There is a lot of royalty in Max. He is used to getting what he wants. The way he "forces" Liz to call him Max, for instance. Which is only natural when you've been raised that way. But Liz might not be the right person to exert that "force" on. Right now she's being held back by her politeness towards the Royal Family, but that might just change the more they get to know each other.

It will be a long time before Liz will be comfortable with the Prince.......no matter what he tries.
The causes that the Royal family support are admirable.
I could see Liz fitting into one of those roles despite her lack of schooling.

Jo Yes Max is use to getting what he wants. But there is a line he will not cross. One thing that a woman were to tell him no to that he would not force. Very soon Liz will stand up to Max about what he wants.

[bCarolyny[/b] Yes that was a very interesting walk. Liz would fit in nicely helping with the Royal Family's causes. Later we will see just how smart Liz really is dispite not having finished her education.





Part 7

Tessa watched from the shadows as Max walked with Liz. She couldn't believe that he would rather spend time with that human street rat rather then a pure blood antarian like her. But if she had any say about it he would end up with her and that street rat would end up a slave like she belonged.

"What are you up to Tess?"
"Nothing Isabel"
"Yeah right. You are mad as hell that my brother would rather spend his time with that human girl then with you."
"She is nothing but a street rat. She needs to be thrown back into the gutter she was found in."
"You hate her because she is human?"
"Humans should never have been freed! They are beneath us."
"Tessa, the fact is they have been freed and given all rights of every citizen of Antar."
"They will never be our equals."
"Like it or not. You will not disrespect my mother's guests."

Tessa stormed off.

"She going to be trouble?"

Isabel turned to see her cousin Michael standing there.

"Yeah. She is really pissed that Max is spend any time with that human girl."
"She's not my type. But she is kind of cute."
"I think that she might be the one for my brother. But she needs to open up herself to the possibility of love."
"She isn't going to make it easy."
"She is still very scared there is something in her past that is holding her back."
"Hope Maxwell can get through that wall around her heart."
"Yeah. We need her to help bring all of us together. Tessa will only destroy all the work that has been done."

Liz sat down on the bed next to her sister who was reading a book.

"Enjoy your time with the Prince?"
"I guess."
"What is going on Liz?"
"I think he wants to make me his mate."
"You're scared!"
"I can't be with him!"
"Why? Liz, you need to do what Grandma Claudia told you to do. Follow your heart. You have feelings for the Prince. Every time we would see him in the city I could tell."
"No one is going to accept us together. Humans will see me as a traitor. Antarians will see Max as a traitor. Neither of us wins."
"You win. You will be with who you were born to be with."
"How do you know that I am meant to be with the Prince?"
"I don't. But if he is showing an interest in you then you need to give him a chance."

Liz looked at her sister wondering when she had gotten so smart.

King Philip sat in his office going over some reports. He was becoming more concerned over the treatment of humans in the region under Lord Kivar's leadership. Kivar had never hid his dislike of humans. Kivar would need to be dealt with before long. But right now he had to come up with a damn good reason not to agree to go through with the having his son become engaged to Lady Tessa Harding. Her father Lord Edward Harding was really pushing for the union. But Philip knew that there was something off about the girl. He felt that the girl only wanted Max for the power that she would get by being married to the future king. Then there was the matter of the human girls that his wife had brought into the palace. He had done research on the sisters. He knew that a union between the older of the two and his son would go a long way to heal the relationship between humans and antarians.

Good for Isbell.........I'm very proud of her response to Tessa.
It's good that they can see she only wants the power and will certainly cause trouble if things don't go her way.
The King is wise to see that Liz is the one to bring everyone together. He can see the big picture.

Carolyn Yes that was good Isabel telling Tessa off! King Philip understands that he needs to improve the relationship with his human citizens.



Part 8

Liz followed the guard through the palace to a small private dinning room where Max was waiting for her. He smiled warmly at her and the guard stepped back out into the hall.

"Thank you for coming." Said Max
"I said I would."
"Yes but I know that you aren't happy about coming."
"I just don't see the point. We can never be together."
"Liz, I wish that you could see just how special you really are. That you are meant for great things."
"How can you know that?"
"I just do. I wish that you would trust me."
"I don't know you."
"Spend time with me, talk with me and you will."
"That isn't going to happen. Your mother promised me that once my sister was well that we could leave."
"Where will you go? That shack you were living in wasn't safe. Besides someone else more then likely has moved in with you being gone this long."
"We will find somewhere to go. Maybe we will leave the city and get jobs on a farm or something."
"You know about working on a farm?"
"No."
"Then you won't get a job."
"How do you know that?"
"Well most of the farm owners want experienced help. You don't have the skills they look for."

Liz knew that he had a point. But she still knew that it wouldn't be a good idea to stay here. She was already in danger of falling for the very charming prince.

"Liz are you OK?"
"Uh yeah."
"You don't lie very well."
"I am not lying."
"Yes you are."
"Look you're highness, my life is not any of your business."
"That might be true. But I want to get to know you. I want to be part of your life."
"Some times even a prince can't get everything they want. Thank you for dinner. Good night."

Liz left leaving Max alone.

"If I were you I would have that ungrateful street rat slut thrown in prison for disrespect." Came a high pitched voice.

Max wince turned around and faced Tessa.

"Lady Tessa, what are you doing here in my private dinning room? You weren't invited." Said Max
"Prince Maxwell, you should just face the fact that you and I are going to end up together."
"No we will not. I get to choose who I marry and I will never marry you!"

Max pushed passed her and headed down the hall. He wished that pest would leave and go back to wherever she had come from. He could not understand why she couldn't get through her thick head that he didn't want anything to do with her.

Max is having a hard time getting away from the pest Tessa...........and Liz is still feeling she is unfit to be with him.
Hope the Prince will be able to get past that with Liz.

Great Chapter!!!! Please please please please please please please please please please come back and post more really really really really soon? Can't wait to read what will happen next for Max and Liz. Wow Liz is really head strong about her and Max. Poor Max he has to get through to Liz. Maybe Max will be able to get through to Liz soon. Or maybe someone else will.

Part 9

Liz stared out at the night sky. After leaving the prince she returned to her room. Serena tried to get her to tell what happened but Liz just ignored her sister and went out on the balcony. She just needed to think. If Serena hadn't been so sick she never would have let the queen talk her into coming here. Now she was falling in love with someone that she knew she could never be with. The truth was she knew a lot more about the prince then she let on. She knew that he was kind and very warm to most people.

"Liz what is going on with you? You just seem so not like yourself." Said Serena coming out.
"You should be in bed. You aren't fully recover yet."
"I'm fine. The doctor came by while you were at dinner. I am in the clear."
"Then we will leave tomorrow."
"Liz, I love you. But I am not going to go."
"We don't belong here!"
"Liz, if we go back to the way we were living we will die! I am not going to leave just because you are scared!"
"I am not scared!"
"That is a lie and you know it! Damn it Liz why are you so scared to fall in love?"
"Why should I let myself be set up for heart break?
"Things are changing."
"Things maybe getting better for humans. But the antarians will still never accept a human as their queen."
"Don't talk like that."
"It's the truth. You have to face the facts. We will never be their equals."

Serena couldn't understand where all this anger that Liz had was coming from. She had never seen her sister like this before.

Max sat in his room trying to figure out how he was going to get through to Liz that they can be together. He was pulled from his thoughts by a knock on his door.

"Come in."

Max looked over to see his mother come in.

"How did dinner go?"
"OK."
"What's wrong Max?"
"I love her. But she is just so stubborn. She truly believes that no one will accept her with me."
"Max, you do understand that humans have not been treated very well."
"I know that mom."
"Give her time."
"I am scared that it's running out. Kara cleared her sister. Liz said she was going to leave once her sister was well."
"I will speak with them in the morning. I did promise Elizabeth that if she choose to leave she would not be stopped. But that does not mean I wouldn't have her brought back by force."
"What do you mean?"
"When her parents went to work at the Inn, they put in their contract that if anything were to happen to them that my family would become the legal guardians of the two girls. My sister has had people looking for them since their parents died."
"So Aunt Stacey has custody of them?"
"No when I told her I found them she signed the papers handing custody of them to me."
"Liz is nearly eighteen."
"Yes but by law she is required to either be in school, married or in the care of her legal guardian until she is twenty one."
"She doesn't know any of this does she?"
"No. I get the feeling that Elizabeth will not be happy with this news."
"She won't be. But this also means that you can pick who she marries."
"Yes I can. Max, you have feelings for her don't you?"
"I love her."

Diane looked at Max and knew it was true.

Part 10

Liz woke early and started to pack the few things she had. She had made her mind up. Even if her sister was choosing to stay here she couldn't. If she did then she would be in danger of opening her heart to someone that she could never be with.

"You really are going to leave and go back to the streets aren't you?" Asked Serena
"Yeah. Rena, I wish that you would come with me."
"I can't go back to that life. Liz, I love you but we were barely staying alive. Here we will have a safe place to stay, food every day."
"But this is not our home Rena. It will never be our home."
"I will never understand you Liz! You would rather not eat then deal with the fact that you have feelings for the prince."
"I have no idea what you are talking about."
"I know you better then anyone. Liz, you can't tell a lie to save your life."
"Yeah well there is no way I am staying here."

Liz grabbed her bag and opened the door only to find the Queen's assistant about to knock.

"I need both of you to come with me. Her Royal Highness needs to speak with both of you."

Liz dropped her bag looked at her sister. Serena just gave her a smile. Then both of them followed the older woman to the Queen's study. They went in to find the Queen waiting with some papers in front of her.

"Thank you Jada. Girls please sit down." Said the Queen

Liz and Serena sat down across from Diane.

"Girls there is something that I don't think either of you know. The law states that you both need to have a legal guardian until you turn twenty one." Said Diane
"What?" Asked Liz
"Elizabeth, I understand that news upsets you." Said Diane
"So what is going to happen to my sister and me?" Asked Liz
"Well when your parents went to work at the Inn, they had it put in their contract that until you both come of age you would be cared for. My sister was given custody. But after the fire you two ran off. She has been looking for you ever since."
"So we will go live with her?" Asked Serena
"No, once I learned who you two were, which took some work seeing as Elizabeth was not to forthcoming with information. She signed over custody of the two of you to me."
"No! I don't want to stay here! I don't need anyone looking after me. I can take care of myself." Said Liz

Liz stood up and ran from the study. Diane watched the young woman go. She knew that she wouldn't be happy about the news.

"I should stop her." Said Diane
"You're Highness, Liz will be OK. I am guessing that the guards will not let her leave the palace grounds." Said Serena
"No they won't. I am surprised you didn't go with her."
"I had already made my choice. I was going to ask to be aloud to stay. I would work if I had to in order to stay."
"Serena, there would be no need for that. I do want you to get an education."
"I would like that."

Liz found her way out to the garden. She couldn't believe this! She was trapped here.

"You don't belong here street rat!"

Liz turned to see a girl around her age with ice cold blue eyes and blond hair. By the way she dressed Liz knew that this had to be Lady Tessa Harding that she had heard about. She also knew that the Lady had her eye set on the prince.

"I am sorry my Lady, but Queen Diane wants me here. I would rather not be here. But I can not go against the Queen's wishes."
"Fine but stay away from the prince. He is mine."

Liz looked into the girl's eyes and felt a chill run down her spine. There was something off about this girl. But Liz was smart enough to know not to make her mad.

"I will not go out of my way to spend time with the prince. But if he wants to be around me then I will not refuse."

Tessa stared at the young human woman. She was going to have to do something about her.

"Just stay away from the prince."

Liz watched as Tessa walked off. She just knew she was up to something.

Liz is stubborn.........but is having a difficult time accepting the possibility of being with the Prince.
She is so afraid that the people will never accept her.
Then Tessa appears with a warning of her own.
This not easy for Liz!
