Author's Note: I’ve gone through and re-read everything, and re-edited it. Therefore, it should kick ass now.

Roswell, New Mexico

Date (dãt), n., v., dat ed, dating. -n. 1. time when something happens. 2. statement of time: There is a date on every piece of U.S. money. 3. period of time. 4. U.S. informal. appointment for a certain time. 5. Informal. person of the opposite sex with whom an appointment is made. 6. out of date, old-fashioned; not in the present use. 7. to date, till now; yet. 8. up to date, a. to the present time. b. modern; according to the latest style or idea. -v. 1. mark with a date; put a date on. 2. find out the date of; give a date to. 3. be dated; have a date on it. 4. belong to a certain period of time; hate its origin: That house dates from the 18th century. 5. Informal. make a social appointment with (a person of the opposite sex).

People used to say if it walked like a duck, smelled like a duck, and looked like a duck... then it was a duck. So, if it looks like a date, sounds like a date, and you want it to be a date... then that made it a date. Didn't it?

Max Evans groaned, and fell back on his bed. He was destined to a life of pure misery and torture all because of an angel. He desired her at every moment, ached to hold her at every sight of her, and most of all, he wanted to kiss her in front of everyone in Roswell. Unfortunately, Max Evans and Elizabeth, Liz, Parker were polar opposites.

Liz was the captain of her cheer squad, one of the most popular girls at school. She was in the A-crowd, probably the leader of all the rich bitches at West Roswell High. Her father owned a restaurant, and lived on the "rich" side of the town; a old Victorian house to be exact.

Max on the other hand played few sports, too shy to join and not feeling the need to be rejected. He was from the "poor" side of Roswell, immediately placing him in the C-crowd, but because of his "good looks" he was bumped into the B-crowd. Max, didn't care much about the girl's at his school, only letting his eyes stray to watch Liz Parker. Max lived more towards the edge of town. A group of houses were placed along the far edges of the quarry, and Max and his family had lived there ever since he could remember.

It was his home; a place where all of his memories were kept, and Max never minded being in the B-crowd because of it. A school jacket wasn't his lifetime goal. The teams Roswell offered were run by coaches who only cared about the kids whose parents had donated to the sports team. Max worked out at home, and ran through the neighborhood early in the morning. His life was... simple, and he liked it that way.

Max's thoughts were put on hold when his door was thrown open and then shut. Max quickly closed the dictionary, but knew it had caught his sister's eye. Isabel Evans was the one thing in Max's life that was anything but simple. She had nothing in common with her brother besides the fact that they both were blood related. Isabel had long blonde hair, with dark brown eyes. Max had dark hair, nearly black, with amber eyes. Isabel was popular in school, among the other "poor kids". Max was Isabel's brother. Isabel liked being the center of attention, Max would rather hide behind the tree. Isabel had breasts, Max didn't. Max had... Okay, so the point was obvious; Max and Isabel were nothing alike.

Isabel reached around her brother, and grabbed the dictionary. She raised an eyebrow, and then sighed in frustration, throwing herself into Max's desk chair. She shot him a glare, still not speaking. Max cleared his throat. "There's this thing; it's called a door. When it's closed it usually means the occupant is busy."

"There's this thing called a bed; it's for two people to use. You on the other hand never seem to use it for it's rightful meaning, so why should I bother knocking?" Ouch. Low blow. That was definitely below the belt.

"So I guess you're still mad?" Max asked.

"Mad? No Max, of course I'm not mad... because of you we're only losing our HOME!" Isabel shouted.

"That's not fair," Max replied. "They were planning on tearing this community down for awhile now. If you want to blame somebody, try blaming the people who are petitioning for a mall." Max got off the bed and grabbed a set of weights, doing bicep curls.

"They were planning on tearing this community down, but because so many people lived here they were holding off."

"For how long? A year? Two? We'd still have to move either way."

"If you had left Liz Parker alone this-"

"I asked Liz on a date, and she said yes. How that effects you or anyone else is still something I haven't figured out."

"You know Sean Pierce is in LOVE with Liz Parker! He's been after her for years, and she's always turned him down. He claimed her, Max. Every other guy noticed that Liz was his, but you! Then you had to go and mess with his girl-"

"Liz is not Sean's girl."

"Yes, Max, she is. He's rich, she's rich. He's snobby, she's snobby. That's how it goes Max. They go together, we go together. We don't mix, okay? Daniel Pierce, has been wanting to tear us down for years... but he's held off because there weren't many Roswell people active in it. If Sean came running home to dear Daddy, telling him this project is a great idea, Pierce is definitely going to get the ball rolling! It doesn't help that he hates Dad, either," Isabel shook her head, tears brimming her eyes. "I didn't want to have to leave home until after my Senior year... Max, we're only Juniors. Alex, Kyle, and Michael - they're a part of our family, Max. In a week we'll be gone and who knows where we'll all end up."

Max put his weights down and sat across from his sister. He lifted her chin and wiped away a tear. "We'll... I'll figure something out. It will all be okay."

Isabel nodded and let her brother hug her. He rubbed her back and then let her pull away. "Promise we'll find a way to not have to leave Roswell."

"I promise," Max smiled. "Come on, Mom left meatloaf in the oven for us. If it burns, she'll probably kill us all."

"Like the food already isn't going to kill us? I just say we forget the meatloaf and call for Chinese," Isabel stated, heading for the door. Max pulled her back and pushed her on the bed before running for the door. "Nope! I'm calling for pizza... wuss!"

"I'm no wuss, Max! Get your ass back here!"

<center>***</center>

"Met a girl, thought she was grand. Fell in love, found out first hand...went well for a week or two then it all came un-glued..." His jaw tightened and he felt his hands immediately form into fists. In the cell next to Nicholas Dunn-Kelly was Hunter Montgomery; an sixty-four year old drunken guy, whose wife had left him for a younger man. Day in, and day out he sang the same song, over, and over, and over again. Nicholas was ready and willing to strangle him had they been sharing a cell.

"In a trap, trip I can’t grab...never thought I'd be the one who would slip, then I started to realize I was living one big lie..."

Nicholas groaned and threw a pillow over his head, trying to drown out the man's voice. It was almost breakfast time. He had to keep it calm until then. He didn't want the guard's rushing in on account of him...at least, not yet.

"She fuckin' hates me! Trust, she fuckin' hates me...La La La love. I tried too hard and she tore my feelings like I had none. And ripped them away!"

Breathe in, breathe out. Nicholas shut his eyes tightly, and pressed the pillow tighter against his ear. It was bad enough that the song sucked, but if you add in the old man's voice, Nicholas was sure his ear drums were about to split in half.

"She was queen for about an hour. After that, shit got sour. She took all I ever had, no sign of guilt...not feeling bad, no!"

How long had Nicholas been in jail? He was sure it was longer than a month, but with Hunter singing next to him, it was probably two to three weeks at the most. Everything had been set for the robbery, everything was perfect. If that stupid bitch of a sister in law haven't of set the god damn alarm off, he probably would have never been caught. She should be in here, not him.

"In a trap, trip I can’t grab...never thought I'd be the one who would slip, then I started to realize I was living one big lie..."

That was it. Nicholas grabbed his blanket and forced himself not to strangle the other man. He pushed it onto the pillow, only to find out that the singing had begun to get louder. The bastard was purposely making him suffer. It wasn't that Nicholas could blame him; because he couldn't. If he had been locked in jail with no boo's...he'd probably kill, but seeing as how the old man purposely tried to piss him off, Nicholas wanted to settle on just killing him.

"She fuckin' hates me, trust. She fuckin' hates me, La La La love. I tried too hard and she tore my feelings like I had none, and ripped them away..." Hunter paused for a moment before starting to bang on the jail bars to a fast beat, "That’s my story, as you see. Learned my lesson and so did she. Now it’s over, and I'm glad ‘cause I'm a fool for all I've said."

Nicholas jumped up. "You're damn right! Now can you just shut the fuck up and let the rest of us get some god damn quiet?" Hunter's cool gray eyes looked over Nicholas for a moment before he slowly pulled his hand away. Nicholas sighed in relief, "Thanks for nothing you pathetic alcoholic." He laid back on his bed, resting the pillow under his head, and pulling the blanket on top of him. He closed his eyes, and felt sleep come over him. Until...

"She fuckin' hates me! Trust, she fuckin' hates me...La La La love. I tried too hard and she tore my feelings like I had none. And ripped them away!" Hunter began to bang on the cell bars connecting his and Nicholas' cell. Nicholas growled and jumped out of bed rushing towards the old man, who was currently laughing.

"I'll kill you when we get out of here."

"Boy, the day you get out of here is the day I quit wanting to drink," Hunter began to laugh again, getting Nicholas even more angry.

"I swear I'll-" There was a beeping sound before a voice in the loud speaker called, "Breakfast boys! Everybody up!" The cell doors opened and the different cellmates began to slowly walk out of their cells, heading for the dining area. Nicholas watched Hunter pass by and he smirked, throwing Hunter a wink. The old man shook his head and continued to walk on.

Nicholas waited until all of the men had cleared out before he started to move. He saw the one guard with his night stick, waving it back and forth as he walked. Before he reached the guard, his steps faltered and his fell to the ground, his arms going out in front of him for protection as he hit the ground with a loud smack.

The guard froze as Nicholas Dunn-Kelly began to violently shake in front of him. His legs kicked out and his back kept jerking up. He pushed his night stick in his pocket and rushed towards him flipping him over. Nicholas' eyes were rolling from side to side, saliva running down the side of his mouth. And suddenly the shaking stopped as did Nicholas, his eyes open, gazing at the gray wall of the cells around him.

The guard reached to check Nicholas' pulse, but Nicholas snapped into action, grabbing the guard's night stick out of his pocket, and bringing it down quickly to meet the guard's head. There was a loud cry from the guard before he fell into unconsciousness. Nicholas shrugged and pulled the guard into his own cell, quickly swapping his clothes for the guards. "Sorry Deputy..." Nicholas looked at the tag, "Sorry Deputy Hansen." His grin widened and he walked confidently out of the cell, he was finally going to go home.

James Valenti Jr. sipped his coffee silently, looking through his case files. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened in Roswell, New Mexico lately. "Alien sightings", attempted robberies, speeding tickets, drunk driving...the list went on.

Roswell, New Mexico had never been the type of town where anything crazy happened. In the past fifty years, ever since the supposed "crash", Roswell had been a crazy town. More and more lunatics began to segregate in Roswell, especially around the crash festival, but the most interesting was Nicholas Dunn-Kelly. He was one of the three Dunn-Kelly's wanted for armed robbery, assault, speeding tickets, and so on and so forth. So far, Sheriff Valenti was lucky to have caught Nicholas when he did. Unfortunately, Nicholas' brother Khivar, and his wife Tess had managed to get away.

Jim reached for his coffee cup again, and went to take a drink. He sighed; empty. A figure passed by his doorway and he quickly shouted, "Hansen!" When Hansen never turned around he cursed and walked towards the doorway, only to see Hansen walking quickly towards the exit. Hansen didn't walk like that, and he never wore his hat. Looking down towards the cells, Sheriff Valenti made his way towards them, gun on the ready. Each cell was as empty as the first, except for Nicholas Dunn-Kelly's cell.

"Aw... shit!" he yelled. He grabbed his walkie-talkie and stated clearly, "Prisoner on the loose, I want all the exits locked up. He will NOT leave this station!"

<center>***</center>

"You got it?"

Tess frowned at her husband. "I got it."

"Positive?"

"I said I got it!" Tess shouted, quickly shutting down her laptop, and reaching for her gun on the dashboard. After a few minutes, Tess began to panic. "Where the fuck is he?"

"He'll be here," Khivar said sharply.

"We're outside of a fucking police station-" Tess was cut off by a shrill sound. The doors were beginning to lock. "He ain't got much time left."

Khivar’s eyes darkened as he watched the door intently. He turned the ignition. "I'll give him two minutes." A minute passed before the station's doors were slammed open. Nicholas was staring smugly at the car, as he ran towards it. Tess fumbled with the lock as Nicholas started to bang on the door. "Pull up the lock!"

"I'm trying jackass, it's stuck!" Tess shouted back. Khivar rolled his eyes at the two, and aimed his gun at the lock, immediately pulling the trigger. Nicholas pulled the door open, jumped in, and slammed it shut.

"Now Tess," Khivar commanded. Tess pressed a small button on the top of her laptop. Immediately, the metal gates in front of the station began to close.

"Buckle up Nicholas," Tess stated, before sarcastically adding, "Wouldn't want anything to happen to you." Nicholas sneered, crossing his arms over his chest. Khivar raced towards the gate as it closed, the metal scratching the sides of the jeep. Nicholas went flying, his forehead hitting the back of Tess's seat.

"Should've buckled up," she laughed. Nicholas ignored her, turning back to look at the station. He saw Sheriff Valenti and a few more policemen running out of the station and towards their vehicles. Red and blue lights flashed as they tried to get past their own gate. He grinned.

Come my lady, come come my lady
You’re my butterfly, sugar baby
Come my lady, come come my lady
You’re my butterfly, sugar baby

Liz flinched and stopped the music as she heard a shout. Pulling her tank top off, allowing the cool wind to hit her sports bra, she jogged over to where Vicki Delaney was curling up on the grass, clutching her knee. "Are you okay?" Liz asked.

Vicki bit her lip before nodding. "I just need ice... I'll be fine."

"Courtney, get her some ice," Liz demanded. Courtney nodded and led Vicki away. Liz turned on Pam, furious. "What the hell were you thinking? Your job is to help catch the flyer not let her hit the ground! Four laps around the track."

"What?! That's ridiculous! She fell, it wasn't my fault," Pam retorted. The other girls watched their captain with pride as she snapped, "Ten laps, or you're off the squad." Before Pam could reply, Liz turned back to the others. "All right girls, let's try the Victory Pyramid."

<center>***</center>

"Screw up again Troy?" Maria teased, as Pam Troy joined her on the track. Practice had ended half an hour ago, but Maria was still running extra laps, enjoying the feel of having the track to herself.

Pam sneered, "Shut up DeLuca."

Maria rolled her eyes and ran away from the track, heading for the bleachers. She grabbed her water bottle and towel, rubbing the towel over her neck before letting her long hair flow down her shoulders. She pulled it back again and threw it back into a sloppy bun before setting her water bottle down and running up the bleachers. The burning in her thighs and calves urged Maria on as she ran up and down.

She spotted Liz from the bleachers, and offered a friendly wave to her friend who returned it whole heartedly. Liz was wearing the same grin she wore everyday since she went on one date with Max Evans and planned a second one for this upcoming Friday. Maria shook her head and grinned; now she had to find her own Mr. Right. Personally, she thought he had been hit by a truck.

"She's going to run upstairs," Michael Guerin stated, throwing more popcorn into his mouth. He shook his head as Neve Campbell ran for the stairs instead of out the door. "Told ya."

"Mickey!" Hank called from outside. "Give me a hand on this car, will ya?"

Michael paused the movie and placed his popcorn bowl down before approaching the car. "Yeah, Pops?"

"I'm going to try starting the car; let me know if it works, all right?" Hank grinned, and moved towards the front seat of the old truck. Shaking his head, Michael bent down, placing both hands on the sides of the hood, holding it up. Hank started the car, and it began to purr like a kitten before steam started to come out of the radiator.

Michael coughed and bent down, waving the smoke out of his face. Ah ha...there was a loose screw caught in between two wires. He reached for it, and pulled it out, but his elbow snapped something off, causing oil to spray all over Michael, covering his face.

"That needs a bit of work," Hank said through his laughter. He reached over and offered Michael a reassuring pat on the back before getting back to work.

Was it wrong to sleep in until twelve on a Saturday? Kyle groaned and flipped around on his bed before reaching for his remote and turning the TV on. With a yawn he watched as a black jeep was chased on South 285 by several cars. He reached towards his night table and grabbed the Oreo package he had left overnight. The phone rang and still tired, Kyle answered, "'Ello?"

"Kyle?"

"Hey Dad," Kyle yawned once more. "You're on TV."

"I'm calling on Hansen's phone. I wanted to let you know I couldn't make it to your game today. Nicholas Dunn-Kelly escaped from the station this morning-"

"S'okay Dad, especially when the season ended last week," Kyle rolled his eyes. "Look Dad, I gotta go. I had a late night." With a click, Kyle hung up the phone and slumped back down in his bed. He flipped through the channel's before finally staying on the cooking channel.

That only increased his hunger and Kyle rolled out of bed, hitting the floor. He did his routine twenty push ups before getting up and heading for the kitchen... today was going to be a long day.

<center>***</center>

"Sweetie, I tried to make you breakfast but that stupid toaster broke again. Do you think you could fix it?"

Alex stared at his mom in irritation. "The reason it won't work is because I took all of the parts out of it. Just buy a new one."

"You took the old one apart, you buy a new one."

"Hey, when Dad accidentally lit the gazebo on fire you didn't make him buy a new one." Alex mumbled.

"That's because I hated that gazebo. Your father liked it."

"So much he burnt it to a crisp," Alex stated cheerfully. His mother shot him a look. "I need you to clean the garage."

"Are you kidding? I have to go to Isabel's today... Mom it's our last weekend before the crazy week of packing and such."

"It won't be so crazy if you get some of it done today." She moved over to the microwave and placed a dish of bacon in. When she tried to start it, it wouldn't work. She threw her hands up in the air and spun around to glare at him. "What else have you emptied out? First my toaster, than my microwave... I don't even understand why I buy things at all."

Alex rolled his eyes and stood up, walking over to his mother. He leaned over and plugged the microwave in. She bit her lip as it started up. Alex leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Later Mom."

"I'm sorry, Max, but I refuse to watch Baywatch," Isabel grabbed the remote from her brother's hand. "Isn't that what you have Liz for?"

Max glared at his sister and then rolled his eyes. He stood and stretched before crossing the room to bench press.

"One day, that thing is going to fall on you and all I'm going to say is-"

"‘I told you so‘?" Max guessed.

"‘Serves you right, Jackass,’" Isabel corrected.

"I was close," Max shrugged and then smiled, laying back down.

Isabel rolled her eyes. "You could just join weight training."

"Right," Max replied, blowing air out of his mouth as he lowered the weight. Isabel threw her hair up and then flipped through more channels, stopping at a country station to annoy her brother to all ends. He shot her a glare. "Gee Iz, thanks for putting the channel on something I'd enjoy."

"I thought you liked country," Isabel replied innocently. She threw her head back and sighed dramatically. "I'm so bored."

Max, not looking at his sister but out the window, grinned. Walking up to the front door was Michael Guerin, one of his best friends since they had first been introduced in kindergarten. Michael was the first kid Max knew, other than himself of course, that could piss Isabel off to the point where actual steam could be seen coming out of her ears.

"Michael's here," he stated. Isabel turned to see Michael walk confidently into their living room, throwing himself in one of the chairs, and resting his feet on the table. Isabel used her own feet to kick his to the floor. "No feet on the table. It's rude." Yet, she kept her own on the small table.

Michael rolled his eyes before greeting Max, "Hey Maxie!"

Max, currently doing sit-ups nodded to Michael, before getting back to counting. For a moment there was silence until Michael groaned. "Aw... come on guys! We gotta do something!"

"We live in Roswell. We have NOTHING to do," Isabel stated, her voice unenthusiastic. "Then again, we could always try to find some..." She lowered her voice to a whisper, "aliens."

Michael threw the back cushion of his chair at Isabel as she fell to the floor laughing. "The look," she snorted, "on your face was priceless!"

<center>***</center>

Shampoo. Where was the damn shampoo when you needed it? Kyle looked through the different aisles of the supermarket, his eyebrows raised. He had conditioner... the only problem was getting shampoo. He sighed in frustration. Couldn't a guy just expect to come into a grocery store and find the shampoo right where it should be? He caught sight of someone working there and he immediately rushed up to them.

"Hi, can I help you?" The clerk greeted. Kyle bit back the urge to roll his eyes at the annoyance in the clerk's voice. He worked there, so he should just suck it up and help a person. "Yeah, where's the shampoo?"

"That all depends. Which shampoo would you be talking about?"

"The kind you wash your hair with. What else would I be talking about?" Kyle snapped.

"Oh, that kind." The clerk raised a cigarette to her lips. "I'd love to help you. It'd complete my day... No, actually, it'd be the reason for why I was still living but, I'm on break."

Kyle looked at her with wide eyes. "Can you point me in the direction of where it might be?"

She gave him a single look before getting up and walking away. Kyle threw his hands in the air. "That's it! Dad can get his own damn shampoo next time." He walked for the Exit after paying for his purchases and headed towards his house. Unfortunately, his car was in the shop for work so he was walking around town... everywhere.

He pulled his headphones on, ignoring the sounds of the traffic, and waited for the sign to say he could cross. He walked across the street when it did, not hearing the wails of the police cars. Once he reached the middle of the street a black jeep sped right past him. Kyle froze, almost feeling his heart stop. He turned to run back across the way he had come, only to have several police cars speed mere centimeters in front of him. With a look of terror on his face, Kyle dropped the groceries and ran. He had to tell the others.

<center>***</center>

"We gotta do something guys," Michael repeated, standing up. "We gotta see the rest of Roswell, blow this town apart, we gotta party!" He stood close to Max. "But noooooo! Someone's got to go and fall in love-" He jumped back as Max swung out at him.

"Cut it out guys," Isabel stated. She shot Max a look. "Although, he is right."

"Even if I hadn't have "fallen in love" we would still have to clean the attic," Max stated.

Michael held his hands up. "Clean? Oh no, I don't do the cleaning thing."

"Now you do," Isabel stated. She got up, stretched, and turned to Michael, who was trying to make a quick getaway. She coughed and he groaned, turning around. "Do I have to?"

"Yea, you 'have to'," Isabel caught Max laughing. "So do you, buddy."

At that, Max groaned and stood up. Michael was right, it was the weekend. They should be doing something other than packing and moving.

"What's in the attic?" Michael asked, shooting an annoyed glance at Isabel.

CRASH!

Isabel and Max immediately jumped backwards from the flying glass. Isabel looked up and smiled despite the ruined window. She helped her boyfriend up. "Are you okay?" This was the second time this week Alex had tried to enter through the front window. He lived next door, and had created a clothes line connecting their window to his window, on the second story. Unfortunately, it didn't work out as well as he planned.

"Yeah, I'm fine. No injuries. I'm good." He winced at the sight of all of the glass. "But my mom will kill me once your mom bills her for the window."

Isabel frowned. "No... this place will be all ruined soon anyways. One broken window won't keep them from tearing our homes apart." Alex wrapped his arms around her comfortingly.

"Glad you're here, Alex, we get to clean," Michael said sarcastically, breaking the awkward silence that had settled.

"I just finished cleaning the garage!" Alex stated, a look of pure torture on his face.

Isabel crossed her arms over her chest. "You don't have to help. You could all just leave me to do everything."

"I'm liking that plan," Michael replied.

"Sounds good," Max sat next to Michael as they turned the TV on.

"EVERYBODY UP!" Isabel shouted. "Let's go. Up the stairs!" She turned the TV off, and pointed to the stairs. "You all have two seconds."

"Think she's serious?" Michael asked Alex. Alex raised an eyebrow at his girlfriend. "Say goodbye to your balls, dude."

Michael and Max jumped up, racing for the stairs. Isabel grinned and kissed Alex on the cheek. "Let Kyle in, will you?"

Alex paused. "Kyle?" At that moment, the doorbell rang. He raised an eyebrow in his girlfriend's direction.

Isabel shrugged. "I saw him coming when you came in."

<center>***</center>

"Alex!" Kyle shouted, as he rushed through the door to enter the Evan's house. "Alex, my man, you will never believe what happened!"

"You're right. I probably won't if it's coming from you," Alex shut the screen behind Kyle and began to walk up the steps, Kyle right behind him.

"I'm serious!"

"I bet."

"You're a punk," Kyle sighed. "Well... where's everyone else?!?"

"The attic. We're all cleaning today," Alex said, faking a smile. He pulled on a string, and pulled the ladder down, leading them to the attic. "Kyle's here to help, guys."

"Yeah, yeah-" Kyle cut off at the sight of the attic. "Holy shit. Is this a library or an attic?" Books were everywhere, covered in dust. Buried underneath them, were boxes.

"These are all some of Dad's old cases," Max replied. "We have the pleasure of taking all of these boxes out to the trash."

"Dad and I have to do that too," Kyle stated, looking around. At the mention of his dad, he jumped in the air. "Guys, I almost died!"

"Right," Isabel said picking up a box and opening it. "Dad has a lot of junk."

"That's what sucks about being a lawyer," Michael huffed and sat down near a pile of boxes.

"Guys, did anyone hear me? I just said I almost died!"

"You said that two weeks ago, and a month before that, and then two months before that-"

"FINE!" Kyle shouted, flinging his hands in the air. "I wasn't almost killed two weeks ago. But a month ago I was, and two months before that, too."

"You're right. You're the Sheriff's son, of course people are going to try to murder you. What are the rest of us thinking?" Isabel asked sarcastically. "By the way, while you tell us your tragic death story of the month, hand me that box near you."

Kyle grinned. "Okay, so I was at the supermarket and I was crossing the street when this 2001 black jeep went flying across the street - centimeters away from me - so, I turned to cross the other way, and then a whole bunch of cop cars went past, again centimeters away. Man, it was the most amazing thing, you should have been there." He went to grab the box, and hand it to Isabel when he tripped on a loose board and went flying. The box landed on it's side, the top flying off, and papers tumbling out.

"KYLE!" Isabel shouted. She picked the box up and groaned. "Look at all of these papers."

"I think I broke something," Kyle mumbled, as Max helped him up.

Isabel stacked some of the papers back into the box. She looked around for any she might of missed, and spotted a manilla portfolio. She pulled it towards her, curious. There wasn't anything special about the envelope, except on the front, in bright red letters, it read 'CONFIDENTIAL'. What could her dad have in here that was so secret? Isabel opened it, dumping the contents into her lap.

"What are you looking at?" Michael asked, bored. "I thought we were supposed to be cleaning? Weren't we?"

Isabel still didn't look up from the papers. "Max, get over here!"

The others stopped sorting through the boxes and approached Isabel. "What'd you find?"

"Max, look, this is a map!" Isabel's eyes shone with excitement.

Max took it, and looked at it. "A map to where?"

Isabel picked up a broken pendant, hanging on a silver chain. She put it around her neck and rubbed it. It seemed to broken in half. Next to the chain, had been a key. She pocketed it, and then turned back to answer Max's question. "I don't know, it's written in Navajo." She turned to Michael. "Your mom was part Navajo... what's it say?"

For a moment there was a flicker of emotion in Michael's eyes, before he leaned down to look at the map. His brow furrowed, and he rubbed his forehead. "The map's really old, it's hard to read through all the smears and smudges."

"Try," Isabel urged.

Michael strained and worked the frail, almost ancient seeming paper over with his eyes. There was a spark of recognition as his eyes followed the lines of writing, and the silence was almost palpable. Four tense teenagers waited and watched their friend who was trying to decipher the language. Finally, Michael looked up with wide eyes.

"What? What does it say?!" Isabel questioned with impatient urgency.

"It's a map... it's a map to an alien spaceship," Michael said, his voice serious. Isabel searched for amusement in his eyes, not finding any.

"Oh please!" Kyle moaned. "And you guys didn't believe me?!"

Michael glared at Kyle. "I'm serious. It's a map to an alien spaceship."

"Isabel... please tell me you don't believe this," Max said, looking down at his sister who had remained silent.

She looked up. "It all makes sense Max! All of this is about a case Grandpa was working on in 1948. He was defending an old Navajo man named Riverdog," Isabel looked back down at the papers, and read through some of them, "Apparently, Riverdog said he had been walking through the desert that night when there was a bright white light, and a loud crash. He was knocked unconscious, but when he woke, there was a figure lying near him, covered in blood. He rushed the figure towards a nearby cave. When the stranger awoke, Riverdog called him Nasedo-"

"Which means 'Visitor' in the Navajo language," Michael added.

"Nasedo told Riverdog a story about his planet-"

"His planet? Which would be what?" Alex asked.

Kyle laughed out loud, "I can't even believe we're having this conversation."

Isabel shot them both a glare. "Look, laugh if you want, but I'm serious. I remember, when I was little, Dad used to tell me stories-"

"Dad would tell you anything to get you to sleep," Max stated.

Isabel sighed and looked back down at the map. "No... he was telling the truth. Nasedo told Riverdog the same story Grandpa used to tell Dad and Dad used to tell me!"

"Let me guess," Kyle licked his lips, "Once upon time..."

"You ass!" Isabel snapped, slapping Kyle's leg.

He yelped and jumped back. "I was just guessing!"

"What was the story?" Michael asked, interested.

Isabel leaned forward. "There were five planets; Hanar, Antar, Sero, Kathana, and Tarsus, which formed a V-shape. In the center was the planet Antar. It was lead by the Royal Four; Zan the King, Rath, his second, Vilandra, Rath's fiancé and Zan's sister, and Ava, Zan's Queen."

At that Max snorted.

Isabel shot him a look. "Do you mind?"

Max held his hands up as if he was surrendering.

"Antar was being attacked by the farthest two planets; Kathana and Sero. They each wanted the power Antar held over the other planets, so they attacked, planning on taking Antar on as their own. The Antarians weren't prepared for the attack and the Royal Four were killed. The head scientists were able to take the essence out of the Royal four and implant it in embryos. Nasedo, was flying them over to Earth for protection. A few weeks later, a second ship was to follow him in case Earth didn't agree to protect the Royal Four."

"Nasedo brought gems, and different jewels as a peace offering between Antar and Earth, but before they could land, a traitor who had hidden in the ship, damaged the embryos and the essence of the Royal Four. The traitor damaged the ship well enough to crash it, before Nasedo was able to kill him."

"And Nasedo told Riverdog all of this?" Alex asked.

"Yes, Nasedo hid the ship, the jewels, and gems in Roswell, and left a map, this pendant, and a key in Riverdog's care for when the second ship came down to Earth."

"Wait a second, Isabel," Kyle said, "why didn't Nasedo just take the jewels for himself? Or at least go to the President and offer an alliance between Earth and Antar? Where's Nasedo and this Riverdog now?"

"Riverdog passed away awhile ago, but my dad told me that Nasedo waited years for the next ship to come and finally he was captured by a group of the FBI, and tortured before he escaped to go back to the ship."

There was silence for a second before Michael burst into laughter. "I get it. This is all a joke, isn't it?"

"What?" Isabel asked, annoyed. "It's not a joke. I'm serious... we can follow the map and find the-"

"Intergalactic booty?" Kyle laughed. "Nice joke, Isabel. You got us."

"I swear-" Isabel was cut off my the sound of the doorbell ringing.

"Saved by the bell," Max joked. He led the others the rest of the way down the stairs, leaving Isabel alone in the attic. She glared at their backs before gathering the remains of what was in the manilla envelope and rushing down the stairs after them. They were going after those jewels if it was the last thing she did!

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter 3
</center>

Here we are
Hanging on to strings of green and blues
Break the chain and we break down
Oh it's not real if you don't feel it

Max crossed his arms, staring down the older man. He looked younger than he actually was, in a crisp navy suit and a smirk covering his face as he looked appreciatively at the surrounding houses. Max could see the gleam in his eyes at the thought of tearing all of the houses down. This angered Max. Did he go to Pierce's house and tell him that it had to be torn down for a stupid mall?

"Can I help you?" Max demanded, staring him down.

"Max, good to see you again. You remember me, of course? Daniel Pierce... Sean's father," Daniel Pierce said, turning to face the teens with a fake smile plastered on his face.

Max scowled at Pierce.

"Yeah, we know Sean. My dad probably knows him a bit better than we do," Kyle stated.

Take that you blue balled bitch! Isabel thought gleefully as the smile disappeared from Pierce's face.

"Is your mom or dad home?" He held up a light blue envelope and shook it, "I have some papers I need them to sign."

Max walked down the porch steps. "My dad's in Clovis, and my mom's visiting my aunt," He held his hand out for the envelope. "I'll make sure they get it."

Pierce smiled, and handed over the envelope. "Thanks Max." He nodded to the others and smiled. Max mumbled, "Fuck you."

"What was that?" Pierce asked, raising an eyebrow at Max.

"I said 'thank you'," Max replied.

Pierce shot him a look before walking towards his car. He stopped and turned back to say, "Happy packing."

<center>***</center>

Unspoken expectations
Ideals you used to play with
They've finally taken shape for us

"What'd he give you?" Isabel questioned as Max walked towards the house. "Nothing. It's for Mom and Dad."

"It's papers for the house, isn't it?"

"It's for Mom and Dad," Max snapped. He turned to watch as Pierce left their community. "I hope that bastard's happy knowing how many families he's driving out."

"He knows," Michael stated, "That's what makes him a bastard." He lead Max back inside, Kyle soon following.

Alex remained behind. "Iz?"

Isabel turned her head so he wouldn't see her tears. "I'll be right there." Alex moved towards the door, and then paused and walked slowly back over to her. He wrapped his arms around her waist. She put her hands over his, and leaned back against his chest. "God, I just... I hate being different."

"Different from who?"

"From everyone!" Isabel sighed. "I hate being different from everyone. We live on the edge of the quarry... okay, so what? Why do we have to be treated differently?"

Alex frowned. "Everyone's different Isabel. If we were all the same - we wouldn't be... us." He leaned in to kiss her cheek. "And I happen to love you just the way you are."

<center>***</center>

"...He's not going to let us go. We have to take it into our own hands," Isabel stated. She had been talking to Michael, Kyle, and Alex for the past half an hour, explaining her plan. Max had still not relented in letting her go for the jewels of the Royal Four, so she had to take him out. Well... not literally take him OUT... well, you understand.

"Those are not going anywhere near my hands!" Kyle replied. "Don't you have rope around here anywhere?"

"Yeah, how 'bout you give me a second to pull it out of my ass!?" Isabel replied sarcastically. "Look, I'm the one doing all the work here, all you gotta do is distract him."

"How are we supposed to do that?" Michael asked.

"Look, I'm his sister, not his freaking other half! You're guys... you'll think of something," She walked towards the door and froze. "Wait… you will think of something, right?"

"Pantyhose!" Alex shouted. Kyle, Michael, and Isabel all slowly looked at him.

"When I said think of something... I didn't mean more of my undergarments," Isabel replied. "It's okay sweetie, I love you just the way you are."

Alex sighed. "No... that's not what I meant..." he quickly explained his plan.

Isabel jumped up excited. "You're a genius!"

"I know," Alex smirked, and blew the top of his right finger as if it were a gun.

The three guys headed down the stairs, intent on distracting Max.

<center>***</center>

Good enough for you
Is good enough for me
It's good enough
It's good enough for me
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

"Hey Max," Michael greeted. He slumped down on the couch, closest to the chair Max was in. Was he obvious? Could Max tell they were up to something?

"So did what'd Isabel need you for?" he asked, not looking away from the TV screen.

Michael looked to Kyle and Alex for help. "Oh… uh she just-"

"Wanted to show us…" Alex panicked. What could he say Isabel wanted to show them? If he said her bras, Max would kill him. Dead. Murdered. No more Alex. He gulped.

"Okay, I can't take it anymore," Kyle groaned. "She wanted to show us your birthday gift, and see if we thought you'd like it." Michael and Alex were stunned. Who the hell was this? Where had Kyle Valenti gone?

"Well... what is it?" Max asked, clearly excited. Kyle blanked. How was he supposed to know that Max would ask what his gift was?

"A new car stereo."

"A DVD player."

"A picture of Liz Parker taking a shower."

All three guys looked at each other as they spoke the words simultaneously. Uh oh. Busted.

Max looked confused, and then laughed. "Okay, so you can't tell me. Got it... but a little hint wouldn't hurt, especially if Isabel never knew-" At that moment, Isabel pulled cloth across Max's chest, binding his arms to his body. Alex, Michael, and Kyle jumped into motion, pulling Max's arms behind the chair, and tying them together with Isabel's pantyhose.

The four stood back to observe their work, and burst into laughter. Max Evans; struggling against pantyhose, and bound to a chair by two of Isabel's bras connected to each other. Max looked down at his chest and screamed, "Isabel! Get it off! Get it off!"

"Gotta go, Max. I'm really, really, sorry," Isabel kissed his cheek before running out of the house, laughing as she climbed into the jeep.

Michael jumped in the passenger seat as Alex and Kyle hopped into the back. "He's going to kill us."

Now you say
You're startin' to feel the push and pull
Of what could be and never can

<center>***</center>

Max was going to kill them. As soon as he got his hands on them, he would kill each and every one of them. He sighed in frustration as he slipped one hand out of the pantyhose, and pulled it off, flinging it across the room. He looked down at the bras. This was going to be utter hell. How did you get one of these things off?

He tried to reach for the clasp, but every time he shifted, the bras would cling tighter to him. He could always call Liz and ask for help... Oh yeah, that'd go real well. What would he tell her? 'Hey Liz, it's me, Max. Look, my sister bound me to a chair with her bras, think you could help a friend out?'

Max took a deep breath and pulled his arms together. He heard a snap, and a pop. Hey, throw a crackle in there and you've got Rice Krispies. Max hopped out of the chair and looked at the scene before him; pantyhose on the floor, the couch a wreck, a bra on the coffee table, and a bra on the floor near Max's chair. He kicked it under the chair and smirked. When his parents came home, Isabel was so busted.

That was... if Max didn't kill her first. The entire Royal Four story was a load of crap Dad told Isabel every night to get her to sleep. Max rolled his eyes, and stormed out of the house, leaving a note explaining he had gone out. Only problem was... Max was stranded. "Shit!" he cursed. Where his jeep was usually parked, there were tire marks. He kicked the dirt, sending sand everywhere. He ran his hand through his hair.

Those bastards had stolen his jeep! Oh, they were beyond dead, now they were extinct. "Damn! I'm gonna-" Max stopped in mid speech, spotting Alex's pride and joy; a bright red Vespa scooter. And, lucky for Max (or unlucky for Max), the keys were in the ignition, the wind rocking them back and forth. Max groaned, it was his only option, and if he wanted to catch up to them, he'd have to leave now. Hopefully, Max remembered the map right, and should be heading on 285 South... towards Marathon, Texas.

He hopped onto the Vespa, and turned the ignition. If he didn't crash before the day was over, he'd be fine. The Vespa sped off, passing by the houses Max was so familiar with... houses that wouldn't be there within the end of the week. Max shook his head. He'd do himself no good thinking about that right now. Instead, he had to think of what he would do to the other four.

You mirror me stumblin' through those
Old fashioned superstitions
I find too hard to break
Oh maybe you're out of place

<center>***</center>

Liz Parker was annoyed. She looked out the window of the car and sighed. Why did Maria's car have to break down on the side of the road? Why did Sean Pierce have to be the one who noticed them first and offered them a ride? And why did she say yes? Oh yeah, she remembered now; because she and Maria had no other way home. Liz felt Sean's arm slid over her shoulders. She shrugged it off. "Sean, I already told you, I'm with Max."

"Evans?" Sean scoffed. "Right. Liz, you and I both know you were just trying to make me jealous. It's okay, it worked." Liz's mouth dropped open, and she shot Maria a look of astonishment. Was he for real?

"Yo, Criminal Kid..." Maria said, leaning forward, "Liz likes Max. Max likes Liz. Get over yourself."

Liz smiled. Oh gosh, she loved Maria... and this was why. She shot her friend a look of thanks, and Maria shrugged.

Sean rolled his eyes. "Whatever DeLuca." For a few moments there was silence before Sean let out a long throaty laugh. Liz shot him a look, "What?"

"Your... boyfriend... is up there," Sean nodded his head in the direction of a bright red Vespa a little ways ahead of them.

"No friggin way," Maria said under her breath. Her eyes narrowed to examine the rider better as Sean sped the car up. "I didn't know he had a Vespa!"

"He doesn't," Liz replied, "he's got a jeep. It must be in the shop... or something."

"Or he's a loser." Sean was a few feet away from Max. He honked the horn and called, "Evans!"

Good enough for you
Is good enough for me
It's good enough
It's good enough for me
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

<center>***</center>

Max stopped the Vespa, and leaned against the car. He nodded to Liz and Maria, "Hey guys, how's it going?"

"Hey Max," Liz smiled at him underneath her eyelashes. "Where's your jeep?"

"Isabel took it... I'm kind of going after her right now," Max explained. He gave Sean a small nod, "Pierce."

"Evans," Sean smirked, and looked the Vespa up and down. "Do you want a... ride, somewhere?"

Max shook his head. The day that Sean offered him a ride out of the kindness of his "heart" was the day that Max Evans stopped loving Liz Parker. "No thanks. I have to give Alex his Vespa back anyway."

He thought he saw Liz frown, but he wrote it off as his eyes seeing things. He waved. "I better get going. I'll call you later Liz."

Liz nodded, and grinned, watching as he drove off. Maria waved herself with her hand. "Whoo... that boy is finneeeeeeee!" Liz laughed, and leaned back towards Maria, to whisper in her ear.

Sean felt his face grow red with anger. Liz was his girl. They were made for each other. They came from the same sort of family, same part of town, they wanted the same things… well, Liz would soon want the same things he did. How Max Evans could just swoop in and take Liz away from him made him even more pissed. He couldn't wait until Evans' house was torn down and he was forced to leave Roswell, and Liz.

He suddenly sped up behind Max, hitting the edge of the Vespa, sending it sliding forward. Max turned around in shock, and Liz and Maria screamed. Maria slapped the back of Sean's head. "You jackass! Pull over, and let us out!"

Sean hit the Vespa once more, ignoring Maria and Liz's pleas.

"Stop it Sean! Leave him alone!" Liz tried to grab control of the steering wheel, pulling the car into a different lane. Sean jerked it back to the side, hitting the Vespa and Max, sending them both flying across the desert.

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter 4
</center>

Where had the sun gone? It had taken a while for the four teens to head off towards Marathon, Texas and when they arrived Isabel had noticed how the sun had been hidden behind a group of clouds, and how much colder it had gotten. Was this an omen?

"This is it?" Kyle asked in disbelief. "This is where the intergalactic booty is?"

"That's what the map says," Michael replied. "Apparently, it used to be a shop or something like that. Atherton bought it and made it into a house."

"Apparently, someone else lives here," Alex pointed to the jeep parked near the house. "What are we going to do? Do we just walk in and say 'Hey, don't mind us, we just found out you have precious gems and jewels hidden somewhere around here... now we'll just get it and be on our way'? I don't think they'll go for it."

Isabel's eyes widened. "We gotta call Max!"

"Oh yeah, that's gonna help us. He'll kill us all," Kyle stated sarcastically.

"No, I have to call Max. Our jeep broke down, and Max has to come bring us a spare tire. So while I call him, Alex will have to go to the bathroom."

"I will?" Isabel shot Alex a glare. "I mean... I do!"

"And in the bathroom Alex will-"

"Hey, Iz... I think we all know what Alex is going to do in the bathroom," Michael replied, cutting her off.

Isabel groaned, "Oh god... why did I decide to bring the three stooges with me? Was I that desperate?!?" She buried her head in her hands. "Okay, listen carefully. I'll be pretending to talk to Max, and Alex will head to the bathroom, but he won't go in the bathroom... he'll look around for any doorways or anything that can help us. And you two," Isabel looked to Kyle and Michael, "You two have to keep the owner distracted.”

"No prob... I can distract them easily," Kyle smirked and folded his arms. "If it's a chick, I'll just send a little of my charm towards her."

Isabel turned to Michael, "You are my only hope Michael, don't screw this up or I swear-"

"You'll what?"

"I'll tell Maria DeLuca you like her."

"Motor Mouth!?!" Michael snapped. "Are you fucking serious? I don't like her."

"Puh-lease Michael! You two flirt so much it's disgusting," Isabel began to mimic Michael and Maria. "Oh... Michael you're such an ass... but really, your ass is so cute."

"Whatever you say psycho... by the way your ass is cute too... bite my butt and call me an apple!"

By now, Kyle and Alex were leaning against each other, tears pouring down their cheeks. Alex snorted and pointed at Michael. "Dude..." he broke off into laughter again.

Michael rolled his eyes. "Grow up guys!"

"Oh, you're just pissed 'cause you got DISSED!" Kyle taunted. "Oh gosh... Isabel... that was... that was a classic." Michael flipped Kyle off.

"Hey, as much as I appreciate the offer and everything… Apple Butt, I just don't float that way," Kyle replied, bringing Alex to tears once more.

Michael turned to Isabel. She held her hands up, "Don't look at me... you brought it on yourself. Denial's a bitch, Guerin."

"So is payback," Michael threatened.

Isabel wiped her eyes. "Was I just threatened by MB?"

"MB?" Michael questioned, eyebrow raised. Isabel couldn't say it. The words were lodged in her throat with her laughs. She began to hiccup, "Ma... hiccup... ria's... hiccup... bitch... hiccup." Kyle and Alex broke into laughter once more.

Michael rolled his eyes and looked away. "Hilarious, yeah... real funny. Catch me, I'm about to fall on the floor and die laughing."

<center>***</center>

Sean pulled over to the side of the road, laughing. He turned to look at Maria and Liz. "Holy hell, did you two see how far he flew?" Sean broke off into another fit of laughter. Liz's eyes narrowed. She pulled her arm back and let it go, her fist connecting with his nose. He screamed and grabbed it. "Biz! I fink you droke by bose!" (Liz! I think you broke my nose!")

"You should be glad I only hit your nose," Liz snapped. She rolled her eyes. "You're pathetic Sean, and you need help." She pushed the car door open and slammed it shut, walking back in the direction she had last seen Max. She paused and turned to wait for Maria.

"You jackass!" Maria hit Sean's arm. "You could have gotten us killed, and who knows what the fuck you did to Max!" She grabbed her stuff and jumped out of the car, shooting Sean a glare as she caught up to her friend.

"Do you think he's okay?" Liz asked.

"Who gives a rat's ass? It's just Sean's nose, and it wasn't like it was so perfectly straight anyways," Maria stated.

Liz held back a laugh. "No, I mean Max."

Maria took a deep breath, and then sighed. "Yeah... I'm sure."

<center>***</center>

He was dead. He knew it. Every spot on his body felt as if it was in pain, or on fire... or both. He groaned. Wait... if you were dead, could you groan? He didn't care, as long as he could stay in this exact spot for the rest of his life. As long as Max didn't move, he'd be just fine.

"OH MY GOD!" Max flinched. Who was screaming in his ear and why?! "MAX! Are you okay?" He felt someone turn his body over, and he jumped up in pain. Yeah, ow!, he didn't want to be moved! He opened his eyes and squinted, waiting for his vision to focus in on the person so he could properly bitch them out. "That really-" He stopped in mid sentence. In front of him was Liz Parker, and she looked worried. Worried about who? About him? Really? He grinned. "That was what I really needed. Thanks."

"Are you okay?" Maria asked. She knelt down by Liz and Max. "We tried to stop Sean, but he's an asshole and he wouldn't stop the car until after he hit you, and we didn't know if you were okay or not, and then finally he stopped on the side of the road and Liz punched him, and I think she broke his nose, and I hit him on the arm. Don't worry, I'm sure it'll cost a fortune for his nose to be perfected. Speaking of broken bones, is anything broken? Do you feel okay? Do you want to go to the hospital? I don't know how you'd get there seeing as how we have no car, and we're all stranded in the middle of the fucking desert, and holy shit where the fuck are we?!?" Liz slapped her hand over Maria's mouth.

"Maria, calm down," She turned to look at Max. "Are you okay?"

Max nodded. "Yeah... I'm just going to be really, really," Max stood up with the help of Liz, "really sore in the morning." He stretched. "Scratch that, I'm going to be really sore for the rest of my life."

Maria flinched and looked at the remains of the Vespa. "Your bike..." she trailed off. "Sean is so paying for that."

"It's okay, it's just Alex's," Max replied, smiling at Liz. "Thanks for coming after me."

"Oh, no problem-" Maria cut of., "Oh, right, you were talking to Liz. Course... well, I think there was a house or a building of some sort somewhere. I'm sure they have a phone I can use, and a... bed you two can use." Maria walked off, leaving Max and Liz to look after her in shock. "Is she-"

"Always like that?" Liz finished. She nodded and bit her lip. "Yeah, she is. You just have to ignore her sometimes."

"I like her," Max said, grabbing Liz's hand and following Maria. He rethought what he said. "I mean, I don't like like her, but I think she's... original."

Liz laughed. "Max, it's okay."

Max nodded. "Right, of course. I'm shutting up now."

"Okay," Liz laughed. She smiled and shook her head. "So, are we still on for Friday?"

Max grinned. "Would I ever cancel?"

"FYI, I can still hear you two!" Maria called. "Oh and by the way, Max, I think you're original too." Max blushed.

<center>***</center>

"Okay, so we are all clear on the plan?" Isabel asked. It had been fifteen minutes since they had 'attacked' Michael and she had gone into more detail on what the four were to do.

"Wait, okay, go over the plan one more time," Kyle said.

Michael elbowed Kyle. "How difficult is it? You and I will distract whoever lives there, while Alex takes a fake piss and Isabel makes a fake phone call. Got it?"

"Yeah, yeah. I got it," Kyle replied. The four started out for the house, passing the car on the way. Kyle stopped. "Nice rims," he complimented. What kind of car was it? He shrugged. Not bad, a 2001 black jeep- Wait. His eyes widened and he ran towards the others who were near the front of the house. "Guys!" he hissed.

Isabel turned her head and raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"The car... that's a 2001 black jeep," he stated. The other three gave him a pointed look. "Don't you get it!?!? There was a police chase after a 2001 black jeep earlier today on South 285!"

"Get to the point," Alex demanded.

"We went on 285! There is a black jeep right over there!" Kyle yelled, pointing to the jeep dramatically.

"Kyle's right guys," Isabel replied. "I mean, we all know there was only one 2001 black jeep ever made in the entire world." Isabel sighed and held Kyle’s cheeks in between both of her hands, forcing him to look her in the eye. "Kyle, breathe in and out. Think about it this way, we're in the middle of the desert, and there's nothing blocking our view. Don't you think the police would be able to track them down here?"

Kyle gulped, "Okay, fine but-"

"Speaking of nothing blocking our view, is that just me or are three people coming our way?" Alex asked, standing on his toes so he could see. "I think... I think one of them is hurt or something, they're limping a little." He squinted and then grinned. "Hey guys, I think it's Max!" Alex frowned and then cursed. "Guys! It's Max!"

"He's handicapped, we could take him," Kyle replied.

Isabel hit him in the stomach, before standing on her toes to try and see whoever Alex saw. "Who's with him and why is he handicapped?"

"Plan A is ruined. What was Plan B?" Michael asked Isabel. S

he bit her lip. "Ididn'tthinkwewouldneedaplanb."

"What was that?"

"I didn't think we would need a Plan B!" Isabel snapped. She stormed away from the house shaking her head at the three following her. "Unbelievable. I get stuck with Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dumb, and Tweedle Dumber!"

"Who's who?" Alex shouted, running to catch up with her. "I'm Dee right?"

<center>***</center>

"Is that Isabel, Alex, Kyle, and Michael?" Liz asked.

Max looked up and glanced at the figures approaching. He nodded. "Yup."

"You want to hurt them, huh?"

"Yup," Max replied.

Maria held a hand up. "Dibs on Spikes!"

Chapter 5

"Oh my God!" Isabel stated, as they neared her brother. Holding him by the hand was one Liz Parker, and right next to her was Maria DeLuca.

"And the rich bitches are here because?" Michael asked. Realization hit him. "He's not going to kill us guys... he's going to torture us! Or at least let Maria and Liz go at us."

"You never know, they might make us shop ‘til we drop," Kyle teased.

Alex rolled his eyes. "If I can say something, I think Maria and Liz are pretty cool. I've got Maria in my drama class and she's not a bad singer, and Liz is in Bio with me-"

"Not another word Alex," Isabel pleaded, not wanting to hear more about the two most popular girls in their school. "And please, no one mention the treasure."

<center>***</center>

"Wait, so all four of them are going after some sort of treasure?" Maria questioned, her eyebrows raised.

Max nodded. "Yup."

Maria held back a laugh. "As in a real treasure? Gold... jewels... pirates with a patch and a parrot?" At that she burst into laughter. "Argh Matey!" She began to laugh again, and Liz sent her a wink.

Max smiled. "Think more like 3 feet tall, huge eyes, three fingers... little green men."

"A-a-liens?" Maria asked. Liz couldn't help it, she began to laugh, Maria along with her. Maria shook her head. "Oh geez... it's too much." She held the sides of her stomach. She straightened up as Michael, Alex, Kyle, and Isabel approached.

"Hey DeLuca, you looked pretty good from a few miles away," Michael stated, "I was pretty sure it was someone else until we got closer."

Maria rolled her eyes. Was that his pathetic attempt at an insult? "I knew it was you... I could still smell you a couple miles away."

Kyle interrupted their argument and looked at Max. He nodded. "What happened to you Forrest Gimp?"

Max glared at Kyle, and then switched his gaze to Isabel. "Do you have any idea how much trouble you're going to be in once we get home?" He hopped a little to face Kyle, Alex, and Michael. "And you three, if there is one scratch on my jeep-"

"Max, usually, I'll admit that you can be pretty intimidating but after that little hop you did, I wouldn't be mouthing off any time soon," Kyle replied.

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Speaking of, how did you get here?"

Max immediately felt the weight of the Vespa on his shoulders. "Uh... you see... you guys left me with nothing... so I took the thing closest to the house..." He shot Alex a look and watched as Alex put a hand over his heart. "My Vespa?!?!" he asked, shocked. Max nodded. A look of anger appeared in Alex's eyes, and he grabbed Max's shirt. "Is it okay?"

"I'm sure it'll work just fine... once all of the parts are reattached," Max mumbled. Alex gave a dramatic sob and buried his head in Isabel's shoulder. She rubbed his back sympathetically and shot Max a glare.

"Technically Alex, this is all Isabel's fault... it was her idea to tie me up, wasn't it?" Max added.

Alex straightened up and looked his girlfriend over. "He is right... it was all your idea. If you hadn't suggested we run out of your house, my Vespa would still be... perfect."

"Or you know what would be a better idea?" Maria said. "Sean was the one who destroyed it. I say sue him."

"Daddy is a lawyer," Isabel added. "Don't worry, we'll buy you a brand new Vespa."

"Kay," Alex agreed, "but it better have a little horn on it."

<center>***</center>

"What are you planning on doing?" Liz asked. The seven were standing in front of the house, Max holding her hand and smiling down at her.

"Usually, people knock," Isabel replied sarcastically.

"And usually, people answer," Maria stated. The others looked at her. She rolled her eyes. "There's no car. No one's here."

Kyle looked around the corner, his eyes wide. "But the car was right there. I saw it."

"Maybe they left when we were talking," Max suggested. "Which is a good idea. I say we leave."

"I didn't hear a car pull out," Kyle replied. "Did anyone else hear a car pull out?"

"I saw the car leave," Maria snapped.

Isabel shrugged. "This just makes it easier. We get in, get the treasure, and get out."

"You can't do that, it's breaking and entering," Liz said quickly.

"Aw... is the Princess scared?" Michael asked, faking a pout. Liz's eyes narrowed as Kyle and Isabel laughed slightly. She pulled a bobby pin out of her hair and pushed Isabel out of the way of the door. "Move." She played around with the lock on the door and grinned when she heard a click. She opened the door and turned with a smug look on her face.

Maria laughed and gave Michael's head a pat. "Aw... is the asshole dumbfounded?"

"Where'd you learn how to do that?" Max asked.

"Sean. You hang around him for five minutes and he's already telling you his life story. I've gotta say, the way to a girl's heart is teaching her how to break into a house," Liz stated sarcastically. She and Maria watched as the others filed into the house.

"I'm not going in there," Maria replied, when Alex turned around, holding the door open for them. "For one, this house looks, and is, ancient. I have no idea where it's been, or who's been in it, or where they've been... so I'm staying out here."

"All alone?" Liz teased, walking into the house.

Maria's mouth dropped. "Liz! You can't go in there, it's against the law!"

"I broke the lock, I might as well see what I broke the lock to," Liz grinned at Maria.

Maria groaned, "Fine. Fine! But when my mother tries to kill me when we are locked in jail, you are taking the blame. And, if anyone tries to make me their bitch you will stop them, or die trying. Agreed?"

Liz laughed, and stuck out her pinkie, linking it with Maria's. "Agreed."

<center>***</center>

"Are you sure someone lives here?" Maria asked for the third time in the past ten minutes. She had been walking around searching for... well anything, and had come up with nothing in her hands but dust.

"And for the millionth time; yes!" Michael snapped. "God, are you always such a whiny rich girl?"

"You weren't complaining last night," Maria replied with a smirk. "Especially when I tied you up-"

"What?" Kyle asked, laughing. He turned to Michael. "You let her tie you up?"

"Dude, she's shit talking!" Michael insisted, shooting Maria a glare. She licked her lips and shot him a wink.

"Whatever you say buddy..." Kyle muttered. He noticed Alex looking through boxes. Alex pulled out a bunch of rope and Kyle shouted, "Pal, put the rope away or the Prince of Bondage over here might get some ideas."

As Kyle walked over to Alex, Michael turned on Maria. "What is your deal?"

"Who, me? I could ask you the same question! Have I offended you in some way?" Maria snapped, putting her hands on her hips. "Because in my opinion you've got a rather large stick up your ass."

"And in my opinion you're a spoiled little rich girl with one too many credit cards," Michael said calmly.

Maria rolled her eyes. "Oh grow up."

"Oh ow, that one hurt," Michael said, putting a hand over his heart.

"Yeah well, send my love to Michael Jr., big emphasis on the JUNIOR!" Maria stormed away, and Michael watched as she flung her hands in the air pointing at him as she talked to Liz.

"I think you like her," Isabel said from behind him.

"Yeah well, don't think, it's not a good look for you," Michael snapped, walking away. Isabel smiled. Oh yeah, this was gonna be fun. Her brother and Michael both liked the two rich bitches? Let's see how much they liked them after she proved how snobby they really were.

<center>***</center>

"Geez... talk about a key freak," Liz mumbled, running her fingers over the keys on a single key chain. Each key had a white tag attached to it, and every tag had a different color. Liz fingered the keys with a raised eyebrow, and moved away from the desk, keys in her hand.

"Shit!" Liz cursed lightly when she bumped into a small trunk. She bent down. That's funny... do trunks usually have red marks on the lock? Instantly, Liz grinned and looked down at the keys. Okay, so red with red. She could do this. She grabbed the 'red' key and stuck it into the trunk. When it opened, she smiled gleefully. She should probably get Max or something.

Standing up, Liz looked around for Max, and began to make her way over towards him when she stopped. Isabel was sitting by herself, looking at the map and then up at the house. With a sigh, Liz walked over to her. "Isabel?"

"What do you want?" Isabel asked, not even looking up.

Why did Liz bother? "I found these keys, and they seem to be color coded. One of the keys opened up a trunk, so I figured you would want them." She held the keys out to Isabel, who simply looked up at her stunned.

Isabel looked from the keys, to Liz. She didn't know what to think. Either Liz was actually trying to be helpful, or she knew that Isabel could see right through her so she was sucking up. Isabel decided on the latter one. "Thanks," she replied icily.

Liz rolled her eyes. "Whatever," she said, and dropped the keys in Isabel's lap. "So much for being nice-"

"I don't need you to be nice. Drop the 'I'm like one of you guys' act, because I can see right through it. I don't know why you decided to mess around with my brother, but if you hurt him as some sort of popularity stunt, you'll live to regret it," Isabel stood up, keys in one hand and the map in the other. "This treasure has nothing to do with you, so stay out of my way."

"You all think that Maria and I act like we're above you... well we don't act like that and we don't think that. Are we that transparent?! Look, I'm here, helping you. And I'll continue to help you. But don't judge me when you don't know me, and don't accuse me of using Max. You have no idea how I feel about him, or how he feels about me so stay out of it," Liz snapped, hurrying away from Isabel.

Out of the corner of his eye, Alex watched the scene and shook his head. When was his girlfriend going to learn that not everyone who lived outside of the quarry looked down on those who did? He rummaged around through a bookshelf when something caught his eye. His jaw dropped and he gently pulled it out. Oh geez-

"Whatcha lookin at?" Kyle asked, looking up from a magazine about trucks.

Alex quickly hid it behind his back. "Nothing."

Kyle walked over and quickly grabbed the magazine. One look at it and he was in heaven. "Oh, Holy Buddha, is this what I think it is?" Kyle looked up at the ceiling, "Thank you."

Alex reached over to grab for the calendar when Kyle slapped his hand away. "Watch it Grabby Hands, this is a Jody Ann Patterson calendar. It is like a Holy Bible... but so much better!"

"I found it! Finders keepers, losers weepers," Alex quoted.

"Yeah well, first the worst and second the best!" Kyle grinned and then looked up at Alex who was frowning. "Okay, fine. We can both look at it."

The two sat down and Kyle opened the calendar. He brought a fist to his mouth and bit down. "Oh geez..."

"I know," Alex agreed, licking his lips and nodding.

"Boobies!" Kyle cried joyfully. "Look at them... they just look so-"

"I know," Alex turned the page. "Best invention; ever! Who cares about electricity or the light bulb? Ben Franklin; zero. Thomas Edison; zero. God," At Kyle's look," and Buddha; ten."

"Amen."

"Break me off a piece of that!" Alex stated when it showed the picture for March. "Never mind... I want the whole thing!"

"Whole thing of what?" A voice asked from behind them. Kyle slammed the calendar shut and stuck it underneath his shirt.

"The whole thing of..." Alex looked to Kyle for help.

"A Kit Kat," Kyle said quickly. Isabel raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, because you know how small those things are?" Alex said. "Let me tell ya, the guy who made those... should be ashamed!"

"Okayyyyyy... whatever. Look, I found these keys, and I think they might open something, so look around."

"Yeah."

"Sure."

Isabel gave them both a look before walking away, shaking her head.

"Your girlfriend has nice boobies," Kyle stated as he walked her walk away.

Alex got a dreamy look on his face. "I know-" He slapped the back of Kyle's head, suddenly realizing what he’d said. "Hey! Don't look."

Kyle pulled the magazine back out. "Let's check out what Jody has planned for my birthday."

"It's gonna be a good month," Alex stated. As the pages turned he sighed. "I want a picture of Isabel."

"You don't have one?" Kyle asked. He closed the calendar. "It's really easy. If you want I can help you out."

"Really? How?" Alex asked, excited.

"What you do is, get a girl in her gym class to take a picture of Isabel in the shower or while she's changing. Here's where I come in. I tell the girl to do it so it never gets back to Isabel that you did it. Once the girl hands over the camera, I'll take her out on a date and you have a bunch of film of your girlfriend."

"Awesome! That's so-" Alex stopped, and raised an eyebrow at Kyle. "Wait a second... how do you know that?" He grabbed the calendar and stood up, away from Kyle. "Have you ever gotten someone to take pictures of Isabel?!?"

"What? No!" Kyle snapped, reaching for the calendar.

Alex took a step back. "Tell me the truth or Jody Ann Patterson will be in little bitty pieces."

"I swear, dude! I would never do that to you," Kyle thought for a second. "And if I did I would tell you!"

"Have you ever done it?" Alex asked.

"Of course not. Who do you think I am; Peeping Tom?"

"No, I think you're Peeping Kyle!" Alex retorted. Kyle lunged for Alex, who stepped to the side, holding the calendar up in front of his face. Kyle didn't realize Alex had moved until he had run straight into the wall, and then fell to the floor. "Owie," He mumbled before glaring at Alex. "Why'd you move?!"

"Rethink that question," Alex replied before helping Kyle up. Kyle dusted himself off and then grabbed the calendar. "Well... that would have been you on the floor if you had messed with my Jody."

Alex wasn't paying any attention. One of the rocks in the wall looked as if it was ready to fall out. It must have loosened when Kyle ran into it. He pulled it out and was surprised to see a lock. "Uh... Isabel?"

"What?" Isabel asked, coming over. "What'd you find?"

Alex pointed towards the lock. "I think one of your keys just might fit that."

"Alex! You're brilliant!" Isabel grabbed both sides of Alex's face and brought her lips to his.

"Whoa! I found it okay?! I ran into the damn wall and loosened the damn rock!" Kyle stated, closing his eyes and puckering up his lips. He opened his eyes to see Isabel giving him a look.

"Why the hell would you run into the wall?"

Kyle rolled his eyes, and called the others over. "Alex. ‘the genius’, found it," he mumbled sarcastically.

"Well, do any of the keys work?" Michael asked. Isabel looked at the lock. She couldn't tell if that was yellow or green. She pulled the yellow out and stuck it in the lock. Turning it clockwise, she jumped when there was a sudden click, and floorboards sprung up from behind the group.

Michael slowly walked over to them, before pulling them up. "Hey guys, it leads down somewhere." He began walking down the steps, only calling out once he reached the bottom. "Come on down guys."

Grinning, Isabel followed Michael holding Alex's hand as she went. Kyle and Max followed her, leaving Liz and Maria above.

"You don't have to come Maria," Liz replied.

"Hey, I said I would. And like I would leave you alone with that thing!"

"What thing?"

"Michael."

Liz laughed and gripped Maria's hand as the two slowly walked down the stairs. When they stepped on the floor Maria quickly looked around before whispering, "Oh my God."

Liz laughed and gripped Maria's hand as the two slowly walked down the stairs. When they stepped on the floor Maria quickly looked around before whispering, "Oh my God."

The stairs had led down to what seemed like a basement, with boxes and papers everywhere. "Oh my God," Maria repeated again.

"You said that already," Michael stated.

"Yeah, well... there's enough dust down here to kill a person." She turned to walk back up the steps, but Liz's grip stopped her. Maria groaned. "Liz... we could die!"

"Don't be such a drama queen," Liz muttered, looking around in fascination.

"Uh, hello! Liz, do you see where we are!? We're in a dusty old basement and you're looking at it like it's the treasure itself!" Maria snapped.

"Speaking of the intergalactic booty... do you think someone else got to it?" Alex asked.

"Nope," Maria stated.

"And you know that how?"

Maria glared at Michael, and waved her hands around, gesturing around the., "If someone else had found the treasure don't you think they would have hired a cleaning lady by now?"

Before Michael could reply, Isabel interrupted, "Michael, translate this... there has to be more to finding the treasure than walking into a basement."

Michael sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he concentrated on the smudged letters. He looked up and around the basement, taking in every inch of it before looking back down at the map. "Well, apparently there's a way out of this room."

"And the Smart Award goes to..." Maria said sarcastically. "It only takes a genius to know that if you got into a room, there's always a way to get out of it."

"Look blondie-" Michael snapped only to be cut off by Maria.

She narrowed her eyes in disgust. "BLONDIE?!? Excuse me Gel-Gone-Wrong, but I do happen to have a name."

"Both of you, quit it," Max stated, shooting Michael a glare. He shook his head and looked back down at the papers on the desk.

Maria rolled her eyes. "Whatever." She walked back towards Liz who was laughing with Alex.

"So should we be looking around for a different exit?" Kyle asked Isabel. After a few minutes of her not answering he looked to where she was looking. Alex was laughing with Maria and Liz towards the bottom of the stairs. "Iz?"

"Does he not realize he has a girlfriend and that she's in the room?" Isabel snapped, not even bothering to look at Kyle. "What do I look like, a mirage?!?" She huffed and leaned back against the poster hanging on the wall, only to fall back, her legs flying in the air.

Kyle, stunned, quickly leaned forward. "Holy shit. Are you okay?"

"Ow," Isabel moaned. She put a hand to her hand, and then brought a hand to what she had landed in. It was a tunnel. Leading to what, she had no idea, but a grin came to her face. She turned to Kyle, and reached forward, pecking him on the cheek. "Genius!"

Kyle smiled. Yup, that's right. Who was the genius? He was. He turned to the others as Isabel began to crawl through the tunnel. "Come on guys, Isabel and I found a tunnel."

Michael looked up and placed the papers back onto the desk, following Kyle. Maria grabbed his arm. "Look, I'm all for an adventure and crawling on my hands and knees collecting whatever diseases are in there, but are we sure that's safe?"

Michael sighed, and walked towards the tunnel entrance where Isabel and Kyle were waiting. "Let me see the map. We could be crawling away from the treasure. This could be a trap." Isabel rolled her eyes, but handed the map over to Michael.

For a few moments all was quiet while Michael's eyes skimmed the old language. He looked up at the tunnel, and then towards the stairs.

"Well?" Alex asked.

Michael shot him a look. "You wanna do this buddy?"

"Hey, I was just looking for an update," Alex shot back defensively.

"Well the tunnels is the way we go," Michael stated, handing the map back to Isabel.

She smiled. "That's what I thought. Let's go."

Maria gave a nervous laugh. "But it's the tunnels. You don't know what's down there."

"Better there than here with you Motor Mouth," Michael replied. Alex followed Isabel into the tunnel.

Maria narrowed her eyes. "Yeah, well ditto!" She pushed Michael out of the way and followed Alex. Michael gave Max a pointed look and he simply shrugged. With a groan of disgust, Michael hopped into the tunnel. Shortly after, Liz, Max, and Kyle followed, trying to replace the poster as best as they could.

<center>***</center>

"Don't look at my ass," Maria snapped, looking backwards to glare at Michael.

He rolled his eyes. "Could you be more conceited?"

"I don't like being in front of you, " Maria stated. She stopped./ "Switch me."

"Switch you?! What, are you crazy? We're in a tight space. There's no way we can switch," Behind him, Michael could hear Kyle groan.

"Come on guys! If you keep fighting we won't get anywhere!"

"He's right," Max replied. He nodded to Michael. "Switch her places. It's no big deal."

"Oh that's right. I forgot. We're all parts of the world and we all revolve around Maria," Michael muttered. He sighed. "Okay, well you're just going to have to crawl over me."

"In your dreams!" Maria snapped. "Can't you just move to the side?"

"Oh yeah sure. I'll just move into the space we don't have."

"Fine, lay down."

"Can't you guys just get a room? Do we really have to be here for this?" Kyle asked. Maria and Michael both shot him glares. "Guess we do."

Max, Liz, and Kyle backed up so that Michael could lay down. He waited for a few seconds before leaning back on his elbows and looking up at Maria. "Look Princess, we ain't got all day."

"Well why don't you yell at me?" Maria said sarcastically. She placed her hands on either side of Michael's legs, and then crawled on her knees over his body slowly. Suddenly, one of her hands hit something sharp and Maria pulled her hand away quickly. The rest of her body slipped and fell, and she landed on Michael, her face near his... equipment.

"Whoa!" Michael shouted, jerking when she landed. "Watch the merchandise, will ya?"

"Oh my God," Maria muttered. She pulled herself up again, swinging her long hair away from her face. "I slipped... I'm sorry."

"Be careful where you land," Michael replied, as Maria continued to move.

"This is like the beginning of a porno," Kyle mumbled. "Hurry it up. By now, Isabel and Alex have already found the treasure."

Maria inhaled quickly as she paused by Michael's chest. Now, it was harder for her to crawl around him. She could smell his cologne, and she closed her eyes.

"Maria?" Michael questioned. Her eyes snapped open. "Okay, I can't get past you now. You're... um... you're going to have to turn on your side."

Michael moved quickly, and Maria fell half on him, half on the floor of the tunnel. Her left leg was over both of his, and her left arm was gently touching Michael's cheek.

Maria quickly looked up at Michael, not daring to move or breathe just in case she might ruin the moment. Michael reached his own hand up to hold Maria's hand to his cheek.

"Holy. Hell. That's it," Kyle crawled over Maria and Michael, ignoring their protests. When he finally got off of them, Michael sent a kick to his shin, sending Kyle sprawling on the tunnel.

"Hey dude, I just wanted to leave this tunnel before the turn of the century," Kyle said in his defense.

"Asshole," Michael cursed. Maria coughed and quickly moved, rushing towards Liz. Her eyes met Michael's for a moment before she diverted her gaze.

<center>***</center>

Alex watched his girlfriend carefully. Isabel had been refusing to talk to him ever since they had climbed into the tunnels. He was certain he had done something to make her mad, yet he had no clue what, and the others had fallen behind. Now, Alex and Isabel were waiting, sitting in silence.

"Are you mad at me?" Alex finally asked, gaining enough courage to look his girlfriend square in the eye. "Because if you are, it'd be nice to know so I'll note to never do it again."

Isabel pushed her hair behind her ear. "Nope, I'm not mad."

"Oh-kay," Alex replied.

After a few moments Isabel turned to Alex. "Promise to be totally honest with me?"

"Of course."

"Am I prettier than Liz and Maria?"

A smile spread across Alex's face and he almost laughed. "You're gorgeous. Izzy. I see the stars in your eyes, and the sun in your smile. Who could compare to that?" His smile fell. "Wow. Now that was corny. If you broke up with me because of that one statement, I definitely wouldn't blame you-"

Isabel launched herself at Alex, her lips meeting his in a passionate kiss. Immediately, his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer to him. Her hand slid up his back and into his hair at the same moment that her tongue entered his mouth. He moaned and caressed her face, smiling as she slowly pulled back. She placed little kisses around his mouth, and pushed herself closer to him. It was as if Isabel was sitting in his lap. His legs were spread out, with Isabel on top of him, her legs wrapped around his waist.

Isabel leaned her forehead against Alex's, and she licked her lips. "I love you Alex Whitman."

"I know. I love you too Isabel." He gently kissed her lips, as his hands moved up her back, and then rested on her shoulders, before sliding down her arms, and then stopping on her stomach. Isabel kissed her way from his mouth to his jaw. She licked his neck before biting it and than sucking on the skin. She grinned when she felt a movement in his jeans. Her left hand slid down his side before cupping him. Alex jumped beneath her and placed his hand on hers.

"Man! Is everyone in here trying to have sex?!?" Kyle shouted, leaning back against the tunnel as he saw Isabel and Alex.

Isabel sighed, and leaned slightly away from her boyfriend. "Hey Kyle. Where are the others?"

"Last I saw, Michael and Maria were about to strip their clothes off and go at it. Not that I mind seeing DeLuca naked, but seeing Guerin naked would give me nightmares. And Max and Liz were staring at each other, having eye sex."

"Staring at each other?" Alex asked.

"Eye sex?" Isabel added.

"Yeah, and so I came to get away from them, to find you two about to have sex. Great. This is not the weekend I had planned. It's like... Temptation in the Tunnels, and I have no one." A slow smile spread on Kyle's face, as he reached behind him to pull out the Jody Ann Patterson calendar. "Never mind, Miss Jody is always here with me."

"Dear God," Isabel muttered. She turned to look at her boyfriend. "He wouldn't actually masturbate in front of us, would he?"

"I hope not," Alex replied.

"Valenti!" Isabel shouted, causing Kyle to drop the calendar and look at her. "If you whip out Kyle Jr. I'll chop it off and feed it to you for breakfast, ‘kay?" The look of horror on Kyle's face was satisfaction enough for Isabel. She kissed Alex's cheek before crawling off of him.

After a few minutes, Michael, Maria, Liz, and Max were crawling towards the others.

"About damn time," Alex stated, stretching his legs. "What were the four of you doing?"

Kyle coughed behind his hand and said loudly, "Orgy!"

Liz blushed, and buried her head in the crook of Max's neck and he smiled, stroking her hair. "Okay, so what's next?"

"We keep going. We were just waiting on you guys. I don't think we should split up," Alex suggested. He grabbed Isabel's hand, his fingers lacing through hers.

"I'll lead the way this time," Michael said quickly, crawling forward. Maria shot him a hurt look before turning to Liz. Max groaned and followed Michael, leaving Isabel and Alex to follow him. Kyle was flipping through the calendar and he caught Maria and Liz watching him. "Oh, you guys can go ahead. I'll be the back of this happy little group."

Maria shrugged. "Okie dokie."

Kyle flipped through the calendar some more before finally shoving it behind him once more and beginning to crawl. "I hate tunnels... yes I do. Tunnels aren't good for you," Kyle sang lowly. He shook his head at his own song, and then noticed a vent. Curious, Kyle slid over to it and looked inside.

His jaw dropped. "Thank. You. Buddha," he mumbled, rubbing his eyes before pushing his hands up against the vent. He was staring into a plain room, with nothing more than a bed, a chair, a TV, a dresser, and a bathroom. And lying on the bed was the most beautiful person Kyle James Valenti had ever seen.

She had a tan face, long curly black hair that went below her shoulders, a petite body, and pink lips that Kyle was dying to kiss. Her eyes opened, and Kyle nearly jumped back. They were vibrant, and Kyle could lose himself in them for days. She turned her head, and Kyle immediately missed the comfort of those sea green eyes. Pressing even harder on the vent, Kyle never felt the jiggle of the screw or the vent giving out.

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter 7
</center>

March 7, 2001
Phoenix, Arizona

She straightened her black skirt and stood. Tossing her black curls over her shoulder, she smiled brightly and made her way into the bank. She spotted Tess out of the corner of her eye. She winked to her fraternal twin and proceeded towards the security guard. He wasn't too bad looking. He reminded her of her old history teacher, who she adored. Coughing, she 'accidentally' dropped her purse.

The guard noticed and bent down, picking it up and handing it all to her. "There you go, Miss."

As he stood back up Serena glanced at his name tag. "Thanks so much, Nate."

"Not a problem. Just doing my job," Nate replied. He began to walk away before Serena stopped him with her hand.

"Do you have a few minutes to spare, Nate?" Serena asked. She held out her hand. "I'm Serena Valmont and I've been writing articles on banks throughout Arizona for the Arizona Daily Star. Would you mind if I interviewed you? It's been hard to find experienced security guards and you look like you're experienced."

"I'd be honored," Nate replied, smiling.

"Great!" Serena pulled a pen and small notepad from her purse and followed Nate to a small table away from the tellers. "So Nate... tell me a little about you and your family."

Nate laughed. "Full name's Nathan Pevaski."

"Single?" Serena asked, crossing one leg over the other.

"30th anniversary's coming up soon," Nate said. "My wife's name is Melissa."

"Any kids to follow in the footsteps of an experienced security guard?"

"We've got a son and daughter; Scott and Jordan. Scott's twenty-six and just passed the bar in October at Harvard. He's been accepted into a firm and just got engaged to a fellow student studying to be a doctor. Her name's Nikki and Scott met her through Jordan. Jordan's twenty-four and has been studying to be a doctor also."

"Wow. A doctor and a lawyer? You and your wife must be very proud," Serena commented.

"We are. They're really great kids," Nate replied. Serena wrote down everything he said to make it look believable.

"How'd you get involved in the business?"

"Well... I hadn't always planned on being a security guard. I had been going to college in Tucson, at the University of Arizona. I played football for them, and was studying some law. When I went to the bank to cash a check I had received, I noticed Melissa. She was a teller, and hadn't been the least bit interested in me."

"Why not?" Serena asked with a small smile.

"Didn't like the jock type, and turned me down right away. But, us Pevaski men don't give up easily. I would use any excuse to come to the bank and see her, but she kept turning me down. Finally, I noticed there was a position for a security guard. I learned everything I could for weeks, not visiting Melissa until I was finally in uniform. The look on her face when she saw me is something I will never forget. We've been together ever since, and well... you can see I never gave up the profession."

"That's really sweet," Serena stated. "So... tell me about an average day at work." Had Serena not been interviewing Nate, he would have noticed Khivar and Nicholas enter the building with ski caps covering their faces. Tess had already left the building, pulling the car to the front of the bank.

"Well, thank you for your time Nate," Serena stood up and shook his hand. "I wish you and yours the best of luck."

Nate gave her a friendly smile, his eyes twinkling. "You make sure to send me a copy of that article."

"Will do!" Serena promised, pocketing her notepad and pen. Before she could get very far Nicholas grabbed her and held a gun to her head while Khivar yelled for no one to move. Nate pulled his gun out, aiming it at Khivar.

"Drop it or the lady here dies," Nicholas threatened. Serena saw Nate hesitate and then drop his gun on the ground backing away from it. Khivar headed for the tellers, demanding all of their money and quickly, while Nicholas kept a tight hold on her. Khivar grabbed the bags and made several trips to the car. When everything was loaded, Khivar shouted for everyone to lay on the ground and count to one hundred, not getting up before then.

Nicholas walked backwards towards the door while Khivar got into the car. As he moved to the pull the door of the bank open, Nate reached for his gun and aimed for Nicholas. Before Nate could shoot him, Nicholas pulled the trigger three times.

"NO!" Serena screamed, fighting against Nicholas' hand which was securely around her waist. Nate's mouth was open in shock as he looked at the three bullet wounds in his chest. Tears poured down Serena's cheeks as Nicholas pulled her out of the bank and pushed her into the car roughly.

She turned to him. "You asshole! That wasn't a part of the plan. No one was supposed to be hurt!"

"You shot someone?" Khivar demanded, turning around to look at his brother.

Nicholas pulled his mask off as the car drove away. "It was him or me!"

"And you shot
him?!" Tess asked. She shook her head and looked back at her sister. "Serena don't worry. You know Nicholas' aim. I bet it didn't even hit the guy."

"It did. I saw the blood Tess… God, we have to call the police."

"Are you insane?!" Khivar asked, yelling at Serena.

She flinched, but yelled back, "A man could die!"

"It's not my fault. He was going to shoot me," Nicholas replied in his defense.

"Tess, please stop the car,” Serena begged with her sister. "Please, you have to stop."

"Don't even think about stopping this car," Khivar threatened.

Serena looked into the rearview mirror meeting her sister's eyes. "Tess... please."

"Someone else will call the police Serena. It's out of our hands now," Tess stated. Serena turned to look through the window in defeat, putting a hand over her mouth to muffle her cries.

At 5:15 PM, Nathan Pevaski died of multiple gun shot wounds and severe blood loss. Serena took out her notepad and wrote the article she had never intended on writing. She sent it to the Arizona Daily Star, and couldn't help but cry as she saw a picture of Nate and his family on the front page next to her article the following morning.

September 28, 2003
Marathon, Texas

Serena jerked up in her bed at the sound of a large crash. She figured it to be Nicholas or Khivar, but was surprised to see a guy with chestnut brown hair and gorgeous eyes, staring up at her. She jumped up. "What the hell?"

Kyle tried to get up, but slid on the vent. He kicked it out of the way and quickly stood, staring at Serena.

"Who are you and where did you come from!?" Serena asked. Kyle didn't trust his voice so he simply pointed up. Serena looked up to the vents. "Well that was painfully obvious. Why were you in the vents?"

"I'm Kyle... I'm a ventilation guy. I'm checking the ventilation system... Here," Kyle replied quickly. It was at that moment that the Jody Ann Patterson calendar fell out from behind Kyle. Kyle turned a bright shade of red and kicked it under Serena's bed.

Serena raised an eyebrow. "I didn't know someone was coming to check the vents."

"It surprised me too," Kyle looked up at the vent. "Well I guess that needs some work now."

<center>***</center>

The others turned around as they heard a crash. Liz swung her head around. "What was that?"

Maria shook her head. "That is it. I am so out of here. I'm going home, taking a long, long bath, and then heading to the hospital to get numerous shots for any diseases I might have picked up from this place and Michael. After that, I am taking a long shower and reading a book on why men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Maybe that will help me understand what the heck is wrong with the rest of you."

Liz rolled her eyes at her friend. "Maria don't go."

"It's okay. Some Princess' just aren't brave enough," Michael stated.

Maria froze and turned around. "Look, I understand you have a problem with me, which is just fine, because I have a problem with you too, but anything you can do, I can do better. Okay buddy?"

"Is that why you're crawling away?" Michael asked.

"Both of you stop it," Max said. "I'm sick of having to shut the two of you up."

"If the job's bugging you then leave your complaint in the 'I-don't-give-a-rat's-ass' box," Michael replied.

"Oh, now that's witty," Maria told him sarcastically.

"Quit flirting," Isabel shouted. She looked around at the group and then past Max and Liz. "Where's Kyle?"

<center>***</center>

"Seeing as how I'm working for you and all... could I ask your name?" Kyle asked smoothly.

Serena smiled lightly. "I'm Serena."

"Well, then it's my pleasure to meet you Serena," Kyle grinned.

"You don't really work for a ventilation company, do you?" Serena asked. She crossed her arms. "I'm not as stupid as you might think I am."

"Hey, no really... I do work for a ventilation company. We're called 'The Ventilation Company', and I work there," Kyle winced. That was completely lame.

Serena raised an eyebrow. "Oh... well that's too bad. I'm not really into ventilation system guys."

"It's funny you should say that... I'm not either. Which is why I was thinking of quitting."

<center>***</center>

"If he's jacking off in the corner with that stupid calendar-" Isabel threatened.

"What calendar?" Michael asked.

"The Jody Ann Patterson one," Alex grumbled, still pissed he wasn't the one who had it.

"Jody Ann Patterson? The Jody Ann Patterson?" Michael asked in shock. He closed his eyes. "Kyle is one lucky guy."

"Yeah he is. When he'd get it?" Max asked, joining in on the conversation.

"Right before we went downstairs," Alex answered. "You should have seen the month of May dude. It's like Christmas, but in the summer time!"

Maria cleared her throat and the three guys turned to see Liz, Isabel, and Maria glaring at them.

"Oh right... what were we talking about?"

Isabel rolled her eyes at Michael, and turned back to Liz and Maria. "We should find him."

"What will we do with these three?" Maria asked.

"Don't you mean what won't we do with these three?" Liz stated. The guys winced as the girls made their way back down through the tunnel.

"We're going to die in here," Alex stated as the girls left. "We're going to die, and I'm gonna die a virgin. Holy shit."

<center>***</center>

Serena watched Kyle carefully. For the past couple of minutes he had been telling her all about himself. He was seventeen, a Junior at a high school in New Mexico, and his father was the Sheriff of Roswell. Serena sighed as she heard him describe his life... the one she gave up without a second glance.

When she and Tess had been sixteen, Tess had met Khivar and Nicholas at a local club in New York. As Tess became more serious with Khivar, Nicholas became more interested in Serena; the feelings definitely not mutual. Her father had deemed Khivar 'too old' for his daughter. In all actuality, it had been that Ed Harding had been scared for Tess. He was a retired police officer, and had a few friends look in the eighteen year old’s background. Both he and his brother had been accused of the high jacking of cars, and had a violent past.

Once Tess had gotten word that her father was going to send cops to Khivar's residence, she ran immediately to Khivar, telling him to leave. But Khivar wouldn't leave Tess behind. Against Serena's advice, Tess left with Khivar and Nicholas, and married Khivar in Las Vegas, Nevada. A few months later, they returned for Serena who had been broken without her sister. She left as soon as they arrived, not bothering to leave a note or anything for her father.

To this day, she wondered what he was doing, and how he was faring.

"So... how old are you?" Kyle asked.

Serena was jolted from her thoughts and was shocked at the question, not having been asked it in awhile. "Oh... nineteen."

She expected Kyle to whistle and call her an old lady, or something to that degree. Instead, he shrugged. "I thought so," After a second he quickly asked, "Have you got a boyfriend?"

Technically; no. But, Nicholas had always proclaimed she was his, and his alone. She shook her head and then smiled. "What about you? Do you have a boyfriend?"

"Oh... no see I'm not gay," Kyle said quickly. "I like chicks. I like a lot of chicks." At Serena's frown he added, "Not a lot, a lot. I mean, they're just high school chicks-"

<center>***</center>

Isabel, Liz, and Maria were laughing at the vent opening. They had arrived a few minutes before the conversation started, and couldn't help but laugh at how Kyle was handling herself. Maria leaned down in the room. "Hey Romeo, shut up!"

This sent Isabel and Liz into a fit of laughter. Serena and Kyle looked up surprised.

"Who are they?" Serena asked. Kyle waved them off with his hand. "Them? They're no one... just a bunch of nerds."

Maria, hopped into the room, followed by Isabel and Liz. After dusting herself off Maria offered her hand to Serena. "I'm Maria. I go to school with him." She jerked her thumb in Kyle's direction.

"I'm Serena," Serena said, shaking Maria's hand. Liz and Isabel introduced themselves as well.

"And you all work for the ventilation company?" Serena asked sarcastically.

Isabel didn't even look to Kyle. She swiftly hit him on the back of the head. "If your lie had been the least bit creative, I wouldn't have done that."

"We're on this stupid treasure hunt thingy-" Maria said, rolling her eyes. She felt Isabel pinch her and she spun around. "OW! What? It's her house... and we kind of are trespassing."

"It's not my house," Serena said quickly. "What do you mean 'treasure hunt'?"

Before anyone could answer, Serena heard voices from above her room, and heard footsteps. She and the others quickly looked up.

"Who's that? Your parents?" Liz asked.

"My sister, her husband, and his brother. They aren't as friendly as I am," Serena stated. It seemed like one of the three from above was going to come to her room, probably to give her food. There wasn't enough time for the four to crawl back into the tunnel. Serena grabbed the vent cover and silently pushed it back into place. She turned to the others. "You guys have to hide. Two of you under the bed, and two of you in the closet."

There were looks passed among the four, but Serena pushed them along. "Please. If they find you in here... I'll be in BIG trouble." Kyle and Maria hurried into the closet, hiding in the corners and behind Serena's clothes. Meanwhile, Liz and Isabel crawled under the bed hurriedly, watching Serena run around the room, making sure all traces of the vent falling were gone. She crawled onto the bed, and pulled the covers swiftly over her, shutting her eyes and turning on her side.

They all held their breath as they heard the feet coming nearer, and a slight jingle as keys were taken out from someone's pocket. There was a click as the door was unlocked, and a slight squeak as it opened. From under the bed, Liz and Isabel watched as the boots walked closer to the bed, and closer to them.

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter 8
</center>

"Sometimes I feel you’re not listening. Sometimes I feel you don’t understand, but I think I’ve got the answer...already know what you’re gonna say," Alex and Max turned to look at Michael with their eyebrows raised. It had been a few minutes since the girls had left them, and they had decided to wait behind. For some reason Michael found it necessary for there to be entertainment.

He leaned his head back and sang loudly, "‘Cause I’m just a little girl you see, but there’s a hell of a lot more to me. Don’t ever underestimate what I can do, don’t ever tell me how I’m meant to be! You say I’m just a little girl, just a little girl. How can I compare? What do I know? What have I got to share? But there’s nothing in this world, nothing in this world that could hold me down, can’t you hear me? Don’t you understand that I wanna be myself, wanna be the girl, wanna be the one that you can rely on? How I wish that you could see all there is of me, how I long to hear that you take me for who I am-"

"Dude!" Alex hissed. When Michael stopped singing to look up at him Alex looked at him in disbelief. "What the hell were you singing?"

"‘I'm Just A Little Girl’," Michael replied.

"No offense to... uh... you or anything but," Alex bit his lip, "inquiring minds want to know why."

Michael smirked, and changed the topic. "So Whitman... how far have you gone with Isabel?"

"Gone with Isabel where?" Max asked, joining the conversation. As realization dawned on him, Max shot a glare in Alex's direction. "Answer that and you're a dead man."

Michael whooped when Alex blushed. "Wow. If you don't answer that, you're a dead man!"

"Michael, Isabel is my sister," Max stated.

"For the next five minutes she's not," Michael shot back. He nudged Alex. "Come on Whitman, spill already."

"You know what? The others have been gone for awhile, I'm going to go and check on them," Alex quickly shot away from the two guys. Michael sighed and then motioned for Max to follow him.

<center>***</center>

Maria heard the door open, and through the cracks in the closet door, she saw a figure walk slowly towards the bed. She closed her eyes and began to breathe loudly before Kyle put his hand over her mouth. "Why are you breathing so loud?" he whispered.

"Because I'm scared!" Maria hissed back. Their tones were silent, but Maria had a feeling that whoever had entered the room wasn't friendly and could possibly hear it if a pin dropped.

"Why? It's probably just an overprotective brother," Kyle replied. Maria leaned closer to the closet door, and noticed the guy rubbing Serena's cheek lovingly as she “slept“.

"I hope that's not her brother or I will throw up all over her shoes," Maria stated.

Kyle glared at the guy, and clenched his fists. "If he knows what's good for him he'll leave," Kyle threatened.

"Damn Valenti," Maria said with a silent laugh.

"What?"

"You might as well get 'I'm a jealous mofo' tattooed onto your forehead," Maria smirked.

"I am not jealous," Kyle snapped, careful to keep his voice low.

"Oh please, yes you are!" Maria shook her head. "She's too old for you buddy."

"She's only nineteen!" Kyle defended. "It's not any worse than a Freshman dating a Senior. She's only two years older than me."

"Whatever - Grave Digger."

"Grave Digger?!"

<center>***</center>

Isabel and Liz lay closely together, side by side. Their arms were touching, and as the feet grew closer Isabel jumped back into Liz. Liz hid her face behind Isabel, casually peeking out to see how close the feet were.

"Oh God," Isabel muttered. It was so quiet the Liz almost didn't hear what she had said. She looked to see why Isabel had spoken and froze at seeing a gun tucked into the man's boot. She felt like she was about to faint, and gripped Isabel's hand for comfort.

"Shh..." Isabel muttered. She and Liz held their breath when the man sat on the bed. Leaning forward, Isabel heard a bit of what he said. "Serena... you are so gorgeous."

Isabel slid forward a little. Liz followed her, also listening to the man. "I wish you didn't make me lock you in here. You know I don't want to. If only you would cooperate-"

He cut off and rubbed her cheek before bending down and kissing her lightly on the lips. Inside the closet, Kyle was watching him closely. His eyes were wide and his jaw dropped slightly when the man stood. His position revealed his face to Kyle. It was a face he had seen so many times on TV that entire morning. "Holy shit."

"Holy shit what?" Maria asked. Kyle quickly put a hand over her mouth, now more worried about getting caught by Nicholas Dunn-Kelly.

Maria struggled against his hand and then bit it, causing Kyle to jerk his hand away. He sent her a threatening glare and she immediately put up both hands in apology. They both turned to continue looking through the closet doors.

Nicholas rubbed Serena's arm once more, before giving her one last kiss on the cheek. He stood and then left the room again, the sound of the lock turning into place echoing in the room..

The five in the room waited until they could no longer hear Nicholas' footsteps. Then, all at once, four of them burst into action.

"Who the hell was that?"

"Why are you locked in here?"

"Are you in trouble?"

"How do we get out of here?"

Serena sighed and then moved the vent again. "You guys should really leave."

"No way am I leaving this room unless someone tells me who the hell that was and why he was sending off bad vibes," Maria stated, moving under the vent.

"Nicholas Dunn-Kelly," Kyle replied before Serena got the chance to. "His face has been gracing news stations all over Roswell, and probably other cities. He and his brother, Khivar, have files at the police station that could fill the Grand Canyon. My suggestion is to go and get my dad down here."

"We can't just leave... I mean Kyle, we came here for a reason!" Isabel hissed, sending him a pleading look.

"If the reason was to get us all killed, then I must have missed out on the vote!"

"This could save our houses, Kyle. Isn't that important to you at all?" Before he could reply, Isabel turned to Serena. "Will they be leaving this place anytime soon?"

"No, they've stayed here for awhile and no one's been the least bit suspicious. They'll stay here for at least another month or so."

"Good. Kyle, we'll get the treasure and then go get Sheriff Valenti. That way, we can save our houses and make sure the Dunn-Kelly's go to jail. Okay?" Isabel asked.

"Fine," Kyle agreed, "but, Serena comes with us."

"What?" Serena asked.

"I don't trust that Nicholas guy not to hurt you," Kyle stated. "If we go on this crazy hunt then you are coming with us so I can keep my eye on you."

Maria rolled her eyes. "Basically he's jealous and you're coming without a choice. Welcome to the Insane Club."

"Who came up with that name?" Alex asked through the vent cover.

"Jesus!" Serena cried, jumping along with the others. "How many of you are there?"

"Seven," Liz replied. "That's Alex."

"I'm-"

"Serena, we know," Isabel replied. "Look, if you're coming with us then we have to leave now."

Sighing, Serena looked around her temporary room. She hadn't been able to leave it for at least a month now and was craving to get away from Nicholas. She grabbed a bag nearby and a set of clothes in case she would need them and a small bag in her drawer. "I'm coming."

Kyle gave her a smile and waited as Alex pulled the others up in the vent while Kyle gave them a boost up. When Serena came up to him, he put his hands around her waist and lifted her up. Alex grabbed her arms along with Isabel and Liz. Looking around to see if anything had been left behind he jumped and grabbed the edges of the vent. Alex helped him get up and then the two put the vent cover back on.

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Ninth Chapter
</center>

"So… you’re the Sheriff’s son?" Serena asked as the eight crawled through the air ducts. Kyle was next to her and above them were Isabel and Alex, then Michael and Maria, and Max and Liz behind them.

"Yeah. So you’re the criminal’s sister?" Kyle replied. Serena shot him a small smile.

"You know, we weren’t always criminals. I can’t say the same for Khivar and Nicholas."

"And here I go asking the stupid questions," Alex said, looking over his shoulder at Serena, "but how did Khivar get his name? I mean… it wasn’t given to him or anything right?"

"His real name is Franklin-" Serena rolled her eyes as Kyle and Alex started to laugh, "but he changed it because it wasn’t bad ass or tough or something like that."

"How did he decide on Khivar?" Isabel asked, elbowing Alex in the side to be quiet.

"It’s was his mom’s maiden name," Serena said. Michael and Maria had stopped in front of the others.

"What’s the problem?" Max asked, looking towards Michael who had the map out.

"Jerk-o over here got us lost," Maria stated.

Michael rolled his eyes and shot her a glare. "I did not get us lost! I just don’t understand these directions."

"You know, I think Geography class would really come in handy here. Maybe if you had shown up in school you would know how to read a map."

"Hey, I did go to school, okay? I just wasn’t rich enough for you to notice me."

"Oh please! That has to be the lamest thing you’ve ever said-"

"Thank God I’m nineteen!" Serena muttered, watching the two fight back and forth.

Maria grabbed the map from Michael’s hands and looked it over.

"Right, like you’ll figure it out," Michael said sarcastically.

"I did. We keep going and turn left," Maria pushed the map back against Michael’s chest. She shot him a smirk before getting back on her hands and knees and crawling along. Michael muttered under his breath before quickly following her.

"Are they always like this?" Serena asked Kyle.

"Yes, when they hang out," Kyle replied.

"I can see why they don’t," Serena stated.

"Oh, that’s not why. See, Liz and Maria have money. More then the rest of us. If Michael had as much money as Maria they would probably get along a whole lot better," Isabel said.

"Oh yes! That’s it! If you all had half the money Maria and I had, we’d say hi to you everyday in the halls at school. And if you had more then half, we’d all go bowling every Friday! What the heck, let‘s add to it! Our dad’s would probably all go golfing on Sunday right after the brunch where all of our families get together and eat breakfast. What a wonderful, exciting life it is," Liz said sarcastically. She pushed past the others to follow Maria and Michael.

"Uh-uh, Isabel. Not cool," Max hissed, quickly following Liz.

Isabel rolled her eyes and looked towards Alex who was giving her the same look Max had just given her. "Oh jeez, not you too."

"It wouldn’t kill you to be nice to the two of them."

"It probably wouldn’t… but I just might come down with all kinds of life threatening diseases. Then what would you do?"

Serena laughed and nudged Kyle to keep moving.

Alex shook his head and smiled, looking away from Isabel. She kissed the side of his cheek and then began to move before he shot out his arm and pulled her by the waist against him; her back to his chest. He brushed aside her hair and kissed the side of her neck, sucking slowly.

"Mm…" Isabel groaned, "Alex."

Alex stopped and locked his hands around her waist, resting his head on her shoulders. "Let’s make a deal."

"That’s really, really, really not what I was expecting you to say."

Alex ignored her. "Let’s just… pretend for the rest of this adventure that you, Maria, and Liz actually get along-"

"But-"

Alex put one hand over Isabel’s mouth. "No interruptions. Let’s also pretend that you’re going to say sorry to them and give them a fair shot-"

Isabel bit down on Alex’s hand.

"And then we’ll pretend that you actually consider them Goonies, okay?"

Isabel wrenched out of Alex’s grip, "Them? Goonies? You have got to be kidding me! They’re wanna-be New Yorkers!"

"Isabel."

Isabel sighed, and ran a hand through her hair. "As long as I’m just pretending…"

One eyebrow rose.

"Do I really have to say sorry… and be polite… and everything?"

"Yes."

"If I didn’t love you so much I’d just tell you to dream on. You know that, right?"

Alex grinned. "I know." He wrapped his arms around her again.

"Oh no!" Isabel crawled away from him. "I’m busy living a pretend fantasy of yours so that means you and I get no smoochies, buddy!"

Alex watched her crawl away for a second before hurrying after her. "Well as long as it’s my fantasy, can we all pretend that the three of you are lesbians? And can you three have smoochies? Because, I really like that fantasy of mine better."

<center>***</center>

"Stupid, ignorant male. ‘We’re two different species. You are of the Richus Homosapien species, and I am of the Poorus Homosapien species. We do not mix. It is strictly forbidden. Especially if it is me, in my spiked hair glory!’ God, like he has any room to judge anyone. Stupid, stupid person." Maria mumbled.

"You do know that I am right behind you and can hear every word you say?" Michael asked.

"Yes! And by the way, how many times did I say the word ‘stupid’ because I should at least give you credit and have the exact amount of your stupidity."

"Three times."

"Oh… sorry. Stupid! There, feel better?" Maria asked.

"I’m not worried about my health. I mean, are you feeling okay? There’s dust in these vents. And," Michael dropped his voice to a whisper, "dirt. I know you’ve never come across those two things before in your entire life. Maybe we should call daddy and-"

"Wow, you’re really funny. You should like… be a comedian when you grow up. They don’t require any type of education. You’ll be accepted just like that!" Maria snapped her fingers.

"I got a 1570 on my SAT’s, lamebrain. You do the math. I won’t have any problem getting into college," Michael replied. "Don’t worry… you should still be able to buy your way in."

"1570, huh? Who’d you copy?"

"Jealous, DeLuca? What? Did I do better than you?" Michael smirked.

"Actually, I got a 1572," Maria stated, crossing her arms over her chest.

"You did Mr. Anderson didn’t you?" Michael asked.

"You’re disgusting," Maria spat.

"No, that’s just the humor among us ‘poor folk’."

"Wow is this conversation getting us no where."

"I think it’s succeeded in pissing you off so I’d say it’s earned its worth," Michael said with a shrug.

"Whatever. I don’t know how I got stuck with you, but-" Maria stopped as she turned the corner and stared at the dead end in front of her.

Michael began to laugh. "So… did you ditch Geography too, or what?"

<center>***</center>

"Liz!" Max crawled next to Liz’s side. "Look, you just have to ignore Isabel, you know?"

"I don’t want to just ignore her Max. She’s your sister. She’s important to you."

"Is this some kind of break up speech or something because we barely got together a few hours ago and if it is a break up then she’s really, really not that important. In fact, Isabel who?"

Liz sighed and turned to look at Max. "That isn’t funny."

"Well… I don’t know what you want me to say. She’ll give you a chance, Liz. Or, you know, give her time. We are kind of stuck here for awhile, and I heard people tend to bond when they have no where to go."

"There isn’t enough time in the world for Isabel Evans."

"Well look at it this way. I like you, and Alex likes you. Isabel likes me, and Alex. She’s bound to come around to liking you." Max paused for a second. "Being her brother, I didn’t like what I just said at all. It sounded weird."

Liz laughed. "This whole thing is weird."

"What?"

Liz gestured around at the vents.

"Oh yeah. The uh… ‘search for a dead alien’s treasure’. No, you know, it happens all the time," Max insisted. "I was just watching Entertainment Tonight and there’s a movie coming out soon about it."

Liz lightly hit Max’s shoulder. "It is weird; admit it."

"It’s also sexy too, right? I don’t want to be known as ‘Weird Max’. ‘Sexy Max’ is cooler."

"Well, I guess the alien thing is sexy," Liz said.

"Would you ever date an alien, Liz Parker?"

"Would he look like you?"

"He just might."

"Then I just might give him a shot."

Max grinned wolfishly and lowered his head. Liz wrapped her arms around his neck and met his lips with her own. It wasn’t their first kiss but it was the first one where Liz wished they weren’t in a ventilation system. She pulled herself up to meet Max’s body, and opened her mouth when his tongue pushed against her lips. Max’s hands slid down her body and stopped at her waist, pulling her hard against him.

Liz pulled away with a gasp. "I think the title of ‘Sexy Max’ has just been approved."

<center>***</center>

"My dad was a cop," Serena said, breaking the silence. Ever since they had left Alex and Isabel, they had been crawling in complete silence. Then they had come upon Liz and Max and had hurried back around the corner, staying where they were until they were sure Liz and Max were either done or gone.

"Really, where?" Kyle asked.

"New York. He retired when Tess and I were in high school."

"Did you like it? That he was a cop?"

"Not really. I mean, he was gone all the time and if I ever had a date, then it was impossible for me to go out with the guy without some kind of backup check from my dad."

"How’d Khivar and Nicholas slip past that?" Kyle joked.

"They didn’t. I was never interested in Nicholas, but Tess was just so… enamored with Khivar. He… uh convinced her to elope with him when my dad finally did do a background check and threatened to come after him. It was really dramatic."

"And so you went with Tess?"

"Not until a few months later. I feel sort of bad about leaving my dad, but it sort of just… happened all at once."

"My dad is a cop all of the time. Twenty four-seven, you know? It’s always bugging me. He’s always not home, and if he is home he brings home paperwork from the office and stuff. It’s kind of annoying. You’re dad must have had been gone more if he was a cop in New York. Because… this is just the one horse town, Roswell," Kyle stated.

"I sort of like it here," Serena smiled at Kyle. "I mean, the people here aren’t so bad."

"You haven’t met Pam Troy yet," Kyle laughed, "she’s evil. And she has this crappy car that she always goes on and on and on about…"

"If I end up hanging around Roswell for awhile, maybe we could slash her tires or something," Serena offered.

"Yeah, that’d be cool. And the car’s kind of ugly so we may have to spray paint it."

"The whole car? Because that might take awhile."

"Of course the whole car! The inside too," Kyle replied. "And you know? I’ve got time."

Serena smiled and looked away. His hand slid over hers and when she turned to look at him he was looking at the wall as if it was incredibly interesting. Serena laced her fingers through his and then looked away too. He was seventeen, yes there was that, but he was also really cute. And sweet. Serena looked out of the corner of her eye. Did she mention he was really cute, yet?

<center>***</center>

Thirty minutes later, all three couples met back up with Maria and Michael, who were sitting in complete silence.

"What’s going on?" Kyle asked. "Why are they so quiet?"

"Maybe it’s that game… you know, whoever can shut up the longest?" Alex guessed.

"Yeah, that could be it! Or maybe they made a bet!" Max said.

"No, I think they just don’t have anything to talk about," Isabel replied.

Serena looked between Maria and Michael and then took a shot in the dark. "I think they just pissed each other off too bad to talk."

"She’s good," Alex mumbled.

"Cheese head got us lost," Michael reported, smiling.

"Whatever, it was your dumb map. What, like they don’t sell updated copies of that thing?" Maria replied irritated.

"They really don’t," Michael shot back.

"Can I see the map?" Liz asked, holding out her hand.

"Oh right, because we want the second rich girl to get us lost," Michael said.

"Just let her see the map." Isabel demanded. Michael looked her over before sighing and handing it to Liz.

"Thank you," Liz replied opening up the map and looking it over. For a few seconds she tried to read what it said before sighing in frustration and moving over to the nearest vent for light. "That’s better."

No one said anything as the minutes passed until Liz ran a hand through her hair and looked down into the room the vent led into for the fifth time.

"Well?" Michael asked.

Maria shot him a dark look and then looked back at Liz. "Find anything chica?"

"Well you weren’t necessarily wrong. We’re supposed to go into that room and then keep going." Liz handed the map to Isabel who took it and folded it up, before placing it in her pocket.

"I told you I didn’t get us lost!" Maria said triumphantly, pinching Michael’s arm before moving towards the vent.

Serena got there first and slowly examined the room before sighing. "I think there could be a problem with that theory."

"Yeah?" Kyle asked.

"Yeah. See that room?" Serena nodded towards the vent. The others crowded around to look through.

Michael shrugged. "What about it?"

"I don’t see a problem with it," Isabel added.

"That’s Khivar and Tess’s room," Serena stated. "Everyone see the problem now?"

Author's Notes

Elena: You know what? You are the Queen of Quotes! LOL. I *swear*! I've never seen anyone have so many quotes in a reply before. LOL. You know I love you ( ;-) ). Thanks so much for bumping this. And I just have one question. What the heck did this mean?!?
JBehrsGurl wrote:Dude! Why was that exactly what Ask Zandar would say right before he answered your question!? Hahahaha!
*tackles*

Trude: Did I ever tell you I like your sig pic and your avatar? No? Because I do! For some reason... I just really, really, really like 'em. Could it have something to do with the couple?? LOL. Thanks for the feedback chica. I appreciate it!

neodragon39: Hmm.... okay you won't *really* find out what they did in the vent until a later part, probably the next one or something when Maria talks to Liz aout it... LOL, I'll explain it, I promise! Thanks for reading this!

Jess: My sis! Haha, where are you biatch?!? ;-) You never seem to be on anymore. I miss you!!! *hug* And I need to talk to you about this fic. Are you forgetting you're the brains behind this whole thing. You're like... my freaking muse man! Love you!

roswellluver: Okay, LOL, the reason I made him have a name change or something is because Kivar is so *weird*! I'm not trying to be name-ist or anything... but it really is. LOL, and it's so random, so I was like "There has to be a story or something behind this." Thanks for the feedback!!

Gerry Carr: Haha, roles reversed. Now you're feedbacking me. Weird! LOL. I tried to bump your fic earlier, but I couldn't find it! Most likely I just spaced somehow and missed it. *slaps forehead* Was it moved?? Oh, and I loved Labyrinth too. My sister formed some sort of strange crush on David Bowie afterwards... He was all right... but uh... no. LOL. His eyes really freak me out!! Oh, by the way, I loved your little smilies. LOL. Especially the Olympics one! And I'm glad you're liking this. I'm all excited now. LOL, it's always cool when someone I feedback starts to feedback me. :-D

Itzstacie: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback!!

Roswelllostcause: Dang, there isn't *too* much Serena/Kyle in this, although I hope you'll still like it! LOL. Thanks for your feedback!

Krista: *hugs* CHICA! LOL. Man oh Man, you still bump like I remember! LOL. I hope you get to read this soon and I hope you get your computer/internet set up at your home soon. How was the move and everything? You're braver than me. LOL. I couldn't move right now. Go to a new school? Heck no! LOL. Thanks for the feedback, it's so awesome that you're still interested in this, even though I'm kind of turning it into crap.

Kay: Yay! You approve the Stargazer-ness too!! LOL. I was going to make Alex sort of a rich boy at first, and he'd be rich-boy 'Data' type, and then have him and Isabel hook up slowly but then I realized... Nah, I'd rather have them all "in love" right from the start! LOL. Thanks for your feedback!

Pheebs: *sigh* It's true. I did steal a quote from Bring It On. BUT SO DID YOU! Haha! LOL, so I'm no longer the only guilty one. *sticks tongue out* You're in the dog house with me. Haha!! ;-) Thanks for the feedback Sunshine!

Okie dokie, I'm done with the babble now. (After collective sigh from readers) WHAT?? It wasn't even that long!

Now I know I need sleep. LOL. I'm being cranky and goofy and weird. Here's the new part, even though it's lacking. I think I rushed myself to get something out to you guys even though it wasn't my best. Sorry! Tell ya what... I'll make sure my next chapter is long and good!! Kay?? *hugs* You guys are awesome!!!

Chapter 10
</center>

“Well?” Michael asked.

Maria shot him a dark look and then looked back at Liz. “Find anything chica?”

“Well you weren’t necessarily wrong. We’re supposed to go into that room and then keep going.” Liz handed the map to Isabel who took it and folded it up, before placing it in her pocket.

“I told you I didn’t get us lost!” Maria said triumphantly, pinching Michael’s arm before moving towards the vent.

Serena got there first and slowly examined the room before sighing, “I think there could be a problem with that theory.”

“Yeah?” Kyle asked.

“Yeah. See that room?” Serena nodded towards the vent. The others crowded around to look through.

Michael shrugged. “What about it?”

“I don’t see a problem with it,” Isabel added.

“That’s Kivar and Tess’s room,” Serena stated. “Everyone see the problem now?”

<center>***</center>

“I got!” Maria exclaimed.

“Here we go,” Michael mumbled.

Maria rolled her eyes. “Look, we’ve been - I’d love to call it sitting but it’s more like crouching - in this small, incredibly dirty, vent system for at least fifteen minutes trying to figure out where we go from here. This is my plan; I use my handy cell phone and call the police. They come, and like always, bust up the party. Then we all get to go home, okay?” After a few moments of silence she frowned and turned to Liz. “Are they in shock because my plan is so brilliant? I like my plan. I want to use my plan. I vote my plan!”

“Before we start voting let’s talk about other ‘plans’, because I like mine. Hear me out; Tess and Khivar aren’t in the room, so there is no problem. We go in there, keep going to wherever the treasure is, then call the police and let them bust up the Dunn-Kelly’s, then we can go back to Roswell and pay Pierce off so all of our houses aren’t torn down, and then we can all go home. Who likes that plan better?” Isabel asked.

Alex, Kyle, Max, and Michael raised their hands.

“Majority rules,” Isabel said.

“These people are convicted felons okay, they’ve killed people-”

“Hey!” Serena said in defense.

“Sorry, but people have tended to end up dead when your family comes around, so deal with it,” Maria replied. “And I don’t feel like dying tonight, okay? I want to live to see a bath. I want to live to the point where I don’t smell like I crawled through a vent system looking for a dead alien’s treasure.”

“Who said anything about dying?” Kyle asked.

“Maria, just relax,” Liz said soothingly.

“No, wait… did I lose the memo on dying? Did everyone but me get the memo on dying?” Kyle continued.

“Yeah cheese head, you too scared to keep going?” Michael taunted.

“You wish I would fall for that one again lamebrain,” Maria shot back.

“How are we dying?!?”

“Yeah right! Why would I want you to stick around?” Michael asked.

“Think back about twenty minutes and I’m sure something will… come up,” Maria stated. It seemed as if Michael’s eyes narrowed even more.

“Dream. On!” he spat.

“Whatever-”

“CHILDREN! ENOUGH!” Serena crossed her arms across her chest. “Now listen, I know I am older and more mature than you but come on… we’re only a few years apart in age and I can’t even remember being this annoying. Look, as much as I hate my ‘family’ right now, I can’t turn them in. I came with you to get the hell out of here, and if you want my help in finding this treasure, then I’m all yours to repay you for helping me out of this dump. But, I will not handle any more stupid little lust fights,” she shot Maria and Michael a glare, “or popularity issues… or money issues or whatever,” this time she looked straight at Isabel, Liz, and Maria. “So I will say this once; you’ve got ten minutes to work your shit out and then we are going into that room. Got it?”

No one spoke.

“I said, got it?”

“Fine,” Isabel replied icily.

Michael rolled his eyes. “Consider it over and done with.”

“Already did,” Maria snapped.

“Whatever,” Liz said.

There were a few more moments of awkward silence before Kyle’s face broke into a smile. “That’s the way I like my women… feisty!”

<center>***</center>

“All right, this is how it’s going to go. Kyle and I will go first. From what you told me Michael, we have to go into the room straight across from Khivar and Tess’s, so we’ll run across, make sure the coast is clear, and if it is, I’ll give a low whistle once. If not, I’ll give a high whistle once, okay?” Serena asked.

The others nodded their consent.

“Okay, we’re going to do it in pairs,” Kyle said. “Alex and Maria, Max and Isabel, and then Liz and Michael. Liz, Michael, you two have to make sure to put the vent back in place and to shut Khivar and Tess’s door. We don’t want them to notice anything different. And we have to hurry here people. If I see you slacking behind I’m not gonna be a happy Valenti.”

“Yes sir, Sheriff Junior, Sir,” Isabel joked.

“Get serious, Evans,” Kyle snapped.

“Yeah… sorry,” Isabel mumbled.

“Are we all ready?” Kyle asked.

“Yeah.”

“Sure.”

“Go ahead.”

“Can I hear a little enthusiasm?” Kyle asked.

Isabel shrugged. “Ask Liz… she’s the cheerleader.”

“Cute,” Liz snapped. She turned back to Kyle and asked sarcastically, “I’ll spell your name for you Kyle... It’s K-Y-Y-A-L-L, right? Because you know… being a cheerleader, I‘m just so confused.”

“Isabel, cut it out!” Max snapped.

“God, fine. Sorry. Get a sense of humor will you?” Isabel moved away from Alex who was frowning at her. “Can we just do this?”

With a sigh, Serena pulled the vent down, careful to leave the screws nearby so Liz and Michael could easily find them. “Let’s go people.”

<center>***</center>

Serena lowered herself from the vent, letting Kyle help her down. For a second, Serena’s eyes met Kyle’s and it was as if they were in a movie, and someone had pressed the ‘pause’ button. Serena licked her lips and began to massage Kyle’s arm. When his hand slid up her back, she shook herself out of it.

“Uh we should…”

“Are you sure?” Kyle asked, disappointment in his voice.

“No, I mean we could always make out until my brother in law walks in here with a gun-”

Kyle cut Serena off. “Yeah, we should go.”

Serena bit her lip to keep from laughing as he made his way over to the door and pressed his ear against it. When he didn’t hear anything, he quietly opened the door, peeking his head out. He turned around and gave Serena a thumbs up. The coast was clear.

Looking up Serena nodded to Alex. He began to lower himself while Serena hurried to catch up with Kyle who was already across the hallway.

They had to hurry. Who knew when Tess or Kivar would need something from their room?

<center>***</center>

“Maria, you ready?” Alex called. It had been a few minutes since Serena and Kyle had left and a minute ago Kyle had motioned for Maria and Alex to come over across the hall.

Maria sighed and turned to Liz. Liz immediately wrapped her arms around Maria. “You’ll be fine. Don’t be such a drama queen, okay?”

“Psh. Me, a drama queen? Never!” Maria replied.

Alex held his hands out for Maria to come down. She closed her eyes for a second and then began to lower herself. When Alex gripped her hips to help her down, Isabel began to shoot daggers at the two. Max elbowed her in the side. “Relax. Everyone knows he’s crazy about you.”

“I know… I just don’t like it, okay? He’s my Alex, and I like it that way,” Isabel mumbled. Max grinned at the protectiveness in her voice. He heard a low whistle from Serena, and then another one. All right, he and Isabel were up.

“Come on,” he said. Isabel sighed and hurried to the vent opening.

<center>***</center>

Michael and Liz watched as Isabel and Max left the vent system. They were the only two left. Michael could feel Liz shooting looks at him so he turned to her. “What?”

“What?” Liz asked back.

“You were staring.”

“I was not,” Liz denied. “You’re kind of full of yourself, aren’t you?”

“I am not!“ Michael hissed, careful to keep his voice down. She laughed a little at the way her comment pissed Michael off.

“And you were too staring!” Michael added.

Liz rolled her eyes. “I had something stuck in my eye.”

“Oh I’m sure,” Michael mumbled. “Look, let’s just go, okay?”

“We can’t. Serena didn’t give us the signal,” Liz stated, pushing Michael away from the vent. He growled and went to move her but the two of them stopped when Max came rushing towards the room. He put one finger over his lips and then shut the door, quickly and quietly. After a second, Liz and Michael heard the sound of his own door closing.

“What the hell?” She mumbled.

“Why’d Max shut the door?” Michael asked.

“I think we should shut the vent,” Liz suggested.

“I think we agree on something,” Michael replied, quickly going for the vent and pulling it closed. Liz handed him a screw and the two managed to loosely put the screws in a little, enough to make sure the vent didn’t fall and give away their location.

After a few seconds the door to the room opened and a blonde was shoved in, against the wall, the door shut firmly behind her. The blonde giggled as the guy, whoever had her up against the wall, licked at the side of her neck while inching her skirt up.

“Oh. My. God,” Liz whispered.

“Pookie!” Tess gasped, as his wondering hand rubbed her thighs. “We shouldn’t.”

“Please don’t…” Liz continued, unable to tear her eyes away. “Please just leave.”

Michael put one hand over her mouth and the other over her eyes. “Shhh.”

Liz struggled out of his grip and groaned when she heard ‘Pookie’ reply.

“I want you.”

“Like that’s romantic,” Michael whispered, rolling his eyes. Liz shot him a look and he glared at her. “You’re staring again.”

“Look, shouldn’t we… go back through the vent a little, so they don’t hear us or see us or anything?” Liz asked.

“If you shut up they won’t hear us,” Michael hissed. It wasn’t likely though, because Michael had to strain to hear Liz as it was because the two of them were talking so quietly.

“I just… this is really uncomfortable,” Liz said, nodding to the couple. By now, the two of the were almost naked… or at least Tess was.

Michael looked down the vent system and back at Tess and Khivar. “All right, move quietly.”

Liz shot him a smile of thanks before making her way around the corner of the vent a little, and then moved so she was facing Michael when he came and leaned against one of the vent walls.

“So…” Liz began, to block out the moans and groans from beyond the vents.

“So…” Michael replied.

“Um… do you like my friend?” Liz asked.

“So you like my friend?” Michael asked at the same time.

“No!” Michael said quickly.

“Yes,” Liz mumbled.

With a roll of his eyes, Michael leaned his head back against the wall. “That was weird.”

“Yeah, a little,” Liz said. After a few more minutes of awkward silence and the occasional cries from Tess, Liz asked, “Have you… uh… read any good books lately?”

“Ulysses,” Michael replied, his eyes still closed.

“Oh, yeah?” Liz asked.

“Yep. My dad used to read it to me when I was kid. It’s my favorite book.”

“So, are you and your dad close?” Liz asked.

“Yep,” Michael replied.

“Oh… that’s nice,” Liz sighed and looked around the vent. She finally began to try to untangle her hair. When Michael’s next words hit her, she froze.

“Does Maria get along with her dad?”

Liz took her hand from her hair. “Not really.”

“Why not?” Michael asked, leaning up and opening his eyes to look at Liz.

“It’s sort of hard to get along with someone who just sends you letters every year on your birthday.”

Michael frowned. He’d always thought, like everyone else, that Maria’s family was happily living in Roswell. No one wondered why Mr. DeLuca spent so much time away from Roswell or why Mrs. DeLuca flirted with some of the single men in town, mostly Sheriff Valenti. He’d have thought that Maria would have said something when he kept bugging her about her dad. He wondered why she didn’t. He turned to ask Liz, but as he did the noises from the room stopped.

“We… uh, we should probably go see if they left or not,” Liz said.

Michael nodded. “Yeah, sure. You go ahead and lead the way.”

Liz raised one eyebrow before shrugging and rounding the corner of the vent. “Whatever you say Romeo.”

Michael sighed, women were a pain in the neck. Liz Parker was making fun of him, Maria DeLuca was driving him insane, and he hadn’t even done anything to deserve it. Could life get any worse?

Kay, here's the new chapter!!!!

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter 11
</center>

“That’s disgusting,” Maria stated.

“I agree,” Serena replied. They had heard sounds from above them, and then heard Khivar’s offer of going back to their bedroom. Max had already been running across the hall like crazy to wave for Liz and Michael to close up the vents. As soon as he had closed the door to the room the others were in, Tess’s giggles and moans were heard.

They had yet to stop.

“That’s disgusting!” Maria said again.

“And for the fifth time, Serena will agree with you,” Isabel replied, impatience in her voice. “When will they give this up?”

“From what I heard, he’s almost there,” Kyle replied, leaning against the door. “Wait… I think… I think she is too… hmm… no wait, that’s Frankie. Damn, he moans like a girl!”

Shaking his head Kyle turned to the others. “Do you guys want to hear this?” At the looks of disbelief he stood straight. “What? Come on, you know you want in on this!”

“I really, really, really don’t,” Maria replied.

“Psha, Alex, my man!” Kyle said, nodding his head at him.

Shooting Isabel a glance, Alex held his hands up. “Count me out, dude.”

Kyle looked to Isabel. “What about you-” At the glare she sent him he looked to Max. “Max, my man!”

Max rolled his eyes. “I’ve heard enough moaning from the two of them, thanks.”

Kyle coughed, “PRUDE!” He coughed again, and waved his hand around. “Dust.”

“Don’t even ask me,” Serena stated.

“Duh, she’s your sister. That’d be incest eavesdropping! What do you all think I am, a pervert? Geez!” Kyle shook his head and went back to the door. “Man, Liz and Michael have front row seats to that.”

“It’s called porn, Kyle. I know you have it,” Isabel stated. By now she, Maria, Serena, Alex, and Max were all sitting down around the room, and Kyle was leaning against the door. The room was small… smaller than a bedroom, but bigger than a closet. It had a door leading out to another room, but no one had risked opening it without Michael’s translations, and without Liz and Michael.

“I’m only listening now to make sure the coast is clear!” Kyle defended.

“So cute… yet so…” Serena mumbled.

“Mentally slow?” Isabel offered, picking her head off Alex’s shoulder. “’Special’?”

Kyle snorted, “I’m risking my life here for you, Miss Evans. So I would think you would appreciate my help.”

“You’re right Kyle,” Isabel said. “I don’t appreciate you enough. You are being a great watch dog. Well… not so much a watch dog… a listening dog, I guess.”

“A big dog, right? Like a Great Dane?” Kyle asked.

Max snorted. “Nah, Valenti, we were thinking along the lines of a poodle.”

“A poodle? Number one; my hair is not like that, number two; hell, and number three; no.” Kyle turned towards Serena. “I’m not a poodle right?”

“Of course not,” she mumbled, waving her hand. “Have they stopped yet?”

Kyle leaned back into the door. “I can’t tell-” He jumped back, tripping over Serena’s outstretched legs and crashing to the ground, his head hitting Maria’s thigh and his arms thrown across Isabel’s skirt and ending on Alex’s jeans. After a second, Kyle shook his head and looked down at his legs which were thrown over Serena’s. He grinned up at her and shot her a wink, and then lifted his head from Maria’s lap. She was clapping at hand over her mouth to keep from laughing and Kyle looked up and saw why. He had landed diagonally, his legs with Serena’s, the closest person to him, and his hands near Alex’s crotch, the farthest person from him.

“Holy shit!” Alex and Kyle cried at the same time. Alex rolled away while Kyle pulled his hands back.

“What the hell is your problem?!” Alex hissed.

“Hey, you all had your legs in my way. I bet you planned me landing in your lap like that,” Kyle accused. He turned to Isabel. “I’m sorry you had to find out this way, but Alex has got a crush on me.”

Isabel rolled her eyes. “You wouldn’t have fallen if you hadn’t of jumped back-”

“I jumped back because Frankie and Tess left the room. Y‘all have been wasting time talking about Alex‘s sexuality.”

For a moment there was silence.

“Definitely a poodle,” Alex stated.

<center>***</center>

Michael hopped down from the vents as soon as he was sure that Tess and Khivar had left the room. He put his hands in his pockets and waited for Liz to join him on the ground. He overlooked the room and then turned back to face Liz who had her arms folded over her chest, annoyed.

“What?” Michael snapped.

Liz rolled her eyes. “No, of course I don’t need help, Michael. I can get out by myself, don’t bother yourself.”

Michael groaned. “You chicks! Damn, how many years do you all spend bitching and complaining about how women are underestimated and thought of as useless? And you all complain that men would rather have you be seen and not heard. Maybe it’s because all you did was bitch behind the scenes.”

Liz stared at him incredulously. “That was the single most sexist thing I’ve ever heard.”

“Whatever,” Michael stretched his hand out towards Liz and waited as she debated about it. “Think about it like this… you’re in a skirt, and if you don’t take my hand you’re going to get dirty.”

Liz placed her hand in his. “First of all, it’s a skort; there are shorts underneath. Second, I’m already dirty. I’m only letting you help me so you can feel all macho.”

“You’re such a kind person,” Michael replied.

“Max likes me,” Liz shot back.

Michael rolled his eyes. “Give me a break.”

“He does!” Liz stated. “And he would have offered his hand to help me!”

Liz jumped to the ground and let Michael’s hand go. She wiped her skort and picked a corner of the vent up. With Michael’s help, they pushed it back into place.

“Well, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m not Max.”

“Believe me, I’ve noticed!”

The door to the room jiggled for a second and then Isabel poked her head around the corner of it. “What the hell are you two doing?”

“Michael liked the color of the wall. We were just trying to figure out what it was. Let’s get your opinion; Dull Brown, Tacky Brown, or Peeled and Aging Brown?”

“All of the above. Now come on, and let’s go before the two come back for another round,” Isabel replied.

“Oh God. Was Kyle listening?” Michael asked.

“Every moan and squeal,” Isabel replied.

“So was Michael,” Liz stated, running through the doorway when Michael yelled back, “I was NOT!”

<center>***</center>

“Liz,” Max stated, rushing forward to wrap his arms around her when she walked forward into the room. She smiled back and hugged him.

“Are you all okay?” Liz asked, looking around at the others.

“Peachy keen. This place… better than a Hilton,” Maria spat out.

Liz sighed. Well, Maria had gotten no more optimistic about their current situation. Liz frowned, what was their current situation? So far they had crawled through vents, discovered Serena - who Liz had yet to think more about, snuck through rooms and had risked the possibility of somehow getting shot or killed. Liz had to wonder what she had to be optimistic about as well. Then again, she had Max, and she had sort of left Maria to deal with it all by herself.

Maria’s long blonde hair had been thrown back into a bun, but now half of it was hanging down and out. Her jean jacket and pink shirt were covered in dust, and her jeans weren’t much better.

Liz gently pushed herself away from Max and moved towards her best friend. “Thanks for sticking with me Maria.”

Maria shrugged and threw her arm around Liz. “What can I say? You’re my best friend. It’s what I do,” she leaned in so only Liz would hear, “and the Louis Vuitton bag I want is on sale at the mall.”

Isabel rolled her eyes. Max, next to her, noticed and nudged her arm slightly. She shot him a glare and then turned back to Liz and Maria. “The mall… I go there.”

Liz nudged Maria with her foot, so Isabel wouldn’t see. Maria sighed. “We should all go sometime.”

Alex grinned, glad that Isabel was playing nice. It wasn’t that she was a bitch or mean… she was Isabel and he loved her for it. She just had a tendency to hold grudges against people, especially those who she felt had wronged her, or were getting ‘too close‘ to Alex. He smirked… he had to admit it, it had felt pretty good when he learned that she was jealous when Maria and Liz talked to him. He knew Isabel loved him, and he knew that they’d probably get married some day… they were meant to be. But there were times he just needed to feel assured that she was still truly interested in him. I mean, she was Isabel Evans, the goddess of Roswell… all money aside. She was tall, curvy, and beautiful. And man, when she smiled, Alex would rather become a bum on the side of the street than to make her frown.

Isabel turned towards him, as if reading his mind. She shot him a grin and held out her hand for him. He grabbed it and laced his fingers through hers, and then raising her hand and dropping a kiss to it.

“Max, how can you stand that? I mean, damn!” Kyle stated, shifting on his feet.

“I think it’s sweet,” Serena replied. “They’re really cute together.”

“Cute and sweet is nothing like these two. I crawled in on them having s-e-x in the vents!”

“S-e-x?” Max asked, spelling it out in his head. Realization fell over his face and he turned to look at Isabel and Alex. “SEX? YOU HAD SEX WITH MY BABY SISTER? I’M GONNA KILL YOU, WHITMAN-”

“Max, no!” Liz grabbed Max’s shirt, while Isabel jumped in front of Alex. “Baby sister? I am like, two seconds younger than you!”

“We didn’t have sex!” Alex shot out, trying to push Isabel back behind him. Unfortunately for him she was having none of it.

“Kyle saw you!” Max snapped, struggling out of Liz’s grasp only to have Maria grab on as well.

Dayum! Michael, grab your girlfriend and get her out of the way, this is gonna be so cool!” Kyle mumbled, jumping up.

Serena groaned and put a hand over her eyes. “He’s really cute, he’s really cute, he’s really cute, he’s really cute, he’s really cute…”

“He wishes I was his girlfriend!” Maria replied, shooting Kyle a glare and ignoring Serena’s mumblings. She slapped the back of Max’s head, and yanked on the back of his jacket. “Knock it off you big doof!”

“All Kyle saw in that tunnel was me and Alex talking. Talking, nothing else, not that that would be any of your business,” Isabel hissed. “I mean, God! Even if Alex and I did have sex it would be none of your business.”

Max had begun to calm down at the beginning of the speech but swung to face Alex and the end of it. “Did you have sex with my sister?”

“Dude-”

“Alex, don’t even answer that question, it’s none of his damn business!” Isabel crossed her arms over her chest.

Michael was leaning against the wall, watching the entire soap opera act out. His eyes focused on Maria, who he had been watching since he and Liz had walked into the room and a small, discreet smile covered his face. He had to admire her for jumping into the situation so quickly, and holding Max back. Granted Liz was helping her, but still… she really was a pixie.

Michael blocked out the sounds of Kyle urging the two to fight, Serena and Liz telling Kyle to shut up, Alex and Isabel telling Max to back off, and Maria glaring at both Max, and Kyle. His eyes once again stuck to Maria and he looked her up and down. He started at her sneakers, then her jeans, her belt, her shirt, her jacket, her necklace, her hair, her chin… and his eyes froze on her lips. Oh, those lips. He could practically taste her lip gloss, peach… He licked his lips as if he had just kissed her, which wasn’t completely far from the truth. In all actuality it had been mere hours since they had been in the front of the tunnel together-

In the tunnel…

"Wow is this conversation getting us no where."

"I think it’s succeeded in pissing you off so I’d say it’s earned its worth," Michael said with a shrug.

"Whatever. I don’t know how I go stuck with you, but-" Maria stopped as she turned the corner and stared at the dead end in front of her.

Michael began to laugh. "So… did you ditch Geography too, or what?”

Maria spun around to face him. “What the hell is your problem? Hmm? I’m here helping you out… so
you aren’t kicked out of your home and all you can do is insult me! I mean… damn! Were you born this rude or did they teach it to you somewhere?”

Michael opened his mouth, and Maria held up a hand. “Yeah… just shut up okay? I’m not done yet. I almost died in a car accident to save your friend, granted it was Sean’s fault and Max was hurt more than Liz and I were, but that’s besides the point! I’ve crawled through vents, hidden from psychos who have escaped from jail and probably want to kill me
or worse, saved strangers who Kyle just wants to bone, and, AND I’ve had to put up with you and Isabel bitching and complaining and treating Liz and me like… freaks who are no help at all, for the past couple of hours. So, I think I deserve a goddamn apology and maybe a little bit of credit for not completely spazzing out-”

Michael had been ready the first time to ask Maria to just forget about it. After the first couple of sentences he was wishing he hadn’t even spoken to her at all. Five seconds ago he had lost all sense, because there was no other explanation as to why he acted like he did. He had grabbed Maria by her shoulders and his mouth had come crashing down on hers. For a minute, Maria froze, not expecting the “attack”. Michael lips softened and Maria’s arms slowly slid up his back and around his neck. Michael’s own hands were cupping both of Maria’s cheeks and softly rubbing them. His tongue came out to lick her lips and Maria instantly opened her mouth in response. Something in Michael caused the kiss to turn more passionate, more aggressive, and he sucked on Maria’s bottom lip before letting her tongue explore the inside of his mouth. He tasted her lip gloss, peaches, and he craved more of it. She pulled his head down harder, as she explored his mouth. He thought he had groaned at how Maria made him feel, how she met his passion and still was completely gentle, but he found out it had been Maria who had made the sound.

Michael broke away for air with a gasp. When Maria opened her eyes slowly, she licked her lips. “Michael-”

His head came down again, to shut her up; to not ruin the moment. The kiss seemed like it was their first, the amount of ardor more extreme, more obvious. This time, Maria broke the kiss.

She leaned back, and her hands moved to his shoulders. “Michael?”

It was a question. He froze, and licked his lips. He bit back a grin at the taste of peaches. His hands rubbed Maria’s hips, and then he pulled them back and stuffed them into his pockets. Her hands remained on his shoulders.

“Michael?” she asked again.

“You were talking too much, I had to do something to shut you up,” he blurted. “It was nothing.”

Maria stiffened, and slowly pulled her hands back. “The kiss didn’t feel like nothing.”

“Hey, sorry blondie if you got the wrong impression. I mean, I know I’m hot stuff and that rich girls like to sometimes rebel and go for the guy from the wrong side of the tracks-”

A crack echoed through the air and Michael slowly turned his head back to look at Maria. He placed a hand over his cheek, which she had just hit.

“That was to shut you up,” Maria snapped, her voice low. She crawled over to the corner and sat down, crossing her arms over her chest. She didn’t look back at him until the others arrived.

Michael snapped out of the memory when he saw Serena standing between Max and Isabel, her glare set on Max.

“¡Bueno, BASTANTE! ¡Esta conducta pueril ha pasado lo suficiente y estoy harto del bullshit macho! ¡Max, y Kyle, usted ambas necesidad un bueno pateando como!” Serena hissed.

Maria whistled.

“What’d she say?” Kyle asked.

“Basically she said this fighting is immature, and that the macho bullshit needs to stop,” Maria replied. “Oh! She also said that you and Max need an ass whooping!”

“I didn’t know you knew Spanish,” Isabel said to Maria.

“Did she really say I needed a Campbell’s can of whoop ass?” Kyle asked, pouting.

“My dad taught me some of it before-” Maria shrugged. “He taught me it whenever he had time. You learn a language better when you’re younger.”

“Did you really say that?” Kyle asked again, turning to Serena once he realized that Maria was ignoring him.

Serena sighed and shook her head. “We’re wasting time is all.”

Alex was shooting glares at Kyle. “I think you need your ass kicked. And I wouldn’t mind doing it either.”

Kyle rolled his eyes. “Please, Whitman. I’m on the wrestling team.”

“Well then I’ll tell everyone about the ‘Truffle Shuffle Kyle Style’ dance!” Alex threatened.

Michael coughed. “Holy shit! I had forgotten about that!”

Kyle’s eyes were wide. “That ain’t cool! You swore an oath that you wouldn’t say anything! You all promised.”

“Hey, can the nineteen year old be included, please?” Serena asked.

“Us too!” Liz added.

“No! That is… secret! Okay? And we’ve been in this room for too long already. Someone is bound to come back in here. Plus, my dad is going to start looking all over for me once he realizes I’m gone and we’ve been gone a couple of hours. So Michael, get that damn map out and tell us where we have to go.”

No one moved.

“Michael, map!” Kyle stated.

“I agree that we have to get moving,” Serena said, “but I’m hearing that story later.”

“Whatever,” Kyle sighed.

Michael flipped open the map and then looked around the room. “Well there’s only one other door in here, and according to this, we go in there.”

“Okay, then let’s go,” Max said. He shot his sister and Alex a look before taking Liz’s hand and walking towards the door. Serena frowned. She felt as if she was forgetting something… Max yanked on the door handle and looked around for a light switch, the room was completely black. He moved to take a step into the next room, and Serena’s eyes widened. She cried out his name at the same time as Liz. Max had no time to react, he fell straight through the doorway, pulling Liz down with him.

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter 12
</center>

“Oh holy crap,” Serena mumbled. She ran her hands through her hair. “Oh holy crap. Oh holy crap. Oh holy fucking crap.”

“There is no floor. Why is there no floor in that room? Did they fall?”

“Hold on,” Michael put his hand under his chin. “If someone goes into a room with no floor, do they fall?”

Maria shot Michael an annoyed loo., “Excuse me for being worried about my friend, okay?”

“Serena, why is there no floor here?” Isabel asked.

“Of course you are. You’re a drama queen. If a cat was caught in a tree you’d be worried,” Michael shot back.

“That’s what we call compassion. God, where are your feelings? And how many times do I have to ask you what your problem is? Look, I have a new solution…I’m only here for my friend, you and I don’t have to talk to each other. So how about we just forget the other is here?” Maria replied. She had been stuck with Michael Guerin for longer than she’d ever have liked, and all she wanted was to get away from his sarcastic remarks, his pessimistic attitude, and his lean, sexy body- No, not the last one. Just the first two. He’s not sexy, he’s not sexy, he’s not sexy. Crap, who was she kidding? The boy was fine! It just sucked his attitude ruined it.

“Max? Buddy? You all right?” Alex called.

“Liz?” Serena called, standing beside the doorway.

“I think they’re making out,” Kyle stated.

“Oh please! They wouldn’t do that now,” Isabel replied with a roll of her eyes. She pulled her hair back into a ponytail.

“Two words Isabel,” Kyle held up two fingers, “Alex and vents.”

Isabel had kept a cool, emotionless face when Kyle had started speaking. By the time he was finished she was between Alex and Serena surrounding the doorway. She put her hands around her mouth and shouted, “MAX! If you are making out with Liz, I swear to God I will kill you!”

When she got no response, Isabel looked over her left shoulder and met Serena’s gaze. “How’d you know that there was no floor there? You started yelling before they fell.”

“This was supposed to be my ‘room’ when we first came here, but the floor was in really bad condition. Nicholas fell through it when he walked over it and they moved me to the other room you found me in. I’d completely forgotten about it until now.”

“Well how long is the drop?” Alex asked.

“I don’t really know,” Serena shrugged apologetically. “I think it was maybe fifteen feet.”

“Oh then they are definitely making out.”

“You don’t know that,” Maria replied. “They’re probably knocked out or something.”

“When we were eight, Michael, Alex, and I dared Max to climb this tree. He got maybe… twenty feet up-”

Isabel rolled her eyes at the exaggeration. She remembered that. It hadn’t been twenty feet, it had only been like, ten…. all right, fifteen feet tops.

“-when a branch gave out on him and he fell down. Two seconds later, he jumped up with nothing broken. If that drop’s fifteen feet than he’s fine, and they’re both making out in the dark,” a thoughtful expression passed over Kyle’s face, “or Max is fine and Liz is knocked out and he’s coping a feel. Either way Max is getting some.” Kyle made his way over to the doorway and shouted, “WAY TO GO BUDDY!”

Maria was the first to smack the back of Kyle’s head before pulling him away from the doorway and taking his place. She searched her pockets for something to throw and pulled out her compact.

“Worried about your make up?” Michael asked.

Maria rolled her eyes. “I won’t even bother thinking up a reply.”

Michael hissed. “Yeah, don’t think. We wouldn’t want any miracles to happen or this would be some Touched By An Angel bullshit.”

“Show me an angel,” Maria leaned in to whisper the rest, “and he can touch me all he wants. So long as it isn’t you.”

“I played an angel in a play once,” Kyle stated, suddenly leaning in with Michael and Maria. Shocked by his presence, Maria jumped, sending the compact flying out of her hands. Her jump had also placed her closer to the edge of the doorway causing her to teeter, her arms flailing about. Michael’s hands shot out to grab her, but Maria had already begun to fall backwards. Seeing his hand, Maria grabbed for it and caught it.

“I’ve got you,” he muttered. Alex, Isabel, Kyle, and Serena were all gathered around the doorway.

“Hold on Maria,” Alex said. He looked to Michael. “Need a hand?”

“I’ve got it,” Michael replied. He began to pull Maria up. Thinking he could use her help, Maria put her feet against the wall and began to climb up, using the strength of her legs and Michael’s arms to get back up.

“OW! Okay, who threw the damn compact?”

“Liz?” Maria asked, turning to look down at the ground. Big mistake. Her turning caused her to lean further back, and she pulled Michael with her. Before anyone could grab Michael, he and Maria fell backwards into the room.

Maria’s shriek could be heard before there was a soft thump. No one said a word.

“Well… I hope they didn’t land on Max or Liz,”

<center>***</center>

Fifteen minutes earlier…

Max heard a groan from beside him and he forced himself to crawl onto his hands and knees. His left hand brushed against something. It was too dark for him to see, but he knew it was Liz. He held her hand tightly, hoping she wasn’t unconscious. He sighed in relief when she gripped his hand back.

“Are you okay?” Max asked.

Liz nodded and then realized Max couldn’t see her. “I’m fine. Why is it dark?” She looked up and saw some light coming from the doorway above them. “Is it just me or are you getting weird flashes of ‘go towards the light’ too?”

Max laughed. “We aren’t dead if that’s what you mean.”

“Oh I know. See if we were, I’d feel clean. And my back wouldn’t ache so much,” Liz went to grab a hold of Max’s hand. She felt dirt at first before her hand landed on his shoulder. He was lying on his right side. She felt his breath quicken as she moved her hand from his shoulder up to his neck, and then began to caress his jaw.

“What are you doing?” Max whispered.

“I figured that since I was ache-y and that we both fell… that you might be ache-y too,” Liz gently moved her hand down to his chest. She stopped and looked up. There wasn’t enough light so that she could see Max clearly, but she could see the outline of his body. And oh, what a freaking nice body it was. Liz pulled her hand away. “Unless you don’t ache?”

Max quickly pulled Liz’s hand back. “No, I ache. Lot’s of achy-ness here. I’m full of ache!”

Liz laughed and ran her hand down Max’s chest again. “Where was I?”

“Getting rid of my achy-ness?” Max guessed.

Liz laughed. “Right.”

“Except,” Max mumbled, grabbing Liz’s hand and moving it up to his lips. He opened his mouth, gently sucking two of her fingers into it. Liz moaned, causing a smile to grace Max’s face. He pulled Liz’s hand away. “Except I ache more here.”

It took Liz a minute to get her breath back. “Well… in that case-”

“In that case, we don’t need to be talking,” Max stated.

Liz wrapped her arms around her neck and began to pull herself towards him. “In that case don’t waste your breath.”

Before Max could reply, Liz pulled his head down to hers. It wasn’t their first kiss but it felt like it was. Max moaned and pulled Liz closer to him; she was never close enough. He bit her bottom lip, before gently sucking on it. Liz wasn’t in the gentle mood it seemed because she pulled her head back, ran her tongue over her lips and pushed herself up against Max, her lips once again covering his. It was breathtaking… which proved true once Max pulled away for air.

“That was-” he cut off with a smile.

Liz was about to reply when something hit her on the arm. “Ow!” she mumbled.

“Yeah,” Max whispered.

Liz rolled her eyes. “I said ‘ow’, not ‘wow’. Oh and by the freaking way,” with a look up at the doorway she yelled, “OW! Okay, who threw the damn compact?”

“Have they been yelling at us this entire time?” Max asked, looking up. He noticed that the light from the doorway was beginning to get blocked.

“Holy-” Liz mumbled, quickly covering her head. Max saw the darkened shapes getting closer to the both of them as well. They threw a compact, did they really have to throw bigger things too? Then again, what the hell was that big? He pulled Liz closer to him.

“SHIT!” Maria screamed, landing with a soft thud. She shook her head and opened her eyes. They quickly widened for a split second and then she was rolling to the side. Apparently just in time, because Michael, hands out in front of him, dropped onto the same spot Maria had just occupied.

“Going to whatever costs to get on top of me Guerin?” Maria snapped, coughing and sitting up. Man, she never thought she would think this, but she loved dirt. There was so much of it that it cushioned their fall. Otherwise she’d probably have five different broken things and Michael Guerin on top of her with no bruises.

“You could have cushioned my fall,” Michael groaned, rolling slowly over onto his back.

“The dirt did that, you moron. Besides, if you hadn’t let go of me we both wouldn’t have fallen-”

“Oh no, you do not get to put that one of me. I was trying to hold on to you-”

“Are you calling me fat?!?” Maria screamed.

“-but you kept wiggling and it was hard for me to keep my grip!” Michael shouted in his defense.

“Is that the line you use on all the girls? ‘You kept wiggling!’ Get new lines, buddy,” Maria got to her knees and rolled her neck around, cracking it. She began to move forward when her hand gripped a knee.

“Uh, who’s touching my knee?”

Maria’s hand shot off of Max’s knee like it was on fire. Behind her she heard Michael growl. She turned to shoot him a look, although that did no good since the small amount of light they had, just managed to show his outline. Damn what she wouldn’t give to know what he was thinking right now.

“Lizzie?” Maria asked. She heard movement, and as soon as Max and Liz broke apart she saw them a little more clearly. She launched herself at Liz.

Or who she thought was Liz.

“Maria!” Max shrieked, his voice going up a few pitches.

Michael yanked Maria back.

“Sorry Max, I thought you were Liz!” Maria apologized. She pulled for her arm, which Michael was still holding. After a few minutes of tugging he finally let go but he was semi blocking the way to Max.

“Okay, so where’s Liz?” Maria asked, having heard nothing from her since she and Michael had landed. Hah, landed as if they were aliens. Aliens… man she had spent way too much time in Roswell.

“Right here, listening to you and Michael flirt,” Liz coughed. “I mean fight, and you try to feel Max up.”

“We weren’t flirting!”

“Like hell she was feeling Max up!”

“I swear, Liz, she thought it was you!”

“So you wanted to cope a feel on me, Maria?” Liz asked, teasing.

Maria groaned. “You know, you had me worried sick. How come you didn’t reply when we were screaming to you?”

Silence.

“Max this goes for you too,” Michael added.

Silence.

“Well, I was sort of… knocked out! Yeah!” Max stated.

“Me too! Way knocked out. Unconscious. Just woke up when you hit me with the compact,” Liz said just as quickly as Max. Both sentences were rushed.

“You suck at lying, Liz,” Maria said, grinning. She crawled over to Liz’s side, sure that it was Liz, and put her arms around her, “but I’m glad you’re okay.”

Liz smiled and let go of Max’s hand to hug Maria back. “I’m glad you’re okay too. Sorry I kind of bailed on you.”

Maria shrugged. “It’s okay. Romeo sort of dragged you down.”

Max coughed. Maria rolled her eyes and pulled back from Liz.

“HEY! Are Liz and Maria kissing?” Kyle shouted, excited.

“Aren’t we supposed to be hiding from the Dunn-Kelly’s? All of this shouting will just draw them to us,” Liz said, her and Maria breaking apart.

Michael sighed. “Yeah. The others are just going to have to jump down here. This is where the map said we had to be anyways.”

<center>***</center>

“You want us to what?” Serena called.

“Jump. Down. Here.”

“Yeah, that’s what I thought you wanted us to do,” Serena groaned. She turned to look at Kyle, Isabel and Alex. “Well? Are we uh… jumping?”

Isabel nodded, completely confidant. “Yep.”

“So we’re just going to jump down fifteen feet?”

“Apparently,” Alex replied.

“And no one is worried about us getting hurt?” Serena shrieked. “Because maybe you all don’t realize this, but that is a fifteen foot drop!”

“Michael, Maria, Liz, and Max all fell down it and they’re perfectly fine. Besides I consider a broken leg better than a bullet in my brain,” Isabel said, “which is exactly what your family is going to do to the rest of us when they find us. Our only way out is jumping.”

“Well, when put like that…” Serena turned towards the doorway and looked down. She gulped, “Look, you guys go first and then you know, I’ll uh… I’ll go.”

Alex looked over at Isabel, one eyebrow raised. “We jumpin’?”

“Hell yeah!” Isabel replied, enthusiastic.

“Scared abut the drop?”

“Hell yeah!”

Alex laughed, and kissed Isabel’s temple. As he began to pull his head away she pulled it down, crushing her lips against his. His hands worked their way up her waist, before winding their way into her hair. With her eyes still closed, Isabel pulled away slowly, before licking her lips.

“Ready?” Alex asked. Isabel nodded and they both moved towards the doorway.

“We’re coming down now,” Alex called. He and Isabel shared another look before Alex grabbed for Isabel’s hand. Serena was watching them next to the doorway, and she began to shift from foot to foot.

Isabel looked over at Kyle who had been silently watching them. He gave her a cool smile, which should have been her first clue that something was up with him. “I’m right behind you guys.”

“Yeah, and then I’ll be right after him!” Serena said quickly.

With a roll of her eyes, Isabel tightened her grip on Alex’s hand, and quickly leaned in to kiss him, her free hand caressing his cheek. They pulled away and Alex grinned. “On the count of three.”

“One.”

Isabel reached out with her left hand and grabbed Serena’s wrist, pulling her closer.

“Two.”

“What? No, see guys, I’m going after you and Kyle,” Serena protested, trying to pull away.

“Three!”

“KYLE!” Serena screamed, looking over at him as Alex and Isabel both jumped into the room below, leaving Kyle alone and Serena, not by choice, falling through the air.

After a while he heard the others call for him to jump. All he could think to reply was, “Yeah. Freaking. Right.”

*<center>***</center>

"Kyle, would you just freaking jump?" Michael yelled.

"Why?"

"Because you're the only one who hasn't!" Isabel shouted back, thoroughly annoyed.

"Is this one of those 'if you're friends jumped off of a bridge, would you?' deals? Because that's peer pressure."

Isabel groaned and rubbed her temples.

"Let me," Alex said softly. He yelled back up to Kyle, "Look Kyle; Max, Liz, Maria, and Michael all fell down. Isabel, Serena, and I jumped down. If you cannonball down it won't be peer pressure because you are doing something completely different."

“Max, Liz, and Maria fell down, you and Isabel jumped down, but Serena and Michael were pulled down,” Kyle replied.

“Now I’m wishing we had pulled you down with us,” Isabel snapped.

Serena put one hand over Isabel’s mouth and shot her a look, still pissed that she had pulled her down. She called up to Kyle, “Kyle… sweetie… sexy, if you come down here I’ll make it worth your while.”

“Well crap!” Kyle groaned. Serena smirked. A minute later Kyle was on the ground with the rest of them.

“Thank God! Now, if we could find a little bit of light to read the map we can find out where we have to go now.”

“Is it just me or has a whole bunch of time seemed to have passed faster than it should have?” Liz asked.

“Wherever we end up it better have food,” Kyle groaned, standing up. Serena grinned at him before pulling him away from the others. She kept walking backwards until she felt her back hit the wall.

“Uh… so, you uh… you owe me something,” Kyle mumbled, not knowing what else to say after Serena pulled his body closer to hers.

“Yeah,” Serena whispered, her hands running over his back, through his hair, over his arms.

Kyle groaned as Serena’s lips met his in a gentle caress. She pulled away once, then twice, before meeting him in a kiss more aggressive then the first. Kyle was the one to pull away. He began to rest his head on Serena’s shoulder, and then his lips made a trail up her neck.

“I was the one who owed you,” Serena mumbled.

“Well, that was just a ‘thank you‘,” Kyle grinned.

Smiling back, Serena pulled him down for another kiss, this time opening her mouth when his tongue pressed for entrance.

“And that?” Kyle questioned.

“That was a ‘you’re welcome’.” Serena gave him a peck on the cheek before slipping out from underneath his arm. He sighed before leaning back against the wall, and stretching his arms out. Serena was such an amazing- piece of rope? Kyle turned his head to the side, and his hand clenched around it. While he had been stretching he had felt a piece of rope hanging from the side of the wall. Damn that was strange. Hey, maybe it would turn on a light! God, Isabel was going to love him.

“Hey guys,” Kyle called, “I found something!” He began to yank on the rope, until he heard a click and the room was lit up with lights.

“Uh, Kyle… what did you touch?” Alex asked softly, quickly pulling Isabel closer to him. While the room had been lit up in normal lights, there were also now red lights as well… laser beam lights like the kind you’d see guarding a famous diamond. They were blocking the way into what seemed to be a cave.

Kyle pointed to the rope he had recently pulled. As soon as he had moved the laser turned in his direction. It took all the reflexes Kyle had to pull his hand away before he got hit by the beam. Seconds later, the rope his index finger had been inches from, lit on fire from the lasers, which were now turned back to their original position.

Kyle closed his eyes for a second before opening them and letting out a single breath of relief. He slowly turned his head to the side, trying not to make any sudden movements. The lasers stayed where they were. His hands were clenched to his sides, his feet spread apart, and his mouth was in a grim line.

“Kyle,” Alex said, “don’t move… just stay there.”

“Does it look like I’m moving, Alex?!?” Kyle hissed, “Now that you bring it up though I would like to move. I’d like to go home instead of having to crawl through vents, jump down fifteen feet drops, and worry about getting shot at by laser beams! Fuck man, laser beams! Laser beams, laser beams, laser beams! LASER BEAMS! This shit only happens in Star Wars.”

“Listen Kyle, if we don’t do this than you have no home to go to! Okay? So just, just suck it up like the rest of us and we’ll figure these lasers out, there has to be a pattern or something,” Isabel replied, trying to sooth Kyle. Instead, it fueled his anger.

“The rest of you weren’t shot at by laser beams! How many times do I have to say the word laser? Is it just not hitting home for you?! Oh, and uh, pattern? Halloween is still months away, so save the Sherlock Holmes charade for then, all right?” Kyle almost ran his hands through his hair before he froze and instead clenched his fists.

“Hey, look, you can yell at me all you want, but remember who turned the laser beams on!” Isabel snapped, taking a step towards Kyle and throwing her hands in the air. It was then that the laser beams began to quickly turn towards her. Hearing them turn, everyone froze, especially Isabel. She shook with fear.

“Isabel!” Alex shouted, immediately moving into action, pushing Isabel out of the way and onto the floor. Seconds later, he hit the floor next to her, his hand covering part of his left shoulder. He looked up at Isabel, a small smile on his face, “You…oh-okay?”

Isabel nodded. “I’m fine.” Tears filled her eyes and she looked at his arm “Did you… did you get hurt? Were you hit?”

“I’m… gla… glad that you’re ‘kay,” Alex was able to mumble before his eyes closed and he passed out.

“Alex?” Isabel asked, her voice filled with worry. She gently shook her boyfriend again. “Alex?!” Shaking her head, Isabel shook him harder. “Alex?!? ALEX! C’mon Alex. Alex?” Wrapping her arms around him, Isabel looked over at her brother, who was as frozen as the rest of them. They were all afraid to set the beams off again, and now they had no clue what to do.

With a sob, Isabel laid her head on Alex’s chest, still slowly shaking him. “Alex, Alex, Alex, Alex, Alex, Alex, Alex…”

Chapter 13
</center>

No one moved, too afraid to activate the lasers. They all stood, watching helplessly as Alex lay unconscious on the ground, with Isabel at his side holding on to him for dear life.

A shaky breath passed through Liz’s lips. Tears welled in her eyes. Call her a drama queen, if you will, but the day had been all too much for her. All she had expected was a fun night with Maria… just one of their girl nights. Instead, she had gone on this crazy treasure hunt. She didn’t even know if she really believed there was a treasure. For all she knew, Isabel and the others were just setting her and Maria up, just having some ‘fun’ with the rich girls. It had been her theory all throughout the night. The ‘Dunn-Kelly’s’ were probably just some people from a different school who agreed to help Kyle, Isabel, and Michael out… Alex and Max just wouldn’t do something like that. When the lasers came on Liz knew that things were being pushed too far in their little ‘joke’. Liz knew though, as soon as Alex had been hit by a laser, that it wasn’t a game or joke. And that, terrified her.

“Is he okay?” Maria asked softly, the first one to speak since Isabel had stopped mumbling Alex’s name.

Isabel nodded. “I um…” her voice cracked. She coughed and looked up. “I think he just passed out. The beam grazed his shoulder… he should be okay.”

“You mean he fainted?” Kyle sputtered. When he noticed all of the glares being sent his way he coughed. “You know, I mean… I would probably have fainted too, you know… had I been hit.”

“Yeah, had you been hit!” Isabel snapped. She rubbed her forehead. “Sorry Kyle, I didn’t mean to snap at you.”

“It’s cool,” Kyle replied, hands in his pockets. For a few seconds there was an awkward silence before Maria drew a shaky breath.

“Right,” Maria mumbled. “Right… right. Okay, so basically this is where we’re at. We can’t move or else we’ll be fried by laser beams. Even if we did move we’d have no where to go unless we can all somehow climb up the fifteen foot wall. It’s ten at night… we have no food, we have no water, and we have no medical supplies for Alex when he does wake up-”

“We’re screwed, we get that,” Michael snapped, “but the last thing any of us needs is you panicking, all right? So calm down so we can all figure this out.”

“Figure what out?” Serena asked. She went to hold her hands up when Michael shot her a dark look, but glanced at where the lasers were instead. “I’m not being sarcastic, I’m being serious. Figure out what? Maria has a point… we can’t move.”

“No… we just can’t move slow.”

Everyone tried to look at Max, frozen in place. He had a concentrated look on his face. “The lasers can only move so fast. When Kyle first moved his hand, for instance, he had maybe three seconds before the lasers would have hit him. The only reason Alex was hit was because the major part of the three seconds was spent with us just staring at the lasers.”

“Did we just make a plan?” Serena asked.

“We’re supposed to sprint across the room and hope the lasers don’t hit us,” Michael sighed.

“Nice plan Max, but Alex wouldn’t stand a chance. I mean look at him,” Isabel looked down at her lap where Alex’s head was. The wound on his shoulder didn‘t look bad. Isabel had ripped a part of her jacket off and wrapped it around the wound. Alex had probably passed out from the shock. Once he woke up they would be able to tell if he really was fine, although none of them knew when he would wake up. For all they knew it could be an hour. They just had to get somewhere away from the lasers so the rest of the would be able to help him without the worry of getting hit.

“I know,” Max replied. He was looking at a piece of rope hanging from the ceiling all the way at the end of the room. He pointed towards it. “I’m guessing that that rope will turn the lasers off. So, only one of us has to get across.”

“Good plan!” Serena said enthusiastically. “Good plan! Now, who’s going to be the sprinter?”

“No problem, I can do it.”

Everyone looked over at Maria.

“What?”

No one spoke.

“Come on! I’m on the track team!” Maria stated.

“Yeah… but, I thought you just joined it to get your picture in the yearbook more than usual,” Isabel replied.

Maria rolled her eyes. “Look, I’m fast.”

“Well I’d feel better if I ran,” Michael stated.

“You would,” Maria snapped. “I know I’m faster than you, okay? So I’m going to run.”

“No, you aren’t.”

“Yes, I am.”

“Are not!”

“Are too!”

“Are not!”

“Are too!”

“Are not!”

“YES. I. AM!” Maria yelled.

“Are not-” Michael groaned as Maria quickly turned and made a run across the dirt floor. The lasers trailed after her, leaving a dark burn mark in the ground. She began to zigzag in her running as the lasers nearest to the cave began to aim for her. She was ten feet away from the rope when the laser right above the cave entrance hit centimeters in front of her feet. Maria tripped and quickly rolled to the side. The sole of her sneaker was hit by another laser and she rushed to her feet, throwing herself at the rope.

“It’s stuck!” Maria yelled.

“Brilliant plan, Max!” Michael yelled. The lasers were turning towards Maria as she continued to yank on it.

“Maria!” Liz shouted. She made to run towards her friend but Max pulled her back.

“Pull hard, Maria!” Isabel shouted.

“What did you think I was doing?” Maria snapped back. She gripped the rope with both hands and put one foot on the wall. She pulled again, glancing behind her at the lasers all pointed directly at her. Then, with a click she felt the rope give away and she went flying to the floor. She lay on her back, sweating.

“Did it work?” She called exhausted.

“Yes, you idiot!” Michael said.

She looked up at him to see his angry face looking down at her. “Well good. Now, I’m just going to lay here and wish I was in my bed.”

Michael offered her his hand. “We have to keep moving.”

“Figures. I save your asses and I don’t even get one second to relax.” She grabbed his hand and let him pull her up. Isabel and Max were both supporting Alex between them.

Liz smiled at Maria. “Nice job.”

“Tell Coach Durnley. Maybe he’ll lay off on making me run two miles before and after school,” Maria joked. She wrapped her arm around Liz’s shoulders. “I need new shoes.”

Isabel, in front of them, turned around. “I’ll buy them for you. Thanks.” Just as quickly, she turned back and continued walking with Max and Alex.

“Whoa… what just happened?” Liz asked.

Maria grinned and looked at Michael. “Hey Mikey! I think she likes us!” She shot him a thumbs up before laughing with Liz and joining Isabel, Max, and Alex at the cave entrance. Michael and Kyle soon joined them as they waited for Serena. She was standing a few feet away from the rope.

“Do you think it would turn the lasers back on if I pulled it?” She asked.

Max groaned. “Serena, just leave it, okay? We don’t need to run through those lasers again.”

“Well, seeing as how we didn’t run through it the first time-” Maria stated.

“See, this is why I wanted to run. I knew you would brag about it afterwards, and that’s the last thing I need to hear for the next couple of hours,” Michael groaned.

“Hours?” Kyle asked.

“Oh, c’mon! I deserve the right to brag!” Maria replied. She nudged Michael. “Cut me some slack!”

“Hours?!” Kyle asked again, his voice high pitched.

“Look, I just figure that if my family follows us, they won’t be able to get past the lasers,” Serena said.

“You have some serious issues. You know that, right?”

Serena rolled her eyes. “Yes, I have problems. You guys are chasing the treasure of aliens!”

“Welcome to Roswell!” Kyle smiled, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her closer.

“Well that was corny, Kyle,” Alex muttered. He pulled his arm away from Max’s grip and tried to stand up, until he chose to just lean against Isabel a little. He looked up at the others. “So what’d I miss?”

Hey guys! Okay so I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that I’m posting the new chapter right now. Yay! The bad news is that I can’t do Author’s Notes. For some freaking reason my computer won’t let me stay on long enough to read what you guys said and reply to it. And, if it does let me stay on it ends up freezing and I can’t do anything. I don’t want to take it in, because I hate taking things in… but I think I’m going to have to. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this and it breaks my heart I can’t reply to all of you guys. Just, thanks for being so patient and staying interested in this. It means a lot to me! I probably wouldn’t write anymore (and post here) if it weren’t for you. I’d just be a big lurker.

By the way, this chapter is out due to Neodragon39. Not only did I get a major guilt trip for taking so long, but I got a guilt trip for not posting updates on when the chapter would be out and how I was and all that for you all. So thank Neo!

To all the new readers- Welcome!!! J

To my faithful readers- *tackles* Hugs all around!!! I love you all!!!

<center>Goonies Never Say Die
Chapter Fourteen
</center>

He was the one who was chosen as watch guard. He made sure that the rest of the group was comfortably sleeping (however comfortable you could be sleeping on the ground) . Unfortunately there was one person who hadn’t been able to go to sleep, who’d been staring at him ever since the episode with the lasers. Now, she was squatting a few feet behind him. He sighed irritably and looked at her over his shoulder. “What do you want?”

“And the idea of a nice conversation with Michael Guerin just flew out the window,” Maria laughed a little and shook her head in disbelief.

Michael groaned as she began to move away. He grabbed her arm. Green eyes met his. He nodded to the spot next to him before letting her go.

“Thanks.” Maria sat cross legged beside him. “So…”

“So.”

There was a moment of silence before Maria began to laugh. “God, My mother would just love this. Her only daughter alone with a guy, and no parental unit in sight.”

Michael made a circle in the dirt in front of him before he looked up at Maria. “So are you and your mom close?”

“Yeah, sometimes we’re too close, but… she’s my mom. I love her. She’s wacky, an ex-hippie and overly protective, but who’s mom isn’t, right?”

Michael looked down at the ground and then smiled. “My mom was never an ex-hippie or wacky, but she could be overprotective. I remember I went to Max and Isabel’s one time to play video games. I was only ten minutes late for dinner but she grounded me for ten weeks. A week for each minute.”

“Ten weeks? Wow, kind of harsh. How old were you?”

“Eleven,” Michael grinned, “but the punishment didn’t last ten days. My dad always said I could talk my way out of anything with her.”

Maria smiled a little and leaned forward, pulling her knees up to her chest and leaning on them. “Do you miss her?”

“A lot of people will tell you that the Native Americans have really smooth voices. Soothing voices… you know, like the sound of a river. Her voice was like that. When I was a kid I used to make her read to me or sing to me. What was really weird was, if she did it in English, I could never get to sleep.”

“Did she teach it to you?” Maria asked. “The language, I mean.”

“I never really had the time,” Michael replied. “I mean, I had the time but I always figured I’d have more time later to learn so I always postponed lessons with her. I knew some words when I was a kid, but I forgot them after awhile. After she, uh… after she died, though, I made it a point to learn.”

“How’d she die?” Maria didn’t mean to ask. God, why couldn’t she have kept her mouth shut? She’d just been sort of curious. She’d known Michael in elementary school, junior high, and high school but she’d never really talked to him. Now, she was making out with him, actually attracted to him, and she wanted to know more about him. She had to be stuck in a wacky dream because lets face it, Maria DeLuca and Michael Guerin could never have had a decent conversation to save their life.

Michael’s face darkened and he tensed next to Maria. She almost kicked herself again for even mentioning it.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t even mean to bring it up, I just… I don’t know anything about you and I’d like to get to know you and I-”

“She had breast cancer.” Michael’s voice was so soft that Maria almost didn’t hear him. After a few minutes he cleared his throat. “We uh… we didn’t know until it was too late. My mom never liked going to hospitals because she didn’t trust the doctors. Anyway, she died when I was thirteen. My dad was never really the same afterwards.”

“Are you and your dad close?”

In the dark, Maria could see a glimpse of a smile on Michael’s face. “Yeah, we’re really close. He was the ’throwing the baseball around’ type of dad, and he always went to any of the games I had for whatever sport I played.”

“Why don’t you play any sports at school?”

Michael shrugged. “It started interfering with my grades and my mom always had these big dreams for me in academics. Plus, my dad’s worked really hard as a single parent to keep me happy and I want to be able to be rich enough one day to buy him a house wherever he wants and just have him be set for life. I owe him that.”

Maria smiled. “It’s really weird. You act like such a bad ass rebel James Dean, when really you’re like a… I don’t know, a marshmallow.”

“A marshmallow?”

“A pillow?”

Michael simply snorted.

“A pair of Hanes?!”

“This is really pathetic.”

“Oh fine! You’re a big softie underneath! What would you have said?”

“Nothing,” Michael replied, “I’m not soft.”

“Yes, you are. You’re a big softie.” Maria laughed.

“No, I’m not!”

“You’re like… Stonewall Guerin during the day and Captain Softie at night! Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone your secret identity.” Maria laughed again.

There was silence. “What are you on DeLuca?”

Maria launched into another set of giggles. She nudged him. “Oh come on, it was funny.”

“No, it wasn’t. I was having a vulnerable moment and you took advantage of it.”

“Me take advantage of you?! Pshaw.” This time, Michael laughed with Maria. Strangely, it felt good. For years he’d disliked her and classified her as a rich snob. He’d never had the urge to talk to her, had always figured she wouldn’t be able to put two words together, yet here he was telling her about his mom, which he never did. Kyle, Alex, Max and Isabel were the only ones who had known how he felt about his mom, how much he cared about her and how much he missed her. He told Maria about his relationship with his dad, and let her see a side of him he didn’t show most people and if he did, he didn’t let them see it often.

“Your turn,” Michael stated.

“My turn?”

“Don’t play the dumb blonde act. I told you something about me so it’s your turn.”

“I’m guessing my favorite color wouldn’t match up, huh?” Maria sighed. “Okay, fine.”

Michael waited for Maria to continue. When she didn’t he asked, “Well?”

“I was just waiting for you to say I didn’t have to if I didn’t want to.”

“No, see, that’s what someone who was a big marshmallow would say. I’m a softie, and we softies think it’s only fair for you to spill, since I did.”

“You realize your logic is strangely warped, right?” Maria joked. “Right, well… let’s see. I guess you kind of know that my dad is AWOL. Everyone in Roswell does, anyway. He and my mom were high school sweethearts, he got her pregnant, they got married, yada, yada, yada… there I was. After awhile my dad sort of got tired of being a family man. He was only twenty and he wanted to live his life, but Grandpa Bill, my mom’s dad, was the one paying for my dad’s college tuition and the last thing Grandpa Bill wanted was for me to not grow up without a father so my dad didn‘t divorce my mom. Instead, he just cheated on her with any female that moved. When he graduated college though, and got a job, he spent more time at work and less time with my mom and me.”

Maria stretched her legs out in front of her before continuing. “My mom got pregnant again when I was eight and she thought that maybe another baby would bring my dad back to her. Strangely enough, it did. He was there for her the entire time she was pregnant and he was really great with me. When the baby was born, he even wanted me to name her. I really liked the name Trisha for some reason. I thought it was so… not Roswell. It was really good for the next few weeks. Then Trisha started crying all of the time, and she wouldn’t stop. At the hospital, they found a tumor in her brain, and she went in for surgery. My parents tried to shield me from it so all I remember is my parents coming back without Trisha. My dad practically disappeared after that.”

“Wow. I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”

“Well, duh,” Maria turned to look at him, “if you had known you wouldn’t have been curious. It’s cool. You shared, I shared. We’re doing the bonding thing.”

“I have a reputation to protect, you know, so this bonding thing-”

“Don’t worry, Captain Softie, totally our secret.” Maria assured. She heard a rustle of cloth and saw Michael take off his jacket. He spread it out on the ground before laying on it and looking out over the group. She followed his example and put her jacket out next to his, then relaxed next to him.

“So, I think I remember you saying something about your favorite color. What is it?” Michael asked.

“Green. You?”

“Same. Favorite book?”

“The Secret Garden. Lemme guess, Captain Underpants?”

“Close, Ulysses. Favorite movie? If you say Titanic or some shit like that than we‘re stopping this bonding thing. It‘ll be all over.”

“I wasn’t going to say Titanic! I was going to say Braveheart.”

“You’re joking.”

“Really not.” Maria raised an eyebrow. “What, you don’t like that movie?”

“Braveheart is the ultimate movie. It’s my favorite too.”

“Yeah, well Mel Gibson’s gorgeous.”

“I was thinking more along the lines of the battles and the plot.”

“Well, that was okay too, but it wouldn’t have been pulled off if Mel hadn’t played the main role. I mean, can you see Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead?”

“No, because he’s a wuss.”

“Oh that’s lame!”

“Lame, but true.”

“Oh, whatever.”

“You agree with me.”

“No, I don’t.”

“Yeah, whatever.”

Four hours later…

“How is Batman better than Superman?”

“How is Batman better?! Did you even read the comics?”

“We’re not talking comic Batman and Superman, we’re talking movie Batman and Superman.” Maria replied.

“Well in that case, Batman is still better.”

“Superman can fly!”

“Batman’s got the bat mobile.”

“Superman’s fast.”

“Bat mobile. And jet. And motorcycle.”

“Superman isn’t affected by bullets.”

“Batman isn’t affected by kryptonite.”

“No, but he’s got some serious mental issues. A psychiatrist would have him crying in five minutes.”

“Nicole Kidman couldn’t pull that off.”

“She was a psychiatrist?”

“Yep.”

“Oh. Well… Superman is Clark Kent, major cutie.”

“Bruce Wayne, major billionaire.”

“God, you win,” Maria sighed in exasperation throwing her hands up in the air.

Michael grinned. “So I’ve made it clear that DiCrapio is a wuss, The Matrix did have a good point, one of the teletubbies was gay, the chicken came before the egg, ‘Knock Knock, Who’s There?‘ is not a real joke, and Batman is better than Superman.”

“Why don’t you rub it in?“

“I thought I just did.”

“I won the best heroine argument.“

“I still think that one needs to be re-discussed,” Michael snapped.

“Oh please! Buffy is the best, you can’t argue that. Besides, it was one of the only good arguments I won.”

“Oh I don’t know,” both Michael and Maria looked up at the tired and irritated voice, “I thought you did a pretty good job at the ‘Who would win in a fight, Christina or Britney?’ argument. But, could you both shut up, now? We’ve been listening to you both since the teletubby fight.”

The others nodded around Isabel.

“Sorry guys,” Maria apologized. She laid back down on her jacket, across from Michael and turned her face into it when Michael began to imitate Isabel.

“I know what you’re doing, Michael, it’s not funny!” Isabel snapped. “Seriously, go to sleep!”

Michael began to laugh, causing Maria to laugh harder. When they finally stopped, Kyle’s voice said, “Hey Michael… I think it was the purple teletubby.”

“No, it was the green one,” Max replied.

“Purple.”

“Green.”

“Dude, did you even watch the show?”

With a sigh Isabel sat up. “Who cares?!? It was both of them! They were a couple! Deal with it.” She laid back down, turning her back to Alex. He sat up a little to look at his girlfriend. “But weren’t they related?”

<center>***</center>

Seven hours earlier…

Tess loved her sister with all her heart. Serena was her twin, and her best friend. Aside from Khivar, there was no one she cared about more. So, it hurt when Serena wanted to go back home to New York with or without Tess. It hurt when Khivar and Nicholas refused to let her leave, afraid that she might tell the authorities, or her father, about them. It hurt when they were forced to lock Serena in her room when she threatened to run away. But Tess began to become more accepting of it. Serena couldn’t stay in that room forever! She was bound to come back to Tess’ way of thinking. Everyday was an adventure with her husband and he was wonderful with no flaws (other than his brother)… so Serena would eventually realize their life was pretty good. Eventually, she had to. She did.

“She wasn’t hungry?” Tess asked. She, Khivar and Nicholas had left the house a few hours ago to get pizza in a town nearby. When they’d gotten back Nicholas had gone to find out whether or not Serena wanted to come out for pizza. Since Serena wasn’t with him she assumed she was too stubborn to come out or not hungry.

“Sleeping. I didn’t want to wake her,” Nicholas replied before grabbing a piece for himself and throwing himself on a nearby couch. Khivar, in the chair next to him, tossed him a beer.

“I’ll check later then,” Tess stated, picking up one of the pizza boxes and putting it in the oven to keep warm. Once she had bent down she heard what sounded like someone crawling beneath the floor. She frowned then stood up.

“I think we have rats,” she announced.

“Go figure,” Nicholas mumbled. He looked back at her. “Rats? In such a nice place like this?”

“Oh screw you,” Tess snapped.

“You wish, Barbie.”

“When are you gonna grow up Nicholas?”

“I’m two years older than you!”

“Oh yeah? Since when? Whatever. I’m going to my room.” Tess threw Nicholas a dirty look as she made her way out of the room. She heard Khivar quickly move to follow her and began to move faster. The last thing she needed was her husband to give her another lecture on getting along with Nicholas.

“Tess!” Kivar’s hand shot out and wrapped around her arm.

She rolled her eyes. “What?!”

“Why do you two always have to fight?”

“Because he’s a jackass.”

“Tess.” She yanked her arm out of his grasp and continued to walk away.

“Where are you going?” Khivar called after her.

“To check on Serena,” Tess snapped. “I’m not going to have this conversation with you again. I’m going to check on my sister, go back to my bed and then sleep.”

Our bed,” Khivar reminded her.

Tess snorted and shook her head. “Not tonight.”

Khivar pushed Tess up against one of the nearby walls and his lips came crashing down on hers. After a minute passed he pulled back and looked into her eyes. “Check on Serena after we go to bed.”

<center>***</center>

“Is it just me or should we have seen this coming?” Kyle asked.

“We should have seen this coming,” Liz and Max both replied before shooting each other a small smile.

They’d been walking for little over a half and hour when they’d come upon this room, with three tunnel exits.

“This exact scene has been in about four different movies,” Maria groaned. She leaned back against the rock wall.

“Did any of them happen to say which tunnel would be the right one?” Alex joked.

“What’s the map say?” Isabel asked. She waved her flashlight around the room and stopped when it hit the ceiling. “Hey guys, check that out.”

“What?” Alex asked.

“It looks like there are symbols or something up there. Do you guys see it?”

Maria grabbed the flashlight Michael had been using out of his hand and pointed it in the same direction as Isabel. “I don’t see anything.”

“Stand where I am. I swear, there’s something up there.” Isabel said. She pulled Maria by her jacket until she was standing right next to her and she pointed again.

“Huh. Okay, now I see it.”

“Is that a ledge?” Liz asked. “It looks like there’s a ledge up there.”

“A ledge to walk on?” Serena had now joined the group of girls in the middle of the room. “Does that mean we have to go up there.”

“If we’re meant to go up there than there has to be a ladder or rope or something around here,” Isabel nodded towards the different directions of the room. “Look around for something.”

“I don’t think we’re supposed to go up there,” Max said.

“I have a feeling we are. Michael, what does the map say?”

Michael ran a frustrated hand through his hair and his tired eyes roved the map. “It’s not all that clear but I’m pretty sure we’re supposed to go through the middle tunnel.”

“It says nothing about going up?” Maria asked, leaning in towards the map.

“Why would I say it didn’t if it did?” Michael snapped.

Maria held her hands up. “Don’t shoot the person who asks the questions, shoot the person who caused the questions to be asked.”

“Was I supposed to understand that?”

“I did,” Maria replied. She walked back in Liz’s direction to keep looking for anything to indicate they could go up to the ledge.

“If the map says that we should go into the middle tunnel, then I think we should just go into the middle tunnel and not worry about climbing twenty feet up to walk on a ledge we don’t even know can support us.”

“I’ve got to agree with Kyle on that one, Iz, sorry.” Alex shot Isabel an apologetic look.

“Fine,” Isabel sighed. “Who else wants to go through the middle tunnel?”

“As much fun as it’d be to fall a long distance again, I’d rather keep my two feet on the ground,” Serena said.

“Why would someone just randomly put symbols up there?” Maria asked. She shrugged. “I vote for going up.”

“Why would someone randomly put psychotic lasers in a room?” Michael shot back. “The map says the middle tunnel.”

“Max?” Isabel turned to her brother.

“We don’t know how sturdy the ledge is Isabel, or if we can even get up there. What if it’s a trick? The map leads to the treasure right? Well, Michael said the map says middle tunnel. I say we stick with the map.”

Maria pointed one finger up towards the symbols and one towards the middle tunnel. She raised an eyebrow at Liz. “Liz?”

Liz bit her lip and looked under her eyelashes at Max. The middle tunnel was the most logical thing to do, but Isabel and Maria both really seemed into trying to figure out what the symbols were all about. After a minute she raised a finger up at the ceiling too. “Up.”

“Well, that’s solved,” Isabel said smugly.

“Yeah, majority rules, we go into the middle tunnel,” Michael stated.

“No, you go into the middle tunnel and we,” Isabel gestured to herself, Maria and Liz, “are going to figure out how to go up.”

“You mean split up?” Serena asked. “Is that a good idea?”

“No, that’s a really bad idea!” Max replied. “We’re not splitting up, no way!”

“Well I’m not going into that tunnel until I’ve seen those symbols,” Isabel argued.

“Okay, let’s all just calm down. How about some of us look in the middle tunnel - not go far into it, just look around - and some of us try to find a way up. If there is no way up we all go through the middle tunnel. If there is, we see what’s up there. Agreed?” Alex suggested.

“Fine,” Michael mumbled. Alex looked to Max and Serena who both nodded their agreement, then Kyle who shrugged.

“Isabel?” he asked.

“Works for me.”

“Yeah,” Maria agreed.

Alex looked at Liz. She smiled. “Yep.”

“Okay good. I’ll stay and help these three look around and you guys can go check out the middle tunnel.”

“Wait, so some of us are going into the middle tunnel and some of us are staying here?” Kyle asked.

“That’s what we just said.”

“I thought splitting up was a bad idea.”

“We aren’t splitting up,” Alex said, “we’re just checking things out in groups and then meeting back up.”

“And that’s not splitting up how?”

“Serena?” Tess called. She knocked on the door and balanced the pizza box on one hand. “Serena?”

There’d been no answer when Tess had knocked on the door two hours before, so she’d assumed that Serena had still been sleeping. Now though, Tess was pretty sure Serena was just being stubborn. She pulled the key out of her back pocket and unlocked the door. The room was dark when she went in, so she felt around for the light switch.

“I brought pizza, Rena!” Tess called. She flipped the switch on and set the pizza down on the nearby dresser. “I had to keep reheating it for you though. Nicholas said you were sleeping.”

“Serena?” Tess called again. She wasn’t in her bed or in the room. Tess made her way to the connected bathroom and closet. No Serena.

“Shit!” Tess ran from the room and up the stairs, surprising Khivar and Nicholas who were watching TV.

“What’s wrong?” Khivar asked.

“We have a problem,” Tess ran a hand through her hair. “Serena’s gone.”
