Prologue:

Ten Years Previously

The twenty strong unit glanced around the “room”. It was more a prison cell that held them captive, with no way out.

Only a week before, their brother Jack had been taken away, and it seemed unlikely that he was still alive and within the walls of Manticore. He was probably in pieces being researched, so that the scientists that were whipping the transgenics could see what had caused the seizures.

Suddenly one of the young girls began to shudder violently. When the eldest looking boy tried to calm her, she shook harder. This alerted the guards, who promptly came in to take the young child away. However, they were attacked viciously by the rest of the children within the room and were knocked unconscious.

The escape had begun…

<center>***</center>

They were out. Admittedly, some stayed behind, somewhere stopped in their fight to freedom. Twelve met at the allotted safe point; so eight had failed in their escape. Not far from the small unit, unnoticed even with their superior sight, was the body of one such victim.

The young girl whom had had the fit that triggered the escape stood, leaning upon the boy. She spoke up.

“We did everyone. Not all of us got out, but no more designations. No more Pys-Ops. We had best get moving everyone. Wouldn’t want to be caught moments after leaving would we? But, what do you think Zack?”

The young boy who was holding her up nodded to acknowledge he had been spoken to. “Divide and scatter. Who knows? Maybe they catch a few of us, but some of us will get away all right. Maybe one day, there will be a place for us to meet again.”

Nodding, the unit of twelve ran, blurring away from the only place they could recognise as home. Whatever that meant.

<center>***</center>

Four transgenic that had been part of Max and Zack’s unit also escaped that night, but in the confusion, were split from the rest. The stood, cold and frightened; no one around to order them or guide them on the path.

“Zack said to split. I think we should do that.” The young blond girl tried to reason. She always admired Zack, the CO of the unit, and tried her hardest to follow his orders.

“No. It’s too dangerous right now. We stick together.” The elder of two boys spoke.

“Then let’s run. We stay here; we’re going to end up like Eva.”

With the little debate over, the four fled. And they dashed southward, staying away from the main roads, so they could not be found. Until they ended up on route 285. Then, they split; each being found by a loving couple.

And there they stayed, faking memories for nine years, slowly drifting apart…

A/N: Well thank you all for the feedback! This is UC although, some CC is expected to happen as well :-P Just who with who? (A)

Chapter One

2020

Liz ached all over. She had walked and sobbed tearlessly the whole way from the Pod Chamber. The truth hurt, but at least it was out there. Pushing the door to the CrashDown open, the chimes played their tacky tune, but Liz welcomed the normal, ordinary sound, glad that bit of structure in her life still remained.

Sighing, she watched the usual throng of tourists order the uniquely named food, the quiet hum of chatter, discussing where the aliens where among them. At least she was getting away for the summer. Maybe the others would come. The others like her that was.

And there they were. Laughing and joking with each other, so comfortable, they could have all been siblings. However, the most certainly weren’t. Great friends, who probably had four sets of parents each because of their closeness. That thought made Liz chuckle slightly. The Sheriff Jim Valenti as her father? That truly was funny.

Opening the door to the kitchen, she saw her father working the grill, looking like he was about to take a break. Waiting for a few moments, she kissed him on the cheek, and led him to his office, where she made him a cup of black coffee, before sitting him on his chair, sitting upon his lap and clasping her hands around his neck. Jeff laughed.

“So, Lizzie, what can I help you with?”

“Well, Daddy, I was wondering… Could I skip my shift tonight, and sleepover at Ria’s house? Alex and Kyle would be there too, but you know that we’re too close for any of that. They’re my brothers.”

Jeff pondered this momentarily, making his daughter believe he was going to make her work the shift and leave afterward; after all the fun had begun. Liz pouted and the office door opened, and Nancy Parker entered. She already knew about the night, and had given her permission, but Jeff would be angry if Liz had gone on her mother’s word alone.

“Come on Jeff. This way we can go see that movie without worrying about Liz.”

That had done it for the father. He nodded happily and Liz hugged him harder then before, kissing him on the cheek.

“Thanks Daddy!”

<center>***</center>

Isabel frowned. It was not something she usually did, as a smile attracts more attention from a male, but today, like most days of recent times, it was the one she favoured more. Looking toward Tess, Michael and her brother, she felt a certain amount of sadness envelope her for the petite brunette that was Liz.

But with the newest revelation, they needed to stick together. If their enemies had really been alerted, then they could be attacked at any time. And that old saying popped into her head. “United we stand, apart we fall.”

Isabel knew her parents wouldn’t mind if Tess and Michael came to watch movies that night. After all, they were going out anyway, so it wasn’t as if they would be in anyone’s way.

“Tess, Michael, wanna come watch movies and hang tonight? My parents are out, and I figure we could use the talk.”

Michael, who had no parents, raised a lone eyebrow but nodded none-the-less. Tess nodded and gave a small smile, knowing that she probably wasn’t high on the favourite person’s list, even though it was not her fault.

“That’s settled then. Be at the house by sundown, ‘kay?”

<center>***</center>

The Sun was on the horizon, setting the day, and welcoming the night and the moon to take over guidance of weary travellers here, whilst the Sun took over where the moon had just watched over. The only thing that happened day in and day out. The only thing that had continued like clock-work; after the Pulse.

Liz hopped out of her car, and slung her back over her back. She bounced out from her car toward the door of the home, back to her friends.

Timidly, she knocked on the door. It burst open, Alex and Maria; their usual quirky selves pulled her into the house, laughing as if they were hyper. Liz spotted an empty orangeade bottle and knew that they probably were.

“Kyle not here yet? Or is he not coming?” Liz asked after her ex. Sure, it sounded strange, but that was how it went. All four had been so close that it had been bound to happen. So two of them mistook friendship for something more. Not like anything happened.

Maria burst into a fit of giggles, and Alex being Alex, erupted into laughter behind her. Liz soon found out why. Kyle came bounding down the stairs in his boxers and a tee-shirt. Liz smiled at him. She knew the revelations about the aliens had been hard, but they’d been through worse.

“I’ll just go and get changed then. Kyle, for the love of Mary, don’t let them drink any more sugar or caffeine. Or eat it. At least until we’re at their level, ‘k?”

Kyle gave a light chuckle and nodded at Liz. He was the eldest amongst them, with Maria being the youngest. Alex and Liz, the middle-children in their delusional “family”, Liz slightly elder than Alex, by about a half year.

Kyle was deep into his personal musings when Liz came back down to the chortling harpies. Liz sat down next to him, pulled the cover over them and smiled at him. She placed her head on his shoulder and sighed. She knew Kyle understood why they had not included him in the aliens. It was like… Like nothing before, but he understood.

“So what’s the first movie then?” Kyle and Alex, whom had finally calmed down asked at the same time. Liz and Maria began to laugh again, and the boys joined in. This was the way Amy found them when she went to tell them that she was leaving. But she didn’t have the hurt to break them up. Instead she closed the door loud enough for them to hear.

<center>***</center>

They had been watching a film on one of the many movie channels that they had. Like most people in Roswell, they had kept their money in a safe, so that when the Pulse wiped out everyone’s bank balances, they had kept all of their money and luxury.

Whilst watching the movie, Die Hard 4, something or someone cut through the broadcast.

“Do not attempt to adjust your set. This is a streaming freedom video bulletin. The cable hack will last exactly 60 seconds. It cannot be traced, it cannot be stopped and it is the only free voice left in America. Usually, these hacks are kept within Seattle, but today, I must reach out to others. Those of you, who recognise “X-5” and this symbol” A Manticore lion flashes onto the screen, “Are all in danger. Zack, Max, Krit and Syl have been captured and your safety has now been compromised. Lay low. This has been a streaming freedom video bulletin. Peace. Out.”

Three heads suddenly turned to view the other.

“What do we do?”

“We go to Seattle. We find him. We get his information on the capture. Zack’s not the only one who’s been watching everyone, is he?”

A/N: So are you positive that it’s Liz and the others whom are the transgenics? The last section mentioned no names, and therefore, could still go either way. Isabel did hold a movie, night, it was briefly mentioned. So who is it?

And can Anna-Liisa have a huge thanks for the banner?

Chapter Two

It rang. Louder and louder. Until finally, a sleepy arm moved out from where it had been laying, resting, to smash into pieces. The joys of being awoken during the summer; there are none.

The hand went on to rub its owners eyes, before they yawned, wishing they were back in the land of dreams. But to no success. Slowly, the rose from where they had been lying, stretching out the creeks in their back and rising to their feet.

Liz blinked a few times. The night had been great fun. But now she had to do her job. As she had been Zack’s second-in-command, she had become the leader, despite not being the eldest. Kyle never complained, he always went on about he could never handle the responsibility anyway.

Liz glanced around at her family. They slept soundly. Her thoughts wondered to that Eyes Only hack. She knew that she was no longer heading to Florida to spend her holidays, but to Seattle, to free the siblings that had been captured.

Walking into the kitchen, still lost in her thoughts, Liz absent-mindedly put the kettle on to boil, before gathering the rest of the ingredients for coffee together. This was how Kyle found her when he awoke to the aromatic smell of coffee made by Elizabeth Parker.

Liz sipped hers gently, before passing Kyle his. Liz looked into the cup for a moment, wishing answers would jump out from within the black depths, telling her a plan, a way, to free the Manticore soldiers. To her dismay, it helped at all not.

“Were you angry?”

Kyle frowned, confused by his sister’s question. “Angry about what?”

“That we didn’t tell you about the aliens.”

Kyle shook his head, and they spoke no more. Just each others company was enough to explain their actions.

<center>***</center>

Isabel’s eyelids fluttered open, but after detecting the glaring light, they slid shut once more. This cycle happened a few more times, before they were forced open, and Isabel found herself on auto-pilot.

Getting up, she showered, dressed and applied make-up, just enough to go and see Alex. But when she phoned his house, they told her that he wasn’t there, but at Maria’s. Isabel thanked whoever it was at the other end, and hung up.

Pulling on her shoes, Isabel slipped the Jeep’s keys out of the sleeping Max’s trouser pocket. Thankfully, he was wearing only his boxers, otherwise, it could have been interesting to get out.

Hopping in, Isabel raised her hand as she heard a rustling noise. She lowered it slowly, as it was only Tess stepping out of the front door. Izzy watched as it was gently closed and the passenger door to the Jeep was opened.

“Can I join you?” Was the timid question asked.

Isabel pondered it for a moment. She had no reason not to say yes. Isabel nodded slowly, before smiling at the younger girl.

“’Course.”

<center>***</center>

Meanwhile, there was others who had been up and training for hours. Those being placed through reindoctrination; those pretending to be the perfect soldier, so that reindoctrination was not their fate.

Max had been one of those fakers. Zack, Krit and Syl had all followed her lead. So far, they we playing perfect little puppet. No reason to give Renfro a reason to put them through hell.

Max fought against someone, her heart just not in it. She fell to the mat, and the X5 male made some leery comment. Max kicked out his legs, punched him in the face and snapped an arm.

Someone watched from the shadows. Finally, it was Renfro walked out, and told Max to follow her.

The others whom had been captured with her were in the room when she entered. She acknowledged them the best that Manticore soldiers would let her. She lined up by their side and faced forward.

Renfro smiled. They were about to get a shock of a life-time.

<center>***</center>

The Jeep pulled up outside the DeLuca residence. Both blondes hopped out, and bounced toward the door. Pressing the doorbell, it rang quietly, and watched as the door was drawn back by Liz.

Tess immediately felt terrible. The young girl had lost her boyfriend. “If this is a bad time, then we can come back.”

Liz shook her head, and gave one of her sunny smiles. “Come in. There’s something we needed to ask of the both of you anyway.”

<center>***</center>

I know it was short, but it was just a little something. I was wondering, would any of you mind doing me a banner for this fic? I’ve asked a few times, but no one’s interested.

Chapter 3

Max looked between her siblings. No way were these four people standing in front of them. Not alive. She had witnessed all of their deaths, been the killer to one of them. So how where they alive?

Renfro gave a casual smirk, before shattering the silence. “The eight of you will become a unit once more, along with the already captured X5-734. When we recapture the other eight we lost that night, as well as the other escapee the night after, and you shall be together once more.”

Renfro stopped in her little speech, to watch for any reaction. Knowing they were not truly reindoctrinated, meant she thought some emotion, something would be shown. But nothing was given away.

“X5-734 will be your second-in-command, and X5-494 will be you Commanding Officer.” At this the door opened, and 494 and 734 entered the room. “Your training will begin now.”

The marched out of the room after 494 and Renfro silently smiled after them. ’Unit Alpha. The greatest Manticore has seen, and it was my doing. 494, 734, 599, 452, 471, 701, 493, 656, 417 and 766. I think I will go down in Manticore history for the best Unit created.’

<center>***</center>

Liz looked at Isabel and Tess. The looked shocked, who wouldn’t after being told four of your friends were genetically engineered killing machines that escaped from a secure compound with twelve others like them. And that there were even more still held within the said compound, as well as others in different compounds. That beat being aliens.

Kyle had explained how they were going to go to Seattle to bust them all out again. Their siblings that was. But X5’s alone wouldn’t be enough. They would need to get the others who were still outside in and the power to scare shitless the new Director and be unseen.

Promptly, Tess agreed, knowing that it was the only way to regain Liz’s trust, even though she had never really gained it or deserved it. It might not have been her fault, the destiny message, but wanting Max certainly was. It surprised Isabel, but she certainly understood. Wasn’t like anyone was holding her back; it was the summer holidays.

Isabel said she’d have to get her parents to agree, but she said that she’d tell them it was a road trip, a holiday before they were all to old to be able to mess around like the were currently. After a few moments on the phone, it was agreed upon. They would leave at Sundown.

<center>***</center>

Michael and Max woke up, only to find Tess and Isabel gone, and the Jeep’s keys missing. Max sighed. So they girls had snuck out. Right after they find out they were in mortal danger, they’ve gone off out. Clever.

Michael said he had to go check out Maria, make sure she was okay and ask whether they were still good, but decided to wait till Isabel and Tess were back, so Max wasn’t alone.

What he didn’t know, was that by then, it would be too late.

<center>***</center>

The phone rang quietly. It vibrated across the table before its owner picked it up. She spoke into the mouth piece in a low voice.

“You and Kavi okay? We’re under high duress.” The raspy voice of Jondy spoke through the wires of the phone. She and Zane had met up, and were now hiding together from the Manticore alumni that were trying to capture them.

“Glad to hear that. You nearly her-. Never mind.” The loud banging on the door half-way through her sentence was answer enough for Jondy. She snuck a peak before opening it up wide and embracing her brother and sister in a hug.

Zane bounded down the stairs at the noise and smiled at Kavi and Vada. At least four of the twelve escapees were safe for now. Four were captured, and four why KIA. That certainly sucked.

The phone that had never left Jondy’s hand rang again. She looked at Zane again. Nobody had that number except from those in front of her. She glanced at the phone, contemplating not answering it, but the third ring, she picked up.

“Hello?”

“Hiya Jondy, what’s the agitation for?”

Jondy nearly dropped the phone in surprise. “Oh My Blue Lady. Alex? Is it really you?”

<center>***</center>

Alex chuckled as he heard his sister’s reaction. “Yeah Jondy, it’s me. Liz, Maria and Kyle are with me too.”

Her garbled sigh of shock was enough to let Alex know what they thought had happened to them. That they hadn’t made it through the escape, though it wasn’t really much of a shock for him. It’s why not even Zack knew about them.

“Look, I’m sure you’ve heard about Max, Zack, Krit and Syl. We also have reason to believe that Manticore might have cooked something up. We’re heading to Seattle, we have the location for the notorious Eyes Only, and we think he might know what’s going on. Meet us at a building called Fogle Towers at 1100 hours tomorrow in the car park.”

Once more, he heard his sister’s affirmative answer.

’Good. We have eight, maybe nine X5’s and two alien hybrids. Manticore will never know what’s hit them…’

A/N: No, you aren’t seeing things, it’s an update. I’m alive. Sorry for the month-age delay, things have been a bit hard, people to see, homework to complete, parents to nag :P.

Thanks so much for all of your replies, I really love reading them

This is fairly short, but I thought anyone still reading would prefer a new part rather than another wait :)

Chapter 4

Logan didn’t like this feeling currently. Like he was being followed. Maybe he was being paranoid, maybe it was deliria catching him up, but whatever it was, Logan Cale did not like it.

Checking behind his left shoulder one last time, he shrugged the feeling off, stood up straighter, and continued to his precious “Bessie”. He had a S1W rebel, Asha, to meet up with, and being late wouldn’t look good.

But Cale just couldn’t help himself, and then he knew wasn’t imagining that acrid smell of cigarette smoke, mixed with something slightly more illegal. And he knew none of the up-town socialites that lived in his apartment block smoked, let alone smoked weed.

He turned 180 degrees, only to find no culprit. But as he turned back to walk again towards his car, he saw a young man leaning upon it, cigarette in hand and hoodie upon his chest.

“Going somewhere, Eyes?”

Logan Cale then knew, that deliria was definitely catching him up.

“Seth?”

<center>***</center>

Jondy stepped out of the cramped car, to breathe her first breath of fine, smoke-smelling, disease-ridden post-pulse Seattle air. Kinda reminded her of Wyoming, and the smell of the trainers cigars.

It always made her want to vomit.

Her shoes clicked against the concrete flooring that made up the Fogle Tower car park. It was coming up to 11, and Jondy began wondering what her little brothers and sisters had been up too, and what they looked like. She was excited.

A far more subdued Kavi and Vada stepped out of the vehicle and smiled to one another. Jondy was only a year or two older than them, but they were only 17. Zane killed the engine and opened his door.

As the eldest of the four, he felt highly responsible for them all, but, at the same time, he knew that they had to be there own person. But it was when he heard the thud of a defensive-less human being slammed against a wall, that he took of to investigate, rather than letting any of the others.

He raced to the sound to see an older man, maybe in his mid-thirties, slumped on the floor and a restless teen standing above him, yelling his head off.

“Eyes, you better hope that my family come back to me safe, or Manticore will be getting a call, telling them where there precious Eyes Only is!”

The teen spat of the slumped man, and the teen began to walk away. When for the second time that day, his name was called out in confusion and wonder.

“Seth?”

The teen stopped, turned and smiled. “It’s me baby brother.”

<center>***</center>

The six Roswellians clambered out of there retrospective cars, when they heard Logan and Seth’s “disagreement” as it were. Kyle smiled. So it would nine transgenics out for blood. Always a nice number, 09.

“We late?” Liz asked, smiling. Tess couldn’t believe how chirpy she was. So much for losing her soulmate. She looked as if Max was no-one but the shit on the bottom of her shoe, that someone had cleaned away for her. Tess had to agree with her, he was.

The five older transgenics turned to see the teens standing around two cars, smirking, with two blondes, whom they did not recognise. However, if they were hanging with there sibs, then they must have been cool.

Jondy and Maria squeeled and hugged each other, jumping up and down. Liz rolled her eyes and punched Seth on the arm. Kyle leant on Kavi’s arm whilst Alex leant on Zane. Vada latched onto Liz’s arm and began giggling.

For now, things were going to be a o-kay.

A/N:

The next chapter could be a little while longer, I'm afraid. I'm slightly tangled up in homework and coursework, but if it isn't here by December 2nd, which I doubt, I'll dedicate the day to writing :)

I'm really sorry guys, I'll make it longer to make up for it :)
