Title: Far From The Truth
Couple: Candy
Rating: Teen
Disclaimer: Nope I don’t own them wished I did. Also I have som actually lines from the episode in the story.
Author's Note: Special thanks to Cam for beta reading for me. You Rock! Banner is made by me.

Name: Sarah

Genre: Angst
Time Frame: Season 1
Rating: Author’s choice
Must reference the episode: 285 South
It must include the following phrase: Michael to Maria - "Ouch, really hit me where it hurts why don't you?"
Anything else you want to include: While questioning Michael in the nookie hotel, they start to argue about Michael's inability to feel emotions, leading to an argument about Michael never being able to be with a woman like her. Oh and I’d also like an almost kiss, just like in the show. If you choose to make them actually kiss, bonus points.

Part: 1/1

“It’s like the Porno Version of Aladdin,” Maria Deluca exclaimed as she walked through the door of the poorly furnished hotel room of the Sultan Hotel Hideaway.

Michael Guerin pushed past her and plopped down on the bed with a sigh. Didn’t she ever shut up he wondered as he rubbed his tired eyes. “At least it’s warm.”

Maria scrunched her nose up in disgust as she looked around. “I don’t want to even know what I could catch in here.”

The princess act was getting on his last never. “You know if you’d stop being a princess about things…”

Before he could finish she cut him off with a furious glare. “Princess? No, no. I think I’ve been a pretty good sport up until now, but I’m cold and hungry and I’m stuck in some nookie motel with a guy I barely even know. I…I just want to go home,” she propped her chin on the palm of her hand feeling so frustrated and wanting to cry at the same time that she wasn’t sure what to do. ‘God all I really want to do is go home and have a nice bubble bath and have this day over with.’

He looked at her with his mouth agape as he took in her expression and for a moment he started to feel sorry for her since it was technically his fault that she was here in the first place. He didn’t know what to make of her, one minute she was full of fire and the next she sounded defeated and he hated how it made him feel. Suddenly remembering that there were some vending machines out front when he had signed for the room he stood up. Since he couldn’t take her back home the least he could do was feed her. “Look I saw some vending machines out front. I’ll go see what they have.”

She gave him a solemn nod and as he started out the door. ‘What a hell of a day,’ she sighed to herself as she watched him leave. First she was partnered up with Guerin for a stupid history assignment and of course he wasn’t in class as usual, then she was forced to track him down. Once she’d found him he was uncooperative until she mentioned that she had to drop off her mom’s merchandise at the Lift Off Gas Station. Suddenly he was already to do the assignment as long as she would let him bum a ride from her. She knew she shouldn’t have let him in the car since his aura just screamed ‘criminal tendencies.’

To top it all off her life wouldn’t be complete if said alien didn’t abduct her. She should have followed her instincts and just accepted a damn F or just made up the answers. But did it end there? Oh no the jackass was then pulled over by the police for speeding and she had to come up with a good, but yet embarrassing lie about having to pee to save his extraterrestrial ass. Although the only good thing about it was they did have sort of a bonding moment because she made him give her a good reason why she shouldn’t turn him in. He explained that it was a lead about where he was from, and she could understand how it felt not knowing and having unanswered questions. The rest of the ride was in silence until the Jetta’s engine started to give out. While trying to fix it the infuriating Spaceboy then proceeded to fried her Jetta’s engine and left them stranded on 285 south because he wouldn’t slow down when she asked him too.

Now she was stuck here waiting for the Calvary to come and rescue them well her mainly. Hearing the turning of the doorknob she jumped back in fright. It seemed her nerves were working overtime lately. Was it any wonder with all that the Czechoslovakians could do? She knew it was silly to feel frighten of them and their powers especially him, but she couldn’t help. Seriously what would stop him from disintegrating her and hike the rest of the way to Texas? She watched as he walked in with a bundle of goodies and dropped on the nightstand. Spotting a box of animal crackers, which were her favorite treat as a kid, she reached over to pick them up.

Michael grabbed himself a Heresy bar from the pile of treats. Pulling out a bottle of Tabasco sauce he doused a healthy bit over the chocolate before he took a bite with a look of satisfaction on his face.

Maria looked on with curiosity, “ So do you get hungry like the rest of us?”

Michael scoffed at the question and wondered for the millionth time what exactly did she sniffed in those vitals she carried, “Yes, of course I get hungry!”

This made her wonder what other urges he may feel and considering she was going to be spending the night along with him she wanted to know. “What… other urges do you feel?”

He noticed that she made quick glances towards the bed and he tried his best to hide the smirk the threatened to form on his face. She was fidgeting as she waited for his answer. He stalked up to her seductively and resisted all urges to touch her. He would be lying to himself to say that he wasn’t attracted to her. She just put off these weird vibes that pulled him to her and if he wasn’t an alien being hunted by the F.B.I. he would definitely act on those urges she was questioning. But she was a forbidden fruit that he’d never taste no matter how luscious she looked with her mouth parted in anticipation. “Not if you were the last woman on Earth,” He lied.

She broke out of the heated gaze and took a moment and let out her breath and with a typical come back she replied, “Ditto”.

Tired because of the day’s activities Michael walked over to the big ugly green armchair and sat down to finish his candy bar. He took off his jacket when Maria implied that she wasn’t about to fail the assignment as she took a seat on the bed.

“So what’s you favourite Ice Cream?”

“Pistachio,” The spiked hair alien answered with out a second thought.

Maria quickly wrote the answer down and moved on to the next question. “What’s you favorite TV show?”

“Win Ben Stein’s Money.”

The blonde looked up and muttered, “ It figures.”

“Favorite book?”

With a sigh Michael answered, “James Joyce’s Ulysses.”

She looked up at him in disbelief. “You have not read Ulysses!”

Michael decided to prove her wrong and quote his favorite line from the book. "What incensed him the most was the blatant jokes of the ones who pass it all off as a jest, pretending to understand everything and in reality not knowing their own minds." Page 655...told you, you wouldn't understand. Next question.”

Maria couldn’t believe it that Michael Guerin was actually smart. She always thought he was just a delinquent that didn’t care about book stuff. He was like this enigma. “Well if you are so smart then why do you fail every class?”

He looked at her suspiciously. He wasn’t about to start answering personal questions. “What number was that?”

“It’s my own personal question. Okay,” She answered back with sass.

“I don’t answer personal questions. Okay,” He mocked.

“Why?” She asked wanting to know why he was so closed off beside the obvious.

Michael rubbed a finger over his right eyebrow in frustration. He couldn’t get personal and he wasn’t about to let this human in front of him know his deepest darkest secrets especially since she was known as a blabbermouth.

She knew he’d be difficult but she had her ways of getting the answers she wanted, “Okay so why don’t you just answer number 16. What are you afraid of?”

“ I hate this! It’s fucked up,” he countered defensively.

“Why can’t you answer a simple question? I mean if you’d ask me I’d answer it. It’s not like I’m Sheriff Valenti wanting to know if you’re an alien. I just wanted to know why a guy who can quote Ulysses fails every class when you just demonstrated you could succeed.” She rose from the bed only to begin pacing back and forth while trying to figure out ‘why was this guy throwing his life away? Why didn’t he try to succeed like Max and Isabel did?’

The alien got up from the chair and looked her in the eye. “Because I don’t trust you. I don’t get close to people I don’t trust. You’re human and you’re the enemy.”

Maria threw up her hands in frustration, “I am not the freaking enemy! I could have turned your ass in back there but I didn’t. You should learn to trust others outside your circle of two. Or you are going to be stuck on this forsaken planet alone and bitter.”

He shook his head and played with one of his silver rings, “No, they’ll come back for us. We will find a way home.”

“Michael, it’s been 50 years! You think they’d come back for you now. They left you. Get over it and move on with life.”

He looked up at her with actual hurt in his eyes, “"Ouch, really hit me where it hurts why don't you?" Walking back over to the chair he grabbed his coat since he knew there was no way he was staying here. He just knew that he’d find the answers and the way home. He didn’t need anyone except for his real family who was out there somewhere waiting for him.

Maria felt bad for what she just said to him and she didn’t really mean to hurt him. She just wanted to get to know him, the real him. Seeing that he was leaving she quickly grabbed his arm before he could walked out the door. “Michael, wait I’m sorry. I know what it’s like to wait for someone to come back for you. I’ve been waiting every since the day my father left me, and I shouldn’t have said that. You have every right to dream and I was just trying to show you that you’re not alone.”

Michael stared at the girl in front him her eyes glazed with compassion. He closed the door and threw his jacket back down on the chair. “You want to know what I’m afraid of,” he barely said above a whisper.

She nodded as she grabbed hold of his right hand and gently put hers in it.

“I’m afraid of being alone. I’m afraid that Max and Isabel will one day forget about me, and that I’d be left alone while they have their families and other friends that have a better social standing then I do. I’m afraid that I don’t have a purpose for being here and that I was abandoned because I wasn’t wanted like everyone says. That’s what I’m afraid of.”

By the time he had finished she had tears streaming down her face. She couldn’t believe that he felt that way. It made her feel awful for the things she said. “Michael, Max and Isabel would never leave you. I can see that they love you besides you’re a hard person to forget and no would including me.”

She did something he didn’t expect in a million years. The gorgeous blonde leaned over and kissed him. At first it was a soft chaste kiss on the lips until he wrapped his arms around her and deepened the kiss. It was his first kiss and it lasted for what seemed like forever. He never wanted it to end but it had too. She couldn’t be involved with him and he couldn’t’ be involved with her. He was just to dangerous, so he did the only thing he could do and that was break the kiss before it would lead to a road he wasn’t yet ready to travel down.

“Wow,” she commented with a smile but the look on Michael’s face made her frown.

“Nothing can happen between us,” He explained solemnly.

“ But Michael something did. I know it…there’s something between us.” She looked up at him with expectant eyes.

“ We shared a kiss that’s all. Now it’s getting late and we both need to rest.” He wasn’t going to get into a long discussion on why there could never be anything between them. Looking over at the bed he said, “I don’t suppose we could share.”

“Not if you were the last alien on Earth,” she commented with a huff before walking over to the bed trying her best not to cry. This wasn’t over and she wasn’t about to give up.
