OOC -- I'm going to assume that we arrange one Roswellian hybrid in each car -- so Michael rides with Maria (and Lana and Dominick?) While Isabel rides with Liz (and Vega and Deidre?) and Kyle goes with Max, Lex and Zan. Maybe Liz stopped by the Crashdown to get some food? Also, Max has asked Isabel to phone their Dad. I'll assume he'll be arriving after the kids.

*Max*

The ride to Roswell has never seemed so long. My teenaged son was in the back seat with Michael's son. He's only a year or so younger than me. And he grew up in a lab. At least he seems calm now, although he doesn't talk much. I wonder what he's thinking. I'm glad Lex is here. He seems to be close to Zan. I'm not sure what might happen if Zan flips out again. Luckily, I have a shield.

Sneaking into the school wasn't that hard. We slipped in two by two, one of us each escorting one of the 'future kids.' It was just a question of making sure we weren't noticed by anyone who knew us. Lex insisted that Zan be my partner. I could almost feel how nervous he was, but we made it in without incident. We settled into the German class, chosen because none of us take German so the FBI wouldn't have any reason to bug this class. Also because it's right next to the nurse's office. There's a few cots there so Isabel can use one when she does her dreamwalk of little Zan.

Zan and I are last as we slip into the classroom. I'm glad to see that everyone-else has made it in safely. My stomach starts to flutter as I see Liz again. There's so much I need to say to her...

I silently close the door behind us and look around. Catching Isabel's eye, I ask her first. "Did you check for ..." finish by tapping my ear to indicate listening devices. I don't expect them to be here but that doesn't mean we're not going to be sure.

As soon as we get into the classroom, I sweep it to make sure it isn't bugged, ready to shut them off as soon as I detect any. But there are none, so it seems like a safe enough place for now. As everyone makes their way in in pairs, I find myself vaguely aware of the German verbs splattered across the walls. Now I know why I never bothered giving it a try.

Max and Zan are the last to arrive. I have to marvel for a moment, because the chemistry that already exists between them is astounding. They make it seem almost normal for a teenage father to embrace his future teenage son. Almost, but not quite. I nod at my brother when he asks if I've checked the room. "It's all clear," I assure him.

"Dad left the office immediately, so he should be arriving any time now," I said, glancing at my watch. "Should I just try the dreamwalk now?" I ask Max. Then I offer Zan a small smile, realising how weird situation is. Obviously I've never tried dreamwalking someone from the present in the presence of, well, his future self. I wonder what he thinks of this.

OOC -- any luck on getting a Liz?

*Vega*

I made my way into the school following my teen-aged mother. I sit in the class room and look around as the others trail in, two-by-two. So this is a real school. We’d seen schools on television in the weeks after our escape when we were trying to understand the book and to find the granolith. But I’d never actually been in one. The room is a lot bigger than the pod chamber and certainly more comfortable. The institutional feel has uncomfortable similiarities to our rooms at the facility, but at least there are windows here. And sheetrock. No raw painted cinderblock or tile. It’s not like the lab at all.

Mom has been so quiet. I see the looks Dad is giving to her, looks of love and need. I have a feeling our arrival interrupted something. I’m sure she’s freaked by all this and I can’t help but be afraid of what she’s thinking. Will this make her not want to marry Dad afterall? If I don’t get born, what will happen to me? Will I still exist?

At last, Dad arrives with Zan and our group is complete again. Aunt Isabel asks about doing the dreamwalk. I look to Dad, waiting to see what he says.

“Yeah, if you’re ready,” he says, removing his wallet again and fishing out the photo of baby Zan. He hands it over to Aunt Isabel. “Maybe someone should sit with you,” he suggests, obviously concerned about anyone being alone.

Here we are in a real school. I haven't been in a real school since kindergarden and I'm not sure that counts. I watch Zan, making sure he's okay. He said he was fine with Uncle Max and it seems to be true. I wonder what this will all mean. What happens after we rescue the baby? Two Zans in the same place is going to be weird.

Aunt Isabel says she's ready for the dreamwalk. I move over next to Zan, just to be sure. I wonder what he's thinking about all this. "Everything okay?" I ask him in a low voice.

I receive the tiny photograph from Max. “Maybe someone should sit with you,” he suggests. When he says this, he unwittingly triggers a memory that immediately flickers through my mind. I recall a similar situation some time back. That time, it was Alex who volunteered to stay with me, telling me that if he held onto me, maybe I wouldn't get lost. Maybe if I'd held onto him from then onwards, I wouldn't have lost him.

I shove the memory aside, knowing that we can't fix the past and it's the here and now that's important. That's ironic though, because we are in actual fact trying to fix the past. Present. Whatever it is.

"Okay, I'll just go next door then. Keep your fingers crossed." As I head for the door, I look down at the picture, feeling a stab of anger that they have pushed us this far, to the point where it has become necessary for me to invade the mind of an infant. I really hope I get this right, for his sake as well as my brother's.

Isabel ignores my suggestion and starts towards the door. I guess I'm not surprised. She doesn't need supervision to dreamwalk, afterall. But this dreamwalk is different. It's a toddler. A toddler whose teenaged self is right here. There might be complications. Plus there's the spector of the FBI watching us. I know they said the FBI doesn't come after us for a few more years, but they're here. I don't like it.

I want to go with her myself, but I feel I need to be here with the others. I glance around, and my eyes light briefly on Kyle. Supposedly the two of them are married and having a baby girl in only a few years. But I haven't seen any sign that anything like that is happening yet.

"Michael?" I ask. He's our brother, in spite of our living in other households, in spite of biology. He's our brother. "Can you go watch out for her?"

OOC: I would post, but I'm waiting for a Michael response :) No pressure, of course.

dittio, lmao
They were all linked. Everyone in the group. But Max was the leader, not because he was a King, or ruler in another time, it was because Max was the glue, it was unspoken but true. Max was the one that brought them all together, that KEPT them together. And Liz is what held Max together.

If Kyle or Maria, or somebody-else wanted to volunteer, rather than Michael, that would work, too.
