Prologue
The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you
Yeah
I'm open, you're closed
Where I follow, you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide
I'm quiet you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide
Don't stop here
I lost my place
I'm close behind
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide
Collide by Howie Day
She sat on the kitchen floor watching her mother move around the room carrying things to and fro. Nancy Parker looked down at her little two year old girl and smiled then crouched down
"You're going to be very special one day Lizzie. You're going to grow up big and strong, you're special my little Elizabeth and you'll do a lot of good things" she said before standing back up. Nancy grabbed her keys and pulled on her jacket. Liz began to whimper and sob her mom just smiled at her "Always remember that I love you. That you've got a gift from me that will always be with you, help people and do good" she said finally then left the room. Liz, even though she was just a little baby, knew her mommy wouldn't be coming back
Liz woke up and rolled over into something, she opened her eyes and realised where she was. She sat up sharply and realised she'd gone to sleep in a convenience store. She would be in a lot of trouble! She checked her watch and saw that it was just after nine, she got up and wandered out from her little hide away by the stacks and walked foward to the counter. The man sat there watched her, he couldn't remember her coming in. She went over to the staff entrance and punched in the code, he got up and went to stop her from getting in but he got distracted by several men coming in shouting. He was tackled to the ground by the mysterious girl as the robbers opened fire on the counter where he had been sitting at. She pressed a panic alarm and they stayed down waiting for the police
"Everything's going to be fine. Everything's going to be okay. Stay down until the police come and what ever you do don't move from this spot. I've just saved your life okay?" she said and the man nodded
"Thank you" he whispered back then laid back down covering his head. Liz sat up and wrapped her arms around her legs and waited, she would be in a lot of trouble if she didn't get back to the orphanage soon.
***
Claudia Parker walked through the girl's dormitories, most of the girls were still asleep but one bed was empty. She turned to look at the owners
"Early riser?" she asked pointing to the bed, the owner who was a stout gruff lady went over to the bed then shook her head
"Elizabeth! I might have known! That girl is always trouble, she's forever sneaking out and always involved with the police" she said then turned back to Claudia. Claudia had been away Egypt studying, she had been informed of her daughter's death but not the fact that she had a grand daughter. She learnt of her grand daughter's existence a few months after she'd been put in the orphanage and Claudia had spend the last few years trying to find Liz. It had been difficult because Liz had been adopted a few times but they never kept her, she was labelled a problem child
"I'll pack her things for you and when the police drop her off you can sign the last of the forms then she's all yours" said the owner and Claudia just nodded as the woman began packing a little suitcase.
It was half an hour before the police turned up with Liz in tow, she waved politely to the officers she knew so well and jogged up the stairs into the building
"Where have you been young lady?" demanded the owner harshly "Have you been out all night?"
"Yes ma'am" she said bowing her head. Claudia looked over the small girl and smiled, this was definitely her grand daughter
"Ugh Mrs Browne, I think she's learnt her lesson. Do you have the last of the paperwork?" Claudia asked interrupting Mrs Browne from her job. Liz looked at Claudia and instantly knew she was her grandma and she couldn't help but smiling. She read her grandma and knew of the great lengths she had taken to find her! She sat outside with her suitcase and when the door opened and her grandma came out she stood up
"Shall we go Liz?" asked Claudia and Liz nodded following her grandma.
***
Roswell was much different to New York, it was quieter and smaller and Liz felt like she was at home. She was sat in the front seat of the large old family car her grandma drove with the suitcase in the pack wedged between digging equipment
"Nancy never told me she had a daughter you know. We rarely kept in contact because I was working so much" she said suddenly then smiled at Liz "You'll like it in Roswell. It's your home"
"I know" she replied with a smile, Claudia glanced back and forth between her grand daughter and the road
"You've got a gift like Nancy did don't you?" she asked and Liz nodded
"You do too" she replied and Claudia nodded
"It helps me find lost things, that's why I enjoy archeology so much" she explained "I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to find you"
"That's okay. You got to me when the time was right," she replied and grinned excitedly as she saw the sign come into view for Roswell. Her knew home. The second she passed the sign she shivered and felt a brief wave of sadness that made her heart ache; she hadn't felt like that since she was two and it scared her.

"Max! Come inside and get breakfast!" shouted Isabel "I made it specially! It's your favourite! Mooom! Make Max come inside and eat his breakfast! It took me ages to make it!" but Max ignored her, he was standing on the porch barefoot and in his pyjamas just waiting. He'd woken up earlier this morning itching with anticipation and he'd been standing out here ever since. His neighbour Grandma Claudia would be coming back today, everyone on the street loved Grandma Claudia because she was the coolest person there, she'd taught Max hos to drive; but he'd never waited like this, not for her, he usually went to see her after school. He saw the car coming down the road and noticed right away that she wasn't the only one in the car. His breath hitched in his throat as she pulled into the drive way and the girl got out of the car, she must have been the same age as him and she was beautiful! She saw him looking and smiled before following her Grandma into the house. Max's legs couldn't hold him and he slumped down onto the floor breathing hard... he'd just seen the girl of his dreams!

Part One
Liz stood in the doorway, the room was in a strange sepia colour and she watched a handsome man she barely recognised crawling around on the floor with a little boy on his back. They looked like they were having fun as he gave his son a horsey ride through all the toys scattered over the carpet. She watched as a young woman came into the room and picked the little boy off his father's back, the woman turned and Liz saw that she was watching herself
"Time for bed little Alexander" she said with a smile "Tomorrow is a big day, mommy and daddy are taking you to see your Great Grandma Claudia" she said. Liz who was stood in the doorway began to sob when she finally realised what she was witnessing; this was her family! She had a husband and a son and she was happy!
"Liz, honey bear wake up. We have to go and get you signed up at school" said Claudia slowly shaking her grand daughter up, Liz opened her eyes
"Where am I?" she whispered confused looking around
"You were dreaming honey bear" said Claudia "Why don't you get dressed, I made breakfast. Pancakes; they're you're favourite right?"
"Yes... how did you..." she trailed off, she had forgotten that her Grandma had a similar gift to her "Thanks Grandma" she got up and got changed then went downstairs. There was a brown backpack and several books sat on the counter in the kitchen waiting for her
"I got all the things you would need for school. We'll talk to the principal and maybe he'll let you start today. That's if you're up to it?" she asked knowing full well
"Yeah, I'd like to go to school. I was always trying to get out of that orphanage so I could either help people or hang around school and try and learn something. Mrs Browne wasn't big on schooling, she just kept us fed and gave us a place to sleep" Liz neglected to mention that she made all the girls clean the orphanage everyday from polishing the floors to washing all the bedding. Claudia glanced at her grand daughter and knew instantly what Mrs Browne had been up to, she wouldn't say anything to Liz but she would call the authorities and tip them off how caring the owner of the orphanage really was.

Max woke up from a dreamless sleep and sat up, he glanced at his clock and saw he had only ten minutes to get ready before the bus came! Isabel was using the jeep this week so he was stuck with the bus. He pulled on a clean enough shirt and some jeans pulled his boots on rushed downstairs snagged a piece of toast grabbed his backpack and his bookbag and left struggling to get his jacket on just as the bus pulled away
"Aw crap!" he mumbled around his toast, he stood on the side wondering how he was going to get to school when he saw Claudia waving at him
"Come on Max! Quick!" she called, he hurried over to her and she smiled
"Hop in and I'll take you to school"
"Thanks Grandma Claudia" he said climbing into the front seat "How was Egypt?"
"Hot as usual," she said climbing in and didn't start the engine. She honked the horn and leaned out the window
"Come on Liz!" she shouted then sat back "Liz is my grand daughter, she was in New York. I've spent the last few years trying to find her after her mother passed away" she explained
"Oh" he said, it must have been that girl he saw yesterday morning; his heart sped up at the thought of sharing the same space as her. Claudia glanced at her young neighbour and smirked as she read him, so he has a crush on Liz! That's so sweet she thought just as Liz came out and shut the door. She froze when she saw Max sitting there through the windscreen but just smiled and jumped into the back of the old family car
"Hi, I'm Liz" she said with a smile. He had been the guy from her dream, the daddy to her son and husband to her; she knew full well that they would have a future together. That was the first positive dream she'd ever had and she couldn't wait for it to come true!
"I'm Max Evans, I live across the street. I hope you don't mind me catching a lift with you, I missed the bus"
"That's okay" she said with blushing "You can ride with me any time... I mean with us... I mean..." she bowed her head as she turned pink and Claudia nearly chuckled aloud
"Let's get this show on the road then" she said then started the engine and headed to West Roswell.

"I bet she's some goth with loads of tattoos and piercings and multi coloured hair called Lonnie or Ava or something like that" said Maria while she stood at her locker. Alex shook his head at Maria's stereotypical comment
"Look Ria, just because she's from New York doesn't mean she's punk. She's probably really nice, she might be popular and hang out with the amazing Isabel Evans"
"Why do you always have to say amazing before my sister's name?" asked Max as he walked up next to his two best friend's he'd known practically all his life
"We were talking about the new girl, Alex thinks that she's some popular sl... person like your sister whereas I think she's some horrid punk from the mean streets of New York"
"You mean Liz?" asked Max and Maria's eyes went wide
"You've seen her? You mean know her? You've met her?" she gasped and he nodded slowly "Tell me! Tell me everything about her! What is she like?"
"She... she's beautiful" he said slowly "She's got brown hair and big brown eyes. She's shorter than me but she's so quiet, I bet she's really clever too" he said dreamily. Maria and Alex shared a glance; they had always thought Max was gay but the way he was talking about this girl they were sure he had a crush on her. Maria began plotting ways to get them together and Alex began thinking up ways to keep Maria from interferring. The bell rang and Max sighed
"I'll see you guys later in science okay?" he said then walked off
"He's over his head" said Maria smirking madly
"Yep, don't do anything to try and get them together. If it's meant to be then they'll work it out on their own okay?"
"Fine... God you're such a spoil sport!" she whined before walking off to English.

"Well if you're sure you want to start today we'll just do an initial assessment of your subjects then you can start in English" said the vice principal. He handed Liz the assessments while Grandma Claudia filled out the other paperwork.
Liz sat down and looked through the questions then began answering them, she didn't need to use her gift to answer them because they were so easy. She checked through her answers before starting on the next paper. By the time Grandma Claudia was done Liz had completed all the exams, she handed them back to the vice principal and he looked them over and then looked back up at her
"Wow, I've never seen such scores like this" he said "I think you best start in the highest level for English. Do you have everything you need?"
"Yes sir" she said
"Well then let's get started. Mrs Parker, it was nice meeting with you" he stood up and shook her Grandma's hand.
"I'll pick you up after school, or you can ride home with Max on the bus if you want" she suggested making Liz blush
"Okay. I'll see you later Grandma Claudia" she said then followed the principal to her new class.

Alex was watching Max, he had been doodling Liz idly on his book for the past ten minutes and hadn't been paying a word to what Miss Thomas was saying about Shakespeare. The door opened and everyone looked up as the vice principal came in followed by a young girl that must have been none other than Liz. Alex watched his best friend light up the second she walked in the room and grinned, Max was smitten!
"Students, we have a new student with us today. This is Liz Parker from New York. I want you all to make her feel welcome. Why don't you go sit over there next to Max Evans?" he pointed to the seat next to Max and she gave him a small smile before walking over and sitting down next to him. The class settled back down and the lesson continued
"Hey" he said quietly
"Hey back" she replied "Would it be okay if I ride home with you after school?"
"Sure you can ride me home... I mean ride you home... I mean..." he trailed off feeling deeply embarrassed
"I'd like that" she said feeling unlike herself, he grinned and they began working although not really paying attention.
After the class finished Liz had no clue where her next one was so she turned to Max only to find he'd already left. She took out her timetable and bit her lip
"Do you know where your next class is?" she looked up to see a tall sweet looking guy standing before her wearing a black sweat shirt with Linkin Park on the front and baggy beige pants with a large wallet chain
"No um do you know where this is?"
"Yes sure, I'll take you there. I'm Alex by the way, Max's best friend" he shook her hand "Max likes you"
"I know" she said almost giggling "I like him too"
"Oh word of warning, if you run into someone called Maria Deluca just watch out okay"
"Why is she really nasty?" asked Liz fearing that she would have a run in with a bully
"No, exactly the opposite. Maria is mine and Max's other best friend, she's totally wild and extremely crazy"
"Oh"
"And she'll probably try and set you up with Max" he said
"Not that that's a bad thing" she thought aloud "Max is... I met him this morning and last night I... never mind" she trailed off
"What?"
"Well I kinda know things... before they happen. I don't know why I can do stuff like that it's just it's something I got off my mom and my Grandma Claudia"
"Wait, your Grandma is Grandma Claudia? Well I guess it makes sense, she knows stuff too about people and places. She saved Maria from getting hit by a car when she was ten" he explained "So do you and your mom live with Grandma Claudia?"
"No, my mom... she passed away when I was two"
"Oh, so where you at boarding school or something in New York?"
"No, I was in an orphanage. Grandma Claudia didn't know I existed until a few months after I'd been placed in the system and it was difficult finding me because I had been adopted a few times but it never stuck. I was always running away" she said "I never liked the orphanage and I'm glad I'm here now with Grandma Claudia and at school. I like it here"
"Well here we are. I think Max's twin sister is in this class, as gorgeous as she is I think you should watch out for her. She has the reputation of being an Ice Princess"
"Thanks Alex. If you see Max before I do can you ask him if I can have lunch with him?"
"Sure, will do. Bye Liz" he said then hurried off. She went into the history class and saw a hyperactive blonde waving at her
"Liz! Liz! Over here! Over here! I saved you a seat!" she shouted and Liz came over
"You must be Maria Deluca right?" asked Liz and Maria nodded
"Yep! That's me! Do you like Max?" she asked skipping niceties "Because he needs a girlfriend"
"Well if he asked me himself then I'd say yes" said Liz with a smile and Maria squealed and giggled at the same time
"Brilliant!" she said "I'll get him to ask you at lunch!"
"Maria, I think the teacher's coming. I'll help you on the test" she said with a smirk and Maria looked at her confused
"What test?" she asked just as the teacher came in waving a pop quiz paper
"Pop Quiz today class!" he said and Maria glanced at Liz in disbelief
"You can see the future!" she shouted loudly disrupting the entire class
"Miss Deluca will you calm down" he said ready for her usual behaviour, he hoped that she didn't bring down the new girl sat next to her; today was going to be a long day.

"Would it be okay if I ride home with you after school?"
"Sure you can ride me home... I mean ride you home..." he trailed off feeling deeply embarrassed
"I'd like that" she said feeling unlike herself, he grinned and they began working although not really paying attention. - Max & Liz in Where I Follow.

Title: Where I Follow
Author: SpiderGirl
Disclaimer: I own nothing on this planet. Roswell belongs to Metz and Katims.
Summary: Liz is an extraordinary being, she uses the gifts she's been given to help people and stop bad people in the world. She meets Max and they settle down to raise a family. She gives up her heroic ways but it's never that simple or easy and she finds out in tragic ways.
Rating: Mature
Coupling: This is mainly Max and Liz.
Notes: This story will be very gritty and hopefully emotional with lots of talking and sadness. I'm going to do something I'm told I'm really good at, a sad story so be warned there will be lots of tears. Dreams and memories are in italics.
Part Two
Liz walked into the canteen and looked round for her new friends, she didn't have to look far because Maria spotted her and began waving madly at her. She hurried over before Maria could make anymore noise and sat down opposite Max. There were two other girls sat with her new friends and she wondered who they were since she'd not met them in any of her classes yet. She quickly read them and instantly knew that one was Max's twin sister Isabel and the other... filled her with the same wave of sadness she felt just before she entered Roswell a few days ago.
"Hi" she said mustering up a smile, Alex noticed her nervousness around Tess and made a note to ask her about it; so far he was the only one who knew about her gift but it was only a matter of time before Maria got that little bit of info out of him "I'm Liz"
"Like I care" mumbled Tess as she slid closer to Max
"Tess that wasn't very nice" said Max so she turned to face Liz
"I'm Tess Harding" she said and held out her hand for Liz to shake, Liz didn't want to touch anyone who caused that much negative emotion inside her but she didn't want to appear rude so she reached out and shook her hand. The second their fingers touched a flash lit up in front of Liz's eyes.
Tess was standing in front of her dripping wet, she had a gun aimed at Liz and looked furious. She was shouting at Liz but she couldn't hear a word she was saying. Behind her Liz could see two figures laying on the hall floor unmoving... she knew that one was her little boy and the other was Max. The smell of gunpowder burnt her senses and she knew instantly that Tess had shot them and now she was coming for her!
"Liz! Liz are you okay?!" she blinked and she was back in the canteen, she pulled her hand away from Tess's sharply and fell back onto the floor she felt sick and wanted nothing but to get away from the person who had just given her the worst vision she'd ever seen
"Liz?" she looked up to see Alex crouching over her "Did you see something?" she nodded then got up
"I... I've got to go. I'm sorry" she said before hurrying off. Alex looked back at the table his friends sat then took off after her. Tess shook her head
"What a freak!" she said then laughed like she'd cracked the funniest joke ever. Max just watched her go and wished he could go after her, he wanted to be with her not with Tess clinging to him. He sighed and pulled away from Tess and followed his best friend.
***
Alex caught up with Liz and steered her into the band room to ask her what she'd seen. Liz was almost hysterical!
"What did you see? You saw something when you touched Tess didn't you?" he questioned her and she shook her head
"I don't want to talk about it" she said avoiding eye contact with him
"Please" he begged "What is she going to do?
"She... she's going to kill my family" she said then began to sob. She fell forward and Alex caught her in his arms while she cried "I've never had a vision like that before. It's like I could do nothing to stop it"
"I know Liz. I know" said Alex rubbing her back softly "I know what Tess is like... I'll help you stop her" Liz sniffed back tears and looked up at him and accidentally read him
"She did something to you... she hurt you"
"She killed my brother" he said "He was madly in love with her and she got him drunk and drugged up then they both drove home. She was driving but got thrown clear, when we had the funeral she didn't even bother to show up. When I asked her why she wasn't there she turned around and said 'It's not like Jesse actually mattered!' I couldn't believe what she said!"
"Why do you hang around with her when you hate her so much?"
"After Jesse died she latched herself onto Max, we always thought he was gay when he payed her no attention but she tried really hard to get his attention. He still won't have none of it" he said
"And I never will" they both turned and saw Max standing there in the doorway "Are you okay Liz?" he asked coming over to her
"I just... I felt faint" she lied looking away
"I heard you talking about visions, are you like your Grandma Claudia? If you are I don't care" he said reaching out to push a strand of hair behind her ear. Alex smiled and quickly slipped out leaving the two of them alone
"Thank you Max" she replied then sighed wrapping her arms around her as if to ward off the cold
"What did you see?" he couldn't help but ask and Liz turned to look at him, that look made him pause. He'd never seen anyone look so terrified before
"I was older... Tess... she was in our house. She had a gun and she'd just..."
"What? What did she do?" he asked moving forward to wrap his arms around her to give her comfort
"She killed my husband and my little boy and she was about to shoot me" she explained feeling the tears well up in her eyes again "She killed you Max. She killed you and our little boy" she didn't mean to tell him but it slipped out while she cried. He pulled back and looked deep into her eyes and knew she wasn't lying
"I... I'm your husband? You saw that we ended up together?" he asked with a growing grin and she nodded. He cupped her face in his hands and wiped away her tears with his thumbs then leaned down and softly kissed her. Neither of them noticed Tess suddenly come through the doorway and saw them together; she couldn't believe her eyes!
***
Liz couldn't help but worry about the future until Max pointed out that it would be some time away and she shouldn't worry about it. He said that they could move away where Tess would never find them. After that she felt a little bit better then felt even better when Max asked her if she'd go to Senior Chows with him on Friday night. She had started a new school, made friends and got a date all on the same day.
By the time she got home she felt like she was floating around instead of walking. Her grandma grinned when she saw how happy Liz was
"I take it you had a good day" she said while she sat making a record of all the artefacts she had found on the computer database
"The best! Max and I are going out on Friday. To Senior Chows!" she said excitedly
"Max huh?" asked Grandma Claudia who just shook her head knowingly. From the minute those two met she knew they'd end up together, she was glad Liz was happy here.
"Do you want me to make dinner?" asked Liz from the kitchen after she put her books away in her room
"Sure, the number's on the fridge!" called Grandma Claudia. Liz scowled when she saw it was a number for a chinese take out place, she shook her head and began raiding the fridge and got pans out. A few minutes later Grandma Claudia came out to the sound of hissing pans and found Liz chopping up vegetables
"How does stir fry sound? I found some vegetables in the fridge and there's little bits of meaty chickeny thing that's in date that I can add" she said cheerfully
"Aren't we ordering in?" she asked a little surprised then went over to see the contents of the pan and realised she wouldn't waste her money. Not when how great it all looked! "I didn't know you learnt how to cook!"
"Mom taught me" said Liz without realising and then froze
"It's okay" said Grandma Claudia "You don't have to be weirded out by this. It runs in our family so it's okay"
"The kids at the orphanage thought I was a freak. I thought I was until I met you. Mom left that day because she had a gift too, like we do. I never realised it before, but that day she knew it was her time. Didn't she?"
"Yes honey bear. I'm afraid she did" she pulled Liz into a hug "Sometimes we can see our endings and we know that they must be played out that way. Somethings we can't change and we have to face them when they come to us. It's a hard thing to deal with"
"Grandma... I think I... I think I saw my end" she whispered quietly "Today in school, I shook hands with a girl and saw that she was going to kill me"
"Then that's impossible!" Grandma Claudia stated shaking her head then pointed at the pans. Liz turned and began moving them about and adding things to cook. Once everything was okay again she turned back to her grandma
"Why is it impossible?" she asked a little confused
"We are given a gift. When we use it to help people like you do, like your mother did we are safe from acts of violence. I don't question how it works, I just know that it does. Watch" said Grandma as she picked out a large butcher knife from the block and thrust it at Liz's stomach. Liz screamed but felt nothing, when she opened her eyes she saw the metal bent like paper. She touched the tip and found it was sharp
"I don't get it" she whispered confused
"Your mother died in an road accident. Because it was an accident that's why she died, if the man in the car swerved toward her with the intent to cause her harm then she would have walked away without a scratch" Liz smirked as an idea popped into her head. If that vision ever did come true then she could change it! She just needed some lessons on the way to stop that future from happening; and she would. She wasn't going to let Tess destroy her family.

Part Three
Well no one told me about her
The way she lies
Well no one told me about her
How many people cried
Well no one told me about her
The way she lies
Well no one told me about her
How many people cried
But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know?
Why should I care?
Please don’t bother to find her
She’s not there
Well no one told me about her
Well no one told me about her
How many people cried
But it’s too late to say you’re sorry
How would I know?
Why should I care?
Please don’t bother trying to find her
She’s not there
She’s not there…
Max opened the door and she stood there looking beautiful as ever, he held the door open for her
"Come on in" he said and she stepped inside, she couldn't help look around the room she found herself in.
"You must be Liz" she turned to see a forty something woman standing there with her hand out
"Yes... It's very nice to meet you" she replied and shook hands. She got a brief flash of her standing near a window looking in on her son holding a newborn baby "Alex Adam" she whispered her hand going to her stomach as her eyes filled up; her son's name
"I'm sorry what?" said Diane looking confused
"Nothing... I didn't say anything" she shook her head "So Max tells me you love cooking" Liz changed the subject fast but Max kept an eye on her. He was dying to ask her who Alex Adam was
"Oh yes I do" Diane replied "I try so many recipes now from cookbooks. Do you like to cook Liz?"
"Yes as a matter of fact I do. Back when I was living in the orphanage I learnt pretty quick to cook, it was one of my chores; the only one I didn't mind though"
"Orphanage?" Liz turned to see Isabel standing there "I thought Max said you lived with your grandmother, he didn't say you were adopted"
"I'm not adopted. Grandma Claudia is my Grandma, I was only in the orphanage because she spent so much time in Egypt" Liz tried to explain
"So she left you there?" Isabel replied
"Isabel! Don't be rude!" hissed Diane, ashamed of the way her daughter was behaving
"It's alright Mrs Evans" said Liz "I know adoption is a sore point in this family. I wish I had never brought it up"
"You told her!" growled Isabel "You told her we were adopted!"
"I didn't I swear!" cried Max trying to save himself from his sister's wrath
"My Grandma told me" said Liz "I'm sorry"
"It's okay Liz, Isabel is over reacting. Why don't we all go and sit down to dinner?" suggested Diane and they all agreed but Isabel was still fuming, Liz hung back for a second and pulled out a little tube and sprinkled the contents in front of one of the windows before joining them.
She sat down with a smile, making sure she was sat closest to the doorway to the living room
"It smells wonderful Mrs Evans" she said just as Phillip came in and sat down, he kissed his wife and smiled to his children
"Ah... Elizabeth isn't it"
"Yes sir, please call me Liz" she said politely "Oh, can I have a glass of water?"
"Sure... um I'll go get it" said Max slowly standing up
"No it's okay. I'm sure I can manage"
"Are you su-" he began but she cut him off
"Yes" she said firmly, Isabel watched them silently talk with their eyes then Liz went off into the kitchen.
Liz ignored the cupboard with the glasses and ignored the fact that she went to get water, she went instead straight to the kitchen cook top and picked up the heaviest pan there testing the weight in her hand. She heard glass breaking and looked away from the pan, it'll have to do she decided and quickly moved to stand in the large doorway just as a burglar with an old smith and western came barging in, he was shaking the ball bearing's he'd fallen on off his coat when he spotted her standing there with the still hot pan. The people around the table looked frightened but she didn't, she had seen this one night while she slept. Liz smirked and looked at the calendar hanging up on the wall then threw the pan as hard as she could at his head and he went down with a oomph and bang
"Quickly call the police before he wakes up" she said, Max jumped up and rushed over to her
"Are you okay?" he asked and she nodded, Isabel went to call the police while Phillip helped his shocked wife
"I'm sorry Max" she whispered "I know you wanted this evening to be perfect but I kind of planned it this way. I knew that he was going to break in, that's why I picked tonight. Your father and Isabel would have been shot" she whispered as he held her
"Thank you. Thank you for saving them" he leaned forward and kissed her.
***
Liz sat in class drawing on her book, word had gotten round how she took down a burglar and everyone had been congratulating her for it. She looked over at Max and saw him smiling at her, she smiled back then the bell rang signalling the end of the day. She quickly packed her things up and went over to stand next to Max
"My Grandma left for Egypt this morning. She'll be gone for a few months" she said "And I don't want to stay in the house alone, I'm not used to it. Normally I'm sharing a room with all my dorm buddies"
"Sure" he said with a smile
"Good, coz I want to tell you about Alexander Adam" she said with a smile and he looked up, he'd forgotten about Alex Adam.
The drive home was quick and in silence, Max was deep in thought and Liz was going over some of the moves she had learnt while at martial arts class.
Tess watched them climb out of Max's jeep and scowled furiously, she'd taken to following Max around and was enraged by the amount of time he spent with her. Ever since Liz turned up Max has been all goo goo eyed for her and it made her sick! She was going to have her vengeance and she would enjoy it!
"Are you hungry?" asked Liz as Max followed her into the house, he put his books down on the table and sat down on the couch
"No I'm fine" he replied and she sat down next to him putting her hand on his knee
"I saw... I saw something when I shook hands with your mom. She was watching you hold your newborn son"
"Our son"
"Yes" she replied happily "Alexander Adam Evans. I was seeing it through her eyes and it was beautiful" she whispered
"I wish I could see what you see Liz. I'd give anything to see what you see" a single tear fell down her cheek and he cupped her face wiping that tear away with his thumb
"No Max, no you don't" she replied then closed her eyes as more tears fell "The things I've seen, I've had to bear in my soul. The things I've seen have showed me a cruel and cold world. Do you want to know the very first thing I remember seeing, and understanding?"
"Tell me" he said
"My mother. My mother crossing a road and getting knocked down by a drunk driver, an act of non-violence that took her life" Liz said softly "I was only three at the time and I knew she wouldn't be coming back"
"Oh Liz" he replied sounding melancholy "What a thing to bear. Is it really that bad?"
"No. Not all the time, there are some good times as well as the bad and when bad things happen I usually stop them. But Max... I want to have a family, I want to have children... I want to marry you and see our son grow up to have children of his own. I don't want to do the things I do anymore, I was born with the gift of sight and I'll have it all my life but I can't keep going out and saving people. I know it's wrong of me to not stop those bad things from happening-"
"No, it's not wrong of you Liz. Bad things happen whether you can stop them or not, whether you can see them happening means nothing... you've done so much haven't you? How many people have you saved? I think whatever power gave you this gift would understand, you've given so much. It's time for you to have your rest" he said then leaned forward and kissed her "I love you Liz Parker"
"I love you too Max Evans" she said then slowly stood up, she held out her hand and he took it. She led him to the stairs and they climbed them hand in hand... she pushed open the door to her room and lifted off his shirt before taking off her own "This is my future. It starts here and it starts with the both of us, I don't want to see anymore visions" she said before pulling him to her as they laid down together...

Part Four
"Alex? Can I talk to you for a sec?" asked Liz grabbing hold of her friend's arm
"Sure Liz, what is it?" he asked once she'd pulled him into the deserted band room
"I... I'm pregnant" she whispered. It had been a week since the night she and Max had well and truly cemented their relationship, she had no idea how to tell him. Everything had been moving so fast lately and she was being swept along. Her aunt had come home two nights ago and told her that she was pregnant before she even knew herself!
"Are you sure? Whose the father?" he asked putting his hands on her arms "Is it Max?"
"Yes. We... a week ago" she whispered "God how am I ever going to tell him?"
"Tell me what?" asked Max and they both looked up to see him standing there "I know your habit of dragging Alex into the bandroom so I knew something must be up. What's wrong?" Alex let go of his friend and cleared his throat
"I'm just gonna... go" he said then left quickly leaving Liz and Max alone, she wrapped her arms around herself like she was cold
"Come here Max" she whispered and he came over to her; she took hold of his hand and pressed it against her stomach. She watched his face as he realised what she meant "I don't know what to do Max. What are we going to do?" he opened and closed his mouth
"Pregnant" he whispered in disbelief and she nodded
"Max, my aunt knows. Hell she was the one who told me I was pregnant, she was angry at first but I think she's going to support me"
"My parents will kill me" he whispered
"I think we should tell them, maybe we should have dinner or something and I can sense them out" she said pulling away from him, she reached for her bookbag and got a vision
Diane watching her son hold her grandson and smiling. She handed him a little soft toy and looked up at her husband and her daughter who were watching from the other side of the glass
"He's beautiful Max" she told him with a warm grin then things went all fuzzy. What does Serena think? Has she seen him yet?"
"No, Maria and Michael are bringing her here now. They were babysitting for us" he replied then turned his attention back to his new son "That's right little guy. Your big sister is coming to visit you"
She fell back with a oomph and Max hurried over to help her up, he was so worried that should could have hurt herself
"Are you okay? Liz? Is the baby okay?" he asked as he lifted her small frame up into his arms "I'm taking you home"
"No Max, I'm fine. Put me down so I can tell you what I saw" she said, he sat her down on one of the chairs and she smiled "I saw the same thing I did last time, only a little bit more. You're sitting at the end of my bed holding our son, our first boy but you said that Serena was coming"
"Whose Serena?" asked Max
"Our first girl. I think Adam Alex would be our first but no, Serena is" she said rubbing her stomach
"Serena. Serena Evans" he repeated and rubbed her tummy "I can't believe this!"
"Are you happy?"
"Yes, yes I am. I... we should start getting things in, I should work more shifts at the UFO center. You can't work at the Crashdown anymore, not in your condition"
"Max for God sake you only just found out!" she cried "Let me at least put on some weight before you start talking about 'my condition'. Besides we need all the money we can get if we plan on raising these babies"
"Yeah you're right. I'm sorry" he said then bit his lip "Do you think we should tell someone?"
"Well my Grandma Claudia knows and Ale- OH MY GOD Alex knows! I never said he couldn't tell anyone!" she cried jumping up quick and rushing out. Alex was standing with Michael, Maria, Isabel and Kyle and the second they saw her they started clapping. Isabel came over to her and gave her a hug
"Aren't you angry?" asked Liz and Isabel just smiled and whispered in her friends ear
"Are you kidding, my brother is giving me a nephew and I'm just pleased he isn't gay. I was beginning to wonder there" she said then leaned back
"Besides I don't think I'd want anyone else to be with my brother, I'm glad it's you Liz" she said and Maria nodded
"We should celebrate" she suggested, any reason for a party
"Let's celebrate after we've told my parents and they decide not to kill me" said Max as he came out of the band room carrying Liz's book bag
"What about Grandma Claudia?" asked Michael "Will she be angry?"
"She's okay with it. She's the one who told me about... Serena"
"Serena? You're having a girl" gasped Maria and she began to tear up "How do you know what you're having so soon?"
"Woman's intuition" she supplied quickly and Max put his hand on her shoulder
"What's going on?" asked Tess suddenly coming up to the happy group "Hi Max" she batted her eyelids
"Hey Tess, sorry me, Alex and Liz all have to go to Trig" they left quickly
"Yeah and I have a maths exam I have to study for. You too don't you Kyle?" said Maria then looked to her friend
"Yeah that exam thing" he replied and they walked off leaving Isabel and Michael
"I have to go see about my grades" said Isabel and left quickly. Tess glared at Michael who just shrugged
"I can't bother thinking something up so I'm just gonna go" he said then left leaving her standing there in the busy hallway on her own.

Part Five
"Push Liz! Push!" said the doctor
"I am PUSHING! God dammit!" she roared angrily as Max held her hand tight.
In the waiting room Diane, Phillip, Grandma Claudia, Maria, Isabel, Alex, Kyle and Michael were all waiting for news
"I wish Liz's mother could be here for this" said Grandma Claudia Alex came over and patted her shoulder
"I'm sure she is" he said kindly and she smiled and put her hand over his
"Thank you" she replied then the doors burst open and in ran four teenagers, they rushed up to the reception counter
"We're here to find out about Elizabeth Parker. Has she had the baby yet?" asked the boy, a brunetter glared at him
"She probably has since you wouldn't stop for directions!"
"Pipe down Serena! I knew exactly where we were!" he shot back
"Will you stop fighting?" demanded one of the two blondes. Isabel got up and went over to them
"Um excuse me do you know Liz Parker?" she asked and they all turned round and stared at her
"Yeah, do you know her? Has she had the baby?" asked the other blonde and she noticed that the blondes were twins
"Not yet, my brother is the father" she explained "I'm Isabel... and you are?"
"Oh I'm Courtney" said the first blonde then pointed to her sister "This is my baby sister Cameron, and those two arguing over there are Serena and Adam"
"Nice to meet you. We're all waiting over here" she said and she lead the four to the other people waiting
"So how do you know Liz?"
"We all grew up together in the orphanage. It was us five against the world, we always considered her a sister" said Adam "She always looked out for us and we helped her out when she was always running off to do good deeds" Isabel chuckled. The doors opened and Max came out pulling off his cap and ruffling his hair he quietly came and sat down on the chair unaware that everyone was staring at him
"Well!" cried Grandma Claudia "Has she had the baby?" he jumped a little startled and nodded slowly
"A baby girl. Serena Evans" he said then slowly smiled and his eyes filled up "We have a daughter! She's beautiful!" he said and everyone cheered and began hugging him. Everyone moved to the window and Max went back in and sat on the edge of the bed with her as she craddled her baby girl.
"Max, you take her for a bit. I need to sleep" she said tiredly and handed their daughter to him and laid back she was asleep in seconds. Max pulled the blanket up over her then carried Serena out to show his friends and family
"Everyone I'd like to introduce you to little Serena Evans" he said and everyone crowded round to look at the little baby with a big tuft of brownish black hair on her head yawning and stretching her little fingers out
"Oh Max she's beautiful! Can I hold her?" asked Maria as she held out her little finger and Serena wrapped her hand around it "Awww she is just soo cute" she got misty eyed "I can't wait to be a mother" she said and Michael caught her eye and just smiled. He put his hand on her shoulder and she grinned
"Liz named the baby after me?" asked Serena, Max looked up at her then spotted the three other strangers standing there
"Uh who are you?"
"Oh we're Liz's best friends from the orphanage in New York. I'm Serena that's my brother Adam and they're the twins Courtney and Cameron. She called me a few days ago so I called the twins and we all came up" she explained
"Oh she's just so beautiful. Can we see Liz?" asked Courtney
"She's sleeping at the moment. It's best to let her rest" said Max "I'm going to put some baby clothes on Serena and tomorrow I'll be bringing Liz home" he explained.
***
Liz carried Serena into her Grandma's house, Max had permenantly moved in after they told his parents about the baby; he wanted to be there so Liz wasn't on her own when Grandma Claudia went away on digs. He supported Liz up the stairs and she gasped when she saw a door with colourfully painted letters that read Serena. He pushed open the pink door and she gasped as she saw the room. There were draws full of baby clothes and loads of baby toys and a crib and a rocking chair placed near the window. It looked so wonderful in the setting sunlight
"Max when did you do this? We can't afford all this" she pointed out
"A lot of the old baby toys were from when Isabel and I were little. They're still good and Maria and Isabel cleaned and washed them all so they're almost brand new and I built the crib and the rocking chair months ago when you first told me about Serena. Michael's had them hidden in his spare room ever since" he explained "The only thing we spent any money on was the paint, the baby clothes and chest of drawers" he said. Liz walked over and sat herself down in the comfy rocking chair and smiled down at Serena
"Daddy did all this for you baby" she said. Max smiled in awe as his two girls rocked back and forth on the chair. He had a family of his own now and he couldn't help but grin; nothing could ruin the happy feeling he felt.
***
The colour was funny as she looked around the room, it was her kitchen she was sure of it but it looked different. She jumped when she felt someone walk past her and she was shocked to see that it was herself then she figured out she was dreaming. She watched herself carry breakfast dishes into the kitchen and put them in the sink, a toddling baby followed her and she smiled thinking it was Serena but gasped when she saw Serena sitting up at the counter eating breakfast, her son was toddling towards her and held her leg
"Mama?" asked Serena "Whose Claudia?" Liz turned and looked surprised at the question then picked Adam Alex up
"She's my Grandma. Why?"
"Because last night I had a dream about her. We were both very sad" Serena replied "She said that she had to go away like my Grandma Nancy and Uncle Alex. I told her that I didn't have a Grandma Nancy only Grandma Diane" she said then the phone rang. Liz scowled
"Grandma Nancy was my mama" she said then picked up the phone. She knew who it was and why they were calling
"Hello Lizzie, it's Mateo here. I'm afraid that I'm calling to say that your Grandma passed during the night. It was a stroke; the doctors couldn't do anything about it"
"Thank you for letting me know" she whispered then everything began to fade.
She opened her eyes and jumped in surprise when she saw cold blue eyes staring at her, she opened her mouth to scream but a hand clamped down on her mouth then something poked her hand in the stomach and she knew what it was, she pretended to be hurt and she let her eyes flutter shut
"Goodbye Liz Parker" hissed the cold voice "Max is mine" the door shut then she opened her eyes shoved Max awake then grabbed the baseball bat from under the bed and went after the cold witch who broke into her house before she could hurt her daughter. She caught up with Tess in the hallway and hit her with the bat, she went down disorientated and surprised. Max came running and was surprised to see Liz standing over Tess holding the bat ready
"Max go check on Serena" she said not taking her eyes off Tess "Then call the police" Max carefully moved past Tess and they checked on their baby girl. He brought Serena out then went back to the bedroom to call the Sheriff. Tess looked over Liz and was furious that there was no mark on Liz save for a slice in in the shirt she wore for bed
"Max is ours. He'll never be yours" said Liz angrily "Make sure you remember that when you're in prison on your own"

"Would it be okay if I ride home with you after school?"
"Sure you can ride me home... I mean ride you home..." he trailed off feeling deeply embarrassed

Part Six
"Huh, huh, huh... AAARRRGGGHHH!" she panted out of breath before she screamed out loud, Max jerked beside her and sat up it only took him a minute to realise what was happening and he instantly grabbed hold of her trying to calm her down. It had happened every Thursday for the past three weeks and she refused to tell him what was causing her to choose insomnia
"Noo!" she screamed and began struggling in his arms, he wrapped his arms tight around her and she squirmed trying to get away "Let go of me Edward!" she shouted "Please just let me go!" she added sounding more desperate this time. Max let her go and she sank back into the soft bed
"Liz, it's me. Max" he whispered and she blinked then sat up tugging the blanket up to her chin and looked round
"I... I must have been dreaming" she whispered, Max put his hand on her shoulder
"Are you going to tell me what about?" he asked and the baby started crying
"I'm going to check on Serena" she said quickly and pulled away from him leaving him only to wonder who Edward was and why she was so terrified of him.
***
The next morning Liz acted as if nothing had ever happened, she padded round the kitchen making breakfast for him, Claudia and Serena. Claudia met his eyes and knew something was up, he was kinda annoyed that he lived in a house with two psychic women; they always knew what was going on with him but he had no clue how to read them!
"Max, are you ready? We're going to be late! Grandma Claudia will you look after Serena for me? Until we get back? I wouldn't normally ask but today is exams after all"
"Sure honey bear. I just need to talk to Max, why don't you go wait in the car?" Liz glanced between Max and her Grandmother then nodded nervously and went outside to wait in the car.
"You have to force it Max. Force the issue or she's just going to deny everything and you'll never get a good nights sleep again"
"You know why she wakes up in the middle of the night don't you?" he asked in a hushed tone and she nodded
"I wish I could have saved her from the pain she recieved. When you find out her shameful secret you'll understand why she worked so hard to use her powers to help people, not just because it was the last thing her mom said to her but because of what happened to her"
"I'll talk to her at lunch time. Thanks Claudia" he said and she patted his back
"Oh and make sure Alex trips over!" she called out as he left, his brows knitted at the last thing she said. Why had she said that?
He met up with Liz in his jeep and they headed to school to sit their exams, soon they'd be finished with high school and soon they'd be out in the big wide world.
"Liz... you know I love you don't you" he said after he parked up
"Of course I do Max, I love you too" she replied
"And you can tell me anything..." he added and she stiffened
"I don't want to be late" she said then took off as fast as she could. Max got out slowly and walked into school deep in thought; he was thinking about when Tess broke in to try and kill Liz, he had been so worried that Liz or Serina had been hurt that after the police took Tess away he'd dragged them both back to bed and watched them both while they slept. Tess had ruined so many lives; his, Liz's, Alex's... Alex! He turned round sharply, he was going to try and follow through on what Grandma Claudia said and make sure he tripped up but he had no idea Alex had been behind him and he ran straight into him, they tried to regain their balance and Alex tripped and tumbled down the stairs and landed at the bottom with his eyes closed. Max watched in horror as Alex lay unmoving and Isabel came over quickly to help him. Isabel being Isabel was a qualified first aider and she began checking for any injuries, Alex opened his eyes and looked up to see Isabel hovering over him; she found a box in his pocket and quickly took it out and was surprised to find it was a jewellery box, he reached up to take it off her
"Isabel" he groaned
"You're concust!" she gasped then pulled out her phone. Alex took the box off her and opened it while she called for an ambulance
"Marry me Isabel" he said holding up the box right before he passed out. Isabel gasped and looked down at Alex, all this time he'd felt the same things as her! She quickly put the ring and smiled then checked that he hadn't stopped breathing or his pulse was low
Max couldn't believe what just happened! One little trip and he was going to get a brother in law!
"What a day" he said and hurried down the steps to make sure Alex was okay.
***
"How's Alex?" asked Liz and Max smiled
"He's better, the doctor said it was just a bump on the head. He should be ready to go home soon. Isabel's going to take him"
"I can't believe it though! I just can't believe she said yes!" said Liz
"I can't believe he finally asked her" Max added and Liz smirked "We should go home too. Claudia and Serina are probably waiting for us"
"Yeah" she said tiredly
"Yes and we need to talk" he said in a serious no messing tone "About Edward and what happened" she gasped and looked up at him
"H... How do you know about him?"
"You were talking in your sleep... Well you screamed and it woke me up and then you mentioned his name when I held you to calm you down, you thought I was him" he explained and she bowed her head
"I'm sorry Max. I didn't hurt you did I?" she asked and he shook his head
"No not physically, I'm just hurt that you've kept a secret like this from me. Why won't you tell me?"
"I'm ashamed. I'm afraid that if I'll tell you you'll think differently of me"
"Nothing to change how I think or feel about you Liz. Know that now, I'll never stop loving you"
"Promise" she whispered and he nodded
"Promise" he said with a smile "So who is Edward?"
"He was one of my foster fathers I had. After my mom died I was sent to an orphanage and a few times I was fostered and adopted, but it never worked out. I never got on with any of them because they didn't understand me and the older I got the more time I spent outside, I liked it outside especially at night. But when I was about to turn thirteen I was sent to live with Edward and Alice. They both thought I was the perfectly little girl, Edward was just a little move loving than Alice was. When he first... I thought I'd done something wrong. He told me that I wasn't to tell anyone and that it was our secret, the second time I was so terrified I tried to get away and Alice wanted to know why I was so scared. He was so angry and I got so scared that he'd hurt me that I... wet myself. I didn't sleep alone that night, I held tight onto Alice praying that he'd leave me alone long enough for me to get some sleep. It didn't happen for another few days, I'd been sneaking out at night to avoid his little visits; Alice had no clue and he wasn't about to bring it up in case she asked why he was going to my room in the middle of the night. But one night Alice had gone to her sisters because she was sick and I was alone with him, I was climbing out the window and he caught me. He... he raped me until the early hours of the morning then left me alone to clear up the mess he'd made of me" she whispered. Max couldn't believe what he was hearing, now it all made sense! What grandma Claudia had said about why Liz helped people, he understood
"That's why you helped people. That's when you started wasn't it? Using your powers to see the future?" he asked and she nodded
"I'd been bad and I had to do something to make it up, but the more I tried to spend away from him the more I was punished for it" she said softly
"Liz no you were never bad. It wasn't your fault, he was a monster and you never deserved what he did to you. I wish I could have saved you from that fate" he whispered taking her into his arms "If you still want to help people I'll help people too okay?" she nodded against his chest and finally broke down. She'd been holding it all inside her for years and now she'd finally let it out she just wanted to scream and cry; she knew Max would hold her in his arms while she did it. He'd always hold her no matter what came their way...
