as he tried to hold a convulsing Liz. “Is she doing this!” He yelled, dumbfounded.

Zan nodded and yelled back, “Yes.”

The moment the word left his lips, everything stopped in it’s tracks and went still and deafening silence filled the gaps.

Zan looked down at Liz, who had gone limp a split second before everything had stopped. He stared at her in shock as he watched her chest rising and falling in a regular rhythm. She had passed out. And the claws and fangs were slowing receding right before his eyes.

Rath moved into the room and leaned over Zan, taking in the fading changes. He sank to his knees and stared at Zan, “How is this even possible?”

Zan’s lips trembled, “I don’t know. I’ve never heard of anything like this before.” He lifted a hand to tenderly brush the hair from his wife’s face. “Could you wait outside for a moment? I need to put her back to bed and put some clothes on.”

Rath solemnly nodded before striding to the door and closing it behind him and the guards.

Zan rose to his feet and carried Liz to the bed, he found a simple gown to clothe her in before tucking her under the covers and pulling on his own clothes. It was a few moments before he heard more footsteps moving up the stairs hurriedly.

A knock sounded on the door, “Zander? I’ve brought the healers, son. They need to see Liz.”

Zan sighed at the worry in his mother’s voice. Obviously the entire castle must have heard the ruckus and had come to find out what it was. His mother had gathered up the healers just like she always did when it sounded bad.

As another impatient knock sounded, he leaned over and placed a kiss against his wife’s forehead before going to let the cavalry in.

**********************************************************************

At first all Liz could hear was mumbled voices. Then they became clear enough for her to recognize. She could hear her husband’s deep voice laced with fear and worry and his mother’s higher pitched voice trying to sound calm and soothing.

“That’s not possible. Liz is human! She would have known otherwise!”

“She is human Zan. And maybe no one ever told her.”

“Why didn’t you tell me this before!”

“I thought she was human too.”

Liz groaned and opened her eyes, blinking as Zan’s face came into view.

He was leaning over her, giving her a reassuring smile, although there was worry in his eyes, “How are you feeling, mo’ba?” He asked in a low voice.

Liz frowned as she tried to make sense of the conversation she had heard, “What did she mean, she thought I was human?”

Zan stiffened and stared at her like a deer caught in headlights. His mouth opened and closed once.

Liz prodded, “What did she mean? I am a human! I know it!”

Zan swallowed and ran his fingers through her hair, “It’s nothing, dimo agalo. Let’s just concentrate on getting you to feel better then…”

She batted his hand away and turned to glare at Diana, “Am I human?”

Diana shook her head, “Not anymore.”

“But I was once, right.”

Diana didn’t take her gaze away from Liz’s, “I think you might have only been half.”

“Half?”

“Yes. It would explain why you reacted the way you did…” she paused as her eyes flicked to her son before adding, “…to the mating.”

Liz frowned, “Both of my parents were human. They never showed any sign of being like you are.”

Diana nodded, “It may have only been one of them. And whoever it was may have not known how to use their powers. You know that every wahani has different degrees of power. Depending on how much you use it. One of your parents may have never used it and it remained dormant, especially since they mated with a full human.”

Liz nodded as she followed Diana’s train of thought. “So one of them passed the gene on to me.” She turned to look at Zan, “And since I just mated with a full wahani, it just became the dominant gene.”

Diana nodded, a pleased look on her face. “Exactly.”

Zan reached out and caressed her cheek with his hand, “I’m sorry, dimo agalo. If I had known…”

Liz placed a hand over his lips, silencing him. Then she finished his sentence, “you would have what? Not mated with me? You would have risked losing your sanity to save me from becoming like you?”

He just stared at her with a hopeless look in his eyes. Liz sighed and shook her head. “I’m not sorry.”

“What?” Zan gasped, eyes widening.

She looked at his shocked expression and smiled, “I’m not sorry. So one of my parents was a wahani. Maybe they didn’t even know it themselves.” She turned to look at Diana, “I vaguely remember my mom’s parents. My grandfather died when I was five, and my grandmother a year later.” She looked back at her husband once more, “But I never knew my father’s parents. Dad said he had been raised by an aunt and uncle. He was told his parents died a couple of months after he was born. The story was that they were caught in the middle of a gang fight. He never asked about them at all.”

As Diana nodded, Liz finished, “Dad didn’t know what he was. His powers never came out, but he passed them to me.”

“And I woke them up.” Zan whispered.

Liz nodded, “I’m not sorry.”

“Liz…”

“No Zan. Think about it! It’s fate, don’t you see? I was meant for you. I was meant to come here, to become your soul mate in every way. You once asked me to just reach out and feel you. I did. Now I know why. It was always there. You sensed it from the beginning, but you didn’t know what it was. Our souls are two halves of a whole. Now we are whole. I am whole.”

Zan stared at her for a moment as her words sank in. He knew she was right. He’d been telling everyone from the beginning. He didn’t know how he knew, but she was his ulhi’maos. He didn’t know how they could communicate telepathically or how they were able to sense each other no matter where they were, but it had been as easy as breathing. Now he understood.

If she’d been fully human, she shouldn’t have been able to do any of those things ever. They had all just taken it for granted because she had been the only thing that could have saved him. His eyes went wide at that realization. She’d just traded her humanity for his life.

Liz shook her head, “No Zan. I didn’t give up my life for you.” She slid her hands into his, “Don’t you see? I didn’t have a life until I met you. You gave me my life back.”

He couldn’t help the smile that spread over his face at her declaration. That and the words whispered in his mind were all he needed to know that she was still the strongest woman he’d ever known.

Rhonda- Yes it has, we will soon see what happens. It gets better...

roswell- yes you were!

tequa- Yes. Well...

pandas- Glad you managed to catch that. I was trying to be extra sneaky... :P

Vero- We'll see...

spray- Hmm. Good question, the tragic romantic in me says yes, his soul wouldn't survive without it's mate. But technically, since he only started to act up when he'd encountered Liz, I'm gonna say she was the 'trigger'. So, it only affects those who've met there mates and have their 'triggers' released. Otherwise it remains dormant, like Liz's father's wahani side did.

midnight- Oh, Rath has something to say about that too  . It gets...weirder

L.- Yes it does, but the answer is no. I know, at first I wasn't gonna do that, but I couldn't find a better way to explain why she 'fits' him so well, so I went with that and now the story is actually falling together much more nicely now. Maria...you'll see  . I think you missed the wedding :? it was in part 23!

M in Y- , yep. Awww....but I do get your feedback, I know they prune every 15 pages, but I get it before they do. Maybe they don't have a way of making sure the bookmarks aren't missed every time they have to prune... :?

candy- True  . We'll see.

tabby- Thanks.

Okay, get ready for more fun...

Part 25

Zan grinned at his best friend as they both stood near the door watching his mate petting Teether, soothing the pain away.

Rath rolled his eyes as he dangled the new tiger tooth necklace from his hand, “It figures that the only other person he lets near him besides you is Liz, your mate.”

Zan shrugged, “She’s got my scent all over her now.”

Rath nodded, “Yeah, well the rest of us have hung around you long enough to have your scent, but still, it’s Liz he warms up to.”

Zan arched an eyebrow, “Are we jealous?”

Rath gave him a look, “Yeah, jealous that a full grown male tiger prefers to rub itself all over you and Liz?” He shook his head, “Not a chance. The three of you can rub each other all you want. I’m going elsewhere.”

That got a wicked grin from Zan, “Asked Maria if she wants to rub and pet you yet?”

Rath growled, “None of your business!”

Liz turned to look at them with a frown, “Would you two leave! You’re upsetting him and he’s still pissed that you just had to have his tooth!”

Rath rolled his eyes, “It wasn’t that painful! He’s had teeth pulled before and he’s just doing that to get some sympathy from you.”

Liz turned a pleading look to her husband who nodded and ushered Rath out of the room, “You have to get going anyway if you’re going to get to Maria when school lets out. Just make sure she understands how to use the necklace.”

Rath nodded as he and Zan made their way towards the main hall, “I’ll make sure. And tell Teether thanks again for allowing me to do this.”

Zan nodded, “I will. Tell Ria hi for Liz and I okay?”

“Will do.”

Zan watched Rath head towards the front of the castle for a few moments before going back to retrieve his wife from his tiger’s side.

**********************************************************************

Maria smiled and pushed off of the wall when Rath came in to view. He grinned at her as he began to jog towards her.

“Hey!” she chuckled as he came to stand in front of her, slightly out of breath.

“Hey.” He leaned down and kissed her cheek, “Sorry I’m late, I had to do something first before I came.”

She nodded, “It’s okay, I haven’t been waiting long.”

“Good.” He slipped his arm around her shoulders and they began walking to her house. “Did your parents give you any trouble?” he asked.

She sighed, “No more than usual.”

He frowned, “Really? Cause that just sounded like it was more than usual.”

She looked up at him, “No, it’s something else.”

“Like?”

“We’ll talk about it in the barn, okay?”

Rath simply nodded and they walked the rest of the way in comfortable silence.

**********************************************************************

Liz sat forward in the chair, a frown marring her features as she looked over the paper once more, “This can’t be right.” she muttered.

Diana stopped what she was doing and looked up at her daughter in law, “What is it?”

Liz handed her the paper, “It’s a permit stating that new housing is to be built in the third section of the West Side City for those residents from the Western border.”

Diana nodded, “Yes. So what’s wrong with it?”

“I thought large bodies of residents such as these were only moved if it was a state of emergency, like floods or something.”

Again Diana nodded.

“So, what’s the emergency?” Liz asked as she swept her hand over the documents on the nearby table. “There’s nothing there that mentions anything about an emergency.”

Now Diana frowned, “Are you sure?”

Liz nodded, “Positive. I’ve looked three times already and all I have is that permit for the move.”

Diana thought for a moment then shook her head, “Well, I for one don’t recall any emergency about the Western border. I guess you’ll have to run that by Zan when you meet with him later.” She shrugged, “Could be he’s got the papers since the state of emergencies are part of his responsibilities anyway. While you just deal with the aftermath and keeping things calm.”

“You’re right. I’ll bring take this up with him during the meeting.”

**********************************************************************

Maria quirked an eyebrow as she looked up from the necklace Rath had placed in her hand. When they had gotten to the barn and made themselves comfortable, Rath had told her he had a gift for her. Then he’d told her to hold out her hand and close her eyes. When she had done that, he’d placed the necklace in her hand. Maria hadn’t been expecting to open her eyes to see what looked like a tooth from some huge beast resting in her palm.

“Uh, thanks.” She grimaced, “Do I even want to know?”

Rath chuckled, “It’s a tiger tooth.”

Maria nodded, “Right, well, gotta say, that is one huge tiger.” She took hold of the gold chain and dangled it from her fingers.

This time Rath laughed, “Yeah, you’re right. Teether is huge. Twice the size of Zan and ten times as heavy.” He rolled his eyes, “But Zan refuses to get rid of him and well, I think Liz is now on his side too.”

Maria’s eyes went wide, “Wait! Are you telling me Zan owns a real tiger and Liz knows about it?”

Rath nodded, “Yeah. Zan’s had Teether since he was a cub. And I guess since Zan’s the one who raised him, Teether only allows him to get close to him. Well, now he allows Liz to get close too.” He frowned, “He’s never allowed anyone else close, not even Zan’s other family members.”

Maria stood there with her mouth hanging open as Rath continued to talk, “You should see him Ria. He’s this huge fierce tiger right, but when Zan, and now Liz come near, he suddenly turns into this giant kitten, purring and rubbing himself up against them.” He shook his head, “And when Zan pulled the tooth from him earlier today, he starts whining and whimpering just so he could get lots of sympathy from Liz.”

“And she went near it?” Maria asked in horror.

Rath looked at Ria then and noticed the look on her face, as well as the way she was still holding the necklace away from her at arm’s length. He frowned, “Teether won’t harm Liz, she’s Zan’s mate, so Teether is honor bound to protect her.”

Maria gaped at him, “It’s a tiger Rath, what does it know about honor?”

Rath sighed, “Ria, you’re thinking of Teether as if he were a tiger from your world. He’s not. He’s from our world and he’s a li’ani.”

“What’s that?”

“I can’t really explain it, but more or less he’s a type of mythical creature. Meaning he’s an incredibly intelligent animal and can communicate with us using mind speech. They have their own language too, but when they communicate with us, they use our language.”

“And Liz can understand what he’s saying?”

Rath nodded, “Yes.”

Maria frowned, “Geez, what’s Zan been doing? Giving her a crash course in his language?”

“What? Oh, no, Teether can speak English. Zan says Teether can probably speak any language that exists, but we really don’t know.”

“Really? Hasn’t he asked?”

“Yeah, but that’s the thing with these li’ani, they can be very secretive. It’s like they know how the universe works, but aren’t divulging the secrets because they don’t want to piss off whoever it is that created them. So, we’re on a need to know basis.”

Maria rolled her eyes, “Figures, isn’t that always the case.”

Rath chuckled, “Yeah.”

“Okay, so why did you force him to give me his tooth?”

“I didn’t force him. Zan asked and Teether willingly gave it up. He was just acting like it hurt to get Liz to comfort him.”

Maria chuckled, “Typical male.”

“Hey!”

She grinned, “What? I’m just saying. So, what did Zan say about that?”

“Nothing. I think he’s just glad that they’re taking to each other so well. I honestly think he would have begged if Liz had insisted he get rid of Teether and she would have probably been the only one who would have convinced him to. He hasn’t listened to anyone else.”

Maria nodded, “I have to agree. So, why this necklace?”

He took it from her as he said, “It’s a way for you to contact us, if there’s an emergency.” At her questioning look, he held it up for her to see. “Right here on the top of the tooth, see? You can press down on this part and it presses against the filling of the tooth. Basically inside the tooth are synapses, like left over nerve endings. You press down on them, and Teether gets a toothache. It lets him know you need help and he alerts us.” Maria’s eyes widened in amazement at what the tooth could do. “It also helps us to track you should we need to find you.”

“What? How?”

“It’s still connected to Teether in a way, so it acts like a homing beacon. Should we need to find you, we bring Teether and he tracks you, like a hunting dog.”

“Wow! Um, isn’t it painful?”

Rath shook his head, “No. You’d think so since the tooth still contains nerve endings, but no. He’s growing a new tooth as we speak. And when you use it, he’ll just feel this pulse where his old tooth used to be, nothing painful.”

“Am I the only one with a tooth? I mean how does he know it’s me?”

“There’s only two other people with teeth from him, Liz and Zan. Their teeth are from his top canines. When he gives a tooth, it’s never from the same spot he gave another. So if his top left canine starts pulsing, he’ll know something’s wrong with Liz.”

Maria chuckled, “Yep, smart tiger all right.”

Rath grinned a moment before his look turned serious. He caressed Maria’s cheek as he said, “I just wanted you to have something to keep you safer. Since we can’t always be with you and I worry about you up here with that gang still on the loose.”

Maria sighed, “Right, the gang.” She looked up into his eyes, “that’s what I wanted to talk to you about, actually.”

**********************************************************************

Lonnie made a face as she listened to Liz talk about Teether and the things she’d learned about him. She really didn’t like that tiger, but then again, it didn’t seem to like anyone either.

“I can’t believe you actually like that beast Liz! It’s so temperamental.”

Liz chuckled, “Teether isn’t temperamental. He’s just misunderstood.”

She rolled her eyes, “Whatever. He’s tried to bite everyone who comes near him. Zan was the only one he’s never tried to bite. Well, until you that is.”

Liz nodded, “It’s because I’m Zan’s mate. That’s what Teether said anyway. He told me he’d protect Zan, myself, and any of our cubs.” She giggled, “That’s so adorable, he called our future children cubs.”

Lonnie scoffed, “Od’yia! You sound like Zan when he talks about you.”

“Really? Do tell!”

“Oh no! I’m not gonna tell you how he sighs and goes on and on about ‘Liz is my ulhi’maos, I love her so much’. Ugh, it’s enough to make my teeth hurt.”

Liz giggled, “I love him too.”

Lonnie grinned, “I know you do. It’s so obvious to anyone who’s near the two of you.” She reached out and squeezed her sister in law’s hand, “I’m glad it’s you Liz. And it really does make perfect sense to find out that you’re like us now. I think you were right, you and Zan were meant to be. And you both make each other so happy.”

Liz returned her gesture, “Cheer up Lonnie, you and Charles will have your day. I know it. I can see how you make him happy too.”

Lonnie sighed, “I don’t think my father is going to like this. I think he’s got his sights on some nobleman.”

“Charles is a nobleman, Lonnie. And before you start, your father will not have a say in your marriage because he’s not King anymore. Zan is, so it’s he who will have a say. And believe me, Zan likes Charles and I have no doubt he will allow the two of you to be together.” She grinned, “Unless he wants to sleep somewhere else for the rest of his life.”

Lonnie laughed, “You are so bad, te’rade dimo.”

As Lonnie continued to laugh, Liz joined her until she suddenly felt it.

Going silent, Liz sat there trying to understand the feeling that was slowly moving through her body.

Vaguely, she could hear Lonnie asking her what was wrong, but all she could focus on was the sudden heat that flared up inside of her. She felt like her nerves were on fire and getting worse by the second.

Lonnie’s eyes went wide when Liz turned towards her, eyes turning into orange. She sprang to her feet when Liz let out a hiss, baring her fangs.

Liz couldn’t stop the hiss from escaping as the heat continued to get worse. Now her skin began to itch something fierce, as if there were something beneath, trying to get out. She snapped her teeth together in an attempt to get herself under control. Instead, her head whipped towards the door and she let out a growl as she went down into a crouch, digging claws into the wooden floor.

**********************************************************************

Rath frowned at his King as he began to pace the room. He’d just returned from being with Maria and she’d told him about her parents and their plan to take the gang to court. He’d agreed that the best thing for her to do was exactly what she’d told her parents.

She would continue to go to school and he’d be there to walk her home. And if there was any problems at all, she would use the necklace and make her way to the barn into the portal. Rath would be there to get her as soon as Teether sounded the alarm.

He’d tried to convince her to just go with him, but she refused to leave her parents. So, he had to be content with the plan they already had in place.

As soon as he’d returned, he’d gone directly to Zan and told him everything he and Maria had discussed. He’d also said that he still wanted Maria to come here, but she didn’t want to leave her parents.

Zan had begun to pace when he’d gotten to the part about trying to convince Maria to come here. He wasn’t sure if Zan was even listening past that point because he suddenly seemed highly agitated about something.

“Zander? Did you hear me? Can you ask Liz to talk to her? Maybe she can convince Maria to come here.”

Zan’s answer was a growl.

Rath’s frown deepened as he watched Zan continue to pace. Alarm raced up his spine when he saw the claws flex.

“Zan? What’s wrong?”

“Ra’thlan.” Diana stepped into the room, her eyes on her agitated son. “I hate to interrupt, but do you think it’s possible to escort my son to his rooms?”

“What? I don’t think he’d let me near him in this state.”

Diana nodded her agreement, but spoke to Zan, “Zander, ursa feigos menowa afo esu sehi ursa no‘edatioro.”

Zan’s head immediately whipped to face Diana and they all saw his nostrils flare. He lifted his head slightly and sniffed the air.

He growled, “Liz!”

Diana barely had time to get out of the way as Zan launched himself out of the room.

Rath chuckled, “Well, I guess I won’t have to escort him anywhere now, huh?”

**********************************************************************

Liz slammed her hand against the door, dragging her claws down the wood, splintering it. Still, it wasn’t enough to get through the door and to freedom. She hissed and growled at the offending thing, wanting it out of her way.

She moved away and resumed her pacing, a shudder running through her when the heat seemed to blaze through her nerves. Hissing in agitation, she whirled around when she heard a growl coming from outside the door.

She went down into a crouch, eyes narrowed as she listened to the sounds.

“It’ska! Move out of the way! Open the door!” She was aware that it was Kyle’s voice she heard. “Da’kata! Why do I always have to be around when he’s in this form? Da’kata, I said move out of the way!”

There was some scuffling, grunts, and finally an earsplitting roar which sent her scrambling to hide behind the bed as Kyle’s voice sounded once more, “I know, Da’kata, just let me get the door open!”

More growls, as she heard the latch moving.

She lifted her head to peak over the edge of the bed just as the door swung open and a form landed in a crouch in the room. The door slammed shut behind him.

She froze as his eyes landed on her and he growled. She couldn’t help but hiss at him in response. She was aware of the wicked smile that formed on his face just before he licked his lips.

There was no warning at all as he suddenly leaped from his crouch and cleared both the area in front of the bed and the bed itself.

With a yelp, she scrambled away from the bed, only to be pinned down to the floor. Twisting her body, she swiped at him with a claw as she growled in warning.

He hissed when the claw made contact with his chest, but refused to get off of her. Instead, he leaned forward and snapped at her which only made her growl again.

He allowed her to wiggle free, just long enough for him to trap her against the wall. When she tried to turn around again, he gripped her shoulders and gently took hold of the skin of her neck in his teeth.

With a cross between a growl and a whimper, she went limp in his arms. He knew she’d just conceded the win to him. Now, it was up to him to make sure his mate received her reward.

**********************************************************************

Lonnie rushed into her mother’s room, fear in her eyes, “Mother! They locked her in her room!”

Diana nodded, “I know honey, I told them to.”

“What? Why? She could hurt herself or…”

“She’s fine Lonnie, Zan’s with her now.”

“Oh.” Lonnie frowned, “What’s wrong with her? Does Zan know how to help her?”

“Nothing’s wrong with Liz, Lonnie.”

“But you didn’t see what was happening…”

“I saw.”

She stomped her foot, “How can you be so calm about this! Liz needs help!”

Diana sighed and turned to look at her daughter, “I know you don’t understand it, Vilondra, but Liz will be fine. She just needs some time with Zan and she’ll be fine.”

“She almost attacked me, how do you know she won’t attack Zan?”

Diana grinned as she turned back to her book, “Oh, I’m certain she will attack him, but I know he’ll enjoy every moment of it.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Liz needs her mate, he’s the only thing that can calm her down right now.”

“But…” Lonnie went still as her mother’s words dawned on her. “Od’yia dimo! Are you saying she’s in heat!” As Diana chuckled, Lonnie stomped out of the room muttering, “Ew! That’s just wrong! Wrong, I say! Ewwww!”

**********************************************************************

She threw her head back in ecstasy as she felt him thrusting into her. Growling her approval, she dug her claws further into the wall using it to push back against him.

His teeth remained clenched around the skin of her neck, holding her steady for his plundering of her body. His claws held her breasts without hurting her. He used his palms to rub against her nipples, sending ripples of pleasure through her.

She whimpered in need as the fire continued to race through her nerves, albeit not as powerful as before. It seemed to be dying down with every thrust he gave her. She lifted her hips and pushed back, trying to get him deeper.

Little mewling sounds escaped her throat as he felt her grinding her hips against his. He could sense her need, could smell her desire to reach that height that only he could give her. As her mate, he couldn’t do anything else other than satisfy her. He lowered his hands to her hips, picking up the pace as he gripped her tighter.

She could feel his claws pricking the skin of her hips, but it wasn’t painful. Grunting, she lowered her head and dug her claws into the wall a little more. It served to help her push harder against him, burying him deeper inside of her.

He growled against her neck at the feel of himself going deeper inside of her. As she continued grunting, he began answering her with his own grunts while he buried himself deeper and deeper, his pace becoming frantic.

She let out a soft hiss, baring her fangs as he finally found her pleasure point. Turning her head slightly she snapped at him, which only served to make him growl and slam them both into the wall.

Two thrusts later and her head was thrown back as a howl burst from her mouth. A deeper howl blended with hers as she felt him explode inside of her and everything went white for a few moments.

Neither one of them was aware of how much time had passed as their bodies began to cool down. It was a while before Liz realized she was pressed against the wall of her bedroom by her husband’s equally naked body.

The smell of sex seemed to permeate their thoughts at the same time. Liz was the first to smile about it. Sending her thoughts to him, Well, I guess I’ll know what’s wrong with me the next time my nerves seem to be on fire.

She felt him chuckle against her neck, Yeah, wish they could have warned us about it though.

Maybe they didn’t know.

Oh they knew. Why do you think you were immediately locked in the bedroom and they went to retrieve me the moment you were?

It was her turn to chuckle, Okay, maybe they knew, but didn’t expect it to happen to us?

He growled, “Well, I think it’s about time we found out everything there is to know about ulhi’maos and their mates so we don’t have another surprise like this one.” He leaned closer to her ear, “Don’t want to end up giving them too many free shows or embarrassing ourselves in any way.”

Turning her head slightly, she curled her fingers in his hair, bringing him close for a kiss, “I agree, but we can wait until tomorrow, hm?”

He chuckled as her lips claimed his once more. He closed his eyes as their kiss deepened, savoring the way she tasted. It took him a moment to realize he was hearing heartbeats and another moment to realize there were more than two.

At that moment, Liz gasped and pulled away from him. With wide eyes she stared into his, letting him know she’d heard them too. “Od’yia! The surprises just keep coming!” She exclaimed.

Late again. Sorry, was feeling bad yesterday so I didn't get out of bed :( . Feel a little better so I decided to post a slightly longer part :) .

tequa- He would, but he's second in command of his world :( .

Rhonda- Somehow he's not coming across that way even though I wanted him to :( . Rath won't ever have a problem with having Maria with him, soldiers don't go through all that polictical B.S. that Kings have to go through.

roswell- I wonder too  .

nibbles- Not true! Liz got Teether to give the tooth for her best friend. And she knew Rath was on his way to see Ria. True. I know, soon...I'm really trying, but every time I think they are gonna, it just isn't the right time :( .

spray- glad you liked that. Yep :D .

candy- thanks

midnight- Yes. Soon :( .

tabby- thanks

Vero- :D . Yes, she really wants to hear about her bro's love life, . Yes, she is. It'll get solved...someday.

M in Y- Diana was saying Liz is essentially human because she 'lived' like one until Zan 'woke' her up. She's still thinking she's human sometimes, but she's not. , yes. Yes, it was a 'sign', . Yes, it is. Hmm... . Teether is a smart one  .

Here we go...

Part 26

Liz sighed as she lay in the middle of their bed on her back. Zan was currently alternating between kissing her belly and caressing it.

After the initial wild love making they’d done and finding out she was now pregnant, they had moved to the bed where Zan had made love to her again. That time had been much slower, but still just as passionate and satisfying as always.

They had slept after that, waking up just before dawn to make love once more and now they were enjoying the time they had together before the kingdom interfered again.

Liz lifted her head slightly to look down at Zan whose head was now resting against her stomach. He smiled up at her, as his fingers continued to caress her sides. She chuckled, “You look way too comfortable there. And I know what you are going to say, but no.”

He frowned, “Why not?”

She rolled her eyes, “I’m not made of glass, Zan. Besides, you promised you’d help me get used to my new powers and there’s still the meeting we didn’t get to have because of the interruption.”

He sighed, “But it was a very welcome interruption.” He kissed her stomach again, “Please?”

She glared at him, “How long am I going to be pregnant?”

He shrugged, “It’s the same as a human pregnancy, about nine months.”

“Exactly, and you want me to do absolutely nothing for nine months?”

He lifted his head and pouted at her, “You wouldn’t be doing nothing. I’ll make sure mom and Lonnie keep you occupied and then I’ll be spending lots of time with you.”

“For nine months.”

“Liz…”

“Uh uh. Don’t you dare start pulling the King crap on me again. You know better. Besides, I’m certain that getting lots of exercise is good for the pregnancy.”

He sighed and rolled over until he was lying next to her, “You’ll be getting exercise.”

Liz was about to say something else until the note in his voice registered. She turned on her side to look at him, her eyes narrowing when she saw the look in his eyes.

“What aren’t you telling me?” she asked.

He closed his eyes, “Maybe it’s time to get up. I’ll get mom to…”

She growled, “Don’t change the subject! What is it?”

He turned to face her, “I’m not. I just think it would be better if you talked to mom about this.”

“Why?” she frowned, “Is it because I’m part human?”

He shook his head, “I don’t think that part of you really exists anymore Liz. I’m beginning to think mom was right all along. Since I woke up that part of you, it’s taken over and shut out all of the part that was once human.”

“What makes you think that?”

“Everything you’ve done so far is so much like a typical wahani, not a human. And your powers were already so strong in the beginning anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if you learn things quickly. I won’t even be surprised if you are as good at some things as I am.”

“That doesn’t mean that I’m not human anymore.”

“There’s also what Teether said.” At Liz’s confused look, he continued, “He called you my mate.”

Liz nodded, “Everyone does, even I call myself that, so?”

He rolled his eyes, “He called you my mate in his language. My sulama. The li’ani only use that word when they are talking about the wahani. When talking about a human, they use the word sulaspo. Plus, he called our children cubs. Had he been talking about a human/wahani mix, he’d have gone with the normal word, children.”

Liz’s eyes went wide at that. As she placed her hand over her stomach she asked, “Wait, are you saying I’m gonna have a…”

“No.” Zan quickly shook his head, “Our children are born looking like human children, Liz. It’s what’s inside that makes them different.”

She let out her breath, “Oh, they’re human on the outside, but they already come equipped with the latent powers, right?”

He nodded, “Right.”

Sighing, she rolled to her back and looked up at the ceiling, “Gee, there’s still so much about your world that I don’t know.”

Zan slid closer to her, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her to his body, “Don’t worry, leijha’mi there’s time to learn it all. I’m right here for you always. I promise, I’ll be there for you every step of the way.”

Liz nodded, “I know.”

He smiled and leaned in to nuzzle her neck. She closed her eyes and sighed in contentment. Tilting her head slightly, she allowed her husband to begin nibbling her skin. As he made his way down her shoulder, his hand began moving up her hip and across her stomach.

Just as his hand got close to the goal of her breast, Liz spoke, “Since you’ll be here every step of the way, want to tell me what you meant about getting exercise?”

Zan groaned and rolled away from her, “Go take a bath, I’ll send a message to mom to meet you in the living area in about an hour.” He got out of bed and grabbed his robe, slipping it on.

As he disappeared out of the bedroom door, she called after him, “Why can’t you just tell me?”

Her answer was the sound of the door closing behind Zan.

**********************************************************************

Liz walked to the former Queen’s sitting room to meet with her mother-in-law. She had taken a bath, then had a simple meal in her dining room alone until the message had come from Diana to meet her in the sitting room.

Zan had returned to the bedroom while she had been bathing. He’d told Liz that he’d sent the message to his mother and was going to work out in the training room before going to work. Liz knew he’d be back to take his bath while she was with his mother.

As she neared the door to the sitting room, she wondered why Zan wouldn’t talk to her about what was going on, why would he send her to talk to his mother. She assumed it must be something difficult or embarrassing for him since he’d avoided looking at her once he’d left their bed.

She knocked on the door and entered when she heard Diana’s voice. Diana, who had been sitting in one of the couches in the room, got up and walked to Liz with open arms.

“Well, looks like congratulations are in order! I was so thrilled when I got the news from my son that the two of you will be making me a yahe’gra in about nine months.” She enveloped Liz in a hug as she continued, “Zan says you have questions.”

Liz pulled away from Diana with a frown, “Actually, when I asked him what he meant by a certain thing he said to me, he told me he was going to get you to talk to me about this.” She folded her arms in front of her, “I got the impression it was making him nervous or something.”

Diana chuckled, “Or something sounds about right. Come on, let’s have a seat.”

Once they were comfortable on the couch, Diana asked, “How are you feeling right now?”

Liz nodded, “Fine. I’m just a little confused by my husband’s behavior and curious about what my being pregnant means, but other than that, I’m fine.”

Diana nodded, “That’s good. Hopefully nothing will interfere while we talk.”

Liz frowned, “See, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Zan was being cryptic just like that.”

“Oh Liz,” Diana shook her head with a smile, “He wasn’t being cryptic on purpose. I think it is a little embarrassing for him to have to tell you what you are going to be like while you’re pregnant. Especially since he’s part of the reason you are the way you are.”

Liz gave her a questioning look, “Isn’t that how things are done? In our world a man and woman have sex to make a baby.”

“No, not that part. I meant he’s the reason why you are no longer human. Since you are wahani, your pregnancy is going to be like a wahani pregnancy, not a human one.”

“Zan said our children will appear human.”

“That’s true. We all are born that way. When we hit puberty is when the latent powers tend to manifest themselves, some more than others. Think of it this way, if you were carrying a human child, you’d know what to expect in your pregnancy right?”

When Liz nodded, Diana continued, “Okay, so you know the child you carry now is a mix of you and Zan. Therefore, it isn’t going to have a human physiology.”

Liz nodded, “Okay. I get it. So, my pregnancy symptoms will be different than if I were carrying a fully human child.”

“Yes.”

“Zan’s embarrassed about telling me what my symptoms are going to be like because I’m not human?”

Diana sighed, “Let me explain first, then maybe you’ll understand why he wanted me to tell you.”

“Go ahead.”

“Well, the pregnancy will progress much like that of a human one, but there are some differences. One is that the child will be connected to you up until a year after birth. This means that you can feel what the child is thinking, feeling, experiencing and vice versa.”

Liz’s eyes went wide, “It will know what I’m thinking!” She slid her hand over her stomach, “It can’t know that already, can it?”

Diana shrugged, “My guess is that when you suddenly get thoughts you know aren’t yours, that feel like a child’s then that’s probably about the time it will start to get yours.”

“Did you know Zan and Isabel’s thoughts too?”

Diana shook her head, “No, Phillip and I are not ulhi’maos. I’m sorry, that’s what makes your pregnancy unique. My pregnancies were much like a human’s.”

“How do you know what I’m going to go through then?”

Diana smiled, “My parents were ulhi’maos. I was ten when my mother was pregnant with my brother. I got to see what it was like for her and she told me more about it when I got older. Plus, I’ve been talking to the healers ever since I found out that you and Zan were ulhi’maos. They have all the knowledge and can probably help you out too. In fact, I think it best that you see a healer as soon as possible so they can make sure everything is all right and they can keep you informed about the progression.”

Liz nodded, “I’ll send for one when I take my afternoon break.”

“Good.”

“Okay, so I’ll be connected to my baby. Is that all?”

“You’ll also experience plenty of cravings, most likely for the foods from this world, not yours. Plus, there’s the one craving that will strike when you least expect it and will only get worse as you progress along.”

Liz made a face, “What? Am I going to crave like raw meat or something?”

Diana chuckled, “Or something.” When Liz continued to stare at her Diana said, “You’ll be craving your ulhi’maos.”

Liz didn’t say anything for a moment, just sat there and let that sink in. Still, she was puzzled. “What do you mean, I’ll be craving? I’ll be craving Zan?”

“Yes.”

She was silent again before asking, “Am I missing something?”

Diana sighed, “Let’s put it this way. You know how you went into heat for Zan yesterday? Well, you’ll be doing that quite often throughout the pregnancy.”

“What! I thought the idea of being in heat was to get pregnant.”

“In your world that’s how animals function, but our race is a little different. At least with the ulhi’maos it is. The baby is a combination of you and Zan. A true combination, which means that it will constantly get the nourishment it needs from you because it resides inside of you. However, it isn’t connected to Zan, so the only way to get the nourishment it needs from his father…”

“Is to let us know by sending me into heat until the nourishment is given to him.” Liz finished.

Diana beamed, “As usual, you are correct.”

Liz stared at Diana for a moment before turning away with a slight blush on her cheeks, “Well, it looks like there will be more embarrassing moments for us until the baby is born.”

Diana slid her hand into Liz’s and squeezed gently, “Liz, nothing about you being pregnant with what could possibly be the future heir could ever be called embarrassing.” When Liz started to open her mouth in protest, she continued, “Trust me, Liz. It’s perfectly natural for the two of you to act that way. Everyone will soon learn that and they’ll know better than to tease you about it.”

Liz sighed, “Well, at least now I understand why Zan wanted me to do absolutely nothing the entire time I was pregnant.”

Diana frowned, “Did he say that?”

“He didn’t have to. I knew he was thinking that, but when I said no, he still asked me too. He said he was certain you and Lonnie could keep me occupied when he wasn’t with me.”

Diana rolled her eyes, “Well, I guess I will just have to have a talk with him too.”

**********************************************************************

“We don’t have all of the guards on the border yet. I’m still sending more over there and we are training the last batch as we speak.” stated Valenti.

Rath nodded, “And there are still two convoys that will be moved into the West Side City when the housing is up. All the other convoys have already been moved into their new homes in the southeast.”

Zan nodded as his eyes continued to roam over the map laid out on the table between them. After he had worked out and bathed, he’d called a meeting with the security teams to find out how things were progressing and to try to find out if there were any more clues about this recent rebel uprising.

Rath looked at his King and asked, “Have we started on the housing situation?”

Zan blinked and looked at the C.A. as he replied, “I’ll start on it as soon as I see the permit request.”

“I turned it in days ago, didn’t you get it?”

Zan shook his head, “No, are you sure you turned it in?”

Rath nodded, “Yes. I wrote it up and gave it to my assistant. I told him it was the permit for the housing in the West Side.”

With a swift intake of breath, Zan said, “Did you specifically tell him to bring it to me? Or did you just say that?”

Rath started to answer, but went still when he realized what his mistake was. “It’ska!”

Zan shut his eyes, “I’ll see if she has it then.”

Valenti frowned, “Isn’t it part of the Queen’s duties to see that your subjects are provided for?”

Zan sighed, “Yes, but she knows we don’t give permits unless it’s an emergency. And I know Liz, she’s going to want to know what the emergency is.”

“So?”

Rath grimaced, “Valenti, would you want to tell your wife, the Queen, that there is a possibility that we are going to war?”

Valenti looked from one man to the other and slowly shrugged, “Okay, maybe not, but she is Queen, so I’m guessing she knows things like that are possible.”

Zan nodded, “Yes, but this really couldn’t have happened at a worse time.”

Valenti frowned, “What do you mean?”

“Well, they did just get married.” Kyle interjected.

As Rath nodded, Zan sighed, “There’s something else you should know. It’ll be announced soon anyway, so…”

Kyle’s eyes went wide, “Aliho it’ska! She’s pregnant!”

All eyes in the room turned towards Kyle at his exclamation. He shrugged, “Well it makes perfect sense and it explains why Liz went into heat yesterday.”

Valenti frowned, “That only happens to a wahani…” he paused as it sank in. He turned to Zan with wide eyes.

Zan nodded as he answered the unspoken question, “Yes. Liz is wahani and she is pregnant with our child.”

Rath frowned, “How is that possible?”

“Liz thinks her father may have been wahani, or at least part. He never knew his parents. And we all know that our powers hit at puberty if we are looking for them. Since her father was raised by humans, they didn’t know, he never learned them and they remained hidden. Liz’s came out because she mated with me, her wahani ulhi’maos.”

Silence permeated the room as they all realized what that meant.

Kyle was the first to speak. With a tsk, he said, “Like I said before, you’ve got it tough.”

Rath growled a warning, “Kyle…”

Zan held up his hand, but looked Kyle dead in the eye, “Actually, I don’t consider it tough at all to take care of my mate’s needs. However, I will get tough on your ass if I ever hear you joking about it within her earshot.”

Kyle nodded, “Understood, my lord.”

Zan nodded, “Good. Now then, any news about what’s going on at the Western border?”

“Yes, that’s what I would like to know.” answered Liz as she pushed open the door to the conference room and all the men went deadly silent.

**********************************************************************

Zan swallowed as Liz stood on the other side of the table with her arms folded in front of her. The others had been dismissed so that he could talk to her alone, but as he stood there looking at her, he vaguely wished he could call them back.

“Well?” she asked as she dropped the permit on the table, “Care to tell me what that is all about?”

“It’s a permit for…”

“I know what it’s for Zan, I can read. What I want to know is why do they need to be moved in the first place? What happened that was so bad that they have to relocate?”

He looked down at the table and immediately realized that was a mistake. Looking back at Liz, he saw her perusing the map on the table. “Liz…”

She ignored him for the moment and moved closer to examine the map and all of the markers. Frowning she asked, “What are all those red flags at the Western Border? And there’s more here near the Northern Border.” She looked up at her husband, “Is this the thing that is forcing the move.”

Zan nodded.

“And that is?”

He sighed, “There have been a few ambushes lately. In those areas. We don’t know where they are coming from, just where they are occurring.”

Liz looked down at the map again, “This one here, this is where Rath’s father was ambushed.”

“Yes.”

“He was killed here.”

“Yes.”

Her eyes trailed to the flags on the Western Border before she looked into his eyes, “And the ambush here, someone died?”

Zan didn’t answer her until she straightened up, “The reason why you are moving all those people, Zan?”

He swallowed, “Twelve of our guards who were assigned to patrol the Western Border were found dead the day before our wedding. They were found scattered among a grove of trees, like so much debris. Some of them were not that recognizable.”

Liz looked back at the map as she suddenly felt bile rising in her throat, Zan was at her side instantly.

“I didn’t want you to know, leijha’mi. Especially now, in your condition.”

Liz growled, “Would you stop! I’m your wife, your Queen! Did you think I wouldn’t know these things could happen?”

“Liz please, I’ll handle this.”

Her eyes narrowed, “You’re expecting a war.”

He stiffened.

“That’s it, isn’t it? You are moving these people closer to the kingdom because you are expecting the borders to be attacked.”

**********************************************************************

Maria flew into Rath’s arms the moment she saw him coming. He held her close knowing something was bothering her. He could feel her shaking slightly and pulled her away to look into her eyes.

“What’s wrong?”

Maria gave a small sniffle, “They think the gang killed Liz.”

Rath sighed, “Oh Ria, I’m so sorry.”

Maria nodded, “I heard them talking this morning. They were saying that it was one of the things they were going to use against them in court. They are going to accuse them of kidnapping and killing Liz since she can’t be found and I was so traumatized when Liz went missing.” A sob escaped as she said, “Rath, they think the reason I won’t talk about Liz is because I saw them kill her!”

Rath wrapped his arms around Maria once more and held her as she began to cry. He looked around and found a shaded alcove with a bench in it and led Maria to it. They sat down and he continued to hold her and soothe her until her trembling stopped.

She sniffled once more and moved slightly back from him, “I’m okay now.” She gave him a teary smile, “Thanks.”

He smiled back and lifted his hand to wipe the tears away, “You’re welcome, mo’ba.” He leaned forward and kissed her forehead. “I’m sorry you have to go through this, Ria.”

Maria nodded, “It’s okay. I can do this. It’s just that I had thought they’d let that go and were just focusing on getting rid of the gang. I didn’t know they were using Liz’s disappearance as the reason for going through with it.”

“Right. Well, can’t say that I blame them. If it were my child, I’d seek blood too.”

Maria glanced up at him and smiled, “Yeah, well, I think you’d definitely have the upper hand.”

They both chuckled at that before Maria sighed again, “The court date is set for next Thursday. I think everyone is getting ready for the backlash to begin since the summons is being sent out tomorrow.”

Rath nodded at that. “I see.” He didn’t say anything else, just sat there and stared into the distance.

Maria studied his profile. She could tell he was thinking, but she had no idea what it was. When he’d been silent for a few minutes, she asked, “Rath? Rath, what are you thinking?”

He turned to look at her and sighed, “I just hate the idea of leaving you here alone Ria.”

She smiled as she squeezed his hand, “I’m not alone. I have my parents.”

He nodded, “I know and while I know they love you, they can’t protect you. Not like I can.”

She sighed, “Rath…”

“Please, Ria. Come with me. Let me take care of you.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?” He asked as he cupped her face in his hands, “I love you.”

She curled her fingers around his wrists as she whispered, “I know.”

“Then come with me. Please?”

“I can’t.”

“Why?”

“They were upset when Liz left. They’ll be devastated if I leave. I can’t do that to them Rath. I’m all they have left. I can’t let them believe I’m dead, when I’m not. I won’t be able to live with myself for putting them through that.”

Rath closed his eyes as he lowered his forehead to hers, she was right. It would be unfair to do that to her parents. Still, he desperately wanted to keep her safe and he didn’t know any other way to do it.

“Rath, I’ll be okay. I know the rules. I know better than to go anywhere alone. And I have the necklace. I know you’ll be there if I need you. Just a little longer okay? I’ll talk to them after I graduate. Tell them I’m going to see the world, they can’t stop me then. That way I can come back and see them when I want to.”

“Right.”

“It’ll be okay, Ra’thlan. I know it will.”

He leaned in and captured her lips in his, needing to taste her. To make himself believe she would be okay. Maria slid her arms around his shoulders and leaned into him as he deepened the kiss. She parted her lips and allowed his tongue access to her mouth when he pressed it against her lips.

She held him tightly, savoring his taste just as much as he savored hers.

**********************************************************************

He should have known better than to keep these things from her. After all, she could read his mind if she wanted to. But he knew she didn’t have to do that. Liz was too smart for her own good. She could put things together, solve things quickly with just the right amount of clues. And there were clues everywhere.

She still pinned him with a glare as she waited for his answer. Sighing, he relented, “Yes. The worst of the attacks seem to be coming from the west, so we think the attack will come from there. But it’s not really certain and we just want to take precautions.”

“Do you know who’s behind the attacks?”

“We think it’s a rebel uprising. There were a number of them during my oshe’gra’s reign. Then my father literally wiped them out during his reign. At least we’d thought he did. There was an eyewitness of Rath’s father’s attack. One guard managed to survive. He said they were wearing the insignia of the rebels army.”

“Well if your father thought he’d wiped them out, could it be just a small faction, pretending to be this rebel group? Either that or they could be doing these attacks to raise a larger army again.”

Zan nodded, “We’ve thought of that. I think they are trying to gather an army. But the problem is our scouts can’t seem to find them anywhere. Not even a whisper of them.”

Liz frowned, “But you think it’s an uprising?”

Zan nodded, “Yes. The attacks were too precise. Too well thought out. They knew the Chief Advisor was going to the Northern border, so they attacked. And the last twelve guards. Each one routinely patrolled a certain area. When they started to go missing, a search was sent out. All twelve were found together when they all patrolled in different areas far from each other.”

Liz nodded. It made sense. “Okay, so we are moving the people who live there. Are some staying?”

“No we’ve moved most of them to the southeast side of the kingdom, but we have two convoys left that need to go to the West Side City. That’s the only other place to put them that’s close enough to provide protection.”

“Fine. I’ll get started on that in the morning then.”

Zan sighed, “Liz…”

She shook her head, “No. It’s my job and I’ll do it. I can do it, you know.” She narrowed her eyes at her husband. “And your mother wants a word with you.”

He frowned, “I’m not changing my mind.”

“Oh yes you are, bos’de husigos eto dimo. If you know what’s good for you!” she folded her arms in front of her again as she suddenly felt the heat rising.

“Liz, this is serious.”

“I know it is, Diana explained everything. I know what to expect. I know about the connection and the cravings. I know not to overdo it when using my powers.” She paused as she felt the familiar skin tingling sensation, “And I’m going to see a healer later who will keep tabs on the baby and me. So, you see, everything is going to be fine.”

“Did she tell you about one particular craving?”

Liz nodded, “Yes. She told me about the heat I’ll be experiencing still.” She gritted her teeth as she glared at him, “Like the kind of heat I’m feeling right about now.”

Zan tilted his head and took a deep breath, immediately his eyes darkened. “Right.” he hissed.

Liz couldn’t help but stalk him as she moved around the table. She could hear his heart beating, the way it was getting faster.

When she was close enough, he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her flush with him, “See?” he growled, “This is exactly what I’m talking about.” He leaned down and nuzzled her neck, “It’ll happen when you least expect it too. You could be in the middle of an important meeting.”

She grabbed his head in her hands and stared into his eyes, even as hers flashed to orange. “They will know why I suddenly need to be somewhere else, it’s only natural.” She pulled him in for a deep, wet kiss that left them both breathless.

When she pulled away she growled, “We’ll continue this discussion later, I guarantee it. But in the meantime, I’ll race you to our rooms.”

Here ya go....

Part 27

Maria’s eyes went wide when she saw who it was that accompanied Rath. Trailing behind Rath were Liz and Zan both wearing huge smiles. Zan was being the protective husband with his arm around Liz’s shoulders, keeping her tucked in to his side.

However, when Maria let out a squeal of delight, Liz broke away from her husband’s side and ran to meet Maria halfway. As soon as they came together, they hugged fiercely and began talking excitedly.

Rath and Zan gave each other amused grins before Rath moved in to interrupt.

“Hey! I know you haven’t really seen Liz in a while, but what about me?” he asked with arms wide.

Maria giggled, “Hi, Rath.” She rose to her tiptoes to plant a quick kiss on his lips before turning back to Liz.

Before she could say anything, Rath interrupted again. “Aw come on. Is that all I get?” he pouted.

Liz giggled this time, “Ria, give Rath a proper hello before he has a fit. I can wait until we get to the barn. We’ll have our girl time there while the boys go for a walk.”

Maria laughed, “Sure.” Before she slid into Rath’s arms, she turned to smile at Zan, “Hey Zan. How are you?”

“Great.”

“Been treating my best friend right?”

Zan blushed, “Um, I certainly hope so.”

Liz chuckled, “He’s been wonderful, Ria. I’ll tell you more when we’re in the barn.”

“Okay, chica.” she replied as she fell into step next to Rath. Liz and Zan were in the lead and once more he had his arm around her shoulders. Maria couldn’t help but grin at the way Zan seemed so protective of Liz and the way the two of them were so affectionate with each other. It was plain for anyone to see how much they adored each other.

Then again, Rath was extremely affectionate with her too. Currently, his arm was around her waist, his fingers hooked into the loop of her jeans. When she turned to smile up at him, he grinned and leaned in to kiss her lips. Somehow they managed to get in a good kiss without stumbling too much.

When they made it to the barn, Zan and Liz went inside so that Zan could make sure Liz was going to be comfortable while Maria stayed outside with Rath.

“So, going for a walk huh?” she asked.

“Yep.” he replied, before wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close.

She giggled as his lips met hers. It soon turned into a moan as he deepened the kiss. Her arms slid around his shoulders and she leaned even closer to him. She really loved the way he slid his tongue against hers. It always sent chills down her spine.

Rath finally pulled away when air became necessary and placed his forehead against hers.

Breathing hard, he said, “Od’yia I miss you.”

She smiled shyly, “You saw me yesterday.”

“I know, but that was only for a little while. Wish I could really spend time with you. Lots more time.”

She sighed, “I know Rath. I’m sure we’ll have lots of time to spend together once I graduate. At least that’s a week away now.”

He nodded as he caressed her cheek. “Good.” He leaned in to kiss her again, enjoying her taste until Zan came out of the barn.

Zan cleared his throat, “Ready to go Rath?”

Slowly Rath pulled away from Maria. He gave her a smile and said, “We’ll be back when you and Liz are done, then I’ll spend a little time with you before going home, okay?”

“Okay.” She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before going into the barn to chat with Liz.

The boys waited until she was inside and the door closed before they began their sweep of the surrounding area. They were going to make their way to the park to see if they could find any clues of what the gang was up to.

**********************************************************************

As Maria made her self comfortable next to Liz, her best friend asked, “So, the last day of school is next Friday huh?”

Maria nodded, “Yep. But the graduation ceremony isn’t going to be held until Tuesday.”

“Oh.” Liz frowned. “Are you going?”

Maria sighed, “I think so. Mom and Dad are kind of excited about it.”

Liz rolled her eyes, “I thought you didn’t want to go. You always said you never cared about it.”

Maria nodded, “Yeah.”

“So, don’t go then. And come with Rath back to our world.”

Maria quirked an eyebrow at that, “What has he recruited you into begging me to go with him?”

Liz sighed, “Ria. He really didn’t have to beg. I agree with him. It’s dangerous for you up here. Every day that you remain here is more dangerous.” She slid her hand into Maria’s. “Rath has been keeping us informed about what’s going on with your parents and the gang. So, if the summons went out today, don’t you think the gang is already preparing to retaliate?”

Maria nodded, “Yeah, I told my parents that.”

“Then you can understand why we all think it’d be safer for you to come with us.”

Maria nodded again, “I know Liz. But think about it. If I just go with you now, my parents are going to come to the same conclusion they did about you. The gang captured me and killed me. I don’t want them to think that. I don’t want them to feel that pain.”

Liz sighed, “Well, unless we can come up…”

Maria interrupted, “I have. Remember when I said I wanted to travel after I graduate? Well, that’s what I’m going to tell my parents. But I’m not really going to see the world, or rather, I’m going to see Rath’s world.”

Liz grinned, “That’s a good idea.”

Maria nodded, “This way, they know I’m still alive and I can come back and visit when I want to.”

“Wow! That’s really good!”

Maria smiled, “Glad you think so. See, I have a brain too.”

Liz laughed, “Yes you do. I’m proud of you Ria.” She leaned in and gave her a hug.

“Thanks, chica.”

Liz sighed as she sat back, “I do miss having you there though. I mean, Lonnie and Diana are really wonderful, but they’re my family now. You are my best friend and well, there’s just so much I want to share with you.”

Maria chuckled, “Oh come on. You have a little sister again. You have a wise, caring mother and you have a doting, overprotective husband. On top of all that, you are also steeped in the duties that come with being a queen. How could you possibly be missing me?”

Liz rolled her eyes, “Oh please! I can’t have ice cream talks with Lonnie about significant others because Zan’s her brother. I can’t hang out and goof off with Diana. And there are things I’d rather share with my girl friend rather than with my husband. Including griping about him and some of the duties I have to deal with! So, yeah, I miss you!”

Maria blinked and after a pause, she said, “Ooookay, when you put it that way.”

Liz huffed, “Ria, there are so many things happening now, I just wish you were there to share it with me. Sometimes it’s just because I think you’d understand why I’m feeling that way more than the others since they aren’t human.”

Maria frowned, “That bad huh?”

“Well, it’s not bad, just different and sometimes it’s hard to explain it to them or make them understand because they were never human.”

Maria slid her arm around Liz’s shoulders and hugged her closer, “Well, I’m right here chica, so talk to me.”

Liz sighed and looked Maria in the eyes, “I’m pregnant.”

Maria stared at her for a few moments, letting Liz’s bold announcement sink in. As soon as the shock wore off, she bolted to her feet and exclaimed, “What!”

Liz nodded, “I’m pregnant.”

“How can you be?” she squeaked.

Liz sighed, “Well, that’s what happens when a man and woman…”

Maria growled, “I know how babies are made Liz! I’m asking how is that possible? And so soon!”

“Apparently the wahani are extremely fertile. And since Zan and I are ulhi’maos, it’s doubly so. Zan knew the moment I conceived and I knew it too because I’m connected to him.”

Granted, she was stretching the truth a bit, but she wasn’t ready to tell Maria that she was no longer human. She didn’t think Maria was going to take that too well, especially since she knew Maria wasn’t too fond of the wahani look. She was also hesitant to tell Maria about the new powers she had and the real truth about the pregnancy. She was certain Maria would be thrilled about the fact that Liz went into heat for her husband often and that it would only get worse.

Maria’s eyes were wide, “You knew the moment you conceived!”

Liz nodded, “Yep. The evening after the wedding night.”

Maria whistled, “Man, he doesn’t waste any time does he?”

“It’s not his fault Maria, he was as surprised as I was.”

Maria nodded and remained silent for a moment. Her eyes were on Liz the entire time. Suddenly, she smiled.

“Well, I should have known something was up.”

“What do you mean?”

She laughed, “For starters, Zan seemed to be more protective of you than usual. And well, looking at you now, I can see that healthy glow all pregnant women get.”

Liz rolled her eyes, “Right.”

Maria sat down next to Liz and asked seriously, “How do you feel about this?”

Liz smiled, “I’m happy. So is Zan. We both want this and I can’t wait to be a mother. It makes it easier to have Diana there to coach me, but most of all, I’m glad I have my husband at my side through all of this.” She squeezed Maria’s hand, “I could wish you were there sharing this with me too. I know you’d be the best aunt.”

Maria laughed, “Oh I would so spoil that kid if I had the chance!” As she hugged Liz, she added, “Well, since you are happy, then congratulations chica. You know I’ll be there for you soon.”

Liz hugged her back, “Thanks, Ria. I was hoping you’d understand.”

“Oh Liz. Of course I do. You know I’d support you in whatever you decide.”

Liz nodded.

Maria grinned, “Now, you also said you missed me because you wanted to gripe about Zan and your duties. So, tell me, what is he doing that’s getting on your nerves?”

Liz rolled her eyes, “Od’yia! Did you know that if he had his way, I’d be tied to the bed until after I gave birth to our baby!”

Maria pretended to be shocked as she gasped, “No!”

Liz frowned at her, “Maria!”

She grinned, “What? It’s Zan! He was protective of you from the first! Everyone knows that.”

“What? No he wasn’t.”

“Yes he was, you just didn’t see it because you were too busy shutting everyone out at first, then you were too busy trying to get into his pants.”

“Ria!” Liz exclaimed, but started giggling when she realized Maria was right.

Maria joined her in laughter for a while, until Liz caught her breath and asked her how things were going in the human world. Maria told Liz all about the talks she’d had with her parents, how things were progressing with the court dates and even that her parents thought Liz was officially killed by the gang.

While Liz knew there wasn’t anything to be done about it, she was sad that things had to go down the way they did. And she wished that Maria’s parents weren’t using that as the reason to strike out against the gang.

Maria didn’t let Liz dwell on that for long since she was now pregnant. Soon she began telling Liz stories about her school days and shared the most recent gossip with Liz. Before long, the two of them were giggling again at the antics of their high school and it’s inhabitants.

**********************************************************************

Rath frowned as he and Zan made their way back to the barn. They had been in and around the park for the last two hours trying to find something, anything that would give them a clue as to the gang’s whereabouts.

They had started in the middle of the park and made their way outwards in ever widening circles. They’d even searched for five miles out of the park in every direction and still came up empty handed.

Zan glanced at his best friend, sensing his agitation. “At least it doesn’t seem like they’ve been near the park at all, Rath. That’s good news because it means they haven’t been near Maria and her parents.”

Rath growled, “It still doesn’t make me feel any better. She’s been attacked before. I know it’s going to happen again because of what her parents are doing.”

Zan nodded, “True, but she’s got Teether’s tooth and hopefully Liz will convince her to come with us. If not, we’ll just have to trust that she’ll be careful and use the tooth as soon as she feels like she’s in danger.”

“I’d feel better if she went with us.”

Zan reached out and squeezed his friend’s shoulder in sympathy, “I know you will.”

**********************************************************************

When Liz looked towards the barn doors with that special smile on her face, Maria huffed, “I swear, I don’t know why you complain about him when you are just as bad.”

Liz sheepishly grinned at her best friend, “What? He’s just asking if it’s safe to come inside.”

“Right. And I knew he was talking to you because your whole face lit up the way it only does when he talks to you or comes near you. It’s written all over you, you really love that man.”

Liz giggled, “Yes, yes I do. I can’t help it Ria. He’s just so good to me.”

Maria laughed, “I’m not gonna be cruel and tell you that I don’t want to hear you complain about him then. You can complain all you want, but you have to take my ribbing too.”

Liz nodded, “Okay, so long as I can continue ribbing you.”

“Deal.”

The boys walked in as the two girls giggled.

“Are we interrupting?” asked Rath.

Maria shook her head, “Nope, we knew you were coming.” She said as she winked at Liz.

As Liz got up and slid into Zan’s side, Rath took her place on the haystack.

“Ready to go home, li’ho?” asked Zan.

Liz nodded, “It was good to see you Ria.”

Maria stood and gave Liz a hug, “It was good to see you too Liz! I’ll see you in a week okay?”

Liz nodded.

Maria turned to Zan and gave him a hug too, “Congratulations, Zan. I can’t wait to be an aunt and spoil the kid.”

Zan laughed as he hugged her back, “Thanks, Ria. Take care of yourself, okay? We want you to be there to spoil our kid too.”

“Will do.”

Liz and Maria hugged once more before Zan and Rath accompanied Liz to the portal. Zan went in first and Rath helped Liz down after Zan. Once they were gone, Rath closed the portal and returned to Maria’s side.

Maria noticed the frown Rath wore. She knew exactly what he was going to say even before he did, “So, you’re going to stay?”

Maria nodded, “Yes. I told Liz my plan and she thinks it’s good Rath. The last day of school is next Friday. After that, I’ll tell my parents that I’m going to travel, like I originally wanted to. That way, they’ll think I’m somewhere out there safe and alive. But I’m really going with you, to your world. It also allows me to be able to come back here from time to time to check up on them or visit them.”

Rath sighed as he sat down on the haystack.

Maria sat next to him and slid her hand into his, “It’s only about eight more days Rath.”

He turned to look at her, “That’s eternity for me.”

She smiled as she caressed his cheek, “I love you too, Rath.”

As he smiled at her confession, she leaned in and kissed him. Rath didn’t hesitate to pull her closer to him. When she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and deepened the kiss, he gently pushed her down until she was laying on the haystack.

Sliding his body over hers, he pressed her down with his weight and slid a hand down her side. He let his fingers brush the side of her breast over her shirt and was pleased with the way she leaned into his touch.

He kissed his way from the corner of her mouth, across her jaw to her ear, and down her neck. As he nipped at the skin just above her pulse, he felt her hands slide down his back as she moaned his name.

Maria slid one leg up his before wrapping it slightly around his leg and arching her body up to rub against his. She moved one hand from his back around to the front and lifted his shirt. Her fingers skimmed over the smooth flesh of his chest, leaving a trail of goose bumps.

Rath lifted up slightly to look down at Maria as his breath became shorter. He could hear his heart thundering in his ears. “Ria…”

“I know Rath. But I want to feel you. Can’t we just feel each other? I need to feel you.”

He groaned at her plea and the look in her eyes wasn’t helping. With a hesitant nod, he lowered his lips to hers again.

Maria immediately opened her mouth to him, teasing his tongue into her mouth with her own. As their kiss continued, she slid her hands over his chest again, lifting the shirt up as she went.

Rath left her lips long enough to allow her to remove his shirt, then he went back to tasting her. He knew he was playing with fire, but he couldn’t help it. He loved the way Maria’s hands felt on his skin. The way she explored his chest, shoulders, and back.

Her mouth left his and made it’s way along his neck and shoulder. She nibbled her way over his collar bone as he lifted himself up on his elbows to give her better access. Her hands slid down his chest again and made their way to the front of his pants.

When he felt her fingers push past the edge and graze against the hairs just beneath his navel, he let out a gasp. “Ria, are you sure?”

“Yes,” she mumbled against his chest, “I want to do this for you. Will you let me?”

He swallowed.

“Rath, I want you to touch me too. Please?” As she asked, she took his hand and guided it to her jeans.

That was all it took for him to lose his hesitancy. As she removed her hand and began to loosen the front of his pants, he began to undo her jeans.

Their lips met once again as their hands slid past pants and underwear to touch intimate skin. Maria arched once more as she felt Rath’s fingers graze her folds.

Rath moaned into her mouth at the feel of her slickness. He couldn’t believe he was touching her this way. Most of all, he couldn’t believe the way she responded to him. As his fingers delved deeper, caressing her bundle of nerves he felt the answering wetness begin to coat them.

Maria widened her legs, allowing him better access. She slid her hand deeper into his pants and cupped him. The moment her hand closed around his flesh, he growled and pushed himself into her hand.

Maria began to pump his flesh, but as he slid his fingers inside of her, she gasped and arched up into his touch. Rath removed his mouth from hers and made his way down her chest. Pushing her shirt up with his free hand, he tugged her pink lace bra out of the way and groaned at the sight of her breast.

“Leijha’mi,” he whispered just before he took the beckoning peak into his mouth.

Maria let go of him and buried her hands in his hair, holding him to her. As his fingers began to pump inside of her, he teased her nipple with his tongue. Soon he moved to the other nipple, sucking and teasing that one just like he had the first.

Maria clung to him as he picked up the pace with his fingers and mouth. Then when he added pressure to her clit with his thumb, she gave a small cry as her first orgasm shuddered through her.

Rath couldn’t help but lift his head to watch her, even as his fingers continued to move against her, prolonging her pleasure. He didn’t stop until he’d wrung the last shudder from her and she’d leaned back against the haystack with a sigh.

Opening her eyes she looked up at him and smiled. “Wow.” she whispered.

He gave her a gentle smile. “You liked it?” he quietly asked.

“Oh yeah.” she chuckled. She sat up and pushed him down, “Your turn.”

As he lay on his back, he said, “Ria, you don’t…”

“I know, but I want to.” Without another word, she tugged his pants down his hips.

He lifted them to help her until she’d slid them down to his thighs. Then she leaned in and kissed his lips as she curled her fingers around his flesh. Her tongue tasted his mouth as she picked up the speed of her pumping. She could feel the way he grew harder and thicker in her hand.

He moaned into her mouth as her thumb swirled around the head of his cock, then moaned again as she kissed her way down his chest. As she licked and nibbled his skin, he slid his hands into her hair, enjoying the way it felt against his fingers and his chest.

Maria licked a nipple before she nipped then sucked it into her mouth. Rath tightened his hold on her head as her hand gripped him harder. When she moved to the other nipple and gave it the same attention as the first, she took her free hand and slid it over his sack.

Rath couldn’t believe it when he felt her begin to massage his sack, even as she continued to tighten her hold on his cock and pump harder. Unable to hold back, he lifted his hips shamelessly pumping himself in her hand.

Her mouth still licked and nibbled it’s way over and down his chest. Just as she reached his navel and slid her tongue inside, he cried out, “Ria!”

Maria lifted her head to watch him come even as she continued to pump him. She did it until the last of his orgasm had passed and he’d collapsed against the haystack.

She moved over to his side and leaned down. Grinning as she watched him trying to catch his breath. “You liked it?” she asked, mimicking his earlier words.

“Oh yeah.” he said, also mimicking hers.

With a giggle, she leaned down and kissed him again. When she pulled away Rath sighed, “Sorry, I think I made a mess.”

Maria chuckled, “It’s okay, there’s some tissue in the first aid kit in the closet here.”

Rath smiled as he watched her make her way to the closet at the front of the barn while straightening her clothes. Even in her disheveled state, she was the prettiest thing he’d ever seen.

**********************************************************************

Zan lay on his back with his arms folded behind his head. He was in bed watching his wife sitting in a chair brushing her hair before bed. He loved watching Liz no matter what she was doing, but there was something special about watching her performing her routine before bed.

As she slid the brush through her hair, he noticed how shiny it was. He knew without a doubt that it would be soft and silky to touch. When she was done she laid the brush down on the desk and stood up. She smiled when she saw him staring at her.

“Enjoying yourself?” she asked.

He grinned and lifted the covers for her to join him, “Not really. I’d enjoy myself more if you were in here with me.”

Liz chuckled as she slid into bed next to her husband. She leaned in to kiss his cheek as he slid his arm around her. He pulled her into his embrace as she settled herself against him.

Sighing, she closed her eyes and slid her hand up his chest. “Idi agalo esu,” she whispered.

He kissed the top of her head, “Idi agalo esu alsis.”

They lay in silence for a while before Zan spoke up again, “So, Maria wouldn’t come with us?”

Liz shook her head, “She’s going to stay until next Friday for her last day of school. Then she’s telling her parents that she’s going to travel the world when she’s really coming here.”

After a pause, Zan said, “Makes sense. Then her parents will know she’s still alive and she can visit them when she wants.”

“Yes.”

“How’d she take the news?”

“She was surprised we could know so soon at first. But then I think she realized it’s you and me and our connection.” She laughed as she continued, “Then she said she should have known that’s why you were so overprotective and I was glowing.”

“Overprotective? Can you blame me for wanting to protect my mate?”

“I’m not blaming you.”

“No but I know you complained about it.”

She giggled, “Okay, maybe I did, but I wouldn’t change how you are for anything.”

He held her tighter, “Liz?”

“I said I wouldn’t change you. I didn’t say I’d do what you want me to.”

He growled, “You are so stubborn.”

“Yes, but you love me this way.”

He sighed, “I do.” He leaned down and kissed her lips, “Promise me you won’t ever do anything to put yourself in danger, dimo agalo. Promise me you will be very careful in taking care of yourself and the baby.”

“I’poskpro.”

He smiled as he sealed their lips together once more, ending their conversation for the night.

Part 28

So far Saturday was turning out to be a beautiful sunny day as Maria finished getting ready to go meet Rath in the barn. She smiled to herself as she thought of the heavy make out session she’d had with him the day before. Who knew Rath could be so talented with his fingers. She knew he’d been hesitant to do that, but when she assured him that they weren’t going all the way he had relaxed.

She was glad he had. Otherwise, she’d never gotten to experience her first orgasm ever. She knew that if it had been that good, he’d be wonderful when they finally made love. It was something she was now looking forward to with all her heart.

She slipped on her tennis shoes and made her way to the door, opening it just a crack to listen for sounds. She could hear her mother in the kitchen, cleaning up the breakfast remains. There was no sound from her father, but she assumed he was in his bedroom getting ready to go into town for the meeting with the lawyer.

Once she was certain everyone was busy, she walked out of her bedroom and closed the door behind her. She made her way to the front door, passing by the kitchen. Glancing in she saw her mother washing dishes with her back to the door.

Maria quietly made her way out of the house and headed towards the barn, enjoying the bright sunshine. She knew she still had a few minutes until she was due to meet with Rath. Stopping to pick a few wildflowers, she was unaware of her silent follower.

William had come out of his bedroom completely dressed when he’d spotted Maria disappearing out of the front door. He’d noticed how quiet she was as she left and decided to follow her to the barn to make sure she was fine before he went to the meeting. He grinned when he saw her stop to pick some wildflowers, reminding him of how she and Liz used to spend hours making flower wreaths to wear around their heads, wrists, and waists.

He was just about to call out to his daughter when a shadow detached itself from the side of the barn. His shout of warning came too late as the gang member reached Maria before he could. Still, he didn’t hesitate to run after them, hoping to prevent anything from happening to Maria.

Maria gasped as she felt arms grab her from behind just before she reached for the barn doors. She was yanked around to come face to face with one of the gang members. A scream welled in her throat as he gave her a sadistic grin and pushed her against the wall.

“Well, well, look what we have here!” Billy sneered.

Maria struggled against him, trying to bring her hands up to the necklace she wore, but he had her arms in a tight grip, refusing to let her raise them. As he leaned in she glanced over his shoulder and her eyes went wide. Her father was running straight at them with his hands raised.

This time Maria did let out a scream which blended with the cry Billy gave when William brought his hands down hard on the man’s back. The blow was enough to get Billy to let go of Maria and she stumbled against the wall, barely catching herself before she fell.

Billy turned towards William with a roar of rage as he righted himself. He was sort of hunched over because his back hurt from the blow, but he narrowed eyes of hatred on William. “You are so going to pay for that old man!”

“Come on, I’m ready,” replied William as he raised fists and went into a fighting stance.

Maria didn’t waste anymore time, she grabbed the tooth in her hands and pressed down hard. Silently she began praying as she watched the two men begin to circle. Fear clawed at her insides as she watched her father preparing to fight this gang member.

Suddenly, Billy launched himself at William, arm swinging high. William ducked the blow, but Billy was prepared with a low blow. Maria shouted as she saw her father wince when Billy’s fist connected with his stomach.

Doubling over, William struggled to get his wind back and willed himself to remain on his feet. Billy began to walk around him, in ever shrinking circles.

“Thought you were a match for me, huh old man? Should have known better than that.”

Maria glanced towards the barn doors and realized they were just a few steps away. She wondered if she could sneak in and grab a pitchfork or something to fight him with. At least that would keep him away from her father. As she began to inch her way along the wall, she kept her eyes trained on the two men.

Billy was moving closer to William until he suddenly stopped moving and looked up at Maria. He yelled, “Just where do you think you are going, bitch?”

William took that interruption to straighten up and swing at Billy, but all he succeeded in doing was catching him in the chin. Maria went still as she watched Billy narrow his eyes a split second before he reached into his jacket and pulled out a gun.

She screamed just as her father shouted, “Run, Maria!”

But she was rooted to the spot. She was aware of the gun being aimed at her father a split second before a loud bang sounded in the air followed by the smell of gunpowder. Helplessly, she watched as her father slowly crumpled to the ground, his arms around the wound in his chest.

A sob escaped her lips as Billy turned his attention towards her. With a frown he growled, “You are more trouble than you are worth, bitch!” Then he aimed the gun at her.

In the next instant, the gun went flying from his hand right before Maria saw the blur brush past her and leap onto Billy. She collapsed to her knees, vaguely aware of the sound of a neck snapping before the ground rose up to meet her.

**********************************************************************

“Hush! She’s coming to.”

Liz’s voice suddenly registered in Maria’s mind as her eyes opened and she found herself lying on her back looking up into three worried faces.

“Are you all right?” asked Zan as Liz and Rath helped her to sit up.

“Of course she’s not all right!” exclaimed Liz. “She was just attacked!”

Maria groaned and touched the side of her head where she was certain she’d landed when she blanked out. “How long have I been under?” she asked.

“A few minutes,” replied Liz. "Zan and I arrived just as you collapsed. Thankfully Zan was able to reach you before you split your head open.”

“Yeah, but you still managed to get a bump on your head.”

Rath growled, “At least it’s just a bump and not a split open skull!”

Suddenly Maria bolted up from the floor, “Oh my God! Dad!” As hands reached out to bring her back in, she looked at them all, “Why didn’t you see to him! Did he see you? Did you mind warp him?”

Liz took Maria’s hands in hers and whispered, “Ria, you should sit down.”

The look on her face said it all. As Maria took in the look on all their faces, she began to shake her head in denial, “No! No, that can’t be right! He can’t be dead!”

“Ria, I’m sorry, sweetie, but we didn’t get here fast enough.”

“NO!” she twisted away from them and ran towards the barn door.

Rath caught up with her easily and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back against him, “Maria, he’s gone.”

She began to sob as she struggled against him. He buried his face in her hair and held her to him, “It’s okay, mo’ba. It’s okay to cry.”

She crumpled in his arms and he turned her around to engulf her fully in his embrace. He held her while she cried.

After a few moments, Liz got up and made her way to their side. She wrapped her arms around the both of them, adding her comfort to her best friend. Zan came up behind her and wrapped his arms around Liz, supporting her too.

They stayed that way until Maria finally sniffled and looked up at Rath with teary eyes. “Was he…?”

Rath nodded, “He didn’t suffer much. It was a direct hit to the heart. He was gone before he hit the ground.”

She closed her eyes, “Where is he now?”

He sighed, “I haven’t touched him, except to see if he was alive.”

Liz rubbed Maria’s back as she said, “We were going to move him, but we realized your mother will have to know.”

Maria nodded, “Right. I-I should go tell her.”

Rath sighed, “I don’t think you should be alone right now, Ria.”

She looked up at him, “I won’t be, I’ll have mom.” She looked at the door, “Where’s the one who…”

“Where he was when he went down.”

“You killed him, didn’t you?” she asked Rath.

He nodded, giving her an unremorseful look. “He was going to shoot you. I wasn’t going to let him kill you.”

She swallowed, “What am I going to tell my mother?”

Zan spoke up, “Tell her exactly what happened.” As they all turned to look at him he continued, “Tell her your father followed you to the barn when you were attacked. He fought off the guy, but was shot. Before he died, he managed to kill the guy. But he knew you wouldn’t be able to get help until it was too late.”

“Zan, I don’t think…”

“No, Liz, he’s right.” interrupted Maria. “That’s what happened. He followed me and was able to protect me, but not himself.” She wiped her eyes as she pulled away from Rath. Looking at the others she said, “You should go. I’ll take care of things from here. I don’t think you should be here when the authorities come.”

Rath frowned, “I’m not leaving you alone.”

She turned to him with a thin smile, “It’s okay. I’ll be okay, now. I have to go be with my mom and then there’ll be cops all over the place. We’ll be okay.”

The look on Rath’s face told her he wasn’t convinced.

“Please, Rath. Just go. We can’t waste too much more time. Let me deal with this and take care of my mom.”

Rath hesitated for a moment before he growled, “I will be back later tonight to check on you.”

Maria nodded, “Okay, just please don’t let them find you.”

He nodded.

Liz moved up to Maria and hugged her, “I’m sorry Ria. I’m sorry we didn’t come sooner.”

Maria hugged her best friend just as tightly, “Thanks, at least you got here for me.”

“We’ll be back tomorrow okay?” Liz whispered.

“Okay.” Maria moved out of Liz’s embrace and allowed Zan to hug her too.

“If you need any of us sooner than tonight, you use the tooth, okay. I’ll keep Teether with me at all times and Rath too.”

She gave a soft laugh, “Right. I’ll do that. Thanks, Zan.”

As he and Liz made their way to the portal, Rath engulfed her in another hug, “Are you sure?”

“I have to do this Rath.” She hugged him tightly, “Thank you, for saving me.”

He pressed his lips against the top of her head. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too.” She pulled away from him and smiled through her tears, “Go.”

He walked backwards to the portal, “I’ll be back tonight.”

She nodded, watching as he disappeared into the hole before she sniffed, squared her shoulders, and prepared to face the music.

**********************************************************************

Maria wearily made her way down the hallway towards her room. It was now nearly midnight and her mother had finally succumbed to the sleep inducing drugs the doctor had prescribed for her.

After Maria had returned to the house, in a semi-stupor, to tell her mother what had happened, things had gotten highly emotional. Amy hadn’t believed her until Maria had sat in the chair in the kitchen for a few moments with tears rolling down her cheeks. Then she’d taken off at a run out the door.

Maria hadn’t moved as her mother’s screams rent the air, even reaching her inside the kitchen. It was nearly an hour later when the authorities began arriving on the scene. For the next several hours, they investigated the bodies and took Maria’s and her mother’s statements.

Maria couldn’t count the number of times she’d answered the same questions again and again until they were all satisfied that she wasn’t changing her story.

She’d told them that she had been on her way to her favorite place to relax when she’d stopped to pick some flowers. That was when she’d been attacked by the guy and her father had come to her rescue. She’d watched them fight until the guy pulled out a gun and shot her father.

Her father had managed to kill the guy before his wound had gotten the better of him. He’d already died before she could go for help. She had even told them she’d blanked out for a moment from hitting her head when the guy had shoved her away to fight with her father.

In the end they had believed her. Especially when they’d taken her to the hospital to get her head checked out and the doctor confirmed she’d had a good blow to her forehead. He said it was enough to knock her out momentarily, but not enough to cause any serious damage. Still, they kept her in the hospital until the tests came back clean.

They’d also kept Amy in the hospital because she’d gone into shock once the authorities had arrived. When she’d come out of shock, she’d been hysterical and they’d had to sedate her.

After all the questioning, examinations, and drama was over with, Maria was thoroughly drained. She’d convinced the doctor that she was well enough to go home and he’d allowed it after giving her medication for any headaches she might have as a precaution. Her mother had returned home with her, having her own prescription of medication to help keep her calm and sleep better.

As soon as they’d gotten home, Amy had begun hysterically sobbing again and Maria had instantly reached for the pills, not knowing what else to do for her heartbroken mother. She’d sat next to her mother on the bed until she’d finally fallen asleep before making her way to her own bedroom.

As she closed the door behind her, she heard the soft rapping against her window. Hesitantly and silently, she made her way towards the window. As she neared it, she heard his voice, “It’s me Ria. It’s Rath.”

With a relieved sigh she pushed aside the curtain to gaze at him through the glass. He smiled up at her as she opened the window and stepped back to allow him entrance.

He was as silent as a cat as he leaped into the room with ease. She closed the window and replaced the curtain before falling into his arms with a soft sob.

Rath held her close allowing her to cry against him. He guided her over to her bed and sat down, rubbing soothing circles over her back and whispering comforting words in her hair.

It was a while later when her crying had subsided, but she still clung to him for comfort. He continued to give her what she needed. With a sigh, she finally pulled away slightly and looked up at him through red, puffy eyes.

“Thanks. I really needed that.”

He smiled, “My pleasure.” He reached up to caress her cheek, “How are you holding up?”

“Better, now that most of it is over.” She sighed, “Now I just have to get through the funeral and it’s preparations.”

“Need help?”

She shook her head, “No. Besides, we know you can’t be seen.” She sighed, “I’ll be okay. It’s mom I’m worried about.”

He frowned at that, “She didn’t take it well, did she?”

“No. She was rather shaken up by it.” She closed her eyes and began to recount the entire day to Rath.

Halfway through the story, they had made themselves comfortable on the bed. Rath was lying on his back with Maria’s head leaning against his chest and his arms around her. By the time she had finished telling him about her day, he could hear the tired note in her voice.

When she’d remained quiet for a few minutes and her breathing had begun to even out, he’d tried to slip away.

Maria jerked her head up and blinked sleepily at him, “What is it?”

He gave her a gentle smile and caressed her cheek. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“I wasn’t asleep. Just resting.”

He nodded, “Okay, but you need to get some sleep soon. You’ve had a really long day.”

She looked at him for a moment before she whispered, “Don’t go.”

Rath couldn’t breathe with the look she was giving him. Her eyes were pleading with him to stay.

“Please? Stay with me tonight? I-I don’t want to be alone. I just need you to hold me tonight, Rath.”

He nodded slowly, “Okay, mo’ba. Okay. I’ll stay with you.”

He let go of her long enough to let her go into the bathroom to change. While she was in there, he removed his shoes, socks, and shirt before slipping under the covers.

When she came out, she was wearing a black wife beater and red pajama bottoms. He held the covers up for her as she slid in and curled against his side. Together they got comfortable and he held her until she was really asleep this time. Only then did he allow himself to fall asleep too.

Hi guys, yes I am back. For those of you reading ERofD, you know why I missed last weeks post too. My boyfriend's grandmother passed away Sun. Aug. 27th and the funeral was this past Sat. so I didn't have a chance to work on this story. Thankfully all seems to be calm right now, so here's the next part.

Thank you to RhondaAnn, candycane, IzzyEvans, roswell, Bonnie, and Michelle in Yonkers for all your thoughts and prayers.

spray- Well, Rath was already on his way to meet Maria when she activated the tooth. Zan and Liz arrived later. Thanks.

Cocogurl- Yes, Rath really loves her.

roswell-

M in Y- I know, I know, but he'll be there as much as he can. I'm back. Sorry, but you know why I couldn't be that heroic this time.

cowgirl- thanks.

nibbles- Yep. Be mad at Zan too, he won't let Liz go  .

vero- awwww... :(

tequa- Wow, you are mad. Well, Zan won't let Liz go because of the way her pregnancy works and he HAD to get married on his coronation, so they couldn't have waited anyway....

Rhonda- You think  ? Thanks.

L.- Good questions! I'll answer all of them over the next couple of parts.

Izzy- Zan won't let her go because of the way her pregnancy works. Glad you liked the pics.

candy- Hmmm?

Bonnie- Thanks.

Luna- I will have the answers to those questions in the next few chapters.

LJL-

LB4- Oh, you are good! No, Pierce is in the human world. What is going on there is seperate from what is going on with the Wahani and I just hope that didn't give much away  . Thanks, I try  . Well, war waits for no one. Thank you again.

Part 29

Liz stood at the window staring out at the night sky with a frown on her face. She heard the bedroom door open and close behind her, but didn’t turn around to acknowledge her husband.

Seconds later she felt his arms wrap around her waist, pulling her back against his chest. “She’ll be okay, Liz. Rath is with her.”

“I know he is,” she said, a little too quickly.

Zan sighed as he let his hands rest protectively over her stomach, “Leijha’mi, you know it’s not safe for us to go. Besides, Rath is more than enough to protect her. And we all know she needs him the most now.”

Liz closed her eyes, “I know, Zan. It still doesn’t make me feel any better. She still has to deal with Amy alone, none of us can help her with that and I’m worried that it’s too much for her.” She turned in Zan’s arms as she said, “Maria needs to be able to mourn her father’s passing instead of having to deal with Amy’s breakdown.”

Zan nodded, “That’s where Rath comes in, Liz. He’s there for her when she needs him.”

“She needs him there during the funeral, Zan. She’s being strong for Amy during all of this, but who’s being strong for Maria? Rath can’t do that until everyone has gone and they are alone.”

Her lips began to tremble as she thought of her best friend having to be the grown up, holding everyone else’s hand. Maria was all alone up there because Amy hadn’t taken William’s death well. Maria had to be the strong one. She was the one who was keeping Amy from going off the deep end.

Rath couldn’t be there for her until everyone had gone away. It was only behind closed doors that Maria could finally break down and find comfort and strength in Rath’s arms.

Liz and Zan had visited with Maria the morning after William’s death, but it had been a short visit. Soon Amy was awake and needing Maria’s attention. On top of that, Maria had to prepare for the funeral too. Thankfully, they were able to get things situated so that the funeral could be held two days later.

In all that time, Liz hadn’t been able to see Maria again. All of Maria’s time was occupied during the day with the repercussions of her father’s death and with her mother’s sorrow. Her nights were occupied with getting Amy to sleep with the medication, then she was too exhausted to do anything other than curl up into Rath’s arms and sleep.

Liz was at least grateful that Rath had been with Maria every night since William’s death. At least Maria had his strength and comfort when Liz couldn’t be there for her. She knew Zan was right, Maria needed him more than she needed anyone else right now.

**********************************************************************

Rath ran his fingers through her hair, as she lay against his chest. He could feel her even breathing against his skin and hear the steady beat of her heart. She was finally asleep after hours of crying in his arms.

He knew without a doubt that the day of the funeral had been the hardest day Maria had ever had to go through. Despite the fact that most of it had been taken care of by some of the people who were close to Maria’s parents in the group that was fighting against the gang, Maria had still gotten up at the crack of dawn to prepare for the service.

The funeral itself was held late in the afternoon, but Maria had been running around doing last minute errands and trying to get her mother ready for the funeral. It had taken her a couple of hours to get her mother up since Amy had heavily sedated herself the night before. The drugs were still with her when Maria had managed to get her up around ten in the morning.

Unfortunately the drugs had worn off about two hours before the funeral, which meant Amy became an emotional mess. Granted, Maria could see that Amy was doing her best to hold herself together, but it had been a struggle.

Maria had seen her mother start to tremble when she was trying to lend a hand with things. A certain word or object would set her mother off and she would start shaking or tears would trail down her cheeks. Amy would then disappear into the restroom for a few moments and when she came out, she was fine again.

Then the funeral had started. Things had seemed to be okay until they had begun to lower the casket into the ground. At that point, Amy had lost it. Maria had been grateful that Amy’s friends from the group were there to escort her back home because she had been at a loss of how to handle her mother.

As Amy was escorted out of the cemetery, Maria had stayed behind to say her last goodbyes to her father. She’d remained there for a while after the others had already left.

What she hadn’t known was that Rath was there too. Hidden in the trees, far enough away so that none of the people would see him, he’d kept a silent watch on his girl. His heart was torn to see Amy lose it and Maria looking so lost. Then he’d wanted to go to her so badly when she’d remained behind alone. He had almost decided to get out of the tree and go to her when he saw one of Amy’s friends come to escort Maria to the car so they could all return home.

The wake was being held at Maria’s house, so there were already several people there when Maria had arrived. Amy was sitting curled into a ball on the couch with several others surrounding her. She no longer seemed to be hysterical, but there were tear tracks on her face and she was extremely quiet. She sat staring at nothing and wasn’t responding to anyone there.

Maria was grateful to everyone who watched over her mother, but she had wished they’d leave already. Putting on a smile, she had thanked them for their condolences and concern and told them she was fine. Slowly they began to leave and a few had asked Maria if she needed anyone to stay with them. Maria had declined their offers and said she and her mother would be fine.

It was while the last two women were finishing up cleaning the remains of the wake that Amy had come out of her stupor and started crying again. Maria had gone to her and hugged her before asking if she wanted to go get comfortable. Amy had nodded and they’d walked to her bedroom.

An hour later, Maria had said goodbye and thanks to the last two people before locking up and heading towards her room. She stopped in to check on Amy and found her sitting in a ball on her bed in tears. Amy had looked up at Maria helplessly and said she couldn’t sleep. Every time she closed her eyes she saw William laying in the coffin.

When she started to shake and sob again, Maria had sat down with her and held her in her arms. Finally, Amy pushed her away and said they both needed to get some sleep. She had gotten up then and went to the bathroom to take her medication. Maria knew it was the only way her mother would be getting any sleep.

Once her mother had gotten into bed, Maria had sat with her until she’d fallen asleep. Then she had made her way to her own room. The moment she had walked inside and closed the door, Rath had come out of the bathroom. Maria had launched herself into his arms and began sobbing.

Rath had moved them to the bed and held Maria as she cried out all of the pain and sorrow she’d held in all day long. When her tears had tapered off, he’d managed to get her undressed and into a pair of short pajamas before tucking her in. Then he’d taken off his shirt, shoes, and pants before climbing in with her and holding her again. She’d sighed against his chest as he held her, rubbing soothing circles on her back. He could still feel some stray tears drip onto his chest, but he said nothing.

Finally, she had fallen asleep and he had remained awake enjoying the feel of holding her in his arms. Leaning over, he pressed a kiss against her forehead and smiled when she sighed in her sleep. He settled back into the mattress and closed his eyes, finally allowing himself to get some sleep.

**********************************************************************

Heads raised as Rath trudged into the meeting room, still looking slightly rumpled.

As Charles held out a chair for Rath, Kyle raised an eyebrow and asked, “Rough night?”

Liz sighed, “Leave him alone, Kyle.” To Rath she asked, “How is she?”

Rath raked his face with his hands as he replied, “As good as she can be. She thinks her mother is getting better because she seemed to be behaving more logically yesterday. There were a few times Amy lost it, but she still managed to come out of it better than before. Maria’s just worried that Amy will get too dependent on the medication to help her sleep.”

Liz nodded, “Yeah, I’m worried about that too.” She reached out and took his hand in hers, “Thank you Rath, for being there for Maria when I can’t.”

Rath smiled as he squeezed her hand, “It’s something I need to do too, but you are welcome.” They shared another smile before Rath cleared his throat and said, “Okay, so what have I missed?”

Zan shook his head as Liz moved to stand next to him again, “Not much, we were just talking about the moves into the city being finalized.”

Liz nodded, “I was telling them that the last convoy is being settled in as we speak. That means that everyone should be completely moved in to their new homes by the end of the week.”

Rath nodded, “That’s good news.”

“Indeed it is,” said Valenti. “The other good news is that the last batch of guards have been fully trained and are ready to be moved to the border.”

“Good, see if they can be there before the end of the week. I want the borders fully protected since the scouts are reporting back to us by then. Hopefully they will have some news about what the rebels are planning.” replied Zan.

“Will do.”

Charles spoke up then, “All of the remote security systems have been checked and repaired by my teams, so everything should be running smoothly now. I’ve also made sure that each station has the required number of people to man it and they are currently teaching the guards assigned with them about the systems so there won’t be any careless mistakes.”

“That’s great news, Charles. Hopefully this will help keep those attacks at bay now.” Zan said as everyone else nodded their agreement.

“Kyle? Have you heard anything from the scouts?” asked Rath.

He shook his head, “Nothing yet. Although I’m not surprised. They should all be too deep into enemy territory to be able to communicate with us at this time. So, we’ll just have to wait until they all return on the appointed date.”

Zan sighed, “I don’t like this.”

Rath nodded in agreement, “I agree. Something about this just doesn’t feel right. And I’m worried about our scouts being unable to contact us.”

“Me too.” Zan said as he ran his hand through his hair, “I’m worried that they’ll get into trouble and no one will be able to help them. These rebels have been able to elude us all this time. Who’s to say that they know we’re looking for them and are aware of our scouts tracking them.”

Kyle nodded, “We all know this Zan. The scouts knew it too when they volunteered for this assignment. They knew there was the possibility that the rebels were already watching us.”

Valenti added his agreement, “We all made sure the scouts knew what they were getting into. Most of them are veterans, so they know missions like this aren’t easy. They know that their lives are at stake here, but they also know it’s for the safety of our kingdom. It’s a risk they were willing to take, Zan. You didn’t force anyone to do this.”

As Liz slid her hand into his, he nodded, “I know, I know. I just don’t like being in the dark. It bothers me that these rebels know so much about us, yet we don’t know a thing about them. And the fact that they managed to stage those attacks with no eyewitnesses except the one guard that barely survived, it doesn’t bode well for us.”

Valenti sighed, “You’re right. We can’t fight an invisible enemy. So, we are going to have to keep our fingers crossed that those scouts come back with something good for us to use. It’s all we can do now.”

Rath added, “At least we’ve finally gotten the borders fortified with the added guards and security systems. Hopefully that will go a long way to keeping the kingdom safe.”

Once again everyone nodded their agreement.

“Okay, we’ve touched on everything on the agenda. Anyone have anything else to add?” Zan paused as everyone shook their heads, “Okay then, this meeting is closed.”

**********************************************************************

Liz sat at her desk in the Queen’s office perusing the day‘s paperwork. It had been Diana’s office until the day Liz had married Zan and become the new queen. Now, it was where she went to take care of any of the business she was responsible for.

Diana often joined her there, sitting in one of the comfortable overstuffed chairs with whatever she’d brought to occupy herself with while Liz worked. She stayed quiet unless Liz needed her advice or when Liz needed a break from the tedious paperwork.

That afternoon, however, Diana was busy remodeling the new suites that she and Phillip had finally moved into after retiring from their duties as a royal couple. Liz smiled to herself as she thought of how hard it had been to get Phillip to move out of the castle and let go of his responsibilities as King.

That little tug of war between Zan and Phillip continued on even now. It was a constant source of agitation for Zan to find his father trying to butt his nose into Zan’s business. Liz knew Phillip didn’t mean to undermine his own son. Phillip knew Zan was more than capable of running the kingdom on his own, but it was hard to let go of something you’d been responsible for after so long a time.

Liz could only hope she and Zan would have that chance to retire to their own little place someday. His grandparents and great grandparents hadn’t been so lucky. Neither had Rath’s father.

She frowned as she thought about the impending war that everyone seemed to be expecting. She hoped that it wasn’t going to be as bad as everyone thought it would be. Still, she wasn’t going to delude herself. She knew that it wasn’t a good sign that no one could find clues about the rebels and no one had even seen one of them. The enemy was way too good at hiding.

She shook her head to clear her mind of those thoughts and instead began to think about Maria. She really missed her best friend, but knew Maria had the right of it about wanting to stay until after graduation. Still, she was worried what was going to happen now that William was dead. She didn’t think Maria was going to want to leave her mother alone up there.

And Rath wasn’t going to like leaving Maria up there either. She sighed as she tried to think of some way to help Maria and Amy, then wondered if it might not be a bad idea to tell Amy the truth. Would Amy be able to handle that? If she could, maybe she could come down here too. Liz wondered if Amy would be willing to leave that world and the fight against the gang to come to a strange new world.

As she sat there thinking of ways to help the people she loved, her skin began to tingle. She sighed and looked down at her stomach. Placing a hand over it, she whisper, “Couldn’t you hold on for a few more hours? It’ll be dark soon.”

She tried to focus on finishing up the rest of the paperwork, but as she felt the fever begin, she threw her hands up in exasperation. “All right, fine, have it your way.”

As soon as she said that, the door to her office flew open. Zan stood there with white eyes flashing.

Liz growled as she slowly rose to her feet, eyes shifting to orange.

He grinned, “Sorry, leijha’mi, you can’t talk the baby out of needing nourishment.”

She growled once more, “You are enjoying this entirely too much, husigos eto dimo!”

He raised an eyebrow as he began to stalk her around the room, “Me? I’m merely doing my duty.”

She bared her fangs and hissed before sprinting out of the room. As she ran for their bedroom, she could hear his laughter in her mind.

And you aren’t enjoying this either? came his sarcastic remark.

I’d enjoy it more if you caught me, maos dimo. She replied as she threw open the bedroom door and launched herself at the bed.

She was caught in mid-leap, as Zan wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to his chest.

Leaning over her, he whispered into her ear, "Oyare, leijha’mi."

Shivers ran down her spine as she turned in his arms to wrap hers around his shoulders. He leaned down and kissed her, pulling her close to his body as he did.

Liz moaned into his mouth as she felt her skin heating up more. Pulling away from him, she trailed one hand down his chest and tugged at his clothes. “Ryomeh deh kepai emos klif, idi thewa meco kepai dimo rati meco oyare. Idi oka thi thewa dimo gerna meco ekhru prathis.”

He nodded as he began removing his clothes, watching her as she removed her own and backed towards the bed. “Hosa esu heswi, va’sique dimo.”

Liz tossed the last of her clothes to the floor as Zan pounced on her. Laughing, she slid an arm around his shoulder as he lifted her in his arms and carried her the rest of the way to the bed.

His lips descended on hers as he lowered her to the bed and pressed his body over hers. She moaned into his mouth and slid her hands down his back. Her legs opened to accommodate his hips as he settled between them.

Zan moved his lips from her mouth to trail kisses along her jaw and down her neck. He began to lick a trail from there to her breasts, swirling his tongue around her areole before taking it into his mouth.

Liz arched off the bed and dug fingers into his back as he began to suck slowly. A whimper escaped her lips as the temperature of her body continued to rise.

Zan knew she was heating up. Not only could he feel the heat, but he could smell how much she needed him. He knew she didn’t want to rush things, so he was taking his time to pleasure her. He wanted to feel her as much as she wanted to feel him.

Liz could feel the trembling of her body begin as Zan ran his hands over her body. She kept her eyes closed tight and allowed him to take his time with her. She loved the way he touched her. The way his hands gently shaped her curves.

As his fingers caressed her folds, another whimper escaped. She tried not to give in, but even Zan heard the plea escape her lips.

“Asepros,” she whispered.

Zan couldn’t deny his wife what she wanted. Not when she asked like that. Removing his fingers, he positioned his body over hers and slid in slowly.

A hiss of satisfaction escaped both of them until he was completely sheathed inside of her.

“Yene! Zan!” Liz cried out.

“Liz,” moaned Zan, as he captured her lips in his once more. Together, they began to move their bodies in the age old ritual of mating.

**********************************************************************

Maria slid her hand down Rath’s chest as she moved over him. Rath groaned into her kiss when he felt Maria’s heat pressing against his groin. When her hand reached his underwear and started to tug them off, he curled his fingers around them and mumbled against her lips.

“Ria, please.”

Maria lifted her head slightly to look down into his eyes, “I want to Rath. Don’t you want me?”

Rath swallowed at the look in her eyes.

After the meeting that morning, he’d gone to his rooms to take a nap, letting Kyle be Zan’s sparring partner since he really needed some sleep. When he’d woken up late that afternoon, he’d gone to meet with Zan again until Liz’s heat had interrupted them. So, he’d spent the rest of the time catching up on his duties as Chief Advisor before finally going to see Maria for the night.

When he’d arrived, she was already in bed, waiting for him. Amy had called it an early night and was already fast asleep by the time he’d arrived. Maria had let him in and they’d curled up together in her bed. She had told him about her day as they lay there, but eventually one thing had led to another.

So far Maria had managed to get all of their clothes off except for his underwear and her panties. He’d thought they’d just fool around like the last time, but he could tell, Maria wanted more.

He sighed and lifted a hand to her cheek, “Are you sure about this?”

“Yes. I want to be with you Rath.” She turned her face to place a kiss in his palm before she took his hand in hers and led it back to her breast.

Rath curled his fingers around her breast, kneading it as she continued to remove his underwear. He lifted his hips to help her slide them off, then wrapped his arms around her and rolled her beneath him.

His lips covered hers as he slid his hands down her body and removed her panties. As he nudged her thighs with his knee, he slid his fingers over her folds testing her readiness.

Maria gasped and lifted her hips to meet his fingers. She spread her legs wider as he slid a finger inside of her. He pulled away to look down at her as he slid a second finger inside.

She moaned, “Oh Rath.” He gave her a smile as she slid her hand down his chest until she was cupping him in her hand. He closed his eyes with a moan as she began to stroke him.

“Ria,” he gasped as his hips jerked.

He slid his fingers out of her and moved down to kiss her again. He slid one hand into her hair and supported himself with the other as he felt her guiding him to her heat. Slowly he slid into her, until he hit her barrier.

Maria slid both hands around his hips to his ass and pulled him down even as she lifted her own hips. Rath swallowed her cry as he felt himself pushing past her barrier. He held himself completely still until he felt her rotating her hips against his.

Soon, she was moaning into his mouth as she lifted her hips to meet his downward thrusts. Her legs wrapped tight around his, urging him to pick up the pace.

“Ria,” he whispered against her lips.

She smiled as she continued to kiss him. “I love you, Rath.”

“I love you too, baby.”

She arched her body up and threw her head back, fingers curling into his back, “Oh, God, Rath.”

Rath leaned over her and captured her lips in his just as she let go. Her scream was swallowed by his kiss as he continued to thrust into her, prolonging her release.

As she began to tremble beneath him, he felt her arms pulling him closer to her. Her lips pressed against his ear as she whispered, “Let go, baby, I’m here with you.”

He groaned against her neck and let go, releasing himself inside of her even as her walls tightened around him and she stroked his back with her hands.

She held him close long after their climax had left the both of them. Rath finally lifted his head from her neck and took her lips in a long, slow kiss. She was smiling at him when he lifted his head to look into his eyes.

“Thank you, Rath.”

He caressed her cheek, “I love you, Ria.”
